IT'S NOT FINE DINING, IT'S JUST DARN GOOD EAT'IN !! that's how I feel about Willie's! its an old Florida Seafood Camp restaurant! it has fish mounted on the walls, gator heads, an old wooden Indian from the cigar store! its something u don't see everyday of the week. its all tables, no booths, and there is a private dining room for small groups with French doors on it. its a unique place, quaint, and very interesting especially for young kids, look at that, no, look at that! the food is very good, broiled or fried, and there is an all-u-can-eat special on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nites, all fried seafood! its about $16 per person, and that's a deal today, there is no cheap seafood anymore, those days are long gone! the service is very good, lot of cute, young ladies waiting on you and the place can be packed! holds about 100 people, and the parking, its along the railroad track and aside the building, so its up to you, but be careful, traffic is quick and u don't want to get hit! the food is fresh, broiled or fried, they serve beer and wine, and its a family place to go! clean, lots to see, and the train comes by, the whole place rumbles! thera com'in thur! the freight train with a cars full of phosphate from the Mulberry mine down the line! right on time! kids love the place, lot of things on the walls and lots on the plate too! the desserts are great,Mango cheese cake, u don't get that everywhere! the onion rings are great, fresh and hand dipped and fried with some ranch dressing or whatever u want, just ask'm! could have seafood gumbo again, that isn't on the list anymore, but it sure was a hot seller, by the cup or bowl, i'll have a bowl ! same with corn fritters, they need to bring them back again! its well worth it to us, and we eat out a lot, the wife and I !! I love fried oysters, lots of good eatin here anyway, something for everyone! its not fast food, its just good ole down home cookin! and that's for me! lets have some of that! ate there dozens of time, goin there tonite! about $20-25 per person and if u want something good, well that's the price! this is not a drive thru place! It works for me! if u go and don't like it, well maybe ur a franchise type of person, not a down home cookin type! that's up to you! some people say they don't like it, they can't afford it, so they give it a thumbs down, becareful on those people, they don't eat out much, they just can't afford it!

Willie's is Old Florida. A real treasure. Go early, this is a popular spot with the locals. I had fried oysters and catfish, my first time for catfish, it was great. Will go again when in Dover.

Dinner there on Saturday evening. Seated right away. Good service friendly staff. Rustic setting. Would have give 5 stars because our meal was so good but only 4 because the white wine is so bad.

Casual, friendly atmosphere. The service was prompt and courteous - our server was even helpful with recommendations. The fried catfish was amazing and all the prices are reasonable. Can't wait to come back.

If you're in the mood for seafood give this place a look. I had deep fried clams and oysters. Wife had grouper sandwich. Onion rings for appetizer. Waitress was friendly and service was prompt.

Nice server, smelled very musty inside- all wood structure in FL is never a good idea. Did feel very clean though. HUGE spider in the enterance, but again .. FL all wood building and surrounded by large oak trees. Had all you can eat fish, shrimp, clams, etc. Food was very food - especially white fish. Yum. Kids enjoyed and it's fun to see the train so close. Will go again.

Food is good. Get there early for a parking spot that isn't in the weeds. Their gator tail is awesome - tender, soft, and almost melts in your mouth. Probably the best I've had in the area considering other places I've eaten it serve it tough as shoe leather with a swampy taste. I don't know what they do at Willies to make it taste as good as it does. Most trips we've had were fine. Wait service on the last trip left a little to be desired. Waitress pulled a Houdini as soon as we sat down. By the time she came back, she was slammed with a full section and just started randomly taking orders. We were the first to be seated and he last to even get drinks. The gator tail made up for it.

This is the best seafood restaurant I've found in Florida. It's very close to the Calabash style seafood that I grew up with. Very friendly staff. A genuinely unique place.

My parents dinner was great tasting as they said but on the other hand my steak was suppose to be well done it came out raw ''red''. So our waitress came and took the steak to the back and it came back out less than 2 minutes fast on the grill as I called it as so when I got the steak back at the table it was still blood shot red. So the waitress kindly asked since this problem still exist let's your steak dinner off the bill so I said please this is one of the nastiest steak dinners I ever had. The lady waitress even said this steak is nasty and couldn't even bare to eat. So the steak was taken off the bill. Eat to their own risk!!!! Ps...I even added a photo of my steak.

Came here with a group of friends for some seafood. I ordered the grouper and it was not fresh. I was very disappointed! Others in the party enjoyed their meal.

Restaurants like Willies remind me of my homeland in Tennessee. Down home delicious meals, friendly wait staff and awesome menu choices. The parking lot is always packed and it's not hard to see why! We had fun trying to name all of the different types of fish they had displayed on their walls!

This place is what Joe's Crab Shack wants to be. Good food , out of the way location but always a good crowd every time I'm in Tampa. Prices are very reasonable, service has always been excellent. Parking's a reach but you put up with it. No pretentiousness here. Try the gator appetizer. My son tells me it used to be "Fat Willie's" so I guess that proves fried fish is dietary and healthful. I know it's good for my soul, anyway. Enjoy!

I had not been to Willies in several years, so we decided to try it again. The food and service was awesome. Our waitress Stephanie was totally awesome with her service, and her suggestion of what to order (I could not decide). She was friendly, w/o being intrusive.

A great assortment of seafood at good prices set right next to the woods. Not fancy, but probably the best seafood I've had, and I've eaten seafood in Florida since I was a little boy. Perhaps a little out of the way in Valrico, but very worthwhile.

Great service. Very casual atmosphere. Great food. We had alligator bites and soft shell crab sandwiches. Our companions had blackened grouper and scallops. Everything was perfectly prepared, and every desire anticipated and filled. My second time here in three years, but our companions are there often. No complaints.

Was pretty good. Tilapia was a little bland but hush puppies, scallops, shrimp and gator bites were amazing!!

Well, we heard about this place when we moved here last August. So, when visitors from NJ came into town we took them there... all of us (6) ready to experience "Willies". WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!!!! I was so embarrassed to have taken them to a place where the food was so awful! first of all, our server kept disappearing, hard to catch her. She served beer to one of our guests daughters friend and she never carded her, the girl is 17!!!!!!! ( of course we did not let her drink it )The coleslaw is disgusting, the all you can eat fish dish was bland, even though the menu states "CAJUN SPICES" I ordered the mixed seafood pasta dish. It stated served over Linguine pasta, well in all my 58 years of Italian cooking, I hate to say, the pasta was NOT linguine, it was Fettucine! It was totally undercooked, not just al dente, UNDERCOOKED!! I had to chew it to eat it. It was also flavorless once again, despite telling me it had mild CAJUN SPICES. My husband and I lived in Louisiana for almost 6 years during Military service and trust me, it wasn't mild, it was NONE! After speaking to the server, she told me I was wrong and don't know what I am talking about on either issue. And not once did the manager come to see what was wrong. TRUST THIS WILLIE..... I will NEVER come back or recommend you to anyone.

My husband is from this part of Florida and we were on vacation visiting family . This is a neat no frills and goooood off the beaten path spot! My in-laws took here and we had a real good meal..fried oysters, gulf shrimp were not over cooked and the batter was light and just crunchy...cole slaw was cold and not real flavorful (not too sweet or sour) but good...and the red potatoes were done up nice...boiled i think and then fried a little to get some color and crunch to them and the hush puppies were pretty good too...also we had a dinner salad with blackened mahi-mahi that was seasoned very good...service was a bit slow but for this was an all you can eat on certain items tuesday so i understand as the room was packed with mostly older (maybe retired) folks. Give this place a try...we will definitely come back next time we vist!

Average place but I will say the fried pickles were great. If your wanting fried fried and more fried fish, oysters, and shrimp. I say fried because I went for blackened and broiled and fried. They actually offered a special that I could have it 3-ways. Fried for me was the only manageable way to go. I will be fair and tell you I went with three others and the got their "grub" on. They left satisfied, of course I was paying. Why does food always taste better when someone else pays? Back to what I was saying the bill floored me! 4 people $78 before tip. OK, if I would have loved it i wouldn't have balked. I will never go back but unfortunately my friends love the place and i am sure I will relent at some point in the future.

WoW, what a pleasant surprise. Great, tasty sea food, great specials, great service. Only draw back is the "cole-slaw" (we just order extra hush-puppies instead).

This use to be a great local spot. However, over the past couple years their reviews have become more negative. My wife and I had a bad experience thee a couple months ago. Having tried to give the owner/Mgr the opportunity to make it right on may occasions but he has chosen to just totally ignore us. Buyers beware.

I don't give many 5 star reviews, but Willie's was so good, we went back two nights in a row! I have lived here now for over three years and been sorely dissapointed in seafood places around here, frankly very surprised that they weren't better. Seafood places I've been to around here are mostly shrimp (which I'm not crazy about), expensive grouper (if they even had local fresh fish), and even more expensive non-local fish. And I know I'm offending the locals, but I'm just not a fan of smoked mullet. But then we found Willie's. This is the kind of place I've been looking for. FRESH, FRESH, FRESH! And it isn't all shrimp and grouper (although the grouper was excellent and not $14.99 a pound, Publix!). The menu has a great variety of preparations (but yes....most people I saw had fried something), and a very good mixture of local grouper, catfish, haddock, tilapia, and other shellfish, scallops, crawfish, oysters, and yes, shrimp. First night I started with a lobster bisque (a special) that was very, very good. Main course was a Grouper Ponchatrain, broiled grouper topped with crawfish and a smoky cream sauce. A little heavy on the butter, but spectacularly cooked and flavorful. I skipped the hush puppies, had the cole slaw. There's some cole slaw complaints on here and I'll tell you it's a bit plain and food processed, but tastes fresh and "unsugared" which is a plus in my book. My wife had the New Orleans Grouper, which was very similar, but without all the cream (still had all the butter....). How can you go wrong! We liked it so much we decided to go back on Friday night. They ran a fish and chips special (haddock) for $9.99. Some of the best I've ever had, and I grew up in Boston, mind you. Lightly battered so the fresh fish comes through. Four good sized pieces; a great value. My wife had a seafood pasta with a creole sauce that she said was pretty good, but not as good as it could have been. There was something about the sauce that didn't quite satisfy. We speculated whether the sauce was pre-prepared; not sure. Some other things to say about Willie's: Willie's is generously called a shack - it's more like eating in an old wooden garage; don't go in there expecting fine dining. This isn't the place you go to for your anniversary or your wedding rehearsal dinner. On second thought, I suppose that depends on who you are. This is a local's place. A little hard to find (but that's good), and the clientele is pretty...well...local. This place is great for groups. Our table the first night was pretty close to the hostess stand and I was very surprised to find a steady stream of groups of 8-12 coming in and being seated in a reasonable time. Some had called ahead, others not so. This is a busy place, too. Speaking of great for groups, I was very surprised at how accomodating the staff is and how service-oriented they are. On Friday evening as we were waiting to be seated, a man came in trying to arrange for a group of 12 with about 45 minutes notice. They weren't all waiting there, but the hostess gave him a couple of options that met his needs, and then asked for his phone number so she could call him to tell him his table was ready. And the place was packed, with tables turning over frequently. I have never seen that unless you are a "special friend" of the owner. This guy had no connections that I could see. Now that's service. If you live here and you like fresh seafood, you have got to go to Willie's. Skip Bonefish.
