I've tried and tried to find a good Mexican food place in Ft. Lauderdale etc. however I'm still searching for it. I did find though an excellent place up the road about an hour in Jupiter and will gladly travel that far just to get some good Enchiladas! Get the Mole, it's delicious!!

Rancho Chico has a couple of locations locally. I always go to this one on US1 in Tequesta. They are open for lunch and dinner. It is a casual family friendly place suitable for a family meal or a night out with the boys or girls. They can accommodate larger parties. The food is always good. The service could be a little faster. Highly recommended.

A pretty average place, but offers good value. The margaritas are from the "slurpee" machine at the end of the bar...totally pre-mixed and guaranteed to give you a sugar headache. Only had the appetizer sampler but it was really large and was not too bad until it got cold. Sit at the bar for quick service, which is friendly and attentive.

I have visited Rancho Chico twice. Everything is pretty much "ok". Food, service, atmosphere, prices, value. It is a lower 3 for sure, but I'll give it a 3.

This was our second visit here in a search for a nearby "go to" Mexican restaurant and Rancho Chico isn't it. I never find Mexican much of a dining experience, including a number of trips to Mexico. I think only Chef Rick Bayless believes Mexican can reach great heights. To me it's all brown and tastes damn near the same only with a different wrapper. I ordered a beef Chimichanga served with, not surprisingly beans and rice. This Chimichanga was soft and covered with sauce. Maybe it wasn't a Chimichanga but who could tell? I always thought they were fried and crisp. My sister-in-law's platter arrived without the ubiquitous beans and rice and the waiter had to have her point out on the menu that it was included. He brought out a large order quickly and we "dined" in the nearly empty restaurant on a Saturday night. The bill arrived with an extra charge of $3.50 for the beans & rice which we pointed out to the waiter. He took the bill and returned quickly stating "I'll have to let the manager know about that", and nothing had changed, the bill still reflected the additional charge. My guess is, given the B&R side order size, he ordered a la carte through the computer POP rather than go in the kitchen and have the cook just make a quick side dish. Lacking patience and suspecting I was dealing with a "spacey" waiter I circled the extra charge, deducted it from the tip, and wrote a note suggesting he get the balance from the manager. On our first visit we enjoyed the Margaritas but the food then was equally lackluster.

Another restaurant who can't get an order right. Then they question why I don't swipe the rice off my friends entree plate?? I guess they missed the whole point of table service. I'll stick w chipotle where you can watch and correct if needed. Quality is about the same.

I am not really a fan of Mexican food, but I enjoyed Rancho Chico. The interior is nicely decorated for an inexpensive place. I had some kind of steak fajita and everything tasted really good. They gave me the choice between corn and flour tortillas - but I thought the wait staff could be a little better. All in all, it was a good place to stop for an inexpensive meal on a road trip.

Not too bad for mexican food. I think my girl and I should've split an entree though because we both walked out of there super uncomfortable. Typical mexican fare though. Cheesy, gooey, hot, and fairly good. I'd say give it a shot.

Standard Mexican food, inexpensive drinks, large local crowd..... This was our first time here. We live in the area and often pass by. On a few occasions there was a nice crowd and the place looked busy. To me, that's a good sign. The place needs some updating but the ambience was typical Mexican casual. There was a lively group at the bar, mixed ages, and we learned that drinks were very reasonable. They don't have a happy hour; this is their usual pricing. A glass of Kendal Jackson Chardonnay was only $6.25! We were immediately served warm corn chips and a delicious salsa. Since it was so good, we passed on an appetizer and just ordered dinner. My husband and I both ordered the Fajitas. I ordered the shrimp and he ordered the steak variety. There was the usual peppers and onions on a hot skillet with all the sides: rice, beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole and warm corn or flour tortillas. Check my photos. The portions were large so we had enough to take home for tomorrow's dinner. Good solid food, very tasty and not expensive. I didn't give it the full 5 stars because it was nothing special, but we will return.

Our family wanted to spend Cinco de Mayo at this restaurant. It was a long wait, said an hour or so. We waited 3 hours, while we watched people who came long after us get sat. We also asked to be separated for quicker seating. We finally got sat, because we sat down at an empty table. We got harassed by other other patrons and the manager wouldn't apologize. Very sad, and I wouldn't recommend to anyone. Manager was horrible

Delicious food, fast service and fun environment. You'll never leave hungry, the portions are huge. It's my favorite place to get Mexican food! The guacamole, salsa and chips are dangerously good, you have to pace yourself or you might be too stuffed for your meal!!

Oh, the mole, oh, oh!!! The mole rojo sauce on the enchiladas was the stuff of dreams. The guacamole and salsa seemed fresh and chuck full of fresh veggies. And...it was CHEAP! Why can't Fort Lauderdale have good affordable Mexican??!!

Service was great. The food was good as well. We feel that the salsa makes or breaks a Mexican restaurant. My husband doesn't like onions (I prefer very few) and that was the majority of the salsa. It was very chunky. The juice had a great flavor, but we like to pour salsa over our food when it comes and it was too chunky for that. I felt it was clean and fast though. The rest of the food was great quality.

The food was good. the service was absolutely Unacceptable! We asked the server and the bartender for a birthday cake for a friend while ordering dinner. The server said he would check to see if they could accomodate our request. The bartender was so incredibly rude it was ridiculous! He told us to go to Walmart if we wanted a cake or Baskin Robbins because the kitchen was closed and they would not serve us any birthday! The bartender was the rudest I have ever been served by! The server could have cared less. It was absolutely unacceptable the way were treated. I want everyone to know...

Paid another visit to this place out of desperation one Sunday. The place we we going to was closed. Decided to get nothing but beer and plain old tacos. Ordered them with soft corn tortillas and chicken. Must say that they were pretty darn good. This will probably be our place to walk to for tacos and beer. But...... I'll still stick to my original rating on everything else.

The food is nothing more than a mediocre mexican place. The service is not very good but the atmosphere makes up for it. Unfortunately, there is not another good mexican place nearby. Go here if you have no other place to go. Otherwise, drive south to Lake Park or WPB for better mexican.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
