Just had lunch at Ribit's. Clearly, he knows how to BBQ. Great flavor and good selection of sauces. I would recommend Ribit's to anyone looking for the real thing.

I'm from Texas, so I suppose whatever I write will be harsh, but I can't help it. I ordered the ribs and two sides, and I was disappointed. Nevertheless, I needed food, MacDinton's was crowded, and this place was open next door. The ribs were not flavorful, the collard greens were too salty (oh I missed Mikki's Cafe!), and the mac & cheese was better at MacDinton's. Oh well, it fulfilled the need of solid calories. The service is very fast, if that helps. I do want to try the crawfish, if I ever go again.

Really good grilled/BBQ food...but not worth the price they put on it. One meat plus two sides is almost $11. The serving of meat is sort of big, just not $10 worth. It is tasty though, and I would recommend it if you don't mind paying a few extra dollars (which I assume many South Tampa-ites don't). I like that they have Coca-Cola products with real sugar...the kind you get from Mexico ;-) Oh and try the banana pudding...it's pretty good!

If you take a girl on a first date here and she enjoys the date, ask her to marry you immediately. Alright, When I went to Ribit's I was drunk, so who knows how good the food actually was, but at the time, I thought it was awesome. Sure, it looks like an automotive service station, but that doesn't mean they can't make good BBQ. We shared ribs and chicken with two sides for $20. Can't get too much better than that. The ribs had good flavor, but I made some mistakes with a combination of sauces.

Best Tampa BBQ hands down. Owner is from Bama, and trust me, if Alabama knows anything other than college football (roll tide) it's BBQ. Has all the basics you'd want plus creative and tasty sides, and large portions...all at reasonable price. I usually get pork sandwich (outside meat for extra crunch) & mac & cheese.....but their ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender with great hickory smoke flavor.

Country music, fresh craw fish, the only place to get Boudin, All the sides are fresh. Ribs, Texas brisket, homemade smoked sausage, The best pulled pork, gumbo, red beans and rice, jambalia!!! This BBQ shop is located between a bunch of great bars and clubs in Hyde Park. It's high quality food at a decent price. They are open very late and the owner/cook is completely hilarious. He takes a lot of pride in his BBQ and it shows.

Tell the truth and shame the devil!!! That's what I plan on doing in this review. Vikki and I stumbled upon this rib joint back on Father's Day when taking my pop's to W.O.B. and we spotted it across the street and said we had to try it one day and this past Saturday was that day. I already knew I didn't want anything heavy so I got a pulled pork sandwich and intrigued byv the look of the tomatoes side dish I got that too. Now the sandwich was huge and very tender they have four different sauces to choose from and we did the sweet sauce and it was on point with the pork....BUT the tomatoes was very very bland no flavor at all Vikki had mac n cheese and she was very disappointed it tasted like box Velveeta lol and the guy behind the counter said they run thru 500 lbs of it in a week lol stop it bruh. My sandwich was fire but the sides were a little amateurish. Will I return ummmm hell I don't know. Peace

I ate here with my partner and our nephew for under 40.00 bucks......that never happens. All three of us left full and satisfied. We all enjoyed everything we ordered and would have given the place five starts if not for the run down area inside. It won't take much to fix the roof and throw a coat of paint. This is south tampa after all.

Best pulled pork in Tampa! This is without question! The problem is that they are sometimes inconsistent with their food quality. Service is always good!

Disclosure: I'm a vegetarian. The BBQ sandwich looked tasty, but I didn't taste it. Instead, I selected among the sides (while an extremely drunk person kept bothering me). All the sides were pretty expensive and looked alright. I ended up getting the "tomato motz" salad. It was pretty good but nothing to write home about.

Everything about this place is horrible! From the workers to the food to the treatment of their customers. If u thrive for great service delicious food and courteous workers this is not the place to go!!!

The setup and location are very convenient and probably the best part of Ribit's. I've tried the pulled pork and brisket sandwiches and they were both pretty tasty. There are about five BBQ sauces to choose from which are good too. The sides are lacking and for the price (~13.00 for a sandwich and two sides) you are better off just getting a sandwich (6-7.99).

Went with a co-worker after a long day. I ordered their Pulled Pork sandwich - it was HUGE and juicy. Very delicious! Fries are a great value too!

Terrible experience. I went in yesterday and asked the counter person how much for a sandwich and a side. She responded unless you get the piggy platter the side and sandwich are both the same price. I commented that that is very unusual. A man from the back then came out and said, "get your cheap ass out of here.". I asked who he was and he claimed to be an owner. I said you really own this place and talk to people like that. The man lacking couth then said I need to leave. I told him that's fine, but understand me and all of my friends will never eat here again. He responded you don't have any friends and got in my face. I will never go to Ribbits again and I live in SoHo. I scuds the same to you

Ribit's is a hole in the wall dive in every sense of the word. But the BBQ is delicious and the convenience of being able to walk (or stumble!) down Howard to satisfy a late night craving is priceless. The menu is pretty substantial and the the spice rub and smoking provide great flavor. The portions are hefty and the BBQ sauce comes in sweet, spicy, vinegar and mustard style in giant water jugs off to the side of the counter. Service is prompt, but once the bars let out be warned there will be a line ....

Average barbeque wiith poor service, I'll go elsewhere. I was with some vegetarians, but the location was great, so we swung in to try some sides. I ordered one of each side and whoever the guy was behind the counter, seemed like maybe the owner or manager, made such a big deal about me ordering sides because he had to spoon each one into plastic tubs. And spoon he did as he threw the sides into them. When I told him that if it's too much trouble, I can go somewhere else, he responded with, "no bro, you ordered it. You're holding up the line." Needless to say, The sides totaled up to more than what the average person was spending there, and after all that, the sides were just ok. There are too many good BBQ joints in Tampa to act like that. The location might be good, but that's no reason to treat a paying customer like that, even if the food was good, which is wasn't.

Surprisingly good BBQ in south Tampa. A solid 4.5. I was dying for BBQ, and this place was closest to my house. I love that Ribits is in an old service station. I love the smoky air around it. Even though we aren't Alabama fans, I even love the Crimson Tide memorabilia on the walls. We shared the Porky Platter. For $17.95, you get two meats and two sides. We chose the pork ribs and the pulled pork. After all, pork makes the best bbq. We were not disappointed. The ribs had fall off the bone tenderness. The pulled pork was excellent. We couldn't decide which sauce we liked the best -- they were all good, and the meat tasted great with all. Sides were meh, but we were in search of meat, so we didn't care. I love that there is diet Coke in bottles too.

Stay away. Bbq tastes like oil from a used truck. This is an embarrassment too bbq. All ppl who put favorable reviews might still be drunk from staggering from the near by bars. This is NOT bbq, this is garbage. service was good, but the food was oily and disgusting.

The rib sandwich consisted of four meaty ribs piled on top of two slices of plain white bread. Full flavored, smoky moist pork nearly burst from the skin as I took a bite. They were perfectly tender, hot and fresh. Sauce wasn't needed for these ribs, but with a presentation as unique as this I at least had to try it out. Four sauces were loaded in plastic water coolers, where a push of a button dispensed it's contents onto your plate. I sampled both the sweet and the N.C. vinegar. While both were an adequate representation of their style, frankly neither contributed enough to be worth adding to the flavor equation. The sides held their own; big chunks of red skinned potatoes in a mayonnaise/mustard dressing made for good potato salad, and the banana pudding was top notch as well, it's thick consistency containing equal amounts smooth bananas and crunchy vanilla wafers. In the end, Ribits came through with quality 'que in an interesting location. In answer to one of the misinformed commenters on another review site who complained they couldn't get the smoky smell off their fingers after eating here: that's not a problem, that's the way it's supposed to be.

Great Drunk Food. Average BBQ I've been here several times after stumbling out of the bars at 2 AM and it hits the spot almost everytime. I've had a bunch of stuff from their and the only thing thats keeping them 4 stars is pricing and consistency of the food. Ribs - They'll be fall-off-the-bone tender one night and tough and chewy the next night (10 bucks) Crawfish - the one time i had them, they were overcooked. they were seasoned just about right but the meat just broke apart wayy to easily to be enjoyable (16 bucks?) Pulled Pork - THE BEST BET - on point every time. just figure out the best combo of free sauces that go along with the sandwich and you can go home happy. (8 bucks) look to spend anywhere from $8-20 depending out how drunk you are ;). the price points are on par with a lot of bbq places i've eaten at. only problem is that the sides that come with some of the meals are reaally small portions. oh and if you get their early enough before they get busy, the lovely ladies their will give you some line dancing lessons!

Come here iff you're drunk. Nothing is bad just no flavor. Just like you're eating the mush showed in matrix. Like they opened a can and that's it. Just not thrilled. We ate everything, but aren't jonesing to go back

bomb ass food and the owner is one cool dude. Went here with my friends one day and had a good time hanging out there plus enjoying some great food. I think i ate everything on the menu: catfish, ribs, chicken, smoked sausage, and all the side dishes. All damn good. I live in cali now and the bbq sucks out here so I am glad i got to go to this place when i was in tampa visiting my old friends.

This 4-star rating is based SOLELY on the convenience of location after having a few drinks (especially while at WOB across the street), the spicy BBQ sauce, and the pulled pork sandwiches. I've had their Mac n cheese and cornbread and, meh. But the pulled pork has never let me down! And really, that's all I need from a late-night BBQ joint in the middle of SOHO.

Ribits is pretty decent BBQ. Here is my take on it: The good: - I went there for lunch on a random Tuesday, and the service was super fast and the people working there were friendly. - I really like that they have so many BBQ sauce choices, and I really like the spicy and sweet ones. - The portions are HUGE, the chicken was lean and juicy, and the pulled pork was, as well. - Parking was easy that time of day, and the overall location of the place is good. The bad: - The other two BBQ sauce flavors were pretty awful. The vinegar one was pretty vile, and the mustard one was so stinky that I couldnt get myself to try it. - While the meat was good, I thought it lacked a little flavor. For my taste buds, it definitely needed the sauce. - The sides I got were not good. The mac and cheese was bland. It needed salt or something. The corn bread was totally tasteless. Its sitting in my fridge now just hanging out until I throw it away. I was thinking, maybe the sides tasted so bland because I had eaten a bunch of strong, hot BBQ sauce beforehand? I am not sure, so its worth trying the, again before the meat. - Dont bring it home to eat. Your house will smell like BBQ days. Its not a Texas BBQ, and its not an authentic Bama BBQ either, even though the guy who owns the joint is apparently from there. Getting BBQ in Tampa is sort of like getting NY pizza in Denver or Tex Mex in Minnesota. Its just not the same. But, for here, this is pretty darn good BBQ. I will be back.

I hate to say that this place only stands because of its convenience for drunken eats. I wasn't particularly keen on the meal I had when I tried it out. This was my pre-game meal. As if calories from alcohol aren't enough, I like to eat before, during, and after drinking. The new food truck is now stationed to take some business away. No bueno. Regardless, the staff is friendly. I LOVE the ambiance of country music and picnic tables. This would be a great place to slow dance with your lady out in the open. Give it a whirl to see if you tickles your taste buds. Hell, I'm sure you won't care so much while you're earning your SOUSED BADGE on the app. Cheers!

I really wanted to like Ribit's BBQ. It is very alluring with is wide open setting and loud country music blasting for the masses. It just has the look as if it were to have awesome BBQ. Unfortunately, my friends and I were wrong. The brisket was just average at best and the portion described to be a sharing proportion left my friend and I wanting for some more. The ribs were a big size, but just not that tasty. The sides were awful. I grimaced with every bite of slaw and beans. I do not waste, so i sucked it up. Its saving grace was the ambiance with its country music and dance floor. It is very appealing. For BBQ, go elsewhere; for line-dancing, come here.

Best BBQ in the nation. I've had BBQ in Kansas, Texas, North Carolina, you name it. Ribit BBQ is hands down the best anywhere. Tony is great fun too and his staff are the best. Great sauces (4 to choose from - or do what I did and get a full rack of ribs so you have plenty of food to try them all). Laid back good time and the best food, period. We drove 4 hours each way and it was worth the trip.

Little "hole in the wall" type spot built inside of an old gas station location in South Tampa with really good BBQ. The guy that owns the joint is a good ol boy from Alabama which always helps my confidence in a BBQ spot ya know. My "go to" meal at BBQ places is a pulled pork sandwich and it's really good here. I love their spicy BBQ sauce as well. I don't eat many side plates but all the people I take there have liked what they got including the mac n cheese, fries, black eyed peas and baked beans. It's open late Tuesday through Saturday for the bar scene looking for late night food as well. It's the kind of place that you can walk right up off the street to the counter and order, get your food, and be on your way in 5 minutes. There are a few picnic benches outside you can sit and eat at. Good BBQ is few and far between in Tampa but this place is pretty legit.

Really good BBQ, especially when drunk foraging on South Howard. The beans are delicious, so is the mac and cheese, and the pulled pork sandwich with sausage on top is excellent. They have four different types of sauces in Gatorade-style buckets, and you put your styrofoam container of food underneath and pour it directly on whatever you're eating. The spicy one is their best, as its got some heat but not so much it overwhelms. It's a converted gas station, so the atmosphere is also fun. You'll run into a true cross section of the city there, but a lot of the seating is outside. If the weather isn't great, they don't have too many places to post up inside, so you might want to consider to-go. Great place with great food... and it'll help keep those SoHo hangovers in line the next day!

I've been to Ribit's BBQ several times since it opened, including a visit tonight. I always want this BBQ to be really good. As a Kansas City gal in a former life, sometimes my mouth just starts salivating at the thought of good BBQ. But, every time I go I am underwhelmed. Is the location on Howard convenient and unique in a converted gas station...heck yes. Is this probably a good spot in your early twenties after you've been drinking too much? Heck, yes. Is the price right for a pulled pork or beef brisket sandwich? At $7 for the amount of meat and size of the sandwich...heck, yes. Tonight I had the Porky platter which is one meat and 2 sides for 10.95. I went with the brisket, collard greens and macaroni and cheese. The brisket had good flavor, smoky and lean, but it was dry and needed some BBQ sauce. Ribits has several to choose from...spicy, sweet, tangy, and NC sauce. I'm really not a fan of any of them. Sweet is how I was raised...and there is nothing here that comes close to that. But, I went for their version of the sweet and it was good on the brisket. The collards had a good bite to them, but were almost flavorless. I could taste vinegar and nothing else. I wish they had some spices or meat to give more flavor. Lastly the macaroni and cheese had that plastic shine to it and again it was completely lacking flavor. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich on a large sesame seed bun. He devoured it with the spicy sauce. The pork was a little more juicy and was not fatty at all. Points for that. He got a side of potato salad though and the flavorless theme continued. Somebody throw a little salt on something here at least. Dinner for two came to $24 dollars. I suggest sticking to the meat here only. The sides can be skipped. Ribits gets three stars for convenient location, good meats, and friendly staff.

Eh.... Disappointed. This place had a lot of potential for me.... Right up the street from my house, on the way home from the bars, cool converted gas station that I've wished would "be something" for years, and BBQ, one of my boyfriend's and my favorite cuisines. Maybe I wanted more than could be expected from a BBQ joint in a converted gas station, maybe I heard too much hype about how good it was from friends who scarfed down BBQ amidst a night out on Howard.... Whatever it was, I was unimpressed. The brisket was dry and eh. None of the sides tasted that good- in fact, they all kind of tasted the same. And I love me some BBQ sides. Just a disappointment all in all. However, maybe it's just me-- my boyfriend loves the place, and he has had their ribs on multiple occasions now. I myself won't go back any time soon.

Wow! So much unfufilled potential. I live in the Orlando area in the heart of 4 Rivers Country, a bbq that has changed the Orlando BBQ scene from miserable failure to eternal bliss. I meandered into World of Beer yesterday while in Tampa and couldn't help notice the wonderful aroma of smoking wood exuding from across the street at Ribit's. I was in a state of high olfactory alert. I sat there through a few quality beers working up an appetite and talked to the locals about Ribits. Sitting next to me was a 30 year old accountant who brought in a sandwich off a food truck from McDentons. I asked the server who said that nobody likes it because it is too smoky. As I listened I watched. What I saw was that nobody was going to Ribits. The location is perfect in the heart of Soho and the converted gas.reminiscent of Oklahoma Joe's in Kansas City, yet nary a human in sight for hours, so what's wrong? By Noon on Sunday 4 Rivers has already served hundreds of partrons and yet 70 miles West in a wonderful location Ribit's sits vacant. Why? I went right up to the register at 1:30 and was the only customer there. For $10.95 a pop I order two one meat and two side platters. I tried all there sauces, the sweet, the spicy, and the vynegar which you can pump yourself into little containers to add to your order. I ordered, fries and baked bean as my sides. The pulled pork was of perfect consistency, hearty and lean and not stringy or straw like. The portion was plentiful as nobody should leave a BBQ joint hungry. The brisket gave the appearance of being overdone. The most cardinal rule in BBQ is DO NOT OVERSMOKE. It was readily apparent that this rule was violated in extreme measures. The acrid flavor of the meat from oversmoking was ubiquitious in evey bite and was the utlimate deal killer. What a shame, because the potential is there. The pulled pork had a wonderful appearance (better than 4 rivers) but never had a chance due to Smoke Shock. The fries were the type you get in a bowling alley and were not as appealling as Sony's crinkle cuts. They should abort that failed mission. The baked beans were completely bland and on par with Van Camps out of a can. I would add some of the spicy and sweet sauce and a few chunks of pulled pork to bring the beans to life. There are no pickles or jalapeno's available for the sandwich that might have mitigated the tastes of the harsh oversmoked meatkill. I thought the spicy sauce was spectacular, offering a flavorful heat without needless pain. The sweet sauce was very tasty as well and even the vynegar sauce was first rate. In fact I took eight containers fo the sauce to go and consumed every drop. With some adjustments incorporated within this review there is no reason this place cannot be just as busy as 4 Rivers, if not you will just scratch your head across the street at World of Beer saying to yourself, "what if?"

What's with all the poor reviews? This place is some of the more decent barbecue I've had. I tried the ribs and brisket sandwich. Ribs were good; nice bark, not too heavy on the rub--just enough to let you know they did something to them. Brisket sandwich was okay; meat was tender, but not a huge amount of flavor. Although I was more a fan of the ribs than the brisket sandwich, the brisket was still better than most I've had. Definitely recommended.

Not too shabby. The Q here will definitely satisfy any craving one might have, but you're not going to get that deep, smoky flavor that might be expected based on the wonderful smells outside. La Chica and I ordered a pulled pork Sammy with potato salad and beans, and because we weren't starving, it was big enough to split, with ease. Potato salad was wonderful, as were the beans. I'd go back just for the sides alone. The sandwich was good. The meat was tender, hot and a lot! It was just lacking a little bit in the flavor department. I like that they have multiple Gatorade type coolers setup to dispense the many BBQ sauces. My suggestion would be to have an employee wipe them down every few hours or so because they were pretty scary-looking. Other than that, everything was good enough for a return visit should I craved some Q while bar-hopping in Oscawana.

  • Drew A.

I think I would give this place 4 stars on concept alone. A corner gas station/auto repair shop turned BBQ venue... genius. Seriously, if every corner spot that went out of biz started slinging ribs, the world would be a better place. Any who, I tried the pulled pork and mac n cheese here and it was way beyond acceptable. While it won't top any 'best bbq' list, it was perfect for the moment (12:30am on a Friday). The pulled pork was plentiful and made even better with their multiple bbq sauces and the mac and cheese was heavy and rich, just how I like it. If I was in the area (and it was past 10pm), I'd hit this place hard. Would I take a 15 min drive or more to get here? Iffy.
