Delicious Cafe' con Leche and it goes amazing with a Cuban Breakfast Sandwich. Very friendly staff. Quick service. Parking can be somewhat of a challenge but well worth it!

I used to love Pipo's in the 1990's, when they were rated as best Cuban food in the Tampa area. Now the one on McDill is the only one left, and it is actually under a different owner than the original Pipo's. The other Pipo's are now Holy Hog BBQ's (see review on Holy Hog). I stopped by the McDill Pipo's because of the memories I had of succulent, juicy Mojo pork.... one of my favorite dishes! It is still good (not as good as I remember... but nothing is ever as good as memory makes it, right?) The Lechon Asado was indeed juicy, tender and had that wonderful mojo criollo flavor. Rice was good, Black beans were good, and the side of Platanos I ordered were very good. Service was good, basic cafeteria style service... no issues Building was under construction inside... which is never great... but why give a negative to that, when they are trying to make the place better? Parking is minimal.. but doable. As far as "real cubans don't eat here" or "Teresita is better"? I know several "real" Cuban's that still eat here... and like it (I use to work with a couple of them). Teresita is good... and I enjoy it, but I am not a real fan of the diner barstool experience you get there presently. We all have things we like and don't like, right? As far as Pipo's goes... food is good, and is very reasonable. Recommended!

I know a lot of people, including my husband, that absolutely love this place. As a vegetarian, I can't review the whole menu, but usually at places like this I can get some amazing black beans and rice or a good breakfast sandwich. I have to say that I agree with what someone else said, there is no spice to any of the food that I have tried. I never end up finishing my food and always leave feeling unsatisfied. Every time my husband drags me there, I try to give it another chance, but each time is more disappointing than the last. I might feel differently if I was a coffee drinker and meat-eater.

I love a Cuban style breakfast. I can't get the type of breakfast I got in Miami, but this is serviceable. The sandwiches are okay, a long omelette on Cuban bread is a regular meal, this was not memorable. The bread portions they serve with breakfast are a little skimpy. They give you a nice bowl of grits. The service is semi cafeteria. The ladies will bring your orders and clean up though. What's good is they can make a good cup of Cuban coffee. Some places can't hack that.

This restaurant doesn't even deserve one star. Worst service/ food I've ever experienced. I was appalled by the rudeness of the employees. While ordering, the woman taking my order walked away in the middle of me speaking 3 different times. Usually you can't go wrong with ordering a Cuban sandwich right? Wrong! This was the coldest, blandest, grossest Cuban I've ever had. My husband got a mojo pork sandwich which was only bland pork on Cuban bread. No dipping sauce.. Awful! I wish I could've complained to someone but I know none of the people working there would care. They also should be reported for child labor because a 5 year old is cleaning all the tables and doing other small tasks. I have no idea how this place is still in business but I know I'm never going back.

The Cafe con Leche is amazing here, and the reason I keep coming back. For food - I've had their breakfast sandwiches, which are great, and their biscuits and gravy, which are completely flavorless. I come here just for the Cafe con Leche some mornings, but I wish they could work out their ordering system. Whether you're ordering food or just coffee, the line is the same. Sometimes I walk in and immediately walk back out when I see the long food line because I don't have time to wait for just coffee! It would be great if they could have a line solely dedicated to just coffee/beverage orders. Also, though the Cafe con Leche is usually delicious, it is inconsistent depending on who made it that morning.

Very average breakfast. There's certainly better options in the area. I got the French toast, but my friend liked his breakfast Cuban.

They had Decent sandwiches and good service. Normal prices for a lunch Cuban sandwich. They have enough seating for one or a small crowd.

Love this place the food is so good. Prices are decent and the portions and good. Try the Cuban sandwich. Won't be disappointed

This is a local place. I had no idea where to stand and order, if I was supposed to grab a tray? The women behind the counter seemed annoyed and not quite helpful. My Cuban sandwhich was cold in the middle and they forgot the pickles :-(

The food is average. If you can get over the terrible service. Tables are always dirty. Staff looks at you like you're an asshole constantly. My mother keeps making us all go back for some unknown reason. This is literally my experience every time.

I love Pipo's! Great service, good prices, and lots of food. Sure, the place isn't beautiful, but does it need to be? The Cuban food is good. It's not the best I've ever tasted, but it's still tasty. I had leftovers from Pipo's and they still warmed up well and tasted just as good as they did when I ate at the restaurant, so I'll consider this place a win.

Key points: -Service is horrendous -Insulation in the dining area -Awfully slow service -Just go to La Teresita (might be busy, and ladies with heavy English accents, but atleast they try to be quick, courteous, and provide service) Came here based on location and hunger. There was construction inside, still not a reason to allow debris and insulation into dining area (against code?). Ladies were extremely rude. It was like no one wanted to take an order, what's the point of working? Lady speaking Spanish in between taking my order (I actually am fluent in Spanish so I can understand your snarky remarks). Another younger black lady takes my order, it's 10:41 and I ordered breakfast--bad idea breakfast ended only 11 minutes earlier (10:30). Orders a cuban, young lady rolls her eyes, tells the spanish speaking lady who then puts up the ticket (didn't know you needed a production line to make an order?). Couldn't pay right away because the cash register was being closed/reopened. Was told I'll have to wait for a Cuban sandwich, guess what I waited atleast 10 minutes...no Cuban sandwich yet? Stood in line again to ask about my sandwich, young lady on the phone taking orders while 2 other Spanish speaking ladies gossiped and walked around. Let's just say I'm being nice when I say the staff was unprofessional, rude, nonexistent, or just horrendous attitudes/manners. I'd recommend other places for breakfast or Cuban food. Plus prices can be lowered for quality.

The only people who eat at Pipo's Cuban Cafe are non-Cubans. That should tell you everything you need to know right there about this substandard restaurant, but I will share some more details. The food in general is like eating the food at a school cafeteria or nursing home: bland, overcooked, stewing in water for hours, generally gross. The employees are rude and indifferent. They could care less about you or your order. The only redeeming qualities about this place are that it has a good location, it's a big restaurant, and it has decent parking. But if you want REAL, good Cuban food, head over to West Tampa and give West Tampa Sandwich Shop a try. Unless you are in the mood for hospital food. If that's the case, Pipo's is the place to go.

Authentic cuban food at an affordable price. Cafeteria-like style with a casual atmosphere. Perfect for a hearty And delicious Hispanic meal that is ready to eat without any wait time.

Great Food !! I love cuban food and this is the best spot I have found in Tampa....BUT the staff is usually very rude and they are slightly overpriced

This is not a destination Cuban restaurant, but it's not bad for take out when you're too tired to cook. We always get the roast pork with the black beans and rice. That's enough for dinner for my husband and me (less than $9, if I remember correctly). If I'm really hungry, I'll get an order of the plantains too. Everything is solid, although not remarkable. I think the staff is really friendly. They always smile, and often the remember my order. Also, they throw in extra Cuban bread and remind me to get my complimentary sweet tea.

My co-worker always brings amazing smelling leftovers from Pipo's Cafe for lunch so I finally had to try this restaurant for myself. After my recent visit I see that I was not missing out on anything special. The restaurant is not much to look at. It's a small, dingy cafeteria-style restaurant. Since I called my order in advance I was able to skip the line. I ordered the Ropa Vieja with seasoned green beans and black bean soup. For $10.65 I had enough food for lunch and dinner. The ropa vieja was very tasty, but my "seasoned green beans" were canned green beans and my black bean soup was dry and over seasoned with bay leaves. My co-worker ordered the Cuban sandwich. It looked much better than my disappointing sides and was under $8 so maybe I will come back and try the Cuban sandwich or the Pork and Yellow Rice. Overall, there are much better (and cheaper!) Cuban restaurants in Tampa so I probably wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again.

Despite the fact that it is right down the road, and its on my way home from work, even when I am too lazy, I still rather order from somewhere else. The only thing I ever get there is a Cafe con Leche. First thing to note is that its a Cafe. Don't show up looking for service, its order and sit down or take-out. They serve breakfast and lunch and close late afternoon. I am not sure if they tone down the spices since they are located in Palma Ceia - AKA Ritzy suburbia/ retirement zone, if they are catering to an American crowd with horrible taste buds, but they really don't season anything they make. They also take advantage and overprice due to the location. Oh yeah... I've never seen a happy worker in this place. If I want some real Cuban, I will go out of this neighborhood and to La Teresita.

In order to be bipartisan, I must say that Pipo's food is not bad... it just wasn't that great. For the price, I did expect a little more flavor per say. There are much better Cuban restaurants in the area, but it wouldn't 'necessarily deter me from making another pit stop here. My boyfriend got the classic Cuban, which was standard, nothing special, but tasty none the less. I order the roast pork, with rice and beans & yucca. Meh. Could've used more flavor. The customer service was spot on though. They were friendly and attentive and got us in and out in a very timely manner. Update: while I may not venture here for lunch, I will come here any day of the week for their bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich on pressed cuban bread. Amazing and enormous! Enough to feed two girls easily, but for the South Tampa men that "like to pick things up and put them down (at the gym)", they'll be pleasantly surprised at the size of the breakfast sandwich :)

I love Pipo's! Great food, service and a ton of food for the price. I am a huge fan of Cuban food, and it is some of the best in Tampa. Most people get food to go, but there are plenty of seats to eat in. Nothing fancy, but prices aren't fancy either. Breakfast is great also. The Cuban Sandwiches have more meat on them than any in Tampa. I tell all my friends to give it a try.

I am ranking this solely on breakfast, as I'm not a huge fan of the type of food they serve the rest of the day, but I must say the breakfast sandwiches are AMAZEBALLS! The breakfast cuban is on crispy cuban bread, scrambled eggs, choice of cheese, choice of meat (I am partial to the american cheese and bacon)-- it comes out pressed, hot and oozing with deliciousness. The staff is sweet, they are quick to ring you up, and there are always interesting political-types dining in the morning. My boyfriend tried the cafe con leche last week and could not say enough positive things about that either. I definitely recommend stopping in some morning for a delicious breakfast sammie!

Pipo's is a good little spot to hit up if you are need of some quick Cuban food. I had the media noche (Cuban sandwich on sweet bread) and it was good but didn't knock my socks off. I think their breakfast is truly where they do their best. I've had the cafe con leche and a Cuban breakfast sandwich and they are both quality items. The gauva pastries are also pretty tasty.

It has been a couple of years since my last visit to Pipo's. After today's visit, I won't be going back. I ordered the Collard Green Soup. Completely tasteless! My husband ordered Baked Chicken, Rice & Black Beans. Canned & tasteless black beans. The server on the cafeteria style line was more concerned with listening to the person picking up a catering order than getting our order right, which she didn't get right. We left most of the food uneaten. A poor excuse for "authentic" Cuban food.

I ate at Pipo's during two visits to the Tampa area, and both times I was pleased. The food is authentic and, in my opinion, priced fairly. (I'm surprised by the reviews that say the food was overpriced!) I stuck with traditional dishes and sampled the ropa vieja, picadillo, and roast pork, along with a long list of the available sides, their cafe con leche, and guava pastries. (Yum!) Two thumbs up for the young gentleman behind the counter, too; he was always very friendly and eager to answer any questions I had about the menu items. The only thing I was bothered by, since I'm nitpicky like this, is that the trays were most likely only wiped down before use so they were a bit sticky; I would recommend thoroughly washing them after each use instead.

Service was outstanding! Food was excellent and the servings were huge. You definitely get your money's worth. If I get back to the Tampa area, I would go back and I recommend this to anyone interested in trying some good Cuban food.

Food is delicious! I've seen some other reviews say the food is pricy. Yes, it might be a little more than average, but the amount of food you get is incredible! I can't possibly eat my lunch in one sitting--I usually have to save half for dinner or lunch the next day. Yummmm, Pipo's. I'm thinking of having some right now!

It's not the best cuban food around, but you can always count on it to be good. A little pricey for my taste, it's cuban food so for me there's no reason to pay $8+ for a portion of rice/beans/pork and this is the cheapest dinner on the menu. Recently had the "Tortilla Española" for breakfast and it was very good.

First of all, don't expect any great service. I guess they're not known for this. I was starving when I arrived there and was in such a roast pork mood, I thought this would be the perfect place. Boy was I mistaken. I ordered the Roast Pork Sandwich and was so dissappointed. I took the first bite and can say that it tasted like a tub of salt!! It was so marinated in the Mojo and extremely DRY. I was so hungry though I struggled thru half of my sandwhich. When another customer came back to complain about the pork, I walked up and said that I agreed with her and that it was terrible. I only got half my money back though because I ate pretty much most of the half of my sandwhich. Only after she told her kitchen staff that I had overheard her and decided to complain as well (in Spanish, which I speak very fluently in, although you wouldn't think so). I thought that was lame and almost told her to keep her money, but I took it because I thought why not, I should get what I deserve.
