i still love the food here, but have recently discovered that the chips, taco shells and corn tortillas are NOT gluten-free. that makes me sad, because there is no reason in the world to add gluten to something that should be made only of corn. that's one of the reasons i love chipotle so much - they don't add any gluten to anything. so the only gluten-free options here are the rice bowls and the salads without the shell. this new development knocks it down a star.

It's a chain. It's good for what it is.

If you come here on a Monday, you will get a ridiculous amount of food for less than $7. Their burrito Monday deal gives you a burrito, chips and a drink for $6.49 + tax. If you go the burrito bowl route, you get guacamole included with the bowl, which is the only advantage over Chipotle, where guacamole is not included. Otherwise, I think Chipotle is superior to Moe's in every way. The meat tastes better, the salsas taste better, and I just get a better vibe at Chipotle. I left Moe's feeling like I had just sucked on a salt lick. The only advantage to the place is that it is close to my work and is not busy on non-Mondays.

Like a spurned lover, I must admit the trangressions of another burrito store threw me back into the arms of Moe's. And it wasn't necessarily a bad thing. While quality and taste can be argued at various chain burrito stores, one thing that I always appreciate is the cheery "Welcome to Moe's!" whenever you enter the store. Speaking of the store, this location, while hanging off the end of a strip mall is clean and updated. The traffic can be a bit of a challenge off Dale Mabry during peak times but a signal at the entrance to the strip mall alleviates that. While the faces behind the counter change often, the folks at this location have always been friendly and helpful. As a rule of thumb, I always try to patronize local mom and pops versus chain stores, with a few exceptions. One thing you always get with Moe's is your Joey will always taste and look like your Joey, every single time. The queso will always look and taste like your queso. I want to thank that other burrito store for reminding me about Moe's. Glad I came back.

As others here on Yelp indicated, Mondays offer a great value with burrito, chips and a drink for $6.49. There are plenty of options on the menu (many named for Pop Culture references that I truly appreciate) and even more ways to customize whatever you order. All of the ingredients looked fresh and the ones in my burrito bowl certainly tasted that way as well. Moe's takes the same approach to chips that Five Guys does with fries, by just dumping a ton of them in a separate bag. Just wish my queso was better. It was a lighter cheese in color and texture than I prefer, had very little spice to it and I will not order it again. Funny, a friend of mine who does Moe's in Orlando at least once a week for lunch has always wondered why they don't have two drink machines. His point being that during busy hours, there's always a logjam to fill your cup. Sure enough, I was not at the machine for five seconds and someone was already behind me waiting for her turn. These new Coca-Cola beverage machines are nice, but unless you have two of them (like Wawa does down the street) there is always going to be a wait. Overall, I liked it. Didn't love it, but I came on the right day for sure and thought quite highly of all the employees. Now that I've been to Moe's, I can compare virtually all the similar places in the area which offer the same food and experience. I'd put Moe's ahead of Chipotle, but behind Lime (Their WTF Happy Hour and salsa bar get the edge) while none of these places can touch what California Tacos To-Go has to offer on South Dale Mabry. And the queso at Qdoba beats the field unless we're going to include Chili's in that argument.

The staff is friendly even though one of them didn't know what a burrito was. First day on the job, maybe. I've been here a few times and have found the food inconsistent. The food is almost always cool to room temperature when you get it. The ingredients aren't very fresh. The guacamole is terrible and you can tell they don't make it fresh every day. At least the queso saves the day....

    (2)
  • Cody C.

Food was good in quality and portion size, but poorly seasoned, salsa did not appear fresh, and virtually flavorless. Probably could have made better Mexican myself. Restaurant was dirty, staff was not even remotely helpful (this was our first visit), and soda machine was out of pretty much everything. Not naming any names, but competitors in the area are MUCH better.

Love Monday's! Ive only been twice. So when i aksed about an item on the menue and the gentlemen taking my order wasnt the nicest....i think the staff could have been friendlier however its cheap and fast.

I don't understand why people go to Moe's- I've been to two different locations and the food is just disappointing-very bland!! The pico at this particular location looked like it was a few days old, luckily the salsa bar made up for it. Queso was good, but I just think there are better options...I wont be back =(

    (2)
  • Rachel N.

Really wanted to like this place, but it was disappointing. I had the tacos with ground beef and various toppings. They had no flavor. At. All. The queso had no flavor either. I got chips with my meal but they were mostly broken bottom of the bag chips. Salsas didn't taste good either.

I was starving and stopped off at moe's for some lunch. First time visitor to this chain. I had a chicken burrito bowl with black beans peppers cooked onions pico de gallo lettuce and cheese. Tasty. Liked the idea they included salsa and chips with any order. What's really cool is their coke freestyle machine. It makes 106 flavors. Nice concept. The place is casual and fast. The ingredients tasted fresh and the price was reasonable.

I'm a Chipotle loyalist, but I do occasionally pay Moe's a visit for one reason only... I LOVE their green salsa and queso. To me, it's their one advantage over Chipotle. I also love that in addition to the traditional toppings, they have a great selection of toppings you can add to your burrito for free, including cilantro (the world's most polarizing herb), olives, chopped raw onions, sauteed mushrooms & onions, and a yummy chipotle ranch. Choose the steak over the chicken -- it has more flavor and is less dry. This location is always full of friendly staff, who, of course, greet you with the customary "Welcome to Moe's!"

    (3)
  • Dave S.

I love that Moe's is just down the street from my work. It's perfect for a quick, simple and tasty lunch. I like to think of it as the Mexican version of Subway. Everything is fresh and you pick exactly what you want on your order. I've never had a bad meal. They also have the Bazillion Flavors Coke machine that even has Powerade Zero as a choice! Love it. They also sell bottled beer! Monday is burrito day where you can get a burrito meal (includes drinks and chips) for $5.99. On any other day expect to spend $10 for a meal! Service is always friendly. The only complaint is that the music is a little loud, but I usually take my order to go.

    (5)
  • Mike S.

For a chain, this was better than I expected. The menu options are fancifully named but actually limited variations of beans, rice, meat, tortillas & sauces. It it nice to have the option of selecting cheese/veggies/other toppings and the 4 salsas you can get for your chips are fine......letting you add hot sauce if preferred. The bag of chips that come with each meal are fresh, light & tasty. We got the chicken & pork rice bowls and were well pleased with the flavor and quantity. The prices are a bit high, but this is a fast-food chain, not a local Mexican/Latin restaurant where you can get more, tastier and lower price...but with a wait. So if you want a good quick meal and the illusion of welcome from the staff all chanting "Welcome to Moes" in chorus, drop in at this plaza anchored by Sweetbay.

Welcome to Moe's Welcome to some OK food Welcome to perhaps not the best value in the Buritto Bowl throw down I still visit Moe's, I perhaps visit their major competition more. Those are just my thoughts. This location was clean and the staff seemed happy so it made for a pleasant late lunch.

  • Rob W.

We stopped here after the Bucs game for a bite before heading home. I hadn't eaten at a Moe's in quite some time, maybe 5 years. I think it has gotten better. I had the chicken rice bowl and it was quite good. The chicken had been freshly grilled and the rice was very tasty. They top it with your choice of ingredients. The highlight was the salsa bar, which had about 6 different choices. I tried several and they added some major flavor to my meal.

    (3)
  • Josh H.

It's a better Chipotle. I like that they have more options than Chipotle and that it is a little bit more reasonable in price. The salsa bar is a very cool touch as well.

I don't understand why Moe's isn't constantly crowded. The food is really good and fresh. Is it real authentic Mexican ? no, but it's really good quick Tex Mex. Try the Tomatillo Salsa in the salsa bar in the back it's great! My girlfriend and I eat here at least once a week for lunch and we have never been disappointed at least not yet. I have been eating at various Moe's around the tampa bay area for a while now and LOVE IT! This one was no exception. The food is awesome, service is great, and price although I think more than the midwest cousins is fair for the amount of food. The quality and taste far surpass the rivals not to mention they give you chips and unlimited drink refills which just doesnt happen at the other guys. Somehow It took me what looks like a year of this place being open to realize it was here. Guess I dont need to travel around for long anymore for Moes right. lol

    (4)
  • Nolan R.

Ok...I admit it. I went back for Moe's Monday. $5.99 for pretty much everything I'd need...chips & salsa included. I asked if I could get a Rice Bowl for the same $5.99 deal - the guy laughed and said "of course you can...who told you you couldn't?". Well, the Moe's on Neptune basically said that wasn't an option and charged me full boat for it on a Monday because "uhhh it's like not a burrito...it's in a bowl". One thing is for sure, I'll never go back to the Neptune one and this Moe's has won me over enough to give them one more star. OHHH OHHH I almost forgot...they finally got a SALSA that's hot. Thank you Moe's. Did I mention they give me 10% off because of my work badge? Nice touch.

I go to Moe's for the Monday special, pretty much every Monday. You get a burrito or bowl, chips and queso and a drink for just $5.99. During the lunch hour the place gets very packed and even though the line goes by pretty fast, I would say 10 minutes at the most. The reason why I love Moe's so much is the quality of the ingredinets, the tastyness and the cheap prices.

    (4)
  • Thomas L.

The service was atrocious. The employees wrote on my burritos with sharpies, and touched my food without gloves. The food was thrown about in a very unprofessional manner, and the manager seemed incapable of promoting efficiency in the burrito assembly line. The employees were talking and joking amongst themselves at the expense of the customers at a busy time. I love Moe's, and have been to dozens of locations throughout the southeast. The Moe's I normally go to is wonderful. But today it was closed for a power outage.. This location is by far the worst I have ever been to.

    (1)
  • Cheryl J.

They never forget to say, "Welcome to Moooooes". I find the menu somewhat confusing. Everything I've had is good. Queso is so-so; guacamole is so-so. Service is fast though, even at weekday lunch time.

  • Sally M.

Moe's is a lot like Chipotle -- you essentially pick a basic (burrito, taco, quesadilla, salad) & pick your fillings / toppings as you go down the line, then pay, grab some salsas & be seated & enjoy. All of the menu items at Moe's have strange names -- burritos include the "Homewrecker" & "Joey Bag of Donuts"; standing in line you hear people ask for a "J.C.", or "Joey Cocostan" quesedilla (meat, beans & cheese). On the tables they have those little triangular ad card things with a list of the "Top 10 Reasons You Know You Spend Too Much Time at Moe's", or something to that effect. One of them is "All your favorite foods are named after inside jokes." Oh, is that what they were supposed to be? I thought they were just idiotic phrases that someone thought would be catchy. I also think it a little ... pointless? that they have these special names for items that are *exactly* the same but for the fact that one lacks an ingredient & one has it. Better to have it Chipotle-style, in my opinion, & just go down the line & tell them what you want. Guacamole's extra? Fine, add it anyway. It's easier than calling out a different menu name. Maybe I feel like guac today & I don't tomorrow. That means I have to look at the menu again? Stupid. Chips & salsa do come with every meal, free (the salsas are at the salsa bar; you've got 5 selections & they're all fine but not exciting), & the portion sizes of the entrees are decent for what they charge. Overall Moe's is basically a step up from Taco Bell as far as Mexican fast food, with perhaps a little bit less variety. It generally leaves you wanting something -- flavor? originality? -- but otherwise satisfies.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate.
