After reading other Yelpers overwhelmingly positive reviews, I knew I had to try this place. This place looked like it had promise, with lots of fresh sandwich options, soups, salads, and fruit, then add an array of freshly baked goods... sounded awesome! So I ordered the California Club, which sounded great: fresh baked croissant, turkey, bacon, guacamole, sprouts, and a few other veggies were listed. What wasn't listed however, was mayonnaise. YUCK! Why would you ever put mayo on something with guacamole in it? And the amount of mayo... It was as if they put more mayo than guac :( did I mention I hate mayo... So gross. Totally killed the sandwich, which earns the sadface because I know that sandwich would've been good without the heaping pile of mayo. If I'd of known they were gonna add it, I'd have said NO MAYO, but it was never mentioned. So I took my to-go order and by the time I found out, I was stuck with it. Booooo So I saw potential, but was given a bad first impression... Come on... Mayo with guac, I thought sandwich shops were supposed to know how to make sandwiches :(

This Jason's Deli is scary...seriously. There is some lady who checks you out who mumbles and talks to herself. You know who you are... Then if you ask her for a to go cup, she angrily slams it on the counter. This one also doesn't bring food out to your table like the other Jason's Deli's do. You have to go back up "in a few minutes" or whenever they feel like finishing your food. The only condolence is the food is seriously good. And you get free ice cream. But that's at every Jason's Deli.

Used to come here while attending USF down the street. Excellent food and excellent service which is become expected from this franchise. Should return if ever in the area.

This is a great, great vast place and earns its 4-star overall ranking. I gave it 3 stars due to the lack of service and explanations for a newcomer like me. They shout hello to you as you enter (tacky in my book but a boss somewhere must think it's personalized). Their menu is extensive and complicated and difficult to orient quickly so one feels pressure to respond quickly. One lady takes your order, the next lady has you pay, they don't exactly tell you where to get your drink or whether you hang while the order is being made. When I got to the end of the inefficient long order "alley", I discovered a fabulous salad bar--one of the best I've seen. Had I found it earlier, I would have ordered it. Someone should point it out to the newbies. It was droolingly stocked and fresh. My "Sargeant Pepper" hot roast beef, cheese, yellow peppers, onions with au jus on the side was a fancy "French Dip" ($8) served with standard unimpressive chips. It was fine and filling. Later in the menu I saw I could've gotten HALF a sandwich and soup and would've been happier with that. They have at least 7 soups available with names like "Irish Potato", "Spicy Shrimp", "Vegetarian Vegetable". Soups are 99 cents with an entree. They have paninis, wraps, baked taters and salads as well as the sandwiches with cute names. Sandwiches are $7 to $9, drinks are $2. You can get made-to-order sandwiches too. There is a fun kids menu. They give a 10% discount to the USF students and staff (nice touch). They seem to do a big take out business. Now that I have a more clear understanding of the place, I will go again and probably up my rating based on food alone. It's absolutely worth your trying it and offering your own opinion.

I don't know why I continue to go here. I think that it's just an easy salad bar to pay and make for myself. Their soup is gross and I'm not a fan of their sandwiches. The crowd is usually annoying and the staff isn't really overly friendly.

  • Will C.

This is a seriously fantastic establishment. The staff are friendly, fun, and very eager to please; the food is twice the size for half the cost, and tastes delicious; and the entire restaurant is clean from table top to bottom. If you enjoy huge sandwiches, endless salad bars, free ice cream and muffins, a fantastic variety of soups and chillies, and a nice mellow environment to eat it all in, immediately try this place.

Yum!!!!! I've always heard great things about Jason's Deli, and finally made it up to try. Don't let the location fool you, this place is far superior to any Panera I've ever visited. I had the potato soup, and the California Club (based upon the recommendations on Yelp). Both were superb, and cost around $12 including a drink. I got take-out, but next time I'll try eating there. I wish we had one of these closer to South Tampa!!!

Great sandwich, soup and potato place. I love the portobello wrapini and their muffalettas are amazing! We eat here quite often as my husband works at USF and it is so close to the university.

Not my best Jason's Deli trip, I think the one in Ft. Myers has a slightly better layout & service. Luckily, the food never disappoints. The gumbo, tuna melt & muffulettas are all noteworthy. I really wish they had locations closer to the Miami area as I am definitely a fan.

  • J V.

I love it!..their soups and sandwiches are delicious ..I especially love their California club..it's the best I've had so far ..its a California club like no other..instead of just regular bread ..it's packed between a crispy croissant..with alfalfa sprouts..and instead of just plain avocados ..you get a nice layer of guacamole...and of course you get your typical layers of turkey ..bacon...tomatoes and mayo..that with a side of fruits with that amazing fruit dip makes my day..

  • Courtney D.

The sandwiches are sooo good. This place is a big hit with USF students, especially the med students. Most items are healthy and organic. My favorite thing there is the chicken salad on wheat. It's delicious, I've never had it made the way they make it but I'm hooked. Unfortunately it's a bit pricey. I build your own sandwich (which comes with a bag of their own brand of chips and a pickle) is going to run you around $7 and up.

  • V K.

On a recommendation from a USF student, many students go there to eat, very healthy, nice salad bar, free soft serve ice cream, sandwiches are of moderate size, not huge as i was expected from reading the prior review. its a nice large clean deli, in the same strip mall as tijuana flats, the food quality is superb, everything is very fresh and the salad bar selection is excellent and seasonal

Fast, friendly service and great food. And free ice-cream. The last time in I enjoyed a hot pastrami sandwich on pressed cuban bread with spicy mustard and swiss cheese. Jason's Deli knocked it out of the park! The pastrami here is lean and delicious, and the bread is good too. I was last in during peak lunch hour mid-week, and I had my food delivered to my table in about 5 minutes, nice and fast - key to lunch spots during the work week. I'll be back again when I have to work near USF.

Jason's Deli was a lunch staple for me while I was attending USF. You can only stand eating at the cafeterias and on-campus restaurants so many times before you get sick at the thought of it. Fortunately, Jason's Deli is a very short drive across the street from campus. The food has been fresh and flavorful every time I've been. The Southwest Chicken Chili is by far my favorite menu item. Usually I get the manager's half-sandwich special, so I order a cup of that with a half turkey and cheese sandwich. It's the perfect amount for a filling and delicious lunch. You can either choose a soup, salad, or fruit bowl. They offer a ton of other options, but I always stick with that ol' faithful. I think it's great that they offer so many healthy choices and display the nutritional information on their menu. Another great perk is that USF students get 10% off with a student ID. You can also get a birthday freebie if you sign up for their emails. If the discounts don't entice you to try Jason's Deli, then the free ice cream should seal the deal. If you're looking for a place that's going to blow your mind, this isn't it. But it is consistently good food and I believe that makes it worth a try.

I normally pick this place for salad bar alone. I went today because they have options for wife who does not have the same urge to go to a salad place 20 times a month... I was excited to come and have the salad today.. I had several questions about salad combinations for both me and my daughter. The cashier was clueless and had to ask everyone else my questions. They said once "I'm not sure.." I replied can you find out for me please? So they said I'll ask... Questions like can I order an unlimited salad with a sandwich? Or can my 4yo combine a kids meal and a salad? Both easy questions. But no clue... I went to table to wait for wife and then went to get my salad bowls with daughter across restaurant. Guy said I needed the ticket... I said I have my number - he was like I needed the ticket for the plates. I responded can I just get the plates and come back with the ticket? We were the only customers there it wasn't like he didn't know it was ours... So I went all the way back to get ticket and all the way back to get plate... Made the salads. Helped daughter bring plate back. Went all the way back to get the drinks. And my salad... Wife had a massive potato which she said was a bit dry and lacking sour cream. Went to line to get her some. Same person was clueless how to get me a side. Asked if already got the potato? What was the name of it? Did I have my receipt, ticket, or number. I had none of them. Again being the only one who ordered in last minute I am surprised she forgot the whole conversation when we asked her how the southwest potato was and how she said she never had it.. And how the other person said they did... She asked others if she should ring it in they didn't know. So then what appeared to be manager gave me the side of sour cream that was missing from potato. Wife happy, kid happy, and finally I can have my salad.... Which was great. I enjoyed it immensely and they had special things on menu such as mango quinoa and hummus which sets them apart from other salad places... Now I know I need a clean plate so I went all the way back to counter to get a plate. And guess what? They told me I needed to go and bring me my plate to swap out. So all the way back and forth to get plate. Handed guy my plate and got the new one. Somewhat unsanitary but whatever. I was frustrated as there are obvious signs of distrust in customers with their comment of "we have no one in front to control plates" and this forced action... I got my salad and apologized for my frustration but I had already crossed the restaurant 10 times maybe now. Luckily each time, I brought myself a new cup of drink (which ironically they have no control over me getting water or soda.) I told my wife, who asked if I was having fun, if they only gave you brief instructions when you walk in then it might have been a more enjoyable experience and always put the most knowledgeable person as your front line of interaction. Oh and since we are picking teeth here.. What's with the hand ordering delivering the order and then ringing up same order... That wasted a good 2 minutes and I could only imagine if busy would be super annoying. Food was good. Experience was a bit frustrating. Just a couple things to fix..

Jason's is one of my favorite restaurants in all of Tampa Bay. The one word that comes to mind is Consistency. JD is neither great or bad, it's just very good food and always fresh. Lunch or dinner it's always worth the visit. The salad bar is reason enough to try JD. There's a little bit of everything. Spinach, Olives, Beets, Broccoli, Pasta, all kinds of dressings, I can go on and on. I've tried every soup on the menu. They are all very tasty. The Gumbo is probably my Go-to soup. Give me a Soup & Salad from JD and I'm a happy man.

I was hoping that this place would WOW me but it just didn't. I ordered the nutty mixed salad as well as the caprese panini. I feel as if I could have made the same exact panini and salad at home and even better. Yes, they were good but they weren't amazing. I feel like my order tasted just regular, if that makes sense. Would I order from here again, most likely. I only recommend this place to those who are in the mood for fresher than your average sandwiches.

  • Geocel C.

This place has been my "go-to" during my time at USF. It's close to campus and has healthy options. My absolute favorite when dining-in is the salad bar.. You get a plate and are allowed to load it up yourself. So many options! When you are done, you can exchange your "dirty" plate for a new one and head back to the salad bar. Also, free ice cream. The only downside is that this place fills up quick around lunch time (which is evidence of how good they are) so show up before the rush or after to avoid the wait.

  • Justin D.

Always come here hungry and leave full and satisfied! Great, affordable prices for a lot of food. Lots of salad bar options, pastas, soups, loaded baked potatoes, dessert items, and super sized sandwiches. Also free ice- cream with your meal! I've also tried almost every soup besides the chills and they're all delicious. It's fast casual so no waiter service. You order your food and they bring it out to you in less than 5 minutes, depending on what you get or how busy it is. Great customer service as well! I recommend the Cali club, beefeater, and the lite plain jane (add chicken!).

We went due to a person who reviewed Gandolfo's New York Deli who said Jason's was cheaper and better so we went in and split a Rubin which had an same amount of pastrami and was about a buck or two cheaper however they failed to get the flavor balance right

Salad bar is very good, with potato salad that took me to NYC. The mediocre pastrami sandwich quickly brought me back to Florida.

  • Brooke K.

I love the concept of this place. It's much bigger than I expected, almost more like a cafeteria instead of a deli. My favorite is that you can order from the menu and add a side salad that you make from the salad bar. It's a little pricier that way but worth it to be able to make your own salad. The food was okay, definitely not as good as I was expecting. Our favorite part was the salad. I'd be willing to go back to try something else, maybe we just ordered the wrong thing (and the food wasn't horrible, I just expected it to be better). In my opinion this place is definitely worth a visit.

  • Cassie P.

Jason's Deli has my 5-star review for being one of the only sandwich places to offer Gluten Free bread! I get to-go from here a lot, and the service is always quick and friendly- no matter the time of day. My sandwich order is also a little high maintenance (GF bread, add cheese, no sprouts) and they never mess it up. I love getting fruit on the side- as they give you a delish yogurt dipping sauce for it. The salad bar is also top-notch, though I don't frequently get it. And bonus... make sure you help yourself to the free soft-serve ice cream machine before you go! Chocolate, vanilla, or swirl!

  • Jennifer C.

I finally made to this place because the one on dale Mabry (that is now closed) had weird hours. The atmosphere is huge and a little intimidating when you first walk it. They have a salad bar AUCE, and lots of soup & sandwich varieties. I had a half Ruben with cream of broccoli & ordered a regular Jason's something with pecan braised pork. I would definitely rate this place with two $ because I walked away spending $19 on these two items. Granted they both came with a tiny bag of chips and baby pickle, plus one drink, but still a little pricey as the sandwiches weren't very big. You can definitely feel this is a chain, but the sandwhiches were actually pretty good. The few drawbacks do not out way their friendly and fast service with quality meals. You should give this place a try.

  • Sina I.

I can call this place a classic resturant, not that its stylish but its just a place which has everything in order as you expect from a dining place. There is nothing special about food but the overall quality is good. You have bunch of choice if you are a fan of salads and veggie foods since there is a big buffei for it. I've been there 3 times. Their chicken soup is great in case that you have cold! And you can get as much as you want ice cream with no charge when you order a meal. By the way it seems to be a nice place for families, all three times which i've been there i saw lots of families there.

  • Melanie W.

Love the salad bar! It's always fresh. They seem to have an employee checking on it continually. I can honestly say that every time I've been there, a staff person has been restocking or cleaning. Service always comes with a smile and the restaurant appears to be well-managed. Only issue is making sure to go when the line isn't out the door.

Thursday Apili 3, 2015 I had an ap James A Haley VA pontment at The James A Haley VA center when that appointment was done while waiting on another appointment, we took the time to stop by this establishment on recommendations of others. I was LESS than impressed. It is very confusing when you enter, no sign that says place rder at counter, seat yourself or anything else. The counter service was less than helpful and certainly NOT friendly. The salad bar was okay but I have had better, The soup a coup for $1 with your salad bar purchase was less than good and certainly not home made flavor. The bread on the bar was tastless and DRY No butter to fix dryness. This restaurant is SERVE YOURSELF only. To get a another trip to the bar you have to get back in line to request a plate. Clean up was horribly. I feel that I am generous to give them 3 stars. I will not give them another chance.

  • Joe C.

The inside is larger than I pictured from the road while driving by, but it's a friendly and clean restaurant with a solid menu. If one of the signature sandwiches, wraps, pasta or salads doesn't appeal to you, no worries you can just make your own sandwich and have them do it up however you like. Free ice cream is a nice perk too. It's a little pricy at over $14 for two people with just a sandwich, chips and a pickle. But the meat comes in generous portions and its a good option if you aren't worried as much about the cost.

I am a sucker for anything retro... so naturally Jason's Deli is one of my favorite places to eat lunch with friends or guests or get a quick take out meal for myself. The decor is too cute and they have great food and service to beat. The turkey wrap is my go-to meal and it is fresh, filling and relatively healthy when you get a fruit cup to go along with it (yes, a fruit cup)! They have several lighter and healthy options (like a salad bar) and you can also order online then pick up later. The location on Fowler Ave. is great, for those of us who live in the neighborhood at least. Actually, pretty much every business in University Square is great, maybe due to how close they are to USF (and I'm talking University SQUARE not University Mall, lol)... easy in and out and I can hit up Pet Supermarket right after, score!! The only problem I have with this place is that it's not as cheap as you would think it would be. Easily over $20 for lunch for two people... really? Oh well. Still fun and recommended.

  • Jason C.

I've been here several times for the salad bar. The salad tends to be fresh, and there's a wide range of dressings. They also have a few prepared salads as well as desserts that are included. I especially like the fun crisp breads they offer. My only complaint is that I wish they had some more protein options at the salad bar like grilled tofu or chicken.

  • Ashleigh B.

The menu here is huge! Don't feel bad if you have to take a seat to figure out what you want because it is all delicious and fresh. The sandwiches range from the eyebrow-raising 3/4 lb Yankee, to guilt-free veggie and vegan options. From the top-notch salad bar, to the 10+ daily soup options, and the gigantic baked potatoes, there's something here for everyone. Just don't forget to save room for the free soft-serve at the end!

I mulled over whether I like Jason's or Sweet Tomatoes better and honestly couldn't decide. I know you probably stumbled on this review of Jason's in a hurry to find some lunch but from one hungry luncher to another, my 5 stars speak volumes. The comparison to Sweet Tomatoes (the holy grail of salad buffets) is a blaring recommendation. I've never ordered anything but the salad bar at Jason's but you shouldn't either. The selection is incredible with three kinds of lettuce, dozens of freshly cut veggies, different picnic salads (potato, pasta, cous cous, three bean, etc.), the best hummus I ever did taste, pumpkin crackers (also referred to as just "crack"), 10+ dressings, garlic bread, desserts, fruit, nuts, and......drum roll please... FREE ICE CREAM. Mic drop and walk away, or not because you still need to eat here. I get a little dramatic over unlimited salad but Jason's is legit. They also give a discount to USF students and don't make you feel awkward about it. Most places give you the stink eye when you use a coupon but Jason's staff asked us if we'd like to use any coupons or the student discount.

Best salad bar (good default) and wraps! Salad bar is mostly just that, no meat aside from bacon bits.

The portions here are very generous and worth the price. I always feel satisfied when eat here and always leave full. I would recommend the trying the New York Yankee, the beafeater, or the chicken panini. They also have a great salad bar.

I'm a fan. Everything I've had is fresh and has pretty good flavor, cheap enough, they have a USF discount and good vegetarian options. They also have free ice cream for dessert!

I had not been to this Jason's deli in years and was really excited to go back and get my favorite rap. It is the turkey wrap with guacamole and alfalfa sprouts. I was REALLY disappointed. My wrap was tiny. There was not much in it. Just a squirt of guacamole and no alfalfa at all. I was sad. The salad bar looked really good though. I wish I had tried that instead. The free ice cream at the end was still awesome.

I am not very big on Deli's. Because I am not much of a meat eater, Sandwiches and deli's don't really appeal to me. But Jason's Deli, always gives me the urge to come back. They do deli well in my opinion. Especially for a chain of restaurants the quality of their food in any location has always been exceptional. I have enjoyed every meal here for a quick or timely lunch. The salad bar has all the things you could ask for from sweet to salty condiments to cater to all types of palates. And complimentary frozen yogurt with every purchase? Winner! Lol. I usually get their vegetarian options which are loaded with fresh or grilled veggies seasoned and not overcooked as most usually do. Like I said, this deli keeps me coming back and for a new surprise everytime.

So good! I come here at least once a week, and everytime it's great! Their sandwiches and soup combo is a favorite. Their salads are also pretty good; also, they give a good portion for the price you pay. USF students get a 10% discount Fridays-Mondays which is awesome! Service is good and fast.

I like Jason's deli. A lot. First off, USF students get 10% off Friday-Monday which is a personal favorite. My favorite order is the build your own half sandwich with a cup of French onion soup. Soooo great. So they charge me an extra $.70 for cheese, I'm not bothered. What is kind of confusing though is their cups for soda/water. I can almost never find water cups so I just use a soda cup? Seems like they could be losing money here, but I guess that's just small potatoes. Definitely give it a try.

Perfect place for lunch! A lot of options without being overwhelmed. Fresh salad bar is a huge plus. You can tell it's all made to order and not coming from something mass produced. Quick service and friendly staff makes it even better.

I.. freaking love this place. I am so happy that we just moved closer to one! Salad bar is hands down my favorite to enjoy when i'm dining in and not in a rush. Lots of earthy greens fresh toppings and little muffins too! Soups are delicious, the only one I don't recommend is the red beans and rice. Had once, that was more then enough. I do suggest, as with any dining out experience, if YOU don't like an ingredient,or have an allergy. MENTION IT! Sometimes not all items are listed on the menu. for instance, I hate mayo and pickles. I make sure, even if it's not listed, that I state, No mayo, No pickles. Especially at delis where pickles are a garnish. 2nd example, I work at a restaurant that serves a certain chicken pasta that contains Lobster butter. This is not stated on the menu, which I believe will one day lead to a lawsuit. As I thoughtful server I always ask if they have a seafood allergy. Sometimes people say YES. Well fuck, we could have killed you. ALWAYS ASK/MENTION certain preferences. *Apology for the mid review rant* moving on. Sammiches! Holy Jebus, the New Yorker comes in a half size, for a reason. One of the tallest sandwiches I have seen. One of my go-to is something that is no longer on the menu but they can still make it. A Bagelini- shaved turkey, pico de gallo, guacamole, pepper jack cheese all pressed between a deliciously soft, bagel. Enjoy my friends, this place can satisfy any diet, hunger level. P.S. delivery is only for Catering, and large orders. p.p.s I noticed some reviewers said that the prices where higher compared to Panera Bread. Well, Panera Bread can suck it! I have always felt shorted when I've gone there. Last time I Spent $10 and got a 1/4 of a sandwich and a bland cup of soup from there pick 2 menu. Lame.

Pretty decent. I ordered the California Club with steamed veggies and the partner got the Portobello Wrapini with chips. The sandwich was a little bigger than I expected, but it was delicious! The wrap was good as well. Total price with drinks came out to about $16+ As another Yelper said, the staff is very friendly. There are some that could use a crash course on best public health practices (i.e., cover your mouth when you cough near the salad bar). Other than that, the place it pretty good. It's usually a last choice for us when thinking of places to go though because I don't crave sandwiches that often.

This is one of those places that I have a disproportionate amount of love for, as i was reminded this week when i stopped in for lunch. Why? Well, let me share my top 5 reasons for loving Jason's: 1. Salad bar - I usually love any place with a salad bar, especially when you can make a spinach salad. 2. Freebies - free mini muffins, garlic toast, trail mix, and ice cream is set out for everyone. Who doesn't love free stuff? 3. Healthy options - a whole section of the menu is dedicated to better for you foods, complete with nutrition info 4. Good service - everyone here is always friendly, and the food comes out fast 5. Soups - they have like 8 different kinds of soup everyday, and each of them are delicious! Bottom line - it's a chain, so don't expect anything terribly creative, but if you are going to eat at a chain lunch spot it doesn't get much better than this.

So, decided to finally try this place after procrastinating it for almost two years. Their menu totally sold me to try them out. A build your own sammich option? Sold! We both ordered a croissant club sandwich without honey mustard. Sandwiches were bulky and dense, but lacked any sort of flavor or abilities to reel me back into coming back for more. I will be driving the extra couple of blocks to Jimmy Johns. Thanks.

Ordered lunch from here at work. I was pleasantly surprised. Ordered a salmon sandwich, which was recommended to me and it was very tasty. The sandwich also came with a cute little fruit cup and a mint. I would highly recommend over other sandwich places.

This place gets pretty crowded sometimes but most of the food is really good. The salad bar is great and comes with a wide range of very fresh options. Most of the soups are really good (not a big fan of their gumbo; too much slimy okra) but every other one is quite delicious. The pastrami is reminiscent of the quality you can get up in New England, but the deli turkey is too salty and tastes kind of weird. The black currant tea is to die for and I am also a huge fan of the chocolate mousse and banana pudding. Also free ice cream for all, as well as mini muffins, an assortment of crackers (including graham), and garlic toast (try it with the hummus together they are fantastic).

This place is rather expensive for what it is -- a standard deli. I could make my own sandwich for much less and it would likely be more flavorful. Their soups are pretty decent though -- but again, not worth it for the price.

This place is amazing!! Had it the first time a few days ago for an office luncheon. We had about 11 or 12 people and all of our food was made just the way we asked. Everything was extremely fresh and I will never eat at another subway or firehouse or jimmy johns again.... Jason's deli only!!
