Great service by our waiter/bartender Scott. Great beer selection. Huge reasonably priced tasty portions which unfortunately didn't leave any room for what is suppose to be great desserts of their banana foster cheesecake or tiramisu--maybe next time!

Best Italian in Tampa - support local establishments!! Beer menu is ridiculous - lots of great IPAs.

My wife and I decided to try Gino's We had been told the food was very good. We agree our pizza was very good and their hous garlic bread was awesome a must try . But the service was average at best.

Has the bbq chicken pizza this time. So much and so good. Split it with my daughter and both had plenty to eat.

When a friend invited me to Gino's for his birthday, I wasn't really sure what to expect as I live pretty close to this establishment and have never heard anything about it. When I popped on Yelp, I became very excited based on the high star rating and all of the glowing reviews. It lived up to the hype! First of all, $2.50 craft beers on Wednesdays. Now, I went for the Chianti because the idea of craft beers and Italian seemed a bit overwhelming, but they do have quite the selection. The table started with some Mussels, Calamari, and Eggplant. My favorite was the Eggplant and I really think I'll order the Eggplant Parm for my meal next time I come here. It was so cheesy and delicious. For our main course, we had the Margarita Pizza. How good can a Margarita Pizza be, you may ask. This was the best one I've ever had. Again, so freaking cheesy. Our bill including 3 craft beers, 2 glasses of wine, a pizza, and an order of mussels was $35. The atmosphere here is super laid back. The service was really good and our drinks were never empty. This joint got pretty crowded by the time we left, so I would recommend getting there early if you are coming on a Wednesday. I can't wait to come back.

I get a little teary eyed thinking about Gino's and how it has stood its ground against the Olive Garden's and Macaroni Grills that have invaded Carrollwood. This little restaurant, tucked to the side of Armenia amongst other "blink and they are gone" ethnic restaurants has stood the test of the common restaurant patron. It is always lively and I've never had a bad experience. Their happy hour warms my little craft beer loving heart as all of their bottled American craft beers are $2.50. Yes. That is right, and that isn't a list that is two inches long. It's two pages. I usually get a salad or their minestrone soup which is delicious but my family usually gets the pizza and bruschetta and I have to admit, it looks pretty good. The inside is very "old school- Cheer's" type of bar, I think they have actual tables on the other side of the restaurant but I come for the beer. The staff is so sweet and again, I've never had a bad experience.

Trekked up to North Tampa for my brother's birthday dinner. Can't believe we've lived in Tampa for decades and have never been here! Older building with wood paneled walls and customary Italian-esque decor. One side is a large bar with high-top tables and the other side is cozy tables (no booths). We arrived around 545 on a Saturday night and were able to be seated quickly. The place got pretty busy as we dined. The service was very good. You could tell the servers know most of the people who come in. It's mainly a 40+ crowd, there were no kids to be seen on our visit. Garlic bread is to die for. Reminds me of Mama's on Dale Mabry (which is now Burger Monger). I ordered chicken parm and it came with a salad choice and a side of pasta marinara. I chose the Caesar salad. It was fine. Nothing spectacular. The chicken parm was huge. At least two meals worth. It was good. My brother preferred mine to his chicken gnocchi so I let him have the rest when I had my fill. My mom ordered to baked ziti with sausage and she said it was good- more homemade tasting than other Italian places. The dessert menu looked good but we declined and went home to have bday cake. All in all, a nice little place for homemade Italian food. I will go back. (side note: I will not go back to that ladies room. Shudder.)

well Gino's is a unique place with lots of craft beers. The food is good or its real bad not sure if they have more than one cook? the burgers ok but they can only cook it raw or well done. I do go once a month so I guess it's not to bad or and it's 5 min away. :-)

Best Italian I've had in Tampa Bay. Fried Ravioli is my favorite appetizer, and for dinner I always get Italian Sampler #2 (Lasagna, Chicken Parm, Linguini Alfredo) - AMAZING!!! I also love how cold it is inside, so if you get chilly easily, bring a sweatshirt or jacket.

    (5)
  • T2 B.

Their Italian Sampler dinner is a perfect plate of food. The linguine Alfredo is smooth and garlicky, the chicken parm is tender and well-breaded, and the lasagna is hearty and tasty. The meal comes with fresh bread covered in garlic butter and either soup (a great minestrone) or salad (nicer than it has to be and a wonderful house vinaigrette). My only quibble is that the portions are absolutely gargantuan but there's a $2.50 split plate charge (this doesn't get you an extra soup/salad or anything, it's just a fee). Unless you're going straight home afterwards to put away the leftovers, you're either going to overeat big time or waste a lot of delicious food. I wish they'd either get rid of the fee or offer a half-portion option.

We came as a family after a day at Busch Gardens. I had the Eggplant Parm..... It was soooooooo good!! My husband had Steak Marsala with mashed potatoes..... He says it was very flavorful ..... The kids had burgers ( these are NOT fast food burgers) and they loved them! We all left with very full bellies! I recommend this to any couple or family with OLDER kids. The food is DELICIOUS!!!!

I can honestly say that I have never had better customer service than I did at Gino's. Very knowledgable staff helped me decided between fantastic entrees. My boyfriend and I split a delicious bottle of Riesling, and a caprese salad. After our incredible meal, served with bread that was to die for - we made our way over to the bar. To our surprise, the bartender was extremely helpful. There were tons of craft beers. We were both very pleased. We looked at their daily special board and we were blown away!! Craft beer specials, Sangria specials, just to name a few. Overall a more than five star experience. Will definitely return.

My husband and I hate to eat at chain restaurants when traveling. We like to get the recommendations of locals. Thankfully we were told about this mom and pop establishment!! We split an Italian sampler, and it was amazing!! Lasagna, chicken parm, and linguini Alfredo...oh my! We ended our meal with the bananas foster over cheesecake, which is a MUST order if you like bananas foster. The staff was just as good as the food. An amazing meal and service at a local restaurant. In our minds, you can't beat that when traveling.

Great little neighborhood joint. Tons of food for the money. It kills me that people go to Olive Garden & Carraba's when there are restaurants like this! Had the chicken and eggplant dish - came with a salad and bread - for $17! It was enough food for 3 meals! My friend had the gnocchi in gouda cream sauce - also delicious. We split brownie pie and tiramisu for dessert. Yum! They also have a whole page of bottles of wine for $19!

There's a simple explanation for why this place is ah-maze-zing! Quality. ***The BEST bruschetta in Tampa Bay*** Go ahead, try me. Oh, that and they drench everything in butter and garlic - which is bad for you. You know what else is bad for you? Sucking at life. So if you suck at life, come and eat here - the two will cancel each other out. Don't think about. There is a small price to pay for your experience - an over stuffed stomach. Totally worth it. - Buttery garlic bread: It comes with your table. It also includes a free fight over who gets to eat more of it. So soft, and buttery, and garlicky. - The Specials: Just like everything there, the specials are made from scratch and simply divine. Very unique, limited-time creations. - Baked Ziti: sure to fill you up for the next couple meals. Loaded with cheese and pasta. - Gnocchi and peas: a classic done very well. A perfect cream sauce and crisp peas. Happy hour is also golden here. The worst part is deciding whether or not fill up on cheap drinks or amazing food or maybe booth - now that's just crazy. ***A little shoutout to waiter Tom. He's consistently there, consistently happy, and consistently helpful - what a guy!***

I'm being a bit unfair to Gino's. It's probably 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding down. Part of the problem was my own doing, but there were enough other issues to warrant the down-rounding. My girlfriend and I came here on a Friday night. It's a cute Italian restaurant in the Carrollwood area. It was quaint on the inside - a comfortable environment for a meal - and the service was excellent. We enjoyed a glass of wine each - well, she enjoyed a glass of wine. The house pinot grigio I had was not that good. If you're going to have wine, splurge and get a glass or bottle of something with a name. The house stuff, at least the pinot, is essentially as good as what you pay for. So, Gino's gets points for service, but loses points for the house wine The food was okay. I loved their bread service, so additional points there. But the Caesar salad was mediocre at best. It tasted like they went with an Italian Caesar dressing instead of a creamy dressing, which was a first for me in an Italian restaurant, and it didn't make a good impression. As for my entrée - and this is where it becomes my fault - I ordered the Sorrentino, which to me sounded like a chicken and eggplant parm. Both lightly breaded with cheese and pasta. My problem was that my brain didn't register "demi glaze" instead of marinara sauce. The demi glaze was wrong. It didn't go with the food well at all. Moreover, the pasta it came with had an olive oil sauce, which also wasn't what I was looking for. Therefore, I can't kill Gino's over my inability to read the menu. It's an incredibly extensive menu - lot of choices and I could have gone with anything else, but the prospect of a chicken/eggplant parm drove me in that direction without realizing if it was a chix/eggplant parm, maybe it would have said that. So, my stupidity - not their fault. That said, I didn't particularly enjoy it, though that could also have been more because it wasn't what I was expecting (even though, again, the menu was clear on the subject, but my brain wasn't). So, 3.5 stars because I'm an idiot, and rounding down because the wine and salad were subpar. On another matter though, as we finished, a waiter brought us 2 cannolies (sp?). We didn't order them, but our waiter told us an elderly gentleman who was at a table near us liked us so much (we didn't talk to anyone, he just liked us for some reason) bought us dessert. Have to say, I have never had that happen before. You hear of things like that (someone buying the coffee for the person behind them at the Starbucks drive-thru, etc), but it's never happened to me. It was such a nice thing, that we're looking for an opportunity to "pay it forward." I despise that phrase - it's about the dumbest thing ever - but as it's the phrase people are using in these situations, I have no choice. Anyway, that nice man will never see this review, but just in case, thank you sir. You are awesome. By the way, the cannolies are what is driving this to a 3.5 star review. I have never had a cannoli I've liked, until Gino's. So well done there.

If you like cheese, then go here! They pile it high onto many dishes. Some people like that but I'm not a fan of a huge amount of cheese on an Italian dish. It makes me think something else is lacking in flavor if so much cheese is needed. The sauce is decent. The ambiance is great and service friendly. If you are health conscious at all, this isn't the place for you. For that reason, I find it hard to justify going there a lot as there are so few things I can pick off the menu. The salad is over dressed so ask for that on the side. They also make substitutions of pasta with different sauces.

Great Food and Great Service! I have now made this one of my "Got to Have Places to Eat Every Week". I have tried about everything on the menu. The portions are very generous and the quality of the food is second to none. The owner is there most of the time preparing the food himself. It is worth searching out to have a dining experience that will keep you coming back over and over again.

My go-to neighborhood restaurant. If they offer a special, order it as they are usually a cut above their excellent standard fare. Outstanding food and outstanding service. Carey and John always take good care of us. Really appreciate the expanded parking.

My friend loves their Eggplant Parmigiana so she recommended we eat here on a recent visit. I can't stop thinking about it.... One person ordered the Italian Sampler, which consisted of lasagna, chicken parm and linguini alfredo. Another ordered the eggplant parm, one ordered the baked ziti with ground beef and I ordered the lobster ravioli. Before the meals, the server brought our salads and fresh warm bread. I had the house salad and it was really tasty. The bread?! I could have eaten about 5 baskets of this bread. It was hot, fresh and had just the right amount of butter and garlic. I order lobster ravioli from different places. Gino's has the BEST by far. You can actually see and taste the lobster in each ravioli, no skimping here! The tomato cream sauce that topped them was everyone's favorite...they kept scooping it up with pieces of bread! Everyone cleaned their plates.....enough said. Our server was attentive, pleasant and on top of his game. If you are in this area...RUN here!

This has been our favorite family Restaraunt for over 20 years. Best food- eggplant parmigiana and seafood fradiavolo are among our favorites. Oh and the calamari is excellent. Service is top notch. Can't say enough good about Gino's.

"Hey, good to see you guys again! Did you get unpacked?" It had been about a month since we'd first walked into Gino's, shortly after unloading our moving truck, and our server remembered that detail about us -- that we had just moved back to Tampa and were going to be busy unpacking a lot of boxes. Gino's, it seems, knows how to hire and retain professional servers. That's an expense most restaurants aren't willing to take on: not just the wages to attract great staff, but the commitment that they will not be fungible labor, the sort of minimum-tipped-wage employees upon whom a chain restaurant depends, but an investment. It's the best choice in the long run, and Gino's has been around a long time. If the ten-inch loaf drenched in garlic butter isn't enough, they'll bring more. Consider that your salad will soon arrive with a pleasantly fruity, astringent homemade vinaigrette; you'll want to sop up the last of the dressing. But consider also that your baked ziti ($10; includes salad and garlic bread) will be creamier than anything you've tasted in recent memory. Do they use heavy cream in this? You won't care. You won't care. Even if you're not at all sure the bridesmaid dress you were fitted for three weeks ago will fit this weekend, you won't care. Because it is SO. GODDAMN. GOOD. And when you come back in a month, if you swore out loud that you'll be going to the gym five times a week, you will be greeted warmly like an old friend. "Hey, good to see you guys! Looks like you really ARE going to the gym five times a week -- ready for some garlic bread?"

Great local business. The food was delicious! It was very good American-Italian Dining. I had the lasagna and it was huge. Also, the side salad was good. I tried my dates seafood salad and it had great blackened white fish. The wine list was good, but the wine prices were excellent. The bottle of Wild Horse Pinot was only $19, and there was a craft beer selection if I was in the mood for beer. I will go back.

I am amazed that years later Gino's still has amazing food that doesn't taste any different from my last visit years ago. In Tampa it feels like chefs are always switching all the time and flavor comes and goes with it, but not the case here. While we were snacking on Beer Battered Onion Rings at Mr. Dunderbak's on Bruce B. Downs, I started remembered the fantastic taste of onion rings with Gino's incredible burgers and decided I had to have some Gino's. I convinced my friends to head there since I didn't order at Mr. D's. Found Gino's to be very packed, which I am really happy about because they deserve that crowd. I don't think it used to get that packed when I used to live right next door. When we got a seat I immediately flipped my menu to their burgers and found my favorite "Mother Earth" burger. So happy to find it still on the menu. I used to order this burger over the phone and just by hearing my voice they used to know exactly how I wanted it to be made. That's what I call great service. My friend ordered some dessert as well. Man I just can't believe I haven't been to this place in so long. The burgers are so good, way better than most places I have had in a long time. The cheddar cheese has such a fresh taste and the beef just melts in your mouth with it. The onion rings are great as well, juicy and the onion is cooked to perfection (I normally like to dip them in some mayo which I will only do here). My friends were so impressed they wished we had come here first, but fear not because we will be returning soon. Oh and that dessert was so good that my friend had to break his calorie diet for a few bites of it. Thanks you Gino's.

I'm surprised I have not visited Gino's sooner since it seems like it has been at its location for some time! I ordered the baked ziti and although it is hard to mess up ziti, it was one of the best I've ever had. The garlic bread that they bring for you to munch on is also very good! The portions are huge and the prices are very reasonable. I will definitely be back!

My wife & I have been coming here for years. Never had a bad meal no matter what we try. The veal parm. is my favorite, but don't forget about lunch either, because the burgers are awesome!! The price is very reasonable & the portions are large!! They also have a great catering menu that we have used as well & highly recommend.

My wife and I really loved this place. It's a smaller place without a lot of seating, but you get great service, great food with huge portions, and a nice wine menu. Most prices fall in the $15-$25 range, but you will get a lot of food for that price. It's definitely my favorite Italian place in the Carrollwood area, at least of those we have tried so far.

The most amazing place you will find for Italian. Don't let the outside fool you. The food is fresh, reasonably priced and the wine/beer selection is huge. Most Friday and Saturday night there is an awesome special. The owner is usually on site cooking and greeting. Been going for 15 years, highly recommended!

I have to say I am on the fence with this...which means I definitly have to go back. I ordered fried ravioli's as an appetizer which were OK. I didn't particularly like the sauce you dip it with, I hate to to say this, but it tasted like it was from a can. For an entree I ordered their salmon with lobster ravioli. The salmon was AMAZING! They glaze it in teriyaki then put some type of cream sauce over it, so it was salty and creamy which was a perfect combo. The ravilo's wer EH (but I think I just wasn't in the mood for it). I am usually not big on bread, but I probably finished a whole roll myself, it was THAT good! They douse it in garlic butter and romano cheese! I was hesitant to order their tiramisu because the only experiences I've had, the liquor over powered the dessert and it tasted horrible. Well I am glad I did because I am in love! The waitor we had could've been better, he wasnt very attentive and looked confused when I asked him to recommend me a red wine. All in all, you should try it!

Went here last night and had an ok experience. The staff was very nice and attentive. The decor is very bar like, but I knew that coming in. The food had it's highs and lows. I'll list them below. Highs- Gnocchi with shrimp and gorgonzola was excellent Grouper Piccata was perfectly cooked and very fresh, sauce was ok Lows- Fried Ravioli was obviously frozen Shrimp Scampi was just shrimp in a butter bath, gross Eggplant Parm was soggy and the stuffing was tasteless and dry, very bad Overall this place is ok, seemed to have it's high points, but a bit overrated on the other reviews.

I've been in Tampa 7 years and can't believe I missed Gino's until now. I ordered the lasagna with minestrone soup. The Soup was thick and delicious. Possibly the best minestrone I've had so far. The entrees come with a little loaf of garlic bread that is oozing with garlic and butter (and they'll keep giving you more if you want!). The lasagna came out bubbling hot and full of sausage chunks. It was awesome, not your typical "Italian restaurant" stuff (like Carrabas or Maggianos, bleh!). The also have a nice selection of craft beer, even stocking Florida Ave (bleh) and Cigar City (huzzah!) brews. The staff was courteous, knowledgeable, and friendly. My god of thunder bartender Zues was very helpful and pointed out that everyone working that night had been with the restaurant anywhere from 5-23 years. Tuesdays are happy hour all day (draft beer and house wine specials) weds are all craft beers $2.50 nights, and Thurs is Ladies night with happy hour specials all day. They also had the Rays game on! As a Tamponian, this is a place I would take both out of town friends and my visiting mother. Check it out!

I have loved this place for years! I "Jones" for the Eggplant Parm and hope that the Soup Du Jour is Potato when I go there! BTW...don't leave without a Tiramisu To Go..you will be SO stuffed, but you will be ecstatic when you dig into it the next day..it is heavenly. Such an amazing neighborhood jewel!

An acquaintance of my brother recommended that we try this restaurant for some good Italian food and we weren't disappointed! Gino's is a an average looking casual Italian restaurant, but the food is what they get all of they're points on. Being from NY, I grew up on a lot of really good Italian. Ever since I moved to Florida 12 years ago, finding decent and consistently good Italian food has been challenging so I was skeptical about Gino's prior to going. The food did not disappoint! Even my brother, who is a tough food critic, enjoyed everything along with the rest of my family. The portions were big and the food was tasty. Dare I say..... some of the best Italian food that I've had in a very long time! We all left very happy! I'm just happy I live in Orlando or I would probably be eating here more than I should.

I went there a couple months ago for a late lunch. Been there before, and had forgotten it was there. Ordered the eggplant parmigiana sandwich. When they served it, it looked delicious. I grabbed onto the sandwich to cut it in half, and... A COCKROACH CAME CRAWLING OUT OF THE SANDWICH!! OMG!! As I was sitting at the bar, 3 or 4 other people saw it happen... IT WAS DISGUSTING!!! I walked out. Since then, I've told about 50 people. And 3 or 4 have told me about similar instances. Apparently they've had a problem with cock roaches for years. I will NEVER go back.

OK- been in Tampa for 4 years and just discovered this place. Packed on a Thursday night! A good sign of things to come! I had the Sorriento, veal with ribbons of eggplant smothered in red sauce and cheese, with more pasta than ANYONE can eat. Hubby and Mom had the sampler platters. The Eggplant parm - amazing, lasagna- wonderful. I ordered the tiramusa and the portion was huge. We all enjoyed it! Will be back- soon.

If you are looking for a neighborhood bar with character, charm, and great Italian food, you came to the right place! Gino's may look small, but once you walk inside, it is apparent how big it actually is. Rugged wood columns line the bar, which is constructed of wine cases. The wait staff will always make you feel at home. Whether its plugging in your ipod so the bar can sing along to classic rock, or giving you a hug on the way out. Good for families, a romantic date, or just somewhere to chill after work. The bread is most delicious! Excellent tiramisu, a very large portion and it is never soggy. Best appetizer is the gnocchi and shrimp.

Gino's Bar & Restaurant serves up yummy Italian food favorites along with surprisingly good salads and burgers too. The restaurant is small and intimate, nestled in between Carrollwood and Forest Hills on Armenia Ave. Huge family-style portions. The salads are a great surprise. Salads are HUGE and made with fresh locally grown greens and veggies. My favorite is the Harvest Salad - with spring greens, a whole pear, dried cranberries, gorgonzola cheese, candied walnuts and poppyseed dressing. Yummy. It is big enough for two people to share - I can never finish it by myself. Another favorite is their flat bread pizza. My fave is the Margherita Pizza with a big slice of tomato, fresh basil and mozzarella cheese on each and every slice. I don't know what they do to that pizza to make it taste so good. Other family favorites include their Alpine Burger, Meatball Sub, Baked Ziti and Eggplant Parmigiana. Staff is warm and friendly. They have an extensive selection of beer and wine. If you are in Tampa, you need to visit Gino's!

Gino's is the best neighborhood Italian you will find in Tampa. I have been coming here for years. It is right near our home and we go about once a week. Here are my recommendations: The best white pizza anywhere (and I have eaten it up and down the east coast). Ask them to slice fresh tomatoes on it. The price?$10.00!! And you will have lunch for tomorrow. Mediteranian chicken wrap $6.00, really?? And HUGE. Again you will have lunch for tomorrow. Eggplant parmeasean, OMG! Yummy, lunch for three days. Salads that will overflow and dressing to die for. Craft beers and a gazillion wine choices for very reasonable prices. The house cab is like $15 a bottle and is delicious. Fried calamari, spaghetti, meat lovers pizza, meatloaf, gnocci, it's all good. You won't regret it. Great atmosphere and the same waiters forever. Very welcoming. I love Gino's and I hope you will too.

This place is amazing, the portions they give you are HUGE!!! This is a quaint spot for lunch or dinner. Was just there on Valentines Day and my husband and I shared the Sampler Platter of lasagna, chicken parmesan, and linguini alfredo along with house salads...it was delicious and we only paid for one entree. They have a wine shop right next door, so get a bottle before going to dinner:)

A new family favorite when we are in Tampa. Very good Italian food - huge portions - reasonable prices - friendly waitstaff. We went with a group of 6 and everyone ordered something different and every dish was fantastic. They do a great cream sauce and their eggplant parmigiana is so good that even those in our group who don't generally like eggplant went back for a second taste. FYI - their bar just serves beer & wine - no liquor.

Started out with the Italian Sampler for appetizer bc I was STARVING & it was all very good! Great choice to try variety of delicious appetizers! It includes Mussels fra Diavolo and Fried Mozzarella Sticks, Ravioli, and Calamari..After all that and a salad, I felt like I've already had my dinner! This time I had the Italian Sampler #1, which includes my beloved Eggplant Parmigiana, plus Ravioli and Cappellini al Pesto to try. I really didn't care for the ravioli, and the Cappellini al Pesto was too bland for me - my bf and I both felt like it was missing something and we determined that it could def use some garlic. . or lots of it and maybe bit of salt. I had a bunch of sauce leftover from my Mussels fra Diavolo appetizer and just dumped all that into the Cappellini and it definitely improved the flavor and made it worth eating! I was so relieved to have my 'ol faithful Eggplant Parmigiana to fall back on, just as good as I last remembered! And the garlic bread here was fresh as always and SO GOOD - the best!

Yelp was not wrong this time! The food was freaking awesome! I believe that Jesus Christ helps the cooks in the back. There was a moment when I was eating either the fried ravioli or my meatloaf where my soul was one with the food and I almost shed a tear. Yes it was THAT good! Our waiter was nice at first, but then he just started getting worse and worse. He took forever to ask us if we needed to-go containers. We didn't know why because we literally sat there with food on our table for over 15-20mins. He took forever and a day to give us our check, then we learned that the check was sitting on the host's stand. Where do they do that at? Not at any restaurant that I know of. As a waiter, even if you have a bad experience at another table you have to shake that off for your next table. Not sure, but we noticed that there was another table next to us who were just like us "lesbians." And they too had to wait forever. While the table on the other side of us were a man and a woman and they received their checks at their table and got to-go containers at the speed of light. "All" people should be treated with respect regardless of your personal opinion. Your tip relies on it. His actions granted him a lackluster tip. Think before you react. Regardless of this waiter's own personal problems, we still will return because of the quality of our meal and because of the hospitality of the host. Will we want the same waiter? Hell no.

This is our neighborhood go to place for good, reasonably priced Italian food. Tonight we split a bottle of wine between 3 of us and it was $19 for The bottle! I had the sampler platter and there was a ton of food! I have leftovers for lunch tomorrow . mine had Eggplant parmigiana, cheese ravioli and pesto pasta. And I added a side of meatballs (there were 3) because I LOVE meatballs! Everything was so good! My hubby had the veal parmigiana and ate all but one small piece and our friend Dave had the chicken Marsala and ate all of it. All our meals came with a salad. The ambience was great as we were put at a table off to the side in front of a wine rack. It was a very enjoyable meal. Even our waiter was pleasant and attentive. I highly recommend Gino's for a wonderful Italian meal that isn't crazy expensive!!

Loved loved loved this place, and I hate Italian. Lol this place has converted me into a believer! The menu has so many options, there is no way you WONT find something to eat here. Service was great, our server was attentive. I got the spinach fettuccine Alfredo with grilled chicken . Delicious. Unlike most Italian places this place doesn't have white table cloths and and fancy uniforms for the employees. Which I LOVED, they let the food speak for itself. The portions were huge . Well worth the price. I will be back

My very first experience with this authentic and genuine Neighborhood Restaurant. It make me feel I was back in NY. Good is delicious. I started with the Italian Sampler. Is a good sice to share with 4 people. The Diablo Sauce was terrific! The Picata Veal dish with Alfredo Sauce is a must try. The service provided by John was very good. He mentioned this Gino's have been around for almost 40 Years and he's been part of this family for 20 years. I'll come back pretty soon. Thank u!

It's Good!!!! Really Good!!!! We ate here for lunch and had the eggplant parmesan and chicken parmesan. Both lunches came with either soup/minestrone or side of tomato, onion, olives, vinegrette salad. Also huge loaves of garlic bread dunked in olive oil. The food was outstanding and also came with a side of pasta. The portions were generous and this was definitely like old school/grandma made!!! Half the restaurant is a bar with like 100 different beers and the other side is the restaurant. We will be back!!! The pictures on yelp don't lie. Yummy!!!!

Great "old school" Italian restaurant. One of my book clubs picked this location and I'm so happy they did. Not sure I would have found this one on my own. I went with the Veal Parm and it was amazing. The husband did Veal Marsala and even though I am not a huge fan of Marsala - the bite I tried was flavorful and the wine didn't overhwelm the meat. Good food, good service and a nice local hangout sort of feel. I'm already planning our next visit because the Black Russian cheeseburger (with onions on pumpernickel) is calling my name!

Love the tuna oriental salad much more than the seafood salad I loved last visit. Mostly due to the salt explosion on the seafood one....too salty for my taste....but great seafood n portion size. I'm definitely going to try every salad here at Gino's in due time. Their bread is soooooo deeeeelishhhh! And my husband rants n raves about the chicken parm....which is Huge in every way! Definitely worth becoming a regular here! Try it for yourself!

A nice place for a date or family dinner. A nice choices of menu items. Most meal are large enough to share. Be warned the pizzas are large, but fantastic. My wife order one think it was a personal sized pizza based on the price. The staff is very pleasant.

Excellent service and the tuna appetizer was amazing! I'm not a huge fan of the typical carb heavy Italian fare so I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of lower carb items on the menu. I plan on coming back. Great little local place that went far beyond my expectations.

This place is ridiculous, and so close to a 5-star review from me that it hurts to post a 4. I have driven past this place for many years, and for whatever reason, never considered stopping in. So many small Italian joints have disappointed me over the years, so I guess I'm always a little skeptical. But one day about a year ago, I was involved in some pretty serious burger talk with Steve E & Kelleigh M and they told me about this place and how they have excellent burgers. I was like, "Burgers at an Italian restaurant?" I reluctantly bookmarked the place, time marched on and I long forgot about it until this past weekend. My 15 year old son wanted to go out and get some food, and tells me he's tired of all the chain food, so I whip out the old Yelp app and start looking at bookmarks. I'm reading them off, and he selected Gino's, much to my surprise. So I make him change from his shorts to pants and we hit the road. So it's Friday night, around 6PM and we're seated immediately. Shortly after we arrive, the place fills up pretty quickly. Capacity is just under 100, so when I say quickly, I mean it. For whatever reason, when I think Italian restaurant, I believe pants are in order, either casual slacks or jeans at the very least. And after making my son put on pants, I was surprised to see a couple of grown ass men wearing shorts and t-shirts. One moron was even wearing a freaking baseball cap. Seriously people? We ordered a lot of food. Too much, probably, but it was all very good. We started with the Italian Sampler #2 for an appetizer. The toasted ravioli and the calamari were fantastic. The muscles were large and pretty good as well. The cheese sticks however tasted like they came frozen in a bag. Next up, our salads. The veggies were fresh, crisp and clean, but the dressings (ranch and Caesar) were terrible. They both tasted like straight vinegar. Very confusing. Finally, our meals arrive. We got the Italian Dinner Sampler with chicken parm, lasagna and alfredo linguini. This dish was fantastic! Every aspect of it, including the alfredo sauce, which is usually a huge let down at small Italian joints. And the burger, as advertised by my Yelp fam, was deeeeelicious. Flame grilled, fat and juicy. Nice, sharp Swiss and fresh mushrooms on top. The only issue was the bun, which was far from fresh. Additionally, it wasn't toasted or anything. So it's like they put all this consideration into every part of this burger, then reached into some Winn-Dixie burger bun bag, grabbed one out and slapped it on there. I took one bite and it just crumpled into 3 or 4 pieces, so I discarded it and ate the burger with a fork. If they use a better bun, or at least toast it, they have the best burger in Carrollwood/Forest Hills hands down. Like wine and beer? Well they have plenty to choose from, especially with beer. I was surprised to see such a large collection of craft and imported beers. I had an OBP Pilsner. As for the server, he served his purpose. He wasn't very personable, but he smiled when he brought out our food and everything came out at a good pace. Overall, this place wins and I can't wait to return.

We were visiting friends in Tampa and they live just down the street from Gino's. We stopped in and all had a big dinner the night before we left. My wife had the tortellini which she share a few. They were filled with a creamy cheese mixture that was quite good. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. The sauce was a bit salty and the meatballs were dry. My kids all had the spaghetti and meatballs (kids menu) but theirs weren't dry, quite perplexing. My friends enjoyed their lasagna which was piled high and covered in melted cheese that was slightly crispy. I was jealous. It was a good local Italian eatery. You should try it out.

I confess that I knew nothing about this restaurant until I read Katy S. and Kelleigh M.'s reviews, but have since been to Gino's several times for some delicious and classic Italian comfort food dinners. Gino's Bar & Restaurant is located on the northern end of Armenia Avenue in Carrollwood. To get there you drive north on Armenia, cross over Busch Boulevard, and follow the road as it winds around to your right. Make a left at the first traffic light (which actually puts you back onto Armenia Avenue), and you'll see Gino's on your left, under the cluster of trees, and behind the gas station. As you face the building the entrance to the bar is the door on your left, and the entrance to the dining room is the door to your right. Apparently they also have a banquet hall, but I believe that must be in a separate building. The place is very casual and comfortable with tables and built-in booths in the dining area, and high-tops, booths, and bar-top seating in the bar. The wait staff is superbly-trained and extremely-friendly. Each time I've been there my server has talked with passion about the evening's specials and how the food will be prepared, and given lots of great suggestions about pairing appetizers with entrées and wine. I've never had to ask for a drink refill or search for my server when I was ready for my check. The dinner menu is very classic Italian with a nice mix of appetizers including bruschetta, fried ravioli, calamari, Caprese salad, mussels, gnocchi, and flat bread pizzas. The entrées all come with Caesar salad, a house Italian salad, homemade soup, and some incredible garlic bread. Dinner entrées include Italian samplers with lasagna, eggplant or chicken parmagiana, capellini or linguini pastas. You'll find traditional spaghetti, baked ziti, raviolis, fettuccini alfredo pasta dishes. If you like seafood specials you'll find shrimp, grouper, salmon, mussels, scallops, and clams on the menu. Chicken or Veal lovers will see parmagiana, picata, marsala, and sorrentino choices. During my last visit I had Veal Scapariello which was veal medallions sautéed with sage, homemade Italian sausage, mushrooms, pepperoncini, garlic, olives, and white wine served over linguini. (Please pardon me while I start drooling on the keyboard.) The portion was HUGE and there was plenty to take home for a second meal. Not too shabby for a $16 entrée! The lunch menu has soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, and wraps. This place is well worth a visit if you're looking for something different from the standard chain Italian restaurants so prevalent in Carrollwood. 4 thumbs up earns this place a super el-yummo rating from me!

Tonight was our first visit to Gino's and we will be back. We were a group of 9 and they were able to accommodate us without issue. Most everyone enjoyed their meals. My sister didn't are for hers as she ordered Eggplant Parmigiana and felt the sauce was to sweet. A matter of preference she remarked. Kid friendly.

OMG! Best food ever! Even my Momma says it's good! The shrimp gnocchi appetizer is pure heaven and the eggplant parmigiana appetizer was amazing! ! They give you oven fresh bread drizzled with garlic butter need I say more! If you dine on the weekend nights be sure to take advantage of the specials!! Will be back for more!!!

So if you're from the bi-state region of St Louis you know about The Hill and its Italian restaurants on just about every corner. Well this place would fit in and make it there quite well. First they have toasted ravs that are delectable, calamari perfect, and a great salad though heavy on the dressing like on The Hill. Portions are large and the veal parmigiana and chicken Marsala were great. And top it off with great wines and fantastic tiramisu! My only complaint is the lack of attention by the overwhelmed servers. They didn't refill a water glass and could have sold us all another glass of wine if they only asked. Atmosphere is rustic quaint with nice artwork to buy. Going back with friends.

OK, I'm in! Best chicken pram sandwich I've ever had. The "sandwich" was not on the menu; delightful staff said "No Problem!" ...most places use a smaller portion for the sandwich but not here. fantastic bread, tips cut off the chicken and stacked on top-it was a monster! Great onion rings, really nice staff; the 5th star for me came with Abita amber on draught..! Thank you there will be no further questions. Owner came out afterwards (Gino's son) and filled me in on why this particular dish is do good - never frozen; breaded by hand when it's ordered. Seriously good stuff, seriously nice folks.

My husband and I have been here twice so far and both visits have been good. The first time was the best visit. The first time I got the spinach fettucine alfredo and so far that is our favorite. When we went the first time the service was perfect and our waiter even boxed up our food for us before we even asked for a box. Like everyone has said the bread is very good. I got the minestrone soup which I thought was good but not the best I have ever had. My husband got the caesar which we didn't love because it has the thinner dressing, not the nice creamy caesar dressing we like. The second time we went was a little later in the evening. When we got there it wasn't too busy but by the time we left people were waiting for tables. Understandably the service was slower this time. We split the appetizer sampler and the sampler with the chicken parmesan. The food was pretty good but not as good as the fettucine alfredo. We did really like the stuffed ravioli, I loved that it was stuffed with cheese. We really wanted to try the bananas foster but unfortunately they were out, so we'll have to try it some other time. Overall I really like this place. I definitely want to try the crab ravioli next time.

This is a hidden secret (well at least for me) that apparently has been in the carrollwood area for some time. Lindsay H and a friend invited me to dinner at Gino's. At first I thought they meant Gio's on Dale Mabry and waters but when Lindsay H sent me a screen shot of the yelp profile, I scratched my head. How had I never heard of this place before? I showed up at a little before 7pm on a Wednesday. How busy could a place be on a cold, dreary Wednesday? Well apparently standing room only. I snagged the last table ( enter on the right for the restaurant-the left for the bar). The server came by very quickly with 4 waters and asked if I'd like anything to drink. When I asked if there were any happy hour specials he said it was $2.50 CRAFT beer all night? Shut the front door! And to boot, they had Cigar City Florida Cracker. Sold! I don't know if they keep their beer exceptionally cold or if I just haven't had one in awhile, but that beer tasted wonderful. Their menu is no frills, red sauce Italian. With that being said, they do have pizzas and some Alfredo type sauces, but don't expect gourmet Italian. I went with the $11 eggplant parm. The server described it as lasagna but made with eggplant. Sounds delish. It came with the most wonderful side house salad (no iceberg here) and the most artery clogging garlic bread you'll ever taste. We had two pregnant women at the table, which was perfect. It gave us a excuse to ask for a second round of this delicious garlicy yumminess. I was very happy when my big ole plate of eggplant arrived. The rest of the table ordered a variety of dishes, but I must say I think my selection was the best. You know what was even better? My bill! For $22, out the door, I got a wonderful salad and bread and enough food for another meal, all with tax and too included. Oh and don't forget the 2 beers I had. I'll definitely be back, especially on a Wednesday to take advantage of the wonderful craft beers.

This spot is one of my favorites in the area.. I have never been disappointed. It's been around a long time and there's an easy explanation- the food is amazing. The bread alone is worth it. The Alfredo will make you slap your grandma and the portions are enough for two meals.

Large portions, cozy atmosphere, and sooooo yummy!! Great get together spot. So far I've had the chicken parmesan, the lasagna, calamari, and baked ziti and my review remains the same!! ALL DELICIOUS and worth ordering again =)

Service is good. Beer and wine selection is great for a small italian restaurant. The food is good on some aspects as being traditional italian, but some dishes come out without a lot of flavor. Staff is courteous and attentive.

  • Shabba R.

MASSIVE portions. The lasagna, meatloaf, many of the dishes that include a 'side' of pasta, the flatbread pizzas, etc. all come out in huge amounts; enough that I easily turn it into two or possibly three meals. Great for lunch too! The tomato caprese salad is a great appetizer they offer that is often overlooked; it's not like a typical Italian restaurant where you might get three tomato slices, here you get perhaps 10 to 12 smaller slices each with a big hunk of cheese topping it. Very good value. For desert, they have the best Tiramisu I've ever had, anywhere. Only complaint about the place is no liquor; just beer and wine. Would go a lot more if they offered the hard stuff.

  • Joshua C.

Food was excellent and prices are reasonable. However, the service left much to be desired. They weren't that busy, but we had to ask another server for water refills and even the check. I think I might try again this restaurant. I enjoyed the pasta with vodka sauce. I will review again, hoping it was the particular waiter or just an off day

Wow, I don't think Tamponians know good Itallian, this place is overrated. I had the Lasagna and my friend had the Spaghetti. Both were subpar at best. Can't really explain bad Italian, but it was a combination of things. They had a great wine selection though, and a nice atmosphere, though all the waiters were old men, which I thought was a little strange. Two stars for the wine.

Good little local place. Not much on ambience. I prefer takeout. Just be aware of the "parking lot." Side of the building. Close quarters. Easy to get dinged up. Otherwise, good Italian food and fair prices. Buy a bottle of vino to go. They knock $10 off the price. Can't beat it. Love the house salad. All in all, a good local joint that is best as a take out restaurant.

  • Kathy D.

What can I say, it is an institution. Great burgers, seafood, salad & of course pasta anf itian dishes. Some may think it looks like a dive, but they would be sadly mistaken. I always have trouble deciding what to eat, as it is all homemade and so yummy. If food selection wasn't tough enough add the extensive wine and beer offerings. No matter what you select you will be happy, satisfied and full, with a people bag to go. Go for lunch or dinner. Enjoy!

I went here last night with my boyfriend and his family. They raved about how great this place was but my boyfriend and I were not that impressed. I ordered 2 Sangria's. They were really sweet and cheap ($5.95) but they tasted like all sugar and no wine. Next...fried raviolis and marinara sauce. The fried ravioli's were definitely frozen and the marinara sauce was jarred. The garlic bread was soft, buttery and seasoned but tasted commercial like. I ordered the Grouper Piccata that came with a side of pasta and a salad. The Caesar Salad was good but the olive that was in it, tasted funky. The Grouper Piccata was disgusting and the pasta had sauce that was definitely reheated and had oil blobs on it (from being microwaved). My boyfriend ordered spaghetti with meatballs that he didn't like either. I had a taste of the eggplant parm...very salty What I did like was the owner...he was friendly, and the dessert...tiramisu and chocolate chip cannoli. I liked how it was a local place with indoor/outdoor seating and a separate bar. It had a local feel and he had an extensive list of bottle craft beers. My boyfriend said the glasses were very clean for the beers (he works in the beer industry) but the draft lines were dirty. I wanted to give them 2 stars but I also took note of the good drink specials they had for the week.

Ate here with my wife and daughter who is 9. Happy hour was $4.50 house wine Woodbridge. The wine was fine, but the food set it apart. My daughter loved the Alfredo sauce on spaghetti. My wife and I split the Italian sampler and agreed the chicken parmesan was our favorite. Had Bananas Foster over cheesecake for desert and it was out of this world! Enjoy, and you won't be disappointed.

Bruschetta with spaghetti sauce & olive oil to Cesar salad with what appeared to be a oily dressing I had the misfortune to happen into. My pitcher of sangria had it not been only wine with a few fruit slices not calmed me down I would have made a scene. I had to ask for refills on bread to fill the void left by chicken an gnocchi. All said we spent $68 and were left wondering how they stay in business.

We were looking for a yummy local Italian place. We had mussels app, they were very tough, over cooked, chewy. We ordered gnocchi it was definitely store bought, we were hoping for light pillowy goodness, instead soupy hard pasta. Cheese ravioli was decent. Bread was good but oily. Not impressed.

I went to Gino's on my latest trip to Tampa and I was definitely impressed. I had a race the next morning so carb loading on pasta sounded like a great idea! We started out with the fried ravioli which were super tasty. I liked that they were filled with cheese and not meat (like most of the ones I've had). I ordered baked ziti with sausage for my meal and it came with a Caesar salad and garlic bread. The salad was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. The dressing was great and my salad was gone in no time. My friend told me the garlic bread was incredible and she wasn't lying. I could have eaten all of it myself if allowed. So so good! My baked ziti came out and I immediately thought about how there was no way I was going to finish all of it. I did a pretty good job though and sent the little bit that was left home with my friend (since I wouldn't be able to take leftovers with me). The sauce was great, it had just the right amount of sausage and there was a LOT of cheese. I love cheese so this made me really happy. There was plenty of cheese IN the dish and then it was topped with loads more. Such a happy Meghan!

The Place is phenomenal! It's delicious, they're home town, family owned (believe son does the cooking now). Been twice, second time satisfying a 2 month craving for the place! Both times I did the spaghetti being the sauce is my style and delicious. Easily knowing it's made fresh daily. This time was veal parm and previous was the trio ( lasagna, spaghetti, chicken parm) each dish outstanding! Also have to send love out to the phenomenal freshly baked garlic bread =) amazing local spot try it and Thank Me Later.

Go back to south tampa Diego! And to the guy who left a remark about old men as waiters wtf does it matter? OK onto my review lol. This is hands down the best Italian food in tampa. My wife and I eat here at least once a week! Veal parm is insane and the burgers holy hell try the Black Russian! Sit on the bar side and ask for Lisa she's always on point and wicked cool.

What a pleasant dining experience! An adorable restaurant with authentic Italian! We were served enough food to feed a family of 5 (it was just the two of us). The entrees come with your choice of Caesar salad or a cup of soup. I got the Italian wedding soup that was delicious and my husband opted for the Caesar. It was huge. Very fresh lettuce and homemade Caesar vinaigrette dressing with baked croutons and a black olive. Also delicious. We ordered bruschetta and oh my goodness, phenomenal! Ok fresh baked bread! My husband got the Italian platter number 3 with Chicken Parmesan, baked ziti and Alfredo pasta. His favorite was the chicken Parmesan but was a very touch decision. I got the shrimp and broccoli tortellini which it served with lots of shrimp and homemade Alfredo sauce that is to die for. We just moved to this side of town and can't wait to go back. We cannot believe we had never been.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
