Diabetics must resist their temptations when dining at Applebee's. Most of the items on Applebee's menu is either stuffed with sodium or sugar. You must be extra careful and pick low-sugar and low-sodium diet at Applebee's if you are diabetic.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for Diabetics:

If you are starting your meal with appetizers then make sure you skip the Classic Buffalo sauce, Honey BBQ sauce, and sweet Asian Chile sauce on your wings order. Among the steaks, you must stay away from the Applebee's Riblets platter as well as Bourbon Street Steak at all costs. Shrimp 'N Parmesan Sirloin is also not recommended. High Blood Pressure at Applebee's

Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Blood Pressure

Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. Skip all the chicken dishes and seafood at Applebee's except Grilled Chicken Breast and Baked Haddock without sides respectively. You must also skip Brunch Burger, Quesadilla Burger, Triple Bacon Burger, and Whiskey Bacon Burger at Applebee's. High sodium intake can be lethal for a high blood pressure candidate. Avoid ordering foods that contain over 1000mg sodium at Applebee's, especially if you're dining alone.

High Cholesterol at Applebee's

Well, steaks and ribs go hand in hand with cholesterol. Being their signature dish, it will be a challenge to find low-calorie, healthy food for those concerned with their cholesterol levels. However, you can always opt for their salads and other light foods to keep the cholesterol in check.

My girlfriend and I decided to go to Applebee's, since I had a gift card that still had funds on it. When we arrived, we were seated right away. Our waiter, Tim, was busy with guests at another table, but did recognize us. When he came to our table, he took our drink orders. When he delivered the drinks, he asked if we were ready to order. I proceeded to inquire about appetizers. Tim asked if we wanted to order entrees at that time. My response was, "as long as you don't put both orders in at the same time." I also requested ranch dressing for both the appetizers and the meals. The appetizers were delivered shortly after we placed the order, and within 3 minutes, the entrees were delivered as well. After I complained about receiving them both at almost the same time, the server said he would notify our waiter, Tim. I asked to speak to the manager. When Tim came to the table, I reminded him that I had asked that the appetizers and entrees not be delivered at the same time. French fries get cold very quickly when delivered the same time as the appetizer. Tim's response, "I believe that the appetizers were delivered first". The manager arrived and I explained the situation, and that we also requested ranch dressing with both the appetizers and entrees, that we did not receive. The manager did comp the appetizers. Not once did Tim apologize for the mistake. The ranch dressing was not delivered in a timely fashion, and we were never asked if we wanted refills on our drinks, or given extra napkins (kinda hard to eat ribs with one napkin each). Tim never asked if we needed anything, nor did he ask if our meal was OK. I guess he was not pleased that I asked to speak to a manager. I will not be going back to this Applebee's. The ribs were sub par, the fries would have been better had they been hot, but the coleslaw was very good. My suggestion, Tim needs additional training. Appetizers are usually suggested when drink orders are taken.

Just trird the curled potatoes for Happy Hour. They had a decent taste, were crispy and not really thst greasy, overall not bad. But, what is this cheese-salsa stuff. It is disquesting. Get the potatoes just don't dip!

I had an opposite experience than some lf the other reviewers. My husband and I arrived around 11:30 on Tuesday night. They were pretty busy and I expected to have to wait for everything. Boy was I wrong. We were greeted and sat immediately, our server came over for drinks within minutes, and the food came out quickly. We were not seated in the bar area and she said my appetizer was half off. I don't know if that was because of the time or if we got the bar deal mentioned in another review.

I actually can't decide if I want to give them a 2 or a 3. I'm also not really sure why we keep giving this location more chances. It's seems like every other time we come here some thing wrong happens. Most time it is not service wise, most. It's been having our boneless wings come to us not fully cooked, not being approached by our service at all, we waited 15 minutes till we left. The only reason we waited that long is who we thought was our service just got sat with a big party we waited till he got their drink but once he started taking food orders without even giving us a "I'll be right with you" we left. I also don't understand how that happens since there is a host, it wasn't busy, don't give the server who just got sat with a party of 15 another table. Last night we went and order our boneless wings first, 5-10 minutes later order our entrees, one of which was steak. Our entrees came out before the app and we still had to wait for the boneless.

Well 2 times in about a week is a new record for me for Applebee's , that same friend who suggested this location this time , so off I went. It was a Friday night and even at 1130, it was standing room only, however our wait was only about 10 minutes. I prefer the Brandon location over this one, much nicer and more comfy. Our server was very friendly and attentive despite how busy it was. I contemplated on a few different items but we both settled on that Pecan Encrusted Chicken Salad once again , this was why he suggested this place , he has a limited palate and he thinks Applebees has awesome food, yea ok sure...... The Salad was good but again the one I had in Brandon was much better , our other friend who also has a limited palate it seems ordered a burger on account he thinks they have the best burgers anywhere... No comment ( I understand its personal preference, but applebees???) I guess growing up near the restaurant capital of the world (NYC if you don't know) I have become biased and a snob in a sense of what good food really is . There are much better options for food even in Tampa but my friends are not as adventurous as myself.. Yes I know , back to the review... Overall for less than $12 it was typical but decent. Heads Up : If you decide to try that salad my suggestion is to have them add in some strawberries and blueberries to it, it compliments and enhances it much more.

It's been a while since I have been to Applebee's until recently. Forgot they had 2 for $20.00 which was nice. It includes one appetizer and two entrees. We had boneless wings for our appetizer. I really think our waitress ate one because there were 11 which is an odd number. "Girl, spit that nugget out....it's mine! You know we were suppose to get a dozen!!" For the entrees we had the 7 oz sirloin that came with broccoli or rice and mashed potatoes. The steak was good but my broccoli tasted odd. Overall not a bad deal for $20.00.

My son went to Applebee's on Hillsboro just west of Dale Mabry Highway. He ordered hot wings from the menu. The server brought back a plate of wings encrusted with cayenne pepper. The powder was so thick that you could actually see powder specks all over the celery sticks that the company the chicken wings and in a few places you could see caked on cayenne powder. This is unacceptable from any franchise restaurant. I recommend that the manager take a good hard look at his kitchen staff and make the appropriate changes. We will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and the health department to make the appropriate complaints.

This place is hilarious. En route to a Bucs game we stopped in for some bar apps to fortify us before a long game. There weren't any seats left at the sparce bar, so we asked if we could sit at a table and get some half priced bar apps. No. Could we belly up to the bar and eat bar apps? No. Could we pull some unused chairs up to the bar? No.Our party and the others still coming to meet us could pay full price for bar apps at a bar table a few feet away however. Really? GTFOH.

Two thumbs down for this Applebee's location. In fact, I'll even throw in a middle finger up as well. Here's the deal. Me and La Chica eat at Applebee's all the time. Pretty much every location, whichever is closest to us when we're itching to take advantage of the half price apps. 90% of the time, it's the location on Sheldon and Linebaugh. Not only is it close to home, but they know a thing or two about customer service. The general manager at the Hillsborough location should be re-trained by the Sheldon staff and or simply demoted to a kitchen prep job. This past Sunday, we decided to hit up this location before heading to the Bucs game to get or guts full, so as to avoid $700 nacho and half a million dollar hot dogs in the stadium. We know that you can only take advantage of the half price apps at the bar, however there were no seats at the bar. Not a big deal because our regular Applebee's on Sheldon will extend the offer if you're sitting at a high top in the bar area IF there are no seats available at the bar. Enter our waitress. We ask her if we can take advantage of the deal. She's unsure, so asks the manager. She came back with the manager, Steve, and he advised us that we could not take advantage of the deal. He went on and on stating company policy, which apparently in non-negotiable and unwavering. He wnt on to explain how the "computer" will not allow half price apps to be rang up for a table other than a bar seat. So I said, well I can sit at the one seat at the bar, order and then bring the food over to our table, and he said, "No. I'm sorry that's not allowed either." At this point, I'm pissed off because I don't understand how this deal is first come, first serve at this location. "So because they got here before us, they can get the deal and I can't?" I asked while pointing over at the bar, just 10 feet away from me. He replied with, "Unfortunately." I explained that if we couldn't get the deal, we would go somewhere else, and he just didn't seem to care. So we bounced. All I can hope for is that this location quietly goes out of business or that they learn how to get staff that knows when to make exceptions.

This place needs a new manager and as far as the server Kate she was terrible. She didn't speak she never said thank u or your welcome... She never asked if we needed anything else or how we were doing... She acted bothered. Food was cold service was terrible I'll never be back.. Wait for this... I'm updating cause it's a couple days later and they took a five dollar tip unauthorized out of my credit card when I put a line through the tip area!!!

They remodeled and it looks really great now. I was here a couple weeks ago and they had paper streamers hanging from the roof which I thought was really tacky, that has been since removed and it looks much better.

Feeling the new and improved Bees! lol The totally gutted the bar area and redid it. I like the changes they made not only in appearance but in the food. They stepped up there game and added some cooler apps. Itried out the lunch combo special. You pick two items for lunch and I got chicken caesar salad and shrimp linguine. I base how I like a place but how much they give and how full i feel afterwards. They put the plate in front of me and I thought... ok decent amount of food for $9! The chicken caesar was so fresh and the chicken was cooked perfectly. They didn't put too an excess amount of sauce either. The shrimp linguine surprisingly had a lot of pieces of shrimp, that's a first in any restaurant. There were two sauces mixed together one was ok and then the other red sauce was a bit salty ... But ... I currently have enough left over to eat for my mid-day snack! #winning! There are also a ton of specials every day. 1/2 off apps from 10pm-2am! or at the bar from 11am-4pm Another special is Girls night out on Wednesday- 5pm to close $3 apps and $3 select drinks!

Had an awkward visit a few months back listening to a server argue with a manager regarding a table that was being ignored (apparently wasn't the servers section?) that sat there for a solid 20 minutes without service, (I'm assuming it wasn't the manager's job either). The server eventually huffed and puffed her way to them and took their order. I returned a few days ago for a birthday celebration to a distracted waitress who messed up our drink order, didn't bring out our food (other people did), and the birthday girl sat without her food until we stopped the waitress and inquired about it (everyone else had their meals already). Food was inconsistent (both steaks were ordered medium rare and came back completely different, one over cooked, one rare). Will not return or recommend this location, ever. Revamping the look is nothing if the service and food quality don't match up.

We went to this Applebee's for a date night. We got seated really quickly which was definitely a plus. We ordered from the 2 for $25 menu. We chose an appetizer to go with our meals. The problem was that we actually got our meals before our appetizer. We had to ask about the appetizer then it was brought out. Overall the food was pretty good. We got boneless wings, the chicken and shrimp and ribs. Lots of seasoning on the chicken and shrimp, but the potatoes it came with lacked any seasoning at all. Wait staff was nice but we almost never saw them. Our last couple of experiences at Abblebee's has been pretty sub par. Don't know if we will be going back anytime soon.

I can't really complain because everyone did a good job. It took longer than usual for the waiters to start taking our orders because they didn't that many and they had to serve a large group. It also took time for everyone to show up. Nobody had anything negative to say about the food. Some even ordered a 2nd meal.

Came to Applebee's for Mother's Day with my family. I haven't been to this location in quite a while so I was expecting great service. My bad. When we walked in we were seated fairly quickly which was good but when shown the booth we were going to sit at, there was trash and dirty napkins under it. Do they not clean after a previous party has left? Ew. I didn't say anything because it was something I could over look. The waiter, who I won't mention his name because honestly I understood that he was new and still getting the hang of it, took our drink orders and took a bit long to get them to us. But like I said it wasn't his fault if anything this location needs to get better at training their employees so they don't get blamed for it. After waiting for about 20 min to get our food order taken and another 30 for our food to come out I had no appetite. On top of that while the rest of us got our food, my sister in laws plate didn't come out. We had to wait another 15 min waiting and asking where her food was until the manager finally brought it out giving a simple sorry not even offering a discount or to comp it since it had take too long. Needless to say she ended up just taking it home since her appetite was gone. She didn't feel too special on Mother's Day at this point. I know better than to come to this location again.

While the inside of the restaurant itself is really nice, the food isn't the best quality Applebee's food I've had. I've been here 3 times now, and 1 time the steak wasn't cooked how I asked, another time the honey pepper chicken didn't have any honey pepper sauce on it (and when I asked for some, the waitress was totally confused), and another time they just got the order totally mixed up. 2/3 times the service has been really slow, especially near the end of the meal. They do have automated paying things at the restaurant, so you can just pay with card and leave, without having to wait on a waiter to show up to bring you the bill.

I have always been a fan of this neighborhood chain restaurant. They always had good affordable food, lots of drink specials and in some locations, karaoke.I don't know about you, but a buzzed guy with a microphone in his hand is endlessly entertaining for me! Since I have had to change my diet and lifestyle due to diabetes, I love this place even more. For those of us trying to live a healthier lifestyle, Applebees gives you more choice than any other place that I have visited to date. I counted 12 different entrees or meal options that did not include eating a salad. Wonderful! This week I went there for lunch. They have a little green symbol next to all meals that have 550 calories or less. I had the Signature_Sirloin_with_Garlic_Herb_Shrimp_6_2011_high_Ressignature sirloin with garlic shrimp, broccoli, potato and bruschetta and sliced almonds. The meat was seasoned well and cooked to a perfect medium. The potatoes were boiled but seasoned, there were only 3 pieces which was really enough and the broccoli was a little crisp and well seasoned as well. I was full, had no desire for dessert and the bill for 2 including tip was less than $25.00. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The Manager came by twice to check on us and all in all it was a pleasurable experience. In general I am not a chain restaurant person but for me Applebees is a keeper. It's important to me to be able to go out and have a choice of more than salad or wraps. I wish more restaurants catered to people with special dietary needs. I also hope that Applebees continues to add more diet friendly options. If you are trying to watch your weight and your wallet this place is a must try. If you know of other places that have a decent range of options for diet conscious people, drop me a line and I will go check it out. Applebees Hypersmash.com

Place is always packed. I like how they changed the place because it is nice but my server sucked. I don't remember his name :/ I am probably going to go to hell for this but I have to warn you guys the server is tall and thin. Dark brown hair with a lazy eye. Just first appearance you can tell he hates life. I am not over exaggerating but seriously my boyfriend and I said for maybe forty minutes. I just got off of work (serving) so I understand they are busy. He did not properly greet me and said what do you want to drink. My drinks again took forever. I waited maybe another thirty. I could not take it anymore because all the other tables are getting served, but not the same server. If he forgot to bring my drinks that means he forgot to put my order in. I called over the manager short Spanish man and mentioned how bad of a service hes given me. He said ok I'm sorry we are very busy. Brings me my drink and scurries away. When my food came out I thanked the server which is again not my server. The next time I saw my server was when he brought me my check. What the irritating thing about it was he stood there until I paid. I still gave him a 20% tip because if he did have an off day maybe the tip could make him wake up. The 1 star though is not only for him but the manager too. Not caring about your customers is no bueno!!!

I took my girlfriend to your restaurant on Saturday night - I just want to say how disappointed I am with the service on the evening. I have visited your restaurant on many occasions and never have I had such bad service. I arrived at the restaurant around 9pm. We played some music on the jukebox and started dancing. We were approached by "Tony" the manager who had been stalking us for about 30 minutes and told us that we could not hug each other because it was rude in front of other customers.........If I was able to give this business a "Zero" rating by all means neccessary it deserves it. I will never spend a dollar in this RACIST pissed poor managed restaurant. So from the bottom of my heart, Tony and Applebee's please go to hell!!!!!!!!!!!

Service is always great. I mean great. Food is only fair. Maybe I am spoiled by eating out at many different places. But... what is up with their classic wing sauce. It is the worst and they are so proud of it. Not very good way too over powering. If they mellowed it out a bit it would be great for my taste. I had the riblett basket and it was very dry again I have to stop ordering it. I have been holding out for the great riblets I have had years ago. No more. Moving on to some new items. I will be back. I will try to find my new favorite dish here.

I don't normally do chains, but I remembered loving the lunch menu from Applebees back in the day. I came here for a special get-together with a very dear friend for lunch. I probably should have asked to sit at the bar, but whatever. The very nice hostess sat us In a far back booth with was perfect. We could enjoy our time, not take up space in the lunch rush area, and have some peace and quiet. The waitress seemed nice but that would soon change. Between her, the manager, and the other two waiters in the area, we were constantly interrupted and checked on. I like someone making sure I don't need anything, but we were bothered every 2 minutes. I think it was the end of our waitress' shift, because she kept trying to bring us our ticket when we weren't done. She actually interrupted us twice when we were eating and asked if we wanted a box. At one point I said, I am still eating (with a wad of sandwich in my mouth). When she finally just brought us the ticket (which talked me out of ordering dessert), she came up several times to check the holder for the payment. I ended up hiding the holder on the seat to hope that she would quit checking. Didn't work. On the 5th check for the payment, I reiterated that we weren't ready to leave. At that point, we were completely ignored. I would have appreciated that earlier, but when I had to ask several times for a refill on water with little response, I was definitely annoyed. Keep in mind, this restaurant was maybe 1/3 full. We were not taking up space and no one else was ever seated in the section we were sitting at. We were there for a special occasion and I am so aggravated with the results. The food was good. Their lunch specials are still great. Love the variety of choices, the low prices, and the decent portions. I cant say I would never go back to an Applebees, but with how little I am Tampa, I will not be going to this establishment.

About Applebee's

Applebee is an American full-service restaurant brand popularly known for its signature Riblets. Applebee was conceptualized in 1980 by Bill and TJ Palmer in Atlanta, Georgia. At first, the restaurant was named T.J. Applebee's RX for Edibles and Elixirs. After the concept was acquired by W.R. Grace and Company, the restaurant was renamed as Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.

Later in 2007, IHOP Corp. now known as DineEquity, Inc. acquired Applebee's and began their journey together to make Applebee's the world's largest full-service restaurant chain. Today, Applebee's serves at more than 1,830 locations worldwide. The Applebee's menu ranges from Appetizers and Salads to heavy meals consisting of ribs and steak. Although the trademark dish Riblets is a hot favorite among regular Applebee's dwellers, the restaurant also serves some amazing burgers, sandwiches, pasta, and salads.
