I was craving a burger. So instead of going to Five guys I tried Char Hut for the first time. I got a good ole char burger. It was made to order. I got to pick out my toppings. The options included; cooked onions, mushrooms, and the basics. The burger itself was tasty. I have had better but I would get this burger again. What I really liked was the options of sides. You could get regular fries, sweet potato fries, black beans and rice, baked potato, and some others. I got black beans and rice. They were really good. Overall, I will go again. Maybe try the chicken sandwich or the fish sandwich. And some chili cheese fries, and some wings, and some onion rings, what the hell was I talking about again?

Best burger you can eat hands down. Anyone who says Five Guys grease burger is better is an idiot and has no taste. A place where a hamburger is grilled and made the way YOU want it it with over 10 toppings and choices of actual side items is always better than a place that fries up a hamburger on a girddle and you get to choose either mustard or ketchup and a greasy bag o' fries . Char-Hut also has a great hot dog, and their Spanish pork sammich is a hidden gem. When my friend comes from Gainesville the first place we hit up is the Char-Hut. Once again...Char-Hut makes Five guys, Back Yard Burger, and everyone else look like a welfare case.

I had lunch here with my sister and Brother-In-Law and was pleasantly surprised by experience here. First off upon arriving my sister informed the lady behind the counter that she had emailed coupons on her phone and she wanted to know if she could use them. The young lady standing next to her (which I believe was the manager) said that if she forwarded the email to her she could print them. Not only did they print them, the young lady cut the out and gave use the ones we didn't use. The reason this impressed me was because, as many of you my know they are not the most technologically advance please. The extra effort was appreciate. The staff was extra friend and they made me feel as if they wanted my business. Unlike a lot of other places that make you feel as if your inconveniencing them. My grilled chicken sandwich on wheat was fresh and very filling and the fact that they are one of the only places that has Fanta ginger ale made me swoon. Dont judge me! All on all it was a pleasant visit and I will definitely be back

I was in a brokers cram course at the local real estate board when thanks to Yelp iPhone App, found 'Char-Hut Nob Hill'. Day 1. Hamburger with the basics (& BBQ of course), fries and a fountain drink... $8 and tasty. I liked watching them make it in front of my Subway style. Day 2. Sushi grade Tuna sandwich with onion rings and it was ROCKIN! I would definitely recommend this place and seek it out if I were in the area again. Fast, cheap and delish!! I would bet everything they have is great. Oh yeah and both days were full with customers.

The term "Best Hamburger" gets tossed around with reckless abandon in the local papers, various food awards, etc. Char-Hut has been providing burger excellence since 1976. I think my earliest experience was in the early 80s. Char-Hut rises above! There are approx 5 South Florida locations, and I've never been disappointed at any of them. The best burgers in town, the best burgers in the state. Amazing juicy beef patties cooked to order and prepared in front of you. And a nice variety of buns, toppings (more bacon!). A friend of mine tells me that there is a non-menu Char-Chicken sandwich available. A burger plus a chicken breast on a bun, haven't it tried it yet but I'm told its amazing. Next time your in a burger mood, skip Cheeburger Cheeburger, Five Guys Burgers and Fries and goto Char-Hut.

Seriously underwhelmed by the quality of the food. Five guys is much better. Nothing special about this place at all.

This is a small chain that seems to be well run. The staff has low turnover and you never get the feeling that you get at McDonalds or BK that you may stand around like forever before they decide to notice you and take your order. They also work well together and seem to be happy on the job. When was the last time you saw that at a fast food place? Lunch is basically burgers, chicken, sausage, gyro and frank variations on a bun along with some low grade lunch salads. You have a choice of bun types, cheese and sides, all of which are credible. Everything is prepared in front of you, and burgers are cooked to your liking. Toppings are extensive and except for cheese are at no charge. No package-squished buns here, everything is delivered on a paper plate. The ambience is plain and clean. At lunch the crowd is working Joes - outside sales reps, tradesmen, city employees. A combo with a drink and a side will run $8-$9, likely a bit more than you think it should be, except that it is a good cut above the competition in quality. During good economic times, it can get quite busy at the noon hour.

Fast food of burgers and Caribbean fare. OMGosh and you get to pick your fresh toppings and sides. WINNER WINNER!

Had the grilled tuna sandwich. It was on the mild side as flavor goes. For most fish dishes I prefer mild. But with tuna I like the flavor and would like it to be a bit more robust.

Food is always good but it is annoying to call in for an order a head of time and still wait 20 minutes at the window.

The staff is friendly and polite...the food is good but pricy....well worth it for the quality of the food....my favorite is the double daddy steak with rice and beans..with that sweet hotsauce...

I've seen this place here forever, had to stop by.. Nothing too great in my opinion. Decent burger. I wouldn't be opposed to stopping back if somebody was dying for Char-Hut.

Love the food here!!!! The service at this location is not so good. Jasmine the lady on the grill forgot to make our pita bread. Then she forgot to put my burger on the grill with the rest of the order. She put a cold slice a cheese on my burger. All of this because she was distracted making calls on the phone instead of .working..smh...

My fav fast food burger in SoFL. I like their Sunrise location better because staff was usually more friendly and food came out better, but the Tamarac location would have (annual?) car shows in the parking lot.

  • G L.

Just a fast food joint. Burgers and chicken is not better than elsewhere, but there is more choice of toppings and the meat is cooked fresh on a grill. The flavor is better than a Mickey Ds or a BK, but not so much that the $ difference would make it a value. Kind of run-down looking place, but everyone treats you well (in my experience). I go there when I have little time, but don't want to carry out. I don't go out of my way to eat here.

Customer service was absolutely horrendous and food wasn't much better. We visited during late afternoon and therefore was not busy, Our order consisted of two combo meals and drinks and came to a whopping $18 which would have been half the price at Mickey D's for the same thing and would have been edible. When I checked my receipt I discovered we were charged for the plantains and onion rings which were included in the combo..a mater of $4 but the so-called manager had such a chip on her shoulder that she wouldn't listen and tried to tell me I was not overcharged. After much negotiation she refunded me $1.64. I gave her back her punch card and told her we would never be back.

I used to be a real stickler for their burgers. I hated going here because I thought they were overpriced. Honestly, now I crave their burgers. Their prices are high, but if you get two burgers and a large fry to share, it's not as bad. The taste of the fresh grill is what does it for me. The burgers are juicy enough for me not to need condiments like ketchup or mustard, and I usually add fresh mushrooms and char hut hot sauce.

  • Scott S.

Classic. This is a reason to move to South Florida. Order a "char-cheese with white american on a poppy seed bun" and then, at toppings station, "hot sauce only." It's not hot but it is sauce. Anything else in your burger will take away from the purity of this signature sauce with roots from Ted's Hotdogs in Buffalo. Order the onion rings. totally worth it. go now and go often.

Charhut is a great place to get an honest to goodness burger but don't expect to be impressed by the decor. I've been coming to this Charhut for a few years now even though it is some 8 miles from my house. Why drive 8 miles for a char chicken sandwich? They are truly that good. Here at char hut the food is simply excellent but the decor like going to a fast food restaurant in the 70's. If you can ignore the mediocre surroundings you're in for a treat. Charhut offers not only great burgers but chicken breast, steak, sausage or even sushi grade tuna on a kaiser roll. I hear the tuna is very good but I always seem to order the same thing. A double chicken breast with cheese and sautéed mushrooms (only) just incredible. My Son will instantly agree to eat here so it makes it a fast way to end the "what's for dinner" debate. On Price... Yes you will shell out about $8-$10 per person here but I'm telling you Yelpers... It's worth it. Occasionally they have coupons or a groupon going on and this can help to make it more reasonable but I don't mind paying for quality and quality is what you get at Charhut. The staff is always fairly nice (it is a fast food place) and the digs are meager, but come for the food and you won't be disappointed. I'm giving Charhut 4 stars for food alone as the decor and price must be ignored at times in the search for quality food. Charhut has no pretenses, they serve excellent food at a relatively fair price and are consistent every time I go.

I'm a regular to this location since I work in the area. I did a call-in order today which is super convenient. You can just call in your order and go through the drive thru to pick it up or go inside if you have time. The staff is always friendly but sometimes a little frazzled as lunchtime can get a little busy. I like that Caitlyn always remembers who you are (and where you work) even if she doesn't quite remember your name. Usually when you order inside you can 'babysit' your food everything comes out great. My only complaint about today's visit was that we asked that the fries be well done and they were just barely cooked. I don't do too many call ahead orders but I think next time I'll allow more time to go in and order to make sure everything is done the way I want. Everything else we ordered was great!

When you want your food cooked fast; but not fast food, drive to, or drive thru Char Hut! We've eaten here and from here on several occasions and today was no different in regards to food quantity as well as, quality. I ordered the Fiesta Meal w/pita; which consists of white rice, homemade style black beans, thin-sliced chicken on the grill and then cut, plus sweet plantains. My daughter ordered an all beef hot dog which came with thick-cut fries, a fountain drink and a chocolate chip cookie. As usual, the food was well prepared; however, the service needs improvement. They called my order; but when I brought it back to the table, the fries were missing from the kids combo, and the pita from mine. In addition to this, I had requested of the young man behind the counter for salsa on the side and he must have not heard me because he was so distracted with his female co-workers at the time; but he put it all over my chicken. When I went back nicely to advise that there were a couple of items missing, a young girl rudely said she would bring it to our table. Additionally, the children's corner could use a little sprucing up! Therefore, giving them the benefit of the doubt on a busy Wednesday evening (please see the pic. attached), I rate this experience with a whopping three stars! :/

This was my first time eating at a Char Hut and it was pretty much what I expected. The food was average. The one aspect that I was pleasantly surprised at was how friendly the staff was. The employee who took my order was really nice and accomodating and she even read the order back to make sure that she had typed it in correctly. I ordered the 1/4 grilled chicken sandwich w/fries and I had a coupon for a free hot dog. The hot dog was average and the chicken sandwich was about the same. They actually gave me a decent portion of fries which was nice. I decided to sit outside although I probably wouldn't choose to sit outside again due to the birds. This place is a little old and run down; however, I understand that this location has been in business for a really long time. I probably will try their burgers in the future.

Tried the place twice. Overpriced, dry and flavorless burgers. Bland liquid cheese on the fries. The fried onion rings are good but very oily. The smoke from the vents radiate outside the prep area. One of the older male staff at the grill was swearing and rude to his other employees and poking fun at them and ordering them around. Used a groupon, wasn't worth it. Will not go back.

This place was surprisingly good! I don't eat a lot of fast food (except Chipotle) but every now & then I crave a fast food fix. A friend & I were hungry late Saturday afternoon. Not really sure of what we wanted, I suggested Char Hut. Its been years since I have been there so I didn't have high expectations. I was completely surprised at the menu. Even the pickiest eater would have found something to order. They serve salads, burgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken, rice & beans, sausage, wings, steak, tuna & tons of side items. And they offer a selection of rolls & pita bread for your burgers & sandwiches. Ordering was a little confusing. You first read the wall menu & then you give your order to the person at the desk. It sort of looks like a hostess stand. Then you go to the cashier & pay for your order. As you wait in line you can see all the food being prepared. Its cooked right in front of you so it cant really cant get any fresher. My friend & I both ordered the jumbo hot dog platters. I ordered mine with onion rings & they were very good. I tried my friends fries & those were terrific. I ordered my hot dog well done & they cooked it perfectly & the girl cooking my hot dog even asked me if it was cooked enough because I ordered it well done. I had mustard & sauerkraut on mine & I felt like I was back in New York The toppings are endless. They have everything from salsa, hot sauce, pickles, relish, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions & mushrooms, yellow mustard, spicy mustard, mayo, ketchup. hot peppers & a few different types of cheeses. I'm sure that whatever you like you will find here. I was excited that they have Birch Beer instead of Root Beer. That was a nice surprise! Actually my entire experience at Char Hut was a nice surprise. The food was delicious & cooked perfectly. The prices are a little higher than most other fast food chains but I am a believer that you get what you pay for. You should give Char Hut a try next time your in the area. The burgers looked totally delicious & I am sure I will have one next time I am craving a juicy burger. But then again, the jumbo hot dog was really great.... :) The staff was friendly & parking was not a problem. I would recommend Char Hut without blinking an eye. The food is super yummy & sort of sells itself. Don't forget to bring extra napkins to your table. Enjoy!

I've eaten at the various Char-Huts in the past. Most of their food is pretty good. Burgers and other sandwiches are tasty. Chicken wings aren't half bad for a place that's basically a fast food joint. This last time, however, I decided to be a little healthier and ordered a crispy chicken salad. First, let me say that the menu board lists them as "Freshly Made Salads" and their bags have the words "Gourmet Salads" printed on them. So, I expected a fresh salad that was pretty good. Instead, I received a pile of bagged salad- the cheap kind with iceberg lettuce, some carrot shreds, and a couple of pieces of red cabbage in it- you know the one I mean! On top of my lettuce that was cut a week ago at some food processing plant were a few chicken tenders. Oh yeah and I got one little container of ranch dressing to go with it that was half full and might have been able to moisten 3 or 4 of the lettuce pieces. That was it! Literally that was it! They have sliced tomatoes and onions on their sandwiches, throw a couple of those on the salad as well so it looks like some effort was made. Seriously people! Now I realize that this is not exactly a gourmet restaurant. I wasn't actually expecting a gourmet salad like the bag promised, but come on guys! Even the folks at Mcdonalds and Wendy's make a half decent salad. Skip the salad. You're better off with a char grilled chicken sandwich or a burger. Forget the diet if you are dining here.

A great change from other fast food burger places. There was a lovely grilled meat aroma when we walked in. You could actually see the meat on the bun and it even had flavor! It was extra nice to have a choice of buns and such a large assortment of toppings, including sauteed onions and mushrooms. The sweet potato fries were not the usual fry size cuts, they were big wedges of crispy potatoes with a side of marshmallow sauce dip. My only real complaint was that the bacon was thin enough to read through and added no flavor to the burger. The staff was friendly and helpful, which always improves the experience. I also noticed some other intriguing things on the menu, like latin plates. I'll be interested to see what those are like. We'll definitely go back.

I've been there couple of times but I feel the food it's pricy for what it is.. Last time I order a chicken plate with rice and beans and It almost had no chicken and the whole plate full of rice and beans which they were tasteless. Didn't like it at all. I want to go back and try those hamburgers people say they are good!

I ate at Char Hut many times before I was ten. It was my favorite Florida restaurant On every family vacation... Xmas, intersession, Passover we went to Florida to visit our grandparents. My grandfather and I do not like seafood. So when the rest of the family went to The Rustic Inn, Poppa Sid and I would head to Char Hut. I am now a man of almost 50, live in South Florida and haven't been to Char Hut since 1981. This Saturday it was time to right that wrong. Enter one well done jumbo dog, an order of fries and a childhood favorite, Birch Beer. Ordering was smooth, the restaurant was clean, the service friendly, and the food was UnReal. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The dog was well cooked with as many toppings as any one could want. For me it's yellow mustard and pickled relish. The fries were terrific and the Birch Beer sublime. Sometimes a Brooklyn Boy needs fries and a dog. Thank you Char Hut for delivering the goods.

Had lunch in here recently and just wanted a burger. I was a bit disappointed in the burger and was surprised because the chicken and tuna sandwiches are so great. But this place is a staple in Broward County so I'll certainly go back and just try something else.

Back in the day when I was younger this was THE PLACE !! now it is THE EXPENSIVE PLACE. Unless you are one of those coupon queen's or kings this place has become more and more expensive to go to. The burgers are still decent. If you think about it a person make minimum wage has to almost work 2 hours to pay for 1 lunch here!! A burger, drink, fries without coupon is about $10. You are almost better off going to a place that has upscale burgers and spending $15.

I only went here because the sub shop i was hunting down was closed for good when i arrived to for sale signs. So went here instead as the outside looked nice. Wasnt impressed. Burger was bad greasy and bad flavor. Bun was old and dry. Fries overcooked. Barely ate any of it, came back to my room and had an apple and cheezeits instead. Staff were nice though. Not recommending you eat there.
