Dinner there last week was an absolute disaster. Ten minutes into being seated, we had not yet been offered water or drinks (had to flag down a hostess to request service). The lobster mac appetizer was a little bland but still OK. For an entree, I ordered a bone-in filet and requested their crab topping. This was hands down the worst cut of meat I've been served in years and perhaps ever. No kidding, it was as thick as a slice of bread - I regret not taking a picture to post. In addition, the crab topping was ice cold. I decided to send the steak back and skipped dinner altogether. I will concede that they were apologetic for our/my experience, which I do appreciate. With that said, I still take issue with the fact that the chef even allowed that steak to leave the kitchen. It's inexcusable.....

Zin and Sin is a great new entry into Tallahassee Cuisine that is a mix between upscale dining and trendy eatery without spending an arm and a leg. They are located on N. Monroe right across the street from Bruegger's Bagels. The parking lot is not real big, they do have complimentary Valet, but you probably would want to tip them if you use it. There are two entrances to the place and it is difficult to know which one is the dining entrance. The one we went it was actually the bar entrance and when you go around the corner it opens up into a mid-sized dining room. I had the the Duck French Dip and it was very good and a pretty big portion. There was a little bit of a wait for our meals, but you can tell they are cooking mostly everything to order and with care. The waiter was attentive and helped me with my order to specifications. After Dinner, I also tried one of their desserts which are mostly a combination of brownies, pie or cake. I had the Peanut Butter and Banana Cake and it was absolutely incredible. I imagine all there desserts are very good and even though it is about $9, they give you a huge portion and it is worth it IMO. If you want to go have a nice night out, get a drink and have a great meal and dessert, there aren't many better places here in Tallahassee. I hope they stay here a while.

Friendly staff, beautiful decor, and great food. I've been here about 5 times now and always have a great time with my girlfriend and our friends. I love the prime rib, the stuffed peppers, the pork tenderloin and all of the desserts that I have tried. The staff is very knowledgeable and happy(makes a huge difference in restaurants). The cocktails are similar to the ones found in Avenue downtown, but that's a good thing as they are delicious. Highly recommended here in town.

A real gem for the Tallahassee area. For the record, I wish I could give it 4.5 stars. Went here for my birthday dinner on a Wednesday and it was quiet and uncrowded. The decor and ambiance are nice. It's not stuffy or snooty like Mockingbird had the tendency to be. We were all wearing jeans, but I wouldn't roll in there in cut offs or a bathing suit. I don't think anyone would say anything but you'd certainly feel out of place. My party had the cornmeal crusted trout, the salmon, a seafood pasta dish, and pork tenderloin from their braised section. The wine sauce on the pork tenderloin was a little too thick and tasted a little bit too much like wine for me, but everything else including the pork itself was fantastic. Service was great as well. We did order desserts and they were hit or miss. All desserts are $10 which is worth it if you get a slice of cake, the portion is huge and the pineapple cake was delicious. The pie however is not worth the price tag, considering the size and that a slice of pecan pie didn't even come with ice cream. The pecan pie was also just okay, similar to something you'd make at home or get at Publix during Thanksgiving, so maybe it was a bad choice on my part. The full 'Sin' side wasn't open since it was a Wednesday, so maybe when it's in full operation the desserts are better. It wasn't enough to affect my review obviously. The menu is rather large and varies in price. They have appetizers and sandwiches/burgers that sound delicious and are priced rather competitively for the area. It seems if you tried you could either have an inexpensive OR pricey night out here depending on your mood which is nice.

I have now been to Zin's three times and all three times have been disappointed. I gave it one more chance and that's it. First visit- my wife and I went their opening weekend. Understandably they were busy and that was no prob. Waiter was great and went over the menu, food was the problem. I ordered what was considered to be one of their specials- the meatloaf. Was dry and tasted like the sauce was pure tomato paste poured over it. Also, tasted like meatloaf was sitting out for hours because it was very dry. My wife had the salmon which was nothing special. We thought we'd give them another chance. Visit two- we went back a month later and the waiter this time said they were out of about half of the items for the night? How does that happen. I ended up with the prime rib. It was ok. Quality of meat was good, but it was so bland. Manager came out and said to us they were still working the kinks out. Not encouraging to hear a month after they opened. He said they would get it right next time. Last night we gave them a third and final chance. It was a Saturday night at 845, the place was only a quarter filled. The wait staff there has always been good, want to make that clear. My wife placed an order for the pecan crusted chicken. Guess what...they were out of it! I was going to get a sandwich...they were out of it! We ended up getting a dessert. It took 30 minutes for a slice of cake. One of the managers came to tell us that the dessert side was packed, but it was coming. I asked, "how long does it take to plate a slice of cake?" He said it will be out shortly. This place has had three chances with us. Over priced, menu items running out, and not even that great of food is not worth another try in our books.

I have been in town for 2 1/2 weeks now and Zin & Sin has been on my radar the whole time. I finally had a chance to get inside last night. I called today and asked about reservations and they said to just come in. I chose to sit at the bar with Brittney working as bartender and server. The place is pretty fancy with dim lighting. The place looks like it is build well and the custom wood work is done right. The place was kind of empty cause it was Brittney and myself. We had some good conversation about restaurant life and food in general. It sounds like the girl could make a good helping hand in the kitchen. So the food I went with was from the apps/taster list. That's the easiest way to taste the different dishes hat this kitchen can put out. I got the Baked Apalachicola Oysters that consider of fresh spinach and their on smoked white cheddar. They had me at smoked. They were alright nothing real special. They were served in a escargot pan and were swimming in butter. Not a bad thing at all but it really took all the flavor out of the cheese. Next I went with the sausage stuffed poblanos with a pepper jack cheese and chopped tomatoes on top. The meal was small and very tasty in places. The atmosphere is sexy and good for a date night with the low lighting. I did find out that's what the owner wanted in this place. the place was also immaculately clean and Brittney was cleaning almost the whole time I was there. I do like this place and will return since I heard that another build out or 2 is in the near future.

Horrible management and very over priced. Went there with my whole family from out of town for my brother's graduation dinner. Ordered multiple appetizers and they were great. But, the entrees came up very short. My dad's trout was mushy and cold. My brother's flank steak was cold and was not worth the price. The worst one was my mom's salmon. It was way too salty and unedible. When we told our server, who was very nice and polite, she got the manager. The manager argued with my mom and was very rude. He claimed to have tried a bite of my mom's salmon and said that it was perfect and that she was wrong. He managed to piss off my entire family. No ounce of hospitality. We hate complaining about food and normally don't, but when the manager argued with us, that was the last straw. My family has been in the service industry for years and we know how to treat your customers even if they are wrong. Will never go there again. Ruined a night for us that should have been great. Felt really bad for the nice staff who has to work under such a horrible manager.

Very good all around. We had flank steak and salmon and peanut butter pie for desert! Good wine choices. Nice atmosphere.

I immediately knew I was underdressed when I noticed the valet out front. Don't make the same mistake I did, gents; throw on some slacks! Moving forward, Zin & Sin is a date night destination designed to elevate the dining experience. Although pricey, you definitely get your money's worth here. Zin, the restaurant piece of the puzzle, exemplifies contemporary cuisine with a jaw-dropping design. The ambient lighting, instrumental music and stunning artwork set a romantic mood. The service was splendid, courtesy of our soft-spoken, yet highly experienced waitress. She knew the menu inside and out, and when this occurs, it allows the diner to feel at ease. The meal was well-crafted and delicious to the last bite. Braised Chicken thighs aren't normally an upscale dish, yet I went ahead and ordered it. When I did the waitress whispered, "My favorite dish on the menu." What a relief! It was prepared in an apple cider and thyme reduction with roasted potatoes and bourbon-glazed carrots. All the flavors melded together quite well. My only complaint would be that bone-in meats are difficult to eat, especially while in an elegant restaurant. You don't want to be THAT GUY who eats off the bone with his hands. If I remember correctly, it doesn't say the chicken thighs are prepared "bone-in." (Correct me if I'm wrong). There was a slight hiccup with our meal when our food was brought to us. They accidentally prepared the wrong vegetarian dish for my girlfriend. Instead of pasta, they prepared a baked bread concoction. The waitress was very remorseful and the kitchen remade the dish in a timely manner. The General Manager approached us and sent us his deepest apologies. Hiccups aside, the vegetarian pasta arrived with succulent eggplant and spinach. The sauce wasn't traditional by any means, but it was luxurious. The GM guided us for a bit of a tour of the bar and Sin (the dessert parlor) after our meal. He mentioned that they plan to expand the building, in hopes of providing live music and banquet events. He went ahead and apologized yet again for the slight hiccup and thanked us for dining with them. Zin & Sin provides a carefully planned menu and a chic atmosphere that will bring me back for another visit. If yelp gave half stars, it would probably receive four and a half from me, but after this visit, I'll leave it at four, with hopes to update in the near future. Contemporary and elegant, Zin & Sin delivers a surefire win.

Tried the pork sliders. Could of used some more pork on them to be honest. Hardly tasted anything but bread. Service was very kind and attentive. May go back .... I do love the decor. They really improved and opened up this layout.

Great food & Great company. I've tried several restaurants in Tallahassee and this is the best by far! I chose to sit in the bar area. My waiter/bartender Stacy was fantastic. His attention to detail and making the customer happy is worth coming back for all by itself. The prime rib was excellent and the pecan pie was a perfect ending to a great dinner. I'll be sure to go back!

We went for dinner last week for the first time, & it was very good. Friendly bartenders and good drinks while we waited for our table. We had reservations and had a bit of a wait (20 minutes +) for our table to open up. Not too big of a deal, but we were hungry - the wait was worth it, though. Appetizers were delicious - we had the cured meats and pickled veggies and amazing thin sliced blue marlin (carpaccio I think) - both excellent! Steak with a lobster sauce of some kind was delicious! Seafood over pasta was also great. Braised chicken thighs were very good, as was the salmon. Desserts were big enough to share - cheesecake was yummy and the peanut butter banana cake was good - not amazing, except for the little crunchy bacon brittle things (yum - could have just eaten a bowl of those!) All in all , a nice experience.

I went to Zin and Sin for a girl's night with some friends several months ago, and am still rolling the taste delights on my tongue. This location used to be the Mockingbird Cafe and has been reinvented as a lounge, restaurant, and dessert restaurant. Oh my. We were seated by the hostess in a pleasant dining area and our waiter promptly greeted us. He was delightful, well-trained, and very attentive the whole evening. All three of us opted for soup and salad. The prices were moderately expensive, but the offerings were fresh and delicious. I had the prime rib soup with portobello mushroom, and a salad of baby greens with mushrooms and the house dressing. The soup was both delicate and hearty at the same time, and perfectly seasoned. The salad had fresh baby spring greens and was lightly dressed and served on a chilled plate. Everything was wonderful. We were full, but when we got a look at the dessert menu, we had to go take a look at the dessert restaurant. The choices were almost overwhelming. Warning, the desserts are expensive, but the portion is huge. I chose the Peppermint Patty Cake. My girlfriend had the apple pie. It took me three days to eat all of the cake slice that I got. The cake was a dark chocolate peppermint cake, with a solid peppermint middle, and dark chocolate glaze on the top. The apple pie is loaded with thinly sliced apples, warmed and served with a scoop of ice cream. Zin also has a wonderful selection of wines and our server knew his wines. We had a wine selection with our dinner, and the evening was complete. This place is a go-to for a dress-up dinner, special occasion, special date, or just for dessert. I will definitely be going back to taste more of the chef's offerings and the pastry chef's fare. Win-win.

Great desert menu, plenty to choose from for those with a sweet tooth and those without. The lobster mac & cheese was a generous portion, enough to share for two.

So glad I gave this place a try. It is only open for dinner right now, but they are thinking of expanding to lunch as well. Everyone is so friendly and eager for you to have a great experience. I hope they last . . . it is a tad on the high end for Tallahassee. I brought some clients for dinner last night after having drinks at the bar last month. The wine by the bottle list is decent and priced right. We started with the fried cheese, they melt in your mouth. The list of starters made it hard to choose so next time I will try something else. We got a bowl of the creamy onion soup to share and it was also a hit . . . we just had to taste it so only had a few spoonfuls. Could be a good lunch option when they open for lunch paired with a salad or soup. There are a lot of entree choices and sandwiches too . . . vegetarians and carnivores delight in the choices. I had the pecan encrusted trout with crawfish gravy, cheese grits and green beans . . . it was a huge portion and I couldn't stop eating it. Everything was amazing. My friend got strip steak with veggies and mashed potatoes and loved every bite. We heard the desserts were over the top so we glanced at the dessert menu and the options were plentiful and made out mouths water. We decided on PB Banana Cake. Our server was quick to say others have mentioned the banana flavor is not strong, we were ok with this. We left smiling ear to ear and talked to the manager about having a private event there. Can't wait to go back. Enjoy!!
