This place is a bit hard to find but the food was great, we were traveling to Jacksonville Florida, to watch the daughter compete. Anyway we were running late and wanted some good local food. The Yelp reviews had us hooked.. But they closed at 9 it was 845 pm and we were still 20 to 25 min away. We called and asked if we could make a ph order for dune in and explained our situation. They were more than happy to accommodate us. The food was great esp the Yucca fries...

Bottom line: the tacos here are great; probably the best overall that you can get in Tallahassee. The good: - Service is fairly quick considering the quality of the food items -The food is quite good. The flavors/combos available are interesting but simple and the menu isn't overwhelming. - The salsa available in the salsa bar is excellent The meh: - Seating inside is pretty cramped; like they put a couple of tables too many, but the space is quite small. If the weather is nice sit outside or get it to go. - Things are a *tad* on the pricey side for what is, ultimately, a counter-service taco joint. The portions are adequate, but again a *tad* small for the money. Throwing in a few more chips on the side wouldn't hurt, especially since the salsa is so good.

The best chicken and cheese quesadilla in town. Incredible. Very friendly staff and awesome owner. Taco Tuesdays as well as 10% off for college students on Thursdays.

Perhaps Tallahassee's premier taco stand. They fix you a great taco, then let you add your own garnish. Grab a beer and have your fill. Good yucca, too. Fantastic joint!

Delicious tacos in the heart of Midtown. Pricing is great, definitely casual dining at its best. It's a small, chill restaurant where you order and pay, get a number, and your delicious food is brought to you. The 'El Bufalo' and 'Carne Santana' tacos are my favorites, though I've never been disappointed.

Fast fresh food, great service and the opportunity to sit outside and watch the world go by in the heart of Midtown. Locally raised owners and really good food. I'm a vegan and I can eat here with ease, and soak in all of my carnivore friends. :-) I'm picky about my salsa verde and this is one of the best in town.

Very cool spot, a fun menu, the friendliest owner, and delicious food. No, it is not cheap by taco stand standards, but the quality is amazing, and 3 tacos will absolutely fill you up.

I spontaneously stopped into Taco Republik for a quick first-time bite last night, and was greeted by welcoming staff and a clean, tidy atmosphere, which are both especially refreshing to see an hour before closing time. There's a super cool mural covering the wall that customers see when first walking in, followed by a chalk board menu and salsa bar. Everything is laid out very simply in a way that is equal parts creative and effective. The restaurant was relatively slow, quiet, and dim, which made for a relaxing experience. I was taken care of by a gentleman who seemed to be an owner or manager. He was polite and helpful, informing me that students receive 10% off on Thursdays. I ordered the James Camarones, a specialty taco, which came with tortilla chips (that were quite salty but crispy and delicious.) The meal cost less than $5. The food was absolutely excellent: the lightly fried shrimp offered a savory balance to the sweet chili lime aioli and black bean mango salsa. The warm, soft tortilla was so inviting that I forgot to take a photo before inhaling it. It is worth noting that one of the employees allowed a customer to come inside and order JUST as she was about to turn on the "closed" sign. The same employee also approached my table, offering my boyfriend and friend some chips to eat while they watched me feast (they had already eaten dinner and politely joined me on full stomachs.) Since the creation of my Yelp account last week, I've felt a looming pressure to write an unbiased first review for a place that I genuinely enjoyed and would 100% recommend. I've only heard great things about Taco Republik, and regret that it took so long for me to finally experience it for myself.

So we went here passing through Tallahassee looking for something that was not so commercialized, but I was not overly impressed. Yes the food is fresh, the staff is friendly, the service wad fast enough... But the overall experience and food was just O.K. If I was asked to go here again I would decline and look for a Moe's or Chipotle insisted

My first visit to the establishment. Greeted upon entry, and handed a menu. Ordered the James Camarones shrimp tacos, and chips and guacamole. The host recommended the guacamole, and it dos not disappoint. Good service, tasty tacos! The chips were served hot and fresh, and the guacamole was outstanding! Very fresh and tasty. Loved it! They had one beer on tap, a local brew 850 from Proof Brewing. I love the fact that they have a local brew, but was disappointed in Ll the other selections. If there were better beer selections, I would have rated a five. I will definitely visit here in the future.

Really like the space and the patio is great for people watching along with several other restaurants bars and shops. I wish Tally didn't have all the areas in strip malls but hey they're trying. Food was pretty good fresh ingredients. My fave was the fish taco, the ground beef had a weird sauce that didn't match and chicken taco was ok. Liked the salsa bar and the plaza it was located in Sit outside and drink eat and people watch Visiting friends and checking out the hotspots of Tally. Without good view only would rate a 3

I like Taco Republik for its variety and interesting combination of ingredients to make unique tacos. It's definitely not authentic Mexican food, but it does the trick for tacos if you're in the mood. There are several standard style tacos like cartitas, steak, chicken, and pork, but TR also has some other specialty tacos which are really tasty (but more expensive). My personal favorites are the Carne Santana and the Taj.0, which is Tandoori chicken and yogurt sauce. There's also a nice salsa bar at the restaurant which is pretty fresh. TR says their hot salsa is pretty spicy but I find it really tame honestly. Getting three tacos will probably run you around $10-$12, which is more expensive than other taco joints in the area where you can get the same number of tacos for half the price. If you're looking for authentic Mexican, this probably isn't your place, but if you're looking for satisfying, flavorful and interesting taco/burrito combinations, TR is a good pick in Tallahassee.

We hit these guys right at closing time, but that didn't phase them a bit. Exceptional service and a nice spin on the expanding world of the taco. Of the four plates, the biggest cheers were for the fish tacos and the Singapore street tacos. Fried yucca was expertly done with a crisp outer shell and melt in your mouth center. Guacamole was voted as exceptional. The only hitch was that our plates came out in three rounds. It was several minutes between those on the top of the food chain and those on the bottom. Improve the timing and this was a five star experience for an enjoyable little taco shack.

If this place was close to my college when I was in school I would probably frequent Taco Republik. It's quick. They have a pretty nice salsa station which toppings for the chips that come with your tacos. I ordered 1 shrimp taco and 1 steak taco. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND the shrimp taco. Yeah it was pretty good! Overall this place is definitely not fancy by any means, but quick and to the point.

There guac tastes fresh and ginger tacos are awesome. They're a bit pricier than other Mexican places but still worth the treat every once in a while. Also really loud but there weren't that many people...strange. Overall great place though and can't wait to return!

The staff is always so friendly and their chicken tacos are AMAZING and crazily addicting. Definitely the place in town to get nachos.

Absolutely the best yuca fries in Tallahassee!!! Also very accommodating to individuals with Celiacs disease. My wife has Celiacs and orders gluten free here. They are knowledgable and she has never gotten sick. We LOVE the house tacos (all of them!) they're fresh, flavorful and filled nicely. Super yummy. The sangria isn't the best, though. Definitely suggest revisiting that recipe. And the prices are just slightly too high, in my very honest opinion. But I definitely appreciate the quality. This certainly won't stop us from coming back. Excellent customer service. :) great location! We're forever customers. You keep serving 'em, and we will keep buying 'em!

A taco joint worth five stars? No hesitation, 100% yes! Taco Republik serves gourmet tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos and side items that are fresh and delicious. During my most recent visit, I pigged out on Carne Santana (grilled flank steak) and Pablo Pescado (lightly fried Mahi) tacos and an order of yucca fries (Latin root, a distant cousin of a french fry). It's obvious the cooks possess a strong attention to detail. The steak was tender and juicy, while not over-coked. Pickled red onions and maybe a lime, cilantro cream sauce balanced well and blatantly watered my mouth. The Mahi had a great crisp and the Asiany slaw was the creme de la creme. The tacos are served with colorful chips, which were crunchy and salted appropriately. MUST: make sure to acquaint yourself with the sauce bar. The mild sauce was fresh, acidic and filled with chopped white onion. But then there's the verde sauce. Wow, this salsa was addictive. It had a great tang, a kind that wakes up your taste buds. Then, the yucca fries. Oh good heavens, I'm a diehard fan. These may be superior to french fries? Hmm. All I know is they were soft and chewy, but still crisp enough that you were able to bite through them. Paired with a garlicy, chipotle based sauce, holy toledo, these were out of bounds. And on top of all of the taco goodness, the service was friendly and timely. They offer local, Proof beer on tap (always a plus). Cleanliness is also a priority as the store is spotless from top to bottom. Taco Republik has outside seating as well. With a prime location in the heart of midtown, it's hard not visit multiple times a week. Keep calm and taco on.

Ate here for the first time today and was really, really pleased. But also kinda annoyed I've lived here for almost a year and never had one of their tacos. I went with two steak tacos (Santana something). Boyfriend got chicken quesadilla and we shared tostones. ($21 all together). We both filled up on tostones and left with boxes of food, I would have been fine with one taco and some tostones. The sauce that accompanies the tostones is KILLER and the tostones themselves have a great texture. My tacos were the best ones I've had in Tallahassee. The pickled veggies really elevated the meat and I added a little extra cilantro. My boyfriends quesadilla was my favorite though - the huge chunks chicken is spicy and flavorful. I'll be back in like, a week. So darn good.

Fantastic. Really. A simple menu with near-perfect execution of the dishes. No brain-teases here. As the moniker implies, primary focus is on the tacos here - although the diner may opt for quesadillas or burritos as well. the menu is already discussed in other reviews, and evident in the photos - so no need to go on and on about it here. This is a counter-service restaurant with self-serve beverages, salsa bar, and an extensive collection of hot sauces that cover a good range. You order, get a number - and your dishes are delivered to the table (inside/outside eating) quic We ordered guacamole with tortilla chips, Yucca fries, a veggie-burrito and the Pablo Pescado, Carne Santana & James Camarones trio. Here's the run-down: Guac - really good. tasted as though it was made-to-order. very flavorful and no sign of anything other than freshness. Yucca fries - very likely the best I've ever had because of the "just-right" time in the fryer as well as the tempura-like batter. truly what Plato himself may have had in mind when he thought of Fried Yucca. Veggie Burrito - just that, except it stayed together well - and wasn't too dry/wet. it was what you'd want. Fish, Meat and Shrimp tacos were as good as the photos indicate. prepared thoughtfully and very tasty. This is the first boutique taco-stand in town that I can think of. Everything else is either from a "Mexican" restaurant, a REAL Mexican restaurant (e.g., "La Tiendita") or a food truck (great stuff, just not boutique-y). It's the only one of its kind, but I suspect we'll be seeing more open in short order.

Absolutely excellent tacos. I LOVE a taco with interesting topping options like pickled red onions, spicy curry sauce, or black bean mango salsa, and Taco Republik has them all. Great place to sit outside, grab a cold beer or 5, and munch on some fabulous tacos. Gorgeous chalk paint mural inside depicting a Seminole Indian, that as an FSU fan, I adore. Affordable and awesome for any taco fan!

Food is good and service could have been better. Like the dishes. Enjoyed it but few minor things. It was raining. Liked the tacos. Will visit again pretty soon. Will be trying few more restaurants this week as I am in town for shorter trip.

I would say that this is one of the better taco places I went to in Tally. Recommended my a new friend and it is on the top 5 list on Yelp. I was heading out of town and needed some food for the road. After all if you don't eat now it's all garbage from here to the east coast. Well the place is kind of small but I do like the decor. Modern something or other. There's a lot of cool looking old wood. No doubt re-claimed maybe even old pallets. The menu is on a big blackboard above the sales counter. A few tacos, burritos, and quesadillas with different meats. I went with a couple of flank steaks and a carnitas tacos. They all came on flour tortillas and all the dressings. The steak was tender which is almost unheard of. The cumin mayo was a nice flare to this one. Now the carnitas were really good. Seasoned very nicely and again the dressing was pure genius. The service was good and the music was also just to my liking. In all it is a little out of the way but well worth the trip here.

Pescatarian speaking - I'm not a big fan. Fish and Shrimp tacos are just too much batter. Tofu taco is great but overall its a pricy joint when 3 tacos and a beer rings you in at $20 bucks.

Fried Yucca was good..the sauce is the best! Had nachos with beef that were really good as well!

I've only eaten at Taco Republik during lunch breaks from work, and I grant that that fact might color my experience. TR is an oasis from my work-a-day world, and I truly appreciate the quality of food and service. One should not come to TR seeking authentic food of any sort, but TR excels at something that is truly American: it takes an ethnic food and makes it better by making it less healthy. I can in particular recommend the James Camerones (shrimp) and buffalo chicken tacos. My only gripes would be that the guacamole, while delicious, is overpriced for what you get, imho. But TR gets 4 stars in my book and I will be returning many times in the days to come, I am sure.

Yummy tacos. Not too bad of a price. Tacos come with chips and there is a salsa bar. The verde salsa was some of the best I've tried!

  • Stella M.

This place is definitely not authentic Mexican, which I'm sure you get by looking at the menu, but it was pretty good. I ordered the Seminole chop'ped salad. The ingredients were fresh but I don't like salads that are made from iceberg lettuce. Good portions for the price but it was pretty mediocre overall. My husband ordered the buffalo tacos and they were okay. They were pretty creamy but not bad. We also ordered the yucca fries. They were also only mediocre. Pretty starchy and the cilantro they garnished them with was not very fresh. What I did like was their salsa and hot sauce bar. They have several hot sauces to choose from! Their salsa was pretty good too. Tasted very fresh. Their salsa bar also has fresh pickled jalapeño, radish, and carrots! Definitely made the experience much more fun.

Love this place. We knew about it from friends, and kept trying to go, but since it's across town we couldn't seem to make it. Suffice to say, once we tried it we suddenly found it a lot easier to make the time to go. In fact we'll make a special trip just to go. I generally get the taco trio with one chicken, one beef, and one carnitas. I save the pork for last. It's so good, so fresh and so amazing that I think about it later and start to plan when we can go back! The hubby generally goes for the specialty tacos and sings the praise of the shrimp and buffalo chicken tacos. The staff is friendly and courteous. Make sure you check out the giant wall with chalkboard art!

Amazing gourmet tacos. Everything here is fresh and delicious. I've had the chicken tacos and the James Camarones shrimp tacos. Both are very tasty. The salsa is great and tastes fresh and the queso is to die for. You might want to share it though as you get quite a bit of it. Good prices and a good location, too!

If you need some great tacos in Tallahassee, then this is the place to go. I highly recommend their carnita steak tacos. Their queso is great as well. The burritos are awesome, too. They're constantly coming up with innovative specials. The staff is very friendly, too.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
