I'm so irritated with Latin Xpress right now. Idk why they ADVERTISE that they deliver because they never flipping do. I'm bed ridden with the flu so clearly I'm not feeling too well today. I just wanted my cafesito & tostada delivered. Is that too much to ask? I called and complained about their delivery & asked when they actually DID deliver. I said that everytime I called them & asked for delivery, they said they weren't delivering at that time (which is true. This has happened to me before) and they said mainly only in the morning. They open at 11. It's freaking 12 PM UGHHHHH. The lady on the phone asked the guy that I suppose does the deliveries if he was delivering right now & he apathetically said no. I heard the entire conversation. OH WELL. Their loss. They just lost a customer because I sure as hell am not gonna get my sick behind up to deal with their rudeness. Their cafe con leche and tostadas are on point so I'm a little sad about not getting that. I'd be even sadder if they served sopita to help me feel better...but they don't so eff them. Moral of the story, don't count on Latin Xpress for delivery. Rant over :)

I've eaten here for lunch three or four times and once for dinner. Lunch has been great every time, dinner not so much. The roast pork(lechon) is tremendous. I'm a native of south Florida and have had the luxury of dining on some great, authentic Cuban cuisine. That being said, the pork at Latin Xpress takes a backseat to no other Cuban restaurant that I've been to. The sides are also fantasic...boiled yuca with garlic sauce was delicious as well as the perfectly cooked maduros(sweet plantains). Most Cuban restaurants tend to over cook the plantains but not here. I also have tried the Cuban sandwich which was also excellent. My only negative experience was when I ate there for dinner. The portion of pork was about a third of what it normally is for lunch, and the service wasn't up to par. The menu is also a bit limited, but everything I've tried has been very good. If you want authentic Cuban food for lunch, give it a try. The pastries are also made in house and are delicious(guava and cheese). The owner was very friendly and makes you feel at home. I hope they can straighten out their dinner service. Once again, GREAT ROAST PORK!

Four stars in class. Food is knowingly prepared. Owners have a keen attention to detail. Cuban classics available (first time I've seen an Elena Ruiz on the menu outside of Miami-land. Wifey ordered Cuban today - I went with a nicely presented bistec a la Milanesa. Ordered fried AND boiled Yuca to split. Colada along with pastelitos to wrap up. One downside (for Meredith) is absence of unsweetened tea. You're gonna have that from time to time... Huge upside: Cuban breakfast!

Best Cuban place I have found so far in Tallahassee. I am from Miami so from time to time I crave cuban food. It can't compare to Miami but its still pretty good. Only thing is I think for the quality the price is a bit expensive. And that sometimes I have a hard time finding parking/getting out of the parking lot.

Terrible service and terrible food. The staff were unprofessional. My side of beans had two random pieces of meat in it. The server said that rice was no longer included with dishes "because this place went under and the new management was doing everything they can to cut corners and save on costs". I guess the cost of rice is simply TOO DAMN HIGH these days. Perhaps I went in at a bad time. But I will never return.

#Tallahassee #FSU : Cuban food without the flair or flavor. I was very disappointing by just about all facets of my meal. Service, pricing and food was all below average. I lived in Miami and my wife is Latin, this place would stay open for a month in Tampa or South Florida. The server forgot 5 or 6 items/parts of our order. They were out of 3 different menu items and the pricing came to over 10 bucks a person, when all we did was order several sides and drinks. Stay away! In a town like Tallahasse you have enough options that skipping this place should be of no concern.

The food here is as close as it's going to get to those little cafe's in Miami where you can get all of the Cuban food your heart desires. I am a Miami native and I was delighted to finally find good Cuban food. The prices are just right and hey, I was excited to fianlly have Pan con Bistec (steak sandwich) and Pollo a la Plancha con Morro y Frijoles (Grilled Chicken with rice, beans and Plantains). The food is great! Very good seasoning, very close to what I would get at home, only their bread for the steak sandwich coudl use a little work. Really my main issue with this place is how in the heck are you only going to have one waitress for 8 tables? She was constantly moving, and it was really busy for lunch but it took quite awhile for me and my mom to receive any sort of service. If tehy hired another wait person this review would be completely different. I think i'm going to start ordering takeout though and enjoying my delicious food at home.

It has been over a year since I have had authentic Cuban food. The reason is that I am extremely picky. I didn't think I would find Cuban food this good without going back to Miami. I had the pan con bistec, a ham croquette, tostones, rice n beans, Cafe con leche, and a guava and cheese pastelito. It was phenomenal! they get the bread from Tampa, but the way it taste you would think they just baked it. Don't expect any Gordos frozen crap, this is the real deal. The service was good and the owner was friendly. My friend had the pollo a la plancha. He said he could tell the chicken was fresh and tasted great, and he loved the beans and rice. I would definitely suggest this place to any college students from Miami who feel homesick, or anyone looking for authentic Cuban food.

First time here a couple of days ago and I like it, but I really wanted to love it. I read the other mixed reviews which prompted me to make one of my own and to have my own unique experience, but it was frankly disappointing. To sum it up, I guess my main gripe is the lack of passion in the food. The people there was nice and friendly and the food came out quick, but it felt like fast food. As first-timers, we ordered the special of the day. I forgot what it was called but it was basicaly marinated and cooked sliced beef with peppers, tomato, onions, and potatoes. Simple, and easy right? The flavors were there but the beef (the special of the day) was room temp and luke warm. The rice and beans were hot but they came separately and in microwavable bowls, which was a little on the nose for me. We kindly asked them to heat up the food and they did, and it was obvious they popped it in a microwave. Like I said, my first time, so I feel bad for being so nit-picky but the place really gave me a good feeling and it really sucks to be in a place, that at least for that one day, didn't have passion.

Excellent food and the coffee is worth the trip! Quaint family operated hidden gem. I had the sampler plate and everything was delicious but the empanadas was exceptional. The pork, black bean and rice was very flavorful. Their house made green cilantro sauce is good on everything! So happy we have access to good family style Cuban food without trekking down to Miami. Very friendly staff.

This place needs more reviews. Being a native of Miami this is as close as you can get to Cuban Food. Yeah Gordo's is good but this hole in the wall is more savory and closer to Cuban Food. I always get the Pan con Bistec and Tostones to go with it. It is a big meal which means you can save half of it and have it again and it still tastes good the second time around.

Admittedly my opinion is based on just one visit, so either the place was just having an abnormally bad day or hopefully its improved significantly since I've been there. First, I had to request 3 items before what I wanted was available. Even the daily special was sold out, yet the special was still advertised on the menu board. When I finally got what I ordered, I remember thinking I wish they were out of that as well because it was terrible. Nothing was authentic tasting, and I lived in Miami for 8 years so I know that of which I speak. Maybe a return trip will change my mind, but my experience was so bad, I can't bring myself to go again. Good luck and beware if you do. Finally, I had lunch there with a friend who is Cuban-American. His opinion was the same as mine.

Awesome authentic cuban food at a great price.. It's not top notch but for college town fast food you can't get any better. I ALWAYS get the shredded pork w/ yellow rice and black beans and a side of sweet plantains. Highly recommended!

OMG FREAKING AMAZING. This place is legit, the people that work here are sooo sweet. Everything was soo tasty, from the milkshakes to the plantains and the beans and rice were *perfection*. I want to eat here every day, it definitely makes me homesick. Do yourself a favor and EAT HERE!

I am conflicted, you guys, I really am. I want to like this place, I TRULY do but they make it SO HARD! Like most have said, it was a top-notch place and my go-to for authentic Cuban food before the new management. Nowadays, I've had pretty terrible service and - dare I say it - even food! One notable time I was there recently, our poor server was clearly new and didn't know any of the dishes I mentioned by name - totally forgivable as she was clearly trying her best. I asked for the "special of the day" that was advertised on a handwritten whiteboard only to be told they didn't have it. Uhm, okay, what? Why not just wipe it off the board then? So I order a papa rellena (ground beef stuffed potato) as my appetizer and another entree. My papa rellena comes out FROZEN on the inside. Seeing as how I don't want to eat frozen ground beef, I kindly mention it to the server and send it back. This is where it gets good - and by good I mean stomach-churning. The manager, a lady dressed in a full royal blue suit, storms back into the kitchen and SCREAMS at the cook at the top of her lungs. Disgusted, I immediately regret my decision to mention anything at all and decide to speak to her about how to treat her staff as soon as she comes out. The food takes 30 minutes to come out when I was already supposed to be in class so I had no choice but to ask for it to be packed in a to-go container. What's worse is that when this poor excuse of a manager finally comes out and I am ready to give her a piece of my mind, she plops down on one of the chairs and strikes up a phone conversation as if NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. All in front of the paying customer. I was shocked, I've never witnessed such a thing and I truly do hope that their wonderful server can find a new job. It's a real shame, especially because this place was home away from home under their old management.

Honestly for a Sunday morning after a game night, this shop was underperforming. There was 1 hostess for 6 tables and she seemed aloof, unorganized and spacey. She didn't even write down our orders and messed up how I wanted my eggs cooked, but I was so ravenous by the time (after exhaustingly waiting) came out - I ate it anyway. It took our waitress 10 minutes to bring us our waters (when there were only 3 tables) then us reminding her to bring our cafe con leche 15 minutes later. Our food came out almost room temperature but seemingly rushed out. I had to remind our waitress about my side dish and she forgot and didn't even check on us after she delivered my food to see if I got my side dish. I much rather go to Super Perros or take the time myself to cook Latino food. All I can say is increase customer service, staff more waitresses and expect hungry students the morning after game day! Never again.
