We tried this place out for the first time because the wait at Bonefish Grille was ludicrous (bang bang shrimp Wednesday). We had a short wait of about 20 minutes and were promptly seated. I ordered three different rolls. I saw some previous yelp pictures of the rolls and they looked like they were decently sized, but in reality they aren't. They were the smallest rolls I have ever seen -- probably only a sliver of fish and a tiny bit of rice per roll. Not worth the $6-6.95 they each cost. I left hungry after spending about $30 that night. The plus side was that Julie was a great server.

This is the new Kiku #2 basically in town. I believe the owner owns the other kiku and the 2 hasu restaurants in town. Basically a local chain restaurant. So if you have been to the other kiku or hasu restaurant you know how the food quality/taste it/portion size/presentation, etc. This place is exactly like the other kiku in town on thomasville from interior design with modern decor like etched glass walls and tvs fused with traditional Japanese decor like at the sushi bar area. This place feels brighter lit though. Overall design wise very similar. As for the food, its the same exact menu as the other Kiku and the bogo sushi deal (few exceptions like tempura rolls are $1 more). I think they have the same happy hour deals here also. The beverages they offer are the same also. If you want to see about the food reviews its probably best to refer to the other kiku comments and see what others people have to say since this place is exactly alike and I am the only comment on this page for now and don't have time to write a really long comment explaining everything over (sorry!) Overall, its another kiku. Same quality, interior decor, etc. Only difference is this kiku is on the FSU side of town. *Note: Currently the location of this kiku on the map is correct BUT the address underneath the map location is not. This Kiku is located at 800 ocala rd. not on thomasville rd (that is the address of the original kiku)

Great selection and great tasting food! Definitely recommended Kiku if you love sushi!!

The best sushi you'll find in Tallahassee. Buy a roll, get one free is a neat promo they run. Service was timely and rolls were delicious, though slightly pricier than other sushi in the area. Recommend: Beauty and the Beast - you get what you pay for Avoid: the spider roll, portion is small, and not as tasty as any other restaurants' spider rolls. A bummer for sure.

"The best sushi in Tally"? I only read the first few reviews. The only reason the get two stars is for the QUALITY of the food served. The place looks very nice and is kept clean. The food however, was disappointing and expensive. The service was very slow. My appetizer was very small for the price. It took 15 minutes for it to come out which was even more disappointing since it was a dish that seemed like they pulled it from the fridge. Almost ever roll contained tempura in one form or another, even my hand roll came with tempura flakes. (I'm not a huge fan of tempura or fried foods) That being said I am confident the fish they use is very high quality, just poorly prepared. I would say its safe to eat here, if you don't mind being price gouged. So many people say this is the best sushi in Tally, that means I should probably steer clear of sushi while I'm in town. I will not be returning.

When every order is prepared from scratch, it takes time. Even knowing that, someimes the service is panfully slow. But it is always worth the wait. The Sushi rolls are beautiful. They are fresh, beautifully presented and worth every penny. The servers are always pleasant and efficient. It is my favorite sushi place in town

My favorite sushi place in tallahassee. I've been disappointed with sushi in this city, especially since we're close to the ocean. But by tallahassee standards, this sushi is good. We ordered to go (so we couldn't get the buy one get one deal). A New York roll, a yellowtail scallion roll and a beauty and the beast. The first two rolls are tiny, but I like that because I dont have the try to cut the roll in half just to get it in my mouth. The beauty and the beast was $16, which seemed over priced, and probably was, but it was REALLY good. If you get the BOGO, it would make the price more tolerable. I'm just relieved that if I have a sushi craving, at least there is one decent option.

Usually have great experiences here. However, when they get busy they seem very understaffed. Walked out when my family and I sat with empty glasses for 15 minutes. Watched the tables around us (who came in after us) get their appetizers and entrees. My mother asked three times for the waitress to check on our order. We watched her, she didn't. Have no problem waiting for the sushi (we know it takes time) but we felt ignored and avoided. We suspect she forgot to put our order in, but neglected to tell us.

Great sushi bar right next to Bonefish. Not a great location in an old shopping center. Sushi at Kiku was recommended by a nurse while my dad was ill. She said it was her favorite so I tried it. It was very good!! I was very pleased with the menu and specials. Been back several times. Bento boxes are also really good. Locals used to be my Yelp. I haven't tried any other sushi in Tally but I can recommend Kiku without hesitation :) It was recommended by locals, felt clean, fish tasted fresh, lots of interesting flavors, service was great, not too bad on price.

The ocean wave maki is the best sushi I have ever had. Pair it with the Bahamas roll and it can't be beat!

We are regulars at Kiku. Both lunch and dinner are awesome. At lunch, you can get three sushi rolls plus salad and soup for about $11 each. And you can get BOGO on the fancier sushi rolls any time. The sushi at Kiku is consistent and delicious, and the service is typically good as well.

I had Sushi here. It's really good. We went on Sunday afternoon around 3 PM. They have nice deals on that day. I got two sushi entrees for price of one. And waitress (Bonitha) is really cool. She gave us enough time to check out the menu and Recommended some items. From outside its look like small restaurant but the ambiance is really good. Sure, I am returning to this place for more Sushi.

What a pleasant surprise. This was our first time for sushi in Tallahassee. We were blown away! The service was outstanding, the food was crazy good, and the place was spotless!! You could eat off the floor!!! On my top 5 of all time sushi joints. I eat sushi all over the southeast twice a week. Very happy. We had the fire dragon roll, the candy bar and the butterfly. All out of this world. Eat at this joint! You will not be disappointed. I promise. Fish bait-

Been here on many occasions. Food has been great but recently it's gone just a tad bit downhill for me. The sushi didn't seem to taste as fresh. Maybe it was just that day in particular. The spider roll (which was my favorite side roll) has been raised in price and they seem smaller. Who knows, maybe they were just small on that particular day. But on the days where it has been good, it's been real good. I like to start off with their calamari. Very delicious. I forget the name of the rolls i've tried but they were all pretty decent.

We just tried Kiku for dinner while on vacation. It was one of the top 5 sushi experiences we have had. First, the restaurant has great atmosphere. The lighting is perfect, and you get to watch the sushi chefs in the back of the restaurant. The tables are lovely as well. Our server was extremely sweet, efficient, and accomodating. We had the crazy maki rolls. They were specialty rolls, and we would HIGHLY recommend them. They literally melted in your mouth. They're also running a special. When you buy one order of chef's specialty rolls, you get an order of the simpler rolls for free. My Husband and I were reasonably full on the one order of sushi rolls and the order of free rolls. We also got the tempura ice cream with red bean ice cream. Absolutely delicious. You must give Kiku a try. You won't be disappointed.

I was introduced to this place by a friend who comes here for the 2 for 1 sushi rolls deal. With their lunch special you can get 3 rolls, soup, and salad for around $11. I wasn't expecting much because of the low price but I was definitely surprised. The quality of the sushi was better than most I've eaten. The portions are good, not too much rice and a good amount of tuna in their spicy tuna rolls. I come here every time I'm in town not just because it's cheap but the sushi is damn good. My recommendations: spicy tuna and tempura shrimp rolls.

When it comes to Sushi, you must be cautious of infectious diseases associated with raw fish, such as Anisakis simplex . Thus, rating a sushi restaurant must take into account fresh, clean produce over some other minor amenities. Therefore, based on all Tallahassee Fl, sushi restaurants/bars, I choose only Kiku Sushi restaurant! It's currently my FAV restaurant. The restaurant gets very busy; for that reason, it may appear "small." But remember, the best things in life come in small packages.

Hands down....best sushi ever!! My husband and I went for the first time last night after some friends recommend it. It is the best we have had. The food was very fresh! The chef specials are great. The service was awesome. Overall, we were very impressed and will go back soon!!

My boyfriend and I eat here as often as possible. The sushi is delicious and beautiful. The buy one get one free deal is great, but the food is so good that we would be more than happy to pay full price. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive. I'm pretty sure that we've tried every place in town, and Kiku is our favorite by far. We would give Kiku ten stars if we could!

My husband and I went to Kiku on a Sunday. He ordered Beef Yakisoba. I ordered the Ten-Don (Shrimp & Veggie Tempura served over rice). The food was DELICIOUS, but the portion size for the price we paid didn't seem right. As far as service, the waitress we had wasn't very friendly. She also didn't seem to know much about the food on their menu. I guess we came in at the end of her shift, so when we finished our meal, she abruptly asked for the check and just left us, even though we were still sitting down.

The fish here is fresh and prepared with pride. What more can you say to complement a sushi place? I gorged on the Snow tuna, the Toro, squid, and a lovely roll the sushi chef made for me with toro and snow tuna. It was very satisfying evening, we sat at the bar, and had a very lovely conversation with the sushi chef. The decor and overall atmosphere of the place could use some work, but I'm not one to complain. Best sushi in Tallahassee!

  • Mary B.

Wow. Seriously wow. My friends have been gushing about this place since it opened and after finally eating here I was not disappointed. Good sushi is hard to come by in Tallahassee, and good priced sushi even harder. I took full advantage of the 2 for 1 drink special (the house chardonay is surprisingly good), and of course their 2 for 1 sushi rolls!! I'm pretty hard to please when it comes to sushi; one taste and if my seafood isn't fresh, I send it right back. Their crab was delicious, and crab is easy to mess up. The miso soup was good and I give the decor a solid A. I just hope the location doesn't end up hurting them, since everything in that shopping center seems to be moving. But you should definitely eat here, it won't disappoint!

We've been to Kiku a few of times and it never dissapoints. So far it's our favorite sushi in NE Tally. In addition to the sushi they serve Bento boxes during lunch time and hibachi style dinners. I've had the salmon bento box and chicken hibachi and both were great. The place is nice and clean and the weight staff is attentive. Definitely one to keep coming back to.

Three of my friends and I were in town so we decided to try out Kiku since it was near our hotel. When we got there, the ambiance was very nice, and we were seated within 15 minutes. Good so far. However, after we were seated and had our drink orders taken, it took a good 15 minutes before we could get our waiter to take down our order. This was after telling her politely multiple times that we were ready to order and her responding multiple times that she had to deal with some "mishaps" and that it would "only be a couple seconds." Well, fine. We got our order down. For an appetizer, we got one soft shell crab tempura appetizer and some edamame in addition to the complimentary miso and salad with ginger dressing. The appetizers took a good 15 minutes to get out which wasn't so bad except most our stuff shouldn't even take that long. The appetizers were... alright I guess. The miso soup was tasty; the edamame was fine; and the salad was alright. However, the soft-shelled crab tempura was terribly bland. The dish was essentially one soft-shelled crab which they dipped in tempura and deep fried it. It was served with the prototypical tempura sauce. Price? $10. Um, I don't think my expectations are too unreasonable when I say that I think that soft-shelled crab should have some flavor aside from fried tempura and mass-produced sauce. Nonetheless that's what we got. Now, here comes the worst part of the dinner. A good hour after we ordered our food (and many questions asking on the status of our orders), it still hadn't come out of the kitchen. It was a pretty simple order too. Two chicken teriyaki plates and a couple rolls. The wait got to be so bad though that we had to get our food to go since we were starting to run very late on our trip. After much pleading and ten more minutes, our food was finally out; but not before I saw the sushi chefs get to work on our rolls JUST AFTER we asked to get it to go. In my opinion, this kind of service is unacceptable from any restaurant. The waitress basically ignored us after we ordered. There was no assuring us that our order was being taken care of or checking up on us. The food, once we got to eat it, was alright; but definitely not worth the wait. The chicken teriyaki had a pretty tasty sauce, but the chicken was definitely dry. The flaming dragon roll was excellent. However, the salmon skin roll was a complete dud. It tasted more like rice than anything. The shrimp tempura roll was plain at best, but that's fine for a shrimp tempura roll I guess. Overall, this experience gets a very poor rating due to its poor service and average quality of food. I think the reason we may have been treated so coldly is that we were teenagers, and teenagers often get a bad reputation at restaurants. However, after we each ordered around $20 worth of food, I thought that would mean that they would understand we were serious. At the end, each of us tipped 10%, but we wanted to tip less. I know the stereotype is that teenagers are bad tippers, but each of us would have been happy to tip much more (and indeed we do) if we had gotten even passable service. The bad thing is that this might reinforce that stereotype even though the service was awful. However, they really, really deserved it. I think they took advantage of our position for their own good, and that's not an acceptable dining experience. If I am ever back in town, I will not be visiting Kiku. Getting a lobotomy would be a better use of my time.

Tallahassee's BEST sushi, nigiri, sashimi bar - bar none. Rationale? They've always had fresh sea urchin (uni) when I've visited. I even do the "visit Tuesday" test to verify. Today was no exception. My friend Ernie treated me to a VERY generous birthday lunch at kiku's. He had a couple of sushi rolls in addition to sashimi conch and seaweed salad. To boot, he also had his first taste of uni with quail egg topper. I had (here's where I break out over-the-top (yet apropos) vocabulary) a most splendid lineup of conch, sea clam and octopus sashimi, a spicy tuna hand roll, the pair of uni /quail egg nigiri all following the de rigueur miso bowl. Admittedly, the hand roll is really the only display of talent here, other than the miso soup. I mean that these two items require assembly/construction. Everything else simply requires a regular purveyance of fresh, high quality product. Sure, there is clearly talent in forming the rice and wrapping the seaweed but the freshness factor is paramount. I digress. Bottom line: Depend on kiku as tallahassee's premier sushi bar. It's true.

This is and will always be my first place to eat sushi at. The sushi is absolutely excellent!! And you cannot be the fact that they always have BOGO seven days a week. Service is great and it's beautiful inside. Very nice place to eat for special occasions also.

Th sushi rolls were excellent we had 6 Mmm yummy. Their were no tables so we sat @ the bar & it was great washing them make the rolls. Our waitress was sweet & attentive we sat by the end of their station. We're from out of town so we know our sushi rolls. We travel a lot . We look @ yelp & we don't go wrong when there 4 or 5 more stars. We ignore the 2 because they talk about service or other things. We will definitely come back if are in this part of town.

A solid sushi spot with friendly service and interesting rolls. We got a huge portion for the table of various rolls and I enjoyed most of them. I found some of the basic rolls like the asparagus roll and the California to be on the dry side, but it was made up for by the pink lady and the beauty and the beast roll. Overall a great lunch spot. Loses a star for location as I really hate eating in strip malls.

Have you people ever had sushi before? This place advertises everywhere and promotes their buy one get one. I don't know which is worse, the one you "buy" or the one you get "free" Both are small, mostly rice, poorly presented, and most importantly flavorless If you want good sushi, with great service, go down to the parkway and capital circle and enjoy AZU!! This place is for real!!!

We have dined at Kiku twice, and had a great experience both times. It's dark and romantic. The special rolls have always been outstanding. The servers are friendly and welcoming. Perfectly balanced cocktails and a unique approach to mixology. I would say good value - you get what you pay for. Fair portions. Lots of low-carb options on the menu. The only downside is the temperature in the dining room. It's kept very cold. Bring a sweater and wear long pants! The food and service is good enough, that it's worth being cold for an hour or so. I assume it's so cold for the sake of the fresh fish? Love this spot. Always felt welcome and left satisfied.

This is by far the worst sushi restaurant I have ever eaten at. First of all, it is over priced for what you get. Osaka down the street is 100 times nicer and it's not nearly as expensive. One thing that bothered me a lot is that the server didn't care about us at all. I order the tofu teriyaki dinner and when she saw I didn't eat any of it, she asked if I needed a to go box and I told her no, and that I did not like it, she still charged me for the dish and said okay sorry. It was awful.

The VERY best place to get sushi in Tallahassee. Selections are always BOGO and the fish is always fresh and delicious. The Candybar Maki is one of my favorites. I make it a point to bring friends and family who are new or visiting. Rolls are a good size too!

This place is amazing! I go here so often, I think I need to own stock in it. Lol. The service is good and you get a lot for your money. The sushi is fresh and the bento boxes are very tasty.

Somewhat recommended, but with some reservations. I did not have sushi so this review is purely for a kitchen entree. Kiku has a dark yet high-energy vibe and a lovely-looking sushi bar for the solo diner or those who don't want to look at each other. Small booths are the best place to sit for small groups. I wasn't in the mood for sushi so had katsudon. The usual salad with ginger dressing appeared first - this was fine but the dressing was just dumped on top (why don't most Japanese restaurants dress their salads properly?) Then came the main dish. The katsudon was prepared with fried egg, as is usual in Japan but far from guaranteed in the US or Korea, but unfortunately the tasty pork and egg combo was undone by soggy breading (it's hard to get this right but it's integral to the dish.) Pickles and inoffensive vegetables were mixed in with the rice and meat, whereas the pickles would have been better on the side. This came, oddly to my taste, with a very mild and thin tonkatsu sauce rather than the usual thicker one. Maybe that's a regional thing, I don't know, but either way it didn't add much to my taste. Rice was fine. Basically, things like that are casual, comfort-food dishes but ones that live or die by their preparation, and with the breading and egg slipping off when I tried to eat it, it didn't quite pass muster, tasty though it was. The menu has some BOGO offers on sushi that aren't marked and are explained quickly and quite confusingly by the (admittedly very friendly and overworked) wait staff. Expensive for the quality of kitchen food but I'll go back for sushi sometime. Full bar. Free wifi.

Crowded sushi bar? Sure. But Kiku also had every table filled. Three sushi chefs were doing their best to keep up. Still, we had cheerful & attentive service. We started with a small ginger salad. I thought the dressing was a bit too thick. But the flavor was typical of most sushi restaurants. Our edamame was steamed and salted perfectly. I ordered a rainbow roll and a New York roll. While on the small size, the rolls were made with fresh fish and sweet rice. The kids ordered tempura. To my surprise, it was light, crispy, not greasy and well seasoned. The snow mountain maki was shrimp, crab & avacado stacked on a cucumber was excellent. Kiku compares well to any "big city" sushi restaurant. Frankly, better than most.

The ambiance is nice in this restaurant and the service is friendly. They have nice tables and a sushi bar in the back. We ordered the beef teriyaki which was decent and it came w a side of rice. The beef yaki udon was okay but the beef was a bit tough. California rolls and miso soup were good. The gyoza was bit size but tasty.

Best sushi in Tallahassee for the price...hands down. The food is amazing, the prices are great, the staff is extremely helpful and sweet. Their specials are steals. I would definitely recommend this place.

The best sushi in Tallahasse... by far! So happy they put one closer to campus. Before, I would drive all the way up to the one on Thomasville, simply because no other place compares. The tempura is light and flaky and the butterfly maki roll is my order every single time.
