As a huge supporter of everything locally brewed, I am a fan of Grasslands, and not only because of the amazing brews.... but their whole outlook on brewing. I was lucky enough to partake in a few samples at an event last week... and I was so impressed that we beelined it right on over for just a few more to end the night. Loved the outdoor seating on such a nice (and not too sweltering) night. I was able to sample the Rye IPA, Groundation Amber and a scotch ale. Scotch ales have never been a favorite of mine, but I really enjoyed everything else. Typically, I'm an IPA gal, so I immediately fell in love with the rye. What a nice, unexpected combo that really packs a nice kick to it, but goes down smooth. Loved, loved, loved it. And thanks to Florida summers, I have been drinking a lot of ales lately, but the amber was nice and drinkable, with plenty of flavor. After having these samples at the other event, I chose to stay light and finish the night with another light ale. What I love most about this brewery, besides the pure passion that you can tell everything is made with, is the focus on the environment. Their slogan is Earth Coast Ales, and they are doing everything they can to minimize their carbon footprint and be super eco-friendly. A++++!

Loved the beer (excited for their own to be poured here soon) and wine selection, the ambiance and the price. It is everything I would expect in a taproom, and they nailed it on the build. The feel in the taproom was great. Patrons were in small groups, enjoying their drinks and each other's company. You are encouraged to hang out for a while as they provide games for you to take to your table. Their rules are very accommodating as you are allowed to bring in outside food, supervised children, and even leashed dogs. Taking a peak at their FAQ page: grasslandsbrewery.com/ne… shows their desire to make the taproom very inclusive. Being there last night was fun, and the taproom wasn't very busy (a shocker to me on a Friday night), but I wish they allowed their bartenders to leave the bar area to check on patrons and take orders for additional rounds of drinks. Maybe it is designed that way, all avenues lead to the bar, but having to get up and stand at the bar waiting to order, then having to come back after the order has been poured to collect your drinks, then go back to the bar to cash out was a very minor inconvenience to an overall great experience. I will definitely be back and am very pleased that GrassLands is here in Tallahassee!

Everything about GrassLands feels like a Goldilocks tale: just right. The space itself is sizeable enough to accommodate a large crowd, but small enough that when the place isn't full it doesn't give off the appearance of a ghost town. The overall design also makes the casually and classily dressed feel equally at home. The menu size itself is also spot-on; featuring local Florida brews, (and soon to be their own) it doesn't give so many options that you feel overwhelmed or so little that you feel like there is nothing to offer. Its location on the up-and-coming Gaines Street is also a perfect location nestled between both FSU and FAMU campuses and just outside of downtown, making it an eclectic spot for college students and professionals alike. I also appreciated the selection of hand-held games ranging from Jenga and Rummikub to Skip-bo and Uno. While this surely won't be everyone's go-to amusement the idea is thoughtful nonetheless. Already thoroughly enjoying my experience, I was even more pleased when I approached the bar to take pictures of the up-and-coming brewery room behind the bar. A kind-looking guy in a Tampa Bay Lightning jersey sitting at the counter told me that it was okay for me to actually go into the room itself instead of just getting pictures from the bar seat. I'm embarrassed to say that even after he told me that no, he wasn't kidding, and yes I was allowed to go back there that I wasn't quite convinced (until the bartender, Liz, informed me that this was Gabe, the owner). Needless to say he was very gracious and patient with me and that experience was truly meaningful.

The grand opening for GrassLands was February 28th. I had not heard much feedback from friends personally before stopping by a little less than a week later. I came around the bend on foot and saw the extra-sized red tables that offered ample outdoor gathering space. The strings of lights also remind me of Proof nearby, but I can tell that GrassLands' business will be fruitful. The artwork places the patrons in the brewing process itself, having one panel that depicts the mashing, boiling, or fermentation process "from grass to glass." Other iron work lighting fixtures also add to GrassLands' character, the ones in the back room reminding me of a movie projector. I appreciated the offer of sample sizes, finding my favorite on the menu: Cigar City Cider. That brew may be a standard, but for someone who finds it challenging to frequent breweries as a non-beer lover, I assert that it's a plus to say that I would come back here.

Great beer selection! The only reason that this place didn't get 5 stars is because there are an excessive amount of fruit flies lingering around the taps. Kinda gross.

I highly respect Grasslands Brewery. Owners are both FSU Grads from the East Coast who stayed in Tallahassee to open its second standalone brewery. Thank you for helping take Tallahassee to the next level. Watch out Austin!!

Went by Grasslands this past weekend and was thoroughly impressed with this new establishment. We will definitely be back. If you want to see a place that is passionate about their craft (no pun) and get a taste of excellent, local and regional beer, you need to stop by Grasslands. An assortment of beers on tap (IPAs, Porters, etc.) to please any palate. The "Wavemaker" is a great selection. The atmosphere is relaxing and inviting. Reasonably priced beer located in the heart of the Gaines Street Revival. What else do you need?

Came here after a Domi event and was pleasantly surprised. Not loud, friendly service and good beer! I've had two more unique brews here, a dill pickle beer and a Thai chili beer. Both were killer! $6 for a 10 oz. glass of beer isn't cheap, but not bad. Had a good selection of wine and cider for non-beer drinkers. Easy parking, good atmosphere would bring me back alone. The beer is just a welcomed bonus.

First visit to Grassland Brewery on Gaines. While I was concerned about being the oldest patron, I was not disappointed. Oldest? yes. But not by much! Industrial, casual atmosphere and loads of great beers on tap. Despite the short electrical outage from the night's raging storm, the fun continued! Great place to chill and enjoy a $5 craft beer.

Tallahassee's latest local brewery has a prime location on Gaines Street. The charming space welcomes one in. The employees are down-to-earth, sending kindhearted vibes and interacting with customers. The outdoor area possesses warm, suspended lights providing a lovely setting for customers to socialize. Indoors, you'll discover locals playing table games, i.e. Uno, Battleship, Jenga, etc. After all this is a brewery, therefore let's discuss Grasslands beer options. Well, they don't have any of their own beer on tap, at least not just yet. Properly scattered along wooden tables, Grasslands lays out their business model on laminated prints. It states they desired to open up the taproom first, in order for the customer to witness a brewery being built before your eyes. I'm not completely sold on the gimmick; I believe they're merely waiting on a brewing license. In the meantime, Grasslands offers 12 taps of local, Florida brewed beer, including two of Tallahassee's own Proof Brewing Company and many others from around the state. Last night, I ordered an IPA out of Sarasota, Florida. It had a balanced, hoppy flavor, fitting for my palette. Fun fact, during the week they close at 10 pm., perfect for us old folk. On the weekends, like Proof, they close up shop at midnight. I'll continue to visit Grasslands and I'm curious to watch them flourish. I hope they obtain their license soon, because I'm overtly anxious to try their local brew!

I was at the opening of GrassLands Brewing Company on 2/28. I was so pleased to see another brewery opening in Tallahassee. The interior while not very large holds quite a lot of people. The weather was not very nice so many were inside. For now they do not sell their own brewed product. They do have a partnership brew available with a jax brewery, Green Room. It was an IPA and I not a huge fan of IPAs so I opted for another choice on the menu, The Swamphead Imperial Red. It was slightly more hoppy than a normal red ale but good nonetheless. The BF got JDub Imperial Stout. He enjoyed it. It had rich flavor. I enjoyed my taste of his as well. He as happy to see several dark beer choices and is looking forward to going back to try more. The layout is simple and the bar stools were reasonably comfortable. They were ready to take credit cards on day 1! However, service was slow. There were too many people behind the counters and some wiping glasses. It was making it hard for the few bartenders to maneuver. They could have gotten a system down. Where beers were called out and poured some how. While opening day crowds were an irregularly large amount of people they need to think about a system because crowds could and should be like that on a concert day at the civic center, during tailgating for big basketball games and even on football game days. The brewery can be seen through a large glass window and is very much in the works. They had small white notes on the bar and tables letting customers know their business model is to offer other Florida Brewery Beer and then get their beer started up. They did feature about 90% Florida breweries. Which is amazing. You can go in to Grasslands right now and get a taste of the craft brewing scene from across the state. They will rotate offerings. Their prices I felt were fair. Some of the college scene might not pay 7 dollars for a porter but 4 dollars for a lager isn't out of their price range. We felt they had really competitive pricing to other beer locations in the area. The location long term is really ideal as well. It is very close to the civic center and right on Gaines Street in the middle of the growth and revitalization. They did claim to have wine but they didn't have a list when we asked. I wanted to see a list and was finally able to get the attention of a girl toweling off glasses. She asked a bartender and he rattled off "a Cab Sav, a Chardonnay, and we couldn't hear the rest and then she just turned and looked at us. So I guess no printed list and wine wasn't included on the large flat screen TVs were they posted the beer offerings. It was the same incredible slow bartender who said the wine names so we weren't going to wait for him to come back around to us and then wait another 10 minutes for our drink. We saw him trying to open and wine bottle and he had no clue as we were getting up to leave. In short, if they are going to offer wine (and they should) they need to refine that part of the service. My BF thought they could put the logos of the breweries next to beer listings as they are electronic anyway and maybe lay out the names a little bit better. He said people might be able to associate the logos with the kind they like or as "hey I saw that and I wanted to try it" They have such a large screens this would make it nice and achievable. I am looking forward to seeing GrassLand expand. In the meantime, check them out and get a taste for what is brewing around Florida.
