My husband and I sat at the bar on a Saturday evening. The bartender was very prompt and personable. A bartender with a personality is a must for us. Just a little chatting will do. We both had bottled beers. My only complaint is that the beer should have been colder. Didn't keep us from drinking them though. Bartender put the next ones on ice for us. Score!! We both had burgers and they were fabulous. I consider myself a burger aficionado so I should know. Lol The fries were great and crispy. The coleslaw was also good. We will definitely be back and I recommend it to others.

Fantastic food. Alan and Brian (the owners) try and buy local when they can find it. I have worked in the restaurant industry for 5 years, and these guys care about what they serve. Never have had a bad meal or experience.

I really liked this place the few times I have been. Decent beer selection, great prices for the high quality of ingredients they use. They use some local vendors and that is always a huge plus for me. The food has always been really good. My only compliant is some of the sandwiches need to be eaten with a fork because they are super messy. Service is knowledgeable and friendly.

I agree with the others that have said that this place is way overpriced for what you get. Food wasn't bad, but wasn't very good either. Just OK. Could go elsewhere and get a better sandwich for much less $$. Not terrible, but you could do much better elsewhere.

We were coming back from Monticello and decided to eat here because it smelled so good. How sad that the food did not live up to the wonderful smells emanating from the restaurant. Sigh. The server was all right, but she sure took a long time to get to the table, and then took a long time to refill my Guy's glass when he ran dry. The menu is very limited. From an overhead cost perspective, this is understandable, but from a customer choice perspective, it is daunting. Appetizers, where I usually make my meal selections, are almost non-existent. I was most disappointed. I ordered a cup of the chili. It was standard fare, nothing to write home about. The meat was good, but very chunky. My guy had a chicken dish, but his was kind of dry and not very inspired. Our food took a long time to come out of the kitchen, and we were there after normal dinner hours. Atmosphere was incredibly noisy to the point of sensory overload, and we can handle loud places. We were underwhelmed with our meals and the service. Don't think we'll be going back.

It was okay... I wish it was better! My Chicken Pesto sandwich was dry and my husbands burger was suppose to be loaded with no tomato instead it came with a tomato and no condiments... They do have my favorite type of French fries!

We ordered nachos and wings for appetizers. Nachos were great, wings were spicy but didn't have a lot of flavor. I had the chicken sandwich with honey habanero sauce, smashed cheese potatoes. Sandwich was ok... the honey is actually honey- which makes the sandwich messy, yet it was still a bit dry and flavorless. The mashed potatoes could have been great if they werent salty. My husband had the meatloaf and said it was pretty good but the mashed potatoes were salty. Not sure I'd go back, if I did I'd order the nachos. Service was great- very friendly. Many of the Thomasville Red Elephant staff are now employed here.

So when you walk in they have all these signs about friends and family and they really mean it!!! The food tastes like it was cooked with love (i.e., amazing) and it is served with kindness. For those who don't care for the sappiness, try the sweet potato waffle fries, Mac and cheese, or the flatbread pizza. The catch of the day was also awesome!

Wonderful experience Saturday. Management was proactive asking which football game we wanted to view (UGA vs SC). Superb job by our server, Oliver. Enjoyed our food and will definitely be going back!

I have no idea why we hadn't come here yet. Shame on us because this place was awesome. Service was great, even the manager and waitresses that were not assigned to us were asking us if we needed anything else. Now, food was finger-licking good!!!!! Definitely coming back!!!!

Great atmosphere, cozy make you feel at home restaurant... from the time we walked in to the time we left the staff was inviting and friendly! Our server was great, kept our drinks full and knew the menu. Myself and 2 others try this restaurant for the first time and only thing holding back 5 stars was my burger. I ordered medium with added grilled onions and cheese ( extra $ ) but my burger came out med-rare, after sending it back it seem as if it could have possibly been microwaved...the bun was oddly warm and soft and the flavor just wasnt there...needless to say I didn't finish it. The 2 people I was with ordered the same red fish sandwich and enjoyed it. We also had the cheese fries, which is what I ate mostly and i would order again. I wouldn't go for a burger but hoping to give them another try just because of the staff.

Went in for our first time this weekend and it was amazing. The manager heard it was our first time and he came out with a bowl of their macaroni and cheese which he called a sample size. but my three year old out the entire kid sized portion. It was delicious. hubby had a burger & sweet potato waffle fries and I had the honey bear they were both fantastic. Very inviting place we will be back yum yum

The food was ok but not great. The prices indicated that we'd get great food. I was not impressed nor will we be returning.

We decided to try this place out after having heard some really nice things about it. We got there and was immediately pleased with the cozy outdoor seating and the almost instant service. The menu had a reasonable variety of dishes to chose from. I had the large bowl of mac and cheese and my wife had a wrap. After that the initial instant service kind of went away a bit as our waitress seemed a little bit on the ditzy side...even going as far as to bring me the wrong meal. The food itself was pretty good. I learned that a large bowl means just that : LARGE! We both liked the market to table concept but this place seems more like a casual sports bar type place and not so much on the "hipster snobbish" side that alot of the market to table places are like.

Slow, expensive, mediocre food. Have eaten here several times now, and each time have had a ridiculous wait for my order, no matter what the crowd was like. Full or empty, lunch or dinner, it's an hour and a half, at least, to get out of here. Burgers are thin and overpriced. Locally-sourced salads are large but full of stems. My wife says I just don't like the place...and she's right. Meh.

They have a mac and cheese wrap that I tried a couple of days ago. Really good stuff. It is not for keeping up with resolutions, but really tasty. Great service staff too. I really like a place when the manager checks on your table, and I mean a sincere checking in on how the food was, not just a 2 second walk by. Try the sweet potato fries with the honey. Good stuff.

Been there once in person and had take out twice. Very impressed with vegetarian selections and my coworker that got a regular sandwich was impressed as well. I believe this is owned by the same people that own red elephant, and the menu has a similar flair, as does the restaurant.

This is a follow up to my first review. I recently went back to the flying bear, this time with two friends who had never been. One of them can be extremely picky when it comes to food. They both had excellent meals, and both the punch out pasta penne, and the meatloaf, we're perfect. The price may seem a bit much, however the quality of the food as well as you being locally sourced and prepared, makes it more than worth it. Service again was outstanding, I will be becoming a regular.

Eh.... That's really the best I can construct to describe our meal. It was as if the main cook and bartender both took the night off. My wife asked for a peach martini; not a difficult drink, it only has three ingredients for Christ sake, but the bartender said he was not comfortable making the drink. She settled for poor excuse for an orange martini which the bartender recommended. She had the meatloaf for her entree and it wasn't anything to write home about. I had the ribeye which was tough vastly undercooked and poorly seasoned. In short, if you want drinks and/or an excellent steak go to the smoke house. If you want meatloaf head to Teds. I do not think we will be returning to the Flying Bear.

I've been here twice so far with my husband, and both times our meals have been excellent! Love the sweet potato waffle fries, the fresh local greens, the chicken and burgers. Fair price for good, local fresh food, nice atmosphere, and friendly staff.

It's always great to see another eatery open, especially in my neck of the woods, Bradfordville. As we watched the signs go up for Flying Bear anticipation grew until, finally it was open. Big problem - it was packed from day one. And still is drawing great crowds. We delayed our visit until it seemed the patronage seemed to stabilize a bit. Entering Flying Bear everything is clean and slick. Walls are minimally decorated. Friendly hostess with a smile seats you, and then you notice - this place is loud. With no soft surfaces, the noise level is high. The website touts the restaurant is locally owned, and that's very good to hear. Our server was at the table promptly and took our drink orders as we cruised the menu. Choices are somewhat limited, and that's a good thing for me. The entree items are a bot pricey - $14 for meatloaf and $15 for grilled chicken. In defense of the pricing, ingredients are sourced somewhat locally - Ragged Glory Farm in Havana, Orchard Pond Organics in Tallahassee, and Johnston's Meat of Monticello. Premium, good for you ingredients do cost more. So how was the food? Meat loaf was served in a generous portion over 'smashed ' potatoes, and sided with braised cabbage and kale, and candied carrots. The meat loaf was tasty and thick sliced, liberally loaded with veggies. I'd like to see it hit the flat top for a little crusting before service, but that' s a personal preference. The cabbage was well prepared, not too salty, and not cooked to mush. The Rustic Grilled Chicken was topped with goat cheese, sauteed mushrooms and tomatoes with seasonal greens and ,mashed potatoes. The chicken was done just as my partner likes, but was a tad dry (overcooked) for my taste. Again, just a personal opinion. This dish also had cabbage and candied carrots. Our server was selling the bread pudding hard, but I was full (and I already sport too much weight), so we passed on that. Will we return? Very likely. Flying Bear is a good alternative to the chains.

Had lunch with friends here today and was quite pleased. Our server, Brandon, was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. We had a group of eight, but we did not wait long for our food and everything came out together. Everyone liked what they ordered and agreed that we would be back!

Oh my goodness - what can I say... I don't write reviews, but feel compelled to share. The hospitality, the food, the atmosphere, all deserve 5 stars on their own. Brian Gibson and his brother have established an amazing restaurant offering not only incredible food, but service that I'd come to come to believe was a lost art. Brian, along with our amazing waiter Brandon made us feel welcome like old friends. There were 4 of us in town on business and as road warriors we eat out a lot. Everything we tasted exceeded our expectations. From the nachos and quesadillas for appetizers, to the amazing grilled broccoli (yes I do mean broccoli), to the design your own mac & cheese, to the rustic chicken with goat cheese, to the burgers, to the pizza - they can cook, and the presentation was great as well. But, as if that wasn't enough, the amazing bread pudding with drunken berries was enough to bring me back. The Flying Bear has made my top 5 restaurant list. I'm just sorry I live in Kansas City and will only be visiting Tallahassee a few more times. We may not eat dinner at any other place when in town. We've been royally spoiled!

What a great place to eat! Nicest staff in Tallahassee and the food is delicious. Our server, Rich, was so friendly and attentive. The manager, Brian, met us at the door and brought us a sample of their delicious gumbo before we even ordered. BE SURE TO EAT HERE! You won't be disappointed.
