Because you decide the combination of ingredients in your order, it may take a few visits to really strike gold. But once you find a few standards that you love, this place is fantastic. Also, there are vegetarian options which is a plus. I offer this tip: get the sauce on the side. Many times they drench your stir fry with the sauce and you end up eating a sauce soup for the last few bites.

Every time I'm in town I have to visit this place. I absolutely love it! Great food and great prices! And there are so many options you just can't go wrong! I like that they made it unlimited veggies and garnishes!

This is a locally owned fast food place so I of course wanted to support and try it out. The first few times I ate here I was a little confused on what to get but after a few times I just piled the veggies on (they are unlimited choices) and made it into a great chicken stir fry dinner that I constantly crave. You get more than enough food with the regular and is priced very reasonable for what you get. I am not surprised that they are expanding rapidly.

Pretty tasty stir fry at a decent price. I've been here a couple of times now, and really enjoyed my visits. The most complicated part of the whole experience, with a bit of a learning curve for some, would be the novel order system of dry erase menus and expo markers. This has been detailed in other reviews, and it's quite simple. If you choose to eat-in (there is a drive-thru which I have not used) then to the right of the cash register there is a small rack with expo markers and menus. It's a "build-a-bowl" concept where you select protein (chicken, pork, shrimp, etc.) a grain (different rices, noodles, quinoa) and an assortment of vegetables, sauces, and spices. There are also "premium toppings" like feta cheese, peanuts, cashews, and American Cheddar. You get one of these automatically, and pay for more. They give you a very small amount. It's pretty much as simple as that. Here's an example I had recently: Chicken bowl with white rice: broccoli, red peppers, green peppers, cabbage with the "sweet & spicy" sauce and topped with a little feta cheese. All of this comes out to around $8ish for a regular bowl and about $10 for a large bowl. TIP: Don't bother with the large bowl. First time I went I ordered a large, and there was no distinguishable difference between my more expensive bowl and the Mrs. regular bowl. At best they might weigh out more rice or something, I've no idea but the regular is plenty filling anyway. Sound familiar? This is basically a Genghis Grill type of food, except you don't fill your own bowl or have waiter service. Frankly, I like this better. It's probably about the same price but I don't have to do have the work myself, you get about the same amount of food, and it's never been as busy at 1 Fresh. The interior is a basic fast-food set-up with a lot of "zany and fun" signs with semi-humorous references to drooling. The workers are pretty friendly, and the place is perfectly clean. Unlike other reviewers, I've had no trouble with the bathroom. It's a basic casual dining bathroom, not the Bellagio with an attendant. Who cares? As I recall the fountain drinks are Pepsi and Cheerwine is also available, which is unusual but cool. There is also a small assortment of beer. One final tip: The "beignets" are really just frozen french-toast covered in powder-sugar. They taste good, but that ain't a beignet y'all. So, the bottom line is that this is a fast, casual dining experience that is reasonably priced and offers tasty, relatively fresh food without the fuss of some similar concepts.

1 Fresh has been a love-hate relationship for me. Love the food. Usually, anyway. And with the regular menu revisions the stores are always improving selection. For those of you contemplating your first visit ti 1 Fresh, here's how it works. As you enter grab a laminated menu and a colored marker. Take a seat and review your choices. Stir fry bowl, quesadilla, taco, wrap, burrito - your choice. Then choose your starch, protein, veg, and sauce. Toppings are next. Then hand your marked menu to the counter attendant, pay the bill, take a seat and your food will be delivered. The decor is nothing dramatic, just typical fast food utilitarian. But the stores are clean, and that's a big plus (don't glance into the kitchen - wok cooking is messy). Don't expect quiet solitude when you dine in. Wok tools banging steel woks can produce a cacophony of metallic clangs and bangs. Just think of it as world music. I've visited 1 Fresh since the first days the original store opened on Monroe, then the Cap Cir store (near Sam's), and the now closed Market Street location. The Monroe store is my go to since it's fairly close to my wife's workplace. The staff at this store has been fairly stable, though my favorite employee will soon graduate nursing school and head into the world of work. This young lady makes it happen at her store (though I've no idea if she manages or not). More often than not, my food is top notch. Delivered wonderfully hot and steamy, and usually very promptly, I really enjoy the experience. So what's not to like? Consistency. I've had bowls arrive sauced perfectly, noticeably lacking in sauce, and swimming in sauce. Bowls have arrived heavy with ingredients, average, and woefully lacking of ingredients other than starch. I've waited for my order while four seated diners and two carry outs were delivered. When I inquired I was told my orders were next up. WTF is up with that? After the 15 minute wait, I had no choice but to get my money back and head to McD's (YUCK) to get a quick on-the-go lunch. But I will go back. I like that the store is locally owned. I like that I get a special deal on (most) Mondays (free drink, wonton, etc). Just like the store on facebook. If the cooks could just get the consistency so I know what to expect.

There are two bright points about One Fresh on North Monroe in Tallahassee. LOCAL. It's a locally owned business and I like being able to support locally owned restaurants and businesses. STAFF. On each of my visits to One Fresh (three) the staff has been very friendly. That's actually saying a lot when you compare to some restaurants in town where the staff could care less about what their attitude. With that said...this place is a mess. The menu makes no sense. There's stir fry, pasta, philly cheese steak and a chicken chunk sandwich. I got the chicken sandwich. It came with ranch and chives and white cheddar cheese...just items I don't ever think of with a chicken sandwich. The philly cheesesteak I've gotten in the past and it didn't taste fresh. More so it was $22 for the chicken sandwich, fries (fries are extra otherwise you get a bag of potato chips) and a stir fry bowl. Pretty price, especially considering what you get, in a fast casual restaurant. Those who are into stir fry...rice I guess, I can see why they may come here. But there is just a total inconsistency with the menu, the decor and the overall branding. My first trip to One Fresh only came after the urging of a friend who really just wanted to try something new. I don't get it...not sure if I'll ever go back...it's just an odd place, and the menu is very limited. The food isn't bad...if you like stir fry I would say give it a try. Just don't expect to leave being "wow'ed".

Only tried it once since moving here but it was pretty good. I had a chicken, broccoli and ginger mixture that was good enough to satisfy my Pei Wei cravings.

The location sucks. It's so hard turning into this place. Once you get in the service is OK - nothing special. But the big problem - the quality of food is bad and the flavors suck. The menu sets you up for more then you'll receive. I rather just go to Genghis Grill.

I wanted to like 1 fresh, it all seemed so great. An eclectic menu, affordable prices, and a great word of mouth. The staff and restaurants are even top notch, the problem is the food is very, very, below average. It takes like unseasoned Ramen Noodles to be honest.

  • Nicole A.

I had a teriyaki bowl and it was pretty good. Idk about the other dishes, my bf tried one more Italian style and I didn't like it as much. The inside is surprisingly nice compared to the outside. I want to go back and try more!

  • Tiffany D.

I was very disappointed with my bowl and so was my hubby. I prefer more veggies to starch I barely had any vegetables in my rice bowl... I'll continue to go to Genghis if I want fresh stir-fry.

  • J D.

It's local. It looks okay... But it's very very bland. Definitely catered to an american palate who deems it necessary to have little actual spices used. Ordered a few of the items and shared them, couldn't see my place going back. 2 stars b/c it was quick and clean.

  • Daniel P.

I'm a fan of the black rice bowl. Not sure why, because I can't articulate the reason for my preference of it over white/brown/stir fried rice. But anyway. The key reason to come here is that you'll only have yourself to laud (or blame) for the outcome of your dish. You are 100% in control of what goes in to it. Trust the kitchen, they're going to prepare it correctly. This location (and Cap. Cir across from Sam's) has never messed up for me. I'm a fan of the "Bob" sauce. Billed as "green salsa with a bite" - it just delivers what I'm looking for each time. If you've never been, then you deserve the first-hand experience to judge for yourself. If you like stir-fry, then there's really no reason to go anywhere else. They're more than just stir-fry, but I'd recommend you go with that on your first visit. Branch out afterwards.

Pile those veggies on sky high, boys, we are eating fresh tonight! I LOVE vegetables. I mean, it probably sounds weird but growing up I used to eat broccoli and cheese as a meal for dinner sometimes. Vegetables have a warm place in my heart and I was really craving a place where I could get them mixed together in an awesome sauce with some seafood and just pig out on stir fry. I came into 1 Fresh and was helped by a very nice young gentleman who explained the ordering process to me. You pick your base (which could be rice, lettuce, noodles, etc) then you pick as many vegetables as you want and then you pick a protein. After that, you choose a sauce to get all the vegetables cooked in. Now I wanted to go the healthier route so I asked for no oil when doing my stir fry. I also ordered a ton of vegetables and then shrimp with the salsa, which is one of the healthier options on the menu. After I ordered, I sat down and waited. The food didn't take very long to come out which I was grateful for. The vegetables had been prepared perfectly and there was so much food but it all tasted so fresh and delicious that it was hard to stop eating. The flavors were awesome and light. The shrimp was excellent. Pricing was fair and reasonable for a stir fry joint. I paid $13 for a drink and my create-your-own stir fry, which I think is pretty decent for as much food as I got. Some of the meats are cheaper, but shrimp is one of the most expensive. I'll definitely be returning here soon.

Love this restaurant, have been eating here literally since the first week it opened. I'd like to take credit for getting water chestnuts added to the menu (I suggested it to the owner many years ago), but who knows how true that is. The salads and sandwiches are great, in addition to the stir fry. My one complaint is related to the drive-thru. I don't mind waiting for fresh food; however, the staff is not very consistent at checking the drive-thru to see if more than 1 car is waiting. As a result, sometimes I end up waiting for the person ahead of me to get their entire order made, before I even get to place my order. That makes for a VERY long wait. Still worth it, but occasionally frustrating.

I'm not a local, but I was referred to 1 Fresh by a former local. Great call. I used to live in Chattanooga, and they had a Genghis Grill, which was stellar. 1 Fresh is pretty much its younger brother. It's like Subway for stir fry. They give you a menu, and you choose anything you want from 5 or 6 columns (meats, veggies, rice or noodles, toppings, sauces, etc). I had their habanero sauce, which gave huge flavor, but if you're not one for spicy kickers then stay away from this one. I also had their peanut sauce. I'm a major peanut fan, and this sauce tasted like roasted peanuts with a mellow aura. Very good. The large bowl is like a deep chasm, to which you can add items to your liking and desires. The cool thing about 1 Fresh is that you make whatever you like, and if you don't like it then you only have yourself to blame. Therefore, anyone who had a bad experience here has only their own tastes to blame. It was obviously my first time here, so the staff was very helpful. Great experience, great food. Easy Five

I think this place is great. I used to frequent it weekly. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because I feel like they are trying to do too much by offering some random food items that aren't nearly as good as their stir-fry bowls. That being said, for what you get in the stir-fry it's great. I usually get chicken with Teriyaki #2 sauce, brown rice, cashews, cilantro, onions, tomatoes, and white cheddar cheese.... I may be leaving out a few things but that sounds right. The regular bowl is usually filled pretty high and is enough to fill you up. Look for coupons and you can get a regular bowl sometimes for only $4. Join there email list and you can get a secret word that gets you something else free too. For what I like, good, inexpensive food, this place is hard to beat.

Best I can say is this IS MY FAVORITE standby eatery.

This was a tough one. I'd give it 2.5 stars if I had the option. The food is only marginally better than frozen stir fry from the grocery store spruced up with some fresh nuts, seeds, cilantro, or something similar. It is marginally better than that, but not by much. The atmosphere is functional, but boring. Just like Moe's, Zaxby's, and so many other fast casual places. On the plus side, you can order stir fry just about any way you want it. The combinations far exceed anything at the grocery store. I do like variety in the fast-casual market, and I hope the stores succeed for that reason. Honestly, fresh stir fry is about the easiest thing there is to make. And if I'm lazy, I can get quality close to 1 Fresh Stirfy just by throwing some frozen stirfy in a skillet with a couple of fresh ingredients I usually keep on hand. At home it is half the price, nearly as good, and just as quick. Why would I go to 1 Fresh?

One Fresh is possibly my favorite place to eat in Tallahassee at the moment and the restaurants are pretty consistent from location to location. I tend to be a bit of a control freak so I love being able to choose exactly what goes in my food so it's great every time. I'm delighted I can choose quinoa since it is so tasty and full of healthy protein. It seems as if everyone who goes to One Fresh often has their go-to ingredients or sauce, so it may take a few tries to land on what strikes your fancy. You can usually tell who the regulars are by how quickly they fill out their dry-erase menu sheets. At first, I was nervous about their extensive menu which includes quesadillas, tater tots, sushi, "snack packs", breakfast, and countless other things, since companies who branch out that far tend to be mediocre at everything. However, I just stick to the regular bowl of stir fry and all is well. Drinks are huge (but styrofoam cups, even for dining in - ack!), iced tea is good, and service is quick, friendly, and helpful. There is even a convenient drive-thru which I have used a few times. I rate this restaurant 4 stars instead of 5 because at times my tofu has tasted a bit stale or freezer burnt and occasionally they will float the whole thing in too much sauce. Also, the dorky little comments painted around the restaurant about burping and drooling kind of gross me out. Those minor issues aside, One Fresh is pretty great, pretty cheap, and also locally owned and operated. I wish they had one in Gainesville since I think it would do pretty well there, too.

One Fresh is really, really good. The fact that it serves quinoa is more than awesome, and its large stir fries are always good for more than one meal. I've also tried the quesadillas and burritos, which are not bad by any means. But I always come back to the stir fry. The unlimited veggies and garnishes are quite nice, but they often neglect to add one of the garnishes and are sometimes stingy with those they do add. Still, this is a place I can feel good about eating when I'm trying to keep my calories down...at least I hope so. I'm always going to wish that restaurants provided nutrition info, but unless there's a secret ingredient that doubles the calories, I think I can trust One Fresh. Incidentally, this is just me being overly picky, but the fact that the place is called "1 Fresh" instead of "One Fresh" really bugs me. I refuse to participate.

All 6 in our group enjoyed the food here. Everything was great (wraps, quesadillas, and stir fry) except that the alfredo sauce is only mediocre. We would definitely eat here again. The staff was very helpful and offered tastes of the various sauces to us befor we placed our order.

  • Apryl E.

I love the variety of the menu and affordable prices. It's also an easy way for me to get a good bit of veggies in my system- that's not one of my favorite things to do. I of course am partial to the LEAST healthy sauce on the menu (brown rice with alfredo sauce- who'd have thunk?) but I love that it's locally owned and made to order.

This place is excellant. I ate here yesterday. I like the way the way you place your order. They give you a big dry erase meniu and you circle what you want and all the different toppings you would like on your food. The vegies were very fresh and chrunchy and everything was sooooo flavorful. Good little place to go to in Tallahassee.

    (5)
  • Scott L.

When you walk in, you pick up a menu with a ton of different meats, seasonings, sauces, starches, vegetables, etc., and circle the things you want them to cook and throw into a bowl for you (or into a wrap or salad). They have a few other options on the back, but I honestly didn't really look at them. As far as bowl-making goes, there are many choices and you may wind up with something Italian, Asian, or something completely random in-between, depending on what you circle. I got noodles mixed with beef, chicken, garlic, broccoli, carrots, and a szechuan sauce. I would have liked the sauce to be a little spicier and a little less sweet, but it was still good. They have one spicy sauce which is actually very spicy (maybe too spicy to eat on its own), so maybe next time I'll ask them to mix the two. I got the regular sized bowl, and it was just the perfect amount for a filling lunch. The only disappointment was the one-tons (sic). They are tiny fried wontons with one of a few different fillings inside. The filling was almost entirely cream cheese, or so it seemed, and they were just too small. They are inexpensive, so I can't complain too much, but they just seemed like a lot of fried wonton and a tiny bit of filling. However, the rest of the meal and the pretty good price made up for it, so still 4 stars. The employees were also very friendly and had no problem explaining how things worked to me.

My mate and I decided to give this place a try since we are trying to migrate to better eating habits this year. I liked the choices and went with the starch of the day, black rice, adding in pork and some of my favorite veggies. I chose a spicy sweet sauce to go in it. We got the small bowl and it was a good thing. There must have been at least three cups of food. There was a lot of rice and less of the meat and veggie mix. I would have preferred to see more veggie, less starch, but the meat was about right. I couldn't eat more than a half cup and we took the rest home. My mate ate every last grain of his dish and loved it. Mine was good, the rice had a nice flavor for my first try at black rice. It's just a huge amount of food. The staff were very nice and helpful, not to mention pleasant and cheerful. I noticed that a lot of folks brought their families in to eat there. We'll go back, and I may opt for all veggie stir fry the next time, no meat or rice. Hmmm....

I think this is a good idea for a healthier alternative to fast food. You choose what combination you want by marking off the components on a menu. White rice, brown rice, Penne Noodle or Linguini Then, choose what kind of meat or shrimp Three kinds of vegetables Type of sauce And topping (eg. cashew nuts, herbs). The prices vary starting from around $6.50 for a good portion of food with a lot of vegetables and meat mixed in (not just rice or noodles). They brought a chocolate malt ball in a paper sauce cup for dessert with each order :) They also offer different soups, salads, spring rolls and crispy wontons (called "one tons") Customer service is friendly. You order and pay and then bring your food to your table. Parking is convenient, around the store.

My favorite place in Tallahassee. Simply amazing stirfry, and like nothing you've ever had before. You can find something, and probably more than one thing, you'll love here. Great, clean restaurant with an odd theme makes it even more enjoyable. It's the one place I miss from my days in Tallahassee.

I freaking love being able to customize my food down to every single ingredient. This place kicks ass. Beware of their tots btw: for 2.95, gosh! they're a huge portion.

Tasty food, fresh and fast. Free Wifi which is a major plus in the land of Tallahassee where most places haven't figured out the importance of moving past the dark ages. (Did you hear that Subway, Firehouse, Longhorn, Boston Market and the rest of you lunch time losers of my business?) 1 Fresh itself is cold and dark despite all the large windows. Is this how they keep their food fresh? This I do not know. I have to admit I was surprised to see a giant framed poster outside the bathrooms that read, "Heck Yeah we make taste buds really shine, but our bathrooms sparkle." Heck yeah no they don't. It's more like a "clean" you'd find at an old truck stop or campground. I will say they were cold & dark, so at least they are consistent with their theme. What is it with cold & dark anyway? Were they depressed when they built this place? Or do they think people will want to order extra warm food if they are sad and gloomy? The tunes they play in this place is nothing short of noise. I'm not talking birds squawking noise or traffic noise. I'm taking noise like you'd experience sitting in a small room filled with 10,000 kindergarteners who are 1 bottle and two hours past their nap time. It's music you'd expect to find in an over crowded health club. I half expected one of their staff to come and try to high pressure me into signing up for a year's membership. All in all, the food was good enough to come back. The prices were not great for lunch, but not a rip off either. They get extra points for providing Wifi but lose them for making my ears bleed with music that is pure noise. And they lose more points for the decor. My advice.... Get your food to go and then drive across to the park to enjoy your lunch.

Locally owned and awesome! I recently moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and the thing that I miss most from Tallahassee is 1 Fresh. My only complaint about them is they don't have FedEx delivery of their rice bowls to my area. I'm going back to Tally for a visit in February and I will stop at 1 Fresh first before visiting anyone else. Yeah mom, this means you... If your food was this good, maybe I'd visit you first!

  • Hannah S.

Note to self: clean eating is generally best attempted at home. Clean eating in my kitchen = delicious, healthy, reasonably priced eats. Clean eating at 1 Fresh Stirfry = bland, overpriced, questionably sauced foodstuffs. I'll stick with the farmer's market and some coconut oil, thankyouverymuch.

I was visiting a friend in Tally and she recommended this as a good place to grab something pretty healthy and good. It absolutely lived up to my expectations. I really liked the dry-erase markers/write-on menu concept that allowed me to select my carb, my meat, and lots of veggies and seasonings. I did a basic lo mein with tons of veggies and everything tasted great! Not sure why the negative comments about the restrooms, unless 1 Fresh has paid attention and improved. I found them clean and quite adequate. Nice experience and I am sad we don't have one of these near us.

Baby, I hate to do this to you, but I have to prove that I am not a fat crazy lady who likes every calorie that tranverses the cavern called my mouth. Your food just does not work for me. I had a stir fry that left me underwhelmed. I went back a year later and order a shrimp spinach tomato and onion quesadilla. They made the quesadilla like they were mad at the stove. To be honest, this place is lacking skill not fresh ingredients. C'mon man, how you gon' mess up a quesadilla. It is a high tone grilled cheese.

One Fresh is a Tallahassee tradition. It's always delicious and I love supporting the locally owned business. The best sauce for stir fry is Teriyaki #2, yum! The Krab One-Tons are also delicious (they're basically Crab Rangoons). If you're feeling adventurous, try the quinoa. It is like a healthier version of rice, but tastes very similar and is delicious. Such a great amount of food for the price, too! I'm not sure why more FSU students don't flock to this place.

Great flavor and great service. Ask for their Teriyaki sauce, it goes great with anything. Also their Felipe's special sauce. ...it's yummy! !

EVERY TIME I go to visit Tallahassee I HAVE to go to 1 Fresh. It's practically a tradition at the point. However, I always stick to my tried and true meal and never sway from that although I keep telling myself to get the black rice next time :) The Teriyaki #2 sauce is the way to go... don't even bother trying another flavor. The one thing I miss though??? MALT BALLS! OH HOW YOU ARE MISSED!!!! :(
