Ehhhhhh it's just a so so place. Sloppy food prepared poorly, trying to imitate a fancier restaurant than they really are. The tuna tartar was gross and cut badly. Everything is smothered in butter or some condiment to satisfy. The tables are super short and the chairs are very uncomfortable. They messed up our order 3 times, it's not brain surgery guys. It's was my moms 60th bday... Oh well

It is almost impossible to find any place that serves real fried chicken gravy. We drive 60 miles to go to the Gafford whenever we have the opportunity. Everything we have had there has been very good with good service. Also the owner has asked about our meal on every occasion.

Disappointed again! Last time I ate here our food was either undercooked ( fish) or overcooked ( fried chicken). This last time, again, improper cooking attempts, spoke to the owner/manager who replied that's how we cook it here. Didn't offer us a new menu item to replace our uneaten meals. It was crowded and noisy, conversation was impossible. I think their management needs some training on how to handle complaints in a more productive way.

Creative dishes, quality ingredients, classy atmosphere and our waitress was great (emmy I believe was her name). My pork chop was the best dish of the table (photo attached); however, although the waitress informed me it would be cooked medium (which I like) it was very close to well done. Not well done enough to send back and it was still terrific, but it was a little disappointing since I enjoy the juiciness of a pork chopped cooked to medium. The tuna guacamole dish was outstanding. Overall this is a great restaurant for the Stuart area and I definitely recommend checking it out.

this restaurant is in denial of their bad management and discourteous service. Reservations are not taken seriously, answered with abrupt replies and a "we could care less attitude" Never go there and anticipate you will be treated correctly by the management, host or servers. We had a very unsatisfactory experience.

Nice place to enjoy good food with family or friends. Dined there recently with my mother and pleasing her isn't easy. :) Delicious food prepared just right.

Love this place!!! Great place for a date night, candle lit, great location, food came out quickly.

My wife and I have been going to this restaurant since it was the Flagler Grill. Owners changed, Chef changed, and obviously, the menu changed. In spite of all that, this place has not lost its appeal. The atmosphere is quaint, although it can get a little on the noisy side, the food makes up for it. I just love the Fried Chicken.

Meat and cheese board was great. Enjoyed the wedge salad and the shrimp and grits. Crab cakes (3 of em with no filler) were a steal for the price.

Excellent overall! Great service, food, atmosphere. Cheese board appetizer, Hangar steak, Maybel's fried chicken, shrimp and grits, mahi mahi and chocolate mousse cake. Fall pasta dish was not as flavorful as I would have hoped. Service to correct this was commendable. Wine list offered several options at good price points. Will be going back!!

We loved the Gafford even before it was the Gafford. The service is still great, and the atmosphere is one you can actually choose -- whether you want to be quiet in the restaurant, or join the lively crew in the bar, you can do either. My husband gets e-mails on specials they're having, which was what drove us to go that night. We had delicious martinis, with their own infused vodkas -- my husband especially enjoyed the pineapple vodka. The tuna tartare was one of the evening's specials, and we both really enjoyed that, the accompanying guacamole was amazing. I had the Rocket Salad, which was also a mix of nice flavors, and delicious.

What a pleasant surprise! My son and I arrived without reservations and still were seated immediately. Both the food and presentation were excellent, as was the service. We will definitely put The Gafford on the top of our list!

We made a reservation on line got to the restaurant and was told they were booked. The manager told us a table would be open soon and the hostess came out and told us there booked again. We left not going to go back. I think some one costs the gafford some money.

Nice place a little tight though and very dark. I order the sword special with fresh asparagus and my husband orders a variety appetizer of pulled BBQ pork and a generous slab of baby back ribs. It was delicious.

There's only one other restaurant on par with The Gafford in Stuart and that's 7 Orchids and they serve an entirely different style of food. Thank goodness there's someplace like this to eat at in the area now. Would've given 5 stars but the very self-important hostess have our table away - word of advice: don't be more than 15 minutes late for your reservation. At 16 minutes you'll have to go wait in the bar until they can 'work you in', which isn't so horrible with a friendly and capable bar staff. Our server was great. Food was great. Left completely stuffed and happy.

We had a reservation for my husband's birthday (party of 5) because we've been wanting to try this place and had a babysitter for our 4 kids. (not an easy task). Upon arrival they told us they did not have our reservation. The manager came over some to us and told us there were 2 tables that would become available within 30 mins they were both done eating and just finishing their wine. After talking to everyone we decided to stay and wait. The very rude hostess tells us they are booked for the night and she doesn't know what we overheard. Had such a belittling tone and snooty. Never saw the manager again. I'm sorry but if that is the staff you keep then I don't need to spend my money there. So we walked to the Oyster bar right down the street and spent a few hundred dollars there and had a wonderful time and the food was amazing. We all love to drink wine and sample lots of food. It's a shame, one restaurant just lost our business for good and respect.

Wow! This place is amazing. Best meal in a while. I ordered the fried chicken with gravy and mashed potatoes. My dad ordered the cheese burger. My mom ordered the duck. My friend ordered the chicken sandwich. We basically stuffed ourselves. The mashed potatoes were memorable. Garlic mash with chive or something. Amazing with gravy. The gravy was mild and perfect on the fried chicken. Asparagus was cooked perfectly. The presentation of this dish was a work of art. I tried some of my mom's duck. It was glazed with a sweet chili sauce. Amazing. I'm not a duck fan, but this was definitely something I would have ordered on my own. Dad's cheeseburger was huge and it was served with homemade potato chips. I ordered a blood orange vodka. A bit expensive, and I forgot I don't like vodka. It did the job, though.

Made our first visit the Gafford with friends Friday evening. The service was wonderful, and our waitress top notch. The food is outstanding, and we will be returning to check out more of their creative menu offerings. The lamb chop lollies appetizer was to die for, as well as their Maine lobster bisque. The entree specials were all phenominal. Well done Gafford!

They are most likely the best in town. The main bartender can be a bit surly though. Great food, good table service

We made reservations for a party of three not knowing what to expect. Overall one of the better dinners I have had anywhere - period. I had the Filet which was out of this world and would compete very well with any high end steak house. Other guests had the swordfish special which was prepared to perfection. We all left the resturant knowing that we would definitely return.

The food was amazing! Very accommodating to vegan diet and meat eaters alike. Their appetizers were delicious! The wine selection was awesome too! Have the portobello

This restaurant was recommended by the owner of the VRBO rental we were staying at in Stuart, Florida. It was Friday night, and we pulled into the quaint, historic downtown Stuart and found a parking space right in front of the restaurant... off to a good start. We were so happy that we had made reservations as the Gafford was packed, loud and lively. The hostess promptly greeted us and sat us right next to the open kitchen. Our waitress was very friendly with a lovely British accent. I started with a glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc which was very light and smooth for a hot summer evening. The organic farm stand salad sounded delicious with mixed local greens, farm carrots and cucumbers, baby heirloom tomatoes, homemade croutons and avocado ranch dressing. For my entrée I ordered the Mahi Mahi which was lightly blackened and grilled local Mahi with red pepper and mango salsa served over couscous and quinoa pilaf. We sipped on our wine and the delicious freshly baked bread with real butter. The salad was very good as well as the bread and butter. I am sorry to say that my fish was very dry and lacked flavor in the fish and mango salsa. The couscous and quinoa pilaf was flavorless and also dry..... Very disappointed in my entré. I tried to order a cappuccino at the end of the meal and basically was brought hot milk with coffee and no froth. I do not think the waitress knew what was in a cappuccino as mine had no... froth whatsoever. She asked the manager to help her with my next cappuccino and she returned once again with hot milk in coffee. She was very nice and apologized and then took it off our bill.

We dined at the Gafford Tuesday night. I had made reservations previously. We arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation. The hostess seated us by the window, which I declined because it was still too hot and the sun was directly on the table. She seated us to the table closest to the hostess stand which I wasn't crazy about either, but it was fine. The restaurant only had a couple tables taken, she could have put us at a more desirable seat. We were greeted promptly by our server David with water, warm bread and butter. He offered cocktail specials, which we had pineapple vodka martinis. David told us the appetizer specials, we ordered the Burrata and Gator ribs which arrived to the table within 10 minutes. I loved the Burrata and the ribs were good. David took our dinner order, and replinished our drinks. Our Gafford Ribeye and Filet Mignon were cooked perfectly!! The accompaniments suited the dishes, and were yummy as well. David described the desserts in which we had the banana cheesecake in fried Philo with salted caramel ice cream and coffee, Delish!!! David took our payment in a timely manner, we complimented his wonderful service, and will ask for him when we dine again!! Other than the hostess's snippyness, dining at the Gafford was superb!!

My companion and I had dinner here last night before seeing Judy Collins at the Lyric Theatre next door. Perfect spot to dine before a performance - short stroll, easy parking. I had the kale and arugula salad (see photo), which had a nice bite to it. My companion had the swordfish for an entree, I had the seared tuna. Both fish dishes were expertly prepared, with a nice salt hit, cooked to perfection. The swordfish had a kalamata olive tapenade, my tuna was wrapped in prosciutto and basil. I thought the food was spectacular for the price. I have been charged far more and not been nearly as happy with the quality. We were tempted by the deserts, but we were running out of time and appetite. Bottom line: I'd go back again in a heartbeat.

Incredible! The food was superb, I had the Hangar Steak which was cooked to perfection and topped with a chimichurri sauce and a hidden extra "zing" to it, it was amazing! The tuna steak was again cooked to perfection and was very tasty. No one at our table was complaining and the food was fairly priced. I liked that the specials were told to us with the pricing rather than surprising us on the bill. Service was excellent! It packs up pretty quickly on a Saturday night so I do recommend making a reservation! I used the online reservation system and we arrived 10 minutes prior to our reservation time and our table was ready and waiting for us. The atmosphere can get a little loud. I definitely recommend this place!

Went the on a Monday night before a show. Service was spot on and the food was over the top. My steak was perfectly cooked, my husband's fish(snapper) "best I've ever tasted". My friend had a simple roast chicken which she said was great, she also had the farmhouse salad which looked awesome. Her husband had the steak salad which looked wonderful. Large portion of perfectly done steak on a beautiful mound of greens. The drinks, Martinis were perfect, with a wide range of choices, if your not a purist A bit on the pricey side but worth every penny.

Crab cake appetizer was outstanding as was Jill, our server. The steak salad ingredients were excellent, especially the steak but the dressing, "jalapeño vinaigrette" was sweet. Yuck in my book.

Excellent!!! One of the best meals we had in our 5 day stay in Stuart. We had the tuna tartar (special for that day), the salmon and the crab cakes. Btw we came in around 9:40pm and they are supposed to close at 10, they still seated us. Our server was David and he was great... Very pleasant and professional. Overall an awesome experience -- quite the contrast to that of the spoto's oyster bar. When we visit again, we will be sure to be back here.

We ate dinner here on a Friday night in the off season.. but the restaurant is still packed. There is an open kitchen which is super cool, because you can see the kitchen preparing your dinner as its made. We were extremely impressed with our dinner. I had the duck deviled eggs, and my girlfriend had the tomato bisque soup for starting. We then had steak and tuna for dinner. The chef specifically prepped and cooked a perfect tuna for my girlfriend even though they had run out. The food was the best I'd ever had. I'd easily give this restaurant 5 star and more. The wait staff is extremely hospitable and friendly. If you are in Stuart and you don't try the Gafford, you are missing out.

Great food, friendly bartender. I happened to find this place on a Sunday night when it is normally closed, but opens when there is a show at the theater next door. Definitely worth a try.

The Gafford is a great place to stop in for a great meal. I have been in there a couple of times and have been empressed with the menu and service. The menu is fresh & simple overal great features that fit the area. The Crab Cakes are to die for. You can walk into the place and tell it it is well ran with an owner that is on the floor shaking hands and welcoming every guests as you would welcoming you into his house. The service staff is relaxed well trained, knowledgable and very engaged with the guest to ensure everything is perferct. It has been each of my recent visits. I will be back every time my business takes me to the area Well Done

I had the pleasure of going to the Gafford twice over my holiday break! The food and the service were both exceptional. The first night I sampled many appetizers including the cheese board, crab cakes, and the hummus. All were amazing. I followed the appetizers with the fried chicken and waffles. The chicken was delicious, and the chipolte syrup brought the meal to a new level. The second night I went, I treated myself to an intense 4 course meal. I started with the beer cheese soup, by far the best soup I have had! I also ordered the caesar salad which was light and delicious. The chef brought out a sample of the night's special : Roasted pear purses with caramelized shallot and brie creme with palm vity honey drizzle. It was amazing. I then ordered the filet, I know you are judging my intake at this point, but I was on vacation. The filet was cooked perfectly. My service was equally amazing both nights, and I loved the ambiance the restaurant provided...I highly recommend this place!
