The food was surprisely good at this non-pretentious, laid-back, waterfront cafe. Get the beach seating for an extra taste of relaxation. I had a perfectly cooked burger with sweet potato fries that was quite good. My aunt and MIL split the Thai chili, coconut fish and both agreed it was tasty and different. The crispy fish reuben was delicious, according to my husband, and so were the fish tacos, both the regular and mango style. We loved this impromptu stop and would go back without hesitation. Eating with your feet in the sand is definitely underrated.

This place could be a gem...but it is not taken care of. We were there early lunch today. The condiments which are in pales had not been cleaned in a week instead of this morning. The prep area in back near the restrooms where a fellow was doing something with food had the rear door open and flys were getting on everything . The rear (beach) area where we sat has old dirty chairs stacked up and an ice maker along the back of the long over due faded dirty wall of the building, the front and side appeared the same. I really doubt this place could meet a Heath inspection, this morning.

Stunning location, mediocre food, messy house-keeping.... My opening phrase says it all. The location is stellar! It's near the bridge underpass, on the water. It really is a pretty setting and perfect for sitting outdoors for dinner. There is no indoor seating except for a small area by the bar. They only serve beer and wine. The outdoor seating is in front and also, behind the building. The back, on the water, is sandy. The food is really just okay. Bruschetta appetizer was tasty but the bread was soggy, not toasted. The calamari was a strangely small portion considering we often order that at restaurants and share with at least four people. This was a serving for one. For dinner, I had the special, blackened shrimp tacos. It was fine although the shrimp had a strange seasoning, their version of blackened I guess. I had to scrape that off to eat it, but I liked the bean mixture. My husband and another couple all ordered the crab cakes on their recommendation. They said they loved this restaurant and the crab cakes were the "best ever." My husband thought they were dry and had too much filler. There were no sides with the two crab cakes, which seemed odd. Waitress should have said something. What turned me off the most was the "messy" condition of the whole place. We sat outside in the sandy area, beautiful, except that we were near the slop-sink where the mops and pails were dumped and rinsed. It was was dirty/messy and not pleasant to look at. Maybe it should be hidden from people who are dining. The interior of the building is just plain messy. Boxes, and things just all over, in no organized manner either, like whenever someone had to leave something, it was just dropped where-ever. Same in the ladies room. There were boxes, old dirty fans, etc. on shelves, on the floor, overhead, without any order to it. Just didn't seem like anyone ever cleaned up, put things away, threw it out, or washed anything. So, if you want a great view, go for a drink and appetizer, and sit out back on the water. The two stars are for the location and view. Hope that helps!

Great spot for lunch on the water. Open air view of the river and the Rt. 1 bridge with sand between your toes. Not exceptionally fast service but then again, it's a "vacation" setting so eating without a schedule is preferred. The Mahi-Mahi Rueben is exactly what you'd expect for a Rueben on the beach... Tasty! The homemade chips and tartar-malt vinegar like sauce is the perfect side! But consider sharing if you aren't a big eater.

The 2 stars are for the location & view. Service was complacent & put out by simple requests, like a side of honey mustard. We have made more trips to the kitchen for sides, water & utensils than our server. Price you pay is for the view, NOT the quality. While food is ok, it rightfully is served in baskets. If you should desire to share a meal with someone, do expect to pay $2.50 for the use of an additional basket. Enjoy a beer & the view, the rest is on you to make enjoyable

I brought my sister and dog here to enjoy last evening. Our waitress took very good care of us. I informed her about my shellfish allergy and she was honest about which items were worth ordering based on one's preference. We had the Short Rib Hoagie with sweet potato fries. The rib was slightly overcooked and very dry (it made me drink a lot lol) but the sweet potato fries were covered in cinnamon (yum!). My sister enjoyed it and loved it from the beginning. The waterfront (it gives off a very calm, relaxing energy), the dog friendliness (makes everyone smile), the great service (they are SO NICE), and the food (smells good and not a long wait time) so I was happy as well. I would love to come here during the day and see how it looks then.

We went here on a Friday night and the service was bad. We loved going here in the past. But this time we did not.

We stopped her after a few hours on the beach on Hutchinson Island. It's a small dive in the middle of a park on the water. Unless you're a local you would never know it was there. Now that you know...if you are visiting the Stuart area you won't be disappointed. From the mahi mahi sandwich to the giant charbroiled cowboy burger to the fish tacos and Boom Boom shrimp...everything was spectacular. Guy Fieri needs to check this place out. We sat outside on the sand patio and enjoyed the breeze, the waterfront view, the food and the weird looking birds that were hoping we would feed them. To top off our great experience, the service was also excellent! We will be back on our next visit to Stuart.

I'll make this short and sweet: Come here for the scenery. Skip the food. Just order drinks; the simpler the drink, the better. $2 PBR tall boys, and my favorite view in Stuart...hard to top that. Live music can usually be enjoyed on the weekends (think trop rock). Shaded tables are available if you want to get out of the sun. In summary, go here. Drink drinks. And if you choose to order food, well, I told you so.

Great location and that's about it! The picnic tables were sticky and dirty, the ice machine (which is outside) was moldy and dirty and the service was lousy. We did not eat because we walked by the kitchen and the door was open - it looked nasty. We had a draft beer and the next day we both had bad stomach problems - think it was from them not cleaning their beer lines. Next time we'll watch the sunset from the boadwalk, thank you very much.....

Okay so the fish tacos are better at Mulligans which is only a few blocks away, but can you put your feet in the sand and work on your tan while you are at Mulligans? Hell no. Go here on a gorgeous day when time is your friend and you will be fine. However, I found our waitress to be on top of the game. We never had to ask for refill on our teas and our food came out quickly. My fish tacos were good, but the blackened seasoning was a little to salty. The fried calamari is excellent! Sooo good! The bathrooms are despicable. The ladies room was out and we had to queue for the mens.

Great location and that's about it. Sticky picnic tables and I wasn't in the mood for fried that day so I had a mushroom veggie wrap and got a wet flavorless mess with hot lettuce. I had the bruschetta and got served tomatoes on what I think was a hotdog bun. Other table's fried looked good though.

Stopped in here after a short walk on the Boardwalk. It was a warm day but the table umbrellas in the sandy seating area with the cooler breeze off the water made for a nice meal. There is also a porch seating area which was well shaded if you are not up for sand. The service was good, our waitress was courteous. I had a Cowboy Burger and fries which were tasty and filling. There were decent drink specials and an overall unique casual atmosphere. I'd like to come back the next time I make it to Florida.

My hubby and I sometimes visit Flagler to walk on the dock or relax and stare out at the water. This time we were hungry and decided to stop at the Pelican Cafe. We never ate there before and decided why not? It was a prime location and we can eat on the sand, which seemed fun and different. I'm currently pregnant and my appetite isn't there as much as I would like, so I ordered a cob salad, which seemed like a good healthy option. My husband ordered the Greek salad with a side of grilled fish. My salad was very bitter. There was a lot of purple lettuce and blue cheese in the salad and all I was able to taste was a bitter almost dirt flavor that was off putting. Even my husband tried it and thought the same, so it wasn't just my messed up taste buds. As for my husband's salad, he works in the food industry so he was able to tell that some of the vegetables in his salad were from a can. He said he used the same product at work and so that was off putting for him because the ingredients weren't exactly "fresh" for being in a salad. For both the salads we ended up paying over $30 which I guess is the norm, but for us not being able to enjoy what we ordered it was overpriced for a bitter inedible salad and a salad with canned products in it. The only thing we did enjoy was looking out at the water and the birds that walked on the sand by us looking for scraps. I doubt we'll be returning to this cafe, but we will be going back to the park in the near future.

Plus one star for location. Nice view, and even next to a little park where the kids can run off some energy and still see when the food makes it to the table. I'll give it another one for casual dining where you can bring your dog without patrons looking at you like you belong somewhere else. I guess I should ditto that for kids, as some establishments seem to pooh-pooh even the well behaved sort. Only one more star for the food. I really wanted to like it more, since this place was kind of fun, cute and old-Floridesque.... Sadly, the food is just ok. Fish spread is from Mrs. Peters, and you are either going to love it or hate it, I think it all depends if you were raised on it (and I was.) Mrs. Peters fish spread was the strongest menu item in my opinion, followed closely by the sweet potato fries which were done just right. The rest of the food was ok, just barely. Lots of other local choices that were better, but I am a little bit of a sucker for the spot. I could down a few cold ones , just munch on the fish dip and give this place a higher rating. If you are coming for a real lunch or dinner though, it is a 2-3 star place.

I had the fish and chips; British style, and everything was perfect! The view is beautiful and it's so great to shove my toes in the sand! My grandmother had the American burger and she said it was out of this world! My mother had the fish tacos said it was very filling and yummy! My boyfriend had the fried shrimp and he said it was delicious! He also loved the cocktail sauce! My sister also had the British style fish and chips and she stated that they were amazing. The French fries were also spectacular! I will definitely come back here!

Good food, nice, shady covered picnic table on the beach. Either they were understaffed, or the waiters just don't care. Perhaps they were having a bad day, but after we received our drinks, we waited 20 minutes before asking another server to tell our server to come and take our order. She arrived after another 10 minutes. I'm a server, and it always pays to communicate with your guests, even if it's just to tell them it will be a few minutes. You don't just leave them there. The food (sandwiches ) took approximately 20 minutes, which is ok, if it were not for the fact we had been waiting so long already. The Allouette Chicken sandwich was great. The tuna salad sandwich was standard, traditional tuna salad on multi-grain sliced bread. The homemade chips were AWESOME. We chose the place because it is dog-friendly.

Stopped by for some lunch and sat in the sand enjoying the view. It is located under a bridge so pay attention to directions or you might miss the place. The food was reasonable; I had the chicken quesadilla and an order of onion rings. It was a lot food and had to take the onion rings home. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed. The option to sit in the sand is a winner. Kick off your shoes and have a nice lunch with your toes in the sand. The local wild life was stalking my table waiting for a random French fry to drop. I am not used to having a bird I have only seen on the animal channel on TV just inches from me, so I thought it was great added bonus. The menu looked solid and Floridian, the drinks looked tempting, the prices aren't too high, so give it a try. I had a good experience overall.

Great little place on the water. Come in for dinner while visiting some family in the area. All of the water front tables were taken, so our kind waitress brought a table and chairs out on the boardwalk for us. I had a perfectly cooked blue cheese burger with fries. No complaints here!

For my birthday I thought the Pelican cafe would be a fun setting for the kids, my husband and I to enjoy a casual dinner. The setting is nice, right on the river with picnic tables in the sand in a small patio area. Upon arrival a gruff hostess "greeted" us (or lack there of) and asked us where we would like to sit. I replied "The back patio if there is room" she then replied walking towards the table "Lord knows we do!", slammed our menus down and walked away. She obviously was not happy to be there and made it very well known. My husband and I looked at each other as if to say "Did that just happen!?" We chose to turn right back around and walked out. Ended up enjoying a nice meal just down the boardwalk in downtown Stuart. In a small town such as Stuart customer service goes a long way and word gets around. There probably was a reason there were not very many people there that evening. We will not be returning as long as this cafe is under the current management. While we did not stay to eat the food, the menu appeared to be mediocre with little choices and a bit overpriced. If you are reading this review in hopes of a fun setting and good food I would suggest you pass on Pelican cafe. Walk just a few blocks into downtown Stuart for a nice meal.

Awful service! The hostess and waitress took ages to seat us and take our order. The location is a run down house/shed located right under a huge concrete bridge. Our simple initial order of 3 beers took forever and then wasn't even correct.

Great casual dining. Leave the heels at home and enjoy tables in the sand. Large variety of beers and menu options.

Great place, great food and killer river / bridge view. After a quick bite ... portabello wrap for me and calamari for my husband (both were delicious), we strolled the board walk. Will definitely be back. It's a gem.

This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. So the cook walks off, food is delayed by over an hour, comes out cold and they don't do anything to make up for it. I walk out and the manager demands I pay for the glass of wine I had while we leave. Very unsophisticated management. Care only about us paying for our soda and wine prior to us leaving. My expectations is that they an establishment would allow us to leave without charging for the soda and wine since we had to wait an hour for cold food. Can't make this stuff up

Wonderful atmosphere sitting outside under Umbrellas on beach sand. Tasty Boom Boom shrimp and crunchy Mahi Reuben. Attentive service and gracious owner. A must while in Stuart, fl.

Very good food. We had Mahi fish tacos and the short rib quesadilla, both were excellent. The ahi tuna appetizer was excellent too. No complaints about the food, service, or atmosphere. The view is out of this world. And the prices were not too bad.

I ordered the grilled mahi and it was fresh and full of flavor. It was also really nice to have lunch with your feet in the sand. The staff are all very friendly and provide very attentive service.

Just love this place! Food is excellent, ambience is awesome for Floridians and tourist both. Only complaint is one slow server and we always get her!! Oh well, it won't stop us from loving to go here.

I have now been here a few times and I can say with certainty it's a place you take out of towners. Its decor is fun and its in a great loction. But food wise its ok. The serivce is nice and friendly. I haven't sat inside yet just on the deck and out in the sand.

Had a very fresh blackened chicken wrap with house made chips, all very fresh. The wings were excellent also. Would definitely come back here, especially on sundays, straight from the downtown market, walk the boardwalk to this little spot. $2 pounders as well, if you're ok with Rolling Rock.

Can't say I am overly impressed by the fact that they charged us a 20% gratuity without telling us. We left a tip too. They ended up getting a tip that was 50% of the overall bill. This was rather disappointing.

Very quaint little restaurant with outdoor seating. Excellent view. Great variety on the menu with something for everyone. Reasonable prices and very generous servings. The food was awesome. I had the chicken quesadilla with fresh made potato chips. Yum! One of our table had the Mediterranean Mahi which was huge and delicious. The Greek salad was loaded the fruit, feta and candied walnuts. The dressing was a perfect compliment. Last at our table was the turkey wrap with fries. Loaded with turkey and fresh veggies. I would definitely eat here again and highly recommend this place if you are looking for excellent food, service, great view of the water and reasonable prices.

Nice view, but the food was horrible. The fried fish was almost like a confit, the fish roll could be called a lettuce roll since was difficult to find and taste any fish in it..... :(

My husband and I had a late dinner here last night. The service was great, the fish and chips, floridian-style was perfect. There is nothing better than sitting outside, watching the water and feeling the breeze in a relaxed atomosphere, enjoying some great seafood. This was our first time here, but most certainly not our last.

Although we didn't order anything from the menu other than the sweet potato fries and a beer, the view and the service were good. The server was very personable and informative when asked what would be best when we returned.

This is kind of an odd place, a Florida tourist place that's kind of hidden so it is not a tourist trap. The location, at sunset, is incomparable, yesterday we were treated to a train going by as the sun set behind it, really beautiful. They have a "beach" area now so you can get sand in your shoes if you choose. Sierra Nevada on tap is a definite plus for me. I want to give it five stars but the service and prices keep me to four, although the wings were really good and my friend's tacos were "excellent." $11.95 for two mahi tacos and $9.95 for 12 wings are just a bit much for me.

My family stumbled upon Pelican Cafe our first day of a Florida vacation. We had taken at 7:00am flight and eaten lunch upon arrival at 11:00 at the nearest McDonalds to the airport. By 3:00pm we were starving for something high quality and relatively healthy. We selected Pelican cafe because it was casual and on the water. It is located on the dead end of a street that juts out into the bay under some major bridges. Most of the seating is outside, the two major options being on a deck and on a sanded patch. We chose the later as it was in the sun and there was a strong wind from the water. It ended up being amusing to watch the waitress trudge through the sand every time she served us. She was really friendly and accommodating. The building is more of a shack for food preparation. It fit the laid back atmosphere and let you observe them cooking the food with great care. I ordered the Evans Crary Wrap, grilled white fish, guac, pineapple salsa and arugula. It was really delicious except the pineapple overwhelmed some of the other ingredients which all were very fresh. It was also surprisingly messy for a wrap as the fruit juices dripped out of the bottom. I choose the sweet potatoes fries as my side and the were some of the best I've had. Also ordered at my table were the BLT, Mahi Reuben, and clams in white wine and garlic sauce all of which got rave reviews. Prices were reasonable with most being around $10. Pelican Cafe was perfect for what we so desperately needed at the moment, fresh and filling food in a casual and relaxing environment. A great lunch spot for beach vacationers.
