Diabetics at Village Inn

Village Inn is a tough place for diabetics, and you must be extra cautious while ordering food at the Village Inn, especially if you're a diabetic. The food items low in sodium are high in sugar or cholesterol at Village Inn which makes it difficult for diabetics to choose the right food at the diner.

Foods to Avoid at Village Inn for Diabetics

Village Inn offers very few items edible for diabetics without any threat. You can avoid sandwiches and burgers at Village Inn and try the light breakfast items on the menu. You must also skip the shakes as well as other juices from the beverage menu. Almost all the dinner items on the menu are high in sodium except Grilled Tilapia and 6 oz. Top Sirloin & Toast. Avoid Soup bowls and opt for cups instead at Village Inn.

My family and I found Village Cafe because we were looking for someplace that served breakfast at 11:00. I found Village Cafe on a Yelp search, and we are so glad we did! Everyone from the servers to the cashier were super friendly and were on the ball with anything we needed. The service was excellent and so was the food. Our party ordered both breakfast and lunch.: Blackened grouper sandwich-good size portion & delicious,, eggs benedict-also great, with a good hollandaise. The heartland frittata was excellent too- eggs, spinach, bacon & cheese, baked to perfection. We ordered a couple kids breakfasts & the kids loved them. One was the Mickey Mouse pancake, served with perfectly cooked bacon & sliced strawberry. The Village Cafe also serves a choice of fresh fruit (which was really fresh and had lots of variety), or home fries (which were also very good) to accompany the breakfasts. Also, the toast they serve is so good (I know....toast!), but it is very hearty/homemade bakery bread. I don't usually eat toast, but there's was so good! I cannot say a bad thing about the place except I wish it was closer to where I live! We will certainly be back when visiting the West Coast. I love to support family businesses, & this one is a gem!

We've had lunch, breakfast no matter what it's always prompt and delicious. Always the first place we go to when we arrive on the Key. Skillet breakfast with eggs, potatoes ,onions and bacon is the BEST!

We have been here several times while on vacation. We have never had a problem - fast service, great food and great portions for the price for breakfast. One of our favorite places to grab something in the AM.

Imagine a combination of a cafe and a Greek restaurant and you have the Village Cafe. The tsastiki sauce is the best I've ever had. When they have gyros as a special, do not pass them by! They serve breakfast for lunch too. Don't forget the Greek salad. They have outside dining and friendly service.

Lazy Sunday started with breakfast here - really because they were open at 7:00am! We had the bikini omelet with spinach and tomatoes, potatoes and toast. The eggs Benedict florentine with grits were so good! Take advantage of the free cinnamon roll for a bite of sweet! The coffee was perfect! Service was nice. She brought a bowl of water for the happy pooch. Definitely will be returning!

My wife and I have been to the Village Cafe on every trip to Siesta Key. The service is quick and the food is hot, fresh, and good. Yes, it's a diner kinda setting. You can eat indoors or outdoors. The portions are generous and the price is decent. You can't go wrong here.

I think someone else referred to it as diner food and that sums it up well. This has been a favorite breakfast spot for years and the helpings are large. Great location and nice outdoor seating. Food can be inconsistent in quality and this week was an example of a not-so great meal. Tuesday morning was fairly slow at the restaurant and our food was ok but not great. Temperature of my eggs was not hot and both of us left with upset stomachs. Pluses...gluten free bread was available and a coffee carafe was left on our table. I think the manager/owner needs to pay attention to the food prep and handling including giving the place a thorough cleaning. Something was bothering the wait staff on Tuesday when we were there which probably didn't help. We like this place but did not return on this visit to SK. This is a good place to eat with decent prices and generally good quality. Just not this week.

Ok folks, it's a cafe/diner. But for what it is, it's great! There are two other breakfast places in the area, the old standby that I've never understood what the hype is about, and another new one, but this is my favorite. Order the Mexican melt - you won't be disappointed, I promise! I have never had anything else, it's that good. My husband loves the eggs Benedict and home fries. The kids always leave happy as well. We love to sit outside and people watch. Great service, great food.

After being ignored for 20 minutes at another establishment Sunday morning, we decided to try Village Cafe. It's a busy bustling place at brunch time. Had to wait 15 minutes, but that's not a problem. Our server was prompt and polite as well as the seating hostess. This place is a loud bustling place during Sunday brunch. High energy, if you like that sort of thing. They let dogs hangout outside, but apparently not inside. Ordered food, and took about 15 minutes to get the food delivered. I ordered the Greek Omelet but they screwed up the order and he brought out a different omelet. It still had feta on top, but instead of spinach inside it had sausage. I took a bite and it tasted good, so I let the blunder slide. That place is BUSY and it would probably have taken another 15 minutes to get it corrected. Wife and son had pancakes and some other omelet which were good. Home fries are good. Overall, the experience the good but not great all the way around. I thought the omelets were a tad leathery, but not bad. It's a three star place. Would I go back? Probably not unless someone insisted. Chiefly because Sun Garden Cafe is right across the street, and that place is awesome. (See separate review)

This place is an awesome diner, I paid $6.95 for 6 slices of Texas French toast and it was sprinkled perfectly with powdered sugar. It's definitely not gourmet, but it's still really good cheep food, and a nice place for breakfast.

  • Ian R.

I used to give this place 5 stars. It's down to 2 now. If food is good and the atmosphere is cozy. They gave me a hard time with the free items offered on yelp. We took 11 people here 2 days in a row and they didn't want to give us the cinnamon rolls. End result was 1 to share with all 11? The coupon only says buy 2 breakfasts and get the roll. It doesn't say 1 per table. I bring my large family here every year and don't know that I will return here because of this. If one per table is the rule then put that on the coupon, and don't make your customers feel bad about using a coupon either! There is a lot of competition on the island, maybe you need to remember that.

My wife and I stopped in here while going for a stroll in downtown Siesta Key. We were pleased with the service and the quality of the meal. My wife had an omelette and I had pancakes. They were both fresh, hot, and tasted very homemade. We were also served very promptly. I'd recommend this place to anyone who wants to head out for breakfast or who needs a light meal during the day.

Nice place to go while staying on SK. Not fancy but tasty food. I had the Veggie Egg Skillet. Only problem was I found a hair in my food when I was 90% finished with my food. Of course that could happen anywhere. Good portions. Opens 7am too if you're a morning person.

Beautiful location on the corner, with outdoor seating, quick service and reasonable prices. The seating was right by the sidewalk and we were able to bring our pup with us. The breakfast menu was filled with a variety of (4) egg omelets which came with toast, biscuits, sausage, bacon, ect. You could custom make your dishes or order right off the menu. There are other dishes too in case you are vegan or looking for a lighter meal. I ended up getting the Mexican Omelet which was filled with the spicy sausage, cheese, beans, salsa, peppers and onions. It was very good and filling. Other dishes ordered was two eggs over easy, fruit and toast. A mickey mouse pancake and bacon. Both were very good. Oh, they also allow you to mix juices so you could get apple with cranberry, etc. The prices were just right and I was please with the service. I'd go again if I were in the area.

Didn't like the breakfast at all. Country Fried Steak is not steak at all but some kind of loaf of mystery meat breaded and fried. My husband had Los Amigos and Salsa is from a jar. Not thrilled.

This was our favorite breakfast spot in siesta key during our visit. Huge menu, well priced and they always had a perfect table available for us without a wait during our three visits over the course of a week. I Highly recommend the French toast! Fast and friendly service too!

Ordered the skillet breakfast. Expected Good. Received AMAZING. Coffee was fast and good. Our waiter was perfect. You can stumble into restaurants and wonder. In this one you don't have to wonder...it showed "Good Service" "Good Management" "Good Value" and when pondering how many ways can you make a breakfast or lunch or dinner...accept the right way. People that clearly care are serving up their best..

  • Adam C.

Biscuit and gravy bland and nothing special, cinnamon roll same, probably microwaved. Chicken omelet with bacon actually really good nice blend of flavors. Home fries were fresh cut just needed more seasoning and maybe onions. Grits need to be grits of the week instead of just plain with butter.I like he small diner feel, but just seemed like an unfinished product. Yeah you can leave full and ready for your day, but it is not a memorable breakfast. Great service, fast and friendly, but they can't change the food they serve.

This place came highly recommended and we decided to try it after realizing that Muchies 420 Cafe doesn't open until 4:20pm. We had to wait about fifteen minutes for a table even though we said first available b/c they do have outdoor seating. The wait wasn't so bad b/c we walked across the street and browsed around the farmer's market. After we were sat, the watiress greeted us although it did take her a few minutes to get to our table. I ordered the Mexican Wrap while my wife ordered Sweet Potato Pancakes of which I had never seen on a menu before. The food took a little longer than expected but once again, they were really busy. My dish was excellent and they gave me a nice portion of home fries to go with it. The waitress refilled our drinks in a timely manner and came back on checked on us a couple of times to make sure everything was fine. She did disappear after she dropped our check off and since we were eager to leave, was kind of annyoing. However, she was definitely one of the better servers I have had lately which was a breath of fresh air. All in all, I had a really nice experience here and I would come back next time I visit Siesta Key.

A group of us came for breakfast with slight (OK, maybe not so slight for some of us) hangovers the morning after the wedding. We were seated right away, and quickly had drinks and our orders were taken. Fiance ordered the rueben, I ordered one of their egg skillets (potatoes, a choice of topping sets, cheese, and 2 eggs done your way) with eggs over easy and bacon and onions, one friend ordered the same skillet with scrambled eggs and fresh veggies, and the last friend got the tuna melt. Both guys were less than impressed with their sandwiches - not rememberable and just a sandwich are the two descriptions they gave. Other friend and I were happy with our breakfast dishes - they provided the sufficient stomach settling we were looking for, and its kinda hard to screw up eggs and potatoes. Again, though, nothing overly special. Fiance and I also had mimosas, which weren't too expensive ($5ish each) but also were heavy on the OJ. Service was pretty good, the food was fine, but it wasn't anything special. It wouldn't be my first choice to return to for breakfast (we had better at The Broken Egg across the street), I wouldn't say no if someone else wanted to go.

We came for a lunch after a trip to the beach. Were seated promptly, and server was accommodating to our request for indoor seating. After ordering, food came out in a decent time (10-15 min). One member of our party originally ordered grouper, but the restaurant was out and offered alternatives. I believe that the grouper must have came in a bulk order at the beginning of the week, as we arrived fairly early (around 12:20) which makes me think it probably isn't local. The food was good, although not standout. I ordered Eggs Benedict with a side of home fries. Portion of the potatoes was quite large, however the Benedict itself was of an average size. Eggs were slightly underdone, but still tasty. The potatoes lacked seasoning, so I added a bit of salt from the table for flavor. The kids menu portions were competitively priced for a place on the beach ($4.95 for pancakes and quite a bit of sausage or bacon), and were quite good from what I heard. The other orders included an omelette and the tilapia sandwich, both were well-recieved. A suggestion would be to put less cheese on top of the omelette, as quite a bit was used. Overall, the place had great service and good quality, but I felt the food wasn't memorable. Service 4.5/5 Food 4/5

4 star average people? Really? Look, Village Café is fine - good size portions for a reasonable price - but everything on this menu you could make at home and it would taste the same. I came here simply because I've lived here for 4 years, was on Siesta Key, and wanted breakfast. Sun Garden Café was across the street - and I love t there - but we thought we'd try something different. Its a diner, they have diner food. It's not really good, but it doesn't suck either. Like I said, the portions are big, but why go out and spend money on food you can make at home? I know, you can make everything at home, but this actually tastes like you just made it in your kitchen, and unless you're Alton Brown or Bobby Flay or someone like that, the food you make in your kitchen isn't exactly to die for. I got a frittata, which was bland, and my girlfriend got a breakfast burrito, which was okay and the size of my leg. Service was not good. Server took her sweet time getting to us and then never checked on us. I wanted ketchup - has to ask another server who also refilled our water - so kudos to her, but our server didn't even deserve the 15% we left her. Do yourself a favor - go to Sun Garden instead. You'll enjoy it so much more.

We have been visiting SK for 10 years and we always eat breakfast here. The staff are helpful, friendly and efficient and we always feel at home. The food is typical american breakfast food; big portions, reasonable prices, good quality and always consistent. My personal favourite is the stuffed french toast. We have tried other breakfast places around SK and Sarasota (sun cafe, broken egg, IHOP and First Watch) and we still prefer the Village Cafe :-)

We've been coming to SK for 20+ years, and for as long as I remember, we've been eating at the Village Cafe. Admittedly, I am a very picky orderer, but regardless of what I ask for, the answer is always "no problem." My absolute faves... Mexican wrap, turkey rueben, turkey patty melt, and when it appears on the special board, spanokopita.

This bad review is in reference only to the BLT sandwich which was horribly skimpy for the $6.75 charged. What a tourist trap and I am a local! A real disappointment!I told the waitress and showed it to her,I told the cashier and the front end manager and no one seemed to car? They said sometimes they come out like that? I said Sometimes? So there is no consistency to your food? 1 tiny thin piece of lettuce, 1/2 of a thinly sliced tomato on each side of the small sandwich and 3 super thin/narrow slices of bacon. What a disappointment!!! And the attitude of the staff, holy cow even worse! Afraid of the owner? Maybe they didn't say a word to him and he was sitting right there! I will add, the omelets have always been fine, but would stay away from the tuna, it is dark meat tuna and tastes very fishy and is not good at all.WE WERE OVERALL Very disappointing In the food and the handling of or should i say the not handling of how disappointed we were and will not be returning!!! SHAME ONE YOU FOR Disappointing A LOCAL!

Stopped in with a large crowd, 7 people. They were fairly busy but not too bad at almost 9am. It is right on the strip and very convenient. There is not much parking, though it is pretty much the story about anywhere around this area. The food has the usual suspects. I sampled the breakfast burrito which was pretty good and loaded with ingredients. I like that they left a carafe of coffee since I pretty much would prefer to drink from he pot. Service was quick and accurate. Overall, good stuff at a decent price.

Perfectly decent breakfast and lunch fare. Sort of like a diner with outdoor seating. Delightfully unpretentious and basic. I dug the tuna melt although if it were located in Queens instead of Siesta Key, it'd be utterly forgettable.

Went to Siesta Key for a wedding and spent a little bit of time wondering around the "main st" (can't remember the actual street name) on the small island community outside of Sarasota. Went looking for a breakfast spot and initially thought we'd hit up the Broken Egg, but since there was a line out the door we kept walking and stumbled into the Village Cafe. We were seated immediately at an outdoor table, which was great for people-watching. I ordered the breakfast burrito (around $8-9) which was full of eggs, onions, green peppers and cheese. It was smothered in what I assume was Pace picante salsa. It was pretty good but really nothing special. The breakfast menu wasn't too extensive with options but it got the job done because it doesn't seem like the kind of place that will get super crowded. Others in my party seemed to agree that it was okay/good.

Bad service, bad food, bad attitude!! Went for breakfast. Food was brought out at different times. The food was bland and not tastey!! Waiter was serving us from behind us and not in front of the table. He also did not ask how our meal was and brought containers for thr leftovers ( we threw it out) when I went inside to talk to someone she refered me to the owner. He told me that i shouldnt have ate it. I said its in the containers that we don't even want!! In have never seen such defensive people when it comes to food. I never send food back, ever!! Please avoid our mistake. We found better breakfast the next day! Look for a busy place and get good food. I cannot say one good thing about this place! !!

Our favorite late lunch spot on Siesta Key. We enjoy the outside seating people watching. The service is always GREAT fast friendly and helpful. We have never had a bad meal here breakfast or lunch. Village Cafe is on our Siesta Key bucket list every visit. If you skip the Village Cafe you are skipping a part of Siesta Village tradition.
