Last night, I took two friends to the Capital Grill at the University Town Center. The reason for the dinner was because Brent is leaving for basic training and then active duty. He and his girlfriend, Melanie, had never dined at the Capital Grill and I thought it would be a nice memorable time for them. I introduced my friends to my regular server Amador, and explained that Brent was going into the military. The first thing Amador did was thank Brent for what he was doing, and going to do, for our country. He then bought us an appetizer. We placed our orders. The food and service was wonderful. I was ready to pay the check but Amador brought out a complimentary dessert! Again, ready to pay and Amador comes to our table with a man dressed in a suit. He was introduced to us as Timothy Fanning. He asked us how our meal was and said to Brent, "I understand you are having dinner here tonight because you leaving to go to basic training and then active duty." Brent said "Yes Sir." Tim then said, "Thank you for what you are about to do. We appreciate your service to our country!" They shook hands and then Tim said, "We are picking up your tab tonight." Brent, Melanie and I could not believe what had just happened. Tim invited us all to come back, and Brent said, "I'll see you in a year!" Thank you Tim, Amador, and Capital Grill for making last night such a memorable evening! T. Thomas

We couldn't get in anywhere on Father's Day, and since I bookmarked it, we walked in to give it a try. Luickly, we got a reserved table at lounge area. It's not busy any way. Tables and seat were in need of cleaning. After that, we sat down and our waiter was there immediately. After we ordered 2 soups, it was LONG time until he showed up again! (Get your orders in FAST next time) French onion soup was ok, so was lobster bisque. Too expensive $12 for how they tasted like. ($6 amazing asparagus soup next door) Silverware were laid on table for each dish, which I never like. My Scallops were good but you can get same thing somewhere half the price, better flavor. Halibut was lukewarm with cold risotto, after half hr or more waiting. Pathetic. We saw next table was brushed by bare hand quickly as their cleaning method!! No wonder it's a mess here. No next time. $147 plus tips. Crazy for slow service and ok food.

5 star service 3 star food and staggering prices. Really terrific service but for these prices I want better steaks. Just ok. Hard time considering returning often.

Christmas Eve dinner at the Grille; superb food; efficient, friendly server; and, of course, sophisticated and pleasant ambience. Any negatives? Unfortunately, yes...the support staff was virtually non-existent..had to actually chase a busser down to get water refills, and dirty plates remained on the table far too long for an establishment of this caliber (and price-point). This need to be addressed by management as it certainly detracts from the over-all experience. Also, on really checking the bill a moment ago, I noticed that the Jack Daniels Manhattan asked for turned out to be a Wild Turkey Manhattan...not life-threatening, but very inefficient ( I guess contradicting what I said above).

Went in early at about 5:10 PM without a reservation. Seated in the lounge (bar), with regular dinner menu. Asked for bar menu and had some really good food at fair prices for Capital Grill: excellent salad with champaign vinagrette dressing; lamb lollipops that were very tasty and just the right size, and lobster/crab cakes that were also delicious. Pleasant service from Jill. However, we would NEVER have known about the bar menu options if I hadn't asked about it. This shouldn't happen with a supposedly "classy" restaurant.

Great values on lunch menu. Had terrific ribeye sandwich. Steak House quality meat, big portion and great price. Combined with excellent service and relaxing atmosphere it is THE place for lunch at UTC.

We were Very disappointed in this Capital Grille. Having dined at two other restaurants that are part of this chain in different cities on the East Coast our experience at this mall store was sub par. The staff was not trained well, service was almost non existent, the potato dish was inedible and our shared steak arrived improperly cooked with poor presentation. Needless to say the fine dining experience we expected was not there but the prices said otherwise. We certainly hope the management gets this Grille up its reputed reputation soon.

Over priced. Horrible service. One expects a new place to at least start off trying. This place is busy because of the new buzz however it cannot last with less than average food, high prices and absolutely horrible service.

Went there for my wife's birthday. The table was set up with some party favor items on the table and a birthday card. Waiter recommended certain items that we tried. My steak was a little under cooked and my wife's fish was a little over cooked. Overall not bad at all. Not as good as Bern's Steakhouse, but not as far either. I would go back again several times. I want to try everything on the menu.

The quality of the steak and the grilling temperature were perfect. The open flame cooking allowed for perfect texture inside and out for my medium rare delmonico. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. They surprised me with extra touches for my birthday (free glass of champagne, dessert, a single rose and a photo of me and my friend) for a special experience. Highly recommend for any steak lover. My friend enjoyed the scallops and the lobster bisque.

I absolutely love Capital Grille these days. It has been a love/hate relationship at times. I have had totally awesome steaks, cooked and seasoned to perfection and then I have had steaks that were very under-cooked. It was a few weeks ago that I experienced the latter. We went on a date to the Capital Grille in Sarasota and ordered 2 steaks, cooked medium-rare. Unfortunately they were delivered very rare and almost raw. This was immediately rectified by them and they also paid for the error, but it still was enough for me to take a star away for it. If I am coming to spend at least $250 for a nice dinner I expect the steak to be dead on the first time, every time. Of course I will be back. You cannot find better service and staff elsewhere in the UTC area.

Had the spinach salad with hot bacon dressing, lobster bisque, and the 24oz Porterhouse. No beer on draft. Just the run of the mill bottled beers, so I was forced to settle for water. The waiter was outstanding, but that's where it ended. The help were constantly adjusting the place settings on adjoining empty tables to look busy. I observed the same silverware adjusted by three different wait staff. Don't come here unless you want to eat an overpriced mediocre steak while listening to annoying jazz. We were treated very nice, but we won't be back. Superior dining to be had elsewhere at a better value.

This place has elegant decor and good service, but the food was hit or miss 'old' (prepared way too far in advance) and not flavorful. The watermelon, tomatoes and arugula in my salad were slimey, tired and soggy from sitting around in dressing too long. My lobster roll was virtually tasteless. Scarcely any lemon juice, celery or salt and pepper. The 'home made' potato chips with vinegar were very nice, tho. My husband had a pre-sliced steak that was over-cooked, dried out looking and feeling, with virtually no 'chile arbole' rub discernible, as advertised. Our dining companions enjoyed their bisque soups. One had the lobster roll entree with the same reaction as I did. The other had scallops which he enjoyed very much. The wait in an uncrowded restaurant for an 11:30 weekday lunch was way too long, especially considering the very apparent prior preparation. Who opens a pretentious, pricy 'fine-dining' restaurant, but uses old school greasy spoon food management techniques? Naive proprietors who don't know that their patrons, who have spent like-money elsewhere, expect food to be fresh at such establishments. I don't complain or send back plates in a restaurant, because if they have the audacity to charge what they do, and serve sad second rate fare, it's not going to be 'made better'. One might compare them to Fleming's, also a chain. But everything I've been served at Flemings is consistently fresh, and seasoned properly. When I eat there, I enjoy everything placed before me because it tastes good and is freshly prepared. That's what you do when you own a restaurant.

Located in Sarasota at the University Town Center Mall, this is a great place to enjoy lunch. The service is on point, the manager even came over to see how everything was. Our server was Daniel and he did a fantastic job. From bringing and refilling drinks to ensuring our experience was a good one. I ordered the lobster roll which comes with a choice of soup or salad and a side of chips which I switched out for the Parmesan truffle fries. Loads of succulent lobster to the point that I ate most of it with a fork, didn't even need the roll. The field of greens salad was a great start. My daughter got the filet mignon and enjoyed every bite. Would highly recommend this at lunch time since it way more affordable. Yes, it is part of the Dardin chain, and that just means they are consistent.

Hands Down, 5 stars from start to finish. My husband and I went with my parents for Valentine's Day. I was slightly apprehensive about trying this location on such a busy night because I have had poor experiences at other restaurants on v-day. Our experience was anything but a disappointment. We all had appetizers that were out of this world. Definitely get the fresh mozzarella- some of the best ever. My husband loved his shrimp cocktail too. I forgot to mention the delicious bread basket they serve. An assortment of artisnal breads and butter with salt. It was an added bonus to such delicious entrees. Our main course was beyond perfection. My dad had the lobster special and raved about it. The 3 of us had steak and they were perfection. My husband had the Kona rubbed sirloin and I was blown away. I avoided ordering it because it sounded strange to me on the menu, but if you don't order this, you're missing out. I had steak au pouvre. The meat and sauce were delish! I love extra rare steak and they cooked it to perfectly for me. More like seared on both sides, rather than cooked. The sides are separate but to die for. The creamed spinach was so rich and decadent as were the potatos au gratin. Truly brought the meal together. Our waitress was 10 stars! Service couldn't have been any better. The only thing I would avoid are the mixed drinks. They were not made properly and quite expensive. Stick to the food! Definitely come here for an unforgettable meal. * they also gave the ladies a rose and box of chocolate covered strawberries which was a nice touch.

Just had cocktails and dinner there on 3/2 with a good friend and have to say it was the best dining experience I have had in a very long time. The executive chef Matt even came to the bar to recommend apps and dinner for us. The calamari is to die for and you can't go wrong with any of their steaks. Premier service and wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended. Will be back again soon.

Do not waste your hard earned money here! This was one of the worst meals I have ever had to pay for. First I had the french onion soup. It was barely warm and therefore the cheese was a big glop of something. I ate very little of it but the server did not notice because she never came to take it away. Then I asked, "Do you have a baked potato?" The server said,"Let me check" and came back with yes. I ordered a baked with butter and sour cream, along with my steak. So the potato comes out and it is again barely warm and I again ask for butter and sour cream. There must be a shortage of it because it finally came out and by that time had no chance of melting on my now cool backed potato because I was given frozen butter?!? My son ordered creamed spinach which is one of their sides, and plain spinach was served. He asked the server about it and she said, Oh, you wanted creamed spinach... Even the corn side (which I think is one of their claims to fame) was cold and almost seemed as if it wasn't cooked. OK-so the question is were they really busy? No not at all. We sat at a table in the bar, so maybe there is not A team server in this area? The steak, filet, was good. Not great... but good. The weird thing is that in Hyde Park, Cincinnati the Capital Grille is hands down amazing. Great bartenders, service, etc. They might need to find a better management team if they want to keep this restaurant open for much longer. I seriously told a couple that were thinking of coming in when I was leaving to save their money and go somewhere else!

We've been to The Capital Grille a number of times in Chicago and have never been disappointed; always receiving 5-star service & food. We had a reservation for the new UTC Sarasota location for Valentine's Day & had the most amazing world-class service from the time we walked through the doors until we left. Everyone was so professional, personable, and friendly. So you may be asking "why 3-stars?".....here's why: 1.) My husband ordered surf & turf (medium-well). After a while our amazing server came by saying our food was coming up next; however shortly after he walked away a 'manager' came by saying the chef didn't like the color on the lobster tail so it would be a little more time because he was remaking it. He offered us complimentary shrimp cocktail for the wait (we declined but he insisted). He walked to the back to get the shrimp cocktail and then our food arrived. Welllll, the lobster tail was deliciously perfect BUT while the steak was tasty, the temperature was well-done. My husband didn't complain because we didn't want to wait longer although the server offered a re-fire. 2.) My Chilean sea bass was out right cold BUT I didn't complain because I didn't want to make a fuss (plus I was full from bread, lobster crab cakes, lobster bisque, & lobster mac-n-cheese...so even if they made it over I wouldn't have eaten it...wasn't worth the extra time). I'd like to stress that the service is amazing and typically so is the food. I think this was just an off day. We had an amazing time and we will return as we know that The Capital Grille prides themselves on great food & service. I'm confident that I'll update my review to 5-stars upon our return.

Dinner was very so so and so was the service. For the price that you spend on the entrees I would expect perfection. From what I observed around me the kitchen had anyone but a chef grilling their signature beef dishes. Will not be going back.

Uninspired. If you want to take a client out for a steak and a big red wine that predictable this is probably your place. Went with four other friends during Taste of Sarasota. The restaurant is in the new mall. The menu had three steak entrees along with a fish and a chicken. All agreed that they were prepared correctly. The Caesar salad was abysmal. The smashed potatoes were good. The green beans with heirloom tomatoes may have been the most interesting item. My steak was very nice, if somewhat pricey, but I could have made it at home. It doesn't take a Johnson & Wales or CIA chef to grill a steak. Nothing on the menu had any passion or culinary interest. The restaurant comes across as a "food factory" - they serve lots of people and make a lot of money. It was a disappointing experience.

Dined here on October 17. Had a reservation for 7:45pm. Our party of 4 was seated right away. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful...pleasant, attentive and informative. All four meals were delicious (mix of seafood and steak entrees). Very happy that there is another upscale option in the area! Congrats on a beautiful restaurant! Looking forward to heading back to hang out in the bar for a more casual evening out.

My boyfriend and I went to Capital Grille last night for our first anniversary dinner. I was blown away by the hospitality of everyone there from the hostess to our waitress, Sue. Our table was decorated in roses and we received complimentary champaign, a small starter and dessert. I ordered the salmon, which was cooked to perfection, light, seasoned perfectly. My boyfriend ordered the porterhouse. Again, not overly seasoned, just a perfect melt in your mouth delight. We had the most wonderful time and this is for sure my new favorite place to be. Can't wait to come back. It's not often you are treated so kindly by a restaurant, usually you are just one more person, but Sue genuinely took the time to let us know we were valued and important. They really know how to make a night magical.

We went here on Valentine's Day without a reservation. We always eat at the bar or community tables and have done so a number of times here. No seats at the bar and we noticed that there were a number of reserved signs on the community tables with empty seats. So I went to the hostess and the manager was standing beside her. When I asked about the community tables she told me they were first come first serve. When I noted the reserve signs she contradicted herself. When I ask the manager he was a rude ass and basically told me to get lost. So we left. The seats remained empty and they lost a couple hundred in revenue. Nice job management.

Easy to give this restaurant 5 Stars. Even though The Capital Grill & Seasons 52 are Darden restaurants, and both upscale, we prefer "The Grill." Both have excellent food, excellent service, consistency, beautiful decor, "The Grill" is by far a more friendly atmosphere. Thus, making one feel special even though their price point is rather high. Finally, the menu items were very recognizable whereas the items on the Seasons menu were a 'bit far out there.' Hope you give both restaurants a try.

Let's start with the obvious, it's expensive!! Ok, now that that is out of the way, this place it GREAT. From the moment we walked in and were seated, it was first class all the way. Our server greeted me by name and wished us a Merry Christmas (it was Christmas Eve). He gave us a full run down of the menu and specials for that night. I started with French onion soup, which was tremendous. My wife and our daughter had salads. They both said how fresh all the ingredients were. I had sea bass which was cooked to perfection and had just the right type and amount of seasons on it. My wife had the scallops, which she totally enjoyed. Our daughter had a steak with gorgonzola on top. I had a bite and it seemed to just melt in my mouth. We shared the "Sam" mashed potatoes. I don't know who Sam is, but he knows potatoes. Between the waiter and his assistant, our glasses were never empty nor were there ever dirty dishes in front of us. The service was some of the best we have ever had at any place we have eaten. When we were done, the offer for dessert was given to us. Not wanting to be rude, we looked at the many temptations. Unable to make up our minds, we decided to pass. However, our server would not hear of it, with it being our first time there. He insisted on treating us to a post dinner treat of his choice. When he returned he had a sample of the Cheesecake and fresh fruit, along with a piece of chocolate cake. It was not only the perfect size, it was so good that when we go back we will order one or both next time for sure. Over all, this was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. The combination of the service and the food were not short of tremendous.

Have dined twice, but only in the bar area since there was no availability in the restaurant. Bartenders Kiera and David were there both times, and provided great service both times. Food was great too - seared ahi, lobster and crab cakes, lamb chops and everything else was delicious!!
