I went here for the first time tonight with my family. It was just amazing ice cream. It is really nice watching them make it right in front of you. Has so many different choices to pick from and crest your own. The two ladies were very nice and helpful with everything. Seemed to be knowledgeable about how it works with the freezing part. Will be back for sure. My son just loves this place.

We have been here twice, once on each trip. I liked the concept first time and really liked it the second. For the lactose intolerant, they can use almond or coconut base which is easily covered up with all the flavors. It's not your traditional icecream shop for me it a better because I can have any flavor I want. Different texture than regular icecream but just as good. Go once for the experience then go back for the good icecream.

Had the cream with coffee flavor alongside espresso powder topping, it was really delicious. Spoke with the owner, really cool dude. Check it out!

If I could give this place 10 stars I would! This place is awesome. Choose your size, base, flavors, and mix-ins or choose some of their signature combinations and they mix it and freeze it with...wait for it...nitrous oxide. They literally turn your liquid base (milk, cream, almond milk, lactose free milk...) into ice cream before your eyes. There are endless options and staff is friendly and helpful. We will return!

Pretty cool ice cream joint. Honestly the reason we stopped here after a long day at the beach was because of the girl on the corner who had a tank of nitrogen and was giving out free samples. But seriously... that happened. We had a sample of the coffee flavored ice cream and decided to give it a whirl on our way back to the car. Upon approaching the business we saw it was featured on Shark Tank so that's pretty cool! Walking into the shop I felt like something was missing. It felt open and not very cozy... Maybe that isn't what they're going for, I don't know. The line was fairly long but moved quickly. It reminded me of Cold Stone Creamery but all the ice cream was made using nitrogen right in front of your very eyes. Pretty cool. I don't recall what flavor we got but we ended up splitting a dish among three people. It's a cool ice cream shop to check out, very entertaining to see the nitrogen process, but I prefer my ice cream a little more creamy.

We were visiting the area and after much hype we decided to give Subzero a try. The location was in a very busy section of Siesta Key. The store was really nice and the staff very helpful. The experience, well to be honest I was expecting some showmanship. What we got was hourly workers who obviosly wish they were somewhere else. Your making ice cream with nitrogen, its cool! The ice cream was good but great would be a stretch. I think it was better than Marble Slab, and Coldstone. Better doesn't cut it in my opinion because those places are just a step up from store bought. I was expecting greatness unfortunately greatness was not on the menu.

This is more like a 2.5. The experience is good for the boys. It's always fun to watch a science experiment but the ice cream just wasn't that good. We tried three different bases and none of them had that creaminess you want from ice cream. I'll save my calories.

Awesome - reminds me of a better cold some creamery!

Sub Zero is definitely a huge highlight of Siesta Key. Although it is slightly hidden, as it is not on the main road, they make themselves known with sampling on the street and often come highly recommended. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the process by which they make the ice cream is both interesting and scientific. Best ice cream on the Key, by far, Big Olaf can suck it!

It was absolutely amazing!!!!!! I would recommend it to anyone in the area or close by... The idea itself is so fun, plus then when you add how good everything is plus the awesome customer service its a win win situation. I have been here tons of times and keep planning on coming back even though I live super far from it. :)

LOVED! Hubs and I tried this place Saturday night and really enjoyed the customization options (good values on the recommended mixes vs the 'build your own' option). I had the key lime voltage (tasted JUST like key lime pie, in ice cream form) and hubs went with a choc-PB concoction. Both were great! We both picked the 'premium' ice cream base, but there are many other choices, for taste/dietary preferences (lactose-free, almond, custard, etc) and size options.

This is an interesting concept for a different kind of frozen treat. Definitely a must try. The service was friendly and they explained all our options. You start with choosing your size, the small looks too small but the medium was too much. You then choose your base (premium ice cream, custard, frozen yoguart, etc). We got one with premium ice cream and one with fro yo -- def recommend the premium, it was smoother. You then choose from a list of a bazillion flavors, pretty much anything you can imagine and add your toppings. It is all mixed in a bowl and then frozen with liquid nitrogen right in front of you. We tried chocolate with peanut butter premium and a peanut butter, fudge with reeses and brownies made with fro yo. You can get in a waffle cone or a cup. Both were good and I'd like to go back to try other mixtures.

Ice cream was great, interesting concept. The girls behind the counter were energetic and fun, but the bearded guy came up from the back, pointed for the girls to do things and just dropped my wife's order on the countertop. Had the personality of a rock. Hope he was just having a bad day as that will hurt an otherwise fun experience

The ultimate ice cream experience! At this hidden gem you get a custom made treat. First you order your base (ice cream, yoghurt, custard, etc.), then select your choice of toppings from an array of chocolate and fruity sweets. Your concoction is mixed, and, then before your very eyes, frozen with liquid nitrogen. The counter overflows with dry ice and you feel like you're in the best music video ever. Then you actually get to eat the thing. Yummy.

We were on vacation eating a late breakfast across the street from Sub Zero. Being the ice cream fan that I am, I made my husband and son go in with me after our breakfast. The owners and employees were super friendly and explained the concept of their liquid nitrogen-frozen ice creams. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try it, even though it was only 11am. I have to say the custard base is my favorite (admittedly we went back here four times before vacation was over). It's unique and I've only found custard ice cream one other time (in California). The list of flavors and add-ins is exhaustive, you'd be hard pressed to come up with a flavor they don't have. Go in and check it out! What a fun place to get a great treat! And there are plenty of options for your health nuts, too... (soy milk, lacotse free, etc).

Awesome idea! They make the ice cream base and then freeze it using liquid nitrogen right in front of you! They have an ice cream, custard, no sugar added, lactose free, and almond milk base. You choose a flavor which they flavor using the torino syrups, like what they use in coffee. Then you add an add in like sprinkles, cookie dough, candy, etc. Tons of flavor choices and add ins! They also have already put together combinations you can order. The texture looks a bit weird but it tastes the same and tastes wonderful! A bit time consuming since they make it right then.

LOVE this nerdy little ice cream place. Dr. Who and Breaking Bad fans will appreciate the menu. The cinnamon bun ice cream sensation is to die for, and was the highlight of the night. Big Olaf's who?

Really tasty ice cream, and such a cool concept. On top of that everyone that works there is so nice, helpful and they all really know their stuff. Strongly strongly strongly recommend.

Ew. I had gone to a Sub Zero in the Fort Lauderdale area last summer and the ice cream was amazing. At that time there were only a few locations and it really was the ice cream quality that impressed me. I was very underwhelmed this time. Everything seemed very franchise-y when we walked in to this location and I did not realize when I ordered that what I would get would be nothing like what I had last year. The girls who work here are sunny and cute, but the ice cream just is not good at all. And it's EXPENSIVE - I would not say that if the ice cream were good. I don't complain about how much things cost unless they suck and I just felt taken advantage of walking out of this place. When we left I noticed that this is a business featured on shark tank. That makes total sense. This was a business that sold out in order to grow, and they lost quality in doing so. Now this is a gimmicky ice cream chain, not a uniquely awesome ice cream experience. I just felt like it was horrible and it made me angry that it was not the same stuff I expected. Needless to say I am never going to any sub-zero ever again. They lost what made it special-quality ice cream.

I thought it was just ok. Not bad but not great. Kid seemed to enjoy it. That's all that mattered to me.

Great combinations, delicious ice cream (even lowfat and sugar free), and great customer service! Honestly found no problems in this place and left satisfied!

Great selection. Neat concept. According to the staff, the rapid freezing by the nitrogen prevents the formation of ice crystals in the ice cream or yogurt. This makes it much creamier than normal ice cream or frozen yogurt. The lines are long at times, but move fast. The staff is friendly and the prices are more than fair for the resort town of Siesta Key. But...both my son and I would not go back. Good idea. But the taste was a bit off for the two of us. If you are in the area, try it.

Subzero was a good experience with the kids. They loved the chance to totally customize their order and watch the liquid nitrogen do it's work at -321 degrees. Instant Ice Cream - pretty cool! Seriously though, it was really good. It is a hot Florida August, so the chance to cool off is welcome whenever you get the opportunity. They have lots of selections for your base, from a premium 14% butterfat cream all the way to almond milk, which is about 10% of the calories. Not as creamy, obviously, but still really tasty. Watching the whole process and getting to control all aspects of the finished product is novel, and the kids get to watch science, food science anyways. If you need to cool off subzero beckons. Don't be afraid of science or delicious ice cream/custard/fat free sugar free whatever. It's your call.

Great ice cream and super creamy, the marshmallow cream is awesome and their sensations all look great. Key lime voltage is also to die for.

Wonderful spot!! First timers at Sub Zero, they gave us wonderful information to select our favorite flavors and mix to create yumminess. Each order is individual and lets you be creative in your ice cream selections. It is so fun to watch the liquid cream instantly become ice cream. It is all about the amazing process.

Pricey, but you get a nice portion. It's got a decent hook with the N7 - not totally sold on the final product. It reminds me of the I cream equivalent of subway with the production line. The staff do fumble on orders and they seemed easily confused upon check out.

Just like all the Sub-Zeros, it's awesome ice cream. I even really like their coconut oil based ice cream. They'll make just about anything you ask for. The place is pricey for an ice cream store as you're paying a premium for the experience.

If you want a new ice cream experience GO HERE! They freeze the ice cream right in front of your eyes with liquid nitrogen! It is very fun to watch! As for the ice cream itself, it tastes like standard ice cream with many different flavors to choose from.

Science in action! You've seen it on Top chef and other cooking shows but now is your chance to taste some ice cream made with liquid nitrogen. What is not to love about using something that is about -200C to make food? There are really too many choices and I bet you can make some awful things but start out with one of the "recommended" recipes. I tried the Bernoulli Brûlée, which was caramel, dulce de leche twix, vanilla cinnamon and toffee. Supper yummy. They put your choice of ingredients in a stainless steal bowl and then pump some liquid nitrogen onto it and mix like crazy. Out comes some very cream yummy ice cream. Very smoth no ice crystals at all. It does melt fast so don't waste too much time taking pictures for yelp. You can get yogurt to, but really? why mess around with that? This place has been open about 2 weeks they said and it sucked down a side street but you can see it from the main drag going through the village. It is across from thew "eat here" so you should be able to find it. There is a second store on clark that has been open longer. Science is cool! so why not use it to make interesting food?

This is ice cream and yogurt made right before your eyes with a liquid nitrogen flash-freeze process. Okay, so science meets ice cream. I can dig it. My husband likes anything geeky, science-y, and stuff and I just love ice cream, so it was a great idea for us. I don't have kids, but I'm sure they'd love this place! Essentially you pick your size, your base (premium, custard, non-dairy, low-fat, yogurt, or soy/rice), your flavor, and any mix-ins you want. Bonus? Pick as many flavors as you'd like for no extra charge. The first mix-in is free. I tried the huckleberry with hunks of Kit-Kat in it. Yum! I was pleasantly surprised with this ice cream.

A+ for the experience and A+ for the Ice Cream. We were treated to a custom tour and walkthrough of how they introduce the Nitrogen to the cream. Kids absolutely loved it (ok, and I did too).

Best ice cream in Siesta Key/Sarasota. Yep, even beats Olaf's. My wife and I were in the area for our honeymoon a few weeks ago. One day we were walking through Siesta Key beach and there's a guy on the corner wearing SubZero labeled clothes and standing next to a big tank of liquid nitrogen. He offered us a sample of ice cream, pointed to SubZero behind him, and told us how they make all their ice cream fresh to order with liquid nitrogen. We were definitely intrigued, and the sample was delicious. The next day, we went to SubZero. As we were looking at the menu and trying to make our selection, we hear one of the other customers say "Whoa! Sonic Screwdriver!" Since my wife and I are both big fans of Doctor Who, our ears perked up! "What??" Yup, they had a whole separate menu of special Doctor Who themed ice cream concoctions. I had a "Weeping Angel" and my wife had a "Sonic Screwdriver". The ice cream was absolutely delicious AND we had a very nice chat with fellow fans of the show who were there getting ice cream, they were from Arkansas, SUPER nice people. It made our entire day to connect with fellow fans and enjoy such delicious ice cream on our honeymoon. Yes, we've been to the other ice cream places in that area, especially the legendary ones (Olaf's), but Sub Zero's taste and fun outdoes them all. You get these phenomenal ice cream treats and they make them right in front of you. It's like you're on a crazy cooking show every single time. We even went back to Sub Zero a second time before our honeymoon was over, and you'd better believe we will be back every single time we're in town.

Great ice cream. So strange to see them freeze it all right there with liquid nitrogen! I got the low fat base and it was delicious. Excellent service!

Good stuff! Came here with six other family members, and everyone left happy. Although a more expensive dessert option, we were happy with the portion sizes. My son is already asking to return.

Saw Sub Zero on Shark Tank and wanted to try this Fresh concept on how to make ice cream from an array of fresh ingredients. It's nice if you want to have your dessert made from heavy cream to non-fat milk, or even lactose-free soy milk. Actually been here twice; once towards the end of January and again the following week. Both times were great; 1st time I chose to have heavy-premium cream and the 2nd time, soy-milk. I love coffee, so that was my flavor of choice. Must say that it tasted better with the premium cream but I know the soy-milk was better for me. Will probably be back again during one of our family outings since I rarely do dessert without them.
