Three strike and you are out. I have no idea what happened but the food has changed from fantastic to inedible. Even the owner who was always smiling and so personable, a big reason we went, has seemed to have stopped smiling. Something's up and it's a bummer. All three times an aloof waitress helped us that can't seem to get my order right at all. Took almost a half hour to get a drink refill let alone the check once I was finished. I can't tell if she even understands what I'm saying as some dishes have no spice and others are so hot that I had to send them back. Not very consistent anymore. This was once my favorite their restaurant. First, we brought a large party and told them "no spice at all" for the older folks in the group, honest to goodness it came out Thai hot. That's excruciating for someone that doesn't like spice AT ALL. Then, they took the food from the table when we complained and literally washed it off and returned it sopping wet, yet charred in some spots. You washed it off and sent it back to me and I had to pay for it? Yikes. I was better off before! Went back and my curry was a soupy mess, what happened to the deliciously marinated tofu and savory sauce I knew and loved? Portions have gotten smaller and perhaps their new disregard for the quality they we're once known for is reflecting in their dishes. New cook? Not wanting to be so hasty, we returned for some pickup. Asked for medium spice, and they usually were very good at seasoning to taste. Got home and there was no spice at all and the noodles and pork were completely undercooked. It's inexcusable if I have to add spices and recook the food on my own stove at home. Three strikes and you are out, there are too many good restaurants in town to have to sit through poor service and mediocre food this many times in a row. Felt like it was a disservice to yelp to leave my positive review up after the level of quality has fallen so low. Dont know why stuff like this happens, but the truth hurts.

I wanted to be blown away from this place after reading the accolades but I just wasn't. the food was good and as thai food goes i'd say this was a mediocre meal. im a sucker for Thai and i cant even muster up a good feeling other than the hostess was very sweet and checked in on us often to see how we were doing.

I had a most excellent meal in this pleasant, spacious dining room of Siam Orchid. I was SO excited to find vegetarian gluten-free dumplings in their Appetizer section! They were 'melt in my mouth' scrumptious! My friend raved about the Gai Tom Kha soup and I sampled her cucumber salad, which was perfectly marinated. They were happy to make the Noodles from Heaven entree vegetarian for me too! Yay! Love this place, can't wait to return!

Really excellent Thai food. I have been coming here for around 8 years and the food is consistently delicious. Plus they have some Thai dishes that no other Thai restaurant in the area offers. It's the real thing.

Our favorite Thai food in Sarasota! Everything is always spiced perfectly and food is served quickly! They also have the nicest staff.

Stopped by for lunch right at noon... and wondered if the place was even open. When we walked in, there was nobody around, and no music on. It was dead silent. The server/hostess greeted us and let us sit anywhere. There was one other table while we were there, and the music never came on. Almost eery. Even though it's not on the lunch menu, we ordered panang curry, which came out to $10 per plate with some white rice. The curry (and the soup, spring rolls, and rice) was all very good, but the meal price seemed padded to be higher. Our bill was $31 - and since cans of soda cost $2.50 apiece (and the spring rolls were $4! for one per person!!) it seems all the little sides add up to a lot of cash. Service was really friendly and the food was good, but the weird ambiance and high prices won't be bringing me back. I can get as good Thai from a place that has a CD player that charges less around Tampa.

Thai food is just amazing. After reading the reviews, I made sure to stop at Sarasota on my way to Miami from Tampa. The food was fresh and tasty. Will go back. Cheers!

At first, when I saw the reviews for this restaurant, I didn't know if I'd like it, but I enjoy Thai food, so I tried it out. The restaurant took its time, so they waited for us to finish our drinks, and then they gave us our soup, and when we finished our soup, they gave us our meal. I didn't like this, but this is what they do in Thailand, so I just lived with it. When they gave us the food, I tried it, and it was DELICIOUS! I would highly recommend this restaurant.

My first and last time here. Service was very slow, and the place was almost empty. Came for lunch and my go to Thai dish is pad kee mao or drunken noodles. Normally made with wide egg noodles, veggies, sauce, and your choice of meat. Well it wasn't on the lunch menu, which I found odd. But they said they could make it anyway and I ordered it with chicken. After about 5 or 10 minutes I was delivered a bowl of miso type soup, which was just ok. The accompanying spring roll was the highlight of the meal. Waited another 10 minutes for my lunch. Was disappointed right away to see a smallish portion with little meat or veggies, and narrow pad Thai rice noodles instead of the wide egg noodles. I asked for medium heat, which was right, but that's all I tasted, and oil. Very little flavor at all. Final surprise was when I got the bill. Everything on the lunch menu was $7.95. But my lunch, which I've seen on every other Thai menu around the country, was created just for me, apparently, and so was $9.95! Another gripe, it was quite dark inside and there was no music playing at all! I would skip this place unless they make some big improvements.

Have no idea why this has 4 stars! This place is not good. I had the yellow curry with chicken and potatoes. The curry was very watery and had no flavor. It was more of a coconut soup with a whisper of curry. The entire dish was very bland. Would never go back.

Eventually I may stop being shocked about how many awesome Thai restaurants there are in Sarasota, but so far, I am still in the constantly-pleasantly-surprised phase since moving here from NYC a year and a half ago. Siam Orchid is next door to my favorite Tuesday night yoga class (6:30 on Tuesdays at Family Tree Yoga) so Gabriel and I stopped in for a quick dinner there recently. There were only a couple of tables with people at them, so we were told to sit anywhere we liked. Menus and ice water were brought over right away by a very sweet woman (maybe the owner?) and we took a few minutes to decide what we wanted to order. We asked if the soup that comes with the entrees was vegetarian and were told that it wasn't, but that she would 'take care of us'. Cold cucumber salad in a light vinegar dressing was brought over shortly and we both enjoyed it very much. It was colorful, refreshing and mild in flavor. For our entrees we shared the classic shrimp Pad Thai and the Ginger Tofu. The portions were on the small side but SO delicious, and definitely filling enough for the two of us. The price was a little more than we thought it should be given the small portions, but the food was prepared so nicely- light and healthy , not drowning in sauces, and with super fresh ingredients, that we will probably return again. Yum!

My wife and I have been going there for several years, The owners are two charming older ladies who are very attentive and take care of their customers. The food has always been consistently good and the tasty curry meals are always delicious. the curry ranges from mild to nuclear upon individual request. Great place.

Stopped here for lunch today, the soup appetizers was a very soggy rice soup with unidentifiable spring rolls. The wife had a long black hair in her rice. I had a $9.95 bowl of "punch you in the face" green curry, I love spices but WOW. Decor is similar to your uncle basement, you know the uncle who still lives at home and he's 55 and plays video games. Won't be back, ever. The waitress was very nice, that's why SO gets 1 star.

I've had better. The amount of veggies and meat was minimal at best. Meal tasted pretty good though, the rice noodles in Thai sauce was the only highlight. I had the spring roll appy not bad but nothing eventfuI so I'd pass for the $4. I can't speak for their other entrees but mine wasn't bad. I stumbled upon the place but would not favor a return.

Worst Thai I have ever eaten...even the pathetic Pad Thai at Pei Wei is better than the sad plate of bland noodles I got at Siam Orchid. We came in around 530pm (a normal time in Sarasota) and the place was dead. No take out orders, no other diners. The staff was just hanging out in front of the bar. We took a look at the prices...pretty expensive for Thai and the menu was not how I remembered it from 5 or 6 years ago. We ordered the chicken satay to start, followed by green curry chicken and Pad Thai. The waitress/host brought us "chicken soup" which was clear broth with some gross rice in the bottom. The broth smelled like dirty socks and tasted like rotten chicken. It literally made me gag and I downed my ice tea, while praying for the satay's speedy arrival. The satay was chewy and the sauce was just meh. For 7 dollars, I expected more than four skewers with tiny pieces of chicken. Next came the main dishes. The green curry came in a small bowl and it's accompanying rice bowl was twice as big. The rice was bland and gloppy and the curry was super watery. We ordered mild, but this was definitely on the hot side of medium. A few sad veggies (mostly broccoli???) floating around. Now here's the kicker....the chicken had the same rotten taste as the soup. I picked out all the chicken immediately. After the chicken was picked out, what was left was basically green, spicy-but-not-flavorful water. The Pad Thai was also sad...no spice, no peanut taste, no nothing. I asked for the green curry to go (I felt badly about leaving the whole thing) and asked for the check. The bill was 40 even for two tiny entrees, 4 chicken satay and two ice teas. We left around 615pm...still no customers in sight and the phone had yet to ring. Bottom line: nasty, flavorless, and expensive. IHOP across the street would have been a hell of a lot better.

my husband and i love this place. we're definitely regulars. we spent over a month in thailand, ate at all the local places, speak the language and this is the best thai we've had in the US. He loves spicy so they make him thai hot, he never orders from the menu. the two sisters are great they know us and our family. we had our rehearsal dinner there and the whole family loved it. they accommodated the ones that wanted spice, no fish and spicy. it was a great time and we've gotten lots of others to try thai food now because of Siam.

Best Thai! I've had about 10 different items and loved them all. Seafood red curry is my favorite. Nam Sod Pork Salad..omg! The owner is absolutely precious. She made me feel like she had been waiting for me all her life when I went in the very first time, and she treats me the same every time I return. I could not love her more, and naturally when you have an owner like that, the wait staff is excellent. Everything is so fresh. I once saw here chopping thai peppers and lemon grass making her special spice by hand. She is not afraid to kick up the heat to Thai times two! I love this place!

We are vegetarian. The tofu ginger was ok but nothing special. The tofu tasted like it had been fried two hours ago. I was pleased that they made a special cucumber salad for us instead of chicken rice soup. That was pretty good. The service was attentive. It is clear that locals love coming here and enjoy knowing the owners. I wish they had other things for vegetarians beside tofu with different vegetables. I wish they had noodle dishes with vegetables.

I can't believe I get to be the first to review this place! In one word- excellent. I've eaten at probably close to a hundred Thai restaurants in my life, and this one is definitely one of the best. My wife's family lives in Sarasota, so when we got married a few years back we went here for our rehearsal dinner. Many on my side of the family (my dad's Canadian) had never tried Thai food, but they all were all good sports, and they claimed to enjoy it. More importantly, we had a few foodies in the bunch who are more critical about these things (myself included), and they all raved about the food. Not surprisingly, Focus on Thai Cuisine magazine gave them the "best authentic Thai cuisine in the US" rating, and they get visited by the likes of the Thai Minister of Culture. They take pride in the fact that they don't use "monosodium glutamate, preservatives, extra oils, sweeteners, or other taste enhancers," and they have been awarded the privilege to use the "Thailand Diversity & Refinement Brand." This logo is awarded by the Thai Ministry of Commerce of Thailand to those few restaurants who have met the standards for serving Thai food using only authentic Thai ingredients and preparation methods. I now make it a habit to visit these guys at least once, whenever we visit her folks. My favorites: Start off with Tod Mon Pla and a sample appetizer plate, and perhaps some Som Tum and Tom Yum Goong. Their seafood is amazing (this IS Florida), but I also am partial to their curries. Their duck dishes (there are at least 4 or 5) are also outstanding- tender not dry. The veggie dishes are pretty much all tofu based, and are pretty flavorful from what my veggie aunt told me. They also have some Italian-Thai fusion pasta dishes, but I've never ventured out that far. They have a small selection of wine, sake, and beer. Entrees are $10 for most curries to $25 for the upper end lobster and soft-shell crab dishes (my faves, of course). Worth a visit to Sarasota for.

I can't believe people think this place is good. I drove all the way out here on other's recommendations and I'm totally disappointed. My wife got the most watery curry that I ever saw - and the only vegetable that was in it was broccoli!?? I never saw that before. My pad thai was tasteless and white (no tamarind sauce, which usually gives you that nice orange color). Also, I thought it was overpriced for what we got. I'll never go back.

This restaurant was very good; the service was fantastic and the food was fresh, flavorful, and arrived dead-on with the levels of spiciness our party had requested. The appetizer sampler is a good way to start; it was just enough for 4 of us to share. The fish cakes may have been my favorite on the plate. Our server, who happened to be the owner of the restaurant, was extremely helpful to the table next to ours in offering recommendations from the massive menu because 3 out of the 4 in their group had never eaten Thai food before. A number of regulars walked in and warmly greeted the owner, even with hugs. This is clearly a place where you feel so comfortable and welcome that it can transcend the food. Our entrees arrived fairly quickly, in large enough portions to allow for plenty of sharing. I ordered the panang beef, which, frankly, left me fairly disappointed. It was spicy, but lacked flavor other than that- the Thai places I frequent in Chicago just seemed to do more for me. Perhaps serving it with a jasmine rice instead of the plain white rice may have helped a bit? Anyway, the other entrees in our group were great. I'd love to go back and try something else.

I have eaten at many of the Thai restaurants in the Venice/Sarasota area and Siam Orchid is one of the best I've tried. I am so super satisfied with the service and the delicious food I can't wait to return. The food was perfectly seasoned and fresh you won't be disappointed.

The best Thai food I've found yet! Authentic ingredients and delicious appetizers, salads, noodles, curries....you get the idea! My favorites are: spring rolls, fried dumplings, beef salad (the best I've found anywhere!!) cucumber salad, tom kai guy (ask for it medium spicey) massaman curry, an of course pad thai. I never deviate and am never disappointed! And the two sisters that own the restaurant are friendly and gracious. It's always a little quiet but don't let that deter you, the food is worth it! I've been going there for over ten years and have NEVER been disappointed!

I have eaten here many many times. It never disappoints. From the beef with broccoli to the pad Thai with pork, I have many favorite dishes. Currently I am loving their Kaeng Karee (yellow curry). I also recommend the cucumber salad and spring rolls.
