These guys are really passionate about what they do and it shows. We had coffee there everyday on our vacation in Sarasota and it stacks up to anything you can get in NYC, Boston's North End, or even in Europe. Besides pulling a world class espresso and making a great cappuccino, the service is impeccable and the baked goods are really fresh. From what I understand they get them from various places, so you may not get the same things that were available when we were there, but the cranberry and chocolate muffins were some of the best I've had. We also tried the cold brew for the first time - really interesting - recommend it to anyone who likes to try new things.

This place is for the true coffee aficionado. Though don't let this place intimidate you the staff are willing to help you pick the right cup for you. They source a small select few of specially coffee and brew it too perfection. Though the prices aren't the cheapest, but it is worth a little splurge. The biggest issue with the place is the parking. The area is fairly busy with a number of other restaurants and eateries close by.

If you are a purveyor of specialty coffee, and you happen to be in or near Sarasota, go to Perq. I ordered a Gibraltar. It was delicious. Actually, maybe my first single-origin gibraltar, since (it seems) most baristas use blends for espresso. This one was bright, fruity, and wonderful. I think it was closer to a 1:2 espresso to milk ratio (I prefer 1:1) but why split hairs--the taste was on point and the pour was artful. I also shared a pour-over of their specialty grade geisha with my wife. It was poured well and tasted great. They serve their coffee in insulated glass mugs (my preference) so you can enjoy your coffee with all the senses. This was a treat. The friendly barista allowed us to sample the iced coffees. We will enjoy one of those when we return. They were both good, but the nitro was my favorite. Their baked goods are...well, good. They have a good selection and they are well above your chain donut shop. The atmosphere is a 10/10. The baristas are skilled and inviting. The coffee is tasty. Need I continue? Dear Sarasota, never go to Starbucks again. Go to Perq Coffee Bar and learn how coffee is supposed to taste.

The BEST coffee/espresso EVER! We have been in search of a true coffee/espresso establishment since moving to the area, and FINALLY found this place! The two gentlemen werevl very friendly and make your visit a truly amazing experience! We will definitely be back.

In Portland we are coffee snobs, I got to say here at Perq they make such good coffee, and to make things better they brew Portlands one and only Heart, and Coava coffee.

Absolutely delightful! A must go! Both the coffee end the service are superb. Perfect place to unwind, collaborate, close a deal or have great conversation. A must go if you're in Sarasota. Very elegantly decorated too!

Killer place! I would say it's in my top 5 places in the country. Their cold brew is just unreal. Definitely A+

True coffee connseurs will appreciate this bar. It's a BAR for coffee not a coffee house for foofoos. It's pure - so if you really want coffee (without the add ons that ruin it) - you won't be disappointed. They tend to source small roasters not used by the chains. A sip will make everything subside - ummm. It's the second best coffee in this country imo.

Probably the coolest place in Sarasota. They had all options for people with allergies (almond milk, soy etc) and they had amazing coffee options from the best brewers in the USA. The atmosphere was even cooler than places in Milwaukee. They even sold Rishi tea which was pretty awesome. Will be back here next time I'm visiting my grandma!

For once in my life, I am speechless. Want to know why? Here is the story... I woke up before sunrise as usual, but instead of hanging at the office, my friend decided to show me best coffee nook in Sarasota. Of course, I am skeptical... I mean, I hang out in soooo many coffee houses in NYC and Paris that it becoming bad/good habit, cannot be that coffee in Sarasota would be that impressive, right? I was wrong... I am so happy I was wrong, too! This is holy grail of all coffee houses. Order flat white, and you will understand. I had it with almond milk and Elida roast. It was smooth as butter. So smooth, you want to close your eyes and dream of that first sip forever. The only coffee that I remember being this good was at little hole-in-a-wall near Louvre... It been years, but I still remember it... I must add, design of this shop is awesome as well. The attention to little details, and quality of finishes is outstanding. The precise fit of paneling on the bar, the tables, chairs, cold brew jars lined up under spotlights, just genius. And Lollypop queen desserts are cute - bites, macarons and bars, just perfect little snacks with coffee. Parking up front, easy to get in and out... So, it is time to get back to the office, and my friend asked me what I liked the most about Perq. I just looked up from my perfect coffee cup with beautiful leaf drawn on top of it, and said one word: "everything". A must stop for coffee lovers.

There's a whole coffee language going on here with which I'm unfamiliar. All I know is there were no sugar free options or vanilla lattes, and the server didn't know a blueberry from a raspberry. ...it was a tart and unpleasant muffin....so I did not try the coffee but other reviewers seem to like it.

This place had such a warm and inviting atmosphere! They know their espresso and coffee! Makes you feel like you're having cup of joe in Portland or Seattle. The employees are very helpful and nice! Hands down a cool place to relax in!

This place is awesome. I got a Matcha Sweet White with almond milk along with their chocolate caramel shortbread bar. Perfection. Ambience is super low key and the bar itself is pretty spiffy. Prices are on par for what you get. I would suggest coming during off peak hours if you want some quiet or laptop time. There are very few power sockets from what I saw.

Unbeatable. Such a gem for this town. Knowledgable staff that take their craft seriously. Either you are a recreational coffee drinker, or you are a lifer. This place is for the lifers. Cold brews, nitro coffee (please try this) and many other varieties make this a stand out coffee shop. Welcoming and decorated impeccably. I'd take the biggest coffee snob I know along side a coffee newbie, I'd bring my kid (for some lemonade) and my grandfather (who dressed like a hipster before it was cool). It's a good place, not pretentious, quality drinks that can not be matched anywhere else in town, good vibe and did I mention just great frickin' coffee?

Since moving to Portland, I have met more people from Florida than ever in my life. I find this strange because I used to live on the east coast. I thought it had to do with getting as far away as possible, both geographically and culturally. However, this bias was disproved after visiting Sarasota. Ok, not Sarasota as a whole, but at least Perq Coffee Bar. Not only do they serve delicious, quality coffee (Coava and Heart directly from Portland!) but it feels like somewhere I would go in Portland as well. The average age was significantly lower than everywhere else I checked out in Sarasota, I saw plaid, and glasses, and even bicycles! (Ok, they were attached to a bike rack on cars, but still... partial credit). The decor is very clean and simple. The pastry counter looked extremely tempting, and seemed to embrace Portland's donut loving culture as well. I didn't try anything though because I spent all my money on a $6 pour over. This is definitely the only drawback, but I guess I'm used to getting this coffee directly from the source and without sales tax (maybe THAT'S why everyone moves?) Anyway, Perq Coffee, thank you for providing a wonderful place to study on my spring break (ugh!), making me feel at home, and caffeinating me in the most delicious way.

Very cool place with great service, looked amazing! if you're looking for your typical coffee drinks, this place may have a few surprises for you as they don't really follow the traditional plan. I found it to be very enjoyable but someone is looking for the standard Starbucks supper sugared up latte might consider this place to be a little coffee snobby (if that's a thing). I think it's all in what you expect when you walk through the door; I found it to be most excellent place.

Sarasota, you've done it again!!! We love this coffee shops, and being from NYC, we can be very judgy about third wave coffee places. We got the Kuma geisha from Panama as espresso and as a Kalita. It was well prepared, flavorful, and opened up really beautifully as time went on. I would suggest it more as a brew coffee though. Baristas here are friendly and knowledgeable, and if you don't know much about third wave coffee, this is a great, non-intimidating shop!

Some of the best coffee I've ever had, I had some kind of latte and I only take away 1 star as it was REALLY expensive. Still, it was a nice treat on vacation.

Perq is back on my list of good places to have coffee just because I really love their Gibraltar, it's so delicious that I crave it every day. Plus made with their decaf coffee it' really flavorful. I also like the atmosphere and the decor. I still don't like their American style brew but that's a personal preference. They do need to offer coconut milk too, please?

So good, Sarasotans actually wrote reviews on Yelp! It's amazing to find any restaurants in down town Sarasota to have more than 20 reviews. My husband orders black cold brew coffee. I ordered cold brew with almond milk and simple syrup. We are fans. I think the cold brew black tastes sour, but with my adds, it was delicious. Also, the baristas are all kind and helpful when we barraged them with questions.

I was excited to try this place, I've heard good things! Well the atmosphere was chill and nicely decorated. The menu was hard to read. The employees seemed liked they had somewhere else to be! I got a flat white and it tasted like soup! It cost 5! This is worse then Starbucks and it taste like crap! I might not be a fancy coffee drinker then but I want to enjoy my coffee. Then they ask you for a tip? For the bad rude service? Not impressed! Sticking to panera or Starbucks!

  • David M.

I wanted to like this place but unfortunately my drink just wasn't that good. Care went into producing my latte, but the flavor was not good. They only have whole milk so if you want anything else you will not be happy. The music is kind of loud, and the chairs are uncomfortable. They had a few pastry selections, but not much.

  • Laura S.

Deeeelicious coffee. They have coffee-making down to an art/science here. The staff can answer all of your coffee related questions, and then some. I love the providencia for my flat whites! It's also really interesting to watch the care and detail they put into making each cup. Highly recommended if you're any sort of coffee snob! I also tried their pumpkin wheel which was really tasty, and their cinnamon wheel, which was a little dense for me, but had good flavor. All in all a really cool spot!

Finding a decent coffee place in Sarasota is pretty hard. But not impossible. And Perq is more than decent. Furnished in concrete and wood, this is the place to be spotted if you want to be hailed as the next top coffee snob. Perq boasts different beans that they source from various places around the world. More than that, their menu offers selections ranging from flat white, the piccolo and more! You are sure to find you the perfect coffee to milk ratio. The latte art is also impeccable thanks to the care of the many baristas who pour their heart into your daily cuppa. They also have their cold brew which they are so proud of -- but it veers towards the sour side. Not a coffee lover? The Matcha lemonade is a concoction to die for. So is their matcha green tea latte. Just try anything. There will probably be more hits than misses The atmosphere is chill. A place where you can watch the day go by. Baristas and guests are always nice. If you're not a fan of that, they have Kinfolk in store. Oh and lollicake pops. Oh yes.

This place was incredible! What a little gem to find in Sarasota, Florida while visiting my mom. Great coffee, great decor. I took a couple of pictures of the place because I enjoyed it so much. They obviously put a lot of thought into what they did with the place. Also had some really enjoyable conversation with the Barista while waiting for our coffee. I had a really good pour over. Can't remember the exact name of the coffee, but it was very flavorful, and naturally sweet (ish). Would highly recommend checking it out when you're in the area. It absolutely KILLS any other place that we found in the area. :)

Perq has become my office, it's a beautiful, creative space populated by interesting and engaging people, with barista's who actually care about the product they're selling. They want you to be able to taste the subtle flavors that the growers and roasters have worked so hard to create and I am learning to appreciate that more and more through the different brewing methods and 4 different beans that they have on rotation. I had pretty much stopped drinking coffee the preceding 5 years and now I'm drinking it 3 or 4 times a week. Someone suggested to come regularly you need to be rich and drive a Benz. I have a 10 year old VW with over 100k miles on it and am a freelancer, I wouldn't even say I'm comfortable let alone rich, but coming here - yes I'm here right now enjoying a shaker and some snacks made by the amazing bakers of the Lollicake Queen - has been rewarding in so many ways, I've made great connections, some sales of work, and have been able to help other like minded people with their businesses. One person complained there aren't enough bean choices. There are 4, 7 different methods to brew them, and I'm not even sure how many different ways to serve them, so maybe 100+ different drink styles to enjoy. How many choices is enough? Forget about what you're used to from those other places, come with an open mind, and ask the barista to make you their favorite, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Wonderful coffee bar, knowledgeable staff. Don't be intimidated, no weird sizes, cut and dry. I've visited twice for a couple hours, sipping through a different flight of 4 both times. Top notch.

I have been reading about this place in different write ups even in a local magazine in Columbus Ohio so my expectations were high. They did not disappoint. The batista's were kind and knowledgeable and I never felt out of place. I really liked the quaint atmosphere. I drink my coffee black and I opted for the Nombre de dios. Vanilla honey almond flavor that I really enjoyed. It was created with perfection. The aroma continued to linger on and that was nice especially sitting outside enjoying the morning weather. I am in no way a coffee snob yet I am not a novice. I just enjoy a really good coffee beverage and this exceeded my expectations. I come back to Sarasota 4 or more times a year and I will definitely make a few stops here each time I am in town.

Thanks Yelpers for this find... truly an unique spot. Tried the kilenso variety described as strawberry / chocolate cake / brandy, and indeed, I tasted those flavors. You folks who live near here are lucky, those who visit, too! Would I return? Yep.

Tom F. Was right. I wish I was as accomplished at writing as he so I could communicate how disappointed I am. To begin with no cream and no half and half so no breve. Second while they do offer various types of espresso, the Kenyan one I tried was "thin" and not at all full bodied. Perhaps I should have tried one of their cold brews. The place is pleasant looking enough and the service was meh'. I know I say this a lot, but I think a coffee shop should focus more on coffee then decor. The place and it's coffee remind me of the 12 year old younger version of a super model. It has great potential, it's just under developed.

Best coffee spot in Sarasota. The staff knows their beans and brews and the vibe is genuine. Conveniently located just west of the hospital on Hillview. Highly recommend!

Visited Perq on a trip to Sarasota. I was thrilled to see that they serve Coava; a great roaster from Portland and one of my favorites! The ambiance was nice and had a natural look with a wood coffee bar and ample seating. The aero press coffee was delicious and really highlighted the flavors of the various coffees. My only disappointment was that I wanted an Americano. In reading other reviews, there is a clear decision by the owners that this is a drink they don't highlight. It is too bad; I likely won't return as this is my coffee drink of choice. Overall a good experience and great beans.

Everything about this place suited me just right. Fantastic coffee and tasty pastries (perfectly sized for those of us who like 'a little something' with our coffee; not too big, not too small). Good music and a variety of seating options. Very peaceful, happy spot where one can recharge and/or relax.

Visiting Sarasota from the East Coast and was excited to find out I can still wake up to a good cup of coffee within the area! The little things make me happy and at 8am during vacation, I made my husband share a cup at Perq with me. The coffee was delicious but the service is cold! Based on other yelpers, they said the staff was knowledgeable... we didn't get any info on the coffee they offered, except for what we clearly could read ourselves on the posters showcasing the coffee. The guy with the comb over just seemed annoyed the whole time. There was also a lady who handed me my pastry and helped me over at the lollicakes... she wasn't the nice & bubbly gal I read from other reviews. Do they not know how to say Good Morning or Hello? Maybe Perq was having a bad day, maybe they didn't have their cup or two yet... whatever it was, I hope it is not the attitude of the store in general. I get it, you are not starbucks and I wasn't looking for a starbuck, but sheesh learn some people skills. Overall, if you don't mind the cold service, their coffee is good. However, seeing negative attitude early in the morning just wasn't for me. I never went back, not even their coffee could convince me to give them another try. Good Luck Perq!

  • Jen A.

Great atmosphere friendly staff, I loved the wood grain and metal aesthetic. Reminds me of a coffee shop near golden gate park in San Francisco if I hadn't already had my coffee for the day I would have tried theirs. I did have a green jade iced tea. It was in a tall glass with hefty, well formed ice cubes, that outlasted the tea, definitely did their job at refreshing this weary coffee shop surfer. I had just left another cafe that sadly didn't have any electrical plugs near the seating to keep my workstation charged. Perq thought of everything, they even had stevia packers to sweeten it and ice cold air. Tip: bring a sweater if you plan on sitting inside for more than 10 mins :)

Went here while vacationing in Sarasota and was NOT expecting such an unusual coffee experience. I'll get the warnings out of the way first: this is not coffee as you're accustomed to it, and very possibly could frustrate the average American who isn't willing to learn about alternative brewing methods or try to understand the admittedly obtuse menu. However, it was fabulous experience overall and fun to choose a brew and watch my coffee being made. The barista took the time to explain how the menu works (coffee weight, what the different brewing styles mean/ produce, what to expect in terms of flavor and strength). There seem to be quite a few regulars that the baristas knew personally, which is always a good sign. I was happy with my choice and found the coffee delicious. Also, the breakfast egg pastries were delicious-- they should consider making more breakfast options available! In summary: thee first-time customer should expect to linger over her choices for awhile-- not rush in and out immediately. But highly recommended.

The coffee here is great! The cold brew iced coffee is fantastic and worth the higher than normal price - and the staff is very friendly. I recently tried the flat white with a bananas foster coffee and it was fantastic! I recommend this place to anyone who loves coffee and enjoys a great atmosphere for catching up with friends/doing a little work or just hanging out and people watching.

Meh. It's a "coffee snob bar" for people who aren't actually "coffee snobs". Coming from Manhattan I was excited to hear about a non-Starbucks coffee spot en route to my office. After visiting Perq, I'm not so impressed. I wouldn't call myself a coffee snob, but I would say I've been to a lot of really great coffee bars (Stumptown, Brooklyn Roasting Company, Gorilla Coffee, OSLO Coffee Roasters, Cafe Grumpy, etc.), so I have some reference for forming this opinion. Perq seems to have slightly missed the mark in the sense that its trying too hard. The bean selection is minimal (3 options plus a decaf bean), the preparation is gimmicky, the wait (after ordering) is long, the clientele thinks they're living on an episode of The Real Housewives (typical for Sarasota, I suppose). The place actually has a nice decor, but the coffee was sub-par compared to what I was expecting. I went to Perq with the intention of ordering an Americano (espresso & hot water), however I wasn't able to order an Americano ("We don't make Americanos...") and was instead suggested to have an AeroPress-prepared coffee. 10+ minutes later, the appx. 8oz luke-warm coffee was ready. The flavor was mild and tasted more like coffee-flavored water. Look, it's fine to offer specialty coffee, but don't deny customers the ability to order staple coffee drinks, like an Americano. It's not like I came in and ordered a "Sugarfree mocha frappa chip extra whip" or whatever. It's like going to an Italian restaurant and being told you can't order a specific pasta/sauce combination because they're "not traditionally paired". The customer doesn't always have to be right, but it's not gonna kill anyone if you give them what they want within reasonable expectations. I'm giving Perq 2-stars since 2 & 1/2 isn't an option. That's for being a little different compared to most other local coffee alternatives, and having a nice decor. If you're looking for something a bit more "authentic coffee bar" and less yuppie-pretentious, I would check out Java Dawg coffee (in Sarasota) or Black Gold (in Venice - worth the drive) - both roast in house, have more variety and authenticity in their offerings, and won't attempt to shame you for ordering an Americano. EDIT: Just wanted to respond to the business owner's comment... Don't call yourself a "coffee bar" if you're not a coffee bar. If you are serving an extremely-limited menu, with minimal ingredient variety, and gimmicky-prepared drinks -- without allowing any "staple preparations" or customer requests -- call yourself something else. I dunno, "Coffee Lab" or something. Calling yourself a "coffee bar" without functioning like a traditional "coffee bar", is like calling yourself a Deli Sandwich Shop and only offering 3 different ready-made sandwiches. People go to a deli to have a sandwich made "to order" the same way they go to a "coffee bar" to have their coffee made "to order". Get it?

I live in LA and I miss Perq everyday!!! Sarasota has a little gem with this place. I had a flight of coffee! How unique is that!? Support local, independent business. These people know what they are doing... And I can't wait to get back this fall!

We were surprised to find such a gem in Sarasota. After visiting places like Seattle, Austin and the many fine coffee shops of Houston this was the kind of place we were looking for! The coffee is unique and made with love...a rarity in today's commercial coffee shop world. The cake pops next door were an extra special treat for our 4 year old! :-) We'll be back the next time we're in town...if only you had a location in Miami!

A long time coming, Perq is a glittering addition to the Sarasota coffee scene. Unfortunately, that's less of a compliment than it should be, given the mediocre coffee culture hereabouts. The good news is that we now have a truly first-class place that showcases quality coffee. Hitting you like a stack of Architectural Digests is the gorgeous fit-out. Keith and Erin have clearly thought long and hard about how the perfect coffee shop should look and feel. Not insignificant is that we're in the sub-tropics, so the climate is a consideration. With that in mind, the high-ceilinged wood-themed open-furnished fit-out is ideal for both seasons - Snowbird and Local. They've taken the warehouse look and made it comfortable. Now for the coffee. Frankly, it's peerless. As the owners' blurb explains, the coffee is the star here, with beans from specialist growers and roasters. But beans can only be as good as the treatment they're given, and that too is first-rate. The Slayer espresso machine is the heart of the operation for my taste, but you will find other techniques employed: Think cutting edge meets simplicity. For those of us who take our coffee as seriously as a heart attack, this place is like the paddles of life. In a way, it's almost too good for this town that thrives on thrifty seniors and horrid chains. But I'm hoping Perq is a giant success. I'll be returning as long as those immaculate flat whites keep coming.

  • D G.

As already mentioned Perq is very aesthetically pleasing, it feels warm and inviting and plays great music. The baristas were not very helpful the first few times in explaining what the various brews were and how they differed. Until the younger gentleman stepped forward and and explained with great detail the cold brewed coffee process and the distinct falvor notes. I normally stick with cold brew coffee and have had success with these although at times it was a bit bitter than my liking. The egg bowl item was decent although not something memorable and my pastry items were dry. Perq does offer many things not found locally and in such a hum drum town that is something to be admired and praised. I just wish they were open past 5, it would be an absolute dream to get a great coffee after work or before a night out on the town.

  • Sarah W.

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Perq. FIrst, I love that it's a locally owned business. Second, I love the decor. But... the fact that they won't make an Americano because they claim it ruins the espresso is ridiculous. Give the customer what they want. Like another reviewer said, it's not like we are asking for some crazy "Caramel mocha, half-caff, frappuccino with whip." An Aeropress is nowhere near the same as an Americano. You are making coffee with an Aeropress. Also, way too expensive since they outsource their coffee. I feel like I get charged a dollar more every time for the same order of pour-over. I wish Buddy Brew would open up down here- fantastic espresso and Americano at a reasonable price.

I don't know too much about this whole coffee bean revolution thing these guys seem to be a part of, but I do know that their flat white tastes damn good. Friendly owners and staff, impressive decor...just a really cool place to experience.

I love coffee. I love really, really good coffee. This place is awesome, their dedication to coffee is admirable, but..... ....the place is just too much work. The concept is fabulous - coffee made every conceivable way by every imaginable device and method. But I'm sorry, I don't necessarily want an education, and I don't want to have to use the reference flip charts in order to decipher the menu. Most days of the week I just want coffee - tasty, hot coffee. So I went once, thought it was cool, but I don't feel the desire to return. The place itself is art, but how often do we visit the gallery? So that being said, I will say the place is decked out beautifully, and the baristas did not come across elitist one bit. Pricey? Yes, but for what they are doing they need to be. I wish them well.

Had a great flat white. Nice place, right up there with the better coffee places in NYC and SFO. A treat for Florida.

We always enjoy Perq!! The espresso drinks and pour over coffees are truly 5 star. It is a pleasant place to sit and relax or do some work.

This place is awesome. From the decor to the fabulous coffee. I wish I could work from home everyday just so I could camp out here with their Borboya brew and my IPad.

Sorry I read the great reviews before going. My husband is a coffee coinsurer and found this place taking far too long to brew the fresh coffee. Pricey! $5. a cup and nothing special! Don't waste your time. Rather go to Starbucks!

The atmosphere is clean, genuine, and aesthetically pleasing. Great music, and friendly staff. The cold brew on this particular day was not my favorite. I prefer a thick creamy cold brew, this one was watery by comparison, and a little bitter. They also don't have soy milk, which contributed to the watery quality. I would come back and try a different batch because the location is great.

I ordered a cold brew ice coffee. .. $5.20 later, it was bitter and the flavor was horrible. Not to mention that this has to be one of the most pretentious coffee houses I have ever been to!

The coffee is a dedicated perfection. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and the place is clean and comfortable. I personally believe that the music in the background is a bit loud and the menu is a touch high, but it doesn't take away from the experience of being in a fine coffee shop. Very industrial looking, this place serves the best coffee in town, period. If there is any room for improvement in this company it's not in the coffee. Other coffee bars should follow suit in making the perfect cup of coffee.

I'm visiting Sarasota; in search of a good coffee bar and I certainly found it! Keith was super nice and explained the varietals and the process followed by the roaster to maintain the flavor of the beans. A different type of coffee experience in a contemporary setting that shows a different side to the Sarasota community. Thumbs up, I will return!

Came in today for a hot coffee. First thing that caught my eye was the cold brew dripping high up on the wall, so cool! I will have to try it next time. Perq serves a great cup of light roast coffee. Keith ground my panama beans fresh and expertly brewed a large chemex pour over coffee. The resulting cup was full flavored, fruity and delish. The atmosphere is hip and Keith made me feel instantly welcome. I will definitely be back. Rock on!

Baristas were knowledgable and friendly, interior was nice with a cool vibe. However the thing that wasn't good about it was the price, I had the Nel which was a concentrated cup of coffee but man way too small. I spent 9.00 on 4oz of coffee and was left needing a cup of coffee. Great for a one time experience, but unless you're driving a Benz, not for the everyday coffee drinker. Too expensive, but nice concept.

Great place, great people! I don't know a lot about coffee but they're always willing to explain them to me and suggest something that I may like.

No, really: As good as it gets, all movie references aside. Things had gotten grim with our local shops, so I set aside a Saturday, grabbed a co-pilot and headed South for an hour (from South Tampa). And yes, it was worth it. M___ brings serious chops to the game, and her previous place has noticeably declined a bit since she left. Perq's selection of beans and equipment are carefully mated to the menu of preparation methods to give the best possible results, and the entire place has a thoughtfulness and attention to detail that's entirely too rare. I had a Flat-White cap, dealer's choice of bean -- my companion had a pour-over. The drinks showed up appropriately quickly and impeccably created. Transcendent Coffee Moment was achieved. I'll be back as often as I'm able, happily.

I thought I knew coffee having travelled to certain coffee meccas & certainly drinking my share of the brew... but it would figure that I'd found out how little I know while visiting Sarasota, of all places. REMARKABLE experience. The brews were delicious, the staff knowledgable, and while this combo warrants a certain amount of snobbery, they were enthusiastic to engage me in conversation, field my questions, and help me learn more about this amazing beverage. Having said that, it is probably not for the "double iced mocha grande'" set. THANK YOU!

The new kid in town has come to play! Armed with an assortment of devices to brew and a hefty rotation of single origin coffees to choose from. It is rather refreshing to see someone step into the game and bring an assortment of fresh ideas. There are plenty of places to grab a fast cup of joe but Perq has come along and raised the bar. Sometimes after a certain level of brainwashing we need to be told to stop, slow down, and enjoy life. The same could be said about coffee. If you want a treat try an Affagato, creamy vanilla bean ice cream with fresh espresso poured over it. The baked goods stay fresh and constantly switching out. Right when you find a new favorite they are onto finding the next trend. One of the best parts of a shop like this is that the owners can be seen lurking and working CONSTANTLY. Any special requests are considered and the beauty of small batch is that anything is possible. Coffee +1 #Mondayssuck! - 0 PS. You can usually judge a business by their bathroom. The toilet is usually as clean as the kitchen as a rule of thumb. Check it out!! PPS.. They carry sandwiches from Mozzarella Fella.... SMART!

Simply the best coffee Sarasota has to offer. This place is the "Willie Wonka" of coffee. Champion Baristas, sourced single origin beans. A multitude of coffee preparation techniques including Kalita pourovers, vacupots, coldbrew, nells, and an incredible Slayer espresso machine. Great bakery offerings to boot.

Finally, a craft coffee bar that is skilled and super-talented. The space is light and bright and welcoming. Lots of treats to appeal to everyone. Head here for a study break or to work in a creative space.

Really enjoy their flat whites (better than my NYC at Culture Espresso -which is pretty good). Staff has been friendly and knowledgeable without making you feel like an idiot by mispronouncing their offerings - you know how those too hip to be cool folks can be.

This place is pretty ridiculous. I love coffee, and I extra love gourmet coffee, but this place was just pretentious. Instead of having a menu with items such as "cappuccino" or "latte," etc, items are named with ridiculous things such as "moon whisperer" and "canyon diver." Ok, I'm exaggerating, but they were equally silly. I requested a simple iced coffee with vanilla syrup - but, no - no syrups, just flavor "notes" I will taste in my coffee (....really?). So I order my iced coffee with notes of apple and something else weird and go to pay - $5.35 for a mediocre iced coffee that couldn't even be tailored to my specific requests. Nope, definitely will not go back nor will I recommend to others! Try Pastry Art downtown if you are looking for good coffee!

Loved this coffee shop! The baristas were very friendly and happy to help! My drink was made perfectly and the two doughnuts I got with them were good! The banana one winning over cinnamon. It would be a great place to get some work done or just enjoy your drink. Would definitely recommend to anyone, and will go back.

Staff, especially Erin (and Keith and Amy) are wonderful. My wife loves the shakers. My son loves the Lollicakes. I don't drink coffee, but I love the lemonade there. Great business, great to have them in town. Check it out!

This place makes my heart happy because it reminds me of all the lovely, cozy, local businesses back home. Perq is passionate about what they do, and it's apparent. Kudos for offering more than 1 different non-dairy milk (they had soy and almond available when I went). Love this place and will definitely be back.

Perq serves up some of the best coffee I've ever had, and by far the best coffee in Sarasota. I've had both espresso-based drinks and pour-over and aeropress coffees here, and they have all been excellent. They have four different single-origin beans to choose from (3 caffeinated and 1 decaf) and lots of brewing options. They also have a variety of loose-leaf teas that I haven't tried but friends have said are great. All of the staff are knowledgeable and friendly - if you're not familiar with terms on the menu, don't be shy about asking for an explanation. Service is prompt and personalized. They're great about bringing complimentary glasses of water to your table, a small touch that I really appreciate. The food on offer - a variety of pastries and other sweets, savory snacks and sandwiches - is delicious as well. Most of it (with the exception of the sandwiches and salads, I believe) is made on-site, so it's fresh and the offerings change regularly. The tasty, fresh sandwiches are from Mozzarella Fella, on Main Street. It's not often you find a place with excellently prepared coffee and equally great food, especially in a small city like Sarasota. The atmosphere is clean and comfortable, with free wifi and outlets, a few couches and lots of comfortable tables inside and out. Perq is my go-to coffee place in Sarasota.

By far, one of the most excellent coffee bar experiences I have ever had. Great coffee, ethically brewed, with quality service and exceptional atmosphere. Florida, much less the world, needs more coffee places like Perq. They care about their coffee, customers and their place in the world. They perfectly captured what it means to care about the process of brewing because they have a clean layout, pay attention to details, and have friendly customer experience through personal demonstrations. As I am writing this review, a barista is walking through her process, while two patrons inquire about the aeropress brewing method. The line is fast moving, yet there is no rush with the interactions with the customers because the service generally care for their work. + gluten-free cookies and pastries + wood counters and sales terminal + exceptionally clean workspace + free wifi & easily accessible power plugs - comfortable seating (found the stools uncomfortable)

Hands down best coffee in Sarasota, quite possibly the state! Not to mention an amazing vibe and sweet treats catering to all types of diets. Lollicakes is right next door and totally worth the "pop" in while your cup of joe is being personally brewed. A daily stop for me. Love everyone there!

This place possesses skilled experts whose efforts should win national recognition. An eye-opening (no pun intended) coffee experience. They are masters and nerds about the bean and all its possible flavor extraction methods.

This is the best coffee establishment that I have been to in Sarasota, in Florida, and in the eastern half of the United States. Not only that, but the quality of the coffee certainly bests the majority of what I have had even in Seattle Washington, Portland Oregon, and anywhere that I have been in Italy. (Side note: curiously, where I figured that Italy had essentially invented the coffee bar, their approach to espresso and coffee drinks is far more commodity than specialty.) I have been roasting my own coffee at home for the past seven years, and thus generally I have fairly high standards for both espressos and brewed coffee beverages. I used to enjoy going to Latitudes when they were open in Sarasota, as they generally had one or two single-sourced coffees from around the world on each day as two of their six daily offerings. Keith at Perq brings this to an even higher level. Whereas Latitudes would single-source the coffee in terms of an area or country, Keith buys coffee that is derived from a single plantation. Thankfully, in our modern world of commerce, you too can do the same at home, but it does take some effort. As you walk into the establishment, the urban chic contemporary design looks like it was lifted right out of Chicago or Boston, and dropped into Sarasota. From the multicolored wood paneling behind the service bar, to the numerous pieces of structural and ornamental aluminum and stainless steal, to the one-of-a-kind giant portafilter chandelier over the coffee bar, the appearance is first rate, and looks like they spent a fortune having had some high-priced consultant draw it all up. According to Keith, what we're looking at is both his design and his sweat equity, along with that of his wife, sister-in-law, and other relatives and friends - great job! (Keith, restaurant design consultation could certainly become a sideline business - you do it far better than most) He is currently serving four coffees at a time: he has a earthy variant, a mid-range variant, and the most interesting is an Ethiopian coffee that has a strong strawberry taste to it, even though there is no additional flavoring to the coffee beans. All of the flavor comes from the beans themselves, and is brought out by a high-end manually operated espresso machine called a Slayer, which allows the operator to vary the pressure to the espresso shot all the way through the brew. I brought my own beans and grinder in to the store one day, just to see the difference in his machine versus mine, a mid range home espresso machine with a vibratory pump. When Keith brewed my roast of coffee in his Slayer machine, the difference in flavor was fantastic! The Slayer allows him to run a finer grind, and yet the flavor that comes out of the coffee is much richer and has far less bitterness than the coffee that I can make at home (and this takes into account that I am starting by buying green beans that I like, and controlling my own roast to the level that suits my taste). If there is a magic coffee machine, the Slayer is that device! Whether you come for the coffee, the atmosphere, the pastries from his wife's Lolly Cake Shop next door, or just as a location to duck into after a shopping or eating experience on Hillview Avenue, you will not be disappointed. Best of all, your taste buds will leave tantalized!

This is pretty much the only coffee house in Sarasota that deserves a review. Great coffee, nice ambience and a good buzz. Of course, all of this comes at a price - Perq is spectacularly expensive. $20 for a light lunch with a toddler. (small sandwich, hummus and pita chips, iced coffee and a tiny pastry). Also, for a small but expensive sandwich, the bread should be better. Otherwise, love it and glad to finally have a place in SRQ with excellent coffee and a young, sophisticated vibe.
