MUST TRY! Foodies be advised. This food is amazing. If you love authentic Greek food, whether casual or formal, they have both. Get the flaming saganaki!! Delicious. The chicken and rice pilaf is out of this world and the Gyro platter is divine. Also, get a glass of Elios Greek Red wine. :-) the owners are incredibly generous and welcoming!

Pleasantly surprised by this gem. Saganaki was perfect. Gyro meat came off a spit just like its supposed to. The smelt is the best I've had outside of Europe. Great quaint atmosphere, this place will not disappoint. Lamb kabobs were succulent. Pita is homemade and out of this world! If you enjoy Greek food give this place a try.

Went to eat at the schnitzel kitchen and it was full. So we love Greek Food so we tried this since it was right next door. Food was below average compared to other Greek Restaurants in the area. Service was good but we will not be returning because of the food.

I dined here last night for the first time and I loved the food. They make their own pitas, which are served warm and are absolutely divine. The saganaki was AWESOME. The service was great. Looking forward to going back!

Went on a Saturday night with two friends. It wasn't packed and we got a booth. Waitress came over right away. And when we had questions about the Village soup, she gave us a taste. My friend and I ordered the 1/2 roasted chicken to share. another friend ordered the spanikopita. Ten minutes after placing our order, the waitress comes strolling over to our table with a menu and informs us that they are out of roasted chicken....on a Saturday night. Really?? why did it take the kitchen ten minutes, after we'd placed our order, to realize that they were out of chicken. That's not good customer service. That item is the whole reason I chose to go to this restaurant. She proceeds to hang around the booth while we look at the menu and try to decide what else we'd like to order. We felt like she was rushing us and when we didn't pick the most expensive plates on the menu she quipped, "you're on a budget, huh?" Her attitude aside, When our orders came out My friends Greek salad looked great and the flaming goat cheese was tasty. My other friend got a gyro and it was big an had a generous portion of taziki on it.

Finally a Greek restaurant in Sarasota that doesn't suck! Portions are just right and seasoned well. We liked everything we ordered from appetizer to dessert.

Really tasty, fresh Greek delights. From the warm pita bread with greek seasoning that comes complimentary- we had ours w a side of delicious taziki sauce - to our order of savory, gooey Flaming Feta flambed tableside w a hint of fresh lemon juice, to the entrees which are served w your choice of side and either amazing greek salad or their lemon-rice soup, a great value-everything was fresh and yummy! Spanakopita is creamy, flaky and flavorful. Moussaka was rich, creamy, and comforting. Rice pudding for desert!

Love having Opa Opa in the neighborhood! One of the best spinach pies, pita, and greek salads I've ever had. Great service, family friendly, and cozy atmosphere. I'll be going back regularly!

This place should be a 5 star... Delicious! The pita bread was exactly as a previous poster mentioned: mouth watering! Everything was perfect! I had the Gyro platter with the spinach and rice vegetable. Will definitely come back when I'm in town again!

Amazing dinner at Opa! Opa! The first thing we noticed when we walked in was the cook greeting us. They serve us yummy warm pita bread and everything we ordered was delicious. I ordered the Pastitsio and it was to die for. Wife had the kalamari and Greek salad and was very impressed with how great it all tasted. Definitely will be returning and highly recommend this place.

Absolutely authentic Greek cuisine and loved every bite. We had the Gyro's platter and Combination platter, and the portions were so large that we will have at least one if not 2 more meals from the leftovers. The pastisio was superb and the owner, Yanni, comes to the table and talks with each customer and makes you feel right at home. Price for the portion is excellent as well. Love supporting small private businesses and this one will get a return visit!

Decided to try the gyros and we were not disappointed. The pita was fresh and filled with meat accompanied by tomato and onions and sauce. No lettuce but who cares. Also added an side order of Greek oven potatoes and grape leaves. At ten bucks for four stuffed grape leaves, I thought the price a bit much. Really, they were good but at $2.50 a piece I could have bought 4 hamburgers or a large two topping pizza. However, the gyros were good and I can definitely see ordering them again. Friendly staff. Need to keep your eyes open or you could easily miss their location.

A highly likable combination of tasty Greek comfort food and comfort-inducing service in understated surroundings. The owner-chef (Yanni) sets the mood with his warm greetings and the well-seasoned dishes he and his helpers turn out. The wait staff (yay, Sybil!) is cheerful and attentive. We've been enjoying dinners here for over a year and always came out with a smile; it's that kind of pleasant experience. It's one of our "keeper eateries."

We got the gyro sandwich ($9), lamb shanks with some goat cheese sauce ($25), a side of potatoes ($4), side salad, pilaf rice, and an entree of baked feta with cherry tomatoes and peppers. Everything was so good, my friend and girlfriend shared bites of everything. This place is a bit pricy, but you get what you pay for in this case - lots of care from the chef obviously goes into each dish. High quality ingredients. The cuts of meat were evidently much better than other places in terms of flavor and tenderness. The gyro was basically the best I've had (or comparable to the best which says a lot.) The sauce was generous and the meat was well spiced, tender, and, well, hit the carnivore spot. The lamb shank also was very tender and cooked to perfection. The goat cheese sauce underneath was interesting, but not well paired with the meat, which stands on its own. There's a version of lamb shanks without that particular sauce on the menu, and I would recommend choosing that instead. Pilaf was surprisingly excellent - a medley of Mediterranean and French flavors with tender vegetables. The salad dressing was excellent as well.

Every time I visit i love this place even more the food is GREAT. My only complaint is the waitstaff always seems to be overwhelmed.

Great range of food choices and price. You can spend $30+ on a person if you want a fancy fiesta, but you can also get a gyro that tastes absolutely great and that only costs under $10. And besides that, there are a ton of tasty dishes that will cost no more than $15. Yanni(The owner&chef) has great passion for cooking and knows how to run a restaurant. Definitely recommend.

This is such a hidden gem in Gulf Gate! It's a tiny restaurant, the owner is the chef and he's always happy to offer great recommendations or bring out samples of something new. We've gone 5 times, and we were the only table in the restaurant 4 of those times, which is a shame because the chef is so talented! I love the appetizer pita with 3 or 4 different feta and hummus dips, and you can never go wrong with saganaki or lamb. I'd definitely recommend this place!

This place is EXCELLENT!!! We were greeted warmly upon arriving. Our waitress came over right away and brought us complimentary pita bread. The pita bread was so warm and literally melted in our mouth. I ordered horiatiki and my husband ordered the lamb chops. Both of our meals were outstanding! I would recommend this place if your looking for good Greek food in the sarasota area

I was late and rushed...so I called ahead for gyro takeout. My meals were ready when I got there, and were by far the best gyro I have ever had. This place is a gem: good people doing what they love and the food reflects that.

I had lunch today at Opa Opa. The food was outstanding. It is a restaurant owned and operated by a husband and wife team. The food is delicious and served with a smile. The food is prepared fresh in an open kitchen, where you can actually see the owner cooking. The restaurant is located not far behind the Gulf Gate shops (Exit near the Michaels craft store and the new Beals store). My lunch entree came with a nice sized Greek salad, fresh and warm pita bread, and my choice of side dish.

This place is great. I come for lunch about 2-3 times per month and they never disappoint. The gyros are nice and never dry. The Greek salad is a very good and they had a special with a pork kabob on a Greek salad and it was perfect. Great owners who always greet you and are very thankfully for you buisness. I love this place and will continue to return.

My family and I were pleasantly surprised at how great the food was at this little hidden treasure in Gulf Gate. We live near by and are always struggling to find something other than the usual family chains. The pita was amazing and so was the hummus mixed with feta. My daughter had the marinated chicken and rice and it was excellent and moist. My gyro was perfect. My husband asked them to make something not even on the menu. They were perfectly happy to accommodate him and it was fabulous. We will definitely be back!

We were delighted to try this place on a friend's rec and find it as good as we hoped it would be. Our lunch included the calamari appetizer with a tasty cocktail sauce, and two bowls of "Village Soup" which has a tomato base and has to be healthy. We also enjoyed a delicious small Greek salad - everything fresh and tasty - and a custard pie with a crust like baklava. We didn't try the bar, but felt that we were being treated to a family meal in a well designed, comfortable environment. We'll be back!

Another gem in the Gulf Gate shopping district. Good, fresh food. My wife and I had salads and the kids had the grilled chicken and grilled cheese. The only complaint I have is that the kids' menu is very limited. Not really a big deal since we were able to please both kids with what was available. I was greatly pleased to see the grilled chicken pieces on the kid menu because it certainly is much healthier than breaded and fried, mechanically-formed chicken pieces that you may find at other places. Very refreshing!

Opa Opa is hidden gem. Not easy to find, but well worth the effort. The decor is modest, but the food and service are outstanding. Yanni is not afraid to prepare dishes that are flavorful and delicious. We've been to Greece and felt like we returned! Their Opa Opa saganaki is spectacular, as are their fresh fish specials. My only regret is not having enough room for desert.

Oh, My! What a treat this local community is in for. Opa! Opa! is a family owned business and everything is made with TLC. Our friend found this spot last month and did a take -out order of spanakopita and a Greek salad. She was so impressed with the freshness of the salad and flakiness of the spinach pie that she made reservations for the six of us last night. We were all impressed from the minute we walked into the restaurant: divine food to the awesome service to a chat with the chef/owner. It has been open since October and the word is getting out. Here's why.... As soon as we sat down, we were greeted warmly, water glasses filled and the most yummy pita bread was placed in front of us. Three of us had the special Greek style loin lamb chops; they were grilled perfectly and had a wonderful flavor. The dinners come with a variety of sides and a large salad . Two of our friends had the Greek salad and spanakopta; their favorite and I had a Gyro sandwich . Special dietary requests were no problems for the chef , so everyone was happy. Some of us had a piece of baklava- not too sweet but sooo delicious!! We all wish this new gem a bright future.

This is well seasoned food prepared with care. Greek potatoes that taste of lemon and spices, cooked so they're soft but still firm. Pita grilled so it's hot but pillowy soft and seasoned. Tzatziki with tang and the right consistency. Pastitisio and Moussaka - in large portions - with depth of flavor. And the lamb gyros is light years better than others: the meat soft and the right temperature and flavorful with a delicious sauce. It's so hard to find genuinely good Greek food. And I mean anywhere. This is genuinely good Greek food.

Great food and presentation. I have eaten in many near eastern resturants around the country and none have anything over this one. Owner/ chef came to our table to make sure we were completely satisfied and the wait staff was terrific. We were Totally satisfied.

The food was excellent. We had the 4 dip sampler and the half chicken with potatoes and a Greek salad. Waitress seemed rushed but she was attentive. Rolled her eyes when I didn't pick my side order right away. She said them so fast, I didn't catch them all. She warmed a bit by the end. Guy cooking seemed nice, maybe the owner, gave glasses of ouzo to the people behind and to me. The restaurant was clean. I would definitely return as this is authentic Greek food.

I convinced my mother to give this place a second chance after reading the spectacular reviews. We went when it first opened and everything was basically terrible. It was better this time, however, I would not rate anything above average. She thought it was pretty good in general. I enjoyed the octopus appetizer, but would have loved more than one piece. The bread was delicious and the lemon chicken soup was much better this time, for certain. We had the basa and lamb shank and both were mediocre dishes. The service was very good, but the wait time was a little long considering there were only 2 other parties in the restaurant. In re-reading the reviews, it looks like it might be a great place for lunch, but I would not go back for dinner entrees.

Best spanakopita I've had in years!! Amazingly fresh, homemade Greek food made in a refreshingly authentic kitchen. The owner personally greeted us with a handshake after my father had only been there 3 times before our visit tonight. Great atmosphere that has the feeling of a close knit family business with the quality you'd expect from a fine dining establishment. Highly recommended from a Greek food fanatic. Opa!

This was excellent. The octopus appetizer was perfectly prepared, just like in Greece. The gyro sandwich was the best we ever had. Greek salad and side of pita were epic!

This is, by far, the best Greek restaurant in the area; and way bettere than most of the Tarpon Springs Greek restraunts. The Owner/chef, Yanni, is both personable and passionate about his restaurant, he is a most talented chef. The food is simply amazing! Anything from the grill will delight you. The lamb shank is among the best I've ever had. Yanni has an open kitchen and even when the place is packed he finds a moment to visit with his customers. Oh, yeah, do get dessert...you will be very glad you did!
