It isn't pretty and it isn't upscale, but the Yelp! photos of the food DO NOT do it proper justice. It is genuine and someone in the kitchen had a bit of that extra touch or gift with sabor that makes the food a small notch above most other Columbian places I know from here to Boston. The place is far from our home, therefore we are only visit once or twice per year. After many many years it has always been so reliable every time that I would go more often if we lived closer. We shred up the Chicharron into the beans. While the Carbon at the top of the entrees is reliable, it is some of their pork dishes that always surprise me year after year. On a rainy day, this food warms the soul. I wish we lived closer.

Mi Tierra is definitely aesthetically intimidating with the tinted windows and the rustic exterior. However, inside is a sort of oasis. The same waiter is always here, and he is very professional and fast. The chilled container of Aji sauce is readily available on the table, which makes the food even more delicious. The rice is perfectly salty-chewy-buttery and the beans are creamy and rich. To me, the quality of the meat is not the best that I have ever had. There are often hard-to-chew bits and sometimes lacking in seasoning. Most items are available a la carte, but the main portion of the menu is large platters of food ranging from $11-13. Not cheap at all. When you order, make sure to read the menu clearly as to what items come with your large platter. I have found that often items are missing from my plate. There are many platter dishes that I have not seen before on menus, such as Creole variations of meat platters with special tomato based sauces. There are at least eight different fruit shakes to choose from, available with or without milk. My main complaint about the food is that the fryer oil tasted rancid to me. Therefore, anything that is fried in the oil tastes rancid as well. Also, sometimes you will order a specific dish and then given something else. So make sure that if you are speaking Spanish that you are speaking very clearly. Due to the fact that the Bradenton and Sarasota areas are seriously lacking in Latin American food options (especially Columbian), I should not be too picky.

I no longer live in Sarasota but for years after I moved I dreamed of once again being able to indulge at Mi Tierra and recently my dreams came true!! First thing we did after landing and getting into town was to head to Mi Tierra so I could pig out on some Mojarra! It was everything that I remembered! A whole fried fish with the tastiest rice and beans, green plantains and cassava. I am from the Caribbean and this food reminds me of my home. Until next time... ;(

Muy bien! Having been going to Colombia for years, I can say this place is very close to authentic, I was just missing the large Arepas I crave often, but those are usually in the Antioquia region! But the food is real tasty, well priced and prepared with care. Also, the juices are great! I was pleasantly surprised to find this place.

Don't let the reflective windows discourage you! It's lovely inside! We had cuban sandwiches, plantains, rice & beans, and Columbia Beers. Everything was good. Highly recommend using the salsa in the middle of the table to spice up the sandwiches. Very kind staff, immaculate bathrooms.

Mi Tierra on 301 is my favorite restaurant in Sarasota. Even though it's in an old diner and smells kinda weird. The Colombian and Cuban people who work there are very very sweet. They accommodate English-speakers, Spanish-speakers, and Spanglish-speakers like me. Why is Mi Tierra my favorite? #1 - The sauce in the little silver or plastic jars on the tables. It is like a fermented hot sauce with lots of garlic and cilantro. IT IS DELICIOUS. I put it all over my meal. I usually use a whole jar. It is medicinal. #2 - The batidos. Batidos are like milkshakes with exotic tropical fruits such as mamey, guava, lulo, guayaba, papaya, mango and others. You can get them with milk for a rich, creamy treat or with just ice for a healthier, vegan version. I LOVE the MAMEY omg omg omg I DO! Also it's the only spot in Sarasota you can get mamey-anything. #3 - The mojarra dish with yucca and plantains. Mojarra is a whole fish. This is a BIG meal of EXCELLENT value. If you wanna make it a little healthier, get the yucca boiled instead of fried. Also, this place is open on Sundays, which is rare in Sarasota. Vegans and vegetarians, beware...no too many options for y'all here. Vamos a Mi Tierra! Viva Mi Tierra! Mi Tierra, te quiero! xoxoxoxoxo

This place looked like a typical mom and pop shop. The service and decor were a little drabby, but the food was good and the prices were very cheap!

We took some family in here recently after they picked us up at the airport and to be honest, I thought it was more than a little disappointed. The portions were small although the prices were right up there with some other Colombian places that we have been to that serve you much more and the service while friendly, was god-awful slow. My wife (who is Colombian), had to go ask them TWICE where our food was. Both of us ordered the bandeja paisa and the chincharron was not good at all and the plaintains were basically two small over-cooked slices. I had the Lulo to drink and I have to give them credit for that, it was pretty good. This place wasn't completely horrible but La Pequena Colombia in Tampa is much better in my opinion.

Mi Tierra might not look like anything special if you're just going by appearances. But like they say, Don't judge a book by its cover. The food here is awesome. And for the huge amount of food you get, prices are very reasonable. One of my favorites is the Milanese de Pollo. It's a large, flattened, breaded piece of chicken with swiss cheese melted on top. And you get beans and rice and delicious sweet plaintains with it. (You have to ask for the sweet plaintains. If you don't specify they bring you the other kind which aren't as good, imo) Be sure to try the sauce in the little jar on the table. Tastes wonderful on the beans and rice and chicken. Has a good amount of heat, and very flavorful. I also like their limeade, delicious!

Yeah, the place looks a little sketchy inside, but the food is great, and the price is right. The bandeja paisa is way too much food to eat for one person, but that never stops me from trying. Also, the aji picante (that stuff in the silver cups on the table) is just perfect. It's hard to describe the flavor. It's like Tabasco sauce, but more like what Tabasco sauce should've been. It has flavor!

Having grown up in Colombia, I can say this is authentic Colombian food! It is always fresh and tasty, and the service is fast and friendly. Try the Colombian sodas! And the Lulo juice! Everything is delicious!

Who doesn't love fried meat? Mi tierra has lots of it and it's delicious. My favorite dish has to be the Bandeja Paisa. For a little more than $10 you get a breakfast-like platter with rice, beans, salad, plantain, a fried egg, and deep fried pork rinds. And when I say platter, I mean a platter. Thumbs up to you if you can finish it all in one sitting. In a city with mostly big name chains, it's nice to see a small mom and pop ethnic restaurant among the masses. Don't let the neighborhood or the tiny parking lot fool you. The atmosphere inside is pleasant and has a very comfortable feel, if a bit cramped.
