Happy hour is a good time to go. They have nice plates and prices on drinks. The bar patio is lovely and upscale. There are gas heaters if it's cold Nice place,to meet friends and relax in the comfortable chairs.

Their outside is a great atmosphere if you want to get drinks. Food is okay, personally I think Carrabbas is better in terms of food quality but this is a good place to change it up every once in a while.

I have been to Brio in other cities and was glad to hear they were coming to Sarasota. We waited till the newness died down before trying this one. Sitting at the bar waiting for a table was very noisy and hot with it being open to the outside. Adding to the noise they constantly throw empty bottles in the trash and break so close to patrons. Move the trash can! The beer was not cold. The service once we were seated was initially prompt but once our meal arrived we were forgotten. The spinach cheese appetizer was good. The portions were generous, grilled chop and chicken under the brick. She eventually came back to the table after we had finished our meal we asked about dessert and ordered gelato. We waited so long and the restaurant was less than half full we got her attention and told her to cancel it and just give us our check. We will try it again but they need to reduce the noise, be more attentive to guests when they are not busy.

My wife and I had our dinner anniversary here the other night. The food and ambiance was exquisite. The service was excellent (waiter Adrianne) and all the food was coursed out nicely. Jason, the manager and rest of staff, were very polite and professional. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone seeking excellent Italian food, and dining experience.

Even with reservations a significant wait is often required. The staff seems young, inexperienced, and rushed. Food is ok but can be over-salted.

I really enjoy eating at Brio. The atmosphere is nice and I enjoy the food. The servers are really helpful too! I like to order the grilled chicken which is usually very good.

First time visit to Brio and I was not disappointed. I commend their front office as they respectively accommodated multiple changes to my reservation. Many exciting choices on the menu, but ending up ordering the special of the evening (Pan seared Group and Risotto Cakes) and Tiramisu for dessert. Both were tasty and well executed. Table Service was attentive, and polite without being hovering or cloying. We had dinner inside the restaurant and relaxed by the fire pit on the patio afterward. I would return again to explore the menu further.

Love this new place! Only been there once, but the atmosphere is definitely a much needed in the area. We went there for dinner on a thursday nite. The wait was an hour and a half for 2 people. We grabbed a stop at the pizza oven bar, which was actually pretty great. The restaurant is open to the outside lounge couches and fire pits. The ambiance is clean and modern. The staff is great, the cocktails were great and reasonably priced, the steak and garlic mashed potatoes was amazing. The food coming out of the oven looked delicious. There were several things on the menu I couldve gotten. I will def go back, even for drinks and apps outside.

Extraordinarily slow service for a business lunch which began at 2:30. Drinks late in arriving. Flat bread was timely, but followed by a 40 minute wait for entrees, four of which were salads. The blame was on the kitchen, as we had multiple servers. Food was good, but salads were small for lunch entrees.

Seated fast but then had to wait almost an hour for our food, and then it was cold when we got it.

The restaurant is beautiful and the food was good but it was VERY noisy. They need to add some sound panels or so something else to help the sound. We were unable to have a table conversation without shouting over the other customers.

Newly opened in this location. I liked the light lunch choices. The chicken had nice light vegetables and interesting flavored. The food was very fresh and the service attentive.

Very good. It is like a step above a Carabbas up scale chain. Kaitlyn our waitress was excellent. Staff was all very good and food excellent

Had dinner with another couple at Brio last night. The setting is very pretty (albeit noisy), with a lot of enticing options on the menu. My pan fried flounder was delicious, as were 2 of the other meals ordered. My wife's lobster and shrimp pasta would have been the best of the bunch, were it not for someone's very heavy hand with pepper. The service by Shayla, was mediocre at best. Two wine options were no longer available. Meals were slow in delivery. She didn't have much ready information when asked questions, including when a particular sauce was spicy. Even getting bread seemed to be a lengthy task. We were never offered coffee refills and she made a mistake with the bill. We will probably try the restaurant again, hopefully with a competent server. 4-stars for food, 2 stars (at best) for service.

Our party of six visited for the firs time on march 10. Four of the six main courses were very disappointing. The service was slow and the food took a very long time to appear. My meal was the Tuscan pork chop. I requested medium rare. The chop was dry and certainly not even close to med rare. Three of the other members of our party had similar problems with their main course orders. We all stated that we would not return. Also this location is very, very noisy. You have difficulty even talking to the person seated next to you. Overall a very disappointing dining experience.

Typical chain. Was there this weekend. Ambiance was real nice but that's about it. Food was OK. After leaving there I felt like I need to drink a gallon of water prob due to high level of sodium. The cucumber gilet I ordered barely had any alcohol.

My husband and I had early reservations on Saturday. We were going to the circus on the grounds of UTC. We were seated immediately, a table, no booths in the dining area. Damn, love the booth.. Our waiter was friendly, and helpful when we were contemplating different entrees. My husband had the chopped salad and the pasta and shrimp pasta. He like both....dinner salads when purchased with an entree were under $5.00. I had the Caesar salad with the same pasta dish. The pasta was fresh and the portion left us with lunch today. Nice.... Wine list adequate but definitely overpriced....we chose a Sauvignon blanc at $33.00 that was very good. The one we would have chosen, $43.00, $15.00 at the liquor store. That is a huge markup....the cocktails, oddly enough, were very fairly priced. Had to get to the circus, but took a peek at the dessert selections...nothing looked too outstanding...didn't need it, but I like at least looking. Would suggest a little more attention to the selections... Will we be back? Yessiree Bob, maybe try lunch next time...

Lunch 11/05/14 Food was not excellent but very very good. Shauna L was our server and did a great job right on the ball with everything. Seating outside was great, you would need to keep in mind temp, wind and sun location when choosing outside. Pricing was about right for a high end mall location. We will be back.

Awesome happy hour, aps are huge and good selection on drinks. Have only sat outside on the patio since weather is great but inside is really pretty also. Have only been for happy hour but they have two happy hours, 3:30-6:30 and 9-close and selection is pretty diverse. On both occasions had the carpaccio, eggplant fries and burger. First time had hummus and while it is a healthy snack this was very boring and the only dish we were not happy with. Great place to stop on your way home after an afternoon of shopping!

I have to say I wasn't that impressed with this restaurant out of all the new dine in options at the new mall, so to start off the place is huge and very beautiful especially outside my god. But what it's lacking is proper service our waiter who didn't even introduce himself really had no personality and literally just brought us drinks and took our orders and was off and he just hung around the bar area, and I couldn't differentiate if they were understaffed because he looked like a manager more than server. The food was good but had the portion size of the Cheesecake Factory I ordered the strawberry salad which was beyond delicious but was too damn big. I also thought the menu size was really lacking and didn't offer that much variety. I might come back, but probably only to have happy hour in the outside seating area. I'll stick with Cheesecake Factory.

Very chaotic, very busy place. My buddy and I sat at the bar for dinner because the wait for a table was one and a half hours. The bread was excellent, dinner was served quickly. I had the pork chop with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. Highly recommend this place. Was I really at the mall? Not your typical mall food, not even close.

Went there for lunch with my wife. She had the Ravioli di Bello(mushroom stuffed with Champagne sauce) and I had Beef Carpaccio. Both dishes were very tasty and servings were generous. Service was excellent. Our only complaint was that it crowded and the noise level made conversation difficult.

We recently went to Brio on New Year's Eve and sat outside in the bar area which is first come, first serve. I figured it would be busy and have slower service than usual since it was New Year's Eve, but it took 40 minutes just to get an appetizer, then when they finally brought it out, it was the wrong one! I figured they'd comp it but they didn't. And the waitress never even asked us for our order. So, we had drinks and the over-priced appetizer and left to go to another restaurant. The atmosphere was nice, but I don't think I'll be going back.

Brio. A Tuscan grill. So they say. Let's start with the positive: it's a good looking restaurant. My Sonoma Chardonnay was good as well. I ordered calamari, while that may be a boring choice I like well executed calamari. These were not: first they were over cooked. Then they flanked the calamari with a massive amount of "aioli" and marinara. Which creates a soggy mess as you come to the end of the dish which is quite the opposite of what anyone is seeking when they order calamari. I proceeded to order salmon. The flavor was good. The Salmon was overcooked. My impression of the preperation was certainly not Tuscan. Remember that Tuscan grill is on the sign. While my salmon wasn't terrible it left a lot to be desired. My poor wife got the short end of the stick. She ordered Carbonara. As an Italian I will tell you that her pasta was a purely bastardized. It was terrible. It was not Italian. It should be avoided. The waitress did her job and noticed that my wife was struggling and offered to bring another option. We accepted and on came the lasagna. Dare I say that this was worse. How That Is Possible I Do Not KNOW. The sauce was sweet. The pasta was massively overcooked. The quality of the cheese was very poor. It seemed microwaved rather than prepared in an oven. All of this for $100 bucks or so. I have to say that I deserve it. I know better than frequenting a chain. There are so many good examples of Italian food in our town. In the end, go to Made in Italy in Venice, or Mediterraneo on Main Street in Sarasota......Brio is no where near an Italian restaurant but rather a watered down version of Italian food much like the garbage in the frozen section of your supermarket. Sad and really not acceptable.

Servers were polite and it is a pretty place. Food blah. We had a spicy shrimp and eggplant appetizer. Spicy due to a ridiculous amount of black pepper. But the eggplant was nicely prepared. We also had a bowl of lobster bisque which I'm sure came from Sysco and contained at most a molecule of lobster. We split the Gorgonzola crusted steak which came with mashed potatoes and veggies. It actually was delivered with burnt potato slices that had been baked just shy of charcoal. The steak had no flavor. I will not go back nor would I recommend.

I want to really like Brio, but I didn't love it. If I could ever get use of a half star, then Brio would be a solid 3.5, and if I was only comparing it to corporate chain Italian restaurants, it might get 4 or more, but compared to other Italian restaurants in general, its just okay. Brio has a few things going for it. This location is very nice - the new mall in north Sarasota is very high end, and this location is at the front with a upscale outdoor patio with some potted plants and such to block the view to the parking lot. My brother and I sat out there. Service was also very good. And there isn't really anything wrong with the food, it just isn't great. I got the chicken fra diavolo - spicy chicken pasta. I liked the pasta and the sauce. Wasn't too spicy though and could have used more of a kick. I have certainly had Italian I liked less, but also plenty I have liked more. My brother got one of their fish specials, and he loved his meal, so perhaps I just didn't get one of their better items. Again, it wasn't bad, and if you're looking for a nice place to rest your feet on a Friday after a long week of working, I do love their patio. Seems like a good place to meet some friends and share some drinks and appetizers. Or, if you just can't decide on where to eat and need a good fall-back, Brio won't do you wrong. That said, you also won't walk out of there in awe of your meal.

First time trying the one in Sarasota. The food is good and the atmosphere very is relaxing . But I am not sure if the staff is not well trained or not.... Every time when I went to Brio I feel welcomed and the waiter/waitress always offered the bread. However the waitress seems like she's very rushy and when she's done with the order she didn't said any more words and left the table.

We were anticipating a nice experience having dined at a Brio twice before. What a disappointment after trying twice our group decided it was not worthy of another visit. Darn...the dining rooms is nice and the outside space and fire tables lovely. We ordered wine.. Not once but two times the server had to announce they were out if that wine. Appetizers were good and would order the mushroom flatbread again. Bread was never offered. Server wanted to take our order without discussing the menu and never bothered to offer us dessert. On our way out a server and 3 hostesses never looked up from their internal conversation to say goodnight and thank you. Brio has a long way to go.

The service is so slow. Waitress don't even know which wines are on sale for Thursday 5 dollars wines. Food was very good but made some of them wrong. And ran out of some entrees.

After a while my family and I waited to visit this Brios because we knew the Mall would be full of people who are attracted to anything new and "exciting" otherwise we would have visited this Brios when it opened. Anyways we found the service and the food at this location to be fairly good if not excellent. We visited this restaurant after 1 in the afternoon so it wasn't so busy. I ordered the Chicken Under the Brick and found it well cooked and not dry at all. That is always a plus. The food and service is always good at every location of Brios we have visited so far, that is saying a lot about how this company is run.

Here we sit 47 min for a salad before our dinner. Spoke with a manager about receiving our dinner it was now over an hour . Waitress was Rarely available and the manager never came back. Reason why we stopped coming here. But, we decided to give it another try. Sorry Brio's we won't be back.

What an overall pleasant dining experience. Aside from an entrée that was fresh and tasty, I had service that was such a welcome break from the impersonal and often inadequate service I've grown so accustomed to. My server's name was Ryan and he was attentive and accommodating. I was in the dark about which wine to order and he suggested one that paired well with my dish. He also allowed me to make a few changes to the order (as I was indecisive) and went above and beyond the standard requirements for waitstaff. The manager also came by to make sure I was enjoying my experience and the hostesses were friendly. Enjoyed Brio and would definitely return! Tip: Order the Pasta Brio!

Having lived in the woodlands tx we have spent many dinners at Brios. Food was always decent but not great. We moved to Sarasota over a year ago we finally decided to try this one but didn't have high hopes for anything overwhelming. We had dinner there on Thursday night. Happy to see gluten free pasta. We had filet , pastas salads and deserts , special ordered a few sides and the staff was very accommodating. Filet was cooked to perfection and we actually told the chef so. Pasta was perfect and shrimp we added to it cooked perfectly. Our dinner here exceeded our expectations and look forward to our next outing.

Had to wait 45 minutes for lunch. Place wasn't that busy. Waiter claimed the kitchen "messed up". They "messed up" on the salads and entree as well Food was mediocre If you have good money to throw away on a disappointing experience, this is the place.

Very disappointing! I had the carbonara with chicken and spinach. The dish was lacking flavor and very salty. By the way Brio should look up a recepie for carbonara cuz what they served was not it. It was more of an alfredo not carbona. The waitress could tell I didn't like it so offered to get me something else. So I ordered the lasagna. Big mistake!! The lasagna was worse. The meat filling inside the lasagna was sweet! SWEET! So gross! On the bright side the wine was good. Can't believe I begged my Husband to take us here.

After visiting the University Town Center (UTC) mall for hours, our legs are exhausted. We are dying for good food. The UTC has a few restaurants to offer and we chose the one that has the most reasonable price - The Brio. The Brio is the Italian Tuscany Restaurant. We check with the host and she tells us we have to wait for 45 minutes for the tables. But the bar and the pizza bar are available and no wait line with full menu. Guess what, I love to see the action of the cook and we have chosen the pizza bar. We are sitting down and the waitress approach us with a smile immediately. We read at our menu and try to order and the waitress apologize the lunch menu at the bar was mistakenly place there. She switches out the menu quickly and we have ordered the Blacken Tilapia and the Chicken Picata. She brought out some of the flat bread for the pre-meal item. The flat bread is sprinkle with rosemary, sesame seed, and cheese. It is good pre-meal item and we ask for more. The diner was prepared for 17 minutes. When we were waiting, the pizza chef has the pizza station and appetizer station prepare the food in front of us. You cannot believe the appetizer that he prepared look very good. The bruschetta look yummy. Their bruschetta are the Roasted Tomato and Herb Pesto, Slice Steak, Roasted Red Pepper. We were planning on the next visit to try the appetizer only. I have took a few picture from the counter that is next to us with a arm reach. My salad came out first. It is a wedge salad with the bacon, parmesan cheese and goat cheese sprinkle over it. It is interesting that they cut quarter of the lettuce and remain in the ball shape. Our main course tilapia is accompanied with grilled broccoli and sweet potato. The tilapia is great but not gives me a wow factor. The chicken picata is prepared with the white lemon butter sauce and caper. We added the angel hair pasta on the side and they are delicious to dine. Overall the service is good and quick, we definite go back for the appetizer when we are near there.

We went in for lunch on a busy Thursday. Place was full but it didn't felt crowded. Decor is outstanding and service was fast, but even better was the food. We tried the soups and they felt homemade which is a plus for me. Pasta dishes were also great, perfect al dente. I'll come back for sure. Prices are good too, especially for such a nice time we had. Plenty pf wines and cocktails to choose from. To finish, the best part, Ashley (our waiter) was super nice, corteous and efficient. Kudos for her.

I believe they were short staffed on the day we went, because the person who looked like a manager (wearing different clothes than the rest of the people working there) was cleaning tables and dropping checks. That being said, I forgive them for the slowness of the service, a bit. Our service was incredibly nice and kept saying she was going to chase things down for us and returned shortly with everything we asked for. When we got the check back it didn't have a pen in it so I asked the bartender who seemed upset that I did so. Sorry... My strawberry basil smash tasted great, but I'm not sure if there was any alcohol in it. The bread and crackers were fantastic. I got the blackened tilapia which was cooked perfect, as was the veg with it. Didn't need a knife. The sauce on it was great too. Clean plate club! The desert platter will make you want desert, so we got the peanut butter one, which was only 2.99! One is enough for two people if you've both already had a lunch/dinner that was filling.

Was there on a Saturday night. Got a table outside at the bar. The waiters were not very attentive. We asked 3 times for more bread and NEVER received it. Food was good, but carpaccio and a wedge salad without bread and olive oil is not my idea of a good meal. Wine was good but over priced but it kept me mellow enough so I didn't complain to the manager. Going to give it another try........

We went today! It was pretty chaotic, but we were able to eat, relax and enjoy a fabulous meal! Due the crowd at the mall, next time we will try a week night. It is really going to be a wonderful place to go when the crowds die down, if they ever do! See the pics I posted! Chicken limone and grilled mahi mahi! Beautiful presentation !

I used to love Brio. Not a cheap restaurant by any standards, it used to have a great service and delicious dishes. But apparently not in Sarasota. I went to Brio after a day at the mall (UTC). I choose Brio from lots of restaurants in the area and I was sorry for the decision I took. This is the first time in a restaurant when the waiter did not return to ask if everything is fine after I received my meal. This is also a rare occasion when the hostess rolled her eyes when I told her I want to sit at a different table (the restaurant was almost empty). This was the first time in Brio when the pasta was bland and swimming in sauce. The soup was cold, and it took 15 min or more for the soup to be served. I don't give one star because I believe the restaurant can be saved, but I truly believe that they should take a look at both the quality of the food and the service at this location.

I came here during a recent visit to the area. The server was nice and attentive. I ordered an Arnold Palmer to drink, which was decent but the lemonade was rather sweet. For lunch I had the chopped side salad, which was similar to Olive Garden's salad, and I shared the Margherita Flatbread with a friend. The Flatbread was good, and I liked the herbs and seasoning used. It was a good item to split, as it was rather large. Overall, the food was pretty good but I wouldn't rush back to go.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
