The atmosphere here is like an old diner. Really great service. Very nice people. They opened early just for us. Food was great. The fried pickles are done right.

Absolutely the best corned beef and cabbage I have ever had and my husband agreed too! I wanted to order a second plate but I was too full. I am coming back tomorrow because they only serve this for St. Patrick's Day weekend. Gotta have more!!! I also found my new favorite place to buy steaks to cook at home. What a great selection of meats!

Wow! Had the New York strip "Pittsburg style" wow!! Could not put it down. Hands down the best streak I've had so far. The service was wonderful and it had a little quaint atmosphere. Definitely will make the trip to come again.

Very surprised!! Called days in advance and ordered a "fresh" duck for pick up. Was given a previously frozen duck that was simply thawed out. If I wanted that I could have picked up a duck at Publix and thawed it myself and avoided the holiday traffic. What a waste of time.... :(

This was an amazing and unforgettable delight. We passed by on our way to another restaurant and saw the sign,Home of the Turducken. Now we saw the episode on the food network and turned around to give it a try. The parking lot was empty. Which we were Leary of on a date its at 700. Prime dinner time. We sat down in the diner style booths. Our waitress was very well informed of the menu and was pleasant when answering our questions. I had the turducken and my boyfriend had the cowboy ribeye. Both were to die for. They know how to do steak. The turducken was fabulous. If I had only one complaint it would be that the mashed potatoes were boxed instead of homemade. Lisa was our server and she is amazing and very knowledgeable about the establishment and surrounding area for those of us on vacation.

Excellent local steakhouse. Premium cuts of meat served exactly to the temperature ordered. Tender and flavorful beef. Value is excellent. Will definitely return.

I used to eat here all the time when I lived in Sarasota back in the 90's. Whenever I am down from Atlanta, I stop in and am never disappointed. Took my brother here for lunch yesterday. He was pleased to find good German beer. We had traditional German bratwursts, came on a roll with sauerkraut with a side of authentic German potato salad. Good hot mustard was right on the table. One bite and I was 5,000 miles away back in Germany! I'm pleased to find the place busy, but still clean, friendly and with the excellent food I remember. These are the kind of places that should never fade away. Go here, for real German and Bavarian food, for fantastic steaks, or a menu full of other good food, you won't be disappointed! Züm Wohl!

My husband and I were vacationing in Florida for his birthday weekend and decided to stop at none other than Alpine Steakhouse. We saw it featured on TV just like many others who have reviewed before me. It was a Saturday night at around 7pm, and the first thing we noticed was that it was pretty empty...We walk in and the place looks like its from a few decades back, nothing wrong with that, just seemed different. We were politely greeted and seated promptly. So far so good. First thing that was brought out for us was the garlic bread. There were three very flat, somewhat burned looking pieces of bread, but my husband said they were ok. I opted not to have any since I was saving my appetite for my steak and sides I had ordered. I had asked for my steak to be well done and to my surprise, when my steak was given to me,it was raw on the inside and burned on the outside. I had ordered regular baked potato with sour cream and vegetables to go with it but not even that was done properly. The vegetables were old and tasted stale. They gave me a mashed potato with everything on it except for sour cream. I like mashed potatoes, so I decided to let that go and picked what I could off the top and asked for some sour cream on the side the next time the waiter stopped at our table. A waitress walked by and I told her about my steak situation for which she offered to take care of. She took my plate and came back a few minutes later with a steak that was even more burned but still red/pink on the inside. I decided not to complain again, and ate whatever I could, which was not much. Luckily, my husbands meal was a bit better. His steak was not cooked the way he ordered it either, but at least his was edible and had a bit more flavor to it. Although unfortunately, his vegetables also tasted old. My husband was unimpressed with his dinner, and for me...my steak was the worst steak I have ever had in my life. I left the place hungry. I was very sad, because this was supposed to be a nice dinner for my husband on his birthday. He was disappointed with his meal, and even though I did my best not to complain he was still unhappy that they did such a terrible job with my dinner plate (he tasted my steak). I don't recommend this place, but if you do decide to go, I sincerely hope that your experience is better than ours.

The home of the Turducken. Featured on diners drive-ins and dives. Several lunch sandwiches make this place a local hole. Great catering too. Lunch deals and dinner specials always delicious.

We really enjoyed some of visit and some parts of it was just ok. The building is really nice, loved the ceiling and the old time feel. The meat counter looked very enticing, beautiful cuts of meat. One of our group ordered the Lamb Shank which he totally enjoyed. Another one had the Turducken and said it was excellent. Another member of our party had a filet and wasn't real excited over it. I had the steak and crab cake. My steak was ordered medium and it was barely pink at all, a bit over done. The twice baked potatoes were great as were the almond truffle & bread pudding desserts. The warm bread was wonderful, too! The service was a bit slow but we weren't in a big hurry so it worked out ok.

Love the filet mignon! My husband and I really enjoy the gorgonzola salad, twice baked potato's and steaks. Wish they still had the light and fluffy onion ring stacks...please bring them back! Great meal for the price...you can find similar at Ruth Chris for 3 times more.

Stopped in to see what all the hype about the turducken is. Started with the pepper poppers for the appetizer, and found them to be quite delicious. They were a mixture of cream cheese and cheddar cheese so you were quite sure what you're going to bite into , but both equally delicious. Now for the reason I stopped in , the Turducken. I am Not sure what all the sensationalism is about. I found the pairing of the Duck, Turkey, and Chicken did not mesh well for me . Definitely a thumbs down ! Well least I tried it , but with every bite I was wishing I ordered the Porterhouse. On to dessert , I ordered the bread pudding and this was absolutely delicious love the amaretto sauce that was layered over it. I would rate this restaurant 3 stars , if I had the Porterhouse I may have rated higher but I can only compare it based on the Turdunken.

It's really closer to a 3.5 review, but since I considered it a solid experience instead of great, I'm going with the 3. I had the turducken lunch. Duck, chicken, turkey, roasted red peppers, andouille sausage stuffing, and cornbread stuffing. Not to mention the mashed potatoes, gravy, and cranberries. Somehow, the lunch portion was only $15.00 and it was really a unique combination of tastes. I could have used a little dark meat though! It was cool to finally visit, though I'm not sure I'd make it a priority to return if I'm back in Sarasota though.

Simple, and sweet : good bang for the buck. Meat is on point. Decor is lacking. If you want a good steak and still want to wear a t shirt then this is your place. Great beer selection both alcoholic and non.

I had to try the turducken, just to see how it was. It was OK but I should give a disclaimer that I'm not a big turkey and mashed potato fan so it's probably not a fair review. Doubt I'd be back...

Loved it! We started with the fried pickles which were wedges- so tasty. We all had burgers. Finished our lunch off with the bread pudding. Mmmmm.

Dined last evening at Alpine Steakhouse.I wanted to try it ever since I saw it on DDD. Pass it quite frequently and decided to go. We were 2 couples and were ready to eat. Men ordered porterhouse and cowboy steak.Ladies ordered turducken along with 2 large gorgonzola salads.Salad was ample for portions for all. No onion, small piece of tomato, not green enough lettuce. Served with house dressing, but would have preferred EVOO and vinegar (not offered). Steaks were served exactly as ordered and properly seasoned. Turducken and mashed potato was served doused in gravy. Gravy should have been served on the side as ladies had asked.. The comments said about the turducken was that it was OK but nothing special. After all, it is just turkey and chicken with some duck. I tasted the duck and it was cooked perfectly and the gravy was satisfying. The steaks looked devine. I specifically asked our waiter (who was a pleasant enough fellow) that I wanted the porterhouse chosen to have a large piece of filet on it. He couldn't be certain that would happen, so he invited me to select one out of the meat showcase which had many to choose from along with other wonderful looking cuts. I selected one but they were not like those I am accustomed to. I try to get them with an equal size of meat on each side of the bone. This was not available. I'm was fine with what I selected. My friend settled in with the cowboy steak and commented that the meat was a bit tough and somewhat difficult to chew though cooked perfectly. I then delved into my 24 oz. Porterhouse (for only $26.95). A good porterhouse should be tender enough to cut with a fork, smooth, silky, grainy with a sweet mineral-like taste. While the flavor was there, the texture was not. The steak was fine but definitely not like that of a fine steakhouse. This was more like something you would broil at home; certainly adequate but not superior..It was very good and satisfying--for a $26.95 steak but nowhere near what it could have been. We will go again and try it again. We will try to determine if this is a restaurant within a meat market or a meat market within a restaurant. All in all, a very pleasant dining experience. Maybe I set my expectations to high. At other steaks places the tab would equal to a car payment..

OWent there last night with a large group, one of which was not the easiest to deal with. She sent back her white zin because she said she ordered sangria and sent back her steak which was prepared medium and wanted medium rare. Now sitting next to this lady I heard exactly what she ordered and she was brought exactly what she ordered. Still, our server Mike, took back both items and brought out a new drink and steak, he even did it with a smile. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their meals and all steak dishes were prepared as ordered. I ordered the weinersnitzel, it was pretty good but the sauce really completed it. The red cabbage and potato dumplings were very tasty sides. On my previous visit I did have to try the turducken. A lot of previous reviews said it was dry, while it may not have been as moist as one would expect the gravy made it the perfect comfort food. I enjoyed it. I normally don't order a lot of fried foods but on this visit I did get the fried pickles just for fun. They were as good as any I've had, not bland at all. Again 5 stars because the food was good and on both visits the service was awesome. Now when I say this don't expect to get your food quickly because the steaks did take some time, but our server was terrific.

Alpine has some good eats. The Philly Cheese steak is top notch. Skinny fries are tasty too. The atmosphere is also appealing. Red booths with a local diner like feel. But why this gets only 3 stars is because of two things. #1 - The service is a little slow. The several times I've been there for lunch, they have had only two servers for several tables. They're stretched too thin. #2- The meal is too expensive relative to other places. Yes, you can get the $5 BBQ brisket for lunch but you have to pay a couple dollars extra for the fries. Add in your drink and the tip and you're up to a $13 lunch. If I could walk out of there for $10, I would bump this up another star. If the company is paying, pick Alpine. If it's coming out of your pocket, there's better options.

History: I've driven passed this place almost daily for the past 10 years. I've had their Turducken sandwich and really liked it. My first experience was terrible a few years ago and vowed to never go back (fool me once...) Got a Groupon for the restaurant and decided, why not? Went with a group of people (4 of us). Half of us LOVED our sandwiches, the other half thought nothing special but still good. It was on track to be a great experience and 4 locals whom had seen the place millions of times but 3 had NEVER been would have been back to eat in the future. That's when the waitress (whom seemed like an owner of sorts) decided to change all of that. She split the check without us asking, both parties tried to use Groupon's. "We can't split the check and use two" she says. I get it, the small print says one per party per table. I don't expect to be an exception, but I mean we already ate... "We can't" she affirms. "It's Groupon's rules and they won't let us". Well put us at two separate tables? "We can't". Ok, that kind of sucks, but I get it. Still a pretty good experience, a little bit of a sour taste but we'll be back again. Then the combined check comes. Cool, took off one Groupon, we'll be back to use the other in the future and for other meals... wait, she added 18% gratuity onto the check? Check the small print, nothing. Check the menu, "Parties of 5 or more may have 18% gratuity added"... We had 4. I always tip 20% (and yes obviously would have tipped 20% on the before discount total) but she was very intent on getting her 18%...instead of future return visits. It might not seem like a huge deal, and we didn't complain about a single thing, but we were stunned at the end of the meal how she seemed intent on making sure we left unhappy. We still have one Groupon left, not sure we even want to use it. Good food is only half of the equation.

I was a little shocked at how good this place was. We found it by driving up and down the road, and referencing Yelp before deciding... glad we went here. The Turducken is just like Guy Feiri says, off da hook ( this place was on tri[ple D )! I was unsure, and not sure if I wanted to take the chance for $20 .. but I tried it.. it was AWESOME! You have to try this. It is a little piece of specialness. I dont typically like duck, but the duck is almost undetectable.. the stuffing used is amazing and it is all put together really nicely. The wife had the fillet and was pretty impressed. This is a meat market / diner.... it looks kinda scary when you walk in,, its like stepping back into the 70's and might frighten those who arent used to scary places.. i dig places like this... the atmosphere was cool, the service was cool, and the food was amazing... Drink the sweet tea... it is incredible.

My husband and I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon to make reservations for later that night. We specifically told the hostess we would be coming for the prime rib and even asked if 7:15 would be too late. We were assured they would not sell out by then, so we put down our name and also made note that we wanted a booth (the tables were right up next to the deli meat case). So we left and came back with our family at the allotted time and the hostess (same girl) took us to a table, at which point I reminded her that we had requested a booth, so we had to go back and wait 15 minutes. Ok fine no worries everyone makes mistakes. After waiting, we're taken to our booth and the first thing our waitress tells us when she walks up is that they're out of prime rib. At which point we explain that we had specifically made a point to make sure the prime rib wouldn't be sold out, and asked to see a manager. To which she replied that SHE was the manager and said she'd give us a minute to decide if we wanted to stay. Never apologized, never acknowledged the [multiple] errors her staff had made, and never showed any concern for our genuine disappointment. Stayed anyway bc it was too late to go somewhere else- gator bites were minuscule and half-burned and the rest of the food was fine. Very disappointing experience. Would not recommend

Started with the Onion rings. They were good nothing special unlike the potato chips. Those were amazing. The prime rib was one of the specials and I am really glad I had it. One of the best prime ribs I have ever had. This was up there with prime ribs that cost three times as much. It was cooked perfectly and was tender and flavorful. Finished it off with the Mississippi Mud Pie which was a perfect ending. I would do this whole meal all over again.

I learned about this place via the Food Network featuring it during their "dives, drive-ins and diners". It wasn't good, perhaps it was good at one time, but Turducken was dry and so over cook...will not go back.

We stopped in at about 6:00 on a Saturday night. Imagine my surprise when there was only a whopping 6 cars in the parking lot...I find that a full lot indicates great food and 6 cars does not make for a full lot... The Alpine Steakhouse was featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives for their TurDucKen. I was tempted to try this semi-famous dish until I saw the prices on the menu - which by the way, was a paper placemat/menu combination, but they did have cloth napkins. The turducken meal was $20, which I might be willing to pay if I wasn't sitting in a restaurant that reminded me of an old IHop. The Alpine was over priced by at least 20%. For example, a basket of homemade chips was $5, French Onion Soup (a cup) was $6. I ordered the $9 philly cheesesteak sandwich and sweet potato fries. I have to admit, the fries were mighty tasty, but I've yet to figure out why they made it on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives....

Saw this place featured on an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and decided to check them out when I was back in Bradenton visiting family. Went there in the late afternoon on a weekday. Place was empty except for some people at a couple of tables. Decided to sit at the small bar/counter in the back so that I wouldn't have to risk getting spotty waiter/waitress service sitting at a table. Was greeted at the bar/counter by a friendly waiter/staff and I told him I had seen Alpine on DDD. He walked me through the menu and I ended up ordering the German Sauerbraten dinner and he was nice enough to let me get a small side order of their famous Turducken to try out. The Sauerbraten was okay. Nothing to rave about. Didn't have a good sour taste to it like other Sauerbraten dinners that I've had before at other places. Even the Knorr brand Sauerbraten packet mix has way more flavor to it. The dumplings that came with the dinner were good. I think the Turducken was just a slice that they heated up in the microwave. Had their apple streudel for dessert and it was okay after they heated it in the little "do-all" toaster oven on the counter behind the bar. All in all, wasn't really impressed with their food. Might have to try their Bratwurst Platter the next time I'm in the area, since they have a huge deli/meat counter packed full of German style meats, sausages, cheeses, etc. Before I left, I bought some Landsjaeger sausage and a package of apple streudel. The Landsjaeger was excellent. The streudel wasn't very good at all. So so food. Great selection of German sausages/meats and cheeses in the deli/meat counter.

Watched an episode of "Triple D" featuring the "Turducken" So I made it a point to try it when I was in town. To be honest it looked much better and juicier on TV than in real life. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but that's about it. The flavors were a little on the bland side for me. In addition the food came out warm, which gave me the impression it was quickly reheated. The mash potatoes were ordinary as well. On the other hand, my buddy had the butchers cut pork chop and it was delicious! Moist and juicy! His baked potato came out hot. The garlic bread was delicious though, a generous amount of butter and garlic slathered on made for a delicious bite. The server and hostess were very friendly and sweet, but our waiter was slow and forgot to get some non buttered rye bread for us. The hostess actually came around more than the waiter. I would return in the future to try the different types of brats though- they looked amazing!

I learned about this place the night previous to my visit via the Food Network featuring it during their "dives, drive-ins and diners" (I probably screwed up the order of those, but you know what I mean). What caught my eye was their famed turducken. This is not John Madden's Turducken, which looks like Frankenstein's take on a Thanksgiving classic. This is a true masterpiece blending turkey, duck, and chicken to meld the flavors with a variety of stuffings and greens - delicious vibe to it! Menu looked fabulous online, and anticipated slurping down a few of their Oysters Rockefeller which appeared to have a generous amount of Pernod, which is a "lost art" with this dish. They even had an online ordering method for takeout. So why only 2 stars? Really, I'm giving it 2 stars because I believe the other reviewers. Otherwise I'd go one. If you read my reviews, I have a good balance and you really have to earn a bad review from me. I've even said outright a steak restaurant will not get less than a 3 star review from me based solely on their willingness to promote meat. Started when we tried calling to place an order but they were directing all calls to the website for takeout via voicemail. Thought that was a little odd but figured the TV publicity might have overwhelmed and if it was a "dive", then they probably had the voicemail set up to cover busy signals. I've worked in small restaurants and while your local crapplebees has a 2 ring policy, many local joints don't even answer the phone. So, we placed our order online and proceeded to make the 45-60 minute drive to Sarasota from my folks house. We arrive to an empty parking lot.... middle of the day on a Saturday (not a holiday). Guy walking back from the front door says they're closed for a wedding. nice... no message on the website, no message on their voicemail, and they're accepting orders for a day they're not open. In less than 5 minutes in their parking lot at 3pm (not a rush time for most restaurants), 3 customers came and went. I can only guess how many other customers who watched that Food network episode the previous evening who were either local or not local (like me) suffered the same experience. I'm not saying they should have been open, because that's the cool thing about owning your own restaurant - you don't have to be a slave to the machine. A wedding is more important than my family get-together's lunch, but c'mon. Let customers know so they don't waste a good chunk of their afternoon schleping around the gulf coast for a closed restaurant. How long does it take to record a voice mail, leave a blurb on a web page, or turn off the shopping cart? Unless this was an emergency elopement, then this wasn't a surprise for them - just either poor planning or just not caring. Now my dad has to go through the additional hassle of making sure they don't charge the card he used. Counting the extra time at Cracker Barrel grabbing some chow so we didn't come back to my mom and pregnant wife with no food, we blew 3 hours on a Saturday afternoon + the CC issue. Boo.

This is a Sarasota gem, exactly what greasy, comfort, diner food ought to be. We came here not knowing it was featured on Food Network, whose attention sometimes opens restaurants to undeserved harsh criticism and unattainable expectations. I would normally not do this, but I'm giving this 4 star place 5 stars after reading the bitter sabotaging rants of a reviewer who did NOT even taste the food and of one that doesn't understand diner food. For those who think $20 is too much to pay for Turducken, factor in the labor, cost and time to roast a turkey, duck and chicken plus 3 types of stuffing, homemade cranberry relish, potatoes and gravy. I'll gladly fork over a 20 for a delicious heaping pile of smorgasbord on my plate. You're sure to be stuffed (maybe uncomfortably) after eating any of their meals, steak & cheese was a favorite too. If you feel guilty for consuming so much meat, potatoes and grease, pair it with a side of light creamy dill cucumber salad or tangy coleslaw - both are delicious. One area Alpine can improve on is service or lack thereof. The pleasantries are nice and all, but I'd rather our server get us our condiments right away and not after we've finished our appetizers. Overall, this is a one of a kind diner in Sarasota that will be sure to please the hungry and not weight-conscious.

We cruised here on a Saturday night around 7:30. All of the other restaurants in the area, even the crappy ones were packed. But, this steakhouse did not have a wait and the parking lot was half empty. I read the reviews and decided to give it a try, since my husband was in desperate need of American food. The dining area resembled that of an old Sizzler buffet from the 1970's, so I was shocked when I looked down on the cheap paper placemat menus covered in pricy items. The waitress acted deeply saddened that we did not want to order any appetizers, like we were making a terrible mistake. All of the tables around us were ordering the basket of homemade Potato Chips ($5.00), but I was not ready to make a greasy mistake that would haunt me. I would have to disagree, since I could only finish one third of my entrée. There was a selection of German items as well as the usual steak fare. The garlic bread was soggy and had more paprika than garlic, we only ate a couple of bites. The gorgonzola salad was tasty and came with my meal. The Manhattan Style Conch Chowder had some sand grit in it, but other than that tasted well and came with the other meal. The Delmonico 14 oz ($22.00) was 20% bone and about 1/2 inch thick and juicy, brushed with butter and grilled to perfection. I am happy that I ordered medium well, because the inside was very pink. The Twice Baked Potato ($2.00 additional) tasted decent but had a margarine flavor rather than butter or sour cream. The Chopped Sirloin 10 oz ($14.00) was a little dry, as most sirloins are, but the butter covering made it a little more juicy than usual. The flavor was great, but it would have been nice with some of those $5.00 grilled onions that we could not bring ourselves to spend $5.00 on. It is just an onion! I have never paid $14.00 for a hamburger patty before, but I guess the butter on top doubles the price. If I made it at home, I could at least afford to put some cooked onions on top for under $5.00. The Fries were really tasty twice fried wedges with a little seasoning, which was perfect. We wanted to order dessert because the Bread Pudding with Amaretto Sauce sounded amazing, but we were way too full at that point to eat anything else. $55.00 later we left with a tummy ache and slightly greased out. I was surprised to see that the restaurant was featured on Food Network, and maybe they have raised the prices since then. A little overrated.

You've never been here before because there is no place in the world like it. It is not a diner, deli, dive or drive-thru. It is not a classic steakhouse. It is terrific and can be an experience if you have a sense of humor. We have eaten dinner here many times over the last 8 years. Here's why: the "Alpine" part comes from the fact that this steakhouse sells Karl Ehmer's (German) meats. There are four German specialties on the menu and they are Weiner Schnitzel, Goulash, Sauerbraten, and a Wurst Platter. These dishes come with potato dumplings, sauerkraut, potato pancakes or red cabbage. I am not a fan of Teutonic food but the schnitzel with pancakes and sauerkraut is great. Otherwise I recommend the steaks. They come in all sorts of cuts with all sorts of sides. My husband has tried everything here from the fried shrimp to the New York to the French Dip and loves them all. I stick to the Alpine route but we always share a basket of fried pickles to start. Neither of us, nor any of our friends has ever ordered the turducken. No reason for that but I can't say if it is any good. The ceiling is all chrome, the booths are red vinyl, the floor is black and white tile. The service is fast and friendly. The clientele is downmarket (yes I said that) for the most part, and you can walk in here wearing flip-flops and shorts although I hope you don't. Stick with the obvious like the German items and the steaks. Basic chicken dishes and daily specials are good too as is the hamburger. If you stray into the less traveled lanes as a friend of ours did last week when she ordered chicken piccata, then I can't help you any more than I could help her. There is nothing about this restaurant that says "Florida". If it sounds like an odd choice for warm/hot weather, that's because it is. Go, have fun, and enjoy.

Driving by they will get your taste buds dancing by the wood burning smokey grill out by the road. Known for the turduckin' that's what we had, & USDA choice prime beef em' It's a pretty cute little joint. It's not my type of food by choice, (too homey). I just don't understand why this place is not packed every night? Why go to a chain? I guess the atmosphere is somewhat 70's? nothing fancy, ice burg lettuce etc. The meat counter is impeccably clean and has wonderful things to chose from including wines & beers.

Some friends and I have started a tradition hitting up restaurants featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives when we travel for conferences. So, of course that brought us to Alpine. As tempting as the Turducken looked and sounded on the show, I'm a sucker for steak and shrimp, which was on special the night we visited. In our party of 4, we ordered 2 steak and shrimp, the goulash, and the Turducken. About the time a colleague thought to order the homemade potato chips, we remembered the Oysters Rockefeller. And thus...a mouthgasm was born. Seriously, Guy nailed it on these little delicious morsels They are nails. I was totally happy with my steak; it was perfectly medium rare. The cocktail sauce was wonderful, too. I took a bite of the Turducken and declared it "perfect comfort food." A bite of the red cabbage from the goulash made me wish I'd ordered that, too! It's a shame we didn't have room for dessert. It was tempting!

As a restaurant: One Word: gross. We decided to get a take out dinner, tenderloin steak, potatoes and salad. The steaks tasted funky, it was the worst food we have ever had We got sick. I don't understand why so many people like the place.

I'm so thrilled to find this sensible review for the Alpine Steak House. It is a landmark that needs so much more support. This place should be packed every night. Last week I went in there and their dinner specials included turducken (soon to be made famous on the Food Network) and NY Strip dinners. The NY Strip dinner was 9.95. Did you see that 9.95!!!!! And these are very good cuts of beef prepared by a kitchen that knows beef as good as anyone in the country. Granted the Alpine Steak House is not the place to go to pop the question or impress a big client, but it is a place to have the best steaks in town without worrying about a la carte sides, 15 dollar glasses of wine and a menu that forces you to choose between $30plus entrees. Sarasota has a true treasure in this place. I found one other very much like it in Oklahoma City once, strategically placed next to one of America's largest slaughterhouses. But I'm not inclined to make that trip too often for a great, well priced steak and red wine. I'll be back soon!

After watching their Turducken touted up by the TV show Diners Drive-ins and Dives, four of us from work went to Alpine Steak House for lunch. We all dropped $$$ on the Turducken and were very dissappointed in it's lack of flavor and how dry it was. None of our serviings had all three meats in the slice served. We then all ordered their $5.00 steak and cheese sanwiches which were wonderful. Personally, I've been a customer since 1981 when they were called Karl Ehmers Meat Market. Summary: Great food to be found here, just not the Turducken

This restaurant did not pass my number one criterion: Would I go back? No. The Turducken was pretty good for a $12-$13 dish, but it cost $20 and all three in our party who ordered agreed that they wouldn't order it again. But there were service problems too and it's not air conditioned. Or at least the A/C wasn't working on Memorial Day weekend. We ordered a bottle of sparkling wine, which was brought to the table, opened and served warm. Even as a child, I knew that was wrong. Then the bottle was placed in a container with a small block of ice that had no chance of cooling it and I had to ask for more ice to cool it down. The same waiter then mistakenly wrote down an additional entre when taking our order. My wife was ordering an appetizer of Beef Tips for our young daughter as an entre and he brought both an entre and the appetizer portion for our 6-year-old... then charged us for both. We ended up paying for his mistake. Also, there were no napkins or silverware at the table when we were seated and it stayed like that until our dinners were served and we had to ask for napkins and utensils. Overall it was a very disappointing experience and I would not recommend Alpine to potential diners.

Alpine Steak House is a rare find in a city that supports at least two glossy magazines focusing on how artfully chefs can present their food. With red highback booths forming two rows, the ski-cabin restaurant is well outside the prententiousness of the type of places that charge $6 for a side of beans. When you get there, an old man with an accent and an apron, who I believe is the owner, takes you to the table while joining in on the banter of your conversation with stories of his own. He stops by the table to chat often, and he has interesting things to tell you about his homeland of Scotland, I believe, and anything else. The beer selection is priceless and the food is so good and so not expensive. Do get the garganzola salad if you order a steak dinner. This delicious salad comes in the coolest bowl ever. The servers are very friendly and helpful and they'll stay and chat with you if you encourage them. One of them was even able to translate my last name into its meaning in Polish. The filet mignon, topped with a light Bernaisse, is perfect. My husband has reported that the goulash there is amazing, and the three other people we have gone there with all thoroughly enjoyed their steak or lamb choices. You will leave there full, fat and happy with more money left in your pocket then you thought there'd be after a meal so splendid. The desserts are nothing special, however. They do not have German Chocolate cake, which seems oh so wrong. I suggest that everybody join in on the lobbying effort to bring in the coco-chocolate goodness.

Not sure why this place got any bad reviews. The decor is old fashioned but charming and very clean. For appetizers we had a shrimp cocktail and fried green tomatoes. The shrimp (6) where fresh and large and the fried green tomatoes where crispy and delicious survey with ranch dressing. For dinner we both ordered the special petite filet and 1/2 lb of snow crab legs along with a twice baked potato. The steaks were perfectly cooked and the twice baked potatoes were hot and very good. The only thing I would not order again are the snow crab legs. They were hardly worth the effort and there wasn't much to them all. So, all in all I will definitely go there again but skip the crab legs. Our total for two drinks, two appetizers, two twice baked potatoes, steak and crab legs came to around $77 before tip.

Stopped by on a road trip. Service was great. Menu had a lot of great options. Very good beer list. We stopped for the turducken. Wished we would have ordered it with gravy on the side so we could see how it's all layered together. I had a hard time distinguishing between the different fowl with the gravy. The dish was tasty. We also got the Greek salad which was large and very good.
