Best Italian & my FAV on St. Armand's Circle!! The service is usually great and I love that every time I go I usually walk right in and I have a table. The patio is also a nice option. They are also open late. Upstairs they have salsa dancing on the weekends, so go dance your booty off then come downstairs and grab a pizza. My favorites are: -bruschetta -Caprese salad -pizzas (Margherita & the Margherita fresco) -gnocchi -tiramisu Every time I go I always have an enjoyable server. The wine list is usually very good, and make sure you ask about the specials if they don't tell you. If you are hungry on St. Armand's this is my go-to restaurant. Good service, good food, good people. I'm a fan!! Cheers & Enjoy!

This place was fun. Friday, Saturday & Sunday night bachata & salsa dancing! YES! We'll be back!

Great pizza and lovely atmosphere. Extensive wine list and cheerful bartender. I had a lovely time eating here.

Came here after an unpleasant experience at another fine St. Armand's establishment. Linda, the bartender, made sure we weren't permanently soured by this area. She was friendly, outgoing, informative, and helpful. We enjoyed her company while we had a quick bottle of wine at the bar. We tried their house Cabernet and it was good. After reading other reviews, I wish we'd had some pizza! We had a great view of the brick oven from the bar. This place is clean and dark and romantic. I was there with friends and it proved to be perfect for that too.

Fantastic brick oven pizza made with high quality ingredients. Great taste, great crust, great Pizza. The manager could not have tried any harder to give us great service. Would return here in a heart beat.

So thank goodness we found this place. Coming from bad experience from across the way. Linda, our bartender, was so sweet and welcoming. We got lucky, and sat right up at the bar. She sold us on a bottle of wine, and we had good conversation. I will absolutely be back, and recommend this place.

My husband and I have been here many times. We have shared pizza with friends and family that visit. This weekend was my last visit. It's so sad because the pizza is so good!! It's the customer service that I just can't tolerate any longer. The server with long hair and glasses and says "ello" is horrifically rude and slow. The bartender Joe (50ish) is rude, arrogant, and constantly talking of his personal issues with his 20 year old girlfriend. On at least 3 different visits, my husband and I have heard his stories of his problems dealing with someone so young. He also pushes his private massage therapy on the older ladies. Yuck! Gives me the chills. I also get the feeling the staff wants us to eat and get out.

We ended up at this restaurant on a whim while walking around the circle. We all decided we could use a drink (for the adults) and a snack (for the kids). We sat outside, and were waited on by a gentleman that had a great and very dry sense of humor, which was just right for us. I was uncertain how it would go over having the two kids with us (who were sort of crabby from hunger, despite having ice cream not to long before), as some restaurants aren't all that welcoming for the kiddos, but these guys were great! We ordered a pasta dish that wasn't on the menu (alfredo sauce with chicken and broccoli) for the 4 year old, and the burrata dish for the 10 year old. Both dishes were incredibly good, and very fresh. The adults drank prosecco, which was delicious, and nibbled on the kids' food. It was a perfect afternoon stop for us.

Excellent Italian food. Thin crust pizza made in a real wood fired pizza oven. Nice staff and totally acceptable prices. Was very nice!

15 South has some of the best food in Sarasota, Florida. Their pizza is probably the most authentic Italian Pizza that I've had since moving to the U.S. Try the Pizza Parma and a glass of red wine. Wonderful atmosphere, delicious food, live music and friendly staff.

Decent food but took fifty minutes after we ordered. Server warned us not to order pizza. Good warning as people beside us got pizzas thirty minutes after other dishes. He should've told us everything was going to take forever. We could've decided to go elsewhere.

Decent pizza, but the rude old guy in the gray pony tail makes for a very unpleasant experience. Mr crabby is always there. Clearly, he's only there because he has to be. Too many good places on st armands to waste your time with this one.

My husband and I went there late on a Saturday night in April and started off with a delicious white sangria. Then we watched as our caesar salad and ciccia pizza were made before our eyes. The pizza was cooked in their wood fired oven right beside the bar. The pizza chef even asked if we wanted extra cheese or other toppings as he was making our pizza. After dinner we headed upstairs to the martini bar where a local band was playing latin music. The bartender was friendly and poured a strong drink. There was such a mix of people there, and everyone was either dancing or enjoying a cocktail. There were even some gray-white haired couples shaking their hips! We lost track of time dancing, talking to some younger local people, and having a great time. We laughed as we walked out of 15 South at close to 2 AM, and onto the dead-quiet streets of St. Armand's Circle. We have been visiting the area for years, but never knew that this night-time ghost town held such a lively, fun place for after hours.

15 SRE is the proverbial hidden gem. You walk in here, and you could easily be in Boston's North End. Hundreds of wine bottles, Italian maestro on the piano, wood fire burning in the oven. Surreal. Here's the rub on the pie, only: the pizza could be much, much better. I make my own dough, crust, sauce and wood fire in a Kamado style smoker. And I collect great pizza joints around the U.S. (qualifying statement). Real, wood or coal fired pizza has a firm crust that holds up. Crust here is soggy, floppy as it approaches the tip. Too much cheese, and the slices lack definition. guest next to me had it right: ordered his pie extra crispy with extra sauce. Young, cocky pizza chef took offense. Very close to being a great joint, but if you have a wood fired oven in an authentic Italian eatery, the classic Neapolitan principles of pizza making must be followed. First time here, and I would go back to sample the entrees, which looked amazing coming out. Ambiance is spot on, worth the pop in for a glass of wine. Bartender was sweet, had zero wine knowledge, however.

Great service. Authentic Italian. Frutti di mare best I've ever had. Live music most nights. One if the more down to earth restaurants on the circle. Seemingly good selection of Tuscan reds.

Amazing food! Very authentic Italian. Wonderful Buratta cheese with artichoke hearts. Also love the Carpaccio - perfect. The pasta is also delicious as well as the veal dishes. You really feel like you are in Europe.

Have visited this restaurant on my last two trips to Sarasota and it is always a good experience. My husband and I had dinner there last night and our waiter was very friendly and attentive. We quickly got our drinks and some bread. We ordered the mussels that were on special and split the arugula salad. The mussels were good but somewhat fishy and the salad was delicious. For my main entree I got the penne bolognese. Portion was generous and it was very good. My husband got the seafood risotto and he was impressed with the amount of seafood in the dish. Will definitely be visiting 15 South again!

They have some of, if not the best pizza on St. Armand's Circle. The only problem is the customer service --it seems as if they want you to order, eat and leave. I have been there many times and most visits have been very good in terms of both food and service. However, my last time there took our waiter way too long to take our order and get us our food. When the food came the pizza was cold and not enjoyable. I would have asked them to remake it, but I knew if I did we would have been there for at least another hour waiting.

  • FoodMaven X.

Inconsistency reigns supreme. Pizza being the exception, no single dish ever prepared the same way twice. Some proteins air the suspicion of previously frozen. Salad veggies may come shredded or in large chunks requiring a paring knife to reduce to bite-size. Bread runs the gamut from crusty-fluffy-dusted with delicious seasonings to stale, deteriorated, should be in the breadcrumb bin. Over the years having had ample opportunity to have been both served well and near to abused by the staff. Yes, I have experienced the "you didn't leave me a tip" guy. No surprise when he chased us down with this one last insult despite having been graced with a generous tip. In soothing contrast, the Saturday night Pianist plays (sings) the Blues, a full range of Jazz Standards, & meh, a little Disco.

I was very pleasantly surprised at the inviting atmosphere, attractive decor, enjoyable live music, and delicious food. The salmon Verde was terrific and the waiter was a lot of fun. We are definitely going to return and look forward to our next visit.

I was searching for a place to eat. I started downtown and everything was closed. A friends suggested 15 South. I've been here before but not in awhile because I usually stay downtown. This place is great. Great service and great pizza. One thing I love about any pizza is when it's wood fired and they do it there....with oak logs. We sat outside and met a great couple in town for a visit. The wine list is good and the food is great. Enjoy.

My family and I went here this past summer for dinner and I must say we all loved it. The waitress we had was very nice and the decor was very rustic. My wife and two sons were very happy with the food quality. The Pizza we had was one of the best pizza we ate in the country. If you go here try the pizzas believe me I'm a chef. I can't wait to go back next year with my family on vacation!!!!

Unfortunately this restaurant was so bad I wish I didn't have to give it even one star. My family and I are 20 + year visitors the Sarasota and Longboat Key area. Over the years we have eaten at many restaurants in the area and unfortunately this has to be one of the absolute worst. My husband and I along with our two daughters at 15 South on Sunday, June 8th based on many of the reviews that we read on Yelp and Tripadvisor.com . I was leery from the moment we arrived as there were only a few diners sitting at the bar. The rest of the restaurant was virtually empty. The host who seated us was very unfriendly and unwelcoming. The only positive comment I can make is that our server was very nice. The poor girl looked at us like you are actually going to eat here? We ordered the Calamari appetizer which was very rubbery and our Caesar salads were nothing to write home about (I think they use bottled dressing). My husband ordered the Scaloppini that was accompanied by mashed potatoes and broccoli. The sides were the only part of the meal that he could eat because the veal was so tough. I ordered the Gnocchi with Marinara, one of my daughters had the Manicotti and the other ordered Lasagna. All of the pasta dishes tasted like they had been previously frozen and had that freezer burn taste and the Marinara is an odd orange color. Not one of us ate more than a few bites of our meals and we walked out all believing that we would be sick and vomiting before morning. I live in Chicago where we arguably have some of the BEST Italian restaurants in the U.S. and I am of Sicilian descent so I can tell the difference between good and bad Italian food. I would absolutely NOT recommend this restaurant when there are so many better options on the circle like Le Collone (Italian), Columbia, Crab and Finn and Tommy Bahama's. Avoid this place.

Came here with a very large group last Sunday evening and couldn't have been happier with everything. Service was very prompt, even with refills. My boyfriend and I each ordered the ravioli 3 cheese alfredo which was absolutely fantastic.

A beautiful evening at St. Armands circle to enjoy an Italian dinner on my wife's birthday. Restaurant is a bit dated needs new menus but provides an adequate ristorante experience. Our waiter Matt did a nice job, decent wine choices and all menu items were good to very good including bruschetta, just a bit soggy. Really good carpaccio, could have used some bread or bread sticks. Entrees of seafood Cappellini and gnocchi in Bolognese sauce were both good. Finished with chocolate cake and cheese cake, fresh coffee and Bailey's. Would probably visit again but future visitors should know it's St. Armands priced Italian.

I came to Sarasota with my girlfriend on vacation from NYC in March for my birthday, and on 3/22 (my actual bday) she took me to 15 South on recommendation from locals on a good Italian spot in St. Armands as we were staying in a hotel on Lido beach. She had made an 8pm reservation and requested an outdoor table, however we were seated inside at a tiny table so close to other guests that we were rubbing elbows, literally. Our waiter was an older white haired man who was at first a bit strange which turned in to flat out rude by the middle of the meal. He would barely acknowledge us, and especially my girlfriend, and was just overall very odd and rude throughout the meal. I found out after we left that my girlfriend asked him 3 times to surprise me with a birthday dessert (which she would gladly pay for, but just wanted the dessert with candle etc..which is pretty standard at any restaurant) and he never brought it. We were nice enough to not complain there and then as we just wanted to leave and go elsewhere for drinks to forget the dinner experience, but the table right next to us had no problems complaining about him on the spot as they found his service awful as well and he took away their appetizer before they were even finished eating it. Also the food was very sub-par Italian, we live in NYC and eat great Italian all the time, and this place was very amateur, child friendly Italian food. Boxed pasta smothered in melted cheese is pretty much what we received. I'll never go back here or recommend it to anyone visiting Sarasota.

Beginning with the service ending with the meal. Our server made us feel like regulars with such attentive service. The food left nothing to be desired, delicious and satisfying. My husband and I shared the San Danielle pizza and the Lasagna. Regrettably, we could not finish off the San Danielle. Luckily, we had it for lunch the next day and it was just as good. Don't get caught up in the other restaurants in the area that are noticeably full. This is a great experience with out compromising on anything.

I was here last week with a big group. I can say I was thoroughly dissappointed with the food. The bread was ok, but the chicken was overcooked and all around not good. The service was fine. The staff was friendly to us. If I ever visit Sarasota again I do not see myself coming back. I guess at night it turns into a Salsa club.

I ordered take out, lasagna and crab bisque. Total came to $54. I later found out it was a mistake and had to return for a refund. They were very remorseful about the mistake and I don't hold a grudge. Just make sure you check your bill. This is a very popular place in the circle. p.s. I also spent New Year's Eve here....It was hectic. There was one middle aged female waitress with a strong accent that served us. She is fantastic, an absolute sweetheart. She is the one that makes the restaurant amazing. Wish I could remember her name. p.p.s. Order the Tiramisu, it's delicious. Martini bar on the upper floor featuring latino dancing.

I am here on business with a group of six. I suggested this restaurant because I have been here before. The food was awesome. However, at the end of the meal and drinks the waiter brings the checks which we asked for separate. No problem so far. We all pay and the waiter comes back and says to one of our party, a single professional mother of three, "Is there a problem with the service? You did not leave a tip." I was more than appalled. It was not cool and more than rude. He has no idea what was going on. The other five left better than 20% each which I was very tempted to rescind. It is unfortunate that the food here is as good as it is because I will NEVER be back. I went in afterward to express my displeasure as the waiter's lack of courtesy and he wanted to argue with me. I can only speak with my wallet and I can't stand for this treatment regardless of how good the food is.

We are on vacation and were looking for a nice Italian restaurant to dine at. The food was delicious and the restaurant is decorated very nicely. There was live entertainment when we went which was not overbearing and added nicely to the atmosphere. If you are ever in armands circle looking for a good Italian restaurant, look no further.

Pretty darn awful. Pizza Margharita was undistinguished pizza sauce covered by some cheese reported to be mozzarella di bufalo and one piece of green leaf smothered by said cheese. Crust was undercooked Manicotti also smothered by cheese. Waiter didn't bring bread. House Chardonnay was tasteless and took forever to get to the table. Vegetables as side dish were overcooked.

Come here for good Italian. It's an upscale place in the evenings, so arrive before 7pm if you're not up for the suit-and-tie dinner thing. The place is a library of wine bottles. I would hate to work here, but it's fun to torture the new staff. Sit at the bar and ask for Romi. She is the resident oenophile and knows her bottles. Options are available at any price point, and you won't find a bad sip in the bunch. My husband and I walked in around 5pm on a Saturday. For snowbird Floridians (read: anyone over the age of 65), this time is also referred to as dinner. I prefer the term "lunner", since it falls pretty much at the halfway mark between my lunch & dinner schedule. (I live in NYC, but I grew up in Sarasota so I know the ropes...though technically, I'm now a tourist.) But I digress. We got a plate of fresh bread and the house Italian dressing while we waited for our food. Oh. My. Goodness. That dressing is the nectar of the gods. We were shameless - dipping each morsel of bread to within an inch of its life, just to get more of that incredible sauce!! We even asked for another bread plate. No luck on the ingredients, though. It's a house specialty and I don't blame them a bit for keeping it a secret. My lunner consisted of housemade pasta bolognese. Heaven. I finished the whole friggin thing, and would have licked the sauce off my fingers AND the plate if I'd been alone. Next time I'm ordering take out so I can do just that. My husband sampled the mahi-mahi. So tender, so flavorful, so -- completely gone in the blink of an eye. Bummer. I wanted another bite. Minus one-half star for the stacks of wine crates lining the floor and the half-eaten plate of appetizers sitting on the bar when we arrived -- though we did come between lunch and dinner. Minus another half-star for their mixed drinks (margaritas were way sour, and not strong) -- but again, to be fair, I ordered a mixed drink at a wine bar. I should know better. The bottle of red that followed my mediocre drink was splendid.

Bad singer, 35 years past prime if he ever had one. Grumpy, pushy waiter. Unfriendly service over all. Bad food. Sick all night. Would only recommend if I really disliked a person. I imagine the Olive Garden would be an improvement.

My husband and I dined there yesterday. We were greeted by Linda the bartender, who suggested a good Cabernet by the glass. We split a Caesar salad and the Pasta Bolognese. Both dishes were ample in size even when split. The pasta and sauce were delicious, one of the best we have ever had. Lots of meat left over to spoon onto the fresh bread. Their house dipping sauce for the bread was tangy and very tasty. Not only was the food outstanding but Linda the bartender made our experience unforgettable!!

As soon as you enter ,the ambiance of a Tuscany Italian rustic restaurant is there and you ll love it ,Well expended selection on some great wine. The waiter (Gunther ) was very help full and knowledgeable . Finally when our dishes hit the table there was silence for 30 minutes, need I say more.Delicious , Delicious.

Went last night thinking we would stay for Salsa but couldn't hang till 10:30 when it started. Enjoyed Manny our waiter, a character to say the least. Also had a great conversation with the 94 yr old piano player. Food was soso, lousy salad, decent veal Marsala. The vibe is old world Italian at the bar(very nice) and family style in the back. Not a bad place to go if you don't wanna schlep all the way into Sarasota or beyond from Longboat.

The one time I came here it was a family get together and it was extremely dressy and elegant. It apparently had a nice wine list and I enjoyed my linguini carbonara very much. It was a pretty good place and I really enjoyed the bread and appetizers.

The smell of the apple wood burning pizza oven when you walk in the door is enough to make your mouth water. It is by far my favorite on the circle, of course I LOVE pizza! We stopped by on a Sunday evening this time so it was not to busy it was just right, a live piano bar down stairs and upstairs every night of the week is live entertainment which includes Latin acts, belly dancing, Caribbean bands, Big Bands, pop bands and other unique acts from around the Sarasota area. We ordered the Quattro Formaggi Pizza which is the 4 imported cheeses, and the Ai Frutti Di Mare Pizza which was shrimp, crab & mussels, simply wonderful combo both with fresh tomato!! The Rutherford Napa Valley Merlot was smooth and had a fabulous finish, just a perfect cozy place to people watch! We have eaten at 15 South several times and it's excellent from the service to the meal; every time, & Sooooo many wines to choose from!!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
