Drove past this place for years but I'm not sure why. I just never heard much about it I guess. Monday was probably my 4th or 5th visit in the last 12 months. It's locally owned and I always like to support small business. The selection is fine for a little sub shop. They have some overlap with Subway but they also have cheese steaks. I lived in New England for a while so I tend to avoid cheese steaks elsewhere because they don't get it right in the least. I have to say that Skibo's other subs are a half step up from Subway but the cheese steaks are that in name only. If it isn't made to order on a flat top with the bun placed over the cooking meat and veggies it isn't a cheese steak. One can argue yes or no on the cheese options but pre-cooked meat and veggie mixture is not a cheese steak. It's a sub with veggies and beef. Fine if you like that sort of thing but I could walk to 3 or 4 places when I lived in Boston that would of been right at home in New York or Philly. This place not so much. The toppings are better than most places. The bread is standard American white sub bread. No crusty baguette or sourdough to be found here but it is Florida and the price for citrus trees in our yards and wearing sandals all 12 months is that the bread here generally blows. If you're from here then I'm sure it's fine. You can't know what you're missing so this is the way it's supposed to be. The meats are bit hit or miss. Some are higher quality than others. The hams seem pretty good but the turkey always has a very processed quality about it. The Cuban isn't too authentic but it's very, very tasty. I haven't tried the meatball subs or any of the salads. The potato salad is fresh and they've opted to let you control the salt level. Some would call that bland but I don't mind. You can always add some but you can't subtract it. The place is always quite clean which is a plus. I would say this visit they had staged some meat and onions to cook for cheese steaks on a cold griddle. It's disconcerting to stare past an employee at a 15 pound pile of raw steak and a bunch of onions sitting in a pool of blood on a stone cold flat top grill. I would rethink this plan if I was in charge. All in all it's ok. It's local. It's food.

I order "The Ultimate Steak and Cheese," according to the menu it's a Philly cheese steak with sautéed onions, green peppers and mushrooms. Sounds good right? I received a ground up wade of steak with onions and canned mushrooms. There were no green peppers or cheese on my sandwich. My boyfriend got the Cuban sandwich, he said it was ok, but agreed with me. "Should've gone to WaWa"

They serve three sizes of subs: 8",12" or XXL. They had a special of 8" Seafood sub for $4 so I went ahead and tried that. With a side of fries. The ladies that worked behind the counter were nice and smiles while taking our orders. Sub was mediocre. Fries were good. Place was clean.

Excellent clean friendly good bang for the buck sub shop. Chip selection could be stronger. Excellent toppings - all very fresh, and the workers willing to assist with things you might want to try, Good iced tea, pop mix was good too. I will be back again!

I've eaten at Sobik's for over 30 years and while I don't always go there it is because their locations are in area not centralized to Orlando. My only close location is Apopka, but Lake Mary has a location too. Their sandwiches are all good but over the years I wonder if they changed the bread. I remember the bread being perfect when I was a kid but now (while still good) isn't as good as Lawless subs in Altamonte Springs. I have several favorites at Sobik's. One is the meatball, also the Italian beef and the cuban. All hot pressed subs. The Italian is standard along with the tuna, ham/cheese and the Sobik's signature for the cold sandwiches. I usually get chips and a drink but the potato salad I had was OK, not as good as what I make at home. If I'm hungry and I'm near one I'll pull in for a meal, but I can't recall the last time I had a desire to drive across town just to get one. It's all good, but just not my favorite.

If you want a great sub, and you're not a fan of the 'Way, this is the perfect place to go in Sanford. My favorite is their cheese steak sub - plenty of hot and melty cheese. We had a friend helping us put up a fence recently, and we worked all day out in the hot Florida sun. We were starving at lunch time, but too hot and too sweaty to go to a really fancy place, and we didn't want fast food. Skibos was perfect, it saved our lives. Their subs are huge and I usually split one with my husband - it really fills you up!

After days of hearing ads on the radio( WTKS104.1) exclaming how great this place was I went and was not impressed. The cheese steak I had was decent but didn't hold a candle to some others I have enjoyed. A place in Casselberry, FL called Amelia's closed down and they had the best cheese steak I have ever had. Skibo's is clean and neat, the person behind the counter was neither here nor there . They serve three sizes of subs, hot and cold. They offer small cups of macaroni salad and potato salad as a side and they have a deal for $2.49 more than the price of the sub, you get a drink, chips and a cookie. A friend who was with me and my husband tried the potato salad and he said it was mediocre. This restaurant is Sobik's spelled backwards. Had I realized that I probably would not have gone at all. Maybe they are trying to reinvent themselves..... Thanks to WTKS radio I am sure their business has improved but once the curiosity about this place goes away it will be just another sub shop.
