Colorado's is really surprising in a good way. I have always had excellent steak and prime rib on every visit I have made here (up to 4 so far...). Colorado's makes it easy to get a stand-out meal without the drama of other steakhouses. The building is tucked away and is modest by most standards. The interior is out of date and while decorated in a country fashion, it isn't contrived like Cracker Barrel is...I'm not going to say the atmosphere is great. It isn't but it does feel authentic to what the owner intended it to be. What is great is the smoked flavor that you smell whenever someone has their food delivered. Colorado's has a great wood-based smoked taste to all of their meats that is really distinctive. Once you have a meal here a sense memory kicks in (for me) if someone mentions Colorado's. The menu is decent, but frankly their vegetable selections are lacking. A vegetable medley doesn't count as selection and the salads, while large don't fill that gap. Let's be honest. Looking around Colorado's the patrons aren't too concerned about that. The steaks are extremely tasty-worth coming for alone. The signature prime rib has been nothing less than stellar for me on every visit and if you count potatoes as a vegetable you can have them in great abundance. Service is hit and miss. I have never seen a professional server here. This is the place where decent looking high-school girls go to work and a friend of a friend hooks them up with a job. If you have a driven, ambitious server trying to make some cash for college you will be attended to appropriately. If your server is looking for a smoke break, you might be waiting awhile. Again, this is all OK to some people who come here but if you need continuous prompt service allow for some level of disappointment during your visit. I tried it once and came back three more times. I usually like a little more flash in my pan but... Sometimes you just want a really good steak but don't want to make reservations and get dressed up. On those times when it would be really nice to just park and get seated soon as you enter Colorado's is your place. If you can get your server to drop your menus in a timely fashion and return take your order efficiently you will most likely have a really good meal.

This a review of a steak house by/for those who don't eat steak. As a pescatarian, I know I can always join people for a meal at a steak house because there WILL BE a fish option. Not to disappoint, Colorado's Prime Steak did indeed have a fish option, and I got it, and it definitely left something to be desired. I ordered the blackened fish sandwich, which said it was going to come on a Kaiser roll, well, it came on a hoagie roll, little better than a hotdog bun IMO. The fish was not cooked well, nor was it seasoned well. Overly salty and greasy. For a drink I got an Arnold Palmer, and it was good. I have no objections to the decor, the waitstaff, nor the customer amenities (bathroom). If anyone suggests going there again, I would probably join them, but I would get something different. Not sure what though...

Great restaurant! I go there with my dad all the time and usually get a burger or some other sandwich. Don't think I've ever been disappointed when it comes to food quality or service.

What a great place to have a GREAT steak, baked potato, and salad. This was my first visit but will certainly not be my last! Bryn was my server and she was excellent. I came in an hour before closing on deaths doorstep after not eating all day and instead of dragging her feet she was quick to get me some bread and salad to get my sugar level up and back to normal. Great experience!

Having grown up in the west, I'm familiar with how a steak house should be. Colorado's always makes me feel like I'm back home. Some call the place dingy. I call it homey, warm, and comfortable. Some of the best steaks in town.

EXCELLENT FOOD! Finally, a restaurant that is not afraid of serving the food hot. The salads have homemade dressing, the smoked prime rib was amazing and that homemade bread pudding - WOW! Casual atmosphere and very clean. I will definitely be coming back. :)

The last time I went here was a couple days ago, and the service wasn't so bad. The food was great, our waitress was sweet, and we didn't have to wait very long for our food. However, one star was lost because the entire time we were eating, we heard some of the waiters talking smack about the tables they were waiting. I'm not sure they knew we could hear, but still. Other than that, amazing service!

I went for lunch on Friday. They have a fish sandwich special on Friday. My friends opted for it. I went with the double burger again. I sould have gone with the fish. Not that the burger was bad, it was great. Huge patties, bigger than I remember. A real two-fister, bulldog hunch burger. Cooked a perfect medium. Nice and drippy. But the fish sandwich looked AWESOME! They both got the fried fish (battered), but I think you can get it blackened and pan fried too. Side of fries, salad substitute for $1.50. They only bad points: the kitchen is slow. The place was at least half empty and it took a while to get our food. I could only imagine the delay when they are packed. The other point was the waitress. She could have been a little more attentive to our table. She only checked back once. We had to flag down another waitress for refills and steal napkins from another table. The burger juice was running down my arm like Niagra Falls!. If you have the time to spend, it's great. If you are in a hurry for lunch, I would recommend going elsewhere. But the food makes up for the delay.

First of all..smoke prime rib is not good. Ordered medium well and it came out well done. You might not think thats much difference but they cooked the juice right out of it. The stuffed mushrooms was nothing but a saugage roll in a bowl. This place is not expensive but it is not much better than a Ponderosa. And they might have better cooks.

Went there for the first time, I have been passing this place every day for 9 years and tonight we ate there. What can I say, fool that I am to have not gone sooner. The food was great, the service was great... we loved it and it's 5 min from my house.

The atmosphere is great. It would almost be kitsch if it wasn't so authentic. The service was good. The other people I dined with seemed pretty happy with their food, but I ordered the L'il Steak which turned out to be a flat piece of disappointment, especially for the price.

My wife and I have went here twice as we live in Sanford and are always looking to go to locally owned businesses. We are going to have to write off Colorado's after two disappointing visits. The first time I got their Smoked Primed rib which was highly recommended by the server. My Prime rib had so much fat on it that I hardly had any meat and my wives steak was a piece of shoe leather. Our second visit was not any better. I tried their Silver city Chicken and the onions that were on top of the chicken tasted like they had been re-heated after soaking in dirty water or something. My chicken breast was dry and over cooked and the bake potato tasted like it had been boiled instead of baked. We gave this place a second chance but we are done with Colorado, maybe we will give it a a try in another year or so and hope they get a new cook and servers that want give good service.

Getting a tasty steak dinner (NY strip, mixed veggies, baked potato bread) for under $20 bucks is a pretty good deal. It's a bit dingy which is fine with me. The service is sometimes acceptable, but usually terrible (which leads up to my two-year absence every now and then). There are better steakhouses in Sanford.

There's nothing "prime" about Colorado's Prime Steak other than it's name. As a former butcher, I can tell the difference between USDA grade meats, and prime is the top echelon. Without verifying any of my assumptions w/ the staff, I can still be 100% sure that they are serving choice grade meat at best. Their advertising a lie. That being said, this joint is still good. Staff is timely and courteous. The interior is decorated w/ old relics from the 19th and 20th centuries, and a giant stuffed deer head adorns the wall behind the bar, serving as the establishments mascot. The food, albeit inaccurate, was delicious. Menu contains salads, appetizers, steaks, chops, chicken, sandwiches and more. They have a daily lunch special corresponding w/ the day of the week, and also advertise what regions of the country the potatoes used for that day are from. I've eaten there a dozen times and try to eat something different every time. However, there are a few dishes that are worth writing about... The fried button mushrooms under the appetizers are hands down the best in central Florida. You can even ask for a 1/2 order if you're the only one interested. But take my advice, get a full order. The others in your party will end up stealing them anyways (Yes, they're that good!). If you like steak sandwiches, then the Dark Horse Saloon sandwich is a must. Ribeye steak smothered w/ carmelized onions, sandwiched between two pieces of sourdough bread with melted swiss on top. It's friggin awesome. They have phenomenal soups, made fresh in house, as well as a soup of the day. Their french onion and cream of mushroom are delicious. Pricing is a bit high in my opinion. Where I can't quote exact prices, I know eating a salad, soup and soda for over $12 seems a bit steep. Salads are about $9, appetizers $8, steaks, chicken and chops go for around $17 on average, and the sandwiches are around $8-$10. All in all, this is an easy choice if you're looking for a good meal that is a little more pricey than they should be. I'll continue eating here.

After driving by this nondescript little steakhouse for years, we found ourselves hungry and nearby. Why not? Let's give them a try. Parked up front, were greeted by teenage dude. Chose booth over table. Sat. And sat. Sat some more. This was followed by more sitting. I proclaimed, after a solid 8 minutes, that I would count backwards from 50. If I reached zero without us being at least acknowledged, we would bail. I got to zero. Nothing. Oh, look! Here come two servers bringing food to the elderly table next to us. Surely they would greet us...right? Not right. No wave, words, middle finger, nada. How this can happen is beyond me. How much effort does it take to say "folks, I'll be right with you"? Clearly more effort than the staff was willing to put forth. I told the aforementioned teenage dude that we were leaving as no one had greeted us and that we would spend our money elsewhere. He stared at me, mouth agape, in silence. See ya later, Colorado Steakhouse! We went to Dalli's Pizza instead and loved it.

Um,,, How do I put this, um, ummmm, is NOT Yum!? he he This is nothing at like a true Colorado steak house: I was there a little more then 6 months ago but not over a year ago, and this is my take on the place... The Dark Horse? Nothing like in Boulder- nothing- see link below. darkhorsebar.com/menu I am seeing skirt steak Sandwich, and no smoked nothing in Colorado as far as steaks. In fact the, most people in the know of Boulder, would rather go to the Broker, given its just of the Boulder Turnpike (now called 36, you know the age of some one if they remember days it was called "the Turnpike" he he). Smoking of meat is strictly a southern thing, for the most part. We Grill ours for the norm on Gas Stoves tops. Not a pan friend on electric burner, that I am aware of. And certainly never under a broiler. Lets face it- its just a rip off of a Joint, at best. Plus, its just got nasty food. Trust me, I had hopes for this place, purse out even. And Wow- how week... like yellow snow. There is nothing "Prime" about this place- you can't get prime in a restaurant for 20$, and to be good, it needs to be aged, fired on Gas, not Coals or electric. Prime is a grade of meat- there is not one Prime piece on the menu here. And not one at Dark Horse. Their steak is a steak- that all folks. Check out a real Steak house in Colorado This is one of many- but my Favorite. brookssteakhouse.com The interior isn't anything like a Colorado, not even close. We had 3 adults & 2 children. This is a hard review for me because my dinner was great but my wife and mother were not happy, but since I'm the one writing I have say "A-OK". I had the 16oz New York strip with a baked potato and a huge wedge salad! We ordered the fried tomato app but it seemed like it was frozen prepackaged or bagged, not very good. My wife ordered the steak kabobs and they were severely over cooked but since we had waited so long to get our meal, (very busy) we didn't want to wait for another one to be cooked. My mother had the prime rib and said it was tough. The restaurant took the prime rib off of the bill without a mention. Prices were very good and the atmosphere was very "old school" steakhouse like. I will definitely go back, I just may have to leave my wife home!

We eat at Colorado's quite often and have never been disappointed. The burgers are absolutely the best at any price. The tolls are always fresh and The salad is always crisp and fresh. The steaks are cooked to perfection. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because of decor. But the food is always tops.

OK, so I'm a vegetarian. But I've been a vegetarian for many, many years, and I can usually eat pretty much anywhere. Apparently, not here. And I asked about vegetarian options and was told I could have pretty much anything "adjusted". Yeah, not so much. Not a whole lot of options you can adjust. Salads that you can pull the meat off of, or side dishes. Thanks but no. Let me start by stating that I was part of a very large party. As such, we had several waiters. However, they couldn't coordinate the service. So half of our table was served salads, while the other half wasn't served at all. Then, that first half was eating their mains, while the second half was just barely being served their salads. The service on the half of the table I was at was gawdawful -- I'm sorry, but please do not sling a plate down in front of me. The waitress was just plain rude. Yes, we were a large party, but hon? You were getting a guaranteed tip, weren't you? You could've been a bit nicer. (What happened to that southern charm I hear about? Seriously missing here.) OK my food. I ordered a spinach salad and a baked potato. I expected the salad to come out with the other salads. Nope. I had to ask for it. I'm sorry I did. Worst.Salad.Ever. I sent it away and asked for it to be taken off the bill. How do you ruin a spinach salad? I don't know, but you can start with an overly sweet raspberry dressing, then go downhill from there. Then the baked potato. I asked for butter, sour cream and cheese. The potato came on the smallest plate imaginable (like really? how was I going to eat this on that plate?) Then, apparently, they nuked the cheese on the potato, because there was no way the cold potato could melt that cheese. Yup, cold. Not really even luke warm. No way was the butter going to melt on that thing. I sent it back and asked for another one. The second one? Only marginally warmer than the first. Really, if someone is asking for a hot potato and you bring something barely warm, how happy do you think that person is going to be? Not very. And we were there for two hours before someone came around and asked to refill my water glass. From the comments of the meat eaters around me, the rib eye was awful, the steaks were awful, the prime rib was just barely OK. The artichoke as an app was awful (both the other veg near me and I each took one artichoke, cut it in half and took a bite, and we both left the second bit on our plates). So, bad service and mediocre, if not downright bad, food. Even with a very large party, this should not have happened. And by bad, I mean pretty much rude service. I wish I had taken that waitress's name. Because picture someone slinging a plate down in front of you. Maybe in a diner, but not in a restaurant! So, yeah, eek, methinks not. (And for those of you who questioned why a vegetarian expected a decent meal in a steakhouse, one of the best meals I ever had was actually in a steak house, in Utah, in the middle of rancher country. Really, they TRIED to accommodate a vegetarian, and THIS vegetarian really appreciated it!)

Well I am ashamed. I have lived in Central Florida for 41 Years and in Sanford for the last four and have never eaten at this restaurant until recently. All I have to say is WOW. I have eaten there now at least six times and every time it has been a real treat. The prices are about what you would expect from a nice steak house. I usually order the Rib Eye with a Baked Potato. The meal comes with a good salad. Oh and the croutons are awesome. Fresh baked. I have not been able to deviate from this selection as the steak melts in your mouth however there is quite a selection on the menu . The atmosphere is nice but the booths lighting may be a bit intense. We often unscrew the bulb. Defiantly worth the money.

Love this place! I really wish they would update the interior, but we keep going back for the food and friendly service! Hand cut fries, great burgers, delicious salads! It's a win!

Colorado's could use a good make-over, but the food and staff are AMAZING!! Try it sometime.

Excellent food, great for families? Must try the prime rib. Sirloin kabobs are wonderful. Service is fast and attentive. Great for children
