Food is awesome! Beef brisket is juicy and delicious! Open face turkey is my favorite! Everything is made in house so the taste of everything is extremely flavorful! Chipotle bbq sauce is great! I put it on everything! Even their side items like the broccoli is so simple, yet seasoned perfectly! I highly recommend!

So the wife, kids and I decided to drive around and see if any place caught our eye. Came across Hickory Sticks and was pleasantly surprised. The entire staff was super friendly and informative about everything. Their sauces are great and the main dishes were delicious. I had a Po Boy Pork Sandwich and my wife had a Country Plate. The reason for 4 stars was our appetizer. We had potato skins and one out of the four was literally ice cold. But we were there for the main dishes and the overall experience will have us coming back.

The BBQ chicken dinner was incredibly delicious! I ordered the 1/2 chicken with 2 sides (potato salad and corn cake). I was expecting it to be your typical dry breast meat. But to my total surprise, the chicken was extremely moist! The extra sauce wasn't even necessary, but it was tasty. The sides were also very good! My husband had a mushroom burger (with the onion rings), which was also juicy and very tasty! We've been here many times and I always have the Fish Tacos, which is also very good. My husband loves their half rack. But this time I thought I should try something else. Glad I did!

2 for $25 on Tuesday, one appetizer, 2 entrees, and fried ice cream all for $25. The deal is honestly too good and the food was great and the portions were huge. We would pay full price for what we had any day, but all of it for $25 was awesome!

So I was in the mood for Ribs - and I saw this place that had a special for Monday night. I now understand why they only charge $11.99 for a full slab. The meat definitely did not fall off the bone - I had 4 ribs and couldn't eat anymore. The salad and baked potato were great - but don't get the ribs!

I just finished lunch here. This is a really cool place. Friendly, full service bar, great people and the food was tremendous. I highly recommend Hickory Stix. PS: I am in the food business I know what I'm talking about.

Not what it used to be! The manager has no concept in running a bar. Raised bar prices over 50%, drink pours and food portions are inconsistent. Terrible customer service. Revolving door in waitstaff. Matter of time before doors are closed! Too bad...food was good.

Came here originally when it first opened in the area. That was I believe over a year ago. I came back today expecting the same quality of food. There was a very obvious change in the food. The Mac n cheese used to taste great, now it was dry and had no flavor whatsoever. The meats were all fatty and lacking flavor as well. Service was okay. And the worst part was the women's bathroom. It was filthy and the floor was covered in some unknown liquid. Needless to say, I turned right back around and did not use the restroom. Very disappointed.

A disclaimer first - although this is primarily a BBQ spot, most of us did not order BBQ. I chose this place because it was reasonably priced, close by and had a large variety of food: BBQ, Mexican (SW?), as well as meat & fish entrees. Starving, we ordered a couple of apps. Husband and I shared Hickory Raspberry Wings ($9.95/10). They were tasty, but not as crispy and delicious as some of the wings I have had in the area recently (hello Burgers & Suds, JT's, Billy's). Boys had Mahi Mahi Dip ($7.95). They were pretty surprised that is had big chunks of fish (unlike the smooth fish dip they get at the Quarterdeck). It did have a strange consistency. Still, the boys liked the flavor and they scooped up every drop with the tortilla chips it came with. Husband and I got small Caesar Salads as one of our sides with our entrees and these salads were not good. They came with tortilla strips instead of croutons, the lettuce was not crispy fresh, but what really mad it bad was the spicy dressing. Our gracious server was nice enough to exchange the Caesar's for plain salads with ranch dressing. The only person who got BBQ was my 10 year old who ordered turkey. I found the turkey to be pretty dry & bland. Other BBQ places in the area have much better turkey. The rest of us had house entrees. 9 year old had the Hickory Salmon (Salmon with Raspberry BBQ Sauce - $12.95). I have to admit he LOVED this dish. Of course Mom had to try it and i found it to be tasty enough but over cooked and a little dry. It must have been a "raspberry night", as Husband ordered "The Alamo", Skirt Steak glazed with Raspberry BBQ sauce topped wit a mango salsa. The only problem was that when the steak arrived there was no sign of sauce of any kind. It went back to the kitchen to find it's sauce and even came back with sauce on the side I ordered "The Lone Star", skirt steak with balsamic dressing topped with avocado & grilled tomato slices and a cheese enchilada on the side. The tomatoes were not grilled but they did taste good with the avocado & steak. Did not eat the enchilada - just too much food! Husband thought the steaks were small and I thought it was the perfect size for me. What do do expect for $13.95. I also thought the quality of the skirt steak was okay for that price. For sides, my green beans tasted fresh and good. The fries were fair. I have tasted much better. 9 year old like the coleslaw. Kudos for the service. Our server was pleasant and really eager to please. When something went wrong (i.e. salads, steak) she jumped in right away to fix it without questions asked or attitude. Funny, I chose Hickory sticks for the variety of food. I am thinking after eating there that maybe they should stick to one type of food to really get it right.

Over the past 6mo ths iv'e eaten here several times with hubby and kids. Ribs are always a pleaser. Raspberry wings have a tasty sauce but I'm not crazy about them. Love the spicy slaw and corn cakes. I've never had them but I've been told the sandwiches are pretty good as well. Modestly priced.

This is an update to my previous review. I must agree with some of the more recent reviewers in that the uneducated and unmanaged staff is bringing down the average for this place. I went today for a pick-up order. I came in through the designated Take-Out door and didn't get greeted for almost 5 minutes at the very beginning of the lunch time (11:30am). then, when paying by credit card, the young girl who brought the food and the check asked me if I had a pen or if she should "go get one"? Seriously? Bring a pen to sign a credit card--every time. Other times, I come in for a sit-down and am greeted by two to three young girls who might as well be standing by their high school lockers for all the professionalism that is being portrayed--leaning on the hostess stand or rocking on the horsey at the front. Once they get re-engaged, they seem to want to do well. They need training and managing. I truly like the barbecue here (not the Mexican food which I believe is out of place here), but, there have got to be some changes before I feel comfortable recommending it again to friends.

I pass by this place every day on my way to and from work so I can smell the smoke coming from their smokers. So one day we decided to stop by on a weeknight. Can't go wrong especially with some of the good reviews right? WRONG! The staff was friendly so that's a good sign. It did take a very long time having our order taken. I made sure out menus were closed and looked around to get some attention. Maybe like 10 minutes later out server came to take our order. We ordered the appetizer...I believe it was a tex mex nacho thing with pulled pork. It was pretty good! I ordered the ribs which I forgot what style it was...(St. Louis?) the wife ordered the two meat combo (brisket & babybacks). And for drinks I only ordered a sweet tea. The sweet tea took a while because they said it was still brewing so I'll wait for it. We don't drink alcohol so we opted for water. The ribs were dry! So was the brisket. They said their brisket was the not popular choice. It came out dried. Not even BBQ sauce can save these fellas :( A little history about my "BBQ" knowledge. I'm not claiming to be a chef or grillmaster but I do know my techniques when smoking the meats. Our ribs and brisket looked like it was leftover from last night and then left in the smoker and then reheated over fire to be served again. Not cool. Having been to many places for barbeque, this place did disappoint me. I may go back to give it a second chance but I'm not going to get my hopes up. Oh, what happened to my sweet tea? It came in the middle of dinner and was quickly finished off (due to my throat getting dried from the dried meats) so I asked for another one. I didn't get one until we were almost done with our dinner. :( I wish I hadn't deleted the photos of the meal from my phone. Maybe I'll post them up since I did put them up on Facebook... So maybe this place is a hit or miss. It was definitely a miss for us that night.

This is the best food for the money in Plantation!! It is fresh and tasty. I really love the smoked turkey platter. They serve real turkey, not some fake pressed version like some places. The portions are very large. My husband loves the two meat combo and the baby back ribs. You can get the ribs for $11.50 on Monday after 5 pm. That is an amazing price for really top rate ribs. You must try their spicy coleslaw which is delicious. Their drink prices are very fair. They have 16 oz.miller lite on draft for $1.89. The service is excellent and the restaurant is comfortable and relaxing. This is my favorite place for dinner!!!!

Baby back ribs that will bring a tear to your eye and fresh and tasty sides! I've been here at least 10 times in the last 6 months and it has been so consistently great that I finally had to write a review. You really can't go wrong with any of the smoked meat and both St. Louis and baby back ribs are fantastic, I only wish they did smoked salmon!!

To me, if you can't smell the BBQ, don't bother stopping! Well at Hickory Sticks, not only do you smell the wonderful smoked meats upon approaching the building, but once inside their dining room, there is a window showcasing their smoker and a great story outlining WHY it's the best equipment and as far as I can tell, they're right! First off, we went on a Tuesday for the amazing 2 for $20 deal. Not only were the portions quite generous, this gave us the opportunity to taste nearly all of the meats they offer, and boy were we pleased. From the Pork to the Brisket, to the Sausage, to the Chicken, ALL was spectacular. Smokey, but still juicy and tender. We tried only two of their sauces, and while complimentary to the smoked meat, neither were anything special. But truly, to me, the sign of great BBQ joint is not just the meat at center stage, but can their sides hold their own, and man were these worthy! The Corn Cakes were crispy and sweet, the coleslaw (regular and spicy) was refreshing and classic with a nice twist, the beans were not the sickening-sweet "baked" style, but were a more savory and tasty ranch bean WITH HUGE CHUNKS OF SMOKED PORK in them, and don't even get me started on the perfection that is their mac-n-cheese. Suffice it to say we were in food coma with delight! Texas Toast and perfectly crisp fries were also present but quickly vanished. Oh, and their nachos we had for the appetizer were truly wonderful (in fact my date plans on coming back JUST for these). The fresh chips, guac, salsa, and REAL cheese (not oozy yellow goop) were only humbled by the appearance of their ever yummy smoked pork. Other reviews mention service issues, and while I would agree that their attentiveness to new patrons entering the establishment is dismal, once seated, our server was quite attentive.

Nothing worse than mediocre BBQ. Unfortunately, that's precisely what Hickory Sticks delivers. Bland tasting pork, flavorless coleslaw, greasy fries... the list goes on. Not sure about the experience of others, but the service was pretty subpar when I visited. Was around 1pm and the place wasn't crowded, but my waitress just didn't come by much. No refills, etc. Also, Hickory Sticks only gives you little sample cups of their BBQ sauces, rather than just putting the bottles on the table like every other BBQ restaurant. So when you run out of the teaspoon's worth of sauce they provide, you have to spend 5 minutes flagging down your waitress. Once again, a real disappointment. They should focus less on the bar and more on the BBQ.

Really 1.5 stars but demoted for service. First I ordered a house Salad with Thousand Island dressing...They didn't serve it! No problem I made my own. Next came the tasteless Brisket. The Menu says thick cut... It was shaved the thinnest brisket I ever saw. I had a smoke ring but no trace of seasoning or rub!... Thank god the sickly sweet BBQ sauce was on the side so I hit it up with the "hot green sauce" and habanero sauce. The collard greens had no taste or sign of any pork and the Mac and cheese was very bland. Next up the BBQ chicken which was sent back undercooked the bones were red and bloody. Another side salad and a barely serviceable burger and fries that came out scalding hot soaked in oil with no salt or seasoning whatsoever. and no setup or waitress to check on it. I gave up my fork since by then I was done with my brisket Overall go for the buckets of beer during the Heat games not the under seasoned food!

I have been to Hickory Sticks three times in the last couple of months. I would not say it is great, but it is run of the mill BBQ or a little below. Not much in the way of good BBQ in South Florida/Plantation, so you have to make do. I had the pulled port, brisket, and Baby Backs and as I said all good. Nothing great as far as the BBQ. Waitress / Service is OK. They are all friendly and inviting. Go and enjoy, but don't expect world class BBQ. For those from the CA, it is no Lucille's BBQ.

Great service, great food, though according to several staff members we spoke with about the history of the restaurant it would seem the place is haunted...... No worries the food is good and the staff are super friendly.

So a friend and myself came here for dinner I ordered the half chicken and the waitress said well you should order the whole checking the prices better and I told her I couldn't eat a whole chicken. So I or the half chicken and my friend or the stuffed potato when my plate came out it had a thigh and a leg dock so I told the waitress I thought I go to the Half chicken and she told me that was the half chickenso she took the plate back to the kitchen and the plate came back out with two thighs and two legs and I told her I didn't want just the bottom half I wanted a half chickenshe took the plate back again and then the chicken came out with breast by wing leg correct when she put the plate down she said this is the whole chicken. And she looked at me strangely I said come on what if you seen a chicken will run with one leg and one wing. She told me she doesn't know she only eats chicken wings. So when we pay the bill it only had a quarter chicken on it. So we pay the bill and left on the way out I ask the host if there was a whole chicken on the menu and she said no. So I told her they need to teach the waitress what a whole chicken and a half chicken was and send it back to school. Lol.

This second location has all the great flavors of the original in a fantastic atmosphere - a sound-proof sports bar separate from the spacious dining areas not to mention an outdoor front patio! Hog heaven po' boy, hickory raspberry wings and juicy melt in your mouth St Louis ribs - absolutely terrific!

This location has a perfect private room for a small company party (we had 20 people). The casual atmosphere was just what we were looking for and the full bar was a plus. Food was served buffet style, and judging by the line for "seconds",(and my taste buds) it was a hit. We won't be waiting til the Holidays to book another company get together here!

Food was fair compared to other bbq joints. Sides were very bland with little flavor. Thierry other location was better as a take out then this location. Keep looking for that good bbq joint. If you find one let me know!!!

I ordered take out. Instead of baked beans, I got black beans, even though the container was marked correctly. I called and spoke to someone who asked how they could fix it, and I said just to credit me. Then, after I hung up, I opened the ribs and they had given me St Louis ribs instead of Baby back ribs. Half of the ribs tasted like they had been sitting around for a while. I didn't even call back. Just chalked it up to lesson learned. Couldn't go back to have them fix it. Not going back there ever.

We actually found this place by accident. We wanted to go out to dinner on Friday night, which just happens to be Valentines Day. With all the other restaurants all booked and charging "double", we just want to go some place we think might be off the radar. I drove by this area and never really noticed this place. Later we found out this BBQ place only been in this location for 3-4 months. This is a very typical BBQ place, but what this place got to me the most is the friendly service. We sat at the bar and the two very nice and friendly young bartender ladies really took very good care of us. They gave us very nice warm and welcoming greetings and gave us spectacular service. Now on to the food. I order the two meat combo which included beef briskets and sausages. They were pretty good but I love the smokey flavor in the sausages. We also ordered a BBQ pull pork sandwiches and that was very good too. And another thing I like about this place, other than the charm of the staff and the decoration, is its prices on some of my favorite draft beers. Even its a little bit far from our house, we are looking forward to come back frequently.

Positives: Beer is real cheap, cold. Skirt steaks are pretty good and for half price on their special day, they're the only thing I'd come back for. Service was also pretty good... eager to please. Negatives: Side dishes-- blech! Everything tasted like it came from a can. Mac and cheese like velveeta. The best thing is the cole slaw, but it's hard to screw up cole slaw. The enchilada that comes with the skirt steak with the avocados-- that thing was terrible. It was like a cheese pipe. The BBQ is not at all impressive. We had brisket that tasted boiled. Texture was terrible. This place tries to do too many things. They ought to keep the skirt steaks and overhaul the whole menu. Either focus on the bbq or focus on the tex-mex. I think there is some seriously bad juju at the location they're in. Every restaurant that's been in there has failed. If they don't seriously improve the quality of the food, I wouldn't have much hope that their fate would be any different. If you build it, they will come... but only if it's delicious.

Great neighborhood place. Sit at the bar to hang with the locals. We had- pulled pork sandwich with green beans, brisket sandwich with broccoli and shared a small side of onion rings( ask for a side of chipotle mayo. To dip). The barbecue sauces are all great and with a cold drink can't go wrong.

An EZ 4, and very close to the big *****! Outstanding service and server. As a southern boy, this place gets, no they live bbq and it shows. It is the real thing - I found myself wondering why this place can do it so well when others here are distant wanabees. Spicy slaw got better by the forkfull; chicken and pork were perfect; plantains (not exactly an Alabama tradition) were the best that I've had. Beer is cold. Need I say more? I found a great bbq spot. Thank you - saves me a 12 hour drive home. It is obvious that this place has great pride in what it does. Two suggestions: 1) put the sauces on the tables (they are darn good so be proud of them) & 2) please consider both mustard & mayo based sauces. They would be killer on your chicken.

Came in this afternoon for a late lunch and got some of the best service I've ever had from, Brooke. Ordered the brisket po-boy and wow! It was amazing. I told Brooke I liked spicy food so she brought me Chipotle BBQ and buffalo sauce to go with my meal. The Chipotle BBQ was outstanding!! Altogether amazing!

When the best thing from your ENTIRE meal is your baked potato, something has gone wrong. However, this was seriously the BEST baked potato I've had in YEARS. Real melted cheese, REAL bacon, REAL scallions! Baked just right. Everything else was MEH. First off the menu is slightly odd- a mix of BBQ & then Mexican dishes. I didn't look at the menu prior to arriving so I was a little surprised. I'm of the mindset that as a restaurant you should focus on one thing & do that right. Second, aside from the potato, everything came out just warm. We had 1/2 a BBQ chicken & full slab of baby back ribs. The white meat of the chicken was TOTALLY over cooked & didn't even have a ring of smoke. The dark meat was actually cooked really well & had good flavor. The baby backs actually had a good amount of meat on them (again, I just wish they were hot) I'm sad about this because finding good BBQ these days in West Broward is proving quite difficult. I'm also sad bc on Sunday they have an awesome deal for kids... But I'm not sure it's worth the lousy meal... It might be worth the potato! Oh! One last thing.... Great balloon artist! aside from the potato, everything else came out warm.

This place was overall not bad. In plantation/ sunrise, there are slim pickings when it comes to BBQ. The ribs were great. Their sandwiches were great too. They have like 4 or 5 different BBQ sauces. However, I wish they had them on the table for you to try. You can try them but you need to ask the waitress to bring them out to you.

The restaurant was not busy and the service was slow, it was good but very slow. it was also very disturbing to me that none of the girls on staff had their hair pulled back, being in the food service industry for a number of years the rule is longer than shoulder length it needs to be off your shoulders and up that applies to at the bar as well as on the floor if you are serving food...as for the food it is awesome and reasonable....my only concern is the hygiene of the wait staff

The place as a whole is 3.5 stars, not just 3. I couldn't give it a 4, though, and since I had to choose, 3 stars it is. THE RIBS ARE 5-STAR!! They were FANTASTIC. I got the two meat combo with the ribs and the pulled pork. I took one bite of the ribs and immediately wished I would have gotten the full rack. My wife got the beef brisket, which was also excellent; I would give the brisket 4 stars. The pulled pork was dry and flavorless by itself. 2 stars for the pork. Adding sauce helped. Contrast this with the ribs, most of which I ate without sauce because they were perfect as is. There are 4 sauces, and they are good, some better than others; however, I won't spend time breaking this down because people's preferences are different. I for one do not care for the raspberry sauce, but I can see why some people like it, and it is a creative idea, so kudos for that. Sides were average. We had fries (good), mac and cheese (eh), cole slaw (good), and green beans (I didn't try them). We had queso dip for an appetizer. They add sausage, but it just didn't go it for me, and I would not order it again. Service was fast and friendly. I've seen some reviews complaining about service, but that was not our experience at all. The server was all over our table; drinks were always full, and the food cam out in 10 minutes, maybe even less (we did both get BBQ, which helped, I'm sure). I saw one reviewer on here that said he had figured out the secret to this place (which was to sit at the bar). I have also figured out the secret to this place. ORDER THE RIBS and brisket and have 4-5 star BBQ in a "Texas" themed environment, which some people will like (for example, the country music) and some people won't, or explore some of the other options (Palomilla? Really?) and roll the dice. Absolutely worth checking out, and if you are in the mood for ribs, this place will not disappoint.

Service- I've eaten here on several occasions. Although this place is brand new, the service wasn't great at the beginning. The last couple times I went, it was great. The pretty wait staff is a big plus. Food- I've had the pork, chicken, brisket and a bunch of the sides. The meat is very tender and flavorful. It doesn't have that dry been smoked forever feel. The sauces are pretty good but not the best I've ever had. The sides I recommend are the corn cake, fries and their green beans. Bar- It's one of the only bars in plantation open late. 5 for 10 buckets have my name on them.

i went here tonight and got the two meat combo with pulled pork and beef brisket along with Mac n cheese and fries. My boyfriend had the short ribs and we got the buffalo wings for a appetizer. First, the wings were okay - crispy enough but barely any sauce on them at all. Now, the dinners, the brisket was really dry and okay in flavoring. The pork was good and moist but the house BBQ sauce was not very good. The Mac and cheese was for sure from a box and the cheese was gross. It also came with some Texas toast the was soggy and mostly bland in flavor. My boyfriend short ribs were described on the menu so tender they fall off the bone.... That is laughable. The portion size was good but the meat was chewy and just nothing really exciting. As far as the service goes, our was server was really nice and attentive. But I felt like I was at a high school party. All the servers were standing around gossiping and there was another server who was standing at the table next to us talking to her friend the whole time. Kinda unprofessional. Overall I wouldn't go back the food and service was meh. Plenty of other places with better BBQ.

I recently tried this place for the first time and really enjoyed it. I ordered the BBQ brisket sandwich and my boyfriend got the hog sandwich and we both loved our food. The coleslaw and Mac n cheese was great too. There aren't many great BBQ places around here but this is one of them!

Went with my wife and me sat outside last night. Had what was called a Carolina sampler meats where cooked right but the sauce was not a vinegar base witch is supposed to be at least from what I have had in the past it was tossed in ordinary BBQ sauce wasn't very hot either. The yams tasted like they came out of a can and the corn was mushy. Wife had the ribs Mac & cheese with the beans ribs where tight on the bone the flavor was there but could have used more cooking time Mac & cheese was good and the bean well tasted like the can again! Places like this should with a menu of this size should at least try to make more of there sides from scratch being a chef of a restaurant. I know that the little things mean a lot and cans are not the way to go hopefully they can fix this if they can it could be epic

I was a regular at hickory sticks until recently. Service has always been great. 2 employees in particular are phenomenal, those being Lynn and Katelyn. Drink prices are definitely easy on the wallet. However, after being a customer since they opened, I noticed that there was a man that kept getting drinks from the bar and distracting the bartenders from their other customers. I recently found out that man was actually one of the owners who clearly has a drinking issue. On multiple occasions I witnessed him either making the bartenders get him shots, or him just going behind the bar and pouring his own. To me that is a very unprofessional atmosphere, especially when you find out he is the owner. I have seen this man quite drunk and belligerent on numerous occasions. Stumbling over his own feet and yelling across the place if he is dissatisfied with something. Talking to the employees, I realized there was actually another person that was co-owner. Steve is great making every customer feel welcomed and makes sure that everyone is taken care of in a timely manner. He is very friendly to be around. The other male authority figure is named Barry from what I was told. He really needs to get his act together and not continuously keep getting shots from the bar. He should be making sure his customers are happy and satisfied. Possibly time for another partner in ownership? And if Barry isn't an owner, he should get a refresher course on restaurant procedures and professionalism.

I am still sitting at the table of where I just had my first meal here. this place was a very big disappointment to me. the brisket was dry and had no flavor. the at Louis ribs were very juicy and perfectly cooked but also had no taste. this place relies on their bbq sauces for all the flavor which is not what real bbq food is. this is a place I would not recommend. if you want truly good authentic bbq go to miami to a place called pride and joy that place is amazing and they know how to bbq. I will not be returning to hickory sticks again.

Great ribs smoked to perfection. Have eaten there weekly for the last 2 months. More than excellent BBQ. Had pulled pork and brisket combo last night. Should have saved the rest for lunch today but was a pig ( no pun intended) and at the whole thing. Have Monday night 1/2 price ribs, Tuesday it's 2 for 20. The best smoked wings I've ever eaten. Corn cakes really good but was a little under cooked for me. They have smoke mex dishes the frajitas are yummy. What 2.49 stellas bucket specials plus

Had lunch there. The bbq is authentic, a nice change from most of what we have had in south Florida. The staff was friendly and courteous. I had the Hog Heaven sandwich. It was too much to finish in one sitting (darn--had to take it home for dinner...) :) The prices were reasonable. Definitely worth another visit.

Finally decided to give Hickory Sticks a try. I had blackened salmon with two sides. I chose green beans on the recommendation of our waitress, and a baked potato. The salmon was very nice, the green beans were good but the potato was weird, as if it had been sitting in the warmer too long. Hubby had a pulled pork platter. He described the pulled pork as alright. I tried it, and I concur. My son's fries looked 'double dropped', very oily and overcooked. Our server Brandi was very good, very attentive and personable. She made our meal enjoyable. In conclusion our lunch was okay. Probably won't return. Might come back and try the baby back ribs my fellow Yelpers mention.

They delusion-ally call themselves the best BBQ, touting an award that's won by any BBQ that dares to open their doors. As if we don't know that? The food is so inconsistent that I hesitate to rate them. in 3 visits, it was good once, inedible another and very bland the 3rd. I tend to avoid restaurants that can't make consistent food. I need a better than 30% chance of getting my money's worth. I've had baked beans 3 times and every time they were totally different. If you don't have recipes that can be duplicated precisely, you're not a real restaurant

We found excellent ambiance. Had brisket Poboy. You can tell it's done right when it doesn't need any of their (wide variety of BTW) sauces they have. Ribs good, tad fatty but not bad. Onion rings good. Wings up to par. After reading some past reviews I was skeptical about the service, but it was lightning fast . Lea our server was very knowledgeable about all their food and drinks and checked on us regularly. All in all very nice experience. We will be going back.

Stopped at Hickory Sticks today for lunch for the first time. What a great lunch menu! There is a really good selection of platters and sandwiches priced $6.99 to $7.99. I had the brisket sandwich and salad for $6.99. It was delicious and a great portion size! I wish I worked nearby so I could enjoy lunch here all the time.

This place is awesome. I've been a couple times for dinner and sat at the bar. They have multiple mounted flat screens above the bar. The bartender is really kind and attentive. On my first visit, she was really helpful and brought all the bbq sauces out to try with the pulled pork I had ordered. The Raspberry sauce was surprisingly the best one, a little sweet and a little tangy. They also have A LOT of sides to choose from, I'm addicted to their plantains, holy moly.

All I can say is "yummy", mmmh good. Love the apps, love the smoked brisket and as a sauce queen... I tried them all. Please plan to eat unhealthy & get the fried coconut ice cream for dessert! * remember my stars are based on the category. Soo if you like bbq/comfort food this place holds it own.

Deana was the best waitress. She was on top of everything and took great care of us. We ordered a couple of apps ( queso and nacho) and it was so delish.

This place is a pretty good bar be cue joint. I usually stop here on my way to my second job. Those who know me know I love sweet tea. They have pretty good tea. The only way I stopped at this place was because I get Hilton Honor points for each dine. The service was good, and the scenery is okay. The wings were not too bad. I liked the burgers and the tacos. I have been here about 10 times since the past year. It's not one of my favorite places, but not the worst place. I would come back if given the opportunity. I like the fries and the baked potatoes. I plan to return to this place in the future.

No ribs left@7pm on rib night. The manager did comp us drinks but ended up being rude to us. Food is not good enough to come back

Ignore all 1 star ratings - they're almost always one dimensional. Their Carolina sauce is the best in my opinion. Fantastic: Beef brisket Sweetcorn bread Carolina bbq sauce Spicy slaw ...& Service! Good/Average Ribs Sausage Could improve: The pulled pork tasted just okay. I'll definitely be coming back!

Ducked in with Dennis from Universal Electrical Services to talk smartphone apps and digital and social media marketing and it was a fine time, here's why: * I had never been and I love trying new joints! * AWESOME Mahi smoked fish dip, chunky and robust! $7.95 * Excellent Service! I enjoyed a Brisket Wrap (see photo) for $6.95 and it was quite tasty and filling, with collard greens on the side. The collard greens had some sort of sweet taste to it that didn't sit well with me. $2.39 for a large lemonade is too much to charge especially when it was a powdered product, in my opinion. Even though they hammered us with free refills. Add a bunch of FRESH lemons and my opinion changes. BAM! The decor is a mix and match hodge podge of confused and not very comfortable stuff, but that is forgivable. Cabeza OUT!

I truly would like to give this place a better review but I wouldn't feel right. The ambiance was great and the decor was charming. The servers were friendly and although I didn't speak to the manager myself I heard how well he dealt with an un satisfied diner. With that being said the food lacked flavor and seasoning. The loaded fries left their load in kitchen. The macaroni and cheese tasted like boxed Mac n cheese with powder cheese, my husband compared the brisket to spam and after swapping his Mac out for green beans he ended up leaving them untouched on the table with the rest of the items to be discarded. I would not suggest this spot but I would not stop someone from going. This place has great potential after all the portions were big, the meat tender and the setting was nice.

Just had dinner at this place for the first time though I have been in the area for just over a year. WOW!!! This BBQ/Tex Mex joint nails it! My meal and food were so good I felt compelled to put this review up immediately and I rarely if ever do that with my posts on here. Let's get started. The food was definitely fresh and definitely home made. That speaks volumes, especially for BBQ in South Florida. I started it off with their potato skins topped with their pulled pork. Woah these were awesome. In fact, these are not your freezer potato skins either. These were very large, plentifully filled with all the deliciousness that should go into skins and their home made pulled pork on top with their own unique bbq sauce was awesome. I was very impressed. I ordered the baby back ribs platter, my fiance' ordered the Baja chicken. Both meats were cooked to perfection. The bbq baby rack ribs here were EXCELLENT!! The best actually I feel I have had in about a six year time period living in the South Florida area. The ribs were fall off the bone and the pink ring on them bad boys was definitely there. You know your ribs are cooked to perfection when you see this. This type of bbq perfection is rarely if ever seen here in South Florida, so kudos to Hickory Sticks for getting to that level. The Baja chicken that my fiance' got was great as well. Grilled to juicy perfection and a nice size portion to atop their home made yellow rice with this delicious spicy tex mex type of sauce on the chicken, really nicely done. The black beans were definitely home made as well, and I thought were excellently prepared. Speaking of sides, the sides I got for my BBQ baby back ribs were the corn cake and the bbq baked beans. Both sides you can't miss. In fact, the bbq baked beans were awesome with a hint of smoke, sweet, and spice which made it a very tasty side for beans, they were definitely done right in my opinion and again home made. The corn cake was really good too, a bit maybe undercooked but it was really delicious still. There was a hint of sweet after the first few bites, and definitely unique, I have not had something like that in South FL. I had only their sweet tea which tasted too good to be a brand, so that was another huge plus. Great BBQ with awesome sweet tea, what a treat. There was definitely a full bar and they claim to make their own/have their own version of moon shine. They had plenty of drink specials as well and a good selection of beers. I felt like the food was priced just right for it being in South FL, but what you get was definitely worth the price in then some. Hickory Sticks is location is somewhat disappointing being that it is just before university off of Sunrise Blvd. tucked away in this little strip mall. However, if you are approaching University from the West on Sunrise, it is just before University. I highly recommend this place, and their BBQ and food was awesome. I hope to come back here soon and try some other items on their menu as I am sure they are really good too. Definitely come check this place out for your BBQ/Tex Mex hankering, this place is a gem of a BBQ/Tex Mex place I feel like in the Plantation, FL. area. I just can't believe I waited so long.

So this was my first time eating here and it was really good i only gave it 4 stars because i always do a place multiple times before i give it 5 for consistency. The service was fast the staff attentive and polite. The prices were very reasonable and the portions were just right i i had the Carolina platter and my wife had the wings and ribs platter, then we finished it off with pecan pie. And two drinks and the bill was only $39.00 its a must try

I've heard this place has excellent bbq, so I decided to give it a try. I work the night shift so I usually pick up dinner on my way in to work. Placed my order over the phone and was told it would be ready in ten minutes. Arrive 20 minutes later and find out the hostess forgot to place my order! Not having enough time to wait or go somewhere else, I head to work, with no dinner! I called the restaurant to speak to a manager. At this point, there really isn't anything he can do, but I think he should be aware. Well apparently Barry was "too busy" to take my call. Too many other places out there with good food AND good service!

This was the worst restaurant I have been too. They confused the order and did not give us the correct appetizer and then proceeded to give us cold ribs and baked potatoes. Cannot believe the manager did not have the decency to come and speak to us. Horrible!

I was looking for a good BBQ place in the neighborhood, so I turned to YELP! to see what was in the area. I had passed Hickory Sticks several times while driving around, so I decided to check them out. This appeared to be a Texas style BBQ joint. We were greeted by country music played loud enough for you to take notice, but not loud enough to drown out conversation. Spacious interior with many booths, great bar area, and laid back, covered patio area (which is where we decided to eat). The servers were very upbeat and friendly and were able to provide great suggestions. There was ice-cold beer on tap, with a really good variety of micro-brews and bar staples. It took me a while to decide what to get because everything on the menu looked so good. I finally decided on the Hickory Sticks platter; beef brisket, pork and sausage, along with the corn cake and collard greens (to try to be healthy). My aunt ordered the baby back ribs with the loaded baked potato and veggies. Everything tasted like good old home made BBQ. I was especially pleased with the greens. They were refreshing and were a perfect compliment to the BBQ sauce and the corn cake. I was very pleased with the dervice the food and the prices. I had a couple drinks and enjoyed the patio life, with good food, music and company. I'll defnitely be passing through soon, probably for Happy Hour.

This is an OK place that I wouldn't be running back to. The place is OK inside - not a special atmosphere, but pretty standard for a BBQ place. It's got a lot of Texas stuff. It's a nice little spot. The service was OK - our waitress was timid and quiet and got a few things wrong, and things were a little slow considering especially how empty this place was (we came at an off time). We started with potato skins - which didn't have bacon on top. We thought maybe they put the bacon under the cheese or something weird, but after like 2 bites, realized they just didn't have bacon. They were just normal potato skins lacking bacon, nothing bad, nothing special. We tried pulled pork and brisket and neither impressed. The pulled pork was flavorless and too fatty and needed a lot of sauce to make it OK. They give you the house sauce on the table, but other sauces are given to you in small plastic cups. The sauce isn't warmed. The brisket had good pieces and bad pieces. Some pieces too dry, some too fatty, and some just right. It wasn't incredibly well seasoned. Nothing I'd come back for. OK food, OK service. Nothing special.

I come here every so often, and I get the same thing every time. Hog Heaven, you gotta try it. Pulled pork sandwich with smoked sausage and coleslaw. It's so good, perfectly matched. Great beer choices to go along with it. It's never packed so seating is never an issue which is great.

Loved it and I live in Texas!!!! The BB Ribs very tender very tasty. Pulled pork tender extremely good and chicken right on. Green beans awesome, sweet potatoe fries real thick cut and crispy. The 5 different sauces worth the trip alone. Too it off with homemade fried ice cream balls, awesome!!!

I have eaten here a few times and I must say the BBQ is very mediocre. Im a huge fan of great bbq and this place has disappointing twice. The sauces are just ok. The ribs are dry, no corn bread and the service is so so. To many other good bbq places around to go to for me to head back here

I have been here 4 times now and I figured out the secret. Head straight to the bar area and let Arianna help you. She is always friendly, and will remember your name and your drink. Kind of a rarity these days. I've had a chance to sample more of the food too. The Mahi dip was phenomenal and all of the BBQ items are tasty. Today when I walked in, the hostess was 1/2 asleep at the front podium, so I told her to wake up as I breezed past. She never lifted her elbows, supporting her air head once. Like I said, I figured out the secret!

So happy that Yelp got us to this place! It's always so hard to find the businesses in Florida for all the beautiful foilage...however, we went today for lunch and were Thrilled!! The lunch was so delicious, the decor was lovely, the country music hit the spot just right, the bar looks like a fun place to have a few drinks (plan to do this before we leave to return home from vacay). I would highly recommend this restaurant!! The smell grabs you as soon as you walk up to the door....oh, and there's a lovely looking outdoor patio! Was all good :)
