Gave this place a second try. Isn't too bad. The hot and sour soup is delicious.

I don't know why this place only has 2 stars...My family had a great experience here today! I do have to admit. When I visited a year ago, everything was pretty dissapointing, but they have improved a lot. We ordered the Kalbi Wraps (which kind of looked like burritos), the lettuce wraps, Chow fun, and the Emperor Seafood Soup. I have to say my favorite dish out of all of those had to be the Emperor Seafood Soup. It was beautifully displayed, and tasted great too! Our server was pretty awesome too. She payed attention to all the small details, which even made the experience more great. Although, she seemed to not know anything about Asian cuisine or Asian culture at all...She thought it was strange that we wanted rice as a side dish?? The atmosphere was fancy, yet tacky. Michael Jackson music + Chinese restaurant?? Where's the Amei or Zhou Jailun?

This restaurant used to be one of my favorite places to eat. The atmosphere is upscale (especially compared to other asian restaurants in town). I have always ordered the crispy honey chicken lunch special. The egg roll was outstanding and the dipping sauce took it over the top. Meals have always been outstanding. Today, the first negative thing I noticed was the dank, mildew smell of the steamy cloths they present to you before the meal. It was off-putting to me and set the wrong tone. The chicken was nearly as dry as beef jerky. Not pleasant. For some reason, they have begun serving the chicken on top of crispy rice noodles. The noodles cling to the chicken pieces and translates to a rather prickly feeling in the mouth. The rangoon seemed a bit "old" and flat. The waitress came to the table and explained that our long wait was due to the fact that two of the three meals were prepared, but was waiting for the third lunch to be completed and that she was on her way to check on them. My guess is that my lunch sat around a while. I think somebody in the kitchen dropped the ball. The staff was friendly and the facility appeared neat and clean -- a really quite pleasant atmosphere. I'll probably give them another try, but if my next experience turns out to be like today's, it will be my last visit.

Came here for a friend's birthday dinner on a Wednesday night. Several of my friends have come here before a number of times and have never complained about it. Also, considering a friend decided to have a birthday here..I figured it can't be all bad. Browsing the menu, it can easily be seen the restaurant focuses on Chinese and Japanese cuisine. I ordered a chicken dish (can't remember the name but I think it's Jum Bae) that had a hoisin based sauced sauteed with mixed vegetables and small bowl of brown rice (an extra charge). Along with my entree came a choice of soup - I ordered the house egg white soup (similar to an egg drop soup but with egg whites and had some vegetables and came with a bowl of fried noodles). My entree was decent (nothing to rave about but nothing bad either) with a portion enough to have some as leftovers. Some side notes about friends' food orders: - the seaweed salad is served in a small martini glass (fancy looking =P) - a friend complained the normal egg drop soup wasn't that great - fried calamari was pretty good and came with a mayo based sauce and some type of salsa Overall, the decor was very nice (gives off that nice upscale dining feel) while the food was average. I do appreciate healthier alternatives such as the brown rice (similar to what I've had at Pei Wei) option and the house egg white soup.

Beautiful interior and decor. Very classy. Nice bar. I never really believed in gourmet Chinese food but this place changed my mind. Everything we ordered was great. I especially liked the Kalbi wrap and calamari apps. The ground pork noodle dish was my favorite. It's been open for less than a month and it was nicely busy. Highly recommend to people who enjoy eating quality food in a beautiful setting.

As a traveler I look to locals on Yelp to give me tips on local eats. I read the reviews on this place and as I was in the mood for Chinese I decided to try it. So let the adventure begin: It's easy to access and is very well decorated. The order I was placing was for to go. So the person at the register handed me the menu and gave the 411 on Entrée as it includes choice of rice and soup. So I settled in to check out the options. I settled on: App - Panko Crispy Tuna which comes from the Sushi bar and is tuna coated in Panko flakes and seared. It is then sliced very thin and served with cellophane noodles, ginger, wasabi and a nicely done pico Asian Style. It's nicely done and a change from normal. Sadly the guy at the register has no clue what it was when I asked but a server stepped in and saved his bacon. Entree - Jam Pao Chicken with egg drop soup and brown rice. A nice dish not over powering but a good flavor and nicely done. Soup is good but I have had better and brown rice is brown rice. Only draw back is the veggies needed to be a bit more uniform in size. Otherwise it was a good choice. So I give it a four star and find it not as bad as others stated. It is a bit pricy but with all the items you get just on the Entree alone it is a good eats place.

Pensacola is not exactly a food Mecca so everything is relative. But I'm giving it 4 stars because overall it's pretty good. I'm not crazy about their sushi, I haven't loved the pork dishes, and the honey chicken is unremarkable. However, most everything I've eaten there was on par or better than most any restaurant around. The pork egg rolls are a little greasy but very, very good. The egg white soup is so good I have considered just having that for dinner. Much better than the egg drop soup. Their fried rice is sticky, and wonderfully addicting. Mongolian beef is as it should be- veggie ladened, tasty, smokey, and served over crispy rice noodles. The House Snapper is great. Breaded, boneless, in a brown sweet and sour sauce, and much more than I can eat. The place has an upscale feel, the service has always been excellent, and the plating presentation is beautiful. Some of the dishes are hit or miss, but I've had more hits than misses.

This place reminded me a lot of PF Changs. I ate here after finding myself with a couple hours between appointments near this restaurant and needing to get lunch, it was about 1:30pm on a Monday and the place was almost deserted. There were 3 others in the restaurant eating there. My waiter was friendly and offered suggestions when he found out it was my first time there - but my waiter also spilled a pitcher of iced tea all over my table and my food, and about 30 minutes after he wiped that mess off and came back to refill my glass, he then proceeded to set down a full pitcher of iced tea and leave it on my table for 10 minutes while he went to take a To-Go order from someone without refilling my glass first. I have a small appetite, so I just had the Kalbi roll and the fried beef dumplings. The Kalbi roll was very good, I would order it again. The beef dumplings I would pass on, there are probably better things on the menu. I would go back to try other food options again, but I may wear my raincoat next time if my waiter comes back around with a pitcher again.

Service is inconsistent but food is worth coming back for. Get better servers and it would be 5 stars.

I've always wanted to try this place, and my bf and I decided to come here for an early dinner. We came about 4:30, and the place was absolutely empty. We were the only table in the whole restaurant for our entire meal, although I found it weird that the staff's friends kept coming in to socialize. We started off with the egg drop soup, which was pretty good. I ordered the Kung Pao Beef, and my bf ordered the Ma Po Tofu. My dish was good, but it was supposed to be spicy and it definitely was not. My bf really liked his Ma Po Tofu, and it was cool that they served it over a small flaming pot. Overall, the food was good, but the servers really dampened our experience. One lady was vacuuming loudly near our table, and the staff's friends were loudly talking at the bar. It was an ok first time here, but I don't think I'd come back.

I also don't know why this place is so poorly reviewed on Yelp. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. The decor is modern and attractive, and the service is very friendly and helpful. The hot and sour soup is outstanding, and I'll come just for that. Entrees such as the Shark Fin chicken and honey chicken (fried bite-size pieces tossed in various Asian sauces) are fine but unremarkable, which merits a four- and not a five-star rating.

  • Laurie A.

The sushi is okay, but the old, white dude working behind the bar is slow and unprofessional...and a little negative. Sat at a table last time, and the service was WAY better. Do not sit at the bar, if the older guy is working it. It took him over 5 minutes to bring me a glass of water, then explained that I picked the busiest time of the day to come in...BTW, there were three cars in the parking lot and one other person at the bar...and they were waiting for friends. Eventually I got my water, he took my order, and I ate my dinner....and even tipped decently (wished I hadn't later). Overall, only gave two stars because of poor service and attitude and so-so sushi. But if you're looking for atmosphere, this place has it...

The wait is very long and the sushi rice is cold and hard. Go to Vietnam restaurant will be a better choice.

Eh. Not that great. We went on Sunday at 2pm and were the only people in the entire place. The restaurant's design was decently modern (but NO booths), and it certainly seemed clean, which for Pensacola Chinese restaurants is a big plus. The service was fine (if a little overbearing -- but beats the alternative), but the problem was the food. The other guy hit the nail on the head with it being at the quality of a 1980's Chinese restaurant. It just was very saucy and not very flavorful, and the quality of the beef and mushrooms I had was suspect. Also, they have an item called "Krab Cheese Rangoon." Really -- Krab? A little scary. As much as I'd love to have a good Chinese restaurant in town, I think this place won't make it. They need to amp up the food and fast.

First off, Pensacola has a large amount of Oriental Restaurant's which are 99% buffet. Need I say more? Anyhow, I was excited to hear that a real sit-down and order Chinese restauarant had come to Pensacola. We walked in for dinner on a Thursday and were pleasantly surprised how modern and nice it was inside; however, our excitement ended there. The food came out pretty fast, almost too fast. My food was cold, my wifes was hot. It was the blandest Chinese food I have ever had. We were quite disappointed to say the least. I have had way better buffet food at half the price. We will not go back.

  • Jennifer H.

Not Fine Dining by any means! The atmosphere was nice but the food was no better than that at the local chinese take-out. The dishes all seemed to be covered in sauces that were too sweet! The fried rice was bland... almost tasted like frozen bagged fried rice, complete with the typical peas and carrots. The staff were pleasant, but not trained for fine dining... a good example: when asked if we'd like our left overs (and there were plenty) boxed, instead of taking the plates to the back, we were given boxes and sat there slopping the saucey dishes into the boxes in our nice clothes... just overall disappointing... nothing fine dining but the prices.

This place is very pf chang wanna be restaurant. Because it is very pf chang-ish, i thought the food would be also but the food was just alright... food is just typical small town chinese food. Very different than the restaurant decor, which i believe they were going for that high class chinese restaurant theme.

Nice interior, very pricey, service ok. Food is just regular Chinese food pay attention at the bill, they tax everything individual and then charge tax again at the total even if only one person dine in. The menu is bad nothing really call my attention .

I love this place! I don't know what's wrong with the other individuals/patrons because this restaurant is beautiful, clean, very well decorated and the menu and quality of food is amazing. The sushi is great (had the tempura one with bacon, cream cheese and filet mignon/steak in it), lemon-basil martini(YUM!!), honey chicken and raspberry cheesecake(yum and yum-mer) all for $37 for my husband and myself-he had some delicious pork dish. The service was great as well.

Interior was very nice, but it was busy so we ate outside on the concrete patio with wireframe furniture. I felt that despite the attractive interior, the quality of the food was what I would expect from a 1980's Chinese restaurant. I ordered the sweet n sour chicken and what arrived was a bowl of overly battered (tempura) chicken with a small side dish of the neon red sweet n sour sauce we all remember from early childhoold. I poured it on and it wasn't nearly enough to cover the chicken (the portion of chicken was generous) so I asked them to take it back and mix in as much sauce as was required. It came back like a soup. Of the parts not soaking in sauce, it still wasn't very flavorful. My brother had the Mongolian beef, which he liked, but I wasn't too happy with, finding it a little soggy. My brother's wife had the honey shrimp, which although a little too neon pink, tasted good. The waitress was friendly and attentive. I think the restaurant is probably good by Pensacola standards, but don't go expecting PF Chang's. Suggestions for the chefs: - Don't use such heavy dyes in your sauces - Put a little more tang in your sweet n sour sauce, batter the chicken a little lighter, and mix in the sauce prior to delivery to customer to ensure there's enough - Crisp up the Mongolian beef and put in more beef (there was way too much veg relative to meat)

The setting is great for a Chinese restaurant. The portions are too small though.

A great alternative to all the Chinese buffets out there. The Shark Fin menu mixes both traditional favorites with innovative hosue specialties. The place was hopping the night we were there and we all enjoyed our dinners. The atmosphere and decor is also very nice. I realized it will be a good place for a relaxed business lunch. I will be back and will tell my friends.

This is our favorite for Asian food in Pensacola. As several other reviewers have mentioned, there is a real dearth of decent Chinese food in P'cola, and we were so exited to discover a place we enjoy. We go here more than any other restaurant (of any type) in Pensacola. ATMOSPHERE: The interior is upscale, and has been evolving since they first opened two years ago. They have added booths, a private room, and nice a little sushi bar. Overall, they have done a very nice job of keeping the atmosphere modern and comfortable, without resorting to the trite decor usually seen in Chinese restaurants. BIG PLUS: The bathrooms are clean, large, and have always been well stocked. FOOD: Excellent. Despite what other reviewers have written, we have never had a bad meal here. Yes, some of the sauces are sweet, and some of the flavor profiles are (beautifully) subtle, especially if you are used to the MSG -riddled fare at other local Asian establishments. That being said, here are a few of our favorites: Hot & sour soup - perfectly balanced, a hint of smokiness, just spicy enough to earn its name. Sushi - we have enjoyed all the rolls we have tried since they brought in the sushi bar (this a sister restaurant to Ichiban right up the road), the Las Vegas is nice little fried roll appetizer if you are not a raw fish person. Bok choy and shiitakes in garlic sauce - we love bok choy, and this simple preparation is wonderful. Beef chow fun - I get this almost every time I go, offered with other proteins, but for me the beef is excellent. Perfect wide rice noodles (not too thick or gummy), beautiful sauce, happiness in a bowl. They also have kids items, my daughter asks for their chicken fingers at least twice a week - real chicken breast tenderloin, lightly battered and fried, and garnished as beautifully as any adult dish. SERVICE: they have several very good waiters, Jeny took great care of us when we visited for their two year anniversary last week (they gave every diner a pair of beautiful complimentary chopsticks to take home in honor of the event). As a former waiter myself, I am aware how hard it is to find good servers in this town, but they seem to have settled into a good crew that knows the menu and is very helpful. PRICES: Very reasonable. We usually spend less than $30 (before tip) for two adults and a child, unless we indulge in an adult beverage or two. We have paid more than twice that for many meals we enjoyed less than half as much around town. So, skip the plethora of junk-food buffets and go to Shark Fin.

We had a great meal. Sushi was very fresh and Sweet chicken plentiful. The non-fried rolls (I think they are called Vietnamese Rolls??) are SO GOOD!! Staff was friendly and nice atmosphere.

We visited Shark Fin several times and typically had decent food but the service was never consistent. After one terrible service we will never eat at this establishment again. We ordered three courses, including our drinks, which included egg rolls, soup, and our entrees and they were delivered to us one right after the other. Had no time to enjoy, let alone begin to taste each course before the next item came. By the time we were seated at our table to the time we left the restaurant (very frustrated and extremely disappointed), was only a 20-25 minute timeframe. Timing is everything, especially when it comes to food.

This place has the best ever hot and sour soup. I mean the best. Unfortunately this time, our server, Kim, was the worst server I've ever encountered here. We ordered our beers and the hot n sour shortly after being seated outside. It was a nice night, but that's another mistake I'll never make at Shark Fin again - don't ask to sit outside. After we got our beers, we didn't see her again for 35 minutes. The hostess brought out the soup without serving bowls. We were so hungry that after waiting 5 min we started passing the large bowl back and forth, each taking a few bites. That soup is sooooo good, it was totally worth it, despite getting ditched by the server. After the soup, we shoulda grabbed the check but I ordered two sushi rolls and a couple quail eggs. Not good. Rolls took forever and the fish tasted like it had been thawed from frozen, quail eggs too. Shame to eat frozen fish raw in Pensacola - usually a good fish town. Annoying moment: server telling us at the end of our meal that she was disappointed that we only drank one beer each. If the service hadn't been so bad, we would have stayed longer!

The first time I went to shark fin I was so disappointed. I went at lunch time and they took a long time to get the food and the ticket. I also thought that the food was ok. I went there recently because they've told me that it is a lot better and my friends were right! I loved it. I tried the champong I'm not sure if I'm spelling it right (it's a spicy seafood soup) but it was the best. If you like spicy food you will love it. I also loved my server super nice. His name is kristopher so if you go there ask for him. He's awesome.

New favorite. We have been 3-4 times in the past two months as our family came into town. Cup of Wonton Soup is great. My wife like the salmon and broccoli while I am a little old school with Moo Goo Gai Pan. Service has been touch and go as they do not always seem staffed for the big swings in people showing up. Otherwise I have been happy with it.

Excellent atmosphere Excellent service Excellent sushi Priced well Will be returning for sure. I have delayed trying this restaurant because of some of the reviews. I definitely give this place 5 stars it deserves nothing less.

My boyfriend and I eat here all the time, we normally get great service and great food. I love the shrimp tempura fashion roll, so good! The reason for 4 stars instead of five is I think they should have more sushi rolls to offer but other than that what they have is great. Also the egg White House soup is to die for!!!

  • Alex R.

This is my favorite restaurant! I have yet to have a sushi roll I didn't love. The staff is always friendly and inviting. I recommend the house soup, the takoyaki and the Pensacola paradise roll. When in doubt, ask the staff their recomendations. I tried the emperors soup bowl once and split it with my boyfriend on a cold day. Perfect! I love sitting outside because I usually work indoors all day. If it's raining they have porch covers, if it's cold they have heaters and flame lamps. There is a beautiful view of the moon and on friday nights around 9 when Sam's fun city shuts down you can see the fireworks! Perfect date night. If outside isn't your thing, the inside is very modern asian chic. Even the restrooms are beautiful.

Overall great place to eat! Nice decor and atmosphere. Sushi was delicious! Staff was so helpful and attentive. We had a couple stir fry dishes.. Flavors were great. We made the drive from Pensacola beach to this place and well worth it! A must try if your in the mood for Asian or sushi.

First time visiting this restaurant. Loved it. We tried all the soups. Like all but the mushroom one. I tried the stirred friend rice w/ shrimp & chicken & their California sushi roll. Um...scrumptious! I also tried their fruity monitor. It will knock you on your honey so watch out. Thing was so good. Place was clean & neat. Very quiet & pleasant environment. Ask for Christian as your waiter he is great. Excellent service. I even was able to chat with management. It's a bit pricy, but their a lot of good quality food.

This restaurant totally threw me for a loop. It looks great inside and has excellent decor. But the food was awful! My chicken dish had 3 pieces of chicken in it. It was a huge plate of peppers, onions and 3 slivers of chicken. My mom's meal was cold and the sauce had congealed. The egg drop soup was fine. No thanks to the hot towels too after watching a few employees sitting around a table right next to us rolling them up and placing them on the table. I really was bummed that the food quality didn't match the restaurants look. I won't be back.

Best Chinese restaurant in town. While I do take out all of the time, this isn't your typical chimes takeout place. If you like PF Changs, you'll love Shark Fin. I don't enjoy PF Changs anymore since I've gotten so used to Shark Fin. The fried rice is the reason. Not comparable. My favorite foods are fried rice with chicken and Mongolian beef (not at the same time). And the prices aren't bad. You can't beat the lunch menu. You can get fried rice with beef or chicken (which is enough for 2), cup of soup, egg roll and crab Rangoon for $9.

  • Alex C.

This is by far the worst food I've ever had in a restaurant. Not only is it ridiculously bland, but the portion sizes are stupidly small and only look plentiful because they pack any dish with large amounts of garnish or vegetables instead of meat. Super stingy, never coming back, and highly DO NOT recommend.

Best hot & sour soup I've ever had! The shark fin chicken is good too! Lunch specials are graciously portioned & reasonably priced.

This place has got to be one of the best Asian restaurants around Pensacola! Hey! Ichiban is the best, and Shark Fin is her sister! The food and atmosphere is great! It is a great place to go for delicious dinner!

I have eaten here several times and always enjoy my visit. They have a dish called Sunflower something that is loaded with shrimp, calamari, scallops, etc that was to die for. My wife had the Mogolian Beef, which was pretty good, too. We also had some Cowboy sushie and egg drop soup-both were excellent. The portions were generous. I can't wait to go there again.

I might have given this a 3 if the entrees hadn't failed so badly. We've gone for lunch twice. The first time was good enough to warrant a second visit, but the second visit was really bad. The cucumber salad, both soups that we tried, and sushi (the yellow tail roll, specifically) were pretty good. The three entrees I tried (pepper steak, moo goo gai pan, and shark fin chicken) were all incredibly bland, poorly cooked, and just not appetizing. Service was good, and the place is very nice looking.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
