Great Margaritas! Restaurant offers chips and salsa & bean dip (with refills!) to clients, and has a nice varied menu. Had the fish tacos and was not disappointed as they were really good and fish was not overcooked. They came wrapped in foil so it kepted them warm. Good portions. Margaritas were really good and not over sweet (like they often are)

So, my fiancé just highly impressed me! He just went off on a manager at this nasty Mexican restaurant. Literally killed a cockroach directly behind my shoulder. Said, "Dont move!" (Knows I'm deathly afraid of bugs) killing a nasty cockroach while we are sitting there trying to eat! I'm appalled. Both of us being in restaurant management, yes we are critical but how do you not even do a table visit to check on the guests in your restaurant!!!!! Wow! Never going back.

Rio Bravo was a bit of a disappointment, but had a few redeeming features. I ordered the Parilla Chicken. The chicken had a nice sauce but was a little dry. Overall good flavor. My wife ordered the Papacito Burrito. This sorely lacked seasoning. It was also poorly described in the menu. What you think should be in the burrito was on the side, and what you think should be on the side was in the burrito. Based on that dish this place would be a two-star. There were two things that made us bump up the rating to a three, starting with the chips and salsa. The salsa was great and they also served it with a black bean dip. They also do two for one drinks. We had two margaritas for $4.75 and two giant draft beers for $6.00. A great value!

Under new management. Quality of the food has taken a nose dive. No flavor and overcooked do not make a good couple. Could barely understand our server but she was pleasant to have. This place could be better if the entire kitchen staff were replaced. Used to be our go to for Mexican but we are now in the search yet again. Pass the salt and pepper please...

No diversity I order a combo meal of taco, enchilada, and borrito. What I got was three tortillas with beef and a very watered down sauce. The waitress had to be corrected on several things when ordering that we didn't even bother to to bring the food to her attention we just finished paid and added it to our "never again" list

Really surprised to find carne asada right on the lunch menu in a Pensacola Mexican restaurant after all the bad Mexican food we have found here (La Hacienda). Food is flavorful, plentiful and service is friendly and top notch. Enjoyable experience

I've eaten food from Rio Bravo about 8-10 times (dine in and carry out) over the past 2 years. Quality / Service and order accuracy has really tubed in the past 6 months. Tonight they were busy but I order two Taco's el Carbon and chips/salsa to go. Waited about 15 minutes for the food (I no problem with that). In that time I saw the bartender give incorrect orders to two bar patrons (foreshadowing). I got my order and he assured me it was all there. Of course when I got home there is no rice, no churro soup, and oh the Tacos are hard shell with no onions / cilantro... AWESOME (sarcasm)... And the hard shells are ice cold and the meat has now cooled considerably because of it. Of course I could have driven 10-12 minutes there, tried to get the order fixed (5-10 minutes, then driven 10-12 minutes back. But in the end we ate the mediocre food (cheese dip was good, but heck it's not rocket science) and will do what most should do - stop going to Rio Bravo. Vallarta (another mexican restaurant 10 minutes down the road) is a much better option so I'll drive a little further there next time. Vaya con Dios, Rio Bravo. I hope your employees are lobbying for $15/hr because you'll fold in a week.

This place is my back up when Vallartas is busy or closed. Their food is good for the price point and the proportions are of good size as well.

You'll be pleasantly surprised at Rio Bravo. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is fine and the food and portion sizes are great (I had a combo meal). Another reviewer mentioned that two salsas are served, but only one was served at my table. They're accommodating too. I asked for my meal to be extra spicy and boy did they oblige. Just remember, hot peppers always burn twice! The hostess at the door could have been a little more chipper to invite me back as I was leaving, but that won't keep me away. I recommend this restaurant.

Damn. Seriously. Just damn. You will crave this food for days after you eat here. Everything is incredibly flavorful and delicious. I've had Mexican rice and beans thousands of times, but none as good as these. The ground meat has a great texture and taste, and isn't greasy. With the obligatory and complimentary chips come two varieties of salsa. One is the ordinary red salsa, which is spicy, but not "spicy hot"...just full of tomato, cilantro, garlic, and lime or lemon flavors. The *other* salsa, though...oh, man. It's some kind of smoky, dark, tangy concoction that defies precise description. We were in a hurry today, so I didn't really ask for details, but suffice it to say that the dark salsa is not to be missed. I saw some beer specials posted, such as two-for-one 32-oz. draft beers for $5.50, which is a deal. The margarita specials were ignored, since the place doesn't serve alcohol and the margarita are likely some sort of malted crap. I will enthusiastically return to Rio Bravo, and soon. Barring the lack of real margaritas, there is no reason *not* to go there and eat some yummy vittles.

I ordered the Caesar Mex salad from their menu with grilled chicken. A person from the kitchen came out to tell me he didn't know why the salad was even on the menu... they don't stock the majority of the needed ingredients. So I asked for a regular taco salad with ranch dressing - no sour cream, no guacamole. The waitress brought a bottle of guacamole/ranch dressing -- they don't have regular ranch dressing. The grilled chicken tasted good, but there was very little lettuce and tomato. When the bill came, the waitress charged us for the Caesar Mex salad, that they don't make. She said the regular taco salad cost more... looking at the menu on the web, I see the regular taco salad is priced lower than the salad they don't make. What a rip off!

I absolutely love this place! Best Mexican restaurant by far in Cantonment! The chorizo cheese dip is to die for! I always look forward to coming back here and always bring family and friends with me. We all love it!

This place was surprisingly good considering I'm a spoiled southern Californian who was practically raised on Mexican food. Service was quick, chips and salsa were good, the whole menu looked appetizing and the margaritas were strong. They've got $1 small margaritas on Tuesday nights, too! Yay good Mexican food in pensacola!

This makes me really, really sad. Up until now I have loved this restaurant, and most especially their Pork "El Bravo." I've loved the Pork "El Bravo" so much I have not been able to order anything else. It was amazing! Unfortunately something has gone horribly wrong. On Saturday, instead of my usual chunks and shredded pork tossed with caramelized diced onions, peppers, chilies, tomatoes, and spices, I sat there looking at a pile of what resembled a pasty goo of bbq pulled pork. Stirred into it were rather large pieces of completely inedible, hard, dried chopped red chilies. And instead of sizzling fajitas, my husband and son received a mound of mostly onions 'steaming' on a less than hot platter. The very nice waitress asked if I wanted to speak to the manager. We waited and waited. When he finally arrived I asked if he was cooking and he said no. Then I expressed my disappointment about the pork. He said I must have ordered the carnitas before because the pork was always cooked like this. I attempted to explain how I always get the El Bravo pork and he insisted I had ordered something else. Then his phone rang. He answered it and walked off, then he stood by the bar laughing with employees. He never came back. I guess I can see what the problem is, poor management. It makes me sad, but we won't be back.

Rio bravo is our go to for Mexican because of occasional deals and food consistency! I agree with others that the service is spotty depending on who you get, but for your typical TexMex selection, these folks always get it right. Chips are served with yummy salsa and a black bean dip (complimentary). And this might sound weird, but they have that great crushed ice like at Sonic, which is kind of awesome. I've gotten all sorts of things off the menu from tamales to fish tacos to fajitas and am always pleased. Recommended!

The whole time we've lived in Pensacola I've complained about theMexican food choices here. It figures that we'd stumble upon this amazingly yummy food five days before we move out of the area. If you're looking for Mexican food that tastes like you expect it to give this place a try. Also, they bring salsa AND bean dip to the table when you sit down. Yum!

Tea glass empty, waitress sitting at the bar texting, manager too busy reading his mail to notice or care. I don't think it to much to ask when eating over salted spicy food to get a tea refill. Maybe I should have added her to my contact list and Texted my request!

This Mexican restaurant might actually be on par with Cactus Flower. It's great! This might be the only decent Tex-Mex restaurant on the Northeast side of town. Of course, when you enter, they will start you off with the very typical chips and salsa. They have two types of salsa ~ the generic kind, and then then they have the type of salsa where only the "spicy experts" can handle. It was definitely different from the salsa I am used to eating, but boy, was it gooood! My family didn't order much, because our friends invited us right AFTER we had dinner. So we just ordered some light after dinner snacks, like the guacamole and some kind of other dip that I don't remember the name to right now. Even though we didn't have a full meal there, we will definitely return here when the Mexican hunger pangs strike again.

Pensacola needs some SERIOUS help on Mexican food. This may just be it. Our food was great .Service was on par to our expectations. Atmosphere is such that you can stay long enough for a drink if you'd like, but it's not quite as mush of a 'restaurant' as it is a "taqueria' atmosphere. Which is fine for us (it IS a strip center, after all). They also have a quaint outdoor area which, given it's a strip center, there's not much to look at, but it can be refreshing to get outside. We've been back twice and have not been let down. Having lived in SoCAl and TX for most of my life, and having eaten my share of good and bad, I have to say that I was extremely disappointed when I was told La Hacienda was the best. REALLY? Ya'll need to get out and eat some real Mexican food. Cactus flower is at least 5 times better than "La Ha", even if it is major-Americanized (get the soup). I can't comment on Rio Bravo's drinks, as we've not had an evening to try them yet. But in my opinion, Rio Bravo is up there on the top 5 Mexican places to eat around these hair parts.

Really good food. Their rio bravo dip was awesome. Salsa super spicy but good and Yummy margaritas! Only reason why I'm givin 4 stars was the service. It wasn't terrible but he wasn't coming to check our chips and salsa which was running out fast and there were dishes kinda stacking up. I'd definitely come again though!

I normally do not go into Mexican restaurants in strip malls. . . I dunno why, but strip mall food is usually gross. But we were pretty desperate after coming from Milton and La Hacienda was closed ( which is usually crap, but I digress ) and then the other Mexican Restaurant in Pace was just as closed, how weird, and somehow my dad missed going down Davis to the one on Olive, but we hit this one and decided to try it out. Good choice. I will say the portions seemed just a touch small, but overall, not bad, still five stars. Half of that is for making a decent freaking margarita. I've usually just given up on those, most places use a mixer. Mixers are crap, kids, it's basically koolaid. A margarita should be a limeade sort of drink cut with triple sec, then cut with tequila. And this was exactly that. Not neon green, but a pleasant green that looked like it actually had once come from a lime. They even used a decent tequila, and I'm a tequila snob! Could've used some proper salt around the rim, but I'm not going to really complain about the small things. I had the flautas myself, and they were a touch small, but the rice and beans were so good, I just kind of ignored that. The pico de gallo and guacamole came in these adorable little mini taco shell bowls, and I thought that was a really nice touch. Speaking of the guacamole, we ordered a side app of that for our chips, and it was really good guacamole. Lime, salt, and some cilantro blended with the avocado. No extraneous and over pungent onion salt or extra onions or any over powering stuff to cover up the taste of under ripe avocados. Nope, this was absolutely delicious and was quite a generous portion of guacamole. All in all, only a few minor nitpicks for the place. Service was fast and a breeze. As I said, delicious food.

Was here when they first opened and it was real good. Just went and it has gone down hill. Service was fair at best. Got my order wrong, but they took care of it. They used to give you this really good smoky salsa with your chips. Now you have to request it and it is no longer as good as it used to be. Portions are tiny. Back to service....paid bill by card at table. Walked out and waitress was at door and did not even say thank you! I should have gone back and changed the tip. Won't be going back. Still wish it was Tijuana Flats.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
