I have eaten at the Hot Spot five times. The brisket is good, the pork is ok (very dry) , but I've never had a good rib there. The meat quality is very inconsistent and the prices are very high ($36 for a full rack of ribs). If you go there, try the brisket. The slaw is good, but the beans are syrupy and much too sweet. I'm sure they could be more creative with some good side dishes added to the menu. I do like their sauce...just the right balance of sweet, peppery spice and acidic tang. But good BBQ should be able to stand alone without sauce. Sauce should complement the meat, not cover up inconsistent cooking methods.

Pensacola BBQ has improved in the BBQ a lot over the years and this has to be on of the best. Been their with family so was able to sample a lot of different meals and all is good here. Mine has been brisket and ribs. Both were done to perfection. Will be a regular here.

Been driving by for years and never noticed this place. The smoker out front pouring smoke got my attention so I came back for lunch. Everyone was very friendly and the food was great. Til now the only BBQ joint in P'cola I knew of was Sonny's, so I NEVER ate BBQ when I was in town. Anyway, I got the combo plate with ribs and pulled pork and was not disappointed. The ribs were big and the pork serving was big. Everything was tender and tasted great. The beans were full of pulled pork for seasoning and the potato salad was almost as good as my mothers. I WILL BE BACK. If you are a BBQ person you'll love Hot Spot BBQ.

My husband & I found this place just driving by with our windows down. We saw the smoke coming from the huge smokers then smelled it as soon as we passed. We had to turn around & try it & that was the best decision of the day. It's a small hole in the wall Resturant with barbecue that's to die for. The staff was super friendly & the food was as good as any smoked meat I've ever had before. We will definitely come to this place again on future vacations to the beach.

So here's the thing, if you want the best barbecue in Pensacola, this where you need to come. The service is friendly and efficient and food is out of this world good. I had the brisket sandwich and it was cooked absolutely perfect with deep flavors and just right amount of heat. I can't wait come back and try the rest of the menu.

I'm very tempted to give this place five stars just for the ribs. I've never had such large, succulent pork spare ribs, cooked to perfection. Fall apart tender with a light char on the outside. The sauce was delicious, but in case you like to turn up the heat, they have a decent selection of hot sauces, including, my favorite, Scorned Woman. The ribs were so large and tasty that they definitely stole the show on my plate. I also got a smoked sausage. It was OK. I got cole slaw. It was OK. Potato salad. OK. But I didn't finish any of them because the ribs were just too damn good, and I didn't have enough room for those extras. The service was punctual, polite, and friendly. The food was delivered quickly (I was there pretty early, so I can't account for a lunchtime rush. I was surprised that the atmosphere had really improved since the building's last culinary incarnation (taco place, I forget the name). It's clean and orderly. Apparently, as other reviewers have noticed, they don't have a soda fountain. They use 2 liter bottles, which kinda sucks, and must not be cost effective for them, but my guess is that they don't have plumbing set up for a fountain. No big deal. Drink tea. Anyway, I'm definitely going back. I'm already craving those ribs the next day. If they're consistently delicious, I'll upgrade to five stars.

I came to the business today and Mr.Jim greeted me and apologized for what happen and truly went out of his way to make my daughter and I happy! He fixed a rib dinner for us that was more than enough and also included a gift card. I truly appreciate Mr.Jim! I had a long week with my bank taking a long time to process but Mr.Jim truly went out of his way to fix the issue. Thank you thank you! Five stars here!!!!

Just finished having one of the best smoked meals ever! If you're looking for a great BBQ place near Pensacola Beach, you have to try Hot Spot BBQ... Food was perfectly prepared and service was excellent. My wife and I will definitely visit again when in the area.

Yummy smoked meats. They smoke ribs, pork, brisket, etc in huge smokers out in front. Great mac n cheese sides and very yummy lemon creme pie! Customer service is fantastic. A must stop when in Pensecola.

This place smells way better as you're driving by than it tastes if you actually stop and eat.

The sauce is so good I could drink it. Really good BBQ since all of the old BBQ places I grew up with have shut down or have new owners. Try not to go during lunch time because they are packed and have limited seating.

Went to this place tonight. I got there as they were closing and the people were so nice and made me feel welcome even though they were cleaning up. I got the ribs plate and it was a ton of food! The sauce is just spicy enough Roland not overly hot. The ribs were some of the best I have ever had!! I highly recommend this place and will be back next time I'm in town!!!!

This is most likely the best BBQ I've ever eaten. The brisket is sooo tender, ribs are fall off the bone, pulled pork is fabulous. Don't forget to save room for the homemade lemon pie. It's not fancy but, it's clean and good! This place is the real deal. if you know BBQ, you gotta know Hot Spot.

We had been waiting to try this place for so long. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! The atmosphere is unbecoming of a real BBQ joint. The prices are outrageous and the service sucks. We spent $40 on lunch for a couple of sandwices amd two beers....I would have been better off going to Sonny's! Now I have to be forced to give a star rating!

Have been there twice and will be going back for more. Their ribs are the best I have had in a long time. Moist and smoked to the bone. Their sauce is not too sweet with a nice subtle tang. Also, make sure to get some lemon pie. It is fabulous.

This place recently opened in place of the old Let us Eat building and it was great. We ordered the ribs and chopped pork and I was pleasantly surprised. The ribs had a nice flavor, were cooked perfectly, and had a decent smoke ring. The beans and coleslaw were some of the best in the area. The chopped pork was succulent and tasty with a nice portion. The portions were not too big or too small, so my group left happy and not groggy. I decided to list the flavors seperate so that others who go in know what to expect. Learning from the owners where they were from, helps to understand where their flavor profiles come from. Hailing from Iowa, their flavors are more tangy and spicy than some local bbq (which normally is sweeter than places like Memphis). The bbq sauce is more tangy and spicy and adds a great flavor to their ribs and pork. I love the beans! The beans have that sugar scent but are more tangy and are, in my opinion, easier to eat than some places. Coleslaw was really original and delicious. The only detractor would be the corn, which was cooked very good but was plain (no butter or salt). The staff was exceptional. Very friendly and very eager to meet new people, I felt like I was experiencing a family dinner. I would highly recommend visiting this establishment.

Barbecue was pretty good. The beans and pulled pork was very good as well as a hefty amount of pulled pork was given, ham Mac and cheese was OK, a little dry and i guess I assumed mistakenly that "ribs" would be baby back ribs they were short ribs. Sauce was pretty good too. I would go back for the pulled pork.

I have eaten exactly one thing from here- the ribs. I get a half rack each time and each time they have been successively better and better until today they were, to me, the perfect rib. not over smoked. not dried out. meat falling off the bone and tender (some end pieces had a good char and solid but that is an acceptable trade off imo) and the cartilage is tender enough to chew and savor. the meat had a nice outer char ring adding to the flavor. not over seasoned. absolutely no fuel flavor, only pure bbq smoke. the sauce is very sweet for my taste and would welcome some choices like hot and sweet or vinegary. but nothing fru fru though. ive never dined in so cant comment about that type of service but when picking up im always promptly greeted and my wait is minimal. I cant comment on the sides as Ive never had any there. for me, when I want bbq, I could care less about the sides. this aint Hopkins Boarding House after all lol. as for the price, what can I say, good food costs money, period. a half rack is $20 and the portion is big enough I can split it up between two people or I can save it for the next lunch. so $10 a portion for really good ribs is not expensive in my book. if you want sonnys pricing go to sonnys. there sides are good but there ribs aren't half as good as hot spot at any price.

Finally took the wife to Hot Spot's for some of the best BBQ in Pensacola. This was my third trip with many more to follow. I've had the briskest twice and pulled pork once, all very good. May be a bit more pricey than chain BBQ restaurant but well worth it. The personal experience makes this an enjoyable dinning experience.

Came to Pensacola for Military and whenever I travel I like to try local places as that's usually the best food. Wow, did Hot Spot BBQ hold up their end of the bargain. I have been there 4 times since being here now, each time as good as the last. Ribs are fall off the bone delicious, brisket is the best in town and the pulled pork is tender and juicy. I got the combo plate each time, best way to go IMO. Only had the mac n cheese and pork n beans, both great. Their desert is fresh made every morning by the owner which is Lemon Cream Pie...I don't like this pie normally but I always get it to take with me to go its so good. Last thing to note, very military friendly with a discount at lunch if in uniform.

Several of us had seen it and wanted to check it out. We called at 7p on a Friday, a normal time for people to want to eat. They said they were running out of food, but they could seat and do takeout until 8p. I asked how large a group they could handle, and received no clear answer. But they said they had lots of beans and needed to talk to the kitchen. I said we would drop by when they pull it together. But really...out of food at 7p on a Friday? After this phone call I have my doubts. I mean, it's good to be popular, but it's popular to be good. UPDATE: After subsequent visits and tremendous improvement (and a free macaroon from a certain lovely lady), I've revised my rating. Good job guys. I love macaroons. ;)

I applaud the effort that was given and if I based my reviews solely on Customer Service I would have given this spot a 5 star rating. The food was, ehhhhh. If you go at lunch time, parking can be a bit of a hassle since this is a small place. I love mom and pop places, and this is definitely a mom and pop-type restaurant. Very small and no frills. This only works for me when the food makes up for it. Sadly, it didn't. I'm not sure if everything cooked is homemade because it just didn't taste that way. I had the pulled pork and my sides were potato salad(bland) and mac and cheese(really bland). Didn't care for the bbq sauce(maybe I'm used to the sweet bbq sauce Sonny's bbq has?) The brisket is the best thing on the menu so if they have any left make sure you get that.(They run out of it usually) Our waiter was wonderful, friendly and knowledgeable but I couldn't eat him, so he doesn't count. Two lunch platters with drinks came to $27. I've had better bbq for less at other places.

We were drawn in driving down the street with the amazing BBQ scent. It turned out to match the taste perfectly. We tried the chopped pork sandwich, sausage, and ribs and they were all delicious. The beans may well be the best I've ever had. I didn't try the coleslaw it's not my thing but everyone else agreed it was delicious. The lime pie was indescribably delicious. I'm not a pie fan and I had a slice and thought about a second. I recommend this place 100% the people are nice and the food is good. What else can you ask for?

Even my dad, BBQ connoisseur enjoyed! 1/2 rack was pretty large. Pulled pork was good. Sauce was sweet and savory at the same time. A little pricey. Mac n Cheese could use some work. I'll be back when I get a hankering for BBQ. Atmosphere is totally southern, too.

We tried several bbq places in Pensacola and this was HANDS DOWN our favorite. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. The owners came by and welcomed us on our first visit in and were warm and hospitable. We loved it so much we got a rack of ribs to go instead of a dessert.

I went there tonight and I had to order and eat fast to make it in time for an event. I had the BBQ chicken and it was very good. It was $9.99 and the portion was large. I thought it was a good deal. I'm a self-styled connoisseur of BBQ and while it may not be the most remarkable BBQ I've ever had, I enjoyed my meal and recommend this place to others.

Awesome service, perfect bbq joint atmosphere, outstanding meat. Ribs were large and perfectly cooked - flavorful, juicy, and just a little crisp at the edges. Sauce was tangy with a little bit of smoke and heat - delicious. Have not tried other local bbq places but have tasted some of the best of KC, Memphis, Chicago, etc. and these ribs compare favorably with any I've had. BBQ sausage was great too. Almost hate to review this place because I want to keep it to myself but I feel compelled to share the love.
