Fun place to take the family for some local southern food. Although almost everything on the menu is fried... Good spot if you need to seat a large group. It's always pretty busy but nothing fancy. They have a little flip show with the cornbread in the pan. Crab claws and fried pickles were a hit. Strangely odd bright blue/green water in ponds outside though. Looks like antifreeze. I never figured that one out.

We had the combo platter. The fried oysters were cold, fries were cold, fish was cold. The fried pickles were really good. Service was average. The atmosphere was good and the decor neat. It would have been better if the food came out warm. I would not go out of my way to go there again.

After getting over the name, my wife and I finally checked out Cock of the Walk. It is very convenient to my location, but the name, and the fried menu, were a turn off. The second issue was the hours, they are not open for very long (something like 4:30pm - 9pm, or something along those lines). On a previous attempt to eat there, they were closed. Turns out, it is a wonderful restaurant with a very country feel located in the northern part of Pensacola. We were wrong in waiting to go! We were seated immediately near the windows with views of the children outside feeding the ducks, catfish, and turtles in the pond. Watching the servers flip other people's cornbread, we opted to due the same when our server came back with it. One noteworthy observation, the restaurant successfully recreates a time in the late 1800's and the"fine china" reflect this. The "frisbee" pie pan that you eat off of was a somewhat of a turn off initially, as were the small cups for our drinks, but when you realize what they are recreating (read the story on the menu, which also explains where their namesake comes from) it all makes sense. The food was quite good! I don't recall the exact name of the meal I ordered, but think of it as a large sampler platter. My side was the largest sweet potato I think I had ever seen, and all of the food was very hot and delicious. The breading on the shrimp and chicken was adequate and not overpowering or over-breaded. The shrimp was actually large to jumbo size, and tasty! The food also comes with the option of pickled onions. I'm a Yankee, so I'm not sure exactly what that was for, but my wife had a few pieces of it. After dinner, my wife and I headed out to the porch area for our turn at feeding the fish, ducks, and turtles. If you are up on 9 Mile Rd and want something fried, but not the garden variety meal, it's worth a stop. I'm not sure I'd drive too far out of the way for it, but it was a very positive experience and I look forward to a return visit.

My kid's favorite place. This is a great place to take the family if you want a fun place to eat. The food is better at the Shrimp Basket.

Totally fun place. Another rustic looking southern restaurant with lots of hospitality and character, and fun for an out of towner. The crab claw was out of this freaking world. My beer came with a giant frosty mug and the water was served in tin cups that made it seem extra cold. The fry bread was delightful and our server was really friendly and quick. I had friend catfish for the first time and really enjoyed it. It was a little salty, but delicious. This restaurant is just as much about a fun dining experience as it is the food. There is a big fish pond out front and you can bring leftovers out front to feed the fish. My impressions of the panhandle of Florida are as follows. People are nice, at first I was suspect but I believe it now. Everything looks like urban sprawl and that is a shame because the country side is beautiful. People clearly miss the country because nostalgic places like Cock are very popular. The weather is out of this world, and the beaches are amazing. There are so many of the same places around the character of what makes this are special seems threatened. Please don't try to be like the rest of the country, be like the panhandle.

Cock of the Walk is a great place to come and get some southern comfort food! I have eaten just about everything on their menu and I can honestly say there hasn't been one thing that I haven't enjoyed! I will recommend Cock of the Walk to anyone in the area of Pensacola, Fl. If you are new to the south it's a real eye opener to southern our food and hospitality. Oh, and did I mention they flip cornbread?

The steak is amazing. Other than MCGUIRE's....this place is has the best steak for the quality and price. I've never been a fan of cole slaw, but their recipe is amazing. The cornbread never disappoints and the wait staff are fruendly and inviting. Great meal. Great price.

This is the best fried seafood place on the planet. I wish they had a location in the Denver metro. Whenever I'm on the coast, I'm there.

See the previous review. All true, but I'm not quite as high on the food quality. Yes, it's fine, but not quite 5 star food quality; especially when you figure in the higher prices. Last waitress we had seemed scared to toss the cornbread. We had her do it anyway with hilarious results!

Food was really good, service was decent, proportions were extremely sad for the price. Will not be going back.

Nice seafood and catfish house. Best bet is to start off with a mess of field greens, which go very well with their cornbread and pickled onions. We really enjoy the atmosphere ourselves, although some may find it too country.

They gave the best fried catfish filets you could ever eat. Can not be beat. Order them extra crispy and they are out of this world.

Very good restaurant. I will definitely be returning. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was great, and the staff was professional and friendly. I would recommend this to anyone visiting who wants southern cooking. And, guess what - they flip the cornbread ;) Very cool! The only reason I could not give 5 stars for this restaurant is a very limited dessert menu. The only thing available was Key Lime Pie. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of this and though it definitely didn't hurt to skip dessert, it would be nice if they could extend their offering to at least 3 or 4 items. Hope you get to visit and have as good a time as we did.
