Not bad but the wait time is a bit too long.

I guess for Orlando this is good Viet/Thai food. Having come from LA my expectations are kind of slanted. I would not come back here and would just go to E. Colonial for something more authentic.

If you want good food, good price, family atmosphere, and very very clean place. This is the place to go. I'll recommend to anybody. If you are in the mood for Vietnamese and Thai food THIS IS THE PLACE.

Wow. We went to Viet Thai cafe because of the previous YELP review, and because we had a coupon from the Entertainment book. We pulled up in front, but we didn't even go in. Why? The restaurant has florescent lighting, and the tables are folding tables, and the chairs are folding chairs. I don't choose to eat somewhere in a folding chair. We immediately left and went elsewhere.

I loved it!! Had Pho soup & Viet Spring Rolls. Fresh & yummy. Friendly staff & WiFi to boot!

We were in Florida Mall for the first time this year and probably the last time, and the kids were hungry and wanted Pho. Tried the Yelp app and searched for Vietnamese, and got bingo with Viet Thai. We avoided the drive to E Colonial, which is always a big plus, so VIet Thai had a headstart. Second plus was the friendly service. Always appreciated. Foodwise, it was really good. Prices were reasonable, so all in all - definitely recommendable. Try for yourself, if you're in the area. You will not be disappointed.

This place rocks, great pho, amazing pad thai. The contstruction out front is a bit of an eye sore but if you love great Vietnamese and Thai food, this place will make you very happy

Excellent thai or vietnamese food. Definetly recommend the drunken noodle and tom ka soup. Staff is friendly and food was quick with good service. Looks like a family run place. Don't mind what it looks like on the outside it's the food that counts!

  • Jeff M.

I had the spring rolls, which were crispy, not greasy, and tasty. Also, the chicken in garlic sauce. It's the garlickiesty sauce I've ever had, which is good, but was spicier than I expected for 'mild, no hot peppers' (it was laced with pepper flakes.) Prices are good; ambiance, minimal.

Great friendly service. All the food we ordered was very good and reasonably priced. I make it a point to go there anytime I'm in Orlando.

Great food- every time. Viet Thai has the best calamari that I have had in Orlando. The owners and staff are friendly. I am surprised that someone gave Viet Thai a negative review without even going into the restaurant and trying the food. TRY THE FOOD- then decide. You won't be disappointed.

Great food, nice staff, and good value. We've eaten here 3x already. The summer rolls are gingerly made and they used the thicker rice paper. I get the tofu ones which they'll make with or without herbs, just ask. My boyfriend always gets the rice noodles, fried egg roll, and skewer pork with fish sauce. It's a classic Vietnamese dish. We love it here. I tried the spicy beef soup, bun bo hue. Very good! Give this place a try if ur into Vietnamese cuisine. Nothing helps all restaurants get better than competition. Enjoy!

Good price and quantity, food is average.

I have been here a couple times. The pho was a big portion. I ordered the regular size, as opposed to large, but the server asked if we were sharing (my group of 4 girls) and I think he gave me large for the regular price. The servers are nice and although they seem to work hard, they are still a bit slow even when it is not packed. The decor is cute, but some of the furniture looks a little run down. They are closed in the early afternoon from 3-5, which makes it hard to get a late lunch/early dinner without having to time it right.

Looking for a place to eat pho and help brings us here. The place is pretty much an average, whole in the wall place. My parents and I order pho, and my brothers order pad Thai and pad see ew. The pho is below average as the broth doesn't have the original flavor pho should have. Note that the color of the broth is CLEAR. The meat texture is floppy and almost feels like it's already been chewed up. My brothers pad Thai and pad see ew were yummy. Service is great, just doesn't cut it for the food.

Best green curry I have every had. Server is very congenial and energetic. Definitely recommend. Great value, had to take some home. Place filled up on Tuesday at 7.

Very average (and overpriced) Thai food. I ordered the Chicken Panang Curry which is a staple item in every Thai restaurant and probably one of my all time favorite dishes. Unfortunately I was left a bit unsatisfied with the serving at Viet Thai Cafe. First, the chicken was a bit dry which is an automatic bad sign. Second, the veggies were HUGE. The onion pieces were so big and it was annoying trying to cut through them while trying to eat. Lastly, the rice that it came with was a bit dry so I could tell it was either sitting out for too long or overcooked. Oh, and it was $10! Waaaay too much for what I got. I've had much better Panang curry with larger portions and cheaper prices at other Thai restaurants in Orlando.

This place has restored my faith in Orlando Thai food. After many disappointing experiences, I finally thoroughly enjoyed a yellow curry meal here. It all worked. Everything was in complete harmony. Flavor, consistency, temperature, presentation, and rice to curry ratio were all perfect. Price point and service were excellent as well. I will be returning.

Service was great and so was most of the food. Fried tofu to start probrably the best ive had yet! Then our entrees I got the singapore noodles and she got the yellow curry. Curry was fantastic singapore noodles well, the noodles were over cooked and it tasted kinda bland besides the hint of curry I tasted. I still ate it so im sure there will be those who enjoy it more then I did. Great food though and I would come back next time I visit orlando!

Good crispy wings, summer rolls and Pho dac biet. Rice vermicelli and rice bowls were not as good though.

My family has visited here before and this is their second time, however my first! (We were on vacation.) After a busy day shopping during Black Friday we came here to eat dinner. The place was small but gave such a friendly vibe! Don't let the interior design scare you from trying the food. From what I was told this restaurant was family owned and 2 of the waitresses were out on vacation leaving only a couple people to work. Even though it was understaffed and there was one waiter the whole time (others were cooking), the service and food were great. He did a GREAT job honestly, being able to handle more than 5 tables and making sure everyone had been greeted and were satisfied with their food. If you had any questions about the menu, he was very knowledgeable and helpful. Now on to the food! For appetizers we ordered fried calamari, fried chicken wings, and the summer roll (I'm a sucker for all 3.) All 3 were fantastic! The calamari was crunchy, tasty, and the portion was large considering the price was around $9, it fed around 4 people. Much better than at some other places I've had, where I've had to pay $10+ for fried calamari. For the fried chicken wings, when we got them they were piping hot. The wings were crunchy, not dry, and flavorful. The summer rolls, only 2 for $3, and were filled with yummy veggies. Also the peanut sauce that comes with it are a delicious add to the rolls. My main course was the Bird's Nest and I chose shrimp as my meat. It consisted of some mushrooms, broccoli, and green beans with the Chef's gravy poured over fried noodles. It was amazing, the shrimp was tasty and the vegetables were cooked well. The Chef's gravy wasn't thick and was definitely an essential piece to the meal. The portion was pretty big and sadly I could not finish the whole thing due to all the appetizers. However my whole family left full and satisfied. With decent prices, good portions and friendly service I give this restaurant 5 stars! Again, don't let the interior of the place and the location disappoint you, it's about the food anyways! Sometimes small businesses are phenomenal :-)

I was looking for nice Thai restaurant in Orlando area. But it wasn't expecting much because I saw so many restaurants for sightseeing visitors. We ordered Tom yum koon and summer roles. Also Thai fish cake. Everything's tasty. Green curry is average good. Waitress is smiley and friendly. Very good. I want to try another menu next time. I wish I could come back soon.

Surprisingly good for what it appears to be. Service was good and fast. Really good flavor and good sauce.

This is my utmost favorite restaurant! I always have the summer rolls with fish sauce (not peanut sauce because of my severe food allergies), the pho soup, and sticky rice for dessert. Everything is delicious!!! Best of all- the noodles are rice- based so I can have them with no problems (I am highly allergic to everything gluten, unfortunately). My hubby likes to mix it up. He always has something different. He likes everything! The only thing he doesn't care for is, ironically, the pho soup. He feels like it's not filling enough for him because he needs more substance to his foods (he is 6'0" and weighs 325 lbs). We love the fact that it is family- owned and run. Everyone there is super friendly so there is awesome customer service going on (I am big on customer service, by the way).... All in all, I highly recommend this wonderful little cafe!

everything was good....and fresh! spring rolls and soup appetizers i started with had excellent fresh flavor and immediately came across as made to order which is extraordinary. then.....i asked about the desert there was a few choices and i have a sweet tooth....the waitress right away made it seem to me the fried cheesecake was made when i ordered it as well so i had to try it. it was unfuckingbelievable! you gotta have one! i will be back and i recommend highly you do too.

Went out of the way to come here due to fellow yelpers review and was not disappointed i was craving pho and this was the close one to me 30mins away. I ordered pho and the broth was spot on not to oily and the fresh spring roll was not bad as well. Yes there customer service is on point as well. Its a good place if you with some one that dont want pho they can order thai menu and you can have your pho fix i would recommend this place

I have been to Viet Thai almost every time I have visited Orlando. The food here is delicious. I ordered a their special soup bowl for lunch. Really good.

  • Alex C.

It doesn't taste like the real thing... Our first order, the fried chicken, was not fresh and it had an odd taste to it The pho was extremely salty and not good at all The basil stir fry came with really dry chicken and the summer rolls tasted like kitchen water Over all it was not a good experience.

Can you believe it? It was so cold in Orlando and I was not prepared. What is best on a cold, cold day? Pho of course! I ordered "dac biet" with rare beef on the side. Their broth was good and the beef tasted nicely tender. FYI: If you over cook the beef, it will be a little chewy. So order rare beef and extra bow of broth on the side and cook it yourself. The beef will tastes more heavenly. Try it next time you are there. Service was good. The people were nice. They got me what I want and they were tentative. We made some jokes and had a good time. Ambiance: Low key, Asian vibes mix with a pinch of Viet and a pinch of Thai. Try the fry banana ice-cream. It's good. Lastly, they are 5 minutes away from the convention center. So if you are doing a show it is a great place to try different food. The convention's food is dull.

Normally I would give this place 2 stars but considering it's located in Orlando, I'm giving them some leeway. I'm from Los Angeles, the mecca for Vietnamese food so one might think it'd be unfair to compare their food to my hometown. While visiting the city for business, I had a craving for some pho (as I usually do about once a month) so I came here and ordered it. Just some friendly recommendations to the owners: -the beef was sliced too thick. Slice is thinner and it makes for a better dish -the noodles are too thick and hard. They aren't the usual thin, rice noodles I'm accustomed to in LA. They were thicker and harder...which didn't taste too good when slurping. My colleague had a Thai dish and he enjoyed it. Service was fine and the shrimp spring rolls were excellent.

This place must have switched owners. Just came here for a quick pho dinner and was surprised at the quality of the broth and taste of the overall dish. I ordered the pho Dac Viet, and was frankly surprised at the flavors. Having just come back from my travels to India, I am always looking for spices and flavorful dishes. Here at viet thai I found a great restaurant for that. I heard the crispy calamari is great, can't wait to go back and try some.

Ummm ok...A for effort? Really really good service and attentive friendly staff...But the Food was ehhhhhh.... missing flavor? The pho was oily and bland...Pad see Ew was just ok. Having stayed in Thailand for a month for each visit over the years...this is not even close to the good food options in CA or Thailand. Maybe we should've tried something else???

Talk about a diamond in the rough!!! Located in a hole in the wall in strip mall, this gem is hands down the best Thai food in Orlando. We started with the Summer Rolls. The peanut sauce they came with was absolute heaven. We kept it after we finished to use on other items! Then we got the Thai Fried Rice with Beef!!! SO GOOD!! This was amazing on its own, but I still put a little bit of the peanut sauce on them. The waiter suggested putting a little of our curry on top, and that was a golden idea! Which leads me to the Green Curry with Beef. My taste buds were out of control, I literally couldn't stop eating it. After I was full, I had two more huge helpings of it. It was a party in my mouth. This might be some of the best curry I've ever had anywhere!! We left this place about an hour and half ago, and I'm still so full, but if someone offered me some more of that curry, I would take it happily. I overheard people ordering this for takeout and it makes me immensely happy to have found a great Thai place close by my house that I can order for takeout. Not only will I be back, but they might even get sick of seeing me!!

I was on the drive up to Orlando and told my friends to Yelp somewhere good to eat as soon as I arrived. They chose Viet Thai based on the solid yelp reviews. Unfortunately, I can't go as high as 4 stars with my review as the food was mediocre in my opinion and the service was only so-so. The highlight of the experience was my friend asking if he could BYOB and then running next door to the Walgreens to bring us all beers and mini wines lol. Don't judge, it was NYE and we were in the mood to get the party started. So again, maybe NYE added to the service issue and perhaps they were understaffed? Or not expecting such a crowd on a Wednesday (the place was packed) but it did take a long time to get our drinks, food, check etc. I started with the fried tofu which came out with a sweet chili dipping sauce (not the peanut sauce as the menu stated). The tofu itself was quite good though, and I did try the peanut sauce which came with my friend's summer rolls (he wasn't a fan and found them too full of noodles). For an entree I opted for the red curry - and skipped the rice since they didn't have brown rice and I needed to maintain my skinny-ness for the dress that evening lol. The curry itself was lacking a bit of flavor and I wasn't crazy about how the vegetables were cut up. I did try a few bites of my other friend's duck soup which was well balanced and much tastier. Maybe duck dishes are the way to go here. Overall there wasn't much ambiance and nothing was that great. Probably wouldn't be back.

The guys at work were wanting some Viet-Thai food and I decided to be a team player and go along.... I'm not sorry I did. I've never had Viet-Thai so I was a bit nervous. I was reviewing their selection (which was rather large) and ultimately decided on a safe choice of Honey Chicken. (I said I was being a team player, I never said I was brave.) The meal arrived and I was glad to see it was a decent sized portion. The chicken pieces were large and prepared marvelously. The honey sauce was very tasteful. It did not taste like someone just poured a bottle of honey on the chicken (which is a taste I have experienced before). It was sweet, and light, and just lovely. The rice was also good (especially when combined with the sauce). The location itself was clean and organized, and provide a good dining atmosphere. The staff was also friendly and helpful. I was scared to come at first, but I'm glad I did.

We stopped here on our way out of Orlando. Our expectations were exceeded by the great food and wonderful service. We enjoyed the easy going atmosphere and quick service. The employees were very attentive and helpful. We all ordered something different and everything was excellent. We will definitely be going back.

We stopped by here on a Saturday afternoon at around 2, luckily, since they close 3-5. Tried the steamed dumplings, I like them better than the Pad Thai. A little too spicy for my taste, but you can choose how spicy you want it. I'm only giving this place a two because it felt pretty run down and old. Needs a facelift.

One of the best vietnamese restaurant in Orlando. Trust me, I'm vietnamese! All the other vietnamese pho places in Orlando taste like pure water. Don't listen to American people! When it comes to vietnamese it's best to take advice from an asian people.

Have to give full disclosure on this one since my wife is Vietnamese. The food we had was good, but not as flavorful as we are use to. I had grilled pork, wife had a fried egg-noodle seafood dish (hers was by far the best) and the kids had Pho Ga (chicken noodle soup). We all shared fried egg rolls. My pork had too many bean sprouts (wow, alot). The kids soup (the broth) was kinda bland. Egg rolls were good and wife's dish was good too. I would go back.

This is best thai restaurant I have ever been.fantastic food at a very reasonable price. I eat almost 2 to 3 times a week. My favorite is drunken noodles , amaaaazing taste. I have tried almost all the chef specials on the menu. They are all very very tasty. The chef adds some secret sauce which makes them yummy. There's an entry called "birds nest" do not miss it, its the best. Very friendly staff.

The calamari appetizer is amazing -- the best calamari I have ever had! I usually get the eggplant with chicken (hot) and it always meets my expectations!

We liked this place. It was nice to have the Vietnamese and Thai options all under one roof. We started with the highly recommend summer rolls and edamame that were ok. I had the honey chicken, which didn't look like a lot on the plate but was quite good and filling. My wife had the large pho, and it was ginormous! Way more than she could eat, and it tasted great.

I am new to the orlando area, so of course I want to try out all the hot spots, especially ones upon recommendation from my friends. After work one night, we decided to head over to Viet Thai, a hole-in-the-wall vietnamese and thai fusion restaurant off of Sand Lake Road. The viet in me had been craving a 3 colored, red bean coconut dessert and a big bowl of pho so needless to say, I was PUMPED to finally go. Walked in, there was only one server working and all of the tables (though not many) were filled, so needless to say we weren't greeted properly and our big party of 8 seemed like more of a nuisance than anything. I ordered the shrimp spring rolls as an appetizer.... but where was the shrimp? there was maybe one piece of baby shrimp in it. My friend Dony ordered the pork spring rolls, which looked much better than my skimped out rolls. So i guess my B on ordering the wrong type. For my entree, I chose the pork dry noodles with veggies and vinegar. The food was served in plastic plates (im not joking). As if that was not bad enough, we also were served water in foam cups. yikes. Not asking for crystal stemware, but can a girl get some proper utensils though? I can't remember but the silverware was probably plastic too. Anyways, maybe it was just a bad time during refurbishment that we went, but the food to me is mediocre. It didnt taste horrible, and the prices were average, but its definitely something I am not dying to go back to again. I'm a cali native, and where I am from, vietnamese food is never made in the same kitchen that thai food is made in. Completely different types of foods deserve their own respective restaurants.

While the prices were the tiniest bit high (maybe not for the area though), the food was delicious, and the portions were generous. Their Tom Kha Kai had more coconut milk in it than I'm used to, but it was delightful, and I'm happy that I was able to expand my Thai horizons.

edible but totally not impressed. was here for a convention so use yelp. it had 4 stars so figure give it a try. service was good , the appetizer were ok. when the sir fry basil came it was a soup! no basil ... very let down. it was edible but not good. my friend ordered pho and it was average and they did not even bring the basil or the bean sprout .. another fail. now I need to stop by another place to eat just to be satisfied ... I'm thinking it's tourist that rate this place ..

Some of the best restuarants I have found, are hidden in plaza's or strips. Sometimes you have to go outside of your comfort zones & try something new, you may surprise yourself and find a new favorite place! Anytime I move into a new area, my goal is to find a new favorite for each cuisine. Living near the FLA Mall, and International Drive gives you a TON of places to choose from, you just have to do a little research. Viet Thai is one of these great finds. It is right off of OBT and Sandlake in the plaza behind Walgreens on Sandlake. Inside it is a small place with a few tables, they also offer take out and has delivery through Doorstop Delivery. The staff is and customer service is great. They offer a good selection of various Thai and Vietnamese dishes. They are also very resonable priced compared to other places around town and the portions are very generous. The flavor of the food is good, but could use a little more flavor. Its like when you cook and it tastes great, but if you added a pince of salt, it would be amazing! The first time I ate here I had the Tom Ka Chicken Soup. It was ok, but if it would have had just a touch more flavor & seasoning it would have been better. I also had their Summer Rolls with Shrimp, these were very good and their peanut dipping sauce is delicious. They are very refreshing and you get 2 per order. The last thing I tried was the Pad Thai. I agree with other reviews that it was kind of dry, but was very good and had a lot of flavors. The next time I will ask for extra sauce, it was just that good. I went tonight and I had to get the summer rolls with shrimp again. Its something about that sticky rice paper wrapped around lettuce, noodles, cilantro, & shrimp. Knowing you get to eat some of that yummmy peanut butter dipping sauce makes it that much better. I tried the Pad Kee-Mao or as it is better known as the "Drunken Noodle". I decided to try this after seeing reviews and glad I did, it was very good. This time I ordered it with extra sause, and it was better then when I had the Pad Thai, definately not dry this time. Overall I would recommend this place to anyone wanting good food at a reasonable price. You will be happy not only with the service but also your overall expierience.

Can't decide between Vietnamese & Thai ? Now you don't have to! I ordered spicy Tom Yum soup, beefy spring rolls and Honey Chicken with Rice. They were not disappointing and the beefy spring rolls were on point! Just add a little Hoisin Sauce to the mix.

One of my favorite asian restaurants. Food is good and the price is reasonable. The portion of the dish is quite a lot for the price. I love pho and papaya salad from there. I always recommend my friends to go there.

went for take out. The tom yum ghai was very good. The red curry chicken was not spicy at all I guess I should have asked. But j thought curry was some kind of spicy. The place definitely deserves more than 3.5 stars. This place is worth going back to. ... And I did. Got some tom yum again and Singapore noodles, I asked to make them spicy this time, but again not spicy at all. They gave me an additional spicy sauce which was barely a beginner spice. Very strange a Thai that does not know spicy!! But nevertheless the food tasted good again. So I'll be back. I just have to work on the spice level.

I just visited Orlando this weekend for a short weekend vacation. It was raining and cold and what else is best at that time.... PHO!!!! Since i haven't been to Orlando in over 8 years, i went on Yelp to find a good Pho place. Then I found Viet Thai Cafe.. OMG!!!! For being on vacation and not knowing the area, this place was delicious. My friend that went to lunch with me never had Pho before in his entire life until that day. He was amazed at how good, hot and seasoned the Pho was. We also shared the calamari appetizer, which was cooked to perfection. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They knew exactly what we wanted and were very attentive. I will definitely come back to dine at Viet Thai Cafe the next time I travel to Orlando. :-)

Came with the impression of this place serving good thai AND Viet food... Summer rolls with pork and shrimp were good, could tell they were freshly rolled... Ordered the Pho tai ...Good, clean broth, nice tasting pho... As for the thai part of this cafe, ordered the pad see ew with beef. beef was horribly dry, it was way too saucy and the sauce was not good at all. It was a little busy due to the lunch crowd so maybe that had to do with the lack of preparation in the thai food. Pretty small area, lots of guests were waiting around noon for a seat and the staff was working hard to accommodate. Service was good and kind, just needed to work on the THAI part of this cafe

New to the orlando area and I was craving Thai food. Found this place, which is close to my home and had good reviews. Ordered the shrimp summer rolls and yellow curry to go. The restaurant was clean, the staff were very friendly and courteous and my meal took a total of 5 minutes to prepare. The summer rolls are amazing and the peanut sauce that comes with them is delicious, as was the yellow curry. I'll definitely be back again.

Drove out of the way while in Orlando to get some good Thai food at Viet Thai per the Yelp ratings. Service was absolutely some the best experienced. But the food was 3 out of 5. It wasn't great Thai, just good Thai. Wish I could rate higher. I would not go hear again, as their are plenty of Thai places in Orlando that are better.h

This restaurant is in the Florida Mall area. There is nothing fancy about the dining room which only has about 6 tables. Don't let the spartan interior fool you though because you are not going to eat that. It is the food that matters and boy do they deliver! Dee-lee-shus! And the prices are cheaper than other fancier Thai restaurants in Orlando. C'mon man you are not going to eat the decor so why pay for it?

Yeah I ventured out again into another mediocre looking strip store storefront restaurant. Guess these guys can all thank the YELP 100 Challenge to get me off my normal caloric choices game. Boy was I glad I did again! Don't do as I have for YEARS and judge this place by their blaaah-zey front. Restaurant is clean and simple and my food was GOOD! Service was a sole waitress that was friendly, accurate and - well there it is. Great job! The Summer Roll appetizer ($3.95) should be shared. These two chubby guys are nearly over 2" in diameter and 5 or so inches long. That's 10" of hefty roll campers! I didn't try, but I'm certain it's way more than the normal mouthful as far as rolls go. (yes, I'm holding back - a lot). The peanut sauce was just a bit sweet, but welcomed slathered on the sticky roll. If you like cilantro- this is your ticket. Once, I got my pay off with a mouth-taste of that soooo wonderful Thai-basil - ummm!! The 2 shrimp that were also hidden in there were well, only for the added protein boost I reckon. The rice covering has this convenient "tackiness" to it that assures you won't loose ya grip, when the chomping gets serious. Main deal was the Green Curry.($8.50) (Told you I love that Thai Basil) This too was delicious- with the coconut milk sauce and mild curry with ever so minuscule of "gotcha" spicy. Oh, the red bell peppers, onion, broccoli, green beans and Asian eggplant were served hot. That eggplant is an interesting specimen you probably have never seen before - most likely. No discernible flavor in particular, typical of eggplant but visually quite intriguing. LOVE the curry and Thai Basil! Served with ample Jasmine whitey rice, It is meal a plenty. Only issue I had was needing to cut some of the peppers and green beans. I mean really, there is no knives on the tables. Really, no issues at all. They did a good job, I'm going back soon.

The curry was not fresh!!!! My friend and I ordered a portion and we both got STOMACHACHE!!! The pho was mediocre... I'll only go back if I'm desperate for some viet/Thai food. Very friendly waitresses!!

Service was very good. We had the summer roll, pho, and red curry. Everything was excellent. Don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu.

Friendly service and delicious food. I get the pad Thai noodles and the panang curry pretty regularly, thoroughly enjoy both.

Went here with my family on a quiet Sunday afternoon. In total there was six of us and three other customers in the restaurant. The two waitresses avoided people waiting for service by not making any eye contact...so the only thing to do was wait. When one of them came to the table to check up on us, she was very rude and impatient, she just walking away quickly before anyone could answer. Food had a lot of msg...you can even see it around your food! Pho was ok. Nothing special. Portions are small, bowls are large. Pad thai was good but very dry, but the thai tea is was surprisingly authentic and din't use cheap powdered dairy creamer or powdered thai tea! It was actually amazing, fresh thai tea. Wouldn't come here again, even though it is one of the few asian restaurants around this area.

We ate there for lunch today and even though there was a wait in line we were seated pretty quickly. I had Shrimp Pad Thai and hubby had Pho' and Summer Rolls. The food was great and service was excellent. Great food+Excellent Service=5 STAR!

this place is great. it's nothing fancy. I get the korean bbq ribs on a rice platter. i also start get the pork summer rolls. I have also had the pork pad thai which is very good too.

I went here for lunch with a friend. The staff was very friendly and kept on coming to our table to make sure eveything was ok. However, my friend and I were both surprised that they didn't have a lunch menu. I ordered the drunken noodles. They weren't as flavorful as other places so I was a little disappointed.

We are from Toronto, and this place is excellent for a break from fast food for us. They will meet your expectation for the price, friendly server as well. Pad thai Pho are good!

Every since my friend recommended this place to me, my boyfriend and I have picked this restaurant as our go to for Vietnamese/Thai food. I enjoy their selections of Pho and my boyfriend enjoys their Pad Thai (although at times can be inconsistent and be too oily or too sweet). Still he enjoys their Pad Thai. The service there is friendly and the price is pretty inexpensive compare to other Thai restaurants in the area (believe me we tried a few).

I'm very thankful this place is right by work for me. I live in Lakeland and there's not much around except for chains. Very thankful I work in Orlando and can eat pretty much anything! Came in at 1 for lunch hour. It wasn't too busy and I was seated right away and asked what I wanted to drink. I normally have people look at me funny when I ask for coke and water, but she was happy to get it for me. Ordered pad Thai medium heat with chicken. Only took 7-10 minutes for my food to come out, piping hot. Had a great flavor, plenty of sauce, not overly greasy and I liked that they use a thinner noodle. Chicken was plump and juicy (I find that restaurants have a tendency to dry their chicken out in Asian meals) and held the sauce well. I had so much food for lunch that I had leftovers! My bill came to $10 and change before tip. Highly recommend this place!

Visiting Orlando and was lucky enough to find the little treasure! Best pho I've had hands down. Coconut shrimp is amazing!

  • Elizabeth Y.

I got their Pad Thai, and it was really dry. My boyfriend got the Coconut Curry and it was delish! It also saved my Pad Thai as I added some of the curry to my pad thai to add flavor. Tip : Ask for hot sauce before you leave if you ordered takeout. The Proportions are huge. My pad thai could easily feed 2 hungry people. Decently priced. Good place to go if you're craving Asian food.

My new favorite Thai restaurant in Orlando! I was a little apprehensive at first because its located in a small shopping center but finally gave it a try. The summer rolls are HUGE, i always have a big appetite but one of these is plenty as a appetizer and you get two. The portions of food are also very large and very fresh! The staff is extremely friendly and the service is very quick! The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because sometimes at lunch you have to wait to get a table, they don't have many tables which is odd. I think if they made better use of their space they could add about 5+ more large tables and eliminate the wait. But either way, its still worth the wait! I've been to this restaurant probably 10 times in the last 2 months and it keeps getting better and better! I would HIGHLY recommend this to all Thai food lovers. PS: Is it just me or does it seem the fancier the Thai restaurant the worse the food? This place isn't super fancy and it isn't a dive either, just comfortable and casual!

The small Viet Thai Cafe is west on Sand Lake Road just as you turn off South OBT. It's a small place with only eight or nine tables, with an open view of the kitchen. I've dined here twice before and ordered from their Thai menu, but it didn't make a lasting impression on me. Yesterday, I decided to order from the small Vietnamese portion of the menu for the first time. I began with an appetizer of Fried Tofu (I'm not sure whether that was Viet or Thai) accompanied by a sweet and sour sauce and a peanut sauce (sounds Thai). The sweet and sour sauce worked, but the peanut sauce didn't do so much. I moved on to a Vietnamese Clear and Egg Noodle soup with shrimp, scallops and squid with the usual Vietnamese "fixings" (sprouts, lime, jalapeno slices, mint). The soup was loaded with cilantro and sliced green onions, but the broth was slightly watered-down. A good dose of sriracha helped give the soup more flavor. The restaurant was very crowded; in fact I got the last available table. It appeared that all of the clientele were Caucasian -- maybe that's due to the makeup of the neighborhood. But the atmosphere didn't seem as authentic as dining in the Mills-50 district. The Asian wait staff was Americanized and the music being played was American (Marvin Gaye, for example). I saw on the menu that Viet Thai also features Korean BBQ. Maybe they have stretched themselves too thin.

I was craving Pho and was looking for a place near our house. Read some of the reviews on Yelp before going and I'm glad I went! My husband ordered the Thai Chicken Fried Rice and I ordered the Pho Special. Food was absolutely delicious, fresh, and worth the money. The servers were friendly and polite. He ordered a sweet tea (it wasn't brewed, it was from a Gold Peak fountain) and I ordered a delicious Thai Tea. I will be visiting the restaurant again in the near future!

I'd rate this a 4.0 for food and 4.0 for service. I was looking for legit Thai food in the Orlando area. I wasn't particularly interested in the japanese-chinese-thai-vietnamese-korean "we cook all different kinds of Asian food for you" restaurants that you see around the theme parks. What is that all about? At least VietThai specializes in only 2 Asian cuisines. This place was about 7 miles from our hotel, so we said what the heck. We'll try it. My kids enjoyed the tofu summer rolls even though I thought it just looked ok. They were monstrous and very filling. My son had drunken noodles with tofu (he is a vegetarian and it's very difficult to find vegetarian options in the Orlando area). He enjoyed his meal. My daughter had the vietnamese chicken bun (vermicelli noodle bowl), my son had the pho tai, and I had the garlic sauce with chicken and rice and my husband had the stir fry steak with the bell peppers and onions. Everyone thought their meal was delicious. I really wanted to try the green papaya salad; I will get that next time. There was a LOT of chicken in my dish. I'm used to a few pieces of chicken with a lot of vegetables but this one had more chicken than veggies. I only wish that I had ordered my dish hot instead of medium spicy. But because you never know what the different heat levels are for different restaurants (especially when trying them for the first time), I played it safe by going with medium. Food is plentiful and we took leftovers back to the hotel - enough for another meal for each of us. Service is very good and friendly. I would definitely return again if/when we are in the Orlando area.

First time here and YUM! I really, really enjoyed the food here. You would really never even find it if you didn't know specifically where it is. A friend/colleague told me about it, and I love Thai food, so I really wanted to check it out. Delish, and clean! Two of my requirements when it comes to eating out. I will definitely go back for lunch, dinner, or take-out. I wrote a post about this place, so you can read more here: wp.me/pbSaM-2Hk .

This place is not good for Pho. It tastes like instant broth with added fish sauce. The spring rows are no good. Maybe the other thai items are good, but the soups are not. The people who eat real Pho will know this stuff is not real. It is only a quick fix to make a buck.

Dumpy place with mediocre Thai food. Go a couple of extra miles and get something much better!

    (2)
  • John O.

Not good. Service on the lunch hour was rude about seating my party of 5. It took more than 30 minutes for the items to come out of the kitchen the place wasn't busy. My pad see ew wasn't good at all. Wrong type of noodles, tough beef, overly sweet.

I have been coming here since they first opened and business is booming. I really like their bun and pho but for me their best dish is the Yum Beef. The staff treat you like family and readily learn your favorite orders. I wouldn't say they offer the best Viet Thai food in town but they sure do offer some of the best friendliest service around. Go! you won be disappointed.

Restaurant.com strikes again as we find yet another gem that we otherwise never would have seen, and makes us fill ourselves beyond normal limits to make that $35 minimum happen. It's definitely a mixed blessing when you find it hard to make that minimum happen. Of course, it's bad because you want that $25 off. But then it's good, because that means the place is cheap! So in order to hit this minimum, we ordered the chicken satay appetizer to start, along with two cups of the Tom Yum Shrimp soup. The chicken satay was tasty, but the soup was incredible! Do yourself a REALLY big favor and try that. I'm sure you'll agree. Then, already starting to fill up a little and still reeling from the deliciousness of the soup, we ordered our main meals. The waitress kind of laughed at us as we joked about rolling out of the place, and said that it was normal for restaurant.com customers to order to-go items to make their minimum. I ordered the yellow curry. When our meals came, the waitress chuckled a bit and said, "I'll go ahead and get you some boxes." The yellow curry was very good, but not as special as I was hoping. Not as special as that soup. :-) It was a good experience overall. We may have skipped dinner that day, but we had a good time, and the waitress with the great sense of humor left a lasting, happy impression.

I can't say enough about this place!! The food was phenomenal!! The pad tai and the soup dish I had were insanely good! The waitress was friendly and very responsive to our big groups needs-the service was also super fast. We went on an hour lunch break and there was more than enough time to eat and enjoy. Will definitely go back again...and again and again. Two thumbs up!!

"Cubes of beef" dish ( I forget the name) is spectacular. Nicely spiced--- but not spicy hot. It's a "must get" item! Spring rolls were just good, but the winter rolls were great. This is a neat Family run restaurant that's a bit nicer and larger than some of the smaller restaurants on Colonial near Bumby; if your tastes are toward the less spiced foods, I think you'll like this modern, clean restaurant.

Place looks like your typical strip mall pan-Asian food place. One of those hit-or-miss types that could either serve up really legitimate food, or could cause you to call up your local doctor on the porcelain telephone. Luckily, this place is the former. We started off with the chicken satay, which featured a gratifying hunk of chicken on the stick. It wasn't one of those overcooked, thin, leathery things you might find anywhere else. Here, they serve a seriously large strip of breast meat that retains its juice. The shrimp penang was decent. Obviously not very large shrimp, but on the other hand, at least they weren't tiny little shrimp. The everything was well-cooked and the flavors were balanced nicely. No complaints!

My better 1/2 says I must try a place at least twice before I rate it. Ok I have. Without a doubt, hands down the nicest staff! I could not have felt more welcome, wow nice people. I had the bird nest (think Raman noodles with a mix of veggies and meat) it was good just not my style. I also had a Pad Thai which was a bit heavier than I usually like. I need to try the Pho before the verdict is issued.

The pepper steak was not what I thought it would be, chunks of nice juicy pieces of steak as described. It was shaved meet.

service was good, staff nice. Food was fresh-tasting, and well cooked. My bro said he'd had much better pad thai in a predominate Vietnamese/Thai neighborhood elsewhere, ad although he and I enjoyed our dishes, he said he wouldn't come through again knowing he could get better. I asked for 'spicy', and was pleased with my choice. Spice didn't overpower the flavor of the noodles and chicken. One star taken off for the bad, nuked-ish fish cakes which sounded wonderful when described on the menu, but were disappointing.

Great food, good price, huge portions. Pho and basil stir fry were both good, as were the spring rolls. The small pho is more than you'll be able to finish. Worth the drive from our LBV hotel room!

I've had only one Thai dish in my life but Pad See Ew is all I need honestly. And this place makes it quite lovely. The sauce is sweet and the noodles are juicy. I've had it twice and I can't wait for a 3rd!

I first had Viet Thai Cafe because they were on doorstep delivery and we were being lazy. We ordered to-go again the other day but this time ventured out ourselves to go get it. First off, the lady that took my phone order was so nice! She was helpful, repeated my order and overall just great! When my boyfriend went in to pick up the food he came out saying how nice she was too. Friendly service is a plus and she gets an A+. The food is very good. I am so glad that I now know I can drive 5 minutes down the street for a great big bowl of Pho and not all the way to Colonialtown. The summer roles were huge and a great starter, their peanut sauce is amazing. I've also tried the Pad Kee-Mao aka Drunken Noodles. Delicious blend of veggies, noodles and meat of your choice. And the Singapore Noodles were fantastic as well. A hearty blend of chicken, shrimp, veggies and wonderful rice noodles. If you are near Florida Mall (and even if you're not...doorstep delivery) this place is worth your time. I'll be a regular. Oh almost forgot...the prices are great too!

Thanks Yelpers, never would have stopped here without your reviews. We had Thais ice coffee, Thai fish cakes, summer rolls with the 'to die for' peanut sauce, drunken noodles, and Thais chicken and basil. All of it was outstanding! We especially enjoyed Linda, who was a one woman show handling the front of the house. She was very sweet, efficient, and funny. Place doesn't look like muchand not much inside but don't let that fool you. It's a gem!

Tried their pad see ew, very large quantity. A little bland but the beef made up for it, super tender and juicy. I gave them two stars because everything was sticky; the table, chairs, floor.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place. I don't live in the area right now, but when I did I would be there on a weekly basis. The owners are friendly and efficient. Everything is just amazing and done right. Personal favorites are Pho' Tai and Beef Eggplant. This is one of the few places where I question whether or not they add crack to their food to make it so addictive. You need to go here immediately!

  • Karen L.

Go for the yummy food and return because of the owner's hospitality. What a great find! The pho was delicious. Soup was flavorful and noodles seem to come out of a bottomless bowl. Not complaining, all good. Tried their soups, Tom Yum Shrimp was not too tart and Tom Gai was good, do ask for added spice "heat" to the Tom Gai. The coconut milk made the soup a bit too tamed. Curry is a must here. There are 3 different kinds. Beware that you don't order everything with coconut as the main ingredient. Try different spices and flavors. Now on to the hospitality part. The owner greeted us after our waitress took our drink orders. She then checked on us like 3 more times. Great customer service to say the least.

Nice people, great friendly, fast service, drunken noodles was good, (a little spicy) chinese broccoli was delicious! They even gave extra rice without us having to ask for it :) Thai iced tea was also yummy and large portion. Goi cuon was disappointing; lots of noodles (vermicelli) inside, peanut sauce was thick. Very reasonable pricing.

Menu is same all day, so no lunch specials, overpriced on many meals . Thai curry beef was outstanding, not greasy, tasty. Beef Pho was the worse I've ever had it was greasy, tasteless, lacking veggies which Ive seen at other Vietnamese restaurants. Service was friendly .

The place seems like a small neighborhood restaurant that mostly caters to walk in or delivery service but it has about 6-7 tables for dining in, And when we got there almost near closing time on a weekday, three tables were already occupied. So, it does have customers. The prices are fair and reasonable for the most part considering the size of the portions, The Pho is $7.50 (regular) or $8,.50 (large) and they use a humongous bowl. My wife's pho was tasty though the basil was only a few twigs but sufficient for most. The pork rice noodle was about $9.00 and huge, It was tasty though the grilled pork was overdone and the carbonization was a little too much but that was the worse of it. The spring rolls were huge and good. Perhaps they had too much stuffed into them but the peanut sauce was a little too salty. But over all, we thought it was good value. The atmosphere suffered though and it is a very plain neighborhood restaurant that could do some sprucing up. This place has mostly Thai items of decoration on the wall though it appears the owners may be Chinese Vietnamese. The menu is rather eclectic with mostly Vietnamese food but also Thai (Southeast Asian) and a touch of Japanese (edamame) and Korean (bbq) but not much. Strangely eclectic. We had no problems with the service as the young woman at the front counter served us well and was busy all the time we were there. We may go back to try other things on the rather large menu.

Hit and miss. Like others have said, they owners is so sweet and the other employees are friendly and helpful too. You really get the feeling they value your business. The food can be very good, like the curry or the pepper beef and tomato entrees. Others, like the pho are just ok. They do have some odd choices. For instance, I ordered wonton soup and the man taking the order informed me these were made with shrimp instead of the usual pork. I don't do shrimp so I changed the order. I appreciate him giving me the heads up, but I guess I wish he offered to have them made with pork instead. Hmm, maybe I'm asking too much. The star of the show each time I have been here is the rice. Yes, the rice. It's jasmine rice but it is so much more fragrant than most places. Odd that I am raving about a normal side dish, but I wanted to take out a straw and snort this stuff! errr, I'm suddenly having writers block and I can't come up with a closing thought :/ DOH!

We had 15 (Asian American) people drop in for an early dinner on a Friday night. We got prompt friendly service and had a great time of fellowship. The food was diverse: a mixture of Viet and Thai: hence the name is very appropriate. We all enjoyed the food, but mine was a bit sweet. ALL-n-all, I would go back when I'm near that area. BTW: the waiter worked is butt off for us. His brother blew him off and he worked the whole place by himself...but he was amazing! ;)

This place was just as the 3-stars describe. A-Okay. Came here for lunch before work a while back. The service was definitely courteous and the owner had a very friendly demeanor about her. I had the Pad Thai as the main course and the spring rolls as an appetizer. My only complaint was that the spring rolls were PACKED full of veggies and only 2 small shrimp. Besides that, it is a cozy little shop located in close proximity to the Florida Mall. I would venture back there, and when I do, I wanna try that Thai coffee they have. Seemed intriguing!

First off... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR NEWBIES TO THAI & VIETNAMESE FOOD! Twice now have I been to the Viet Thai Cafe and, both times, I've left completely satisfied and surprised at how delicious it was. In contrast to the one degrading review about this place, I believe that a fair critique for a food establishment should be based on the FOOD, not just the outside appearance from a friggin' parking lot. Now, I'll admit, it's nothing entirely special. It's the same basic cafe setting that you'd find in any big city, honestly: A few tables and generic steel chairs (which DO NOT FOLD OUT), a few decorations on the walls and a TV over the ordering counter. The food is cooked behind the counter itself, so you get to hear and smell every little bit of goodness in store for you. Though you don't have to order directly from the cashier at all. The owner and cook gladly waits on you, or has one of his other staff do so while he's preparing food. Most of which consist of his family and friends, so overhearing their little conversations can be pretty entertaining at times. Now as far as the food is concerned, you get exactly what you ask for, and in definite abundance. Lovely rice noodle bowls full of sliced grilled chicken and fresh vegetables, with Vietnamese sweet sauce on the side (which you'll be wanting more of, for sure). Minty summer rolls tag-teamed with a rich, thick peanut dipping sauce. Tangy, sweet and spicy curries dressing your choice of meat, veggie or tofu, and plenty of rice to soak up whatever might be left over. Most of their entrees are not priced individually, but by what meat/protein you choose to have and in what style you want it prepared. The most expensive being the seafood (around $10). It's that little affordable convenience everyone can enjoy from the Viet Thai Cafe, and it's their savory, authentic dishes you can rely on. So, in short, don't expect to be wowed by lush decor and sexy atmosphere. Just expect simple satisfaction, in a simple setting, and expect to go back for more! (Not to mention they're right up the road from a Lollicup, a Starbucks and across the street from a Cold Stone Creamery. Just in case you feel like putting a cherry on top of your special evening)

Don't expect a fancy stimulating atmosphere. Don't expect to be dazzled by scenery or decor. Do however expect to have real honest to goodness great "pho" , summer rolls or pad thai. Bottom line, the food is excellent.

Pho is okay, if you are only grading broth and noodles. Otherwise accompanied vegetable is what you would expect coming from a pho place in the boonies somewhere in Alaska. Their Thai food is like saying tex-mex is authentic Mexican so as long as they keep calling it Mexican food . Then again Taco Bell is decent by that standard too. If you are confused by my wording, what I meant is that stir frying some noodles in a dark sauce doesn't make it a Thai dish... Just saying!!!

  • Clara S.

The Pho soup was really great,... I had the rare beef. I also had an order of summer rolls mmmm yummy but not 100% the same as the Colonialtown ones I compare all summer rolls to. The peanut sauce that is served with the summer rolls was "spot on". Unlike Pei Wei, where they really miss the mark for the summer roll sauce. Viet Thai's version has a great deal more noodles in them which made them larger. I would have liked to have more Thai basil, but hey! it just might be me. The prices were just a little more than what I am used to, but they don't have thousands of other Vietnamese Thai places to compete with in this area. Overall,... "I am a fan" the people were friendly and the food is fragrant and tastes good. I can see that this would be a great place for lunch, which is when I went and it was pretty busy. It is a strip mall environment with very little decor. So If you are going for the food,... have at it,... but if you are looking for more flair my recommendation would be to hit the Thai House downtown.

My family, in the throes of an ill-advised Disney vacation some three days before Christmas, spied Viet Thai Cafe on our way to our hotel, and it somehow stuck with us (probably because of the lackluster offerings from the Disney parks--World Showcase, notwithstanding). Since Orlando was amidst 50-60-some degree weather, we decided some Pho would really hit the spot after a long day at the Magic Kingdom. I always find myself rather leery of combination places--so often such restaurants offer such a wide variety of plates, that no single item excels, but their ability to cater to every palate in one sitting somehow rises above the mediocrity of everyone's orders. Despite the split attention to both cuisines, I have to say that I was quite happy with the bowl of Pho that I ordered--sizable and flavorful. The man who took our orders (I suspect he was the owner) was friendly and as warm as our soups, accommodating and eager to please. While there was an issue with our order (I gathered from the open kitchen that it was a mix-up with the kitchen staff), he was apologetic and tried to make things right for us. Perhaps I'm more used to the curt attention I've received in Atlanta, but Viet Thai Cafe definitely garners an extra star for that service.

I liked the service for an Asian hole-in-the-wall resto. Usually the service for these ma n pop asian restos r rushed ...but they were courteous. I would like to say the same for the food...but I just can't. It's usually never a good idea to mix two cultures in a resto cuz its better to specialize in one. The pho noodles were a bit stiff and broth was too salty. I had the pad Thai. The flavor wasn't robust as it should be. However...the Thai iced tea was Good cuz they served a large portion. Place was a bit busy. Cleanliness was okay. I'd def try another pho spot in Orlando.

I was craving viet food and this was down the street from where I was working today...I read the good reviews and the bad reviews and decided to go against my better judgment and take a chance because how bad can they screw up noodles and herbs, right??...although service was prompt and friendly, the dishes I ordered were TERRIBLE. The summer rolls were full of noodles with a few cilantro leaves and two small pieces of shrimp. The peanut sauce was overpowered by hoisin sauce and hence too salty. My fried spring rolls were as big as Chinese egg rolls and full of this awful tasting ground meat. my chicken vermicelli bun was not fresh at all. The chicken was charred and dried and the nuoc mam sauce was too salty, too fishy and tasted too old. I was starving but didn't even knock a dent in any of my dishes- which is unfortunate because I LOVE viet food and always always finish my dishes. If you are Asian or like viet food, stay away from here, I wish I did.

This place is great. We got 3 appetizers, 2 main dishes and a Iced Coffee and the total came to $38, then add in the Restaurant.com Gift cert and this was a heckuva deal. I admit, the only reason I found this place was due to the Restarant.com Gift Cert combined with the reviews on Yelp. But thats the whole point of a privately owned restaurant signing up with Restaurant.com . I talked with the owner about that and he was very friendly, telling us that they've gotten more business due to the coupons, and I have to admit thats why we went there. The place was great and the staff was friendly. The food is made to order, and they ask you how spicy you'd like it. I chose medium and it was dead on. We arrived around 8:40 with the place closing at 9, and they did not rush us out or make us feel uncomfortable. You can really tell when people that own the place are working there, since they actually want your business and don't rush you out of hurry you along. Great place! I'd definitely recommend this to anyone else.

Excellent food with good serving time and friendly staff. Try the soups! Super clean establishment with great prices. We're visiting from Virginia and saved to our GPS for a return visit.

Food - great. Like it. Fresh, standard Vietnamese food. Decor - craptacular. I mean, really, aluminum patio chairs? Service - decent. Family run. Price - higher than it should be, but not by much. NOT child friendly, unless your child is a global gourmet. We took the niece, and she flatly refused to eat anything. Unfortunately, this means I will not be back, as I'm only in Orlando when I'm visiting family.

We went for a quick inexpensive bite to eat. We had no trouble finding a table at all. I had the red curry with chicken and my girlfriend had the green curry with chicken. Food was great as well as the service. Best Thai I've had yet.

Only one person in my party enjoyed their food. Stick with the panang curry if you actually want to enjoy your food

Wow, from all the great reviews you'd think this restaurant was a must visit. I stopped by for dinner on my way out of town from a convention. Only 2 guests inside, granted I was there before 6pm, so chalked it up to being early. The gentleman who took the orders & served was very nice, but the food....by far the worst Thai/Vietnamese I've ever tasted. I LOVE this type of food, and eat it regularly, so I'm very familiar with what it SHOULD taste like. I had an order of spring rolls & the Pad Se-Ew, and a watered-down ice tea. When the spring rolls arrived I was immediately surprised by the size. HUGE, yet the insides were primarily noodles. There was a very small amount of lettuce, perhaps 1/2 a leaf of an herb and what appeared to be a very small shrimp sliced in thirds. Needless to say very little flavor. The dipping sauce was fair, but appeared to have been stored in the fridge till it seemed congealed into a blob. Then the entree arrived. The Pad Se-Ew was equally disappointing. A bare minimum of Chinese broccoli and 5 tiny shrimp with a gigantic bowl of noodles. The sauce had a nice bite to it, but over all the flavor was sadly lacking. It seemed slapped together and nothing like a typical Thai dish. I could not believe that this was the place with all these great write-ups. Perhaps the chef was sick for the day, and someone else was stepping in? I even asked if it was a new guy. No....this was the regular chef. Normally what's so great about Thai & Vietnamese food is that it uses a LOT of fresh veggies & herbs. It also is known for balancing sweet, salty, spicy, sour & sometimes bitter flavors to create a very unique taste. This meal was very one dimensional. VietThai Cafe had NONE of the characteristics of true Thai. They loaded up the plates with tons of noodles, but skimped on everything that creates flavor. I would have much preferred 2 spring rolls 1/2 the size, but with real flavor. More cilantro, more basil, sliced carrots...and perhaps 2 to 3 shrimps PER roll. The Pad Se-Ew needs to be removed from their menu. If you're serving an item as an entree there needs to be a reasonable amount of the protein added to it (whether shrimp, chicken, beef, tofu...whatever). 5 tiny over-cooked shrimp does NOT an entree make! There was some egg in the mix, but frankly if I'm ordering a shrimp based entree there should be around 4oz of the item, maybe even more. The overload of noodles only made the absence of shrimp & veggies more noticeable. I kept digging around to see if any were hidden underneath the mountain of noodles. Crazy! Needless to say, I would never go back. I think it's quite difficult to run across a bad Thai restaurant, but unfortunately I have to say I finally did.

We have not had Thai for over two years because we have lived in rural Missouri. This meal left my wife and I wanting. I ordered pho and she ordered pad Thai. We felt like our dishes were missing something. She said her dish lacked that tamarind flavor and the dish was oily. The broth in my dish seemed to lack body and depth. It smelled good but it lacked saltiness acidity and spice. That said, we were greeted warmly and our server was polite. I don't think we will be back because there are a lot of options in the area.
