really like this place. i work in the area so its a convient spot if youre craving tacos. alittle pricey for what you get, but the hard shell tacos are really good. would like to see maybe a "frequent customer stamp card" or something? maybe something like make 4 purchases get your 5th one 50% off or something? just a thought. love this place though!!

Tacos El Rancho is a little counter service restaurant located in a shopping plaza off of Hoffner. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon with my husband for lunch. The first thing I noticed was that their menu is in need of a major overall. It is very confusing to read. I don't eat meat, so I was searching for some non meat choices. I decided to just go with black bean enchiladas because I couldn't really find anything else. Then I saw an additional menu on the side wall that had several more options for me. I don't know why they don't just condense it all to one wall. My husband also ordered the verde enchiladas, but he decided to get them with ground beef. We both got them as part of a meal. The meal comes with your choice of beans and rice. The enchiladas were smaller than I am used to, but there was still plenty of food. I thought they were pretty good. Weren't the best I ever had, but they were also far from the worse. The rice on the other hand wasn't something I will ever eat again. Very very bland. I felt like I needed to add a bunch of hot sauce to give it some flavor. My only other minor complaint deals with the plates they put your food on. They are really cheap paper type plates, and I made a mess of that plate while cutting into my meal. The prices are very similar to Tijuana Flats. I actually prefer Tijuana, but I would be willing to try Tacos El Rancho one more time.

Very good taco joint, each order is freshly cooked and you choose what you'd like on your order. Can't go wrong for stopping here.

Keeping up with the Taco Tuesday theme we decided to give this place a try. Ordered the taco platter which was two tacos, any type of meat I wanted, rice and my choice of beans. Let me start with this dish, YUM! I got the shredded beef and it was delish. They make all the food in front of you so I was able to pick my toppings. My b/f ordered a burrito. I have no clue what he put in it but it was HUGE! It seriously was big enough to feed a small army. lol! We also ordered the chips and guacamole and salsa. Holy Guacamole that stuff was good! Very flavorful, not just mashed up avocado. It's definitely a place that won't break your budget. Taco platter, burrito big enough to feed and army, two coronas, and chips with guac all for $24! I'll be back *said that in my head with my Arnold voice*

Very good Mexican fast food place. I think the best meat they have is the Al Pastor. It is a spicy seasoned pork. I love the Al Pastor with the soft tacos or with nachos. I prefer to eat the tacos without the cheese and sour cream so that I can taste the seasoning of the meat. It also makes the meal much healthier. I didn't like their meat(carne). It was a little bland. I highly recommend you ask for your salsa on the side. They sometimes drown your food in the salsa. And beware of the red hot sauce. Experienced veterans should only handle this!

I am a fan! Eaten here a few times and even though I don't speak Spanish and have to do a lot of pointing it's what I think most folks would call "Authentic"! Service is good, but can be slow at times. I've had mostly the Chicken (Pollo) and the Beef both are good I prefer the beef over the chicken as sometimes I think it's over marinated. Meaning it has a very strong taste to it that's a bit much for me spice wise. Other than that it's a great little hole in the wall that's open for lunch and dinner.

No No No! If I could give zero stars I would. I was in the mood for some good authentic Mexican food so following my fellow yelpers advise I gave this place a chance. This is NOT authentic Mexican food. This is a cheapened chipotle at best. Wait that maybe an insult to chipotle cause atleast their food is fresh! The beans had been sitting out so long they'd literally turned to paste. The sour cream was runny and not the correct color. The rice was terrible oh and to boot the server was rude and had the nerve to yell at us because we "answered him with an attitude" mind you I never heard him talking to us because we were paying at the time and thought he was talking to someone else. All in All this was just as bad as it gets and my frequent trips to the bathroom since we left solidifies the fact that I will NOT be back!!!

Coming from Cali, I have high expectations on Mexican Food. But, this place wasn't too bad. Pricing - was a bit steep. Taco's shouldn't be more than $2 and Burritos shouldn't be more than $6. Environment - seemed fake, not authentic. But it was clean. Customer service - Mild. All you do is go up and order and then you pay. Also, they don't give out free chips. I think all mexican restaurants big or small should give out free chips and salsa. FOOD - The Burrito tasted better than it looked. I had the whole works. I just wish they included the dang chips. oh well. I think this place can definitely give you your burrito fix. But, it's definitely not the best mexican spot in Orlando. For this - 3 stars overall!

We love Tacos El Rancho and eat there often. Its as close as real Mexican gets in Orlando. I usually get their taco platter but everything I have eaten there is good. You MUST get the guacamole!!! Its delicious!!

  • Marilyn T.

Do yourself a favor and have the Quesadilla de Lengua (Cow Tongue Quesadilla). Tacos El Rancho marinates their meat well for a tender, juicy quesadilla. The quesadillas are super-large, so if you order a side a chips with guacamole, expect to take home a few left-overs. Also, don't be afraid to make it a spicy quesadilla -- their spicy is actually more mild -- and order a refreshing Jamaica (Hibiscus Iced Tea). Between a choice of the nearby Chipotle and Taco Bell, Tacos El Rancho wins out with its authentic, fresh Mexican every time. (Full review on my blog.)

This a great little place if you're craving Mexican at lunch time. I had the green enchiladas which come with a tomatillo sauce that is very good. All the ingredients were fresh and the marinated chicken has a nice kick to it, but won't light your mouth on fire. It is counter service but is very quick even during the lunch rush.

This place is the closest I have found in Orlando to the authentic Mexican takeout places that are everywhere in California. The people behind the counter are always friendly and pleasant. I usually get the green chicken enchiladas. You can either get 2 enchiladas with rice and beans or 3 enchiladas. I usually just get the enchiladas. They are freshly made on the grill in front of you, with corn tortillas freshly fried with already seasoned and cooked chicken put inside then smothered with delicious and spicy green sauce. You ha e the option of all the toppings, including actual hot salsa. Delicious. I highly recommend this place for all your authentic Mexican takeout needs. The only critique is that I would like the chicken to be more flavorful on it's own without the sauce.

File this under, "One of those places that I have passed by a million times but never stopped in and I could've been enjoying their food all this time". Tacos El Rancho is on the corner of a Publix shopping plaza, next to a Japanese restaurant, also that I have never tried (maybe it's time to explore this part of my neighborhood?). I stopped in on a Tuesday night in search of a late dinner. I was planning to just hit the McDonald's drive through, but remembered this place is in the same plaza and decided to try it out. The good news, I will be back for more. The bad news for my waistline, I will be back for more. I ordered the gold chimichanga, which is a chimichanga covered in queso with your choice of meat and beans and toppings. I choose chicken and black beans, and opted for everything offered- rice, tomatoes, onion, cheese, jalapenos, and sour cream. This is a counter-service establishment, so your meal is built right in front of you, but I wasn't really paying attention. While I was waiting, a family with two teenage sons came in, and they each ordered the children's sized chimichangas. I thought this was odd, as I grew up with brothers and know how much they can eat. And then I received my take out box, which weighed a lot, and then I understood. The whole drive home I wanted to dig in at every red light, as my car smelled delicious. But I refrained, as I am a messy eater when not in the car. I got home and opened the box and holy heck, this was a lot of food! I was able to eat the chimichanga for dinner and lunch the next day. Not bad for $10.00! I am excited to go back soon and see what else they have to offer.

Enjoyed our first visit to Tacos El Rancho. It's not fanc, but the food is good. You order at the counter and get your own drinks. We had the nachos and white queso, the nachos had a hint of lime and the white queso was excellent. (I wish I had gotten more than the small ramekin!) The hubs had chicken enchiladas with verde sauce and a chicken soft taco. I had a steak taco. Lots of meat and double corn tortillas. A customer a few tables over ordered a regular burrito that looked like the size of a brick! It was huge! Apparently they come even larger - whoa! We'll definitely go back to try some other dishes. Prices are good and they seem to stay busy. I would definitely recommend checking them out.

DO NOT come here if you're expecting a 30 second to-go order Taco Bell style. This is not that kind of place! tacos el rancho is a tiny, Mexican "Fonda" that serves up popular staples such as tacos, burritos, tamales, and they are made to order. Meaning? UBER fresh, savory, and authentic! There is decent seating available if you'd like to dine in, and prices are roughly about $10 per person more or less, depending on what your order may be (beverage included!)

Overall: 4 stars Food: 4 stars Service 4 stars Value: 3 stars Atmosphere: 3 stars Will I be back? If I'm back in the area, definitely. I was in Orlando last week and needed a place to eat. Looked on yelp and found El Rancho. Asked the counter guy what to get. He was very helpful. Ended up being unadventurous and ordering 3 tacos, chips & quac. Tacos were excellent, meat was grilled excellently and flavored well. Toppings were generous. Chips were just "ok", and guac was also just ok. But the tacos made up for that. I found the place a little expensive. But what do I know? :-) Place was very clean, including restrooms. Layout was fast-food style. I went off-hours, so it wasn't crowded or noisy. will I be back? If I'm there, definitely.

Our first time to this local chain, just 3 in the area so it still feels mom and pop. The interior is modest but comfortable. We got 3 tacos ($7.19) with Asada, Shredded Beef and Pastor. You get your choice of toppings. Pretty fair delivery. We walked out satisfied but I prefer Chilitos off Semoran.

A good place for authentic burritos. I give it three stars because: what kind of Mexican place doesn't have jalapeños? They do have tapatio though. Authentic decor, but it could use an upgrade. Staff is always friendly and the prices aren't too bad, but they should give you free chips!

First, not true Mexican food. It's Americanized but that's ok. The tacos are always good, the burrito is a MONSTER! I like this place but the young people behind the counter can only be described as "dum dums" I hate saying it but they are clueless. The place is cute and clean and bright inside. It's a good inexpensive place to have lunch.

I always get the chorizo tacos with everything on soft, flour shells. Takes me back to a my youth growing up in Texas each and every time. Love this place. Plus, their horchata is excellent.

Coming from Los Angeles, this food was mediocre. My refried beans & rice tasted like what was served in my middle school cafeterias. The carne asada taco meat was dry & hard. Tortilla soup had an odd, distasteful seafood flavor. 3 stars for the portions, which matched the price & friendly workers who also let us sample one of the meats. If you're ever in the SoCal area, I highly suggest El Gallito; best authentic Mexican food for cheap.

The food was just ok. The staff was just ok. They melted the cheese in the microwave on styrofoam plates, so I'm afraid the melted parts of the were in my food. We won't be back.

I used to work right next to the airport so we always came here to eat for lunch and I happened to be back in the area and remembered to come back and I am glad we did. This is not a restaurant is more like a fast food Mexican place, but everything is cooked and prepared right there behind the counter and you can see it. I got the chicken tacos and my fiancé got the chicken quesadillas. We were both very pleased with the flavor and the portion of food was just right. I also got the Horchata drink that they have and I would not recommend it.... its way too sweet!

I love their tacos and the golden chimichunga. They also have juice drinks that you don't see anywhere else.

Small little place on the corner. Unless you're looking for it you'd probably drive right passed it. Overall the food is good. Everything is served warm and made to order. Staff is friendly enough considering they're cooking and cleaning all day. Seating is good...enough room for a small crowd with booths and tables. They do sell beer as well as sodas and homemade juices. I got a burrito this time and it was HUGE. I've had big burritos before in other cities but this one was big. Delicious and big. The Hibiscus Tea was delicious! I try not to drink soda too often so the teas and juices were a great option. Decor is simple with mexican inspired decorations and music playing (from actual mexican artists not the cap you hear on the radio). Nothing extra fancy visually. The big plus to this place is the food. Definitely worth trying. Better than the big "mexican" chains and a lot less crowded.

This was a pleasant surprise! The food was fresh and tasty! It wasn't quite hot enough for me - don't let this blonde hair fool you, I like some spice. I def want to come back and try some other menu items!

Okay, first let me set this up: This review is strictly of their tamales, rice and beans. In preparation for my father-in-laws birthday we wanted to get some take out tamales for him. He has limited mobility and this is one of his favorite foods. But, we wanted to be sure we were getting tamales that he would like and could comfortably eat since he can't handle anything too spicy. So, I went to three local mexican restaurants that have tamales and picked some up along with rice and beans to do a taste test. I got tamales from Garibaldi, from La Fiesta and from Tacos El Rancho. So, on with the review. I gave three stars, one for the beans, which were good, one for great service and one just because I haven't had any of their other food for a while and I didn't want to be too harsh just based on one menu item. The beans were good, a decent texture and nice flavor. The rice was not so good, it was just some very plain rice with very little flavor and some peas.. The service was very friendly and they are the only one of the three that offer tamales in chicken and cheese varieties along with pork. In fact, they were out of the pork when I was there. So, I got one chicken and one of the cheese to try. Also, the very nice fellow behind the counter gave me a taste of their pork by itself which he thought was the same as what they put in the tamales and it was outstanding. Finally, the tamales themselves: the red sauce and cheese were nowhere to be found, so they were quite dry. The Tamales had a nice masa outer shell (in fact probably the best shell of all of them) but WAY too much of it relative to the amount of filling and I found myself throwing away a good portion of it. They did not include any chips and salsa although they did ask what topping I wanted and the "red sauce" I requested was put on the side but was an EXTREMELY spicy hot sauce with a lot of red pepper seeds, way too strong even for me. I will definitely be back for some of their pork, but probably not the tamales. Sorry Tacos El Rancho but we won't be back for tamales. We do need to go back and try some of their other cuisine again, especially for the pork and great service.

I eat at both locations pretty regularly and I have to say, the quality of food across both of them is solid. I don't find one to be better than the other. The biggest difference is at this Hoffner location the toppings and food is made on the line in front of you, whereas the Chickasaw location is made in the back. Below you'll find my review from the Chickasaw restaurant, it all applies here as well. Love this place! I have never had authentic Mexican food from Mexico, so of that is what you're looking for - try another review. I have eaten at a ton of Mexican restaurants around Orlando though and can say Tacos El Rancho is my favorite by far. I always get the Golden Chimichanga, it is a huge chimi stuffed with rice beans and meat, fried golden and then smothered in queso. I typically get ground beef but the chicken and pork are good as well. They have more traditional options like beef tongue, tinga, pastor, and chorizo as well. I have had the chorizo in tacos before and enjoyed it. The chimi once cooked is covered in six toppings, tomatoes, cilantro, sour cream, shredded cheese, onions, and hot (red) or medium salsa (green). These toppings go on every item - you just tell them what you want. On a side note I do like that they use diced yellow onions rather than julienne style onions. The red is my favorite but recently they added a ranchero salsa with grilled onions in it. I found it to be a nice medium between the hot and the mild salsa. The service is quick and always courteous. They had some coupons on their website last time I checked so definitely give it a look before coming for the first time!

This place ROCKS! it's a dive but the food is awesome. Authentic Mexican and the salsa and guacamole are both fresh and delicious. Also they have lengua, one of my favorites. I highly recommend this place. It's super clean also.

Great tacos. Salsa is also very good and spicy. A great alternative to and in some ways better than Tijuana Flats. I like that you can get cilantro on your tacos (a minor detail but nice). They also fill them to the brim. They could give you more salsa or offer a large salsa option. Overall a great find and only a minute a way from Skyhouse Apartments. I am pretty addicted to this place.

Very good! I've had plenty of dishes here and ALL OF THEM WERE GREAT! My wife and I are definitely fans of this place! They are a little "short" when comes to giving you cheese.....lol (so you better bring your own) They actually get a little "miffed" about requesting extra, lmfao.... But its great food! Spicy shredded beef is so great here!

Ate here a couple of weeks ago. Was not expecting a fast food type setting but got over that quickly as the food was very good. The guacamole was delicious and I had a beef chimichanga which was large and very good. Would go back for sure.

This place is awful. The service was terrible because they "ran out of chicken" and the food was just awful. I went here because of the reviews, but that was a huge mistake. Never ever again.

I've been wanting to try Tacos El Rancho since I started working in the area in April so I finally went there today and was a little bummed out. My number one complaint is that you have to pay for chips and salsa. In my opinion, chips and salsa should be included in your meal at Mexican restaurants. Their chips are good, though - I'll give them that. As someone else mentioned, their menu is disorganized and confusing. Only after I ordered did I notice that there's a whole 2nd part of the menu on an adjacent wall to the main one. Had I seen that to begin with, I probably would have gotten a chimichanga. Their prices aren't great either. I got the shrimp quesadilla and with the chips and salsa (no drink), my total was over $10. The quesadilla was big and stuffed with lots of cheese so that's a bonus; however, there weren't a lot of shrimp and they didn't seem to be seasoned. Not sure I'll go back to try anything else.

I'm from CA so my expectations for authentic mexican eats is very high. I ordered the carnitas nachos and the portion is pretty huge and the taste.. Better than what Ive expected. Too bad they charge $1.50 for guacamole because it's "homemade".. tried the burritos and enchiladas.. Nay for me. Def go back and try their other eats on the menu..the other plus is that its close to where I live. LOVE their cinnamon rice horchata drink!

BEST BURRITO IN TOWN!!! This hole in the wall puts together some awesome food. I've had the burrito multiple times and it's amazing. The meat is sooo flavorful. I've had carnitas and chorizo sausage. It's sooo good. Also, the quesadilla is huge. They do it right. The salsa is also very fresh but comes in an awkward container. Still really really good.

I must say I have frequented this place more than my Yelp check-ins show. For awhile, it's been almost weekly. It's a great place to stop for a quick Mexican fix, especially if you're not into chain restaurants. It actually reminds me of the homemade food I used to get when I lived in Texas. The burritos and quesadillas are huge - plan on taking home leftovers. I usually get a couple of chicken tacos, which are pretty reasonably priced, and a side of guacamole, which is great. The menu can be a little confusing, but if you take a minute and look around the whole area, you can see that it has a good variety of choices. They just added flautas to their menu, and I can't wait to try them.

I took my son here this evening for dinner and I was a little disappointed. Mexico Lindo opened a bit ago within a couple of miles of this place and we should have gone there instead. My biggest complaint about this place is that the menu is disorganized and hard to understand; the additions taped to the menu board and near the cash register and the assembly station do not help. When I am at a place like this I want to know how many of whatever item I am getting (3 tacos, 2 enchiladas, etc), what it comes with, such as: nothing, chips, rice and beans, drink, etc, then how much it is to add one or more of these items (plain with chips is $XX.XX, with rice, beans, and a drink it is $XX.XX). Also a list of the ingredients you can choose from for your taco or burrito instead of just being asked "what do you want on it?" in front of the register without any idea of what the options are. Our meal was a fish taco platter (rice and beans), chips, guacamole, and a kid's enchilada with 2 very small tap waters (would have gotten iced tea but they didn't have it) and came to just shy of $17.00. I know fish tacos are normally a little more expensive than the regular ones but for a few dollars more we could have gone to a restaurant that brought out our food and served on real plates with real flatware, not plastic, paper, and styrofoam. I had to walk back and fourth from the table to the counter a number of times to get each item we ordered, plastic ware, answer questions about the order after we had placed it, etc, it was about 5 times total. I also think it would be good to list if their black beans are vegetarian or make a vegetarian version and have a vegetarian option on all menu items. Now, there are a few reason why I gave it three stars. One, the fish was incredible. The spices were perfect and the fish was well-cooked and great in the tacos. I would recommend that to anyone that was going to eat here. Two, the cashier switched the kids taco for an enchilada without any problems. I think $4.50 is very expensive for 1 small cheese enchilada, rice, and beans, no drink, but I like it when a restaurant is accomodating. Three, the rice with the peas in it was really good. Four, the guacamole was very good. It had a nice texture, purple onions, and fresh cilantro which made a very good mixture. Honestly, if I return I'll probably just get one fish taco and a side of guacamole. Maybe try the flan. Summary: Food tastes good but the restaurant is not worth the price.

After reading several of the reviews on this site, I decided to visit Tacos El Rancho for lunch and give it a try since I was craving for some nachos. As soon as I entered, I could see where the other members were talking about with the menu board being overwhelming (all over the place). But since I knew what I wanted already, it wasn't an issue for me. I ordered the Steak Nachos and Chips & Guacamole. Service was very quick and the preparer was friendly. Now when it comes down to the food all I have to say is Mediocre. The ingredients were very bland and lackluster but luckily their salsa and guacamole is awesome but I can't really say that it makes up for it. I don't know if I'll be returning back to Tacos El Rancho because I was really expecting more by the look of the ratings and reviews on here. For the $10 bucks I paid for my meal I'd rather go elsewhere.

We gave them a try today. Yes, their menu definitely needs a makeover. I almost missed the fact that they had fish tacos. I ordered a couple of them, my veggie daughter ordered two bean tacos, my other daughter ordered the chicken enchiladas and her boyfriend got a steak burrito, which was huge. Also ordered the chips and queso. The fish tacos had a grilled fish fillet in each one. That is more generous than your typical restaurant that gives you tiny pieces of fish and calls it a taco. You can get what you want from their limited toppings. I wanted them hot, but the sauce wasn't particularly spicy for my tastes. They put guac on the bean tacos, which I also wanted, but they wouldn't put it on mine for free, and since I already paid it was too much of a hassle to ring it up. Everyone enjoyed their food. We also treated ourselves to coca cola with sugar instead of HFCS. I don't understand why Coke doesn't go back to real sugar, but that is a rant for another day. One of my daughters ordered the horschata. I took a sip, even though it was good, it was way too sweet for my taste. The prices are comparable to places such as Tijuana Flats and Chipotle. I would definitely go back.

Before moving to LA from Orlando, I was never a Mexican food fan. Now upon moving back to Orlando I have since become one. And I have been missing this authentic cuisine for some time now. Garibaldi's - mediocre at best Taco Bell - hell no Chipotle - so so Tijuana Flats - forget about it Baja - Mmmm, not so much ...and the list goes on. Today I've found Tacos El Rancho and I'm happy to say (so far) that it's closer to the real deal than most other places I've tried. Simple, fresh food in an environment that is also simple and very clean. Great service too. No margaritas, but they do have a small beer selection, really good guacamole and salsa. I had carnitas tacos and it was pretty tasty. Looking forward to going back and trying some more off their menu. Until next time, eat drink and be merry! Tiphanie

Most days on the way home from work I literally have to steer my truck away from this restaurant. Otherwise I'd eat there all the time. I've been coming here since they opened about 5 years ago. I always order the same thing. The cashier knows my order and always asks if I want the Carne Asada soft taco, chips, guacamole and a small coke NO ICE to go. I always get everything on my taco plus mild and hot sauce. The flavors mingled together are awesome. They fry their own chips so they are scooped up salted and warmed into a paper sack. Guac is made fresh everday. My friends have ordered their burritos and always take home leftovers. While it's not fancy, it does great business. I have been know to wait outside for them to open on a Saturday after working all night! I traveled around the 48 a bit and to California way more than I can count. This ranks right up there with the fresh Mex you can only find in Cali. I used to order off the Cali roadside food trucks. Nice mexican ladies dishing up real from scatch mexican food. Taco El Ranchos food is very similar.

This place is great. Fresh foods, lots of cilantro and spices used. The guacamole, queso, horchata, and tamarindo are all amazing. I have only had the chicken as far as meats, but it is very good. They are also very friendly and provide great customer service. I am fortunate to live so close.

We don't have a lot of ethnic options in Conway... Welcome to Tacos El Rancho! With new ownership, this place is actually trying to create an atmosphere. Previously it looked like a hospital room, but now it's got colorful knickknacks everywhere and some plants and a TV. W00t! The food is more authentic than places like Chipotle or T Flats. It's not too bad, but I've definitely had better. My chicken burrito was enormous! Maybe size matters to you? It seems like a clean establishment so that's a bonus I s'ppose. I'll go back someday.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
