Our first visit to Shiso was last night (Saturday). We missed the happy hour (got there five minutes before 7). The place was crowded (which I take as a good sign) but we were immediately greeted and seated. We started with house salads and miso soup. The ginger dressing was good but the miso was so flavorful and tasty. We ordered a philadelphia roll, super crunch spicy tuna roll, and rainbow roll. The rainbow roll was pretty tasteless, but the super crunch spicy tuna was delicious! It was the right amount of spicy. The philadelphia roll was also very good. The good things: Specialty rolls were $1 to $3 cheaper than other sushi places. Miso soup is great Everything tasted fresh Service was good - we got drink refills without asking and our server was attentive even though they were busy The not-so-good things: The rolls are pretty big. I wish they were sliced in more manageable portions The fish was not cold; it was room temperature. This is probably just a personal preference, but I like my raw fish to be at a lower (cooler) temperature I think we will give it another chance; I would like to try their hibachi items.

This was a very nice surprise. The sushi was very good and reasonably priced. My boyfriend and I had 2 rolls each plus appetizers for about $50. It was fresh and a lovely balance of flavors, the service was very good. Attentive without being pushy. We will go again.

The portions are large, fresh and very reasonably priced. My waitress was quick, attentive and cute. I loved this place and will return soon.

This used to be one of my favorite places to go until it was sold by the original owner. Now the portions are small, the quality has dropped and the staff isn't so friendly. What a loss to our great neighborhood.

Happy hour is a great, inexpensive way to get some good shushi. I have been here many times before and most of the time the service is lacking, to say the least, however we keep coming back for the food. The past few times we have returned the service has been better and hopefully its on te rise. Great place to eat shushi and I definitely recommend!

I've been to Shiso a few times, and I am not impressed. The food does not seem very fresh in comparison to other sushi restaurants in the area. I have not been impressed with their food quality. I get take-out normally, but have decided not to go back and I'll go to other sushi restaruants with fresher sushi. They have small portions, I don't think they use high quality fish, and it's always a disappointment.

Great prices for sushi, lunch is a good deal too - comes with miso and salad! I started with the basics, cali - philly- spider. Not impressed. You need water to stomach that rice, it is so glutinous. Sushi rice isn't grainy or soft, it certainly isn't the same rice you would eat with a meal. I think the rice killed it here and the fact that each piece was huge. More is not better. The fillings were also jumbo sized - too much cream cheese, quarter wedge cucumbers and imitation crab stick rolled in, unripened avocado... this place has potential and I will say the decor is cute.

I have been to this spot and I am never disappointed. The service is great and for the Price its an awesome spot to eat at. Must try!!

Great sushi and happy hour deal! Mm can't beat $2 dollar sushi. I found this place trying to go to Chick-filet on a Sunday but they were closed. I decided to check it out and grabbed to-go. Unfortunately, there were busy so that is a sign that they are good. The next day I went with my roommate to check it out. We loved it and it was great. Service is a bit slow but the food was worth it. We will be back. Cute and casual place hidden in a corner!! Dinner time would be a bit pricey but we may go back and try other things!

Family owned, consistent, nice quiet place, small but tastefully decorated. I love the happy hour menu for my sushi fix. I can almost eat my weight in mackerel, sooooo good! The yumi yumi roll is just that. The spicy tuna and salmon rolls are great. I could just go on and on. My only issue with shiso sushi is that the dinner menu portions can be a bit inconsistent. Overall, this place is just great. In my opinion it's a hidden gem.

The $2 rolls are awesome and the food is fresh and tasty. The staff is friendly. Very nice place to take your family. LOVE IT!!!

I have been here a few times, and every time I go, it seems to be the same problem. Not fresh at all. Service is slow. And presentation is very basic. They also do not serve a lot of food. And prices are not that cheap either. It's just not worth it.

Mmmm first time here. Not the best sushi I've had but not the absolute worst. Service sucked though

I've been here close to every other week. The happy hour (5 to 7pm) prices is perfect for a sushi lover's budget. Regular rolls are $2, speciality rolls are $2.50. Appetizers are $2-3. The size of the rolls are not small just because the price is cut. Four people ate for $35 and had left over sushi. Good atmosphere but only recommendation would be to come early as it gets crowded around 6-7pm.

This review is only for takeout. The rolls were tasty and fresh. They had some interesting combinations! The Happy hour looks to be a good deal as well! There are soo many other Sushi places in this area that are remarkable so this will be a stop for me only If am right in the area and need a really quick fix on the fly.

Shiso Sushi is a great, filling meal for happy hour! Every visit, I enjoy great food and friendly staff. Try the Monster Roll, and the Shumai are spiced perfectly!

The chefs are super nice and great at what they do but the service of the server was horrible.. Didn't know the menu and was very rude food was good server only came by once and another time for the check. I gave them 3 stars for the chef and the restaurant -1 star for the service and -1 star for the server

I'm not a sushi person but I decided to go because they had happy hour where the regular rolls were $2 and specialty rolls were $2.50. So I figured for $2 a pop I might as well go try it since I wouldn't be losing much if I didn't like it. And I wasn't expecting much since I figured the price was cheap so the food might not be all that good but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered about 6 different rolls and an arnold Palmer and between two people it came out to about $19 plus tip. So believe me when I say it was an enjoyable experience and I will definitely be back to try a couple other rolls. Also I think they extended the happy hour from 5-7 to 3-7 because I was there a little after 3 and they already had the happy hour menus out. So if your new to the sushi scene and want to try it out it is definitely a place to go.

We used to love this place and go weekly but they have a new owner that changed their menu and quality of their food and service. The food now is mediocre.... I am not going back!!!

We happened upon this spot when trying to decide what to eat and we were not disappointed. We've been back twice, but have done take out each time. The atmosphere is really nice...I'd actually love to stay and eat next time. It's quiet and quaint. The miso soup is excellent and last night we mistakenly ordered two rock and rolls. I was surprised it was soooo good! The rice is fresh and the menu items are all very, very good. This will be a locat favorite.

We are huge happy hour people and found this little gem. Super great deals. Discounted wine and beer, plus $2-3 rolls. The rolls are only 4 pieces so you can try a couple different types. Would definitely come back.

I have come here several times during lunch with my coworkers. It's pretty hidden away, since it is in a small shopping plaza behind a Chick-Fil-A and a Ruby Tuesday. The place is clean, and it can be hit or miss as far as being busy during lunch. Lunch is a great time to go as far as their lunch specials. You can order 2 sushi rolls from a good selection for $8.95, and for 3 rolls I believe it's under $12. Their service is something that this restaurant can do so much better. There's typically only one server up front, and depending how busy it is - you could be waiting a while to get your food and check. Overall, not bad for a lunch spot. However, when I'm out on date night with my hubby or having dinner with the girlfriends, this place will not be my top choice - as there are a few other places that top it by food quality, service, and location.

This cute sushi spot is close to our house and in a search for dinner one night we thought we would try it. I'm not a huge sushi fan but I do enjoy hibachi which they also have. The food was great, along with the price. We've become frequent visitors. They have a great sushi happy hour from 5-7pm. The service can be a little slow but not slow enough to irritate,

3.5 stars-WORTH THE TRIP TO SOUTH OBT! Happy hour 7 days a week? From 3pm-7pm. You just can NOT go wrong. Period. My favorite thing in the world is the Philadelphia Roll. I'm simple. But I always order something new every time I go (which is often) because at the Happy Hour prices you can't go wrong. For non eating sushi people: YOU MUST TRY THE SHRIMP FRIED RICE. It's like no other fried rice. Big chunks of shrimp. Not chintzy at all. Of course, I have to have an order of edamame and a house salad w/ ginger dressing before my sushi. All in all, without liquor (just sodas) 2 people always leave full for about $22. A-OK in my book! Oh! I almost forgot....the dessert. First time I had the fried cheesecake and ice cream I thought I died and went to heaven. Then I ordered it again. Tasted old/fried/freezer burnt in a weird way. Tried it again, then even tried the fried banana dessert. I won't order dessert there again but definitely worth it for the sushi and the service is great too!

$2 Sushi. THAT IS ALL. No but really! You HAVE to go to their happy hour which goes from 2p.m - 7p.m. if I am not mistaken. The service has gotten better, which is why I am giving it 4 stars. They are kind of located in the middle of nowhere but it is worth the drive. I also find the interior to be SUPER cute.

They have lunch special until 3pm that comes w soup AND salad. and then from 3 to 7pm they have happy hour $2 and $2.50 sushi! Price are way too cheap for the good quality of the food. Loooovvvve the monster and volcano roll! Also, I was really amazed because they only have one server in the morning and that server could handle everything by herself including the phone. She was quick and fast. Drink was always refilled. So yeah service was great, and food is great too!

If you are a sushi fanatic that doesn't mind dining in the same plaza as Home Depot, this is your spot for great food with great happy hour pricings. Sushi can be expensive and there are several out there offering happy hour specials. Nothing tops the prices here along with the variety of their happy hour menu. And portions aren't cut like prices are fortunately. They've got your regular rolls to some speciality ones. I had dinner with four people and spent $50 with leftovers to bring home. Every one was stuffed. Been going back for over two years now. Gotta check it out if you love sushi and a good deal.

Went this week, first time back in awhile. It was a nice quiet lunch for Mommy and I. We got the $2-$2.50 sushi. 4 piece for that price. Also tried the veg tempura. Service was quicker than my last review ,not as busy during the day around 3pm during the week. In a kind of funky plaza by Home Depot. Dark windows, lit well on the inside though. Nothing fabulous as far as decor . Food was decent. I wish they offered a Bento Box for lunch.

Always have a good experience here! Can't beat the prices for happy hour from 3-7pm the yummy yummy roll is so good! Along with the Mexican roll! Worth the trip! I really love this place it's local and just a simple great place. It gets really busy sometimes so I would call ahead to see how long the wait is.

PERFECT!!! I don't eat sushi, but their vegetable tempura, veggie spring roll, crab rangoon and the gyoza (don't know how to write it) are AMAZING!!! Wish it was closer so I could go all the time!

It was memorable. As in I'll remember not to go there. I hope I don't get sick from this place. Salmon was mushy. Rice was meh. Not sure about this one.

My second time being here and I love the sushi! I also love how chill it is here, no big parties making everybody want to leave, just chill and great Japanese food. Try their krab ragoons too, amazinnngggg

Usually come here for the cheap happy hour (2.50) selection of rolls which is amazing. The krab ragoons is definitely the best! I've never had them anywhere else that taste as good as this. The service is usually okay.

I wouldn't give any stars to this place. 7 months ago I would swear that it's the best deal for your Buck on OBT but after yesterday's experience I will never go there again. The minute you walk in your nose Burns with the awful smell of vinegar, they prepare their "sticky rice" in the dining room. My friend and I shared a Love Boat for Two that comes with two miso soups and two house salads. The soups had zero tofu and were cold. Salad had ONE cucumber that was mushy and disgusting. Once the boat arrived it smelled of spoiled fish, one bite, two bites and it was over. Old fish and nasty taste. 4 hours Later I got violently sick with fever and vomiting. Please folks stay away from that place. I will contact the health department because there's definitely an issue that can hurt any human

I got sick after eating here :( I was skeptical about this place from the beginning just due to the location and lack of people dining during lunch time. The only thing I had was the lunch special sushi, which came with miso soup, a small salad, sashimi, and california rolls. The only part of it that was actually good was the miso soup. The salad wasn't a salad. It literally was the lettuce that you see in a burger, with a large tomato slice that you would see in a burger! I had a hard time eating that. It was topped with this strange sauce. The sashimi was okay, there were two salmon, white tuna, yellowtail, and I can't remember what else. The rice underneath the fish didn't taste good! Didn't taste like normal sushi rice. Plus there was no little dab was wasabi like there normally is! What?? The california rolls were so bad. The crab meat was left just as a big chunk, which I had never seen before in these rolls. The rice, again, didn't taste good. Overall I had to just force it down to eat something. I shouldn't have done it, though, since I got sick after eating here. Avoid!

Shiso Sushi probably pays their electric bill with just my money as often as I go there. I LOVE this place. I didn't even like sushi before some friends of ours turned us on to this place. Now I go 1-3 times a week lol. The Monster Roll is fantastic if you don't know what to order. It's a shrimp tempura roll with avocado and cream cheese, topped with tempura crab, eel sauce and clear sauce. It's sooooo good! The crab rangoon is also extremely delicious and has spoiled me as all others seem to pale in comparison. Like others here mentioned, the lunch special is a great deal as it comes with salad, soup, and a great discount on whatever rolls you order. I would also like to say that I really enjoy the staff who are super sweet and always remember my order :p

Okay, im a little on the uneasy side of giving 4 stars cause I want to give 5 but let me explain....ok so the total bill was 97 bucks for 4 adults and one adolescent. The prices are for each ...my dumbass though it was one price for unlimted like in jersey. Nope lol okay thats my fault. The inside was nice but what confused me was the banner for a football event at the resturant and its location in a mall strip...now the food is 5 stars large pieces of nigre. The house wine was decent and the waitress knew I wanted merlot nice...heres what dropped it a star the two old tvs and the one good tv had j lo and iggy azalia shaking there ass (since they have no talent) on tv on fuse channel...lol anyways it was good give it a try and post ur thoughts.

I should have listened to Shelley's review, but my friend said she had been here before without any issues. From 5 P.M. - 7 P.M., there is a happy hour menu, which isn't too bad. Our server was relatively attentive, so I didn't count this place out. We tried the Krab Rangoon, which comes with about 6 pieces. They were actually pretty tasty and affordable. I believe they are on the happy hour menu. My friend ordered them for the table. I also had a bowl of their miso soup, and it was good. There wasn't much tofu or seaweed in it. Then came the sushi... I ordered the Spicy Tuna roll and the JB (Japanese Bagel) roll. My friend had the Avocado roll and the Spicy Tuna roll. Maybe if I had ordered the Avocado roll I would have been spared a severe upset stomach. The food was fine. Nothing memorable. But I had a horrible upset stomach that I never usually get from eating sushi. That being said, the prices were REALLY affordable during their happy hour. Even glancing at their regular menu, the prices were pretty cheap. But those prices won't bring me back. I'm going to steer clear of Shiso Sushi. Dine at your own risk.

This is my favorite local sushi spot, and my husband loves it too. Their sushi is delicious! The happy hour prices are pretty reasonable. Their fried rice is one of the best i have ever eaten personally. I give it 4 stars because the service is a little slow, but nothing that would keep me from going back. I tried their gyoza once, but didnt like it. It was overcooked i think. I would not eat it here again. I dont know about the rest of the food, i have never tried it. But if you are looking for good sushi and fried rice, this is the place to go.

As many times as I come here ( I don't always remember to check in) but today was horrible service. I had wait for ever for refills, my son had his food first, he was almost done eating when my husband and I finally received our sushi rolls. On the same plate!!!! We told the waitress it was separate orders (which she knew) and she asked if we wanted her to separate it on a separate plate? And she was looking at us, as we were asking for something uncommon. We said never mind and use one of my son's plate since he was done eating. I'm very disappointed with this place's service. It's not that big to have us waiting that long for food and refills. Had asked for napkins that never arrived.

This is by far my favorite restaurant when I'm craving sushi. The variety of rolls that Seito offers is very appealing. If you go you have to try the Hadouken roll and ask for Courtnee.

  • Nicole G.

Been here twice now. I really like their happy hour specials, a great way to get a variety of sushi on a ridiculously cheap meal deal! My problem is the hibachi. Again, great prices but there seems to be inconsistencies in the temperature they serve the food. The main course comes with your choice of meat and fried rice. The fried rice is served piping hot and the meat is room temperature. That makes me concerned if they made it fresh or not. One of the people who I went with had to send his filet mignon back twice because it kept coming out cold. Once they fix that, I'll be coming back all the time!
