the guacamole is very good. Both of our entree were very good as well.. it is always dead in there, which is strange because the prices are fair and the food is very good. I had the shrimp and plantains and my wife had fajitas.

Wow came here for Sunday brunch and the food was so delecious! We normally go to Briar Patch and this was as good or better! The huevos motulenos was excellent! Ive been here before for drinks and they amazing margaritas. Not to mention the free flan I am getting for chevking in--I haven't tried it but I'm sure it will be great. Definitely gourmet Mexican!

This place has really great food if you are a Mexican food fan like I am! My wife and I went here for Christmas Eve, and they had full service at that time, great food, service was a little slow, but the food made up for it. The empanadas are to die for (lobster ones)!, the Enchiladas Suizas are super yummy! The prices are a little higher than normal, but you don't have to order the specialty items to get good food. We split the majority of our food and ordered a few beers, and were content!

Paxia's a great concept: traditional Mexican cuisine, but updated with a contemporary (if spare) atmosphere and fantastic service. In fact, if I were basing this review solely on the service and interior design, Paxia would merit four or five stars. Unfortunately, the food is only so-so, and it is rather expensive for what you get. My companion ordered the enchilada combo, and while there was nothing offensive about them, there was nothing that stood out as amazing, either. The meat was fine, the tortillas were fine, and the veggies were fine. I went for the basic hard tacos, and even though the ingredients were quite fresh, they were tiny and slightly bland. One of the best features of Paxia is the bar, which occupies about half the total size of the establishment. It looks to have a relaxed atmosphere and is the perfect place for a happy hour (or later) drink with friends. I know the types of food are not exactly comparable, but with Orlando-based Tijuana Flats dominating the local Tex-Mex scene, I can find little reason to dine at Paxia instead, unless you're just looking for a more upscale dining experience.

We have been here several times in the past. Right in the heart of College Park. Nice atmosphere, clean and friendly service. Food is great! We like to go for lunch time. Thumbs up.

Food is terrific. I wish the margaritas were not made with mix and I think the wall in the middle of the dining room is an aesthetic issue. In the past we've had odd service, but the last two times we've had the same server (male, about 24, mustache) and he's one of the best! Food here is yummy.

I have to say we walked out. So the review is not about the food. I have never tasted it. What I can say is that for a Mexican restaurant, they are trying to be a bit to fancy. Only two options for a glass of wine at $9 & $10. That is a bit steep for a Mexican restaurant. Also the menu was small, not much selection and not one item had a description of what the item was. 3 salads, no description to tell you anything about any of them. Again, for Mexican, it is a bit pretentious. I was not up for it. We walked.

This place was ok - but there's far better Mexican in Orlando than this. Still, given walking distance to my brother's house and it's proximity to Scruffy's means that it's a good place to grab dinner if you're not overly concerned with your meal. Decor is fine -- nothing fancy, but nice in a way that you don't want to drop food on the floor when you overfill your chip with salsa. Service here was attentive and prompt. However, the food was sub-par. I ordered a chili relleno filled with cheese. It arrived, with the shredded cheese bits still visible, as if it hadn't cooked long enough. There was no flavor - even with the pepper One of my dinner companions ordered the vegetable fajitas which were delicious and flavorful, but overall, I'd say the food itself was eh.

I thought you couldn't go wrong at a Mexican restaurant. As a Hispanic I am extremely pissed off. No I am not Mexican! My bf and I walked in. We weren't dressed up fancy, and I am glad we didn't. The decorations are extremely nice and looks up scale. Don't let that fool you. We sat down at a 2 seater table. I glanced over and noticed a long table set up for a group. Why did they have to put us right next to it?! aahh! I am not one to complain though. We first ordered our alcoholic drinks. I can't remember what I had and my bf said his was a okay (but he is picky when it comes to alcohol drinks). Our chips and salsa were extremely good. I love the little spiral dish it came in. But, just because it came in a spiral dish didn't mean it didn't taste like some of the other Mexican restaurants. Right when our meal came was when the group came in. Of course a bit noisy. My bf had an enchilada. He said their was nothing special to it. It did taste good in his opinion and had no problem. Me however did have a problem. I ordered the tamale dish. I have had tamales before! My Aunt makes them homemade in Honduras. I have never been insulted likes this before in a dish (lol). You don't not put chicken on top of a tamale and call it a tamale. I don't care if it is how you fancy up your dishes. Tamales that are HOMEMADE the chicken goes INSIDE!!!!!!! I was so upset I could barely eat it. And the actual tamales that were in the bottom of the heap of chicken looked small. Like one of those tamales that come frozen and than reheated. Not homemade like the waitress advertised. Overall, this is overpriced Mexican food that just comes in fancy dishes to make it appear upscale. I have been to better Mexican restaurants that serve the same type of food with a lot better pricing attached to it(even if they do not serve tamales). The annoying part about the group was a mother put a cute baby right across from the table we were sitting at. I believe it was the grandma that came over to see the baby. Stuck her BIG butt right in my bf's face (LMAO!). I kept teasing him and telling him to look over. Also, she kept taking pictures of the group and I had to keep hiding my face. In this day and age you never know where the photos may end up. I do not like to be in the background of pictures of people I do not know. * Will not be a repeat customer

So, we've given them a couple of shots and they still can't hit the target. Weeknight, small crowd so we get seated rightaway. Don't get a second look from anyone for 15 mins ! ! Finally we wave down the waitress that seated us and she gets our beverages..then she's gone. Finally catch her eye long enough to get our order in the works. In the meantime a table of six that was seated loooong after we were in are eating already and the duece that arrived just after us is well into their meal. Pitiful. Food quality is good with plenty of flavor but you shouldn't have to send out search parties for a server. Not at these prices. Should you dare to try this place leave plenty of time before your game/show/evening events, get the name of your server and don't let them get out of sight. And, for heaven's sake management, don't charge an appetizer price for simple chips and salsa...it's a mexican restaurant...they SHOULD BE INCLUDED...period.

I think it is the best Mexican restaurant in Orlando. I see a lot of the negative reviews, but my experience was really good. Maybe they have tried to improve on their ratings. The service was fine. Our server was a little busy, but there was an assist server who was getting us anything we needed. And then every once and a while, the manager (I think it was the manager), would follow up just to check up. I had the steak fajitas and they were the best. Also, I had the Mitchelada and that was awesome.

Like so many reviews below me have stated, Paxia has got to be one of the worst establishments I have ever been to. How it has been open longer than a week astonishes me. This is my first review on Yelp, I am that passionate about my distaste for it. Long story short my brothers and I went to Paxia a few months ago for Cinco De Mayo and had the worst service and experience you can possibly imagine. The restaurant was not at a wait and there were many tables open. Again, it was Cinco De Mayo and Paxia is a Mexican restaurant in a very popular location and part of town with a high traffic in and out of the area (THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE RED FLAG). The food took hours to arrive (all orders were incorrect, cold and undercooked), our server was rude and nonexistent, drinks never refilled, etc. I can go on and on, but after asking for a manager and being told to "come back tomorrow to speak with them because they were busy". Again, let me reiterate when I say that the restaurant looked like any normal crowd, NOT busy like it should've been for a Mexican holiday. To tell your customer to come back tomorrow has to be one of the worst possible responses you could give to a paying customer at YOUR restaurant. I decided to walk inside to ask for the manager myself and to my surprise found the restaurant nearly empty with 2 other patrons attempting to wait to speak with the Manager as well. After being told by multiple servers, the bartender and the host that the Manager was in the back calling orders in the kitchen, a woman finally stepped up and said she was the Manager. She was extremely rude and unprofessional and treated each and every one of us like we were a nuisance. My family just purchased a home in College Park within walking distance to Paxia, and believe me when I say we will never step foot in there again. College Park has so many other options worth your time and money. I give this place another few months based on my experience and many of the reviews listed.

I rarely write bad reviews. Being in the industry for over 20+ years, I fully understand the things that can affect a person's experience while dining out. So this will simply be an honest review and you can take it from there. So.... just the facts then - Upon arriving we asked for the happy hour menu (It was 6:45pm). Our server went and got it for us and told us that we could only order drinks, that the food happy hour prices were only for inside....(Odd????) So we ordered our drinks. After waiting 10 minutes she came back out and informed us that she had made a mistake and that happy hour had ended and that we couldn't order the drinks, either.... OK We then ordered our meals. Me - 3 beef tacos, flour tortillas, Her - 3 vegetable tacos, corn tortillas (She's gluten free)... pretty simple in a Mexican restaurant, right??? 51 minutes later, our meals arrive (Drinks have been long gone and not replenished, by the way). Both meals are so salty we had a hard time eating them. We inform the server, she apologizes and leaves the table. She comes back and informs us that the chef would like to know if we would like them remade. Sure, that would be great. 15 minutes later she returns and they have made them incorrectly, switching the tortillas. My guest is gluten free, so this is unacceptable. At this point I tell her to simply pack them up as we have been here now for an hour and 10 minutes and have eaten 1 salty taco and have a puppy that needs to go home. The manager comes out and brings us a complimentary flan, which she cannot guarantee is gluten free, and asks if she can do anything else. I said yes, can you please replace the rice and beans with fresh ones and put them with our to go food. We hadn't eaten them because we wanted to eat them with our tacos. She informs me that she would have to charge us for that. I asked her if she was serious, that she really wanted to charge me for items that have a food cost of less than 10 cents after I've waited for an hour and 10 minutes for 3 tacos that they screwed up twice. She said she would see what she could do. End result - 1 hour, 22 minutes. 1 drink per person, 1 taco per person, $42+ tab without tip. Silver lining - they offered my puppy water.... oh that's right, they didn't.

Paxia has some amazing drinks. I won't make this review too long but these are the things I liked about the place: 1) the service: our waitress was amazing she walked us through the menu and informed us of the special they had going on that night 2) the drinks: I ordered the classic margarita and it was really good. 3) the food: I ordered the 3 chicken tacos and to be honest they were OK. They came with blue cheese beans and those were good. 4) when you check in with yelp you get a free dessert and I was able to try the flan and it was really good . Overall experience was OK. The cost of the food vs amount served is reasonable. I do want to go back for happy hour because the menu looks really good.

I recently came here with a group for Sunday brunch. It was okay, but we all agreed that we'll try a different brunch spot next time. A few thoughts on the experience: Food: The guac with bacon was DELICIOUS. Would definitely order again. But the rest was unmemorable. I had a fajita-type breakfast dish that was okay, but wasn't very flavorful. Service: The server was nice, but didn't seem to know much about the menu. I asked the server if I could order a different fruit juice, like cranberry, in lieu of OJ for my mimosa. She was shocked by the question and wasn't sure if it was possible. When it was time to order the meal, I asked if there were any recommendations or popular brunch selections, but she seemed really confused that I would ask. I love when servers have opinions about the menu, since that typically helps guide my decision of what to order... so that was a little disappointing. AMBIANCE: I love the style of this restaurant. I've come here before for Happy Hour, which is a great time to come for a margarita and guac. But it felt very dead at Sunday brunch. Who knows why? Overall, the experience was fine. I'd definitely come back here for Happy Hour, when I can enjoy more of their delicious guac along with a cocktail.

The brunch here is awesome! I got the huevos montados (riding eggs) which comes with eggs (over easy) on a delicious skirt steak, seasoned and cooked to perfection, all sitting on a bed of refried beans and fries. Sounds busy but was so good!! Let's just say it was a party in my mouth! Their flan was incredible too.

The happy hour here is the best. Great location. There's two sides here. When you walk in and go to your left is the dining area. To the right is the bar area. You have the option of sitting at the bar, a high top table or in one of the comfy chairs in front of the TV. I always have a frozen margarita and must say; they are the best. The appetizers a great as well. The prices are comparable and the service is awesome. I never get enough of Paxia. It would be nice though if happy hour was til 7.

Was back and forth between 3 and 4 starts but went with 4 because the food is always consistently delicious. They have great happy hour and brunch specials as well, regular menu is a little pricey but portions are good size. Have had all of the tacos, fajitas, and brunch steak with an egg. We live around the corner so we go a good amount and will be back but the service is always a little off. Most of the time the host is your server and even the bartender, always friendly but never that efficient. In the end it's still good and 4 stars is fair :)

I would literally go here solely for their bacon guacamole and salsa! and that is just one of their appetizers. This place...tho a little pricey is absolutely delicious. I also had their white sangria wine which just like their food was amazing!

I've been going here for years. The quality of food and drinks is outstanding. People who complain about pricing obviously never tried to cook with truly fresh, high quality ingredients. I love going for early lunch because it's quiet..perfect for in-depth conversations. I love the Chile Relleno and the Salmon Ceviche, and I always have to have guacamole. Even the free salsa is top notch.

This is a terrible establishment. We waited over 50 minutes to receive water, let alone our cocktails. Our food arrived after an hour and a half of waiting, and every single order (out of 5 total) was either entirely incorrect or was missing a key ingredient. The staff was unapologetic and unhelpful. We saw several other tables who were unhappy with their service, one of whom left entirely, because they never received their food. I will never come back here again and recommend that you do not waste your time and money.

My husband and I went on a double date here with another couple that highly recommended the restaurant. We arrived and sat at the bar for bit. The bartender was very friendly and was quick to get our drinks to us. Shortly after, we sat at table right outside the bar and minus the company, the evening slowly took a turn for the worst. We waited about 25 minutes until someone actually acknowledged that we were there. Once we got menus, we waited another 15 minutes for a waiter to arrive. We ordered drinks and once they came out we quickly ordered the guacamole as an appetizer. The appetizer took about another 20 minutes to get out. Although it was delicious, we were STARVING by the time it came out and no one even came to check on us during that time. For dinner I ordered the steak fajitas. The $18 price tag didn't bother me but when the fajitas actually came out I was very disappointed to see only 5 pieces of steak there. The food overall was good but I could have gotten just as good of food for 1/2 the price at a local Mexican restaurant with great service. I definitely don't think that we will be back any time soon. The bill for 2 was over $100 and our service was awful.

Food wasn't bad but the service was so bad that I will never be returning here. 1) asked our server if there was cheese on a menu item and she had no clue 2) was there for two hours, bought the bottomless mimosas deal. got four mimosas over the two hours (!! so slow, server kind of indicated it was on purpose to 'pace us') with our food and then got 'cut off' because 'they lose money on the deal' 3) no one asked for our checks but when we were done eating they were brought to us anyway, when we tried to order another round we got told that since our tab got closed our we would have to open a new one and purchase them individually even though there was an hour left on the bottomless deal we purchased Just to set the scene there were literally two other tables filled in the whole place. No one was waiting to be seated. One of the other tables was another disgruntled brunch crew that I ended up talking to on the way out, they had an equally discouraging experience and said they weren't ever going back as well. Still left the waitress a 20% tip because I felt like it was managements fault the experience was so terrible. Don't advertise a bottomless mimosa deal if you can't live up to it! It's a shame because the food was actually pretty good...

Came here at 8:30 on a Thursday night. There were about 5 tables taken in the entire dining room. The hostess asked us if we had a preference and we asked for a booth. There was a large booth free. There was another booth with 3 guys sitting in it. She looked around and said that she couldn't give us the booth just in case a larger party came in. We left.... Better customer service. It's obvious this place is not doing well. Been here plenty of times in the past but doubt I will be back now.

Pretty terrible. The Paxi-Rita was great (that's why it got 2 stars) but the food was pretty bad. Started w/ queso & empanadas - both were bland, the empanadas were especially bad. My wife ordered the carne asada tacos, I could of made them myself at home, grilled meat w/ no seasoning and then what looked like Kraft sprinkle cheese on top. I had the Chili Relano and took 1 bite and sent it back. Didn't replace it with anything because I didn't want any more of their food. Got the check and only the 1 entree was taken off. Mentioned I was surprised that I came out to dinner and didn't get any dinner and they couldn't even take a drink off. The waitress smiled and said something sarcastic. I just laughed and still left her 20% as a joke. Don't come here.

I went to Paxia for happy hour and was really disappointed. The tacos were ok. Nothing really special. I was really excited to try their sopapillas for dessert. They were awful, and I dont say that lightly. They were sour instead of sweet. It was practically inedible. The cinnamon ice cream was was the dessert's only saving grace. Thr restaurant did take the dessert back and gave me the flourless cake to try. It was ok, but not something i would order again. The cake was flavorless though the filling was sweet and very chocolatey. Overall, not a place I will visit again.

Overpriced and underwhelming food. Queso fundido (poblano version) - had a good spice to it, but the cheese was stringy and hard to eat. Tacos al pastor - Nothing remarkable Flan (free for checking in with Yelp) - was the best part of the meal!! One of the best flan dishes I've ever had, and totally worth a star! House margarita - good but pricey

This modern Mexican restaurant has recently been remodeled, and now has a beautiful interior with great ambiance. There's a nice selection of interesting cocktails in addition to excellent margaritas. The food is a modern spin on traditional Mexican dishes, not Tex Mex. I had the Pastor, marinated pork served with diced onions and pineapples on corn tortillas. The presentation was authentic, but the rich spicy flavor of authentic pastor wasn't really there. My wife had the open face salmon quesadilla. This was a fantastic creation, with large pieces of savory house-smoked salmon atop arugula. After eating the top as a salad, she folded the tortilla in half and ate it as a regular cheese quesadilla. It had been grilled to perfection. The ceviche appetizer was interesting. The salmon "tartare" was more like chunks of salmon that had been tossed in an interesting sauce and mixed with guacamole, capers and cilantro (an unusual but successful combination) then served atop tostones (fried pressed green plantains). It was a generous serving, plenty for two. The Sunday brunch menu offers many egg-based creations with a Mexican flair, although most involve beans, which isn't an ingredient I like with eggs. Service is very friendly and efficient. One of the best choices for dining in College Park.

One of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant. The whole evening was plagued with issues: informed it was happy hour and that we could get happy hour drinks, but not happy hour food (not allowed outside...?), offered happy hour drinks, but then informed happy hour had ended 30 minutes prior, first round of tacos was way too salty and inedible, second round was made wrong, without regard to my gluten allergy, and had to be remade again, third round packaged to go, but they tried to charge us for refreshing beans and rice in our to-go containers. We only got one round of FULL PRICED drinks, and weren't offered another round until they had long been empty and bone dry. To top it off, we were charged for everything--full price, with no discount for an hour and a half wait on a night when the restaurant was empty. Definitely not a gluten free safe restaurant! Cross contamination is a huge issue, and the staff is not knowledgeable of gluten free offerings. Save your time, save your money, and eat at another restaurant.

Had a great dinner tonight. As always, the chips and salsa are the best in town. Hey had a special guacamole with strawberries and habanero and it was tremendous. Ordered the organic chicken for the first time. To say it was delicious was an understatement Paxia is not a Tex Mex restaurant and that is why it is great. Great food made with love is all you can ask for, and Paxia delivers every time.

This is a fair to decent semi-gourmet mexican restaurant. I've been here several times because it is the mexican restaurant in College Park, and sometimes, one just wants a margarita and a taco. It seems that each time we go, someone has a really good meal, and another has an uninspired meal. This last experience, my father had the special pork tacos which he raved about, but my fajitas were fair at best, with about 1/2 a normal meat portion, and no options for substitutions on fixins (no black beans available, but they serve black beans with a lot of their dishes). Service is hit or miss, though there's rarely a crowd. This last time, our margaritas came quickly, but some chips didn't arrive until just before our entrees. I can't imagine what would take 15 minutes to dish out a prepared salsa, and put some chips in a bucket. I want to like this restaurant, but I don't think I can recommend one that can't get basic fajitas right.

We had a terrible experience at this restaurant. We had a reservation for 10. Upon arrival we were in formed they could not seat us together without a pre fixed menu. So we split into two tables with 2 different servers. One table had decent service the other was terrible. Our server did bring chips without us asking our drinks took forever and a bottle of beer the longest. 3 of us were served our entre the other 2 waited and we're served much later We complained to the server she blamed the kitchen. The manager did not come over to smooth over the mess. I found him and complained he of course apologized and offered free dessert we refused. Then our check came with 18% gratituity included which we had taken off. The food was mediocre at,best.

I have only been here once, but I would come again. Their queso fundido was very good, the portion was enough for 4 guest. However it does not come with tortilla. We ate it with the tortilla chips that came with the salsa instead. In the end the manager came out and gave us dessert on the house because of loud patrons.

    (4)
  • Amber P.

The food is just not good. The salsa is not fresh and tastes like strained pecante sauce. The tortilla soup tastes like water and a few spices were added to Heinz tomato paste and the fajita meat was bland and unseasoned. We ordered a mimosa which was basically orange juice with a drop of champagne. We politely brought it to their attention and they did bring another one which was better so they get a star for trying but the food is just not good.

Went in between4 and 5 on a Sunday with my girlfriend and we were the only table in there. Should have known. The service was proably the biggest issue though the food itself wasn't good. The server that greeted us was went through the special though we could hardly understand what he was saying. He had an accent but it was just that he was mostly mumbling. We must have come in during a shift change because we ended up with a different server. We had problems getting refills on our drinks and had to get another server, different from the 2 that served our food, to get our check. I thought it was really upsetting when the server, our 2nd one, didn't bother to check on us after our food was served until we were finished eating. Even commenting that she should would ask how everyone is but it really didn't matter at that point since we were finished. I had the shrimp & scallop enchiladas and she had the chicken enchiladas. You have a choice of sauce for the chicken enchiladas apparently but she was never asked. My enchiladas were fine. I tried her enchiladas and again, just fine. Neither meals were anything robust when it came to the flavor. The best part of our meal was the chips and salsa.

We had brunch on Sunday. The whole experience was excellent. I ordered the levanta muertos and my boyfriend had huevos montados. The churrasco on huevos montados was cooked to perfection. Delicious!! Service was on point. And drinks were good as well. Mimosas could use more champagne but were not that bad. If you are looking for bold flavors on a brunch, this is your place to go.

The food was really bland, and nothing impressive. Everything just seemed to be missing something in each dish. My husband ended up sending his meal back (something I've never seen him do before). The service wasn't great, our server seemed overly busy with the very few tables she had. We were also disappointed in the fact that my husband didn't order a replacement meal because nothing looked good, and nothing was compensated on the bill.

Good all around. Traditional fresh and great service. Nice place too. Place took a change for the best. I like that it's not always too busy and easy to come in and enjoy and awesome happy hour. That probably won't last once people realize it's awesome.

SLOW slow slow service! Neglected to tell us we could not order our BOTTOMLESS mimosas when she closed out our check. Our waitress paced out our alcohol because she thought we wouldn't be able to handle it. As such, each drink took at least 15 minutes to get. VERY disappointed and would absolutely LOVE to hear Paxia's management's response to this. Never returning. Terrible birthday brunch. MUY TERIBLE. Never spend a dime here as it would be a waste.

Before last night, I had only been to Paxia for happy hour, so I was in the area and decided to give dinner a try. Well, needless to say I will not be returning to eat their food EVER again. Drinks - outside of happy hour, they are very overpriced. Food - I was hesitant to spend $18, but I ordered the Compart Farms Carnitas, which was the waitresses recommendation. When it came out, it resembled a plate of wet dog food out of a can with a glob of guac on top - and it tasted how it looked. After tasting it and moving it around in the bowl I noticed that it was sitting in at least an inch of grease. After pointing it out to the waitress she offered to bring me something else and explained that it usually doesn't look like that. So, I ordered what I thought was a salad and went with another one of her recommendations, Aguacate. A salad has lettuce, so I thought. For $14 you get a bunch of sliced avocados with tomatoes, raw onion and grilled chicken to top it off. Thank god I ordered the dressing on the side, because it came with a giant thing of pure oil. My mom ordered the chicken tacos, and she said they were just okay, and that they chips and salsa was the best part of the meal... and those were free. Service - The waitress was very friendly, attentive and understanding. I definitely do not have to ever eat here again, although I might visit them for happy hour drinks again.

You can't be short staffed on Cinco de Mayo.. You can't.. And not only that, the place was empty. Should have turned around then. They claimed heavy reservations, the tables never filled. Not only did we wait for service once seated, the only person that gave us any attention was when the bartender came over to take our beverage order. Ask for Taylor, don't talk to anyone else. We ordered guacamole and it never came. The food all came out cold. Have you ever seen fajitas that were served not steaming? That happened. The drinks were good, but when is alcohol not. I am likely never to return.. Which is sad because this place looks like it could be an amazing spot with proper management and an attentive staff. I literally created a yelp account to comment on how bad the service was. I hope the owner reads these

3pm, 4 servers and maybe a half dozen customers, lunch still took 45 minutes to get to table, every time I would ask my server a question ie: drink specials, beer on tap or lunch special, she would say let me check on that, unprofessional. Food was no better then taco bell, for the price it should have been better. I can honestly say, I won't be back.

Of all the Mexican restaurants I have ever been to, this one is definitely my favorite! The food is exquisitely delicious and fresh, the servers are friendly and attentive, and the ambiance is perfect. The skirt steak is a symphony of favors, and the guacamole is the best I've ever had, bar none! I have not had the pleasure of trying their brunch menu yet, but hopefully I'll get to, soon. And Molly is a queen among servers!

Had brunch this afternoon with 5 friends at Paxia. This was my first visit to this restaurant. It took quite a bit of time for a server to get to our table and ask for a drink order. After ordering a margarita (which was delicious) it took between 10-15 minutes for it to actually arrive at the table. It took 15 minutes after that before they dropped the chips and salsa. After ordering the food, it came in a reasonable amount of time, but ordering a second margarita was a challenge since no one was keeping an eye on our drink levels so you have to wait to get someone's attention. After ordering the second drink it took a very long time for it to reach the table. We were there for two hours. In that time, I was only able to order two drinks because it took so long. Paxia left money on the table because, if the service was faster, I definitely would have ordered another 1 or 2 since our party was enjoying each others company so much. It was frustrating. I feel bad giving them only two stars because the food was really tasty. Unfortunately, I can't separate the great food from the agonizingly slow service. I never saw a manager. We were one of about 4 parties in the restaurant. Not once did a manager touch our table. If they had, I would have commented about the slow service. Since I didn't have that opportunity, I'm letting all of you know what to expect because it will probably not improve without the people in charge understanding the issue. Even though the food was delicious, I probably will not return because of the unreasonably slow service.

Great service from Kimberly. The food is also amazing especially the brunch menu. Huevos Montados is a great dish. Skirt steak cooked to perfection on top of fries and red beans with a couple of fried eggs on top. My go to spot for an upscale Mexican meal.

Just do yourself a favor and do not waste your time. Food is flavorless- black beans from a can- what Mexican restaurant can have flavorless queso? Shrimp app was good but what shrimp dish with garlic isn't? Prices are way to high for the quality! Service was great but they should find another job at a restaurant where they can be proud of the food they serve. Just my honest opinion!

Stopped here after work on a Friday for a happy hour treat. Got the house happy hour margarita and two al pastor tacos. The margarita was decent especially for a happy hour price. It could've used a little less sour mix or a little more booze, the ratio was off a bit, but still not bad. The tacos were tasty and full of meat. I liked the pineapple bits added. Oh, and their hot sauces are good. I'll be back for more and some actual dinner items.

If I could give no stars I would. It is a more expensive Mexican restaurant so you would expect good customer service. My son wanted a quesadilla with cheese. My daughter wanted an enchilada with chicken only on the inside and melted cheese on the outside instead of sauce. The waitress came back to our table and said they couldn't do either. They said they could bring out a salmon quesadilla and he could take the salmon off. She also said they have to put sauce in the enchilada but it could be light sauce. Are you kidding me! The salmon tacos were dry and had some deep fried crunchy things in the top. My husband did eat his steak tacos.

I'm surprised the reviews aren't a little better for this place. I enjoyed myself. It is not the traditional dirty mexican, it is more of a trendy, mexican-infused menu but it was very good! The place was a little empty for dinner so that wasn't the best sign but it picked up as we were leaving. We ordered the calamari and guacamole appetizers and both were excellent. The guacamole wasn't made table-side but you could still tell it was fresh. The main entrees were pretty good. I think everyone in our party ordered something different so we got a pretty good sampling of various items. I ordered the chicken tacos and they came with corn relish and cilantro pesto! The pesto was the whole reason I ordered that dish and I have to say I was disappointed when I had to search my whole taco and flip it inside out to find the drop of pesto. It was not even a dollop of pesto. Therefore, my taco seemed dry and bland but had so much potential! Next time they need to be more liberal with their pesto! Anyway, they have all types of creative enchilada and taco combinations. They also offer soups, salads and other main entrees. The vibe was "cool," the presentation was notable and overall the service was decent. I would return and request extra cilantro pesto on the side. :)

Very disappointed. Highly overpriced for what you get. It was not very busy on a Thursday night and we struggled to get refills and place an order. Most of us had the Tacos. You get three soft ones and a bowl of beans for $13....that is it. I have been to many other restaurants where you get much for for the price for same quality. I wouldn't say avoid the place, but don't go out of way for here.

We were hungry and in the college park area, and chose to take a chance on Paxia based on appearance and proximity. We walked in and spoke to the host behind the podium. Even though the dining room was less than half full, we had to wait a minute or two before being seated. The menu looked very interesting and boasted many grass-fed and other organic selections. The prices were higher than the advertised $$ on yelp, but we were looking forward to diving in. Natalie, greeted us and took our drink orders. Beer for me and water for my friend. The water was poured almost immediately, yet the beer took another 5 or 6 minutes. (again, the place was less than half full) Natalie took our order and our appetizer and my black bean soup showed up almost 10 minutes later. The soup tasted good but was barely warm. The shrimp appetizer consisted of 5 shrimp (for 11 bucks) in a sizzling cast iron mini skillet. The shrimp was tasty and very hot. That's the last Natalie saw fit to check in on us. After 35 minutes, she asked if I'd like another beer and I told her that I would, and we'd also like our food. She offered a quick, "sorry about that" and then walked away. In the next 10 minutes, we saw her bring food to a table by the window, only to have the food refused along with a request for the check, due to "excruciatingly slow service". It was around this time that we heard loud yelling from the kitchen, as all of the wait staff had disappeared from the floor. I got up and found Natalie in the back of the house and asked for the check. She brought it (30 bucks for 2 beers, 5 shrimp and warm soup) with a "sorry about that" said in passing and we left. Needless to say, we won't be back.

Ms. Colleen B. took me here for my birthday lunch. The alcohol menu is overwhelming. So many different kinds of tequila. Holy crap. I opted for the traditional one (lame, I know but it's classic). It was great. The guac was amazing. I can't believe I used to not like guac - I can't imagine going to a Mexican place without it now. I got the carnitas enchiladas. They were good. I was not expecting a red sauce with them but that's what I got. It was good. We ate outside, so I can't comment on the atmosphere. The service was a little slow outside but weren't in a rush. It was an odd hour for food and they weren't expecting as many people as were in the restaurant. I want to go back for happy hour. I hear their deals are amazing.

Still luv paxias food. Had their Chicken the other night and it was absolutely delicious. However, when I requested a small little side of guacamole I got a big fat no. That they do not have little sides and I would have to purchase a $7 app size and could box the rest. :0. What's crazy is both my daughter and husband got fajitas and both with a side of guacamole. My husband was nice and gave me his. So why was I denied! ? I would have been happy to pay for it 1.50-3 is what most other restaurants charge. Come on Paxia! Let's not be so strange, or you may loose some repeat customers no matter how good your food is. I will just give my business to P'S when they open.

So I was reluctant to come to Paxia because of the reviews that I've seen on here. But I decided to take a chance when I saw their Happy Hour. I have been here twice now and I have nothing but great things to say. Now, my disclaimer is that the only thing that we have had has been from the Happy Hour menu. We havent ventured out into the actual menu, but what we've had so far has been great! I have been searching high and low for the best Margarita in Orlando and I think this is it. I get it frozen with no salt and I think its great. Not a "lime-y" mix of just sour, its the right color and you can still taste a hint of tequila if you really think about it. But otherwise a smooth delicious drink to cap of a hot summer day. Plus $4 at Happy Hour cant be beat. As far as food goes we have tried all of the tacos, the calamari, and all of the $1 appetizers. All are fantastic but the only ones that werent all that exciting were the skewer and the calamari. The calamari were really tasty and tender but the thing that got me was the corn meal breading wasnt sticking to the meat too well and it got to be a bit of a mess. But the stand outs that I love are any of the tacos and the chorizo. Hope to check out more on the menu next time!

Neighborhood upscale Mexican. You must try the guacamole. I think that is the best thing on the menu. Pajama Brunch is a great deal for bottomless mimosas bloody Maria's and an entree for $25.

Paxia is a great Mexican spot but is a bit pricey compared to what we think are the best Mexican spots in Orlando (Cocina 214, Mi Mexico #2, Border Grill, etc.), but they do have some classy and delicious Mexican dishes. They also have a great brunch (huevos montados) that is worth the trip. Its a great spot if you want t take a friend/group for a higher end Mexican experience. They also have a nice bar area and some outside seating on Edgewater Dr. A great spot for a higher end Mexican food experience.

I had never even heard of Paxia until just last night. While spending the day with a friend she remembered that she had agreed to meet another friend for dinner. He had a craving for Mexican and apparently had an enjoyable experience at Paxia before, so off we went! I am not overly fond of the College Park area, and Paxia gave off a distinct College Park vibe. I can't explain it any better than that without sounding both offensive and defensive, so I will leave it at that. However, once we were all seated in a cozy little corner, with my back to the rest of the restaurant, I quickly forgot about all of that. We ordered a half-pitcher of sangria, which, while tasty...I am not sure was actually all that boozy. The complimentary chips were badly in need of salt, and the accompanying salsa was somewhat thin and watery and quite heavy on the cilantro. I'm not really a fan of the thick and chunky salsas either, so perhaps there is no pleasing me on the salsa front. I had a somewhat heavy lunch and have difficulty deciding as to what I might want for dinner; the server recommended to me the "Aguacate", salad, which, as a lover of all things avocado, sounded good to me. And indeed, it was good. A spiced and marinated chicken breast, grilled and served over a mound of avocados and tomatoes, lightly dressed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It was an incredibly simple dish, but full of flavor and really wonderful. The only thing I would change is to add some more tomatoes and maybe a bit - a tiny bit of onion. Maybe some fresh herbs. I do think I could probably make this at home, and enjoy it quite often and as a far less expensive meal, though. However, I never would have thought of it until trying it here, so I must give credit where credit's due. My companions both ordered the Huitelacoche quesadilla, "corn truffle, goat cheese, corn relish, cotija crust" and they both agreed that while it sounded tasty on paper, in reality the dish had too many things going on in it to properly taste any of the individual ingredients. The both mostly finished their portions, but agreed they probably would not order it again. As I had never heard of the place, I didn't think to read any reviews before going; now, however, am reading that they have a marvelous happy hour. I think that I would probably come back for that, but on the whole I don't think I would want to stop in again and order a fancified Mexican meal; I'd probably rather have something more authentic and less expensive.

Great food and amazing happy hour deals. Staff is on point and ambiance is just about perfect Latest menu is high but delicious. Updated 8-26 - Rarely go back here. Turnover has been high and the happy hour specials have gotten less and less special. Still good food, but just not the same deals.

Freshness! I have been wanting to hit this place up for a while and am frustrated as to why it has taken me so long. The ambiance is awesome, very laid back and comfortable. I could live with turning the music down a bit in the dining room but it wasn't to the point that I could not hold a conversation. While we were there it was also during sunset and the sun gleams in the front windows where we were seated. We were not facing the sun so it was lovely light. However, when the dinning room started getting packed we had to have the shades lowered because everyone else was in direct path of the sun... booo! But it was fine. Thursday Special: $6.50 glasses of wine... ANY WINE... even $13/glass wines are offered at this special price. I dove into the Riesling and it was delic!! Also 2-4-1 margaritas at happy hour... I will have to hit this place back up very soon to partake. Love when my guac is made fresh and you can taste each ingredient. I do have to say it was a bit salty but I am a HUGE fan of salt so I loved it. Just a warning for other who are not the same. The chips were a smaller size than the oversized ones you usually receive at authentic Mexican joints. They were a bit thicker as well so they were PERFECT for dipping and throwing back! The salsa was tasty but a little watery, I am a chunky fan myself. On with the main dishes... WOW... what to choose from? They had so many options it was hard. The one that stood out to myself and my girlfriend were the Bacon Wrapped, Queso Filled Shrimp... WHAT? If we had seen it earlier and did not indulged in 2 things of salsa and the guac I may have taken on this amazingness. As we were leaving we saw it in the flesh too and it looks even more amazing that it did in my imagination! I went with the taquitos filled with shredded chicken and they hit the spot! They were extremely tasty and crisp. The chicken was very flavorful and there was a great amount. I did not try the beans or rice as I was not that hungry but they looked good! I was very pleased with my experience and can't wait to go back and get those shrimp AND try the tequila bar... whomp whomp!!!

First off the atmosphere and staff were wonderful! We never lacked for drinks or chips and salsa, which were free. The food was tasty, but sub par. It was good, but not $15 dollars a plate good! The adult drinks were ok, but were way too expensive for the quantity. The guacamole was excellent and definitely a crowd pleaser, but it's just not enough to justify the price for an evening out. This has been my 2nd visit and each time I've come away feeling less than satisfied which is a shame because it seems to have great potential.

This was my first trip to Paxia, we attended the UYE for Thirsty Thursday in the bar area. The margaritas were great, good flavor and $4. They went down a little too quickly, so I ordered Tecate for $2.5 to break things up. Tacos on the happy hour menu were really good, I liked the sauce on the steak tacos for flavor by the Al Pastor was my favorite taco. 2 tacos came in each order, good portion. Cheese empanada were good, too. Friends ordered the chicken skewer which looked really good and I'd order next time. Fun place to come for Happy Hour, especially when you can get the large TV off of the cooking channel and onto a sporting event. Service was good.

I first visited this restaurant when I was in Orlando for a job interview. Once I moved here, I decided I had to go back. The first time was in March and the seasonal guacomole was fantastic. The carnitas were an interesting take (small bite size pieces covered in cheese). The plantanos maduros (fried sweet plaintains) were good--sweet, with tender inside. The second time, I ordered fajitas and they were less delicious and the regular guacamole was fresh and zesty. I preferred the seasonal guac; it had more depth of flavor. But the traditional guac is still good. The location is great in College Park. The service was fair; our server was responsive though not as on top of beverages as I would like. The interior is quite nice and in the evening when the lights are dimmed it feels more upscale. Definitely worth a return trip.

Great atmosphere but the food isn't that great... We had the guacamole which was very small and then queso which was pretty good. The carnitas and the seafood enchiladas were terrible. The Margarita's were very weak. Service is outstanding but I won't be back.

I had the shrimp and scallops enchiladas, and my friend had the pork tacos. We started with a serving of their special guacamole dip with mangos. The food was all very fresh, and the service was great. Only complaint we had was that our table wobbled a little bit, and the tables are pretty close together, so it's not very conducive to having private conversations at lunch. They could solve that problem by just cranking up the Muzak a touch.

I have never eaten here before. However, on Friday evening I went to this side of town to tan and get a bite to eat. The parking lot is shared with dunkin donuts as well. I parked. There are signs on both entrances which say "tow away zone", but it is parking for those two establishments. I went to get my spray tan, and was going to pop in and check out the place because it looked busy and nice. I tanned, came out and my car had been towed! I called the tow conpany and they said they watched me park and walk down to the ice cream shop and that was Paxia parking. I asked management of the restaurant if they called, he said no. Then I saw a man with the Tow Truck Company to shirt sitting on the curb and calling to tow people. I find this absolutely ridiculous! You're going to tell me that just because I went somewhere else first, I did something wrong? What if an employee was early, and went down to get ice cream, will their car be towed?! Now I definitely will not be back to try this place for fear my car may disappear again and I'll be out $135.00. :(

First off, the service is always friendly and welcoming. Second, the food... impeccable. I have never ordered something where I didn't want to lick the plate to savor every last bite. Third, pricing during happy hour... can't be beat. A tasty, perfect margarita at only $4!! Yes, please.

I have enjoyed several happy hours and dinners here since my initial review. All have been very tasty. The entree's are delish, the apps are hit or miss. Hit: Chips and Salsa, fresh chips and freshly made salsa. Both homemade, it's easy to blow through these. Misses: The Queso and the Calamari. Paxia's queso is very hard to eat because the melted cheese is VERY stringy and separates from the brothy/milky part of the dip. It's not a smooth homogeneous cheese dip, it's stringy cheese and milky looking broth. It's always like this and someone always comments on it being "odd", so I'm keeping the 3 stars instead of bumping them up to 4 stars. It's tasty, but more of a fried/melted cheese taste, then a queso to use with 3 flour tortillas. Impossible to enjoy with corn chips. The Calamari was tender, but completely impossible to discern as rings or little squids as the blue corn coating was very thick and gloppy. (They looked like blue chunks on the plate.) Sadly, not much flavor to taste in the coating and it's dry, chewy and overdone. Again: squid, good. Coating, ease up (substantially) and you've probably got a winner. Restaurant week 2011 was a serious bargain here. My friends and I enjoyed everything on the 3 course menu but the queso and the calamari. The entree's flavors were bold and the ingredients were fresh. Chili Reneo with eggplant and shrimp was primarily those ingredients in a flavorful red sauce with a hit of Manchego cheese and not the usual pepper smothered in cheese. Friend enjoyed the Skirt steak, she was very pleased with the quality of the steak and the flavorfulness of the dish. Really very nice and top notch, esp. for a fixed price menu of $25 for three courses. They were out of all desserts but fried ice cream, which is a nice ice cream coated in toasted coconut. I was hoping to sample their Flan. Service is hit or miss, which is another reason it's staying at 3 stars. Sometimes service is very attentive and sometimes not. Drink specials are great, margaritas are tasty. Bar area is nice spot to sit down and enjoy their 2-4-1 margaritas at happy hour.

What I expected. It was good. I'm from Chicago, which has lots of upscale Mexican joints, so I wasn't surprised by the prices, since I knew that it was 'finer' Mexican dining. The salsa that came with the chips wasn't good. Impressive menu, they definitely put thought into creating it. Lots of options without being overwhelming. A nice selection of sides, and the 'entree dishes' are filling enough on their own, but they don't come with sides, so you'll have to order them separately if you want. I'll go back, but not in a huge hurry to go back. Being new here, I would much rather first try lots of other restaurants in the area.

How is the place still in business? Bad service, mediocre food and way overpriced! I've been here three times to eat and drink and was disappointed. They also charged my cc twice for my meal which I found out a week later! Mgr says they always have that problem! Wow! Save your $$ and go somewhere else!

I went here for lunch with 4 others and had a rather sub-par experience. The food was a bit overpriced. Most mexican places provide you chips and salsa on the house; not so here. Their habanero sauce was tasty and spicy. I got the chicken fajitas, which were bland. I don't think that they actually used spices, just oil to sautee the peppers, onion, and chicken. One big problem we had was as a party of five, none of our food came out together. One guy got his appetizer soup while the rest of us waited for guacamole for another 5 minutes or so. When the entrees came, they came one at a time over the course of 5 or 6 minutes. We were within earshot of the kitchen door, where the wait staff stood around bitching about the kitchen staff, so I guess the cooks were screwing things up, but having to listen to the wait staff bitch about it was unpleasant. They have a tequila list about as long as most wine lists, so I guess if you are crazy for tequila this might be your place, but if you want good service and delicious mexican food, look elsewhere.

This was a disappointment. I should have paid closer attention to the other reviewers, but my judgement was clouded by hunger. I called to see if they were busy at 6pm on a Friday. The guy who answered the phone was quite rude: "Yes." I asked, "Do you need reservations?" "Yes." End of phone call. I should have stopped then, but I called back to make a reservation for the next night. The young woman who answered the phone said she could make me a reservation for that very night, at 7:30. Ok. Seems like those two should have spoken to each other, but anyway. When we arrived the guy who greeted us did not ask if we had a reservation, just said there would be a 30 minute wait (note there were a lot of empty tables and no one waiting). When we said we had a reservation he acted irritated but finally found it and seated us. The server came quickly and took our drink order, but it took at least 10 minutes for our margaritas to arrive. One of us ordered the cheapo version, the other a more expensive version. The waitress couldn't really remember which was which was, and we tasted them both and couldn't tell either. Which, I guess, was a clue that it wasn't worth the money for the expensive version. We ordered an appetizer that turned out to be 5 tiny shrimp in oil and garlic, for $9. At that point our nice server brought us chips and salsa because, she said, it would be a while before we got our food. Friday, she said, was their busiest day. Ok, but it wasn't like there were crowds of people waiting. There seemed to be no one waiting. And still empty tables. Our food finally came. I had basic steak tacos and my partner had some sort of stuffed salmon in coconut milk sauce. My tacos, which I thought would surely be the most basic thing on the menu, were not good. The steak was done with carmelized onions, so very sweet, and then topped with arugula. When I asked for salsa casera, the server said she'd have to charge me because that was considered a "side." Since the three tacos were already $13, that seemed somewhat unreasonable. My partner said his salmon was fine, though I wasn't fond of what I tasted. The bill for all this? $80. Not worth it. If someone can please tell me where there IS a good Mexican restaurant near downtown Orlando, now that El Coqui Mexicano has broken my heart by closing, I would appreciate it. :)

A breath of fresh air for College Park, Paxia opened several years ago before "modern Mexican" started trending and has emerged as the leading restaurant of its kind. I have always been a fan of traditional Mexican cuisine and have always been a fan of Paxia! Tex-Mex Chimichanga-eaters beware: This is NOT Tijuana flats or Moe's (although located in the former Moe's location on Edgewater&Winter Park, but you'd never be able to tell by all the renovations inside) You can expect to pay more than $2 for tacos on Tuesday but TRUST ME, it is worth it. The food at Paxia is made by talented chefs using the freshest ingredients and you can tell with every bite. I would be remiss if I didn't address some of the issues the other reviewers have mentioned. There was a time when service was not quite on point and wait times were long. It seemed as if the staff was always new and different every time I went in. But those are problems of the past. If you haven't been to Paxia and experienced the changes in the past 6months-year, I urge you to go back and try it again. I am a big supporter of small business and independent restaurants and love what this place brings to my neighborhood! What not to miss: -Free Margaritas for ladies on Monday -Their wide variety of Tequila (if you only try a classic marg, you're missing out on the best part!) -Nopalitos salad -Black bean soup -Guacamole that's the BEST in town! -Any of their Chile Rellenos with knock your socks off. ENJOY!

This place's issue is that the food lacks real flavor. The service is good and the margaritas were yummy, but the main event was sub-par. Paxia has potential though. P.S. They have FREE Margaritas on Monday night for all the ladies.

Food was ok. Way over priced. Service was sub par. My waiter was great (Cory) bar tender was either mad or sad, definitely not happy. Waited 15 minutes to get a drink at bar with it mostly empty. They wouldn't give me happy hour special because I ordered 3 minutes to late even though I was waiting 15 minutes. Won't be coming back. Either is most of my party

Was on a saturday night for dinner and drinks, the service was ok nothing out of the ordinary and for the food was very tasty and more Tex-Mex than traditional Mexican. The one thing that did stand out as excellent were the Drinks! The have a good selection of cocktails and they make a really good Paloma, which outside of the west coast New York or Chicago I had not seen in any Tex-Mex restaurant menu and the best part is that they use Jarritos grapefruit soda to make it.

I usually do not hate restaurants but this has to be the worst place I have ever gone to. Terrible drinks, and even worse service. I came here on my birthday with four friends, we sent back drinks and all of our entrees only to receive a $100 bill and no word from any manager. Will never be returning here. The location and decor really has potential, but my experience was ruined.

Unfortunately it IS possible to get bad service when your sitting right in front of someone. A large group of my friends and I walked into Paxia on a Saturday night, the place was dead, so you would think they would be excited to see a crowd of thirsty and hungry individuals walk in. We immediately started rolling out the orders at the bar. Tequila, margaritas, beers and appetizers all around! But, the bartender seemed annoyed and uninterested in this new chance for revenue. It was as if we all walked in 5 minutes before closing, ordered waters and wanted to share a single order of chicken fingers. (A past pet peeve of mine of dining teenagers when I was in the service industry). It was apparently a mistake to even ask her for a suggestion from the menu. When I asked how the guac was (which I later found out is a signature of theirs) She merely stated that it was "fine" and walked away from me before I could place an order! When she returned, I asked very politely if, "when she got a chance, could I get an order of the guacamole." .... no response... turned and walked away again! Then, on the third attempt, she very rudely told me that she "heard me the first time and the order was in." I thought it couldn't get worse until she brought me the appetizer of controversy and literally slammed it down on the bar in front of me and again turned and walked away. On the upside, the guacamole was delicious and the skinny margarita was very refreshing! If I feel like being abused, I may return for the great food, but I doubt it.

This is by far the best authentic Mexican restaurant in Orlando. The food is prepared with care and it shows. Sunday brunch is delightful. The huitlacoche quesadilla is as good as I have ever had in the best restaurants in Mexico City not tex-mex just real Mexican food. Try and u won't disappointed.

it looks like this is going to be a happy hour place. we went back here for dinner since we loved everything so much, and let's just say the dinner side of things was a little pretentious...We started with calimari (still delicious) and tried their seasonal guacamole which included pomegranate instead of tomato- I wouldn't repeat it but my dinner companion enjoyed it. I ordered the chilli relleno which was stuffed with shrimp and eggplant. That was delicious. But if we hadn't ordered 2 appetizers it would have been nowhere near filling. Shared the tortilla and ice cream for dessert--this was also good. The food was good here, it's just the vibe that I didn't like. Our waiter almost seemed bored as the place was empty except for one other couple and he appeared to be doing laps around the restaurant so we were visited every 1 and 1/2 minutes so our water glasses (which were already full) got fuller. The place was so empty at 7 pm that we had to whisper to have a private conversation, especially with the constant interruptions from the waiter. I will say my date loved it, he said it would be a great "first date" place to impress a girl. Apparently "first date" places need to be uppity and uncomfortable in his book. On our way out we saw the other end of the restaurant, where the bar is and where we sat for happy hour. It was full of people and everyone seemed to be having a great time. I think in the future we'll stick to that side of the place and keep the evening happy. One more note--this place is not cheap. A dinner for 2 will easily run you $100 if you include appetizer and a drink.

When it first opened I was way more impressed. The more times I've gone the worse the service seems to get. And they nickle and dime The food is good but very over priced. I wouldn't mind it so much if the service was any good but the last time I visited the waiter was so terrible I don't think I'll ever go back. If you go I would recommend eating at the bar, its difficult to get bad service when you're sitting right in front of someone. The biggest upside: the house margaritas are excellent.

Mexican Take-out at its finest! The only times I have eaten Paxia are through Doorstep Delivery. Not the best Mexican I have ever had, but very delicious! If I had to pick an entree I like best about the meal I always order, it would be the Black Bean Soup. The cilantro makes the Black Bean Soup! Who would have thought cilantro would do the trick to take boring black beans into something fresh and delicious! When you order from take out they give you a significant amount of food, so I would suggest eating the black bean soup first, because that does not reheat well then move to the enchiladas, tacos, whatever your heart desires. Paxia's atmosphere is contemporary with several different colors that run against the walls, and I hear they have a great happy hour.

I had a great meal Paxia Friday night! Margaritas were flowing, service was top notch and the food was delicious. 16 of my best and most demanding friends descended on Paxia for a birthday party. We started with an order of guacamole with bacon and an order of guacamole with pomegranate. Both were fresh and flavorful with just a hint of spice. For my main dish I ordered Chile Relleno Costal. Wow! Black beans topped with a pepper stuffed with Gouda, shrimp, calamari and scallops. It was so good. Can't wait to go back!

Paxia, a love-and-eh relationship. I have to be in the mood for Paxia, and by mood I mean the mood for margaritas. The food is pretty good but very very expensive (especially if you're used to casual Mexican restaurant prices). The margaritas are good, and FREE for ladies on Monday nights during happy hour. I only go here a few times a year with girlfriends, not the best place for date night since the tables are pretty close to each other, but it's probably the best place in College Park for a girls night.

Not your typical Mexican food, it's complex, interesting and very flavorful. Being a bit of a foodie, I love to venture out, try new places and enjoy different variations on similar cuisine. Some experiences have been better than others. The menu was full of interesting dishes, I chose the Chili Reneo with eggplant and shrimp - AMAZING!!! We also enjoyed fried sweet plantains. I won't tell you the name of the dish my date enjoyed, that was the last day it was being served. Our waiter told us the menu changes based on what's in season. Nice!!! Bonus - if your a Tequila lover Paxia provideds an excellent selection of Tequila, one oft the largest selections I've seen in this area. We enjoyed our nice dinner and drinks before heading downtown to see Harry Connick, Jr. in concert. While we live more than an hour a way, we'll be back I'm sure on a future visit to the Big City.

Hung out with some friends here on a recent Friday night. The place was pretty empty for the weekend. We were the only patrons there when we left. We did not have any food but we did try some tequila-based cocktails that were very good and they have an extensive menu of different tequilas. After a couple of cocktails, we all had a beer. Prices are decent. The atmosphere is pretty laid back. Nice decor. They close at 11 pm which is kind of lame in my opinion, but that's Orlando for you. Paxia is a more upscale alternative for drinks in this area than hanging at Scruffy Murphy's or the other bar down the street.

We just stopped through to check out the tequila menu and have a quick drinky-poo. The tequila menu is outta control! Tons to choose from and a nice bartender to tell you all about them. It was also my friends birthday and she was gifted a nice little drink shaker, which was a cute gesture. I would love to make it back to check the menu out and take in the full ambiance of the place.

This is one of the first places I checked out upon moving to the College Park area, though until last weekend I'd been to it only twice. (And I didn't even eat during one visit; I just went in for a drink and a tequila with some friends one time, and another time I got some carryout for lunch.) During my visit with a friend last weekend, we went for brunch ... so I STILL cannot comment too much of the food at Paxia ... but I'll do my best to provide a review, nonetheless. My friend and I were seated right away during our visit last Sunday and received some pretty good service, which was a little surprising since I have read some of the comments here on Yelp about the subpar and/or nonexistent service that some of you suffered through. Our server, Eduardo, was very knowledgeable about the menu and came by regularly to provide refills for our iced teas, and we didn't have any issues with him disappearing for long stretches or what have you. For brunch, I had some sort of egg, bacon and cheese concoction with chorizo and ... well, I forget what else. It also came with home fries and green salsa/salsa verde (I think that's what it was). I can't remember the exact name of what I ordered, and I'm unsure if I can figure it out at this time as, unfortunately, the Paxia website provides only happy hour and dinner menus ... unless I'm blind, I don't see a brunch menu on there. Oh, well. The food was good, though I'm not sure if I'd go out of my way to pay a visit here. (Thankfully, I live only a few minutes away. Not sure I'd ever go here if I lived in, say, the Dr. Phillips area.) My friend and I also shared tamales, which I enjoyed. My friend noted that perhaps the tamales were supposed to come with goat cheese (I believe that's what she said the menu mentioned), but I didn't taste or see any. I forget what she had as her main brunch, but she seemed to enjoy it. Eduardo offered us dessert, and we accepted ... though I now wish I hadn't. I still am reasonably disappointed in the dessert I received. I ordered a fried vanilla ice cream and my friend had a strawberry (I think?) flan. I didn't try the flan, but the ice cream was not at all what I was expecting. I've had fried ice cream before, so I thought I knew what was on its way when I ordered it ... but I was extremely surprised with what I received. I was given a bowl with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream, which was covered with what I think were shaved cinnamon or coconut pieces. Now, I know what "fried" means ... and this wasn't. Google "fried ice cream," and that's what you should expect. Instead, I received a scoop of vanilla ice cream with coconut shavings all over it. It wasn't fried. I don't know if the definition of "fried" means something different over at Paxia, but I know it to mean only one thing ... and this wasn't it. I didn't say anything to Eduardo, or to my friend ... and I ate the entire thing ... but I easily could've returned it and asked for something else as it 100% WAS NOT what the menu said it should be. Highly disappointing. Come to think of it, my friend didn't entirely finish her flan, so maybe that was pretty lousy, too. (I didn't ask.) I want to say that the "mystery dessert" I received was the worst part about the trip, but it wasn't. I believe the "fried" (HA!) ice cream here is somewhere between $4-$5. Whatever. So, basically I paid $5 for whatever that was that I ate when I could've gone to Rainbow Sno-Cones and maybe ordered 3 sno-cones for less than $5, if I felt the urge to. Ugh. It's not just the prices of the desserts that'll bring a tear to your eye here, either - lots, if not all, of the stuff on the Paxia menu seems very cringe-worthy, as far as what you'll be asked to pay. My bill for half an order of tamales (I think?), my brunch entree, some iced teas and the dessert came to $21 and change, but since Eduardo did a pretty decent job, I made the total out to be $25. I hope Paxia and Eduardo enjoyed it, because I'm unsure I'll be returning anytime soon. If I do, perhaps it'll be to try something for dinner, one of the many types of tequila available (that may be Paxia's saving grace) or to give brunch another shot. It certainly won't be for whatever they serve in lieu of "fried" ice cream, that's for sure. Don't order that if you go - you've been warned. Overall, Paxia offers a lot on its menu that seems authentic, though in all honesty I am no Mexican food connoisseur. I enjoy more "dive"-like Mexican places, food trucks, the occasional trip to Tijuana Flats and some other places. I did notice many things on the menu here that I'd never heard of, so perhaps those of you who are very much into this cuisine will enjoy it more than I did. However, I can't suggest that you go out of your way to make it over here and, like I said, shy away from that ice cream or whatever it was. If you go here and are feeling the dessert vibe afterwards, go to Twisted Bliss or Rainbow Sno-Cones. You'll be much better off.

We stopped in to have a light lunch. We split the nachos and each had a salad. Since I was with my veggie daughter, the nachos were vegetarian. They were good, nothing special. I had the avacado salad, which was ok, but a little bland. My daughter got the salad with cactus in it. She thought it was very salty and was not impressed. Others have noted that the food is inconsistent. Perhaps were went on the off day. Probably won't be hurrying back.

Paxia is a new Mexican restaurant in College Park it opened around June 1, 2008. They took over the old Moe's location on Edgewater drive. I read about it in the Orlando Weekly yesterday and stopped by for lunch today. The restaurant looked very modern with vivid colors on the walls and cloth table cloths - covered with butcher paper. The menus were uncluttered with just a few items. Items that you would expect at a Mexican restaurant, there were 6 priced at $7.00 to $7.50. Were greeted with a smile and chips and salsa were not far behind. The chips were nice and the salsa was also good. From the menu I chose the Chicken Enchilada at $7. Others at the table chose Flautas $7.25, Soft Tacos $7.50, and Burritos $7.50. The wait was a little longer than I would have expected considering the number of people in the restaurant. When our plates arrived they looked quite nice. All of the dishes we ordered came with bean and rice. The rice was rather unremarkable, nowhere near as good as say El Portros . The beans needed salt and there was none on the table. My enchiladas were good but again nothing special. The tacos the one of our dining partners had were soggy he said he would not be returning. The flautas were not very filling was the comment I heard. This a place that I wanted to be good. Maybe I'll stop back by in a few months to see if it has improved.

Great place to stop in for Happy Hour at the bar. The fried fish tacos $3.95 were pretty good with crispy cooked fish and lightly topped with sauce and cabbage. They weren't the best I've ever had, but they were spectacular for the price. The sangria had some sort of liquor in it so it was more potent than expected and I prefer mine less sweet. No complaints for a nice after work hangout, but I don't know that I would come here for a full dinner meal.

So me and my boyfriend (at the time) are sitting at the bar reading the menu and we got into a disagreement about Chipotle peppers. He was saying that a Chipotle pepper is its own pepper, I was like "No, it's a smoked Jalapeno." Now to clear up this controversy, who better to ask then an employee at a Mexican restaurant, right? Wrong. I asked the bartender. She didn't know. So I go above her and ask the manager. He did not know either! The MANAGER of a Mexican restaurant did not know that a Chipotle pepper was a smoked Jalapeno! So I reached for my phone and referred to Google. I won! Their food reflected this. The only thing I liked was the Margaritas and the Guac.....but I can do that.

I really wanted to love Paxia. Really. I love College Park and I'm a big fan of supporting local businesses...and I just haven't found a go-to place in Orlando for Mexican food--specifically, I'm on the prowl for an A+ tamale joint. Well friends, this isn't it. While I liked the atmosphere, service was a bit odd (our server kept talking about how hungry she was and dishes that looked good...had she ever tasted any of the food?), and it took about 15-20 minutes to get our drinks. The food however is what ultimately makes the restaurant, and at Paxia it was just kind of blah. We ordered queso fundito which was fine--not great, but no bad either. I had the tamales, and when I first saw them I had a feeling my quest for awesome mealiness was not going to end that night. They arrive already out of their corn husk...the husk was there, but more as a plating thing than actually part of the preparation of the food. The tamale itself was dry and not very good, but carnitas inside was alright. Needless to say, dessert was a no-go. I think this place has some potential but it really fell short during my visit.

The menu was very limited and it was expensive. The food did not have a lot taste. The service was was extremely slow. We were the only table in the entire restaurant for a good 15 minutes and it took that long to get service. After awhile, some more tables came into the restaurant but we watched them get up and walk out as they were not receiving service.

Amazing. Paxia makes mexican food cool again with the uber-hip lounge-like atmosphere and dim lighting. As for their tag line, "expect the unexpected," it's a but misleading because what you are essentially ordering here are tacos, enchiladas, and margaritas--pretty much what you would expect from a mexican restaurant. You wouldn't be able to tell, but this place used to be a Moe's Southwestern Grill, so it looks like the location traded up a bit. As for the service, it's OK...a little up tight in my opinion and the food is OK as well.

Visited twice at dinner, once with a girlfriend and once for New Year's Eve with hubs. Not in any hurry to go back. The food is way, way way overpriced for the quality. I had a coupon from one of the local mailers for the first time and the second we just chose it as close to the house. I wouldn't say the food is bad. It's just not memorable. In fact, it's just passable. If you're going to charge almost $20 for an entree, at least serve it with warm, fresh tortillas. Hubs and I each had the carnitas platter on NYE and it just felt like it was lacking. In what? I don't know. It just didn't have any pizazz. Which is acceptable for comfort food, Southern or soul food, or even just traditional $8 burrito and free chips Mexican restaurant food. You don't expect GREAT when you leave a restaurant for less than $15 per person with tip. When you're paying that much for one entree, you expect at least tasty. The margaritas are fairly weak and also overpriced. The biggest shame besides the lack of tequila...and THAT is shameful...is that this place has such great potential from the location, marketing and ambience. It's really a pleasant little restaurant. But if you're going to bill yourself as "gourmet" Mexican and charge accordingly, you need to deliver on that.

This place has really gone downhill over the past few years. When I originally went to Paxia it was fantastic (especially during happy hour). The food was great and the margaritas were top notch. However, I've been really let down the past couple of times I've gone and after this last trip I don't think I'll be returning. The margaritas now taste like a watered down mix and the food quality has suffered as well. I used to love the Tacos Al Pastor and the chicken skewer, but the last time I went they were both pretty bland. So sad to see how subpar this place has become.

Paxia is a great stop for your Mexican stand-by's or some fun Mexican inspired dishes! I have had a number of different selections from their menu. Most recently I enjoyed the chicken fajitas. Very flavorful, fresh and a perfect portion size. They come with fresh guac, which is super tasty! I have also enjoyed their enchiladas and stuffed peppers. The chips and salsa are perfect. The atmosphere is nice, nothing too fancy or casual. They have good happy hour specials and I have never been there when I had to wait for a table. I have been with a large group and that was a bit slow and troublesome, but it was right after Paxia opened, so I am sure they have figured out group service. Parking is fairly easy on the streets surrounding, with the exception of Fri and Sat nights, so give yourself some time to drive around on the hunt for a spot. Enjoy!

I am not a fan of Mexican food. In fact, I would venture to say it is among my least favorite. I just don't get the hype - isn't it all the same? Some sort of meat and bean and usually cheese concoction, sometimes fried, sometimes not? Having said that, let me say I adore Paxia. Maybe it's the discounted margaritas talking, but the food here is delicious. Upon my last visit I was introduced to the crab queso dip (double yum) and had the shrimp sauteed in olive oil. Muy bueno!

Gilded Feather Award for "Lipstick on a Burrito Award" This place sure knows how to class up Mexican cuisine. Even though I'm an ardent fan of Mexican food, I can admit that it doesn't always have the best plate presentation. Well, Paxia Alta is a place you can feel save taking a dating to. In fact, I recommend it. FOOD Tasty food , definitely some of the best Mexican I've had in Orlando. It was authentic. I had the cheese enchiladas. It comes with a side of rice and beans (both black and refried are available.) Chips and salse were excellent as well. The salsa was very fresh and had nice dosage of cilantro. It wasn't very spicy, (it's wasn't mild, just kinda in the middle.) Fajitas also look great, although I didn't order them. SERVICE My server was astute, knowledgeable and pleasant. Prices are also reasonable, especially if you go during lunch ($7.99 for burritos, quesadillas and enchiladas, a little more for fajitas.) For those looking for good mexican close to downtown, look no farther, says Keats.

I'd been to Paxia before and liked their skirt steak but recently went there for margaritas and when I returned to my vehicle less than two hours later, I found it had been towed. I called the tow company and the car had been taken less than 30 minutes after I had arrived. The owner said it was the landlords issue and he had no control. The towing company wasn't there to release my car when I got to the location (in a bad area) and it essentially took the whole night to get my car back. Bottom line: No skirt steak/margarita is worth that ($100 tow fee and a lot of nastiness and non-cooperation from the towing company). I'm not the only one who has experienced this and any business that doesn't protect it's patrons is not one worth going to.

Great atmosphere but the food isn't that great... We had the guacamole which was very small and then queso which was pretty good. The carnitas and the seafood enchiladas were terrible. The Margarita's were very weak. Service is outstanding but I won't be back.

  • Pam C.

I did not think the margarita was very good, it's ok. Same with the food. The salsa and chips that comes with isn't very good. They have CNBC on tv.

I have only been here once, but I would come again. Their queso fundido was very good, the portion was enough for 4 guest. However it does not come with tortilla. We ate it with the tortilla chips that came with the salsa instead. In the end the manager came out and gave us dessert on the house because of loud patrons.

Good all around. Traditional fresh and great service. Nice place too. Place took a change for the best. I like that it's not always too busy and easy to come in and enjoy and awesome happy hour. That probably won't last once people realize it's awesome.

Everything I've ever had here to eat, or drink, was fantastic. I've had nothing but great service (perhaps my waitress recently was overly enthusiastic, but maybe they are trying to correct anything stated in prior reviews).

I'm not the only one who has experienced this and any business that doesn't protect it's patrons is not one worth going to.

the guacamole is very good. Both of our entree were very good as well.. it is always dead in there, which is strange because the prices are fair and the food is very good. I had the shrimp and plantains and my wife had fajitas.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
