Got a Cuban Sandwich with Black beans for lunch today. While the sandwich bread was indeed fresh, it wasn't Cuban bread!!! Black beans were average at best. All in all, edible for $5.99.

Small and cozy restaurant, across the street from SoDo. Really tasteful food at an affordable price. Pernil is the best!! Yummy!

Burnt my food my midia noche's wax paper was now attached to the sandwich....so I returned it. Went back home with a new one...my sides were gone. New sandwich was still burned. Went back, waitress was rude. I asked for money back. She was even ruder and I wanted to go ape shit on the whole 'restaurant' - ruined my lunch.

I gotta be honest... I would never take my Cuban stepmother here. I tried the guava chicken twice, and both times it was very tough and dry. The sides were good, though. The arroz con pollo was much better, more tender and flavorful. On a different occasion I tried the vegetarian option, "vegetables mixtos," which was totally pathetic and insulting to vegetarians everywhere! Despite what the menu said, it consisted of Chinese stir fry veggies, including baby corn (?!) covered in a light brown sauce--not exactly an authentic Cuban creation. Contrast this with ZaZa, which offers a great vegetarian dish consisting of rice, beans, and plantains topped with lettuce and tomato. How hard is that? Ambience and service are both okay but nothing amazing.

Not quite what I was expecting but the smells permeating the dining room makes me want to come back again to try their entrees. I ordered a Media Noche because I had a hankering for a Cuban sandwich. My boyfriend ordered the Cuban and there seemed to be very little difference between the two - they literally have the same insides but appear to have different breads. Not sure the logic behind that one or perhaps I know less about Cuban sandwiches than I thought I did. It was good, just wasn't what I was expecting. I like crispy, pressed Cuban sandwiches and this had a softer, warm bread. The tostones rellenos appetizer we ordered were fantastic - shredded stewed chicken, it definitely makes me want to try their other larger, savory options next time.

For a restaurant that calls itself 'number one' in spanish and the best cuban restaurant north of Miami; I was dissapointed. First, I have not known a cuban restaurant not to carry vaca frita. Second, mofongo is mainly puerto rican. Thirdly a cuban restaurant would call their pork lechon, not pernil. Btw, their 'pernil' sandwich was salty and dry. The appetizers were good, which saved them from a 2 star rating in my book. There are plenty other cuban selections in Orlando that offer a better and more authentic experience.

Driving down Orange Avenue, with its barrage of chain restaurants and strip malls, you could literally blink and miss this little gem. We happened upon Numero Uno randomly one night while playing the "what do you want to eat?" game. Small and unassuming, this is great Cuban food! The staff are very sweet and helpful. The food is delish! We always order yuca and tostones for our appetizers. So good. My favorite thing on the menu is the Asopado de Camerones: a thick tomato based soup with shrimp and rice. Yummers! The shrimp are cooked perfectly and the soup is a little spicy. Try the tres leches or the flan for desert. Both hit the spot. The only draw back is the parking lot. It takes a stunt driver to maneuver in and out of the spaces.

After eating here many times, I have decided this is my current favoite place for chicken and yellow rice, it is just outstanding here.

Ok wow!! After a long day at Island of Adventures in Universal park we were starving before we headed over to Orlando Brewery. We wanted something that we cannot get at home (the other side of Florida). Numero Uno was recommended to us from one of the ladies at the Brewery and boy did we love it. We overloaded on the food that we wanted to try, so we went all out and tried a variety of item and we were very very satisfied. We went home with leftovers and enjoyed them the next night, the day of my first half marathon run that took place in St Pete. I highly recommend this to everyone!!

Family restaurant that has good food and quick service. Tried the mufungo and black bean soup and both have great flavor. For the main I tried the shredded pork with beans/rice and again was pleased. I am not a Cuban aficionado but I will say from the feedback I got with those I went with, this is a good spot to eat for a great price. Would go back again.

Ok, had I the possibility to rate and review this 12 yrs ago, this would have been different. It "Used" to be a great spot for Latin food. Anymore, the place has just disappointed my wife and I. She used to go there before we even met, 15 yrs ago. We've been there four times since we've been married, 13 yrs, and each time has been worse than the time before, the food has lost it's merit, the owners are not the same and this may be the reason for the lack of care taken in the kitchen. If anyone can or should be able to make a Cuban sandwich, a restaurant calling themselves, "Cuban', should be able to pull it off...it saddens me, as we live around here and love Latin food. Officially, they really should rename their restaurant to, 'Numero Dos'.

I first tried this place about a year ago. I went in search of good cuban (i was raised in miami) and this place looked promising. The staff was nice, the restaurant was charming and very "cuban" with a variety of mementos on the walls and tables. However, the food was bland and banal at best. While I'm probably a lot pickier than the average customer, this place wasn't quite what I was hoping for. I haven't been back since, and I wouldn't tout it as the best cuban place in town at all. Give it a try, I may have just gone there on an off night, but i wouldn't recommend it if you're hankering for some authentic Bistec de Palomilla.

This place is adorable. It tries very hard to be an upscale, family style Cuban restuarant and it does a good enough job. The location is small but I think that makes it feel less commercial and like they really care about providing you a familial dining experience. The food is good. I went super basic and had Arroz con Pollo. The portion was large and cooked well - not dry chicken. The madoros were sweet. It was an overall good Cuban restuarant...nothing like my grandmother's cooking but gets the job done. There was an older man in a suit on a keyboard right next our table playing and singing. He was so smiley...it was the most adorable thing. That probably put the experience over the edge for me.

Visiting from Canada, and our hunt for authentic Cuban lead us to Numero Uno based on the Yelp reviews. We were not unsatisfied. We split a giant half roast chicken and yellow rice with our two youngest kids Our oldest son had La Pareja - Bistec & Pollo Salteado cooked with onions, green peppers and chorizo. Served with yellow rice and black beans, My wife had Bistec Saltedo: Pepper steak, strips of steak grilled with plenty of onions, green peppers and chorizo. Served with yellow rice and black beans. I had a Cuban sandwich. All the food was excellent and authentic, prices reasonable and service warm and friendly.

This place is one of my absolute favorites - their food is to die for, and their sangria is the best I've ever had. Love the staff, too - they are very gracious and attentive!

Numero Uno is a fun, neighborhood Cuban restaurant. The dining area is small, but food is moderately priced and well prepared. A really great feature is the live music on weekend nights. An old gentleman sets up an electric keyboard in a corner and just jams all night. Even though he always flirts with my dates, he's does it with enough panache that I don't mind. I hope to be that smooth one day. Classic Cuban dishes are done well here. Ropa Vieja is delicious, as is boliche and pernil. They make a great shrimp mofongo with lots of garlic and their soups, especially the caldo gallego, are warm and filling. Most entrees come with rice and black beans or yucca. Dessert is, for me at least, all about the tres leches cakes. I've had the flan (awesome) and dulce de leche (so-so) also. There's a modest wine list and a couple of beers available, along with a solid Sangria. If you go for the Sangria, be aware that they mix the wine with some sort of fruit juice, then pour the mixture into a wine glass with chopped fruit in it. On my last trip, my gal warned them of a serious strawberry allergy, was told they could handle it, then was presented a glass with strawberries in it and fairly indistinct answers about what went into the wine. Needless to say, she had a beer. Parking isn't easy, but if the lot is full, there' plenty of parking across Orange Ave and on the streets.

A taste of Cuban in Orlando would be a great name for Numero Uno. When first entering my party of 8 was greeted immediately with a nice warm smile and a good afternoon from all of the staff. We were seated immediately within cozy family style size dining area. The menu has a good amount to choose from for the dinner section, and the lunch items all appeared to be tempting. I however was drawn to the lunch special which was Ropa Vieja that came with salad and plantains. I ordered Jupina for a drink the Pineapple delightful sugar in a can. Another member of the group ordered Mofongo as an appetizer(Plantains in a bowl together with a side Garlic sauce) that gave me the instant I will be back for this feeling. They served Cuban bread to keep us busy while waiting for the food to cook. (Delicious) Once we received the dishes everything lived upped to its name along with the service. The only downside is the parking lot. Bring a lot of patience and good driving skills when trying to park and pull out.

Can I just say, what the heck?! Why has it taken me so long to try this place? Cuban has to be one of my all time favorites, yet no one ever told me how good Numero Uno is! Having grown up on the opposite side of town, I was used to the many Cuban options that were around me. Since moving to the Downtown area I have been struggling to find a really good Cuban place. Numero Uno is exactly what I have been looking for. I had the Ropa Vieja with white rice and platanos - to die for! The Ropa Vieja was cooked to perfection and the sauce was a-mazing. Don't waste your time with wanna be hipster Cuban sandwich shops, Numero Uno is where its at.

Great food and great service. I've eaten here about 5 fimes and it's pretty consistent - which is good. The palomilla is really good. The only issue is the limited parking. The lot is very small and sometimes difficult to get in and out of. Try it!! You won't regret it.

I've been eating here for over 20 years. I always get the same thing: the papa relenas lunch special (#7). I could eat it every day. Consistently good and cheap too.

Truly delicious cubarican cuisine. My favorite mofongo in town. They have the BEST tostones rellenos i've ever had (the shredded chicken in them is nothing less than perfection). Masitas de cerda are a highlight *tip* you can get the sides on any entree upgraded to mofongo for a slight upcharge if you ask, and it's worth it.

Great atmosphere small homestyle dining room. Try the empanadas an the midnight Cuban sand-which. Service can be slow but only because they get so busy especially around lunch time. If you're a local business owner or just have a card they will allow you to display your card under the glass at any table. Overall a great experience a must stop Cuban diner for Orlando. I love the food but the service is haphanded and not adequate. Plenty of cozy home feelings but seriously needing a modern update. The facilities are small but always clean the food portions are abudent lunch or early diner either way Buen Provecho

Went on date with my lady recently and we left our plates mid meal. She found a hair in her food, the waitress wasn't apologetic, and it took a while to get such poor service.

  • Ketron B.

I love Cuban cuisine and the flavors they get from slow roasting pork and beef. Unfortunately Numero Uno is far from being a number one representation of authentic Cuban food. I had the lunch special of ropa vieja which lacked any flavor until I drowned it in Louisiana hot sauce. The decor was comfortably and cozy but service was also lacking as I went the entire meal with an empty water glass. Parking for this restaurant is a big hassle and not worth the effort for the food being served.

Llike cuban food? Then you'll like this unassuming little cuban restaurant located just south of downtown in what's the up and coming SODO area. Yes- that is the acronym for South Of Downtown Orlando! Don't expect fancy decor ( but at least it's clean) or cooking just cheap but good cuban staples such as ropa vieja, rice and beans and plantains. A word to the wise... Get there early! Their parking lot is beyond tiny and in today's world of super huge SUV's getting out of the lot can be a nightmare. The last time I was there one of the guys in the kitchen came out and helped me execute what must have been a 20 point turn.

I was so excited to give this place a try. It really looked promising and I was hoping I could finally find a good cuban restaurant to eat. Let me start off by describing the appearance of the restaurant. The parking lot is really small and you have to be really careful when driving your car in. Now the restaurant inside has mirrors on the wall that will trick you into thinking the restaurant is bigger than what it is. The walls are filled with cuban momentos and there is a man that plays the piano inside. Now the waitress that took our order seemed to be a little rude when I was ordering. I ordered the steak sandwich and a mango shake. My boyfriend ordered a cuban sandwich and a pineapple shake. We ordered everything to go and it did take a while longer than what I thought it would take for the food to be ready. When I got home I noticed that they forgot to add swiss cheese to my steak sandwich. The bread is not completely toasted its more like warmed up bread. The shakes did not even taste like the fruit itself and were watered down. I also agree that the sandwiches were quite bland and would need more flavor.

I grew up on Cuban food in Miami. My grandfather and my mother cook the best Cuban food in the world! I tried this place a couple of times and it's not that good. It's not really even true Cuban food. Everyone was very nice and the decor was awesome, but the food was not good enough to keep me coming back.

My 100th review! W00t. Okay, so... Numero Uno means 'Number One' in English. And... it's probably the number one spot in town to get cuban food, so there we is! Located right near Michigan and Orange sits this little humble restaurant that is straight out of Miami or some other multicultural mecca. As you enter, you'll notice that the decor is cozy, quaint yet bustling with activity and charms from afar. The dining area is clean and inviting. Please have a seat, señor. The menu is stacked and the lunch options cannot be beat! Many of the lunches hover around $6, and the portions are just right for a power lunch or sensible feast. I loved my Cuban sandwich with black beans. My brother got the vegetarian platter which he liked mucho. The staff is very friendly and attentive. They run a tight ship here and it shows. The only downside I can see is that the parking situation is frightening. They can't do much about it though, as they're sandwiched between Checkers and a mini-mall. I only saw a few spots and the one I chose pretty much forced me to back out onto Orange Ave. Definitely check this place out.

Cuban bread, meats, cheese, pickles, and mustard...yum...Numero Uno Cuban Shop has the cuban sandwich perfected! Located on S. Orange near Michigan Ave., this is one of my favorite neighborhood eateries. Rather on the small side, this is a great place to grab something to go for lunch, or sit down for a quick dinner before a night on the town. The service is decent and the prices are affordable. If you are in the area this is a place you've gotta try out!

Service was very friendly and not slow. Fried sweet plantains, green plantain chips, pork chunks (mesitas? Cerdo), and empanadas were all very good. The old guy playing Sinata tunes on the keyboard was a nice touch. I don't know much about Cuban food, but according to all the awards on their walls, they are very authentic. Simple, basic, flavorful, comfort food. For the $, hard to beat.

I have been going here before I can even remember. Definitely top 5 Cuban in Orando. Use to be my favorite as a kid but I have a few that I now find better. Service can some times be slow for dinner one of the main draw backs and I like restaurants who have a daily/weekly special and they don't. I would recommend the Palamia steak. The black beans, rice and plantains are good. They have gotten cheap on the plantains I only got 2 small ones last time I was there. This place is comfort food and I am happy to see one of the restaurants I grew up with is still going strong.

I'm no connoisseur of Cuban food, but as far as I can tell, it was on point. I had the bistec de palomilla- very tasty, perfect balance of steak and onions. We tried the ropa vieja, which was delicious and well appreciated by our little one, and the picadillo was great too. The best part was that we had a lot of time to eat, and then we realized the USA-Ghana game was on. They graciously turned on the game for us, and we watched it with the staff (it wasn't that busy at 3 pm). The atmosphere was great, really friendly, and on a belly full of delicious food, the USA loss wasn't as sad.

Really tasty Cuban food. Not just sandwiches, but real entrees. I had the guava-glazed chicken, which was yummy. My son ordered the fried chicken, which was pan-fried, not deep-fried. It was excellent too.

I have been dining here for many years now. They serve up some authentic Cuban food . They always have a couple of specials on the board. I usually get chicken with yellow rice and plantains. It comes with a salad. And the price is under $7. Extremely reasonable! I would highly recommend this place if you're in the mood for Cuban food.

Numero Uno is a small Cuban Restaurant located near the corner of Orange Ave. and Michigan in Orlando. I've been searching for a place to get good Cuban food for a while so when I had the opportunity to check this place out I was all in! 1. Parking: Horrible! This restaurant is on the smaller side and the parking lot is very small. There are about 12 parking spots in the whole lot and they are very small and difficult to maneuver into. Just an FYI. 2. The Venue: Small but quaint with dim lighting. The staff members that we encountered were all friendly and service was pretty good as well. 3. The Food: G R E A T ! ! ! ! The menu has several options including chicken, seafood, beef and pork entrees. Several appetizers and desert options as well. They start with a basket of Cuban bread and butter which was warm and really good. After careful deliberation I ordered the Pollo Salteado which was grilled chicken breast with peppers and onions. It was served with a side of white rice, black beans, and plantains. OMG it was SOOOOO good. The chicken was grilled perfectly and seasoned just right. The flavor was magical. I'm normally not a big fan of white rice, but this white rice was phenomenal. And the black beans and plantains were fantastic as well! The whole meal was excellent! The meal was about $12. They have lunch specials Monday through Friday. I can't wait to go back to Numero Uno. There are so many other options that I can't wait to go back and try!

Yummy!!!!!!! The older I get the more flavor I desire and Numero Uno exceeded my expectations! I ordered the Mojo chicken yellow rice and plantains. It was delish and the 1/2 chicken was huge! Service was quick and the food didn't take very long to reach the table. If you are looking for a cosy spot with not a lot of noise this is the perfect place, the lighting is dim which provides for a peaceful atmosphere. Keep in mind what time of day you would like to dine-in. Parking is horrible and the actual parking spots are not to code. I'm certain someone went outside on their own and just painted parking lines. The lines are off and even compact cars can't fit in some of them. Be aware because leaving can become chaotic if more than one vehicle is trying to leave. I would totally go back to try something else but I'm not driving next time.

My first time here, going in with no expectations. Vibe was a mom and pop establishment Cuban style. Simple flavorful food, nothing fancy. Cuban basics and popular dishes. Will definitely be returning. Service was on key and polite. Never felt rushed or received a hint of impatience by waitress, very sweet young lady. Towards the end of our meal I was greeted by an older gentleman (I assumed he was manager or owner) to thank us for coming. Friendly, welcoming, good hospitality. I'll take pictures next time I go.

Great place to grab a quick lunch at. Service was fast and friendly, and the food was yummy. The prices online are not correct, and the lunches actually start at $5.99. I ordered the picadillo, and it came with white rice, a side salad, black beans, and tostones. It hit the spot! Definitely will come back again.

Good was good, but a little bit over priced for what it was. Sweet plantains and fresh bread were great! I will go back to try the Cuban sandwich.

So I'll keep it short, I'm a Jersey born raised in Miami Cuban and my opinion of Numero Uno...umm NO! It's a cheap imitation of Cuban food and the smell was really bad it reeked of mildew or something this building is really old and not in good standing. I totally lost my appetite and barely ate. Not a good place to run a restaurant from they need to move elsewhere and try again.

    (1)

Food was excellent and very good service. For lunch the prices were just the way they should be. But parking is scarce and very tight fit. I would definitely recommend it. Truly authentic Cuban Food!

I was looking for a place to grab some coffee and work remotely when I realized I forgot to eat today. I saw Numero Uno and Cuban food hit me right so I pulled in. I will warn you now that their parking lot is small... DO NOT park in the bank's parking lot next door or they WILL tow you. The outside of the building has some cool artwork on the side where the parking lot is and when you walk inside, it has the feel of being in little Havana. The staff were very friendly and seated me right away. I wanted a window seat and they moved me without any question. Soon after that the lunch rush showed up and service slowed down a bit but in all fairness, the place filled up in about 15 minutes. I was amazed. I ordered my unsweetened iced tea but had to settle for a lemon since they did not offer limes. I am a little puzzled that they offer Corona beer and don't have limes so that is a detail they should revisit in my opinion. Even the gentleman I was talking to that is a long time regular finds it odd they do not have limes in a Cuban Restaurant and he is heading to Cuba for a visit in 10 days. I ordered the Mofongo and the Cuban Sandwich and my server pointed out the lunch special of a Cuban Sandwich and Black Bean Soup that would have saved me some money. I really appreciated that but elected to stick to what I was in the mood for even though it cost more. About 15 minutes later my Mofongo arrived and I will say... It was one of the best I have had in Orlando. The taste and texture was spot on and the sauce was served on the side. It has some bits meat in the sauce and really complemented the Mofongo without overpowering the flavor. I was down to the last 4 bites when my Cuban Sandwich arrived. The presentation was a little blah but the taste was excellent. The pulled pork had a great flavor and the ham was not too salty. I prefer a few more pickles but that is just my personal preference. The bread however was a rock star! If you want a good Cuban Sandwich, it all starts with the bread! If the worst I can say is the parking lot is too small, they don't have limes and I would have preferred a few more pickles.... That means they did a great job during a busy lunch and believe me... It was busy...

What can I say? It was exactly what I expected. The cuban was a solid cuban sandwich, nothing spectacular, I did like that the lunch special came with a side and I could swap out the black beans for plantains which were pretty good. I'd consider going back, but certainly wouldn't go out of my way. Black Bean Deli or Latin Square are much better for a cuban sandwich. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their platters more than I enjoyed my sandwich, so maybe if I went back I would try something else.

  • Reshma R.

It's a small Cuban hole in the wall type of restaurant with limited parking. I had their number 6 lunch special, and it was the comfort food I needed. I don't find much authentic Cuban food, but this is the place to go if you want that homey, authentic lunch or dinner experience.

  • Amber H.

I have been coming here since I moved to Orlando 8 years ago. This place is top notch in my book. I love the comfort food that they serve. Honestly, it is hard for me to order since I have soo many favorites! Diego and the staff always make me feel at home too. The ropa vieja is probably my number one, but I like to eat half and take the rest home so I can enjoy some beef and cheese empanadas as well. I have a hard time trying not to eat all of the hot bread they serve while they prepare your food. A side of black beans is necessary too. And don't forget to save room for the tres leche. The lunch meals are a steal for the price! Hard to decide between one of the Cuban sandwiches or the papa rellenos. Decisions do not come easy for me at this restaurant! Don't forget to enhance your experience with a glass of sangria, wine, or beer. They serve most of the bottles I drink at home (but without the serious up charge)!

  • Maritza B.

I ordered Fiesta Cubana plate $14, the food was cool/warm, the rice was not fresg (mix old rise with black beans), the ropa vieja/boliche was greese with too much unflavored tomatoe sauce. My partner ordered a Palomilla, the white rise was cold and not fresh, the cheese flan, batido and amarillos were good, not excellent. For a $36.47 this was not a good culinary experience, next time I will go to Guavate Rest were the quality and flavor of food is excellent..

This is Beth and my favorite Cuban restaurant north of Miami. Normally I am not a fan of black beans and rice, but Numero Uno's is heavenly! It is a "must lunch visit" whenever I am back in Orlando!

On vacation from NY. We googled Spanish foods places to eat. And found número uno. Omg the air conditioner was blasting. Being a small place it felt so cold that the food turned cold on the plate. My husband asked for a fish he said it tasted like cardboard. My daughter asked for Fried chicken and she got chicken stewed. I asked for green plantains and got sweet ones. My son as a joke asked for a beer and he wasn't ID. He was given a beer. Food was tasteless !!!! Never again on the way to Boca Raton Florida to finish our vacation. Can't wait to eat at our favorite place down there. Little Havana restaurant here we come !

What a little hidden gem! Went here for a birthday dinner and was pleasantly surprised. Parking for the restaurant was a little tough but doable. The dining room itself was pretty small, so don't expect a lot of space. The food was simple but oh so flavorful! I ended up having the steak and beans and i basically licked my plate clean! My cousin had the chicken to which he couldn't stop talking about as well. One thing I couldn't stop talking about ordering was dessert. I had my eye fixed on their flan de queso. 1/2 flan and 1/2 cheesecake! I mean REALLY? My two favorite desserts! But when I went to order it, I came to find out they were all out for the day. So I'm definitely coming back.

Friends of mine have told me about Numero Uno and I have been wanting to go for a while now but never seemed to get around to it... until another friend had his birthday dinner there and invited me to go! I am so glad I was able to finally enjoy this cozy place. Once I found a place to park my car (parking seems to be scarce around this area), I found my friends had already gotten a large table for our group. We all ordered carafes of red wine to go with dinner (it is the least expensive way to get wine for a group). Now my mom was Cuban so I have had the pleasure of tasting many Cuban dishes from her side of the family. Everything I try I have to compare to that. My favorite Cuban place was actually located in Key West Florida but it has disappeared and every place I have tried since then has been okay but not as good as that place... until now! I ordered the Bistec Empanizado (breaded steak) with white rice and black beans. It was just as good as my family used to make it! The Cuban bread was good and the flan I had for dessert was just as good. Everybody enjoyed their meals. I did try some of the other dishes my friends had... Ropa Vieja... Picadillo... and Arroz con Pollo. All were very good and tasted like home cooking to me (but my mom's Picadillo is better!) As small as this place is, they were able to squeeze in a man playing Spanish music in the back corner. He was fun and made for some interesting conversations. Atmosphere = 6 Service = 9 Food = 10 All in all, we had a good time celebrating a friends birthday. The decor is a bit dated and needs a remodel but hey, some of the best places for food don't always have the best atmosphere. They gave us good service and great food and it all did not cost an arm and a leg. Enjoy!

Was forced to this place again due to a work meeting. Wow. This place is not Cuban. Pork was decent enough but the rest of the sides were dry and bland. The place smells like a nursing home. Ropa vieja was in tomato sauce....... Tomato sauce!!!!! You want good Cuban? Go to Za-Za's.

Worst experience ever! The sandwiches were cold and the bread was burned! Too expensive for what it is. $19.43 for 2 sandwiches and 2 cups of coffee... Not worth it at all.... There are better Cuban restaurants out there like old Cuban cafe in goldenroad rd. And cafe Pinar by sand lake road. Service is terrible, didn't apologize for the mistakes they did. Also, I asked for splendad sugar and the waiter said that it was too expensive and the couldn't afford it. So they only had regular sugar. Seriously???

I think they may have been over confident when naming themselves "número uno." I tried the black bean soup, which was really watery and taste like straight up onion, and the medianoche, which was a disappointment. On the plus side it has a nice mom and pop vibe, but if you're looking for authentic Cuban food (being Cuban I think I have some authority on the subject), I worked just keep looking.

Cristina N. and I decided to try this little restaurant considering we live down the street from it and pass by it all the time. It's in a great location with plenty of traffic passing by it, but doesn't seem like it has much as far as advertising. They have a small parking area so I can see parking getting tight on busy nights. The dining area is pretty intimate and in an 'L' shape, but looks like it fits about 10+ tables. Service was friendly and prompt. We were seated as soon as we walked in and our waitress never left us hanging too long as far as taking our orders, making sure our beverages were topped off, and checking up on us. I ordered the Cuban Sandwich. It was very good but, in my opinion, had no personality. I feel like my girlfriend makes just as good, if not better, sandwiches at home. It wasn't bad - I thoroughly enjoyed it - it just wasn't anything I'd go out of my way for. I'd like to swing by again and try one of their other entrees. They definitely have a lot on the menu, and seems like a nice place to eat at with such a great location to my home. I'll be back I think.

The food was okay. Not the best cuban food I've ever had but it was edible. The staff was friendly and polite, only thing was that they proceeded to clean around me while i was trying to eat so i decided to take my food home.

I've learned twice in the past week that Numero Uno, a staple of Downtown South, is not Cuban-owned. That explains why I've never felt the Cubano experience here. On my latest visit to Number One, I developed a bad case of Number Two right afterward. Good luck with parking.

This is the go to full service Cuban place in Orlando. We used to drive 45 min. just to go here. Now luckily we are only 10 min. away. If you go for lunch the Cuban sandwich with black bean soup is a fantastic deal. Probably enough to feed two people. Never the less we always order plenty to take home with us too!

Not sure if it's "real" Cuban, but it's good food. Black bean soup is awesome. Plantains were delicious, but he sangria was funky. Get a beer or wine.

I've been craving Numero Uno since I last visited in July! You just can't get Cuban food like this in NY. I loved the big portions and quality of food. I went with two other girls - we each ordered a different protein (one ordered chicken, I ordered beef, etc) then we all ate off of each others' plates. All delicious enough for me to want to return.

  • Kelly H.

Numero Uno looks a bit sketchy and like a hole in the wall....but I always find those to be some of the best places and this one stands true to that! The best time to go is during lunch...they have fantastic prices for huge portions. My favorite dish to get there is Arroz con Pollo, which is chicken and yellow rice. The chicken falls off the bone and the sauce that is over it is so delicious that I have to make sure I don't waste a drop of it! Same goes for the rice! It also comes with plantains and a small side salad. During lunch this meal will cost you about $6.00 which is a great deal for the amount of food you get and the quality. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive. The only downside to this place is the parking. There are about 6 parking spots on the side of the building, other than that you have to park next door in the closed down Checker's parking lot or find somewhere else.

  • Jordan O.

It's a small Cuban hole in the wall type of restaurant with limited parking. I had their number 6 lunch special, and it was the comfort food I needed. I don't find much authentic Cuban food, but this is the place to go if you want that homey, authentic lunch or dinner experience.
