I don't eat fish...which is strange cuz I grew up in Washington State and that's what Washingtonians do. I never really developed a taste for it, so when my buddy told me that for his bday, we were going to Nona Sushi for some red snapper and clams, I was a little hesitant. Of course it's his bday, so he calls the shots. At Nona Sushi, they let you bring your own entree in and they'll cook it up for a nominal fee. Pretty cool deal they got there. We started with the clams, they were steamed in this black bean sauce. I have never--in my life--enjoyed a clam that wasn't dressed in fried batter, knee deep in tartar sauce. These clams were amazing. The black bean sauce they were swimming in was delish. Great start to the meal. Then they brought out the two red snapper we had them prepare. It was steamed in the back and then they cleaned it at our table. I'm not quite sure what the sauce it was sitting in was, but like the clams I was sop crazy trying to soak it up. The fish didn't taste "fishy" if you know what I mean. SO I really enjoyed it, first time for everything right? On the side we got some rice and veggies to go along with the main dish. Asparagus and mushrooms, also awesome. For dessert we got the crème brûlée. Have mercy Uncle Jesse. If you save room for something sweet, this one was the bees knees. At the end of the day, the price was a little steep, but the meal exceeded all my expectations. Lovely decor, excellent host/wait staff. No reason not to go back...maybe I'll end up liking fish after all.

3.5 stars for Nona Sushi I'm always on the look out for a good sushi place, and this one is close to my work! The restaurant is clean and contemporary with a very friendly staff. From the hostess to sushi chefs, everyone took the time to talk to us while we waited for our to-go order. The hostess even helped entertain our toddler son with the water fountain (at the time we were the only ones in the place). They had the typical Japanese selections and apps plus sushi. All of the rolls we tried were very good, my only complaint is that for the price they were too small. We ordered the Bubble roll, Volcano and Sweet Salmon. The fish was fresh and the flavor combos (like the sweet salmon) were unique. We also tried some apps, pot stickers and rangoons. The rangoos were your standard (but with crab, not krab) but the pot stickers had a strange smokey flavor that seemed out of place. You may miss the place, it is behind the McDonald's in a shopping center. I thought we were headed into some apartments but suddenly on the right there was Nona Sushi! I picked up a menu for the furture. I plan to be back but maybe for lunch when the prices are more reasonable!

The place is decorated nicely. The food is a bit pricey for smaller than average size servings. The Kalifornia rolls that came with the bento box was really small. Overall the food was good but probably would not come here for sushi only.

This is a lovely little place that I think is great for sushi novice, like me, because their menu explains the rolls pretty well. Luckily, I also had a friend that knows her sushi. The staff was very friendly and gave us lots of time to decide what we wanted to order. They also were very attentive; refilling beverages and checking to see how everything was. We decided on the Volcano, Mexican, Bubble, and Sweet Potato Rolls. Yum, yum, yum!!! The Volcano was my favorite one followed by the Mexican. Both had a nice little spice kick. I also didn't think any of them needed soy sauce or anything added to them. So very good. I'm so happy to finally have found a variety of rolls that I like to start me out on my sushi adventure!

Good Sushi, great garlic edamame, but the the Bulgogi was the best!

I thought the sushi was sliced too thin. Tastes ok. Rolls were some what decent.

This is my favorite place to eat!! Their garlic lime edamame is to DIE FOR! It's not on the menu, but just ask for it. Amazing. In fact, I've never had anything there I haven't liked. Their volcano roll is one of my favorites as is their Habachi shrimp plate. For dessert you have to try the fried cheesecake. It's a life changing experience.

One if my top five favorite restaurants! Volcano roll is amazing. Ronnie and all of the servers are extremely attentive, pleasant and professional. I dream of the volcano roll but they have awesome hot menu items as well. Walnut shrimp and bulgogi are two standing favorites. The edamame with garlic is so different from all of the edamame I've ever had before. Excellent restaurant. Highly recommend it.

Nona Sushi has been a great addition to the Lake Nona area. This is officially our neighborhood sushi joint. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. Like previous reviewers have said: the prices can be high, but you get what you pay for. I don't get to go here as often I would like, but I highly recommend it if you are looking for quality sushi in or around the Lake Nona area.

Excellent Service. Great speciality rolls and sake. This is a great find in an area close to the airport.

The food was really great. Service was alright. We had a large group and decided to stay a little while after lunch. It felt rushed to get out even though there was no one coming in who needed a table. They aren't great a refilling drinks, had to ask several times each time it got low, but at least they did it after asking.

We have been going here, almost weekly, for quite some time. The staff is top notch and the food is very, very good!! Like many have mentioned, the prices are a little on the high side but knowing how absurdly high the lease prices are in the area... this is not uncommon for privately owned businesses in the Lake Nona area of Orlando. We've tried many sushi places in Orlando and this one is still our favorite. If I was forced to offer some recommendations... the ambiance sounds/music could be better as sometimes it gets a little too quiet and the walls are quite bare but seriously, that's nit-picking.

We moved to the area from Georgia a few months ago and I was so excited to see Nona Sushi so close to our new home. I am a huge fan of hibachi chicken and when I saw it on the menu we had to try it. My husband got the soup and I got the salad with our meals. I called the order in and the guy I spoke with was so very nice and polite. When I went to pick up the food, the restaurant was so clean and well kept, not to mention it smelled wonderful :) When I got home with the food and set down to eat, we opened the plates and it was nothing like what we have ever had before. The soup was terrible, salad was yummy but the hibachi chicken was not so good. I know they are known for sushi so maybe we should have tried that instead, if we ate it. The service was excellent and it was packed so I'm sure it is a great place to eat, just not for us.

I like this place. We have been there several times,... with just me and hubby and with a group. We have always had good service and delicious food. I have read the reviews that it seems pricey,.. let's just say there is pricier out there and we always came away thinking that it was reasonable for the Nona area,... but definately by no means cheap. The staff there is friendly and the owners recognized my husband because we used to frequent his previous restaurant off of 192 in Kissimmee. Three Dragons?? Chinese Dragons,... gosh wish I could remember the name,... anyways his Nona Sushi doesn't have the same ambiance as his old place (man it was cool in a red Japanese looking house that you had to cross a Koi pond that you had to cross over to enter the building sorry,... lost in my reverie) but is pleasant well maintained and clean just the same. It's not a place where we go out of our way to eat beacuse there are soo many now in the Kissimmee area, but if we are in the mood for Sushi and are meeting someone from the Nona area it is a great place for dinner.

Since it's named Nona Sushi, I go here for Sushi. I'm a spicy roll fan and between the fire ball, red dragon, and the random chef's special roll, I'm set. Wife loves their asparagus roll with eel sauce. Couple nice sakes to complement the meal, and who doesn't love some fried cheesecake. On top of that, the sushi chefs and servers are all extremely nice. Definitely a nice little local spot in Lake Nona.

  • Alvin B.

The bubble sushi roll is pretty good. The waiters are very pleasant. The only issue I had is that my sushi roll arrives before my appetizer.

  • Sean H.

Like all things in this area, Nona Sushi is a bit over-priced. It's a nice place with friendly staff and chefs, but the sushi doesn't quite live up to the billing. I don't care much for fried/tempura rolls or things with cream cheese, fruit or things that over-power the flavor of the sushi. They have a lot of that here. There are only two or three rolls I get and they don't often have great specials. Nice place, good ambience, lackluster menu.

  • Fran G.

Love Nona Sushi. We always sit at the sushi bar and have a few glasses of wine. Sushi is great. They are a little pricey but the service makes up for it. It's right down the road so we love that we have a sushi restaurant 3 min away!

  • Aaron F.

This is my neighborhood sushi restaurant and my wife and I frequent it as much as we can. The staff is very friendly. I normally order a plate of sashimi, but their rolls and entrées are both forward-thinking but rooted in classic Japanese-American cuisine. However, I definitely agree with the previous reviewer who suggested that the lunch prices were more appropriate for the food you get.

    (4)
  • Ruthie S.

Probably more like 3.5 stars. Bit pricey, the chicken yakitori pieces were dry, and the pieces of sushi were small. However, everything tasted pretty good, including the teriyaki salmon. I would come here again.

As one of the few restaurants open in Lake Nona, Nona Sushi is this picky Japanese foodie's go to place in The Nona. The staff is courtesy and knowledgeable, and while the speed of service is a little relaxed, the food is certainly worth the wait. There is a a wonderful combination of traditional Japanese as well as Americanized fusion dishes. The pricing is exceptionally fair for the portions provided. I've actually made the yakisobsa into three separate meals! The restaurant atmosphere is warm, inviting, and the staff treats everyone like family (the kind that gets along famously well)! They work hard to remember people's names and faces, which I really appreciate. At lunch time on a weekday, this is my go to place, but I would love to go for dinner so I can enjoy their adult drinks, too. I was floored by the garlic edamame. In all my years of edamame devouring, it was a first, but I was pleasantly surprised. Don't skip dessert!! I highly recommend the creme brulee and the green tea mochi ice cream.

I know what you are thinking, because I thought it too. "Sushi in a strip mall?!?!" Trust me, there is nothing strip mallish about this restaurant, other than it's size. With a dozen, perhaps 18, tables, and a cafe style counter, I am glad we got there late, around 2:15pm. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, service prompt, the beer cold and served with a frosty glass. We had the appetizer assortment for two, the Paradise Roll, Dancing Eel roll, and our first taste of conch, the Spicy Conch Roll. Can I just tell you....the BEST short ribs and dumpling and spring roll I have ever eaten come on the appetizer plate. Simply fantastic!! We were both already in love with eel, so we deepened our appreciation here, and the conch was a pleasant surprise, with a good firm mouthfeel and delightfully unfishy taste. It made believers out of us. We are here for another 7 days, so I am sure we will make it back. The 4 star is quite simply for cost. I know good meals cost, but my bottle of beer was nearly 8$ and our lunch came to about $70 after tip. To be clear, I do not regret it!! That was one of the best lunches I have ever eaten!

Came back here again since I was in the area and I'm upgrading my review since the service is so on point here. Hieu and Heather are amazing waiters/waitresses. The owner is super kind and sweet. He always makes his way around to talk to each of the tables. Had the sunrise roll and wasabi umami roll this time and they were so delicious! See pics!

Fireball, California and Philadelphia rolls. Everything was amazing! This was takeout and it looked this way after driving home. Kudos on taking the time on presentation even for TO orders.

I'm not a big sushi fan but I went with my best friend who loves sushi. From the moment you enter the door you are greeted by a very friendly host who would also help the servers refilling drinks and bussing tables. He had a great energy with him, was very personable with everyone and everyone seemed to know him and like him. I had a tempura roll which was very tasteful along with jasmine tea. It seems like a very nice, cozy, family business and I would definitely go back there again.

Can we talk about this calamari for a second!? Holy cow delicious! Flavor is out of this world! Super fresh sushi and great environment! Go here and enjoy the food NOM!

Great little local sushi bar. We stopped in on our way to the airport. Sat at the sushi bar, had great service and really enjoyed the specialty rolls we ordered. Nice clean spot and in a great location for refueling our rental car and getting to the airport quickly without paying for terrible airport food!

Since I have tried several sushi places and am beginning to know what I like and don't like, I've become picky about where I go for sushi. I've got to say that Nona Sushi is THE BEST SUSHI I've ever tried!!! The prices are reasonable and the staff is super-friendly!! I drove 38 miles to meet a friend at Nona's and it will be the only place I go for sushi from now on!!!

Sushi and Korean food are our two must haves with every move, so my girls and I have been on the lookout for our go-to restaurants since becoming locals just over a month ago. After testing several establishments, Nona Sushi has become our go-to sushi! The service has been pleasant and reliable, and the sushi has been excellent every time. We try different rolls with every trip as well as our staple, spicy tuna, when looking for our favorite sushi place. If a sushi chefs cannot make an impeccable spicy tuna roll they are not worth a return trip. Three meals in and Nona is still making a great spicy tuna roll! I also love their unique take on clear soup! Who knew you could dress up clear soup with some kani?! It's delicious!!

This place is very good! We go there for our date nights quite often. It gets pretty busy and slow service on weekend nights so we go during the weekday and service is prompt and sushi is fresh. I only give it 4 stars because Nagoya sushi (dr Phillips, winter springs) has set the sushi standard very high for me! :) they don't use as much fish as they do but its the second best sushi place I've ever been to :)

Atmosphere is nice. Food is...ok. Ordered the crab Rangoons and pan fried dumplings as appetizers. Dumplings were good but the crab Rangoons were no better than what you'd find at a food court; definitely not worth the $7 price tag. Together we tried the piña colada roll, rock'n'roll, tempura roll, under the sea, eel roll, and tuna roll. Portions were kind of small. Sushi was ok. Not bad, just not great. On a positive note, miso soup was flavorful delicious!

I ordered from the lunch menu some sushi rolls for the first time and I really liked them. The order was ready in 15 min, perfect for my lunch break and the person who gave them was very nice and courteous. I would totally recommend this sushi please. Need to go back and explore the menu I wish they would have a lunch special like at Samurai sushi in Lake Mary.

We met at Nona Sushi for a Business meeting. We were seated in a table almost at the entrance of the restaurant, so we asked the server if we could switch tables, servers said yes. When we were switching OUR OWN drinks (no staff did it for us), we drop a drink on the table. The manager did not realize we spoke to the server before and came to us and told us "Do you think you can come here and do whatever you want". We were so offended, we stood up and walked away. It was so disrespectful.

Very friendly staff! Good quality Sushi - for a neighborhood joint anyways - the hamachi app wasn't Nobu but it was definitely satisfying

  • Geri E.

This is a good sushi place however they do not have a huge variety of sushi. I was expecting a large selection of sushi but it barely had 15 I think. Other places I've gone to have about 50 selections. I would go here if I have to but I prefer izziban by the Florida mall.

I have to say that the experience was good but not great. When I went with my boyfriend, it was.the beginning of the dinner rush. Our server was very nice as well as everyone else who worked there. Several times we were out of water and I would have ordered another drink if the server wasn't so busy. The rolls I had were fantastic while my boyfriend's were just mediocre. Just wish there were more specialty rolls available. Just not the amount I am used to from my favorite spot in Vegas. However, MUCH better than any sushi I had in Phoenix. I wish there was a .5 button because I would love to give it a 3.5.

Although the service was very good, I found this place to be WAY overpriced in relation to the serving size and quality. The sushi was not bad at all but for the price should have whood me !

  • Emma V.

Absolutely delicious and fresh. Had the dinner bento box and upgraded to a few extra goodies and was so worth it. Very good portions enough to take home and the place was nice and clean. Loved it!! Found my new place close to home!

  • Jodi S.

The staff is so friendly!! The younger guy that seems to run the place is awesome. It's as if we've known him for years. The food is really good. We always get the garlic lime edamame. It's different from what you can find other places but amazing in taste. My fiancé always asks the server to have the chef make him a roll and surprise him with what's in it. It's always something that isn't on the menu and tastes so good!! We appreciate that they would do that for us. I highly recommend this place. It's legit.

This is an update to my last review. We went there as a large group (12) for lunch. The service seems to be mediocre each time we go - lunch or dinner. No real excitement, rather go elsewhere to spend our hard earned money. One could say it's a cultural thing that they service guys look ticked off when they serve you but this time we had a girl who's not Asian (now I'm Asian so don't think I'm being prejudice) and she was nice but nothing special. Since I've been to Japan and grew up with Japanese as well as other cultural groups I would say this restaurant could do an overhaul on their service attitude. That said, it 's worth the huge amount of money to go to Epcot's Japanese restaurants to see what real Japanese service is. The food is okay, but I would still go to Publix when I want a sushi fix. I won't go back unless someone else is paying and I'm required to. dat is all.

  • Marcelo A.

I was not impressed with this place. I thought it was a bit overpriced for sushi that was somewhat underwhelming. The staff was very friendly but the quality of the food is not worth coming back for. I had the shrimp tempura and the dynamite rolls and when I got home, I was still hungry, even after an almost $20 dinner.

Nona Sushi is the friendliest and freshest sushi restaurant in Orlando. I'm very picky about my sushi and I won't eat anywhere that doesn't smell fresh and look immaculate when I walk in. This place consistently meets or exceeds my expectations. They are so friendly and go out of their way to get to know their customers. They are also one of the few sushi places in town that carry Conch sushi. The only time they haven't carried it was during a time when they felt the supplier wasn't meeting their quality standards. This speaks a lot to me that they would rather remove an item from their menu before offering an inferior product. They offer daily specials and even have some craft beers and sake variations. Their pear sake is wonderful! This place is a Lake Nona treasure.

I've been to several Sushi places in Orlando and this is one of the best. I've taken several people here and they agree. Can't say I've ever had a bad experience yet. I really should branch out more on their menu but just love their Sushi rolls especially the Puerto Rican. It's the Mexican covered in the volcano sauce. It's not on the menu so you have to ask for it. Also highly suggest trying the Garlic Edamame! You won't regret it. Service at Nona Sushi is very good too.

I will admit I am not a big sushi fan to start, but the rice was falling apart and not sticking together. House ginger salad had way too much dressing. The staff was super friendly and they alone would make we want to go back.

  • Kara M.

Sushi is consistently good and fresh. They have basic rolls and a variety of other creative rolls. My husband loves the curry beef as do I! The noodles are very good, not too salty tasting with good flavor. The owners are often there and are super sweet people :) It does get a little pricey but worth it for the area. Clean simple but nice decor.

We've lived in the area before the arrival of Nona Sushi and were very pleased to find such a great sushi spot so close to home. The owners know everyone by name and they have been consistent in quality for the years we've been going there. Our favorites are the Volcano and Under the Sea Roll. Their prices are very reasonable and they are family friendly. Their Chicken Tenders for kids are the best I've had in any restaurant...yes I sneak the kids' food.

Went in at 9 for late night dinner with friends. Great service and food was much better than I was expecting. Meal dishes were not only tasty but also well presented. Sushi was very good as well. Sushi is much cheaper than what I am used to so I wasn't expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised at taste and presentation.

Nona Sushi is one of my favorite spots! Delicious. Friendly. Fresh. We live nearby and are so glad to have great sushi so close to home. Sure, it is pricey, but we're happy to support a family-owned neighborhood place. The restaurant is family-friendly with great owners that are always around. (Note to parents: changing table in the ladies restroom. Several of our neighborhood spots don't. And as a dad, I've used the ladies room to change our kid because it's a single unit restroom so it's not awkward to do.) Service is friendly and they take reservations. That's important on weekend nights when the place gets packed! Lake Nona loves sushi! As a regular, I recommend... Volcano roll: Simply delicious. Red dragon: Love tuna so much. Have them add cream cheese and use rice paper instead of seaweed for a real treat!!! Tuna Kobachi: Mmm mmm mmm. Perfectly spicy tuna. Steamed Dumplings: Love them. Poke a hole or two to soak up the sauce. Sea salt ribs: Tasty. Bul Go Gi: If you see these skillets of sizzling beef go by, YES, it tastes as good as if smells/looks! Yakisoba noodles: Very tasty if not in a fish mood. Plenty to share. Or take home for later! Fried Cheesecake: WOW. Worth stopping in just to have this ridiculously yummy dessert! Again, plenty to share. Or not! Order a glass of Fuji apple sake and enjoy!!!

First time here. Ambience is decent but service was average with exception of the manager. He was very friendly. Food definitely not up to par. Presentation was drab, rolls were small and mangled looking, and not very fresh. Bottom line...prices are a little high for a grocery store equivalent product.

    (1)
  • Leontine M.

This place has a nice decor, but that is no reason to price gouge. $5.32 for two pieces of Salmon sashimi is absurd in my opinion. Clearly this place is meant for date night. I have never paid that much for two tiny pieces of fish. Had I gotten the order I wanted, it would have been almost $25. I think thats a bit much for a few pieces of fish.
