It was a while ago that I visited this place. To be honest, it was just average and was sorta like fast food. Overall it was bad but I won't go out of my way to eat here.

Disappointed in this place. Went around noon, so at lunch time it was pretty busy. Parking here is very limited, getting in & out of the lot was unreasonably problematic. After finally grabbing a spot as someone else left I went inside to order the hibachi lunch special. I got chicken and steak which came out to about $10. Initially the price didn't seem so bad, but when my food arrived it was a different story. The chicken was cut up into itty bitty pieces while the steak was left in huge chunks. Most of the chicken pieces were gristly and inedible, my steak was not medium. It was over cooked and chewy. The fried rice was just sad... And dry. I'm sorry to say that this meal just got worse as I ate it. By the end my taste buds were drowning in a mixture of salt and blandness. I didn't get to try their boba teas but those probably would've been disappointing too. I won't be returning.

I love Kyoto! Jeff K's review is spot on and it's very useful. He's right about it being similar to Mr. Roboto's in Tally, but not quite as cool, and the food isn't as good either. But, it's the closest thing we have here in Orlando, so I am giving them a favorable rating. I've only been to this location twice, both times for dinner, but it's my favorite hibachi place in town. Mostly college kids if you eat-in because it's right across the street from UCF, but they keep it pretty clean considering the high traffic. The noodles that come with most of the entrées are delicious. Dinner orders come with soup, the miso is solid, and a salad, their dressing is pretty blah. But, the main dish makes up for the weak greens. If you like hibachi style Asian food, you've got to try Kyoto! This place is the jam, and you won't leave hungry. In fact, if you can finish everything they bring out, you are a champion. Most people have to get a doggie bag. They have huge stacks of styrofoam takeout boxes next to the soda machine, for the majority of the patrons that can't get the job done in one sitting. Both times, I must say, I dominated what was in front of me and let nothing go to waste. Their white, yum yum sauce is really good...not the healthiest stuff, but you can knock out a big chunk in one meal if you are on the Michael Phelps 5,000+ calorie diet. No matter what, you'll have to exercise a little harder, or put in an extra day of working out if you eat the full monty, but it's worth it!

Great hibachi and fast service. The place does sometimes get crowded though!

Love this place. Good food & reasonably priced. Great lunch specials & happy hour specials from 4-6pm. You can even call ahead for pick-up & they have a drive thru!

Fast & friendly service! Never been in & the host went over the lunch specials & made me aware of all my options up front w/ patience & great customer service. Plus decent prices for amount of food u receive. Spacious & modern dining in area...I also saw they have a pretty nice covered dine out option as well. A server brings out ur meal pretty quickly in orderly fashion...I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki & it came w/ egg roll, sushi, chicken, white rice, & something else I don't remember & before the main course u have a soup or salad choice, which I opted for soup which wasn't bad. The meal was alright...I paid extra for all white meat portion if not, dark meat is what the meal comes with. Chicken was good, rice a lil bland, egg roll was ok, & as for the sushi, I've had much better so it was a lil disappointing but for the price not bad. All in all it's a cheap & a fast Japanese meal! I love Japanese it's actually one of my favs but I wasn't really impressed w/ this place so if I didn't come back I'd b ok, but it's not bad either so if I lived around here I'd mayb give it another chance...

We started coming here freashman year of college, and 5 years later (now alumni) we still return to kyotos frequently! We love going for their lunch special! I do recommend getting the upgrade to white meat. Their white sauce is the best around, as well as their meso soup. Yummy!

  • Christine S.

This is my first time actually dinning here (stopped in once to look) and I'm impressed already. Anything with white rice can be subbed out for brown rice. The food came out really fast! Everything was great and the service was awesome!

I come to Kyoto every now and then for lunch since it is close to work. Sushi is only decent... so I wouldn't eat the sushi again here. The hibachi is not bad. I usually get the steak and scallops. The steak is tender and comes in bite sized cubes. The scallops are cut in half and perfectly cooked on the hibachi table top. Be sure to request the steak ginger sauce along with the white sauce they provide you, it is a nice addition to your steak and rice. Portions are decent, at first look it doesn't seem like it will be enough, but it is actually enough to satisfy. I got to go once and got jipped on my salad. I opened the box to find one large leaf of lettuce along with about 4 mini pieces. Maybe it was done in a rush, but still.. common. I need my non-nutritional iceberg lettuce. All in all decent for a fast food hibachi place. Would be nice if they could bring a Mr. Robotos down here from Tallahassee. Would blow this place out the water.

My meal was pretty good. I had the hibachi steak and chicken... dinner portion, it came with a small salad w ginger dressing and a very delicious soup right after eating that my entree came shortly after they were very quick... The chicken and steak hibachi was good even tho i liked the chicken more than the steak in it, the noodles where pretty good as well the fried rice wasn't the best but overall i did enjoy my meal...i will come back and try other things

This place is decent for relatively fresh sushi on a discount. Their happy hour of $3.50/roll is what you'd expect a roll for that price to be. Their miso soup however is literally broth, good luck!

I like that this location has a drive thru window. I enjoy their lunch & happy hour specials for sushi. the food is always quick and flavorful. I really enjoy their Chicken Tempura sushi rolls.

This place is great. I love how close it is to campus and how fast and friendly the service is. The sushi is great, but can get a little pricey so definitely take advantage of their lunch specials.

Never used to eat sushi until a friend made me try Kyoto. Great sushi and have great options for strict vegetarians. Friendly service and clean restaurant.

  • Ho L.

Kyoto offers a nice change of pace for on-campus dining, but the food is simply on par with what you'd find at a mall food court. The chicken hibachi is the only reasonably priced menu item. Once you start going with any other menu item, the costs become quite high for what you get. If you're really in the mood for good Japanese cuisine, venture off campus to one of the nearby Japanese restaurants.

  • Britney C.

Possibly the WORST Japanese food of all time! Seriously. Disgusting. I ordered the hibachi chicken dinner and the chicken was extremely fatty and didn't have any kind of flavor....I don't even think they used salt. The noodles were also bland. The only thing that was good was the veggies but I didn't pay $11 to eat just veggies. I don't think I would eat here again even if this was the last restaurant on Earth.

    (1)
  • Dalia S.

The Sushi is always really good for me. The hibachi is so-so, usually hit or miss. It helps to call ahead for your sushi order if you want to take out as they always take quite a while, and if you wait it will be at least 30 minutes.

  • Sarah B.

The chicken hibatchi lunch special for just $6 calls to me often. The white sauce is fantastic and original. The meat quality and vegetables never disappoint.

East Orlando Best kept secret....what and awesome Sushi spot for those that live near UCF. Not only is the sushi rolls fresh and very tasty...try the steak tips with their noodles!!!! I could eat that every night. If you take it to go, they tend to give a lot more portions and let me tell you its enough for two!!! Very good in prices, they have a great exterior seating area as well as interior. We tend to do take out, but it seems they are effecient and very quick. Next time you are in the UCF area on University Blvd..stop here!! You wont regret it!!!!

Three stars is all I can do here. This is basically Mr. Roboto Tokyo Grill in Tallahassee, without the weird murals, the flair, or the personality. You have your pick of items to choose from, with the main focus being hibachi grill plates or sushi. Unlike Kobe Steakhouse or Fuji Sushi, there's no show. You put your order in, take a number, and go sit down at a table. Your food will be brought out to you. The good news is that the hibachi grill items are not bad at all, especially considering you'll spend about twice as much at Kobe or Fuji. The lunch prices are even better, averaging about $7 a plate (about $13 for dinner). The sushi is another story. Let me pose a question to the old-schoolers: Do you remember when (I guess around 2004 or 2005) Bikkuri Sushi used to be just a little hole-in-the-wall tiny place with fluorescent lighting, christmas lights in the window, and a row of maybe four tables lined up against the wall? They would serve your sushi in a styrofoam box? Remember how you used to think, "Well, the sushi isn't that great, the ingredients taste kind of cheap, but they're a decent size and my broke ass can afford it at $5 a roll!" Kyoto sushi tastes kind of like that. They do try to dress it up a little, but you can still taste the fact that it's really only about as good as the original Bikkuri sushi (I don't know about new Bikkuri, I haven't eaten sushi there yet). All that would be okay, if the rolls were cheap, or at least huge. But they're not! For lunch I ordered a Gemini Roll and a Spicy Tuna Roll [see photos]. With a drink, my bill was $17 plus tip! And the Spicy Tuna Roll is just spicy tuna and cucumber! Pure and simple, sushi is a bad value here. But you get that third star for a pretty decent hibachi plate for the price.

Kyoto is a good place if you want quick hibachi and are in the UCF area, they also have some tasty potstickers and freshly made sushi. I have friends that make it a point to go every time they are visiting Orlando, if that says anything! It can be heavy to eat for lunch and sometimes the prices are a little too high for my liking (4 pot stickers for $6?), but the quality is always good.

  • Rebecca N.

I honestly don't know why there are bad reviews here. I lived on this side of town for years and never new what this place was until I saw it on the UC campus. The best thing here is the hibachi! I honestly don't get anything else because the hibachi rivals Kobes. For the dinner portion which is Soup, salad, noodles, rice, vegetables, and meat will run you 27$ for take out for TWO people. And they give you as much food as kobes would too if not more. I can never finish my portion and always have leftovers. OMG and how can I forget their white sauce sooo good!!! My bottom line yes it can be a little prices but this is not McDonalds you actually get real cooked steak and huge portions.

Kyoto is a really good sushi option in Orlando. They have some really fun options in addition to your (Americanized) traditional Japanese fair. They can be sort of pricey, especially for dinner, but it's good food. The service is always strong and they will accommodate any preference you have!

I've been to this location twice now. I will continue to go back once in a while for sushi, but its for price and service mostly. While the sushi is ok, the freshness is hit or miss. I've tried many sushi places in central florida, I know what fresh sushi should taste like. On both visits I got the Dynamite roll, which is a mixture of: snapper, tuna, yellow tail and salmon. with temp flakes, cucumber, spicy sauce, scallion and masago. I always get a second roll which normally consists of spicy tuna. Neither of the rolls had any "spice" to them, sad because one reason i order these rolls is for the spicy taste with the fish. :( My first visit the fish were fresh, the rolls looked as though they were just made (as they should) and the other ingredients were fresh as well. My second visit was a complete opposite experience. The fish taste as if it had sat out for a long time, yet i ordered, sat and waited for it to be ready. The other ingredients were on the same level, just not very pleasing. The prices are great however, so if you want an inexpensive sushi lunch, you should consider them. The service is quick and so they should also get points for that. I also like their call ahead drive through system, so it makes lunch on the go quicker. Directly in front of the University of Central florida and a short drive for me, Im hoping they can be more consistent with the freshness. Fingers crossed.

Menu is somewhat limited but the food was tasty. They offer $3.50 happy hour basic rolls. They also have value priced Saki that is good for the money. I did not try the cooked food. I've had better sushi and definitely worse so I put them in the middle with 3 stars.

My wife suggested this place because she likes this kind of food...and she also had a coupon. Great choice! I had the Beef Teriyaki Bento Box and IT WAS REALLY GOOD! The Cali roll was awesome and so was the egg roll. Very tasty place and not too pricey at all. We will be back for sure.

Loved the food here! Hibatchi flavor and serving at a great price. All you're missing is the show, and for only $12 I can live not hearing a guy yell "VOLCANO" as he makes my food . Delicious Sushi rolls.

Ok, Ok,... I'll admit that after coming here several more times after my initial visit due to friends having a crazy obsession with this place; my opinion of this establishment has improved. It all comes down to what you order. The habachi and stir fried items on here are insanely good. Not to mention that mystery sauce that nobody realy knows what it is but once the server places it down on the table along with your plate of steaming hot food, you know that it's going to end up squirted all over the contents of your plate; don't fight it, let it squirt. The dish that I have and now always order when I come here is the Soba noodle stiry fry with calamari and vegetables. It's cheap considering they give you enough food to feed three people. So I humbly admit I was wrong about this place and will more than likely be back.

Decided to try this today for lunch, heard it was pretty tasty! And, I have to admit, I dig the fact that I can call in my order and pick it up drive-thru style! I ordered Mexican Roll, California Roll and Fried Rice. First, the rolls were really good and tasty. The ingredients was fresh and I love their Spicy Mayo. They were a tad skimpy on the soy sauce, I think there was like 2 drops of it in the little cup! Seriously people, a little more! The Fried Rice SUCKED! You can get better fried rice at Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market, for real! It had basically nothing in it, that I could see and had nooo taste! Lesson learned, won't order that again! Overall, good sushi and I would definitely go back to try a few other items of interest!

The sushi here is always good. I would eat it more often if it weren't so cost prohibitive. I always order to go, so I'm not sure how their dine in service is. They're always willing to provide extras in regards to condiments. I'm a fiend for the pickled ginger despite the fact that it sort of tastes like pine sol.

  • Brian R.

I have gone to sit-down restaurants with a ton of atmosphere and much more stratospheric prices that were not half this good. My scallop udon was perfect. THey have lots of great, fresh sushi and original rolls. And the prices you can't complain about. A bit higher than Del Taco, but a lot cheaper than sit-down sushi joints. The hibachi was awesome the last time we were here too!

  • James G.

I come here sometimes because my friends like it. First time I got sushi which was a mistake. The sushi here is not as good as even Publix's sushi, skip it. I know get the Chicken Hibachi for lunch it is pretty good portion sizes seem to vary significantly between visits. The shinning star of this place is the "white" sauce they put on your table. That will make anything taste delicious. Others I eat lunch with will get the salmon and enjoy it but again portion sizes vary wildly.

  • Matthew M.

I got the chicken hibachi lunch special with white meat and fried rice. I eat here occasionally, because it's cheap and a lot of food. The quality of the chicken is decent, though sometimes dry. Overall, Kyoto is average for this type of food. Not great, not terrible.

Wow this place is great if you like Japanese food. We had the broccoli tempura and it was really good. We also have the lunch special and bento boxes as well. I don't think the up charge for fried rice was worth it but so far I love this restaurant. The place was very clean and service was great and very fast. I will be back soon.

Although Kyoto Sushi and Grill has already been open for a little while (ever since moving off of the UCF campus and into a beautiful new building across the street on University), I never took the time to stop in and try it out. Well, on my way back home from a trip out of town this weekend, I finally decided to do just that. First off, I walked in around 5:30PM and instantly realized that I was too late to take advantage of their lunch specials, which end at 3:30PM. To be honest, that almost made me want to turn around and run down the street to Firehouse Subs, simply because I didn't want to spend over $10 for a dinner without even having a real waitress. Just a note that Kyoto Sushi and Grill is an order and grab a number (Panera-esque) or take out place and not a sit down restaurant. However, I decided to suck it up and stay anyway, since I really did want some chicken teriyaki. I went with the chicken teriyaki hibachi dinner, which comes with miso soup, salad, chicken teriyaki, white rice, AND noodles. Needless to say, I got my $10+ worth. And the food was indeed delicious, although the soup was slightly cold which was kind of disheartening. As far as the service is concerned, I must have showed up at the height of the dinner rush because when I walked in there were a good 5-7 people in line ahead of me. At first this seemed great, as I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to order. But, the bad thing about it was that it definitely took a good 20 minutes for my food to come out. I also noted a pair of girls who were sitting out on the patio and had to come in because they were so frustrated that their food wasn't ready. At that point, I started getting jealous of everyone who ordered sushi platters, which looked delectable and I would really want to try next time I go to Kyoto. Overall, I found Kyoto Sushi and Grill to be a little lacking in terms of service and felt awkward that I was "forced" to spend the amount of money I did simply because it was dinner time. I really wasn't starving, and would have felt happier spending a few dollars less, maybe even using that money to buy a soda. But, I am not one of those people who goes somewhere once and dismisses it. So I will probably give Kyoto Sushi and Grill a second chance, and go there during lunch time so my wallet will be more content.

They have messed up my order the last three times. Unacceptable and we will not be returning.
