This restaurant is a bit confusing. From the outside, you see "Kyoto Sushi & Grill". When I saw the sign, I thought it was a sit down (order at your table) restaurant. When we walked in, we were shocked to see it is a counter service restaurant. Is that a bad thing? No, not necessarily. The food is good - especially the tempura! It's really good. They have sushi rolls (and specials) - which was tasty. The service is shoddy. It is run by kids who really don't seem to care. They have a good concept here, but they need to figure out a way to let people know it's a counter service restaurant on the outside!

Here is what I remember. I dont like the fast food ordering style. The Goth girl at the cash register couldnt get our order right. The food seemed over priced. The tables were cheap and rickety and the atmosphere felt like a bad Chinese restuarant. The only good point was the waiter who kept our water topped off. Then I wasnt sure if I was supposed to tip him. Of course I did, but I dont tip at Chick fil a when the host gets me a refill. It makes things confusing and uncomfortable. Sushi was average. Is a fine low scale place to take kids though.

This place shouldn't get a single star. If you insist on eating here my only advice is stay away from anything raw. I ordered raw sushi and the sushi tasted horrible on its way down but to make matters even worse the next morning i woke up with food poising, consisting of a fever constant diarrhea and vomiting . I would avoid this place at all costs.

If you are a sushi snob like me, go somewhere else. The rice is really thick and heavy.

My wife and I have been here twice and this is by far the best Sushi and Hibachi we have ever had. I had a spicy tuna roll and a tempura shrimp roll and the Mrs. had the seafood hibachi with shrimp and scallops. This is now our go to place for such things.

So the food wasn't bad for the price. I came here a year ago and I had a problem but couldn't remember what the problem was so I came back today. Today, my coworker found hair in her food. When she asked the manager if food preparers should be required to wear hairnets and he said no it's ok he has a baseball cap lol. At least we got our money back lmao.

This place had me fall in love with its tofu hibachi from the first time I got it! I went there because I was told it was a cheap version of kobes so I went with those expectations. My expectations were blown. From the portion, flavors, and service I have nothing else to say but that everyone should go eat here for some awesome casual fast dining hibachi. Also, the veggie roll, avocado roll, and asparagus roll are so good and especially for their sushi happy hour specials! Don't forget to get the white sauce and ask for the ginger steak sauce. You won't be disappointed.

My family spent a week in Orlando and the best meal we had was at Kyoto. I had low expectations due to the mediocre quality of food we had experienced at far more expensive places. We just wanted a quick meal before we left town. The sushi was excellent. The fish was fresh. They captured all the right flavors. If I lived here I would be a regular and eschew the $$$ places.

Happy hour sushi $3.50 on selected rolls. Have lunch combos. Different kinds of sauce. Cook it fresh

It is what it is..... Fast food hibachi. I prefer the real deal but I tried this place for dinner. Steak and shrimp hibachi. It was ok....not bad for the price. So I went back for lunch. Twice. Super sparse and expensive for lunch ($24 for 2) and all plate, no food. And the food that was there wasn't even great. I think it only does well because of it's location on Lee Vista and near the airport. I won't go back.

I'm not sure why this place only has 2 1/2 stars but from my experience with this establishment, they deserve 4 stars. Their food handling practices are top notch from what I've seen. I usually get bento boxes and several types of Rolls. They have all been up to par compared to other sushi places I have eaten at in Orlando. The food is just plain good anyway you slice it and the prices are pretty standard for a sushi joint. The staff are very courteous and very accommodating to your needs. If your looking for sushi or Japanese Food. This is the place to go. They are pretty quick too.

Literally the best scallop roll I've had at any sushi joint.. Kinda crazy for it being a fast pace kinda place . Try the tuna tataki too it's pretty great. The price is so right.

For a restaurant that specializes in sushi the food was mediocre. We got a few rolls and weren't impressed. I've had better sushi at some bars. Had to ask our server to bring some of our food that he forgot. Bathrooms were dirty. The affordable prices are the only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one.

Horrible. Long wait and bad food. Had sushi and chicken with rice. Way overpriced for the quality and quantity.

We eat here atleast once a week and the food is good. The sushi, however, leaves a bit to be desired.

We actually were looking at another restaurant nearby and realized that some of my party did not want to go there. A quick decision to try Japanese. As it turns out it was one of our group's first time eating Japanese...not even at Epcot! She was thoroughly impressed...fortunately she did not know any better. Perhaps I was spoiled with the quality of Japanese in Hawaii, but even though there is a sushi joint next to every Starbucks it seems these days doesn't make it a good thing. The portions are large for the noodles and other meals, but the sushi did not appear very fresh. The salmon was dry and the noodles were way to drunk! For the price I expected something a little more. I really didn't expect much since it was more like a sports bar than a sushi place. Overall, the food was not bad, but I was not overly impressed.

This place is amazing. Sushi with modern twist. Just visiting Orlando and wanted to get sushi. We were skeptical of it at first because it only had 3 stars, but decided to chance it because it was close to our hotel. Lots of options and great staff. They were all very friendly and helpful with all of the substitutions and changes that we wanted with our sushi rolls. It was delicious and I would highly recommend this restaurant to any sushi lover. The logo could be changed to represent the more modern feel.

I was trying to figure out the best way to list the positives and negatives of this place, so I'll just list them in a list format: PROS 1) The Boba Tea is yummy 2) The Tempura is the bomb.com 3) The bathrooms are clean (Super Important) 4) The ambiance is there (It's dim and kind of oriental?) CONS 1) The service isn't as great as it could be 2) The host/person you order from doesn't really take the time to explain everything 3) The tables aren't always 100% clean 4) The rice was extremely dry 5) The staff didn't know anything about the brand - history, etc. Overall, I'd go back to get something to go but I wouldn't sit in again.

Staff is nice. Tempura is exceptionally tasty and I totally recommend it! I think it was 3-5 half off certain sushi rolls :) the place is a counter service kind of fast dinning sushi place. Inexpensive and nice. The booths were a bit unclean. You can call ahead of time and pick up. Always have eel sauce, super delicious on all sushi rolls. Reading other reciew, yes. It is like a japanese version of panda express!

Normally when I am doing airport runs to MCO around mealtime, I head over to some of the other places in this plaza (usually Martini's), but about a year ago, I stopped in to meet with my daughter and her bf that were eating here. I was absolutely starving, and I picked off their plates. I left with a positive memory of this place, and thought: Cool, Gotta come back here... ...and THAT is how hunger can affect your perception of quality and taste. Having tried it a second time around, this time without voilent hunger pangs... well, this place really sucks! Everything was pretty flavorless. In a word: Blah. We'll not be back, but if you do end up here, go check out Martini's for a quick bite.

Got sick from eating here. Not very good sushi. Expensive and I could have gone to a sit down restaurant.

I came by after work and they were running a pretty good special for dine in or take out. During happy hour, 4pm - 6pm, they do $3.50 a roll for: Fish Tempura Roll Shrimp Tempura Roll Spicy Tuna Roll Tuna Roll Salmon Roll Smoke Salmon Roll California Roll Eel Roll Crunchy Roll Philadelphia Roll Chicken Tempura Roll Cucumber Roll Asparagus Roll Avocado Roll I'll definitely be taking advantage of this again as it's right on my way home from work and the sushi was good and they prepared it quickly.

Close to office - we go here as one of our local lunch stops. Always quick, clean and tasty food. I don't do sushi but others say it's OK. White meat chicken Hibachi is my fav. Not Koby or other big name hibachi but for price, service & quality can't be beat!

This place is going to hurt my pocket! It is super close to my house, and well, I really like sushi. Their sushi is great, the decor is very modern, the staff is friendly, and the service is fast. I think I will be a regular here ;-)

Of course I've had better on the Pacific Rim, but here it is in Orlando, near the shopping! Green Tea, Bento boxes and sushi, its great!

Fast food, store front, expensive sushi... not at all worth the money we put out. The beer was cold though!

Had a California Roll & an order of Tamago (egg). It was OK, not great. I've had much worse.

If you've been to the location at University & Alafaya, then you know what to expect here. It's smaller, but the decor and food is precisely the same. What does that mean? It means that, if when you hear the word "hibachi" your mind immediately goes to the dim lighting and wafting odors of high quality, freshly prepared food at places like Kobe or Fuji, then.... well, you'll be disappointed. This is that style of food, but with a fast food twist: much faster, at less than half the price, and probably less than half the quality. So, sure. It's a tradeoff. I won't deny that the price point is a loud, convincing argument. You just need to lower your taste expectations accordingly. Sushi... well, if I were you I'd just pass on that. Some of the things that make the hibachi not quite up to par (namely, the proteins) also haunt the sushi selections -- but at least with the hibachi, those items are cooked. And as any sushi lover well knows, as important as the quality of the fish is in ANY seafood dish, that importance is at least twofold when that fish is raw. I rate Kyoto as I do based on the "all things being equal" mentality. However, since life is rarely that simple, here are a couple of caveats that would bring the rating up higher, in which case I would recommend it: Hibachi: - You are craving hibachi but absolutely CANNOT spend more than $10. - You are craving hibachi but you only have 45 minutes to eat. - It's either this or Burger King. Sushi: - You have never had sushi before, so there is no reference point. - You don't eat any sushi with raw protein. - "I'm just gonna drown it in white sauce anyway." You get the idea. I'd come back for the hibachi if I was in a hurry, but if I wanted sushi and it had to be in this vicinity I'd go next door to Bento Ya.

I thought everything here was rather mediocre. I guess I do not understand why you would want a watered down fast food version of the real thing.

I stopped here on my way to the airport craving sushi. It was disappointing on many levels. The restaurant seemed old and it wasn't very clean. The menus on the walls are way too much and they don't go with the decor. The sashimi and rolls were not made with "love" they seemed to just throw them together in a hurry to get back to their iPhones.

Kyoto feels like a Japanese food version of Sizzler/Panda Express. You order from the menu, and you get your order and sit down and they bring it to you. You get to see how they cook the hibachi, which is neat. I like the menu selection, i like how their are displayed both at the register and on billboards as you come in. I like that there's TVs and music inside. Our cashier and server were courteous. The restrooms were OK. the Decor was ok. The only reason why this get's an OK rating because the food wasn't that great. The Sushi tasted like it was pre-made and the hibachi wasn't as flavorful as i thought. however, the pricing was decent. Bottom line: if your looking for close to authentic japanese food, go elsewhere, but if your looking for something quick, but affordable, go here. This would be more of a lunch place over a dinner joint.

Same Kyoto restaurant found on University Blvd by Alafaya. Boba Tea is here! Quick Hibachi meal and decent sushi. Hibachi lunches are a great deal. I'll be coming back.

I've had better sushi at Publix. Can't say that I'll be back to this restaurant.

I really don't believe any of these reviews calling this restaurant average or blah. I absolutely love Kyoto and the food and find myself eating here a lot. If you have never been here before you might be a little confused when first walking in though. You order, then sit down and the waitress brings you the food, which never takes long at all to prepare. The sushi here is amazing. Always fresh and above my expectations. The hibachi food is to die for. Personally I love hibachi food but hate going to those cheesy restaurants where they cook the food in front of you and throw food at you. To get hibachi food without all the shenanigans is awesome. Both my boyfriend and I always have literally another meal to take home each because they give you so much food. I have tried the shrimp, scallops and salmon hibachi dinners and they are all delicious. I find myself here once a week at least and can't say anything negative about Kyoto.
