After seeing mixed reviews from my fellow Yelpers I decided to give Colibri Mexican Cuisine in Baldwin Park a try for dinner this past Friday Evening. Colibri is on the north end of New Broad Street in the town center of Baldwin Park over looking Lake Baldwin. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating, and considering the weather has finally started to cool off we opted for the lake view outdoor seating. We waited for about 10 minutes before our waitress stopped by to take our drink orders. Their drink special was nothing that special, but we each went with the 24 oz Margarita for 8 bucks; it could only be described as watered-down limeade. I tried a signature margarita (that my mom was having) and that seemed to lack alcohol as well. No worries, we came for the food right? I make sure to always ask the wait staff which menu items they would recommend. Our server seemed to be more concerned with Tweeting her BFF than taking our order, so I asked her instead, "what item on the menu is really bad." She smiled and said that everything on the menu was great. Clearly that wasn't the case based on some of the reviews that this place received. When flavor is in doubt, go for something hot and spicy, it will hide lack of taste and quality ingredients. I decided on the amply named "Hot and Spicy Burrito" which is described as, "a hearty and spicy burrito made with a 10" flour tortilla, rolled with ground beef, beans, and rice and topped with cheese and a spicy red sauce with steak pieces." A half hour later our food arrived and I was impressed with the size of appearance of the burrito. However, once I bit into it I kind of wondered, "where is the Hot and Spicy part?" There was some heat, but come on, my car seat is hotter after sitting in the sun for an hour. Not all was lost because the lack of heat allowed for me to enjoy what was a pretty good mix of rice, beans, and chicken on the inside. The steak pieces and sauce on top of the burrito are what made the meal, they offered a unique approach where most burritos simply focus on the contents. A quick survey of the rest of the table received mostly average reviews, no one was really impressed by their meals. We did finish with an order of fried ice cream and churros. The best part of the entire dining experience was the live, 6-piece mariachi band performing outside. They performed a number of traditional songs and then went from table to table on the "tip waltz" offering to play any suggestions. Since we were the last table the band visited, all of the traditional Mexican songs I knew had already been played, so I laid it out there and asked, "how about Cherry Pie by Warrant?" The lead singer kind of laughed at first, paid a couple of notes, but before my Dad would let them start playing he chimed in and said, "play something by Santana!" Totally stealing my thunder and hope of hearing a south-of-the-border version of Cherry Pie, we heard a traditional version of Oye Como Va, which was very good. I guess Cherry Pie wouldn't have gone over that well considering the pulse-less Baldwin-ites that dined around us in total silence for most of the night. The short of it is that Colibri has the location to be a great restaurant, but it isn't. Our bill came to just over 50 bucks, and in my opinion it really wasn't worth it. I agree with past reviews that if you are looking for a place to sit outside by the lake, enjoy a drink, and you have plenty of time to wait on the service, Colibri should be a consideration.

Worst restaurant ever. Have had some of the worst restaurant experiences in my life there. I'm not alone, EVERYONE thinks this way. Food is fine but the service (from the owner down) is so bad it's almost comical.

Outside seating with awesome view of Lake Baldwin. There is indoor seating as well, but I love to sit out by the lake. Service can be slow, but the food is very good. Very fresh ingredients. My favorite entree is the stuffed green chiles, and my favorite appetizers are the jalapeño queso and chicken taquitos. Also, Colibri has a great happy hour! They have a good variety of drink specials, including an awesome sangria. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good Mexican food and a nice outside atmosphere.

Seven months since my last dinner at Colibri and it seems not too much has changed. The food remains tasty, but the it's the little things that allow for only 3 stars. Here's two more: 1. "NO SUBSTITUTIONS." And they mean business. You'd think that in these hard times they'd be more eager to please, but it's just not so. I asked for some shrimp to be added to my bean burrito and the waiter informed me it just couldn't be done--even if we paid extra. 2. Slow service...our table of 4 felt ignored for most of the time. We weren't in a rush, but if we had somewhere to be, we'd definitely would have been late. All in all, I love their pico and their salsa looks homemade. So all hope is not lost!

So I have to warn you since I live in Baldwin Park I'm a little prejudice but Colibri Mex is growing on me. We've been there a few times and it has in my mind gone from 2 star up to 4 star of late. We rode our bikes downtown last weekend and had Dos Equis with chips and guac while sitting outside. It was a perfect fall afternoon, the lake looked great and Vero our server was right on time with drinks, and attention. Outside dining is best on comfortable days/evenings. We like all the Baldwin Park dining options but seem to be leaning toward Colibri lately.

After literally a couple years of trying this place, we gave up... LOCATION Perfect. Beautiful spot, great outdoor seating by the lake, ample parking. You really couldn't ask for much more. Too bad someone else doesn't own it. SERVICE Throughout my perhaps 10+ visits here, one thing has remained consistent. Poor service. They seem to revel in hiring teenagers to work the floor. That's not bad in itself, Tijuana Flats does an amazing job with a young staff and proper training, clearly something they don't have at Colibri. Maybe you'll get lucky, who knows? Odds aren't good. Service will be inattentive, lazy, lackluster, and if you're lucky you might even hit rude. FOOD If Colibri were a person, they would be subject to violent mood swings. I've had good meals here, and terrible ones. Sadly, all the good ones were when the place opened. We used to accept the above mentioned lousy service in exchange for decent Mexican food. Then, my wife's Chile Relleno had cheese in the middle that was literally COLD. I've had rice that was practically crunchy. Give me 15 minutes and $2 and I'll make a salsa that would put theirs to shame. How can Mexican food be so bland? Should I point them to an American (Rick Bayless) for some direction on the menu? Bleh. No thank you. OVERALL We gave them a chance. And another. And another. And a few more. It's been a steady decline downhill. Doesn't seem management has any clue what they're doing. Or maybe they just don't care. I'm done with this place. RECOMMENDATION A visit to Moe's Southwest Grill or Tijuana Flats would be a better experience. Better service. Better food. 'Nuff said.

Food wasn't bad. Service wasn't bad. ... both could have been better, though, especially for the price.

A nice meal with a nice view of the lake. The cheese dip was the real strength of this place. The rest of the food was run of the mill. All in all, it's average food with above average decor and nice patio seating to enjoy a view of Lake Baldwin.

LACK OF SERVICE!!!! VIEW WON'T SAVE YOU!!!! Family lives near Baldwin so we come here all the time, mainly for view and family atmosphere. Last night sat inside b/c of rain. After being sat we waited 15 minutes for server and had to flag down help, even with staff helping 3 tables around us. Did they not notice we still had no menus and no drinks. We politely forgave situation and ordered.... After getting food server never came back to check on us. We had to leave table and ask for napkins and condiments. Turns out server was at hostess stand chatting it up. I thought u always checked on your table? After we finished meal we waited for server to return with check. Guess what.... We had to go find her!!! Yep at the hostess stand. I believe this was our server only, since the other staff members were very attentive to their tables, but we lost out. As we left we saw our server with 3 other servers at the front laughing and chatting.... Not a good sign. We'll go over to Winter Park Village... Who cares about the view. I need napkins and service! Getting up three tunes for help is not good service.

Food - alright. Business practices - downright DISHONEST! For the second time in the past few months we got SLAMMED with an 18% automatic gratuity for a table of 4 people. I'm guessing that this is their game: Present the bill with the 18% gratuity already included and hope that you don't realize it and tip them again. It gets better: When I complained and asked them to redo the bill, of course it took them FOREVER to make the correction. A nice F-U to us for calling them out. Thanks for that Colibri. Interestingly, I just saw a Yahoo news article about the same thing happening in other restaurants. DON'T LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT! NEVER AGAIN will my shadow darken your door COLIBRI! Blame it on your dishonest servers.

Well... it's been 2 years since I called it quits with Colibri. Saturday I was in the mood for Mexican, and decided hey, what the hell... time has passed, lets give it a shot. The service has improved some... in that when the waitstaff starts to drop the ball, the manager sweeps in to pick up the slack. That was a big plus, as our server unfortunately did run out of steam midway through the meal. The margaritas were good, the corazon was just as good as I remember. The house margarita was a little rough though. The pricing is still a mystery... for instance the guac that used to be made tableside isn't done that way anymore... yet still costs 2 bucks more than just the guacamole dip? Odd. The main entrees were good, but the rice and beans on the side were pretty bland. So ... 3 stars from me. Good rebound, Colibri.

Food is great. Service....for lack of a better word is "awkward!" This applies to everything. I mentioned to the bartender about the USA v Argentina soccer game (of course not everyone's priority) but he did not seem to car because he and the other person at the bar (a busboy) were watching a Mexican match on Telemundo (sorry, I just wanted the score). Also a waiter picked up a folding table next to us and swung it over his head really fast while a little kid was reallly close by. DANGER. Seems like the kids are running the shop while mom and dad are away! Where's the manager?!!! Scenery and atmosphere is a positive.

My feelings about Colibri are lukewarm. I went there on a Wednesday night and it was completely dead. A few friends met me for drinks, Colibri's happy hour is a little perplexing (ends at 6pm and picks up again at 8pm). Agave Azul has way better margarita specials. I had the house margarita which was $2.50 during the 10 minutes of Happy Hour that I could enjoy it. The menu prices are little high. I imagine the portions must be pretty big to justify that. I ended up just munching on the complimentary chips. I got a real kick out of all the stipulations they printed on the menu. Gratuity added to parties of 6 or more, charges added for sharing, charges added for ordering more chips and dip, charges added for subsitutions and the list went on. Ok, ok, I get it. Kind of stand-offish if you ask me.

Average food and high prices for standard Mexican fare. Nice outdoor tables with lake view. Good prices for happy hour drinks.

My 2 stars are for the location & view, only. I agree with all the other Yelpers when they say this business thrives on the location. This place wouldnt last 3 weeks if it were located anywhere else other than Baldwin Park. I came for lunch because I heard they had lunch specials (my specialty). HARDLY SPECIALS. There wasnt a lunch meal under $8.99. Not that I mind paying $9 for lunch, but I can head over to Garibaldi's & pay $5 for a Speedy Gonzales meal which blows this place out of the water. Their chips & salsa were decent. Small portion, but decent & unlimited servings. Our server had no knowledge whatsoever on the menu items. Anytime we asked her to explain a certain dish, she literally said she had no idea & shes never really tried anything there. I ordered 3 enchiladas & my lunch date ordered the tamale's. We were the only customers in the restaurant & our order still took 15 minutes. 15 minutes isnt bad in a standard restaurant, but not when youre the only people in the building. When she brought out my enchiladas, she mentioned to my lunch date that they couldnt find the Tamale's she ordered & they suggested something similar. Lunch date agreed, she just wanted to eat lunch already. After 5 minutes, they brought out the tamale's she originally ordered & said they had been found. My friend took 1 bite & was ready to hurl. The flavor in this creation was...DISGUSTING, foul, the most unpleasant thing you can ever put in your mouth. So hard to describe, it was the Chipotle Mayo sauce. Im almost positive it was sour, theres no other explanation. I will never recommend this horrid place, I will never come here again.

This review depends heavily on when you visit the restaurant. When I've generally been during busy nights like Thursday/Friday/Saturday, the food has been very good and the service OK. But then I went a Sunday afternoon and it totally ruined the place for me. I believe a normal kitchen staff will generally get a Sunday afternoon off, so whoever the B crew was served a horrible meal. I got the Chiles Relenos, usually my favorite there, but they were actually cold and tasted terribly freezer burned. Are these things microwaved or something? It really grossed me out to realize they aren't serving fresh food. So yes this place was always good in the past, but this one bad experience has left me soured and I haven't been back.

I've been to Colibri at least five times over the past three or four months. There guacamole is huge, but I guess it better be for 9.99 as an appetizer. It's my favorite thing there. I've also had the spicy burrito which is dangerously spicy. I love spicy food so it was perfect. The rice is really good too, the beans are okay. I've also had the steak, it's okay, not my favorite though. All my visits I've sat outside because the view is so amazing, especially around sunset. Inside looks really nice though. This is a really good casual Mexican place with median prices and an amazing view. I'd recommend it, it has gotten way better than the old reviews, but it has become busier as a result.

Delicious! Everything about this experience was enjoyable. We were seated right away, outside overlooking the lake. Our server was there right way and made several great menu suggestions. The margaritas were delicious as well as our appetizer and our entrees. Great service, great food and very reasonably priced!

Definitely a great restaurant! I came in a bit later than the party I was with and the server came to get our order pretty quickly. I ordered the carne tlilli and it was pretty delicious. The pork was cooked perfectly and the sides were delicious as well. The guacamole served with the meal was pretty yummy considering I don't usually touch guacamole. The meal was very filling and I had another meal leftover after I finished. The portion sizes are great for the price! The customer service is absolutely wonderful! If I were to come to Florida again, I would definitely visit this place again!

Living in Baldwin Park got to say that there's not a great selection of outstanding restaurants as a matter of fact there aren't any. However if it's Friday night and you want a beer and some Mexican food and don't want to fight the traffic Colibri is an excellent restaurant to attend. Great salsa and chips and a wide selection of authentic Mexican food. Have to say even surprised at the prices are not out of line with what you are offered. Great spur of the moment restaurant and happy hour

Love Mexican food so I was really disappointed. Service was basic and food was lukewarm. The only thing good about it was the location. It's right on the water. Actually the drinks were really good so that does count for something.

I came here on a Wed evening to meet with friends and their kids. Our kids are all under 3 so we sat out on the patio where most people with kids will be. The environment and the view was awesome adjacent to the lake and getting the nice breeze. When I first got there, I asked for a high chair they said they would get it, they left, came back WITHOUT it, took drink orders and said sorry for not getting it and would get one... they left again... eventually brought our drinks again still no highchair. We placed our food orders, they said they would get the high chair... I finally went inside to get myself when I found out that they were out of them because they were busy. No one ever told me that, I would have been understanding if they communicated with me rather than buying time waiting for one to become available making it look like they were forgetting about it. Other than the highchair situation, When it came to the staff, the staff was super friendly and attentive to our table. Why only the 3 stars... well the drinks took a while to get to the table or to get refills, and the alcohol beverages sat empty for some time before the new ones would come along. Our queso appetizer was cold when we got it and was this semi chunk of cheese in a dish rather than a smooth and oozy cheese dip. We ordered 3 of these and for the most part they just sat there. We did order an guacamole dip which got eaten up pretty quickly, that was delicious. Placed our food orders, I was missing one of my sides, they said they would get it and well it never came.... ever. The food that did come was obviously ready to be served for some time as everything from my tacos to my sides were cold, not warm... but COLD. I ate it anyways as I was hungry by this point. My daughter didn't eat any of her food as she was upset most the time to have to sit on my lap so the no high chair situation showed its ugly face come eating time. The view is awesome here... the food and drinks could be served quicker or higher more wait staff for the busy times, and if kids come here a lot from which I here they do, maybe get a few more highchairs. As a parent... most the time a highchair plays a role as to whether or not I eat someone out. Only reason I stayed as this was a social event with friends... so the company was good.

Such a beautiful location, but tarnished for poor food quality and service. Went here twice, had a so-so experience the first time but working in the restaurant industry, we always try and give restaurants the benefit of the doubt and decided to return for the beautiful outdoor seating with our dog. Although friendly, service was exceptionally slow (my frozen drink was halfway melted by the time it even got to my table. meanwhile, I was still waiting with an empty water). Let's get to the food, the Mexican rice is white rice with carrots and corn in it. Tasteless as well as their retried beans. I got a combo in which the quesadillas and enchilada come together. Once I tried it and iT tasted like grilled cheese, I was informed that in fact, this Mexican restaurant uses American cheese for their quesadillas... Um, what. Guacamole clearly came out of a bag, and tasted like it. We've been done eating for at least fifteen minutes now, and as I write this review we are even continuing to wait for our check. I hate writing terrible reviews but this is just a place I will not return to.

I've been on this margarita kick lately. When my friend wanted to meet up somewhere for dinner in the Baldwin Park area, I immediately went to yelp to find myself a margarita. We sat outside on their beautiful patio on a Saturday night. Our server was very kind and friendly, although she said she was new so to be patient with her (service was a bit slow, but we were in no rush). The margaritas did not disappoint! A few rounds of drinks, some queso, guacamole and tacos... It was a successful night! I do wish that they stayed open a little later on the weekends, but I'll definitely be back.

I go here often for the food and the view. Sits right on Lake Baldwin, Cute little patio are they have setup. Service ranges from ok to good. Skip the typically Mexican dishes and go straight for the street style Mexican tacos! The tacos are small but pack a lot of flavor! The queso dip is a MUST! I put it on everything! Average prices. Overall doesn't disappoint.

Read some of the negative reviews but gave it a shot Thursday night. I was pleasantly surprised. The patio and lake view was great. The mild salsa is the best! $6 red sangria was excellent. They allowed me to make a custom dish....Mexican rice with grilled shrimp with white cheese sauce on top ($14.99). It was great. I will be back! Our server was friendly and attentive.

The location and food are good. Salsa is on par. Guacamole is tasty and fresh. Shared an order of fish tacos which were excellent. That being said...service was not good. Sat outside and it wasn't busy but we felt like we were bothering our waiter. He seemed upset we shared a dish and was annoyed when we ordered a small guacamole instead of the appetizer size. Will likely give them another chance simply for the food.

Pretty good food, and drinks. The location is great, and has a perfect view of the lake. However, staff is unprofessional, and offers poor customer service. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to hold a special event or if you are celebrating a special occasion.

I ate here on a Saturday night and sat outside by the lake which felt great with the breeze. They had premium cocktails on discount for $5.99 to start. The margaritas are pretty good and served strong. The menu has a ton of choices. We opted to start with queso and guacamole with chips, which were all very good. The guac is made fresh, as it should be. I had the Al Pastor and BBQ chicken taco. Both came on corn tortillas and were very good but I would have like to have had flour tortillas as an option. The service was a little slow but the waitress did a good job overall. I would come back!

Previously I would have given this restaurant a 1-2 star rating but they have improved the quality of service and staff tremendously lately. The food tastes good and the location is the best patio spot in Baldwin and perfect to bring your dog along for dinner!

Missing the mark. Colibri has great potential with their location and style but the service is so-so at best and the upkeep is poor. We go from time to time because it's an easy walk from our place and every time we leave disappointed. Little things like having an attentive server or a properly cleaned table are holding this place back.

Went for lunch on Saturday afternoon. The weather was nice so we sat outside. There were birds everywhere, at our feet, on the tables, because little kids were feeding them chips. Everything seemed over priced. We got tacos, which were affordable and okay. But the service was TERRIBLE. One of us got the wrong taco and by the time server came out, everyone else was done eating. He didn't even come to refill our drinks. So sad.

Service was outrageously good, food was delicious, the "hot" salsa and the guacamole were simple but yummy yummy yummy. My only complaint is that the portions were really small. The dinner portions seemed more like lunch portions. We will definitely go back again.

Can't believe this place has been here for 8 years, and I'm just now discovering it. Will definitely be back. The Pollo Chipotle was incredible...and quite spicy, the way it should be. Guac was very traditional and chunky. Needed a little salt but the chips were delicious white and yellow corn. Skinny margarita with agave was $9 top shelf. Small pour. Great atmosphere. Check it out!

I've been here twice and have talked others with the same opinion. The food is ok at best. Way over priced for the quality. I do not recommend going, but if you do I would say the queso and the guac is good.

First and last time eating at Colibri. The service was slow and the food was very bland. The guacamole was not fresh and looked like it was shot out of a ducks butt. The salsa tasted like tomato soup with no flavor. The only flavor came from dousing everything in their Valentina hot sauce. That with warm beer made for a very bad dinning experience. Taco Bell would be a better choice

Colibri is set in a really nice location, with an outside patio that looks over Lake Baldwin. In terms of setting, it's great. The rate at which the food comes out of the kitchen is pretty slow though. The service isn't bad, as the servers are attentive and ensure you never reach the bottom of your glass. They are also mindful of whether you need more chips and salsa, so that too is a bonus. The downside is that the salsa isn't homemade; if it is, they should save some time and buy it in bulk, because that's what it tastes like. I ordered a combo, consisting of a chicken enchilada, a beef taco and a sweet corn tamal. The enchilada was meh--the chicken was bland, though well-shredded, and the sauce wasnt anything special. The taco was flavorless as the meat wasnt seasoned and the innards didnt add anything to the flavor. The sweet corn tamal was uber dense and it was more like a mashed, sweet cornbread on a husk--though it appealed to my sweet tooth, it wasnt what I had hoped. The dishes came with guacomole and sour cream-- sounds like a bonus, right? Well...it was ok--the guac wasnt hearty and was texturally homogenous--#fail. Outta curiosity I sampled my friend's veggie quesadilla. It was better than my entire meal--packed with flavor in comparison to mine. The seasoned vegetables were also really well-seasoned. I was pretty shocked (and extremely covetous). Overall, nice location, good service, but mediocre food.

We went here after our Halloween 5K with about 20 people. We ordered the sampler platter for two. The chicken and chorizo were delish, the shrimp was fair as well as the steak and rice and beans. The guac seemed like it was from a processed squeeze bag. The drinks were tasty, but hardly had an alcohol in them. Not very likely to return as their are tastier and more authentic Mexican restaurants in the area.

One of my favorite texmex places that I have tried in the baldwin park area. I highly recommend trying the chicken fajita quesadilla it is awesome. If you are dining in and it isn't too hot you can sit outside and enjoy the view of the lake.

My fiance took me here for my birthday and the food was so good. Our waiter, Ali, was very courteous and checked on us periodically. After eating my appetizer which was a Mexican Fiji Salad, I was stuffed and had to take my entree home. This is some place I will visit at least once a month- best Mexican food in an upscale, Baldwin Park area. I'd also like to note that this was my second visit here; 1st time being in 2011 and both times I was impressed.

My husband, son & daughter-in-law & 2 grandchildren ate there for dinner. I had gotten a tilapia dish. It was very bland. I've had tilapia many times & it was always tasty w/a nice topping. I would not order it again. My husband ordered a quesadilla w/ beef & cheese. He said it was awful. My daughter-in- law ordered a dish (not sure what it was) that she's had many times, but could not eat because it was so overly spiced. They brought over a couple of sauces for her to try out, but they were too spicy. On the plus side, they offered margaritas for $3.50. Was it a bad night or a bad omen? My husband said he will never eat there again. I haven't decided yet.

I really hope the management reads this because Calibri suffers from serious mis-management. There was a lot of disorganization, lack of attention to detail and outright things done incorrectly. The food itself was fine but the place suffers from the managers obvious inexperience in running a restaurant. The restaurant has two sets of front doors with the host stand placed outside the doors. There is also a side door for servers to use to go out to the patio tables, but it is never used. Instead, servers are constantly going in and out the front door to service the tables outside. This is completely inappropriate. The door is filthy from being shoved open by the feet of servers holding trays of food. I saw one group of people request to not be sat at the table that is right next to this door. I don't blame them, who would want to sit next to this freeway? It's just as bad as being sat next to the kitchen door. And what made it worse was that I also observed that it took the server over 15 minutes to great this group of people at their new table. The servers do not seem to have "sections" which is common, standard restaurant procedure. Instead, they are all over the place. Our server had tables all over the restaurant, even outside. The table next to us had a different server, and the other table next to us had yet another server. How does that make any sense? Management doesn't seem to understand that servers should have tables grouped together to expedite efficiency. And speaking of expediting, there was clearly none going on in the kitchen. There were long lags of time when our server would disappear. Probably from having to go all over the restaurant to take orders and deliver food & drinks. Speaking of drinks, mine was wrong. When I told our server that what she brought me was not what I ordered, she seemed confused, and it took a REALLY long time for a corrected replacement drink to come to me. Another example of lack of management & attention to detail. All of the tables had candles on them but none were lit. Someone eventually went around & lit some of them. Many of the tables were missing salt & pepper shakers, some tables had cocktail menus, some didn't. My husband ordered a second beer when our appetizer was delivered but didn't get it until after we had eaten the entire appetizer. He saw the beer sitting on the bar waiting to be delivered but our server had disappeared again. My husband also observed groups of servers just standing around near the POS computer, not doing anything. Again, lack of management there. Overall, the food itself was fine, nothing special but decent. My meal suffered from sitting in the kitchen window for a long time; I ordered a chimichanga but when I got it it was not crunchy at all. It was soggy from sitting too long before I got it, basically turning it into a plain old burrito. It tasted fine, but not what I was hoping for. This place needs to send their manager to a training class because he or she has no idea how to run a restaurant correctly.

I had a very wonderful experience here at Colibri. We sat outside by the lake and it was just absolutely beautiful. Loved the atmosphere. The margarita I ordered was very good and I had to burrito asado which I really enjoyed. Our server was really nice and he did an amazing job considering how busy they were. Overall, we had a really good experience. Will definitely be coming back to try more.

I hate updating a review that goes from 4 stars to 2. It's frustrating because I used to really dig this spot. The outdoor dining on the lake is always lovely, however, the service in the last handful of visits have been pretty horrendous and the food quality is falling. I used to love the guac, so fresh and delicious but now it's just huge chunks of avocado with a very small amount of tomatoes and onion. Just lack lustering in flavor and the huge chunks make it really difficult to eat. The margaritas used to be my fav but they are pretty watered down and some taste like they are full of fake sugar. Not my thing. The taco salad yesterday, which is stated on the menu that it is served in a tortilla bowl, came in a regular bowl with 4 large chips on the side, really? The beef tacos are still really good but the service just makes it really hard to return. We waited 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive after we ordered them. Yes, you are immediately seated but sometimes it takes a while to get a server. I am very torn on this place now but the location really just sells it. So I am sure I will return but I won't be returning if I am in a hurry, starving or with someone from out of town.

2 stars is the perfect rating for Colibri. The food was good and the portions were fine though the service, prices, and drinks left a lot to be desired. We had a medium-sized group of about 7 which required two tables. When our server set down the chips and salsa, he only did so on one end of the table leaving half of us ready to dig in and the other half with major food jealousy - the worst kind of jealousy (until we asked for an extra basket - though he forgot extra salsa). This was one of the servers that looks at the menu while you order to figure out what you're ordering. The margaritas were small for their price and the the amount of time for the food to come out, even for a group of 7, seemed long (in line with the reviews of others). If you're starving, and have a massive craving for Mexican-style food, this will do the trick (though not quickly or cheaply). 2 stars.

Service is ok, food is decent but not amazing. Not the best Mexican food in town, but good enough. I had the pollo pibil, which was good, but a bit bland. Their salsa is mediocre. A solid C+ to B-.

Colibri is definitely a new favorite! Great service, beer, chips & salsa, & food. Love the view and being able to walk to it. Great place any time or day!

Service was a little slow getting drinks, etc. The food on the other hand was out of this world! Very good choice for lunch as they had a wide variety to choose from. I'll be back next time I'm back in town.

Disappointing. Got seated ordered and dinner took forever. the people at the table next to us kept getting their food and drinks all night long with little wait Weird vibe here too The Guacamole was really disappointing as well as all the food. This is one place I will never go back.

Oh man...poor Colibri. I've read the other reviews and I understand some of the complaints, but not all. The most commons negative reviews seems about their lack of service or friendliness. Coming here about a dozen times over the past 4 years, I feel the service is acceptable, so I'm not sure what was going on those other days. The problem I have with Colibri, and most other Mexican restaurants, is I'm usually not a big fan of Mexican food. Give me a hard shelled taco or a burrito bowl, and I'll be happy. Everything else, except for maybe an occasional enchilada or tamale, I just don't care for, no matter what Mexican restaurant I have it at. Plus I don't eat much beef, but I only like my tacos with beef, not so much with chicken. I've been trying to have a different dish each time I come here. So far my favorite is the Taco's Mixtos. I recently had the Fiesta Combination with the Chicken Tamale, Chalupe and Enchilada, which would have been ok, but the Tamale was cold in the middle. I had left overs, which I usually do with their dishes, and the next day I felt the meal tasted much better. Maybe it just needed to be heated up more and the seasonings had to marinate more. A review mentioned their nachos being colored. I guess they changed this, because last visit they are a normal nacho color. To reiterate about the ambience of the place, they have awesome decor inside, and sitting outside on a nice day or evening is a plus. I'll keep trying to come here, just because it's within walking distance of my house, but I really wish the food had me craving it more often.

Colibri has amazing POTENTIAL to be a great restaurant, but they are missing the mark on service. The location and food is good, but the attention to detail for the service is lacking. Simple things like refilling our water or salsa could have made our dining experience great!

Serviceable Mexican food. This place relies too much on their location. If the servers were more attentive, the decor and cleanliness were kicked up a notch, and the menu refreshed, it would be filled every night. Until this place differentiates itself from a Mexican chain restaurant, it won't shine.

Awesome food, it is really good, however, the service is not the best, you have to wait for a server to ask for refills, check or to order anything else...

Came by on Cinco De Mayo around 8:15 and the man that was hosting was extremely rude. Didn't even walk up all the way to the stand before he yelled out to me and my friend " I AM NOT GIVING AWAY ANY MORE TABLES TONIGHT!!" I understand how busy it was tonight, but he could have/should have said they were no longer seating anyone in a more professional manner.

Lovely view of the lake from the outdoor patio. The black bean soup is a favorite. We also love the sangria.

I'm honestly not sure how this place has survived so long in this location. The atmosphere is nice on the lake, with nice outside patio. The service wasn't obnoxious just slow. The server was nice enough and I'm sure most of the slowness was from the bar and kitchen. It took around 30 minutes from the time we ordered until our food came. Which wouldn't have been the worst except I think I have had better margaritas from a plastic bucket from a grocery store. We had the chimichanga, which wasn't terrible, just not good. We had the roasted corn and seasoned veggies. I know not necessarily a typical choice at a Mexican place, but still. There is no excuse to serve canned corn. They didn't even attempt to his that it was canned. It was literally unseasoned canned corn. Seasoned veggies were okay though the red sauce on the chimi was just tomato puree with some chili powder. I'm not even that picky and not easily offended by food. But I'm not coming back.

Sub-par food and poor service. I should have checked the reviews before we settled on this place. The food took over an hour to come out and it wasn't very good when it did finally come. The waiter wasn't very attentive or helpful. I definitely won't be going back. There are plenty of other great restaurants in Orlando.

  • Andrick L.

This place was OK. The value is inconsistent with the price of the food. I purchased a Chimichonga and 2 margaritas for over $30. I've had better for nearly half the price. This was my biggest frustration. Service wasn't terrible, but if was slow in the beginning. The atmosphere was good and had a nice Mexican vibe. We were inside, but the outside seating looked as though it could also be a nice place to eat right on Lake Baldwjn.

This is a wonderful place to eat if you want to sit down, stay a while and relax. Eat outside, your missing out if you sit inside. If you want quick food and want to leave as soon as your done then maybe this isn't for you. Eat outside, order a beverage along with a snack and then dinner and you will have a good time. My family (wife, son and me) have been coming here for years and we always enjoy ourselves. Service is definitely more european then american when it comes to speed of service, good or bad depending on your view point. Try the fish tacos or the stuffed chilies, both great. You can get the stuffed chilies with meat or vegetarian.

I have been here several times for drinks and for the food. The food quality has greatly improved, unfortunately the service has not. Colibri offers great Margarita specials. The chicken tacos are a must try and the chips and salsa were much better this time around. They were actually seasoned! My most recent visit was yesterday at lunch. The young woman that waited on us was just okay. We had to ask for napkins, my unsweetened ice tea was served, but not with alternative sweetner options, I had to track her down to ask for them. Not particular friendly. Like I said just okay. Colibri does have a beautiful view going for it.

I've wanted to check out Colibri for some time. I came across some mixed reviews, so my expectations going in weren't too high. The restaurant is a lovely space. It's styled quite nice. Though I'm sure the majority of customers choose to sit outside and take in the beautiful view of Lake Baldwin. There are some happy hour specials Monday - Friday 3pm-6pm. I ordered the house margarita for $2.50. Ok, I'm not quite sure how a margarita can end up tasting like medicine, but that's how mine tasted. Oh well, I got a $1.80 Dos Equis instead. Along with their weekly happy hour specials they do offer a different drink special every day. The complimentary chips & salsa were good. I split the fajitas with my husband and it was plenty of food between the two of us. For $1.50 more you can get 4 more tortillas. My daughter ordered the kid's nachos and was able to add chicken no problem. We thought the nachos would be just chips & cheese, but there were beans hidden underneath. Those were quite large for a kid's meal. Our service was fantastic. The food was fine and the atmosphere was cool. I think if you get some drinks, order some appetizers you're bound to have a good time.

I really enjoyed the food. Fresh, tasty! And the home made sangria was good. Service was good for me. Seems a lot of people have had a bad experience, but I had a really good one. Our waiter was attentive and polite. I will come back again. The view was great! Only reason for 4 stars was if anything my waiter could have been a little more conversational. But all in all it was great!

  • Cassidy L.

Pork and salsa were tasty! Service was extremely slow....our food took really long to come out and we had to seek someone out to fill our water. The cheese dip was not worth it and the refried beans and rice had no flavor. Would I return? No

Amazing. Some of the best Mexican cuisine in this area. My first visit i showed up starving, and was seated and served very quickly. Sat outside and enjoyed the food. One of the top 5 quesadillas ive ever had. I wasnt sure if it tasted so good because i was so hungry, so I came back two months later for round two. Same result. Great food, great service, awesome location. I save this spot for special occasions with friends.

Let me being by saying the view of Lake Baldwin while enjoying my lunch was wonderful. We were out and about, my wife's mom in town for the holiday, and came here after showing my mother-in-law the Baldwin park area. Being fans of Mexican food and having passed by this place a few times, we chose to actually stop and eat. The food was prepared as asked, the drinks came and were tasty. I think the decor inside was nice as well and the service was attentive, even for a slow part of the day. I think where this place suffers is that the view is so great that expectations get to soaring and that isn't fair. The food is tasty and though we didn't enjoy it, the outdoor seating is plentiful.

Nice local place with cute decor, great location and fresh, tasty food. Been there 3-4 times and always happy when walking out. Service is good, it's quiet, clean and pretty inside, they have outside seating by the lake for nice days and food tastes good.

Lotta sketchy reviews on this place. Either you were all in or all out so it seems. I was simply going in with the hopes of finding a good drink coupled with a nice view. Colibri delivered...but that's not it. Unlike many yelpers, my service was tip top and the food was mackadocious (read: good). Went with a large party and a sprout around noon on a Saturday. Zero wait time. Immediately got a table on the patio and ordered a Margarona. Decent drink. Novelty really, but it was cold and it had booze in it. That's what I was going for. Didn't get an entree, just split the app sampler with my better half, we chose...wisely. Two little cheese quesadillas each, a bangin amount of fresh guac and some little mini flautas (2 each) sufficed for a little lunch. After the Margarona, I got the midori colada. Not a big midori fan, but I'll be damned if this wasn't the exact drink I was dreaming about while ripping weeds out of my bushes a few hours prior. I would love to go back and take advantage of their lunch specials...might feel a cold coming on...little sick, possible call-in to work Monday to try a burrito. Pro tip: The spicy sauce is not for the timid. I am a heat seeker and this stuff was no joke. Loved it, in moderation. Tread lightly (take note, a one part guac one part spicy sauce combo was, as Cartman would say, Tits dude).

Was seated by very friendly hostesses but the waitstaff never came and after more then ten minutes of taking in the really nice waterfront view, and watching waiters and waitresses handling the tables around us, we left for a better venue. I feel like if you're going to take more than ten minutes before at least saying hi your service is going to stink and I don't really want to give you my business. ...but the hostesses were nice. Even on our way out, they obliviously thanked us for coming. lol

I thought I had written Colibri up...I wish I could add it to one of Brandi's useful "needs improvement" lists. Read Keith H's review, he's got it on point. The location is fabulous- the food, drinks and service are not. My friends and I figured we'd decide if we wanted to stay for dinner based on our apps and drinks. Chips were the tri color chips on my visit. (yuck), Queso was bland and mostly processed cheese tasting, salsa was OK. Margarita's (rocks) were not good, really, not at all pleasant tasting or tasting of any tequila. Sangria (red) was not good either, but not as bad as the margaritas. Bottled beer friend was the only person enjoying her drink at a table of 5 and the food (apps) ordered remained mostly uneaten. We headed across the way to eat (and get a decent drink) after an hour of lameness here. Save your money.

I have been here twice so far. I will def come back - but primarily for the view. Not just the lake view either - but the constant buzz of activity going on around the lake. There is a continous parade of Moms, Dads, kids, strollers, dogs, couples, joggers, first date dress up night'ers and more! Couldn't take my eyes of the activity! Both times I ate here I wasn't blown away by the food. I have a friend who LOVES the sangria - I'm not a huge Sangria fan so I will acquiesce to her declaration that it is the best out there! I am a huge guacamole fan and I can attest to the fact that the guacamole is very good and it is a large serving. Other than that the meals have not impressed me much. I will go back though, for a couple of beers and a big bowl of guac and some people watching whenever I am in the mood!

First, to be honest, we're talking 4.5 stars, and that is within Colibri's very reasonable price point. So that wouldn't be equivalent to the same stars I'd give the fancy sushi place up the street. But I decided to err on the high side in part to offset some of the terrible reviews that don't reflect my experience at all. We moved to the neighborhood 6 weeks ago and pretty much avoided Colibri due to the Yelp reviews. Finally, we needed a new place to go and decided to try it out. So, so glad we did! Service: First rate. Super friendly, attentive, and quick. Lots of check ins and follow up on various requests, and our order was exactly as asked, with all the special requests. And we were given a comment card at the end - if you're worried about the Yelp reviews, well, they are clearly reading them and responding. I'm impressed by that. Food: We both ordered the salsa verde, and it was delicious. Fresh warm corn tortillas, delicious sauce, and my bean soup on the side was just great. My husband ordered vegetables instead of the soup, and that was a bit of a mistake, as those could have been from the freezer for all we could tell. Those should have been left off the menu. The one thing they could do to really put this place over the top would be to upgrade the guac (not bad, really, but, you know, a really fresh guac is just so wonderful) and the salsa (which was a little ketchupy). A couple little tweaks could make this place a real favorite, but as it is, I'll be back to enjoy the delicious food in a killer location.

They just lost me. Used to be a semi-regular at colibri. Close, amd after a days work, did not want to battle any more traffic. Menu was just redone. Some good, some ok. Issue is, prices just went thru roof! I you are slow and need more sales, you don't squeeze it from your existing clientele! Went for lunch on Saturday, nothing below $12.00! Least expensive app is $8.0, with rest $10 plus. We're talking lunch people! I I want cheap and good, il go to geribaldis (always consistently good for), ad if I want to pay higher dollar, I'll go to Cocina on park!! Good luck with new menu colibri!

Never again! I'm from LA where Mexican food is everywhere. Went to this restaurant twice for lunch and both times it was AWFUL. The service was terrible. The food even worse. There were 2 or 3 other tables, and yet we waited at least 20 minutes for our food. Ordered a Chimichanga - looked and tasted like a Mexican pop tart It probably was reheated from a frozen product. If it was cooked to order, they need a Mexican chef! Can't wait to go back to LA! Linda from LA

Colibri has been very good to my wife and I as not only vegans, but also as late night eaters due to our busy work/school schedules over the last year. The food is not necessary the best Mexican I have ever had, but it is definitely in my top 5 for quality food. We have only probably ever had one on-par/not great service experience here, but it happens, we are all human. 3.5/5 The Service: I have read many complaints about poor service here and we have yet to experience any. Yes, there were times when Colibri is jam packed with people and we have to wait a little longer for this and that, but besides one unusual night, we have never felt neglected as customers. There are times when we have to wait for refills, but the wait is never astronomical or unreasonable. It is not that the waitstaff is bad, it is the way the staff is distributed among the crowd. We have noted that our waitress will be working with us in the front corner, then running across the restaurant to wait on a table at the window, then she will disappear outside for a few minutes. I do not know what management is thinking assigning tables like this, but it would be much more efficient if one waiter/waitress would get a block of tables in one area. To recap, any less-than-stellar service we have gotten has only ever been during a packed house and specifically due to the attention of the waitstaff having to be spread across a large area rather than concentrated in force. 4.5/5 The Atmosphere: I find the atmosphere charming and my wife absolutely loves it! For holidays, Colibri always decorates with very nice decorations which switches it up. The music is occasionally too loud for our taste, but it was never something that ruined a night for us. The booths are comfortable and eating outside is great when the Florida weather is cooperating. 4.0/5 The Food: I will not lie, my wife and I get the exact same thing every time we eat at Colibri: -Veggie Fajita with black beans, no Mushrooms, cheese, or sour cream. -Extra set of flour tortillas. -Extra side of Mexican rice. -A side of homemade habanero salsa and lots and lots of fresh regular salsa. Honestly, we really like the fajita. Colibri does not cheap out and just give green bell peppers. The veggies include onions, green bells, mushrooms, carrots, and red bell peppers! Ask anyone who knows us and they will tell you that we love red bell peppers, so Colibri gets a +1 for that. We do wish that they would do some broccoli and/or zucchini, but we are generally happy with the food. Most of the time, I would rate about 85% of the time the vegetables are cooked perfectly with not too much oil, but there are times when there is just a little too much cooking oil for our tastes. The black beans are much, much better than the refried so go for those and the salsa is spectacular. There are times I just go and order the fajita so I can eat a few baskets of fresh chips and salsa. Overall, Colibri is a great little Mexican restaurant. The service for us has always been generally good, I just recommend trying to go there not during your typical weekend dinner rush if you are picky about service. The atmosphere is cute and well done. Most importantly, the food is solid and consistently tasty even for us vegans and they are open until 9:30-10:00 pm most nights allowing us to eat late if our classes or work gets out late. Lastly, to the management of Colibri: Please review your waitstaff assignment policies. I really believe that the restaurant will run much more smoothly if an employee just has to worry about a little square of 4-8 tables rather than running all over the place. Thank you.

Here's the deal, I really wanted to give this place 4 stars because the food was excellent. I ordered the hot and spicy burrito and the portion size was HUGE. I could only eat half and saved the other half for lunch the next day. Another upside was the margarita I ordered, best margarita I've had in years. I hate when margarita's are made with too much sweet and sour, but this one barely had any and tasted fresh and authentic. Also, the view of the lake on a clear night was gorgeous, make sure to walk off your dinner with a stroll to the gazebo. Alright, now the downside: Terrible service. Just terrible. We were greeted by the hostess who was very nice and were seated in a booth in an open area where everyone could see us, 5 minutes later he hostess came by and asked if our server had come to the table yet, 5 minutes later she asked again. Really?? 10-15 minutes of waiting for our server. I was a server for 5 years and I understand when it's busy, it's easy to let a table slip your mind, but the restaurant was slow that night so there's no justification. I also ordered a blue moon on tap which took another 15 minutes to get to the table only because I had to remind the server that I had ordered a beer, but then he decided to turn into Speedy Gonzales when it came down to getting us the checks. Whatever.

As a newcomer to Baldwin Park and loves of Mexican food, we had high hopes for this local restaurant. Hostesses always pleasant and the location is wonderful overlooking the lake, but that's where it ends... After 5-6 times being seated at the bar and in a booth, we experienced poor service with communication from servers almost zero. Food ranges from good to very good (corn tamales are excellent) but the inattention to customers and slow results from the kitchen are enough to turn me away, finally. Last straw was a 55 min wait for our food while sitting at the bar on a busy night - noone from the manager to the bartender (who we know fairly well as previous regulars) offered an explanation or apology. Only because it was getting late did we wait for our food, with one order coming out cold....I hope they get it together as locals will support your business, not the occasional visitor - and competition is happily coming to the Baldwin Park area.

I've been here twice now and rate it a solid three, three and a half. It's not particularly authentic mexican food, but then that's tough to find in most U.S. places. However, it does better than a number of spots I've been to... I agree with some people about the service. It can be slow and the waitstaff isn't especially engaging but so far that hasn't hurt my dining experience. The view is amazing and worth a trip for that alone. Don't get the house margarita. It's pre-made in large batches and that's how it tests. For the extra $1, get one they make per order.

Wow! Really good food!!! Our server "Daniel" was excellent. We started with queso & chips (not spicy at all since we chose not have jalapeños added... Just melted cheese) I ordered the fajita quesadilla (with steak) it was delicious! I had enough to take 1/2 home for lunch the next day! Great portions for the price! I would highly recommend this restaurant! You can't go wrong with the food and the location and scenery just adds the cherry on top!

Last night we held a small get together of Taco Tuesday patrons at Colibri of Baldwin Park. The location is great, which is the saving grace of this place. I ordered the queso to start off with. It comes out in a large oval bowl, which is far more than anyone needs. Its white in color and lacks any type of seasoning, spices, flavor etc... Seriously, this cheese, which is all it was, has less flavor than steamed white rice. We added pepper to ours to help, but it did very little. As it started to cool, we noticed the cheese getting harder and harder. Eventually it got to a point that allowed a spoon to stand upright without assistance. lastly, it was overpriced for what you receive. Next I ordered a margarita with no salt. It was decent, no complaints. For my main dish I ordered one beef taco and one enchilada. One thing I will say is that the rice, refried beans and echilada were consistent with the queso. BLAND! There wasn't a hint of any spices or flavors in the rice, which was orange in color. Where does the orange come from? Where is the flavor??? The enchilada was chicken and red sauce. How can you have a sauce with no taste to it? Im not sure but Colibri pulls this off like a professional. However, my son and I did enjoy their beef tacos. The beef was full of flavor, with a little kick at the end. They are a little small thought. The come on a 4" tortilla. The service was slow for the lack of customers. We had a reservation for 16, only 12 showed up. They put us in the bar area so we'd have room, which was cool. but, we had no idea at first who was the hostess, where we would sit, who our server would be etc.. It seemed unorganized. Like I said, we had 12, but we weren't needy or ordering more than usual amounts of food. Lastly, I feel they're very overpriced for what you actually get. The portions are average size, the tacos are small and the service wasnt very good. So, charging higher than most places in the area that serve similar food and adding an additional 18% tip automatically is going to turn me off of ever returning. sorry.

The only reason this place even gets 1 star is because I discovered Nacho Mama's today after leaving Colibri. Inside of restaurant was totally empty. We sat outside. There were two servers running around, 3 tables besides mine, and not a one of them said a word to us. They even looked at us and still chose not to say hello. Ten minutes later without even a hello, I walked my ass back out. Thank God for Yelp that directed me to Nacho Mama's right down Colonial...my new favorite place. The view doesn't make up for the terrible service. Won't be going back. EVER.

This place is OK, what makes it 2 stars is the view. The food not so good, if you want a salad, don't come here. I order it only because everything else on the menu is too heavy. The good thing is their happy hour special, but don't go for the food. Go there for the drinks and then head out when you get hungry.

I was excited to visit this place knowing there was a Mexican restaurant near. Unfortunately, I am now dismayed and will never return. The food was cold, service was slow. There was nothing about this restaurant that would make me want to return. Such a shame, it is in an ideal location ... if only the food were good, i would go just to sit outside and look over the lake.

I just had my best experience EVER at Colibri yesterday! A couple girlfriends (Colleen B. and Elizabeth F.) and I went for a relaxing Valentine's afternoon at Colibri after some great pedicures... We mostly just wanted a couple margaritas, but we ended up having the best meal to date here! For starters... V-Day special: $4 top shelf margaritas! What a deal?! Then we got some guacamole (the special one, not the regular dip... I forget the name) and it was AMAZING!! Big chunks of avocado, tomato, onion, fresh lime and cilantro... YUM! Colleen said she didn't even like guac, and ended up eating a ton of it! SOOO good!! Then I had the hot & spicy burrito with chicken... I've had this one before, but for some reason it was WAY better this time!! So good and HUGE but I ate the whole thing because I couldn't resist! Our waitress, Melissa from Paraguay, was so sweet, helpful, attentive... The BEST server I have ever had at Colibri!!! She said she is at the bar sometimes, but I would definitely recommend asking for her if you go... She was great! They also had some live music... a guy playing an acoustic guitar and singing. We saw him setting up inside (because it was cold out), quite near our table, and I was worried it was going to be too loud, but it was really great! Not so much that we couldn't continue our conversations, and a really nice addition to the atmosphere! He was so great, too! Should've asked his name... In short, this visit definitely restored my faith in Colibri! I hope they keep up the great work!!

I fell in LOVE with Colibri a few weeks ago when I went with Alexis N. and Colleen B. We started off with their fresh guacamole and chips along with their top-shelf $4 margaritas. That was by far the BEST guacamole I've ever had (no joke) and I quite often crave it so I'll need to be going back sometime soon! It wasn't the regular dip one, so don't order that one. It was the more expensive one but with all the big chunks of fresh avocado, tomatoes, onions, and pure deliciousness - it was completely worth it. Definitely made to order. For an entree, I got the steak burrito - PHENOMENAL. Everything was so fresh and seasoned perfectly. I don't normally order steak anything - I stick to chicken, but not during this visit! And oh I was so happy I ordered the steak. The meat was cooked perfectly and combined with all the fixin's it was a great meal. I was delightfully surprised when they had a guy show up to play live music. I am a big live music fan and he wasn't too loud and he didn't sound bad - it was a great compliment to my dining experience at Colibri. We had a great server - Melissa. She was very attentive, adorable, and had some great recommendations (hello! she recommended the guacamole :) ) -- Yum! I can't wait to go back!

Average Mexican food, average experience. Pricing is fairly comparable to other Mexican restaurants. Location and view of lake is great in the heart of Baldwin Park.

Granted, the view and location ARE spectacular. But everything else is kinda........meh. I went there only once, so it could have been a flop. When sitting down, there was something lingering in the air, almost as if one of the bathroom toilets had backed up. It turned into one of those conversations where one of you keeps asking the group "hey, do you smell that?", lol. Went with beers and a couple of enchiladas. I don't think the food was necessarily bad, its just that I've had better. I truly think you could go here and easily make your own good time if you had to. Couple (or more) margaritas, just some standard chips and salsa, and throw in a simple no-frills quesadilla and sit outside near the lake. However, since I've yet to create that daydream I mentioned just now, I have to say 2 stars for now. ;-p

Most of the time, what we've ordered for pick up has been good - the fajita nachos, black beans, spicy burrito, carne asada dinner, cheese enchilada. The salsa is awesome! Not so much on the fish tacos - i would avoid those unless you like flavorless toppings on fresh but plain fish. The few times we've eaten in, the service was just okay - coming from Chicago and having worked in the industry for the last 10 years, it seemed that they were a new place and working out the kinks in service while not yet ready to handle a big rush. However, i've since found out this is not the case. Every other or every 3rd time we've ordered little things were switched. Flour tortillas instead of corn, sour cream when we've asked for none. FYI on the spicy burrito - the rice and beans come inside the burrito and not on the side. Overall, I would give it a try - the drinks are good and reasonably priced, atmosphere is decent, and service is okay.

This place is in a great location (lake front), but it has terrible food and crappy margaritas.

We frequent this place and always try to sit outside by the lake. It's Mexican food! And it's great. Ive read the past reviews, which may have been the case before, but with new management they've really spiced up the food and drink menus. I love the margaritas and fajitas are awesome and plenty for two people to share. My kids enjoy the new kids menu options and walking to the lake while we wait.

This is my 151st review. Out of all of those reviews, this is only the third time I've given a venue 1 star. I'm sharing this with you because I want you to know that I don't assign 1 star ratings lightly. We were served the two worst margaritas I've ever tasted at this place. I was stunned. When we first arrived I was really enthusiastic because they have about 20 varieties of margaritas, so naturally I assumed this was their specialty. We ordered an Organic and a Mojito (really the only two made with fresh juice instead of a mix). They were downright terrible. They tasted like they were made a week ago with dishwater. After that experience we left, so I have no idea how the food is. As other reviews have pointed out, its the location that is saving this place. Such a shame, really. If you're curious, we walked right next door to Lago ( yelp.com/biz/lago-orlando ) and ordered two more margaritas. They were very good. Lago is Mediterranean and doesn't even have margaritas on their menu, and yet they were able to serve us ones that tasted far superior in every way to the ones we got at Colibri.

I wish this place would hurry up and go out of business so an owner that actually cares about their customers would fill it. This place survives 100% off its location, that's it. The "rules" on the menu just make me laugh. The "happy hour" is more restrictive than airport security. and the service, oh god! is it possible to train someone to be rude? I'm not an expert on Latin music but I think they were playing Puerto Rican garbage last time I was there, I was scared some gang bangers in a low rider were going to pull up.

everytime I come here it seems none of the servers or host have a clue what's going on. Especially today when I walked out after not having been greeted by a server for five min. I am usually pretty forgiving with this kind of thing as I am a server. After having sat there, a girl finally came up to ask if anyone had got us drinks, we replied no, she threw her hands up and said oh my God!...neglected to get us drinks, went to the hostess stand to see which of the 4 servers standing around it were going to take us, finally the server who was sitting in the wait area walked over and said the host didn't tell anyone. We got up and left, we clearly felt like an interruption of their social hour. previous trips to Colibri we're just ok. The tacos mixtos are decent, I liked the chirizo, but it's a bit salty. Their queso is good. All of the outside tables have hand sanitizer on them, kind of gross and definitely tacky.

There are definitely better spots in Orlando for Mexican, but this is one of the nicest locations and more attractive restaurants. The food is just average though.

Pricey for Mexican food. But around here there are not many choices. It does seem to be pretty good and best of all you can sit outside and enjoy the wonderful view.

Three stars based on interesting (as in the Chinese curse of "May you live in INTERESTING times") visit on a Friday night, good weather (the good weather meant we wanted to sit.. outside.. like tonight.. please oh uber-hostesses) Arrived shortly after 7pm. Were told we would be seated in about 20 minutes. At 30 minutes mom went up to the hostess station to check on seating. At 35 minutes I went up and was a big enough witch that we got seated immediately. Review is a combo of the bar and seating experience. -1 Star - Hostess b*tches. I wish I had arranged my star system in the way back machine to give on like a scale of 1 to 10. Cos these two horrible, nasty, clueless girls deserved a negative 10. WTF is wrong with you? When I walk into anywhere I should want to have fun, be happy and spend money. If you are going to wear cute, tight clothes and $8 high heels, then please put an occasional smile on. You might hate me, but my mom is cute and old and tips like a drunken sailor. - 1 Star - The bar. What is the look here? Upscale with the $50 bottles of booze on the shelves or frat house with the Heinekin sign and mirror leaning against a wall, not yet mounted? And why were finished chips/salsa left on the bar for 10 minutes? Also, when servers are coming and going on a constant basis, can none of them straighten out the bar chairs? Also, how in the heck can you run out of Grey Goose vodka? At 7ish on a Friday night??? WTF? +1 Star - Food is fantastic. I grew up in Texas and live between LA/Spain. I know my Mexican food. Whomever is whipping up the tamales, guacamole and chicken fajitas in the kitchen should be crowned. I don't find $11 for Guacamole to be excessive when you get a massive dish that would easily satisfy 4 people as an appetizer. The Tamales de Elote, at $9, were the best value of an appetizer I have had in some time. So tasty and rich, topped with a creme sauce (just a squiggle!) and slice of avocado, these tamales rivaled the ones I have had in a little town in Chihuahaua. Mom really enjoyed her Bisteck Mexican (though it was not cow but chicken!). It was a platter of tender white meat with spices, refried frijoles and some rice, a small portion of lettuce too. She also got flour tortillas with her order. + 1 Star - Our server, Salvador. What a thoughtful, earnest and enthused fellow. He made extra effort to motivate our order through the kitchen. The guac came in about 10 minues, the entrees in 20. nice expediting! -1 Star/ +1 Star - The bartender manager, Ricky. Not an excellent bartender as personalities go. IMHO, he and his sister would do much more benefit to Colibri if they stay out on the floor *managing* and not serving. Management and service is critical. + 1 Star - Location. Not a lot of places in Bore-lando can you enjoy liquor lakeside. This would be one. - 1 Star - The music/lighting. I know the DJ playing salsa seems like a great idea, but bank the bucks and play some similar CD's. Put the $ toward another busboy so the one lad I saw doing, well, everything, doesn't drop dead! Lighting was dim and rather romantic in spots and glaringly horrid in others. Beware where you sit, cougars! + 1 Star - Fellow patrons. Seems a good place to take mom, but also for dates, families with kids, groups of friends, etc. What will help this place swim is the peeps. + 1 Star - Easy Parking. Okay, this is sort of a lame thing to star-ify on, but I just couldn't bear to give this place less than 2 stars. I want them to succeed. Comeon guys. Overall, it's a bad sign when other patrons who've come up to nick a chair from your table mention the bad service. It's a good sign that they are back cos the food. Food is much harder to improve than service. I hope to see this place much improved by my next trip. Added note: I have bug bites from the sitting outside. I am not shocked, as this is Florida, but they are on my... bootie. Damnable open-wire outdoor seating seats.

I've been 5 times, to really give them a shot. The first time was during their soft opening and we won't speak of that experience. Next trip I got a burnt quesedilla, it was black and had the burning smell coming right into my nose as it was delivered to the table. The waiter put it down and walked away so quickly it took me a minute to get his attention back. When I did he said "Yeah, I thought it looked burnt to me too." Ummm, why bring it to the table? I went again and had margaritas outside with appetizers. Service was a little slow, but we were spending time drinking so it really didn't matter. Repeat of that experience. Now for the fifth visit. Along with the slow service the food was luke warm to almost cold, everyone's order, all four of us, when it came to the table. What I found from this place is that if the food is good, then the drinks aren't. If the food is bad, the drinks are good. (Yes, there is such a thing as a bad margarita.) Their service is typically slower than normal. It took three requests and 15 minutes of just pure waiting to get the check on my last trip. I think I'll stick to drinks and appetizers if I go back.

The food was good, the drinks were good and sitting out by the lake is reallly nice. The service could be better, but it wasn't awful and our waiter was good. I'm happy to see a decent-style Mexican place around here. I'll go back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
