Stopped in for lunch during a workday. Lots of new places to eat at around here, so really curious about this stand alone location boasting it's "famous salad". Started with a French Onion Soup bowl. It's a nice benchmark to start with since nobody can mess up French Onion Soup, right? Wrong. See my soup picture? Well, my entire meal ended there. The bread floating on top of a massive bowl of broth and covered in melted cheese was stale. Gross-stale. Not -even- soaked- in- a- bowl- of- hot- soup- can- fix- this- stale. Considered going back before reviewing, but with so many other good places around, I couldn't bring myself to do it. You know, if you had a menu only two items long, and those two items were really good, I wouldn't even care about the lack of choices, just sayin'. Hope you guys revamp because as a former server it has to be really embarrassing serving this.

Like the others that have posted, failed to read the reviews before our visit. Epic Fail! The immediate warning sign occurred when asking what the "soup of the day" was to find out that it does not change, it's the same soup everyday (If you watched 'Kitchen Nightmares' you'll find the humor in that. I ordered the meatloaf with mushroom gravy. The meatloaf was awful, and had a sour taste. My dinner date ordered the chicken sandwich, that was very bland & dry! Had my meatloaf replaced with the "7 hour" slow cooked pulled pork. Not as bad as the meatloaf, but also disgusting! The manager gave us complementary dessert.. Strawberry shortcake, that was made with canned strawberry's.. We're in Florida, how hard is it to get some fresh Florida strawberries?? Waitress and staff were nice, but I will not be coming back!

I hate to give away the ending first, but this time I will ... Pappas Ranch was my worst dining experience in recent memory. I thought I'd start with a salad, easy right? Ewww. A combination of iceberg and romaine, with only 3 dressing choices: Bleu Cheese, Ranch and Greek. Not even oil & vinegar? OK, so I tried the Greek. Completely and utterly tasteless. So I ordered the "chicken pot pie". It looked great at delivery, until I moved the pastry "top" and looked underneath. This will sound like an exaggeration, but I assure you, it's not. They took a can or 2 of "mixed diced vegetables", added some sort of gravy and three (3) pieces of chicken (approximately 1/2" square) and that was the Chicken Pot Pie. It wasn't edible. So you think that was bad? My friend had "Baby Back Ribs". When have you ever seen Baby Back Ribs that were 8" in length? They weren't Baby Backs, at all. There was nary an ounce of meat on the ribs and they had been prepared (I suspect), by boiling and painting on some obscure brand of cheap BBQ sauce. The Mac & Cheese side order was awful. So you think maybe this was an inexpensive experience? Noooooo. No drinking, no dessert and one $5 appetizer (fried pickles, which weren't bad, btw). The total bill before they took off my Chicken Pot Pie, was about $50 for the two of us. Stupid me. I read the reviews but had been then once a few years ago and it wasn't too bad. I was starving, it was on the way, so I stopped. I should have just starved! I can't put into words, how bad the food was ... just horrendous.

Used to eat here a lot. My husband works close to Pappa's Ranch and used to eat here at least once per week for lunch. Over time the food quality went down and the prices went up.

We just got back from having our valentine dinner. Forget my first review, everything was perfect. Only problem was so much food. We walked out with doggy bags. Prime rib was perfect just the right amount of fat, French onion soup was to die for. Our waitress was top notch, she brought her A game to the table. The manager(s) checked on us a few times, thanking us for coming. WE WILL BE BACK

  • Duane T.

Steak was good, wife liked prime rib sandwich. Was clean, good service, would be hard to complain. There is just nothing extraordinary that makes me want to go back immediately, but I would definitely go back. I would give 3.5 stars if I could

First off, after being seated it took 20 minutes to get a waitress and that was because I flagged a manager down. Then, the first three items I ordered they were either no longer carrying or were out of...how is a bbq place out of ribs at 6:30 on a Wednesday. Then I settled for the shrimp which was ok, not great, and the order came out with all the wrong side dishes. The waitress from Alaska we had was very sweet and apologetic, otherwise I would have walked out. Not one manager came over to our table to apologize. Horrible experience. Food mediocre for the price. We probably won't go back after that experience.

Had the Pulled Pork, Baked Beans and Potato Salad. The meat was good, came without sauce and the sauce options were ok, not what I'd prefer but decent. If you are close, don't have time to find something else then you might want to give the BBQ a try. I wouldn't drive out of my way to get there.

We had driven by this place a few times on our way to other restaurants and thought we should try it out one day. Well that day came. The restaurant and decor was nice, looked new. But when it came to the food and drink not so much. I tried the grilled chicken sandwich with fries. First of all, there were maybe 5 other tables there at best on Saturday at 4 O'clock so our food came out pretty fast. It was a large helping of fries, most of which were soggy. The sandwich was disappointing. Way to much cheese for starters and just kind of thrown together and greasy. I gave this place two stars because I feel bad. With such a nice looking facility I expected more. I'm rooting for you.

My wife, daughter and I were out looking for someplace to eat last night. The usual local places were jammed with people waiting. We looked elsewhere. Found Papas Ranch 3/4 empty. Thought it was odd, even said to my wife it wasn't a good sign. Yet we ordered. Nothing too technical. Pork Chops, Mahi Mahi, and a grilled cheese sandwich. And onion straws as an app. Well, here's where it begins, our app shows up after quite a long wait and our server asking "you ordered onion straws right?". Well, when they show up, we literally just passed plates around and here comes the entrees. My daughters grilled cheese was so cold, the cheese was not even melted on the inside. She asked for baked potato rather than fries. This was an up charge per the server... no problem I said. My pork chops were "ok" yet thin and way over cooked. Something you may expect from waffle house, certainly not a steakhouse. MY potato comes out with sour cream on it, even after we ordered 2 potatoes with only butter, and my daughter got fries, even after the up charge discussion. And my wife's Mahi Mahi was under cooked as well. Pink.and jello like in the center. It came with 2 sides, she asked for mashed potatoes and green beans. She only got the potatoes. Sent the potatoe back, finally got the 2 with butter. Yet mine came with bacon and cheese on the side?????? Ordered butter only. The server was tremendously slow, had to ask several times for drink refills. It was becoming increasingly clear why nobody was waiting to get in here. You could almost cut some slack for some errors if they were slammed, but at barely 25% capacity it should have been flawless. They took the app off the slip, only after he asked if he could take the still full basket away and I said we hadn't been given any time to enjoy it. The bill was still 60 plus, for what I personally consider cut rate food. For all the reasons above we won't be back. A shame as its the closest so called steakhouse to our home. Should have listened to my wife and endured the wait at Outback...... at least I wouldn't feel robbed.

Some places are just average, and Pappas Ranch in Odessa is one of them. We were a large group celebrating a birthday last night. Our server was efficient but not overly friendly and a little sarcastic. I couldn't tell if it was just her personality or if she was annoyed with us, but something was up. Maybe it was just because it was a Sunday night, but that's how I noticed most of the staff to be--efficient but not really there. Food came out correctly and in a timely matter though so it wasn't a huge deal. I ordered a cup of their Avgolemono soup to start (Greek lemon orzo chicken soup) and found it to be delicious. It was very hearty, the consistency was good and it had just enough lemon to be accurate without overpowering. For my entree I had the chicken pot pie. The chicken pot pie was definitely only OK. It was a little dry (not enough sauce) and the veggies inside were clearly frozen (lima beans and corn were a dead ringer for a pre-packaged freezer mix.) Not a huge deal but chicken pot pie is something so simple there really isn't any reason to cut corners. The sauce was tasty though and it was nice and hot. My companion's entrees all seemed to be fine as well--nothing wow-worthy but nothing inedible either. My sister's boyfriend got a chicken sandwich that looked incredible, so maybe this restaurant is better for a quick lunch than a large dinner with family. The restaurant was clean, and so were the bathrooms. Decor was minimal but nice. They have 2-4-1 happy hour specials and a large bar. I bet this is a fun place to tie one on on a Friday night. I'll probably be back again sometime if we're in the area (my parents live right down the road) but I'll probably stick to the more lunch-type items instead. Average.

Several of us were getting together for lunch. Pappas Ranch seemed like a good choice because it was centrally located. Unfortunately, this was the only good thing about our visit. The facility itself reminded me of a Bob Evens on steroids--a big red barn. There was a banner outside announcing that lunch was available. Unfortunately, there was no lunch menu--just the regular menu. Service was very, very slow. We had to flag down our waitress several times. I ordered the brisket sliders--after all it was suppose to be a steak/BBQ place; my friends ordered chopped Greek Salads and the Fish Tacos. We waited almost 25 minutes for our orders. My sliders looked good--however, there was no sauce. When our server asked if we needed anything, I asked for sauce, and a side of pickles and onions. Ten minutes later, she arrived with a bucket of sauces and told me that there was an additional charge for the pickles and onions. I told her not to worry about the additional charge, but could she quickly bring the pickles and onions. Another 10 minutes later, they arrived. My friends's Greek Salads were the usual Pappas Greek Salads. The Fish Tacos were OK. The only thing that arrived in timely manner was our checks. Won't be back!

From the outside, this is one of those intriguing looking places that begs you to stop. Even the inside appears like an old Tex-Mex style set-up. But, that's where the good stuff stops. I can get past a wrongly poured mixed drink and flat soda. I can even get by with a wilted salad, as long as my dinner is good and service meets basic expectations....But the meal had no taste, with steak being way overlooked and the potato...well, let's say that it needed to be cooked. The ONLY thing worse than the meal was service. Our waitress would disappear for 20 minutes at a time to go outside and light up. After each pack, she would come back in smelling like an ashtray. When my friend left exactly 15% tip (to the penny,) she followed him outside to sarcastically tell him he forgot his copy of the receipt. He chuckled and said he was trying to forget the whole experience.

This place doesn't exactly work for everyone...but if you know the Pappas family's reputation for great tasting....ANYTHING -- you should at least give it a try. Their menu has just about anything you could want in a Moderately priced joint like this. I decided to write this review for one single item -- one that might get attention from someone who likes this dish as much as I do. The Conch fritters. Conch fritters are usually the appetizer I will order EVERY time I see it on a menu. Most places use the same mix or recipe.... NOT Pappas. I go there....almost entirely for this one dish. If grouper is not fresh...it's not served....PERIOD. Disappointing when it's out.... but speaks volumes for the integrity of the owner/chef.

Eric wanted to take me out for my birthday. He asked me where I would like to go. I was hungry for a juicy steak. He found Pappas Ranch on the Internet. It was our first time. It was not exceptional, but our waitress was friendly, polite, she took care of us. I ordered the ... Avegolemono Soup it was really good, the flavor, texture, I do not use crackers in this soup. For Dinner I ordered my 6 ounce steak medium rare, sweet potato fries, and broccoli. My steak was juicy, tender, flavorful. My sweet potato fries were poked to perfection. My steamed broccoli was not over done nor undercooked. This was Saturday aprox. 4:20 pm / 1620 hrs. Eric ordered the Ribs / brisket platter. I tasted his brisket, his meat was tender, juicy and lots of flavor.. Hats off to the chef. .. I would like to go back. We live Springhill ... Not to close. I was happy it was clean from ceiling to floor. Many places are dusty, if it is out of reach... It's dusty. Not Pappas Ranch. :D.

I would have to say this place is, as the rating describes... Meh... There are too many other places in the area to skip to come here. Four of us went... service was good. Red sangria MUCH better than the white. Fried catfish was tasty but both steaks were tough. Mine was over-cooked but I didnt complain. Crab cakes were small and over-fried. Dad was having problems with his prime rib sandwich but I cant say what they were because he grumbled about it but wouldnt say anything. Overall, it was just one of those places where you just want to finish your meal and get out of there.

Don't waste your time.... There was nothing good to say about this place! You'll get better service at McDonalds then this place... You know the service is bad when your ice melts in your water and still haven't received your food! On top of that...how do you run out of baked potatoes then substitute it then run out of the substitute? I will never come to this place again!

  • Kim N.

This place was okay. My fried catfish was good as was the potato salad I ordered with it. The coleslaw was also fine. My husband said that his BBQ meat was good (but I could tell that it wasn't anywhere close to the best he had ever had). I was excited about sharing the sweet potato fries he ordered, but they weren't that great. I had two and didn't really want to eat any more. There must be better places around.

This was our second trip to Pappas. I was not impressed the first time, but was lured in by a Living Social deal. My husband and I had to get certain items, but they were items we generally like. For starters, we had the spinach and artichoke dip. Meh. It was bland and the spinach was long and stringy and the choke pieces were huge....probably the wort spinach and artichoke dip I've had. Ice tea...please people who serve ICE tea...if you pour warm tea into ice, you have semi cold tea with no ice. It's a lame complaint I know, but I hate having to ask for a cup of ice after the fact. I had the southern stack chicken. It was okay. Just seemed kinda bland, like the dip. The fries were great. I wanted a baked tater, but they only have those at dinner. So I got fries and sweet potato fries. Both tasted great. I ate more fries than anything else. My husband had the steak, and it as pretty tasty. We ended the meal with cheesecake, which quite honestly, tasted like frozen cake that was sliced and thrown on a plate. So basically, we decided this would not be in our rotation again. Another complaint...the kids meals. I believe my son had the chicken and fries at 4.99. Average price for a kid meal. (Daughter had the ribs at 6.99). But they don't come with drinks. So add on 2.50 for a drink for each kid! You lose me on that, cause now I'm paying 7.50 and more for a kiddie meal. When it comes down to it, Chili's is cheaper and tastier. And offers free kids meals almost every week if you get a coupon. Everything we had at Pappa's we can get at Chili's, for a cheaper price. Service was nice, place was clean.

Average on a good day. The service is spotty at best, and while the barbecue itself isn't bad, the sides are pretty awful. The mango slaw is too sweet (and mushy), the green beans taste like they came from a tin can, the sweet potato fries are soggy, and the Texas toast literally tastes like plain toast. Basically, the concept is far better than the food. Pappas knows Greek, but when it comes to barbecue, I'll stick to family-owned places with fat guys named Leroy and Big Rick. Sure, they smell like feet, but at least they can lift an entire pig into the smoker.

I've never been a big fan of any of the Pappas' restaurants. They always seem to lack in the food quality and have higher than average price tags. The Pappas Ranch follows in that tradition. As far as food goes, expect your traditional BBQ. The closest comparison is Sonny's, and it is extremely close, some of the dishes could almost be exact duplicates from what I saw. The portion size was small, especially for a BBQ place. For the price, you are really not getting a great deal. The customer service was ok, but it was nothing that really made me want to come back. The decor was ok, kind of kitschy, but not over all horrible. I'd only really come back to this restaurant if it was just for a quick sandwich. Otherwise, not worth your time or money.

I so badly wanted to love this place. I love Pappa's Greek food and I love BBQ so when you put the two together...HOWEVER, I was disappointed. The menu had a lot of great sounding dishes but with a party of ten, we all mostly found the food to be just average. I ordered the combo platter with two BBQ meats and two sides; pulled pork and wings. Neither were very memorable. Everything was sadly just so-so to me.

Worst meal ever. Will never return. Meat rancid, "grouper" older than the flood, service slow and inattentive. Avoid at all costs.

Great place to stop after work. The food is good and the service is fast and friendly. The bar staff is experienced and they have a good selection of top shelf liquors. This place is a little off the beaten path but worth the trip.

Great atmosphere and great food. We had the brisket sandwich, sirloin steak and ribs. Big portions! Salsa was excellent and the warm bread was sooo good. We'll be back again!

I stopped here on the way and it looked like a charming rustic barn. We sat at a booth and were quickly served menus and drinks. We had the pulled pork nachos to start. It was pretty good, lots of pork and nachos, the only complaint was that they could be warmer. First time we ever tried catfish, it was pretty good, so were the fries and string beens. Also good was the prime rib au jus sandwich and the pork quesadillas. The service was good and the prices are very moderate. I liked it.

I wanted to try a local place that I'd never been to, so I headed to this place that I had passed many times. The staff was very friendly, and the place seemed clean, but the food was completely awful. Poor quality, poorly prepared, and it made us sick. We started with the nachos. It was just a pile of chips with some cheese and really dry pulled pork that was full of huge chunks of fat. Hungry, and they weren't totally inedible, so we ate them anyway. Our meals arrived, and we were hopeful. French fries were good, but not crispy like we requested. Sweet potato fries were pretty inedible. I understand not preparing them as requested when the place is busy, but we were basically the only ones there. The country fried steak was basically a fatty steak they fried and dried out. There is more to making country fried steak and clearly the chef did not know that. Buffalo chicken is pretty hard to mess up, so I thought it was a safe choice. The chicken had a layer of fat, and the sauce tasted like it contained ketchup. Totally gross. We were hungry and spent $50 on this fine meal, so we powered through most of it. Bad choice! We spent the remainder of the evening with severe stomach aches. Definitely keep driving.

Ever seen a place steadily go down hill? This is the defination of it. The place is empty at dinner time on Thursday. They have gone to a limited paper menu. When you get your BBQ sauce its in a little single serve condiment cup. Potato salad and beans were so salty i couldnt even eat the. Will not be back here, should be closed up in about 2 months.

  • Chuck R.

Went there for lunch today, ordered the pulled pork sandwich and my spouse ordered the Greek salad. Waitress never stopped by to ask how our food was, and never received a refill on our water and iced tea. I feel I shouldn't have to ask, that's the waitresses job. Ordered a separate side just to try (baked beans that had jalapenos and bell peppers), but the side came out more like a taste test instead if an actual side item, and they charged $3.29. If I'm paying $3.29, I would expect to get a side item that's more than 3 bites. Being a foodie and love trying out restaurants we've never been to, I have to say that I'm not sure I'll ever go back to this one - or recommend it to anyone based on service alone.

I ordered the beef brisket and they came with two side and additional fried or grill green bean which is so yummy. The servers were helpful and able to take order from our big groups in a quick and neat way. The price is little bit high for a student like me but acceptable to the quality. So I will definitely come back when I have a chance.

Decided to check this place out since it's close by but I didn't read the reviews first. Needless to say, it was... Odd. While the outside certainly looked interesting, the inside was an awkward mish mash of decor and big open spaces. The food selections seemed more like bar food and less like a steakhouse. Our waitress was friendly and did manage to steer me away from one of the more horrible food choices. Nothing we ate that evening would bring us back though. Not sure what I was hoping for from a Greek steakhouse... Maybe lamb and fish specialties? Oh well, live and learn.

I am a big fan of the Pappa's line of establishments, we eat frequently at Besa, Flamestone and Pappa's Market Cafe. So this review is particularly painful to write. I went to this establishment with a work group for dinner. First, finding the entrance was confusing, but once we got in, I really liked the decor and atmosphere. Our server was very nice and efficient. It was happy hour, I was sad to learn that the wine had not been ordered and very little of what was on special could be had, so I ordered the Sangria. It was brought quickly, it was tasty, I especially liked the cinnamon rim. The food.....yikes. Here is where we have all of our trouble. We ordered nachos, and not a stitch of cheese was on them (on the menu that way too). They were Meh, at best. I personally ordered a Deconstructed wedge and the Chicken with sun dried tomato and artichoke sauce with a side of kick-ass beans. My salad was limp shredded iceberg, topped with some bacon, a teeny bit of avocado, tomatoes and red onion, with a side of blue cheese dressing. It was okay. The chicken, was cooked fine, but the sauce was awful. It showed up on my plate and had separated. I cannot believe the cook didn't make a new sauce, but slopped that crap on there. There were probably three sun dried tomatoes and not a single artichoke present. They did not impart their flavor either. Just salt, salt and oily yuck. The beans were ok, but certainly not "kick-ass". There was zero pride or attention to detail coming out of the kitchen. My coworkers who ordered the Prime Rib said it was fine, the BBQ had problems with overcooked chicken. And what kind of BBQ place only has two sauces?!?! Unreal. The guy who got the steak loved it but it was cooked too much as to what he ordered. Normally, I would give this level of food three stars, but coming from the Pappa's brand, I am deeply saddened and a bit betrayed. I would recommend this place to people who enjoy extremely bland, dull, and overcooked food. Foodies need to stay FAR, FAR away.

If our server had not been so sweet, the experience would have been an absolute disaster. Food was truly bad. I understand it's not Bern's, but the blandness was inexcusable. The decor was garish & the barn design leads to a cacophonous echo throughout. The majority of the staff seemed apathetic at best- most especially the manager who just appeared annoyed that there were guests in the building. Besides our lovely waiter, no one smiled or seemed to realize that it's called 'hospitality' for a reason. A Greek tragedy in the making.

Have been to Pappas Ranch on several occasions and we haven't had a bad meal there. The owner is attentive to detail and is diligent about ensuring a good experience. The Greek salad is almost a meal in itself and the prime rib is particularly tasty. This place knows what it does well. You won't find sushi or enchiladas on the menu, but the kitchen turns out consistently good meals at a reasonable price.

My family and I enjoyed another evening here at Pappas Ranch. Food was delicious, the service from our waitress was great, and the hostesses are always so happy and helpful every time we come in! Great experience.

Okay food, but mediocre service. The one time I went they were out of baked potatoes, key lime pie, and cheesecake...at 7pm on a weekday! Also, my husband's iced tea was cloudy and he said it tasted weird. The waitress was nice enough but she didn't return to our table to take our order until about 20 minutes after she had dropped off our drinks. We were actually in the middle of discussing paying for our drinks and leaving as she walked up. The place wasn't even 1/3 full, so there was no reason for it to have taken that long. We didn't even get a bread basket until we had already been there almost 30 minutes. People were seated right behind us several minutes after we got there, and they got their orders before we did. We likely won't be going back because it just wasn't worth the amount of time it took to get our food and the fact that they were out of so many things.

I cannot understand the previous reviews. We were six for dinner. The service was attentive and quick. Everyone had something different from the kitchen, and after being served, advised that their meal was as ordered and totally satsfactory. I am particularly fussy about how my steak is done - the kitchen hit my order bang on. Many restaurants give you horrid veggies as a side. Not here - my broccoli was prepared to perfection. Would definitely return. We have already recommended this restaurant to others.

Relatives insisted I try this place. Had the obligatory Greek salad; not anything like I remember having at original Pappas in Tarpon Springs. I ordered BBQ ribs with sautéed green beans and cole slaw. The ribs were decent. The green beans were horrible, so overdone that you couldn't even cut them in half let alone eat them The coleslaw had a fishy smell, could not eat it. Other guest ordered appetizer nachos that were OK. Child had chicken fingers which were just OK. Bread pudding for dessert was absolutely delicious. Chocolate lava cake was stale. Won't be heading back there anytime soon.

This place is horrible. Do yourself a favor and just don't do it. Greeks in a barn not sure what to serve. Everything we ordered was bad. Never again

This review is for their Greek salad which we ordered to go. I grew up eating at Pappas' in Tarpon. This Greek salad is the same they served at their restaurant with the potato salad. I had a craving for it the last time I was in town and my daddy came to my rescue.
