This place is great!! Beats any other pizza place in town. If your driving though drop in you won't regret it. The people there are so friendly and the food tastes like it's straight out of Italy. Everything is good can't go wrong

First time here, just got a meatball sandwich and a steak n cheese sandwich with fries. Prices look comparable to every other place, have to come back for the pizza and pasta. But what we had today was very good. Wait staff are friendly and service is fairly quick, food was HOT!! Good job Sammy's

I had heard a lot of good things about Sammy's Pizza so the wife and I stopped by after being at the DMV which is in the same shopping center. Walking in the first impression I got was a little dated, and was then sat by a giant golf mural. I checked twice to make sure we didn't just walk into a golf country club restaurant. Nope, it's Sammy's. I ordered a pasta fagioli which came very fast to the table, but was more like the taste and consistency of lentil soup. Don't get me wrong it was a good soup but not your typical pasta fagioli. After the soup, we ordered a large pizza with onions, sausage and mushrooms. We requested the crust well done, as we like a crispy crust. Now I know what you are thinking, the crust was soggy right? Wrong, this was he best pizza crust I have ever eaten...It was perfect. Sweet with just the right amount of salt and a great crunch. Then I tasted something that just didn't sit right with me...what is that? Woha, CANNED MUSHROOMS! What the heck! Who uses canned mushrooms on a pizza? When I make a pizza at home even I don't use canned mushrooms on my pizza. I had to take a double take and yup.....canned mushrooms. Watery, tasteless, soggy, processed, canned mushrooms. How hard is it to cut some fresh mushrooms and throw them on the pizza? What is the thinking here? I was about to send the pizza back but my non-confrontational wife asked me not to, so I didn't. So here we have a pizza with the best crust I have ever tasted let down, betrayed by the lack of respect from the cook of throwing on canned...well you get the point. The location is convenient, the staff friendly, the prices reasonable, and the bathrooms clean, but I won't return due to the fact that the cook seems to think that for some reason, canned mushrooms rule the fresh kind, and they don't. When I order pizza, I wan't it made from scratch not somewhat scratch, and partly processed. Shame, such a great crust!

Above average pizza, other dishes are okay. I'm not picky about the sauce but others who are tell me they are not thrilled. I can't help but be loyal to the place. It's been here since long before there was anything else. For that reason alone I will still patronize the place. Friendly atmosphere, if you're from Brooklyn you should be comfortable.

I'm a little biased towards Sammy's (especially if you're read my review of Pavorotti's), since he and I grew up in the same basic area of Brooklyn - no, we never knew each other - but we both knew the names of the local pizza joints. It also doesn't hurt I live close by. Nowadays I don't go in as often as i did (I'm trying to lose some weight) but when I do the food is always good and hot - even to go orders come out great. I've had most of the pizzas, calzones, strombolis, and the eggplant and chicken dishes, but my favorite is still the Fra Diablo. Washed down with a Peroni or some Chianti, it makes for a great Italian meal. 4.5 out of 5 for me only because when the snowbirds flock to town, the poor waitstaff seems to be undermanned so service can sometimes take a little bit - but HEY! This IS Florida and we are in the SOUTH and that's the norm anyway. Only one thing would make me give it true 5 - offering pizza by the slice like he and I grew up with, and maybe selling some of that "Italian Ice" we used to get at the walk-up windows...... MANGA!

Wow the reviews on here are shocking! I am very, very picky about Pizza and have had it all over. This place has some of the best NY pizza out of NY. In a small town like Ocala it is even more shocking to find such high quality Pizza. I live in a big city and Sammy's beats most of our places hands down. I wonder if the reviewers have an axe to grind with the place, do not like Ny style pizza, or hit them on an off day? I have been going here for over ten years since my parents moved to Ocala. My brothers , nephews, and NY bred parents also love Sammy's. (They are all on the search for NY pizza eaters too) I have never smelled any off or weird smells in here, only yummy food. Another plus family owned and the staff is very friendly. They also use the real good sausage and not that gross, rolled fake stuff.

Overall, I really like the place for pizza only! I wish the other menu items would get up to speed with the delicious pies. :)

Good pizza at a good price. Not that chain store crap that has taken over the country. The chicken parm sub is pretty damn good too.

This is the BEST Italian food ever!!!! It's so good that I drive 1.5 hours to get some great food and it's worth every minute of my time. The chicken parmesan and eggplant is one of my favorite dishes! The lasagna is also awesome! Sammy and Colleen definitely provide the best food and customer service. Try it out... You won't be dissapointed.

Oh, Sammy's. I'm all about supporting local eateries, especially in a place like Ocala where the majority of restaurants are chains. But, Sammy's is one I can X off the list. First off, it smells like shit when you walk in. I'm speaking literally. Busted sewer pipe? Colostomy bags? I'm not sure, but there it was. Mom and Grandma noticed it too, but since it was way past 4:30, they were ready for some food. It wasn't very crowded, but you would have thought there was a line stretching around the corner from the way our waitress was running around yelling, "I'll be with you guys in just a moment! (moments in Ocala are apparently especially long)" and telling other customers, "next time you come back maybe we won't be so busy, and I can chat with ya." Two different people took our drink orders before our waitress took them a third time. Mom's salad had a big chunk of plastic wrap hidden in the middle, but that helped us find out that the salads aren't made fresh, just plopped on a plate, wrapped, and stacked in the back. Everybody said their main courses were o.k. Mom had the "house special" (shudder), Grandma eggplant parmesan, husband eggplant parmesan hoagie, and I had a small veggie pizza. I have to admit, the pizza wasn't bad, but not good enough to make me eat there again. On the plus side, it's the next day and I'm not sick.

No! Not Sammy's! What happened? I went back and discovered that the dough is completely different (is it friggin' frozen now?). The pizza is just not the same anymore. What a dreadful shame. I am sad.

I went to Sammy's for dinner last night and it was great food in a family friendly environment. The waitress did a great job even though we were a large group and came in close to their closing time. I ordered the shrimp scampi that had a lemon butter sauce and it was delicious! AND they were large shrimps and plenty of it! Not like some restaurants where they give you 4-5 tiny shrimps. Others with me had the chicken parmesan and the eggplant dish as well as the baked ravioli and thought it was the best. We asked for more bread twice and the waitress brought back fresh hot bread each time. We had the cannoli for dessert and it was greattt! Overall it was a great experience. Sammy even came out to make sure all the customers were satisfied and checked with each table too! It's a nice family environment with great food! Give it a try... you won't be disappointed! ps. Their sweet tea is awesome!

I read many of the other reviews but decided to try this place anyways since it was recommended by a local. I had excellent service and all the food at our table was served piping hot. The fresh bread they serve while you wait was also served steaming hot! I had the chicken ala Sam which is chicken with spiral pasta, red peppers, spinach, and artichoke hearts and a delicious garlic butter sauce. It wasn't to heavy but I still left feeling full. The entree was served with a salad nothing fancy but still good. I got my salad with the house italian which was great. This is no super fancy italian place but I had a good experience altogether.

Had a breakdown on 75S in Ocala. The mechanic we ended with ( awesome Auto Tech on Hwy 200) DROVE US to Sammy's while they fixed the car. Pleasant, big servings, garlicky and great ambiance of NY and FL. NIce Chianti too.
