Great Price, fresh and hot food, and prompt service. I like their salsa a lot, it is really spicy!! They also have a lot of great lunch specials.

Wed night .99 cent margaritas and. The food tasted fresh and the service is outstanding . The cheeses used must be home made because it's the icing on the cake when I am eating a taco

Excellent food! Hot, Fast & plenty of it! What else could you ask! Burrito supremo, quesadilla, taco salad... All excellent! We will eat here again when we are in the area. Staff was friendly, restroom was clean, $ was right.

El toreo is the original Mexican restaurant in Ocala and this is the first location. The staff are friendly and attentive. Service is top notch; better than restaurants costing 3x as much. Your drink won't go dry even during a busy lunch hour. Food is so-so. I really love chili rellenos and the ones here aren't that good. I give the food a 6/10, but it's very close to my office so I eat here frequently.

What kind of restaurant is out of Diet Coke? When we walked in, three guys were standing around chatting. Send someone to the Kmart across the street and solve the problem. The food wasn't as good as it used to be, either. Rice was dry and hard. Beans looked and tasted slimy. Tacos were dry and flavorless. I won't be back. My husband actually got sick after we got home.

To be fair the place is a dive. They recently added some lovely patio seating and repainted the outside but the inside is definitely rough. Chipped dishes, bent forks, booths beat to hell but the best vegetable quesadilla ever, so you just have to accept it. Their chips are first rate too, not greasy or salty and I love the salsa because it's less chunky (and therefore more authentic) than most salsas. It has a nice kick. The rice is usually dried out but the re-fried beans are tasty. There are definitely more than a few items which are probably frozen and you should avoid ordering things that would not be freshly made (like jalapeno poppers). I usually get the tamales, a taco or enchiladas and the chile rellenos is yummy too. I really think the people are nice and they are probably all Mexican since I'm pretty sure they all speak Spanish. Also I've seen a lot of Mexicans eating here which is a good sign for a Mexican restaurant. I've been going to this El Toreo location for eight years btw and it has been consistently good all these years.

Loved it. Fast service . My wife and I ordered the Fajitas. Came sizzling hot and was ALOT of food. Had to request sour cream though. We could have ordered one to feed us both. We ended up getting to go boxes and ate the rest when we got home. Will definitely stop the next time I am in the area.

We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon; beautiful sunny day; and sat outside on the patio. We promptly got good Nachos and salsa. The menu was loaded with goodies. My wife had delicious enchiladas and I had beef kabobs with grilled onions and peppers. Both order came with the standard refried beans and rice. Mine also has some lettuce with guacolmole. The food was hot and delicious. The service was good. We both had dessert: one a chocolate chip cake and another ice cream with chocolate sauce. Both were good.

I make it a stop every time I get to town, and will continue to do so. My enrite family eats at El Toreo each time I visit the area, and we were never disappointed. It's as close to Mexican as you're going to get in Florida, and the place takes care of the customers.

I went to El Toreo for the Ocala.ME Meet and Greet with a group and everyone enjoyed themselves. We all had good food and even a few drinks. Since there were a couple of people we got a free drink from the manager. the food was fresh and tasted fine although probably not the best Mexican food I have eaten. I think they should spice it up more but they probably tone it down for their regular crowd of senior citizens.

Not the cleanest-looking, but good food! Love their white shredded cheese. Can't go wrong with Tacos!

There was a time when Ocala was even smaller than it was today. Let's say, oh, 20 years ago. El Toreo was one of the few restaurants in town and definitely the only Mexican place. My parents used to drag me there a few times a year and El Toreo was my first experience with Mexican food. When I was a teenager, we all moved to Texas. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that, not only do I like Mexican food, it is the only thing I want to eat. For years, my family and I ate Mexican food 4-6 times a week at dozens and dozens of restaurants. I never found a single one as bad as El Toreo. Now I live in California and continue to enjoy great Mexican food on a regular basis. I can't believe that I hated Mexican food more green beans for the first 16 years of my life. So one star to you, El Toreo, with your "salsa" that is essentially a bowl of hot sauce and bland, tasteless enchiladas. You exist only because you don't have any competition.

This place is just NASTY! When you first walk in, the restaurant smells bad...and not like Mexican food either! The booths are dirty and ripped. Nachos are either from a bag or some kind of strange tasting reheat....certainly not made there. The red sauces tasted like canned tomato soup....a first in any Mexican restaurant for us. This it truly bad food. I doubt there is one single thing on their menu that is actually not frozen or pre-prepared; right off the Sisco truck. Don't fall for the 'two for one' thing either...it's still bad value. Worst Mexican food EVER!

NASTY STUFF!!!!!!!! The rice tasted old and gross. The place stinks when you walk in the door. The waiter was short with us and rude. WAY Overpriced for the quality of the food. I wouldn't feed this stuff to my dog. Have you ever seen the show Kitchen Nightmares? Gordon Ramsey would have a field day with this place!! Save your money, and go to Taco Bell...you'd enjoy it much better!!!!!

We decided to try the food at lunch time and was very impressed. The people were friendly and prompt and the food was wonderful!! I love the salsa and it went great on top of my steak burrito. I didn't think I could finish it because it was kind of big for me, but it was so good I did! Defidently give this place a try. Plus the kids eat for 99 cents on Sundays and Tuesdays :)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
