Such a disappointment. We'd been vacationing in Naples and went to Thai Basil hoping for some quality Thai food. Not so here. The food we ordered was below mediocre. The rice was overcooked and mushy. The entire dish came out in less than 3 minutes and tasted like it had all been prepared by a microwave. The whole restaurant smelled like sewer gas. We saw 2 people come in and immediately leave due to the odor. We won't be back.

The restaurant was full when I walked in so I considered that a good sign. I ordered the pad thai (mild). The spice (or lack of) was perfect for me. However the dish overall was just so - so. It was drenched in sauce and lacked flavor. The woman at the table next to me got the duck and she seemed to love it!

I don't write reviews especially negative ones but this place deserves one. The service was terrible even though the place was empty and the food was expensive and tasteless. Ordered soup Tom Yong which I have never had that was bad. This one was bad. God help the money in Naples if you have this Thai restaurant as popular.

Staying in the Best Western nearby I went on the recommendation from fellow Yelp'ers to visit the Thai Basil and have to say I wasn't disappointed. I had the Pad Thai and having discussed the scale of spice with the waiter I decided on a Thai hot level 10 (which was comfortable for my English palate - any hotter and I don't think there would be much taste to the meal). My daughter also had a Pad dish which was a milld in the spice scale and she enjoyed it. My Wife had a mild Shrimp Teriyaki which was also enjoyed. The food was quick, the waiter was friendly enough and helpful. Yes the decor is tired, but if its a quick meal of oriental origin and good quality that you are after I would recommend. Only real complaint is I couldn't see their menu posted anywhere.

Ate at Thai Basil last night (12/18/2011) and had mixed results. I ordered the Pad Thai (my favorite Thai dish) and received a flavorless dish with an unusual noodle. More like a fettuccine noodle than a traditional Pad Thai noodle. My wife had the green curry which was excellent. The portions are huge. The green curry was in a quart container. My Pad Thai filled a regular take out box. I love Thai food and have eaten it in Thailand and all over the U.S.. The green curry was as good as any I've had, but the Pad Thai was the worst.

I really hate to write this review because the people who own and work at this restaurant seem really nice, but being a good Yelper means being honest and so it is with a heavy heart that I say: Thai Basil is totally mediocre Thai food. My husband and I came here for lunch during the week when they offer some really reasonable lunch specials. Along with whatever dish you order, you'll also get a spring roll and a bowl of soup, meaning that for about $10 you can have a pretty filling meal. A lot of Thai places are quite pricey, so costwise, Thai Basil is a great deal. But is it satisfying? Not really. The food is totally generic and tastes like countless unremarkable Thai places I've eaten at in small town America. The food doesn't taste bad, but it's not special or memorable in any way. It doesn't have the complex flavors that really good Thai food can have, and it also doesn't seem to feature really fresh veggies and herbs the way that authentic Thai food does. Our server was friendly but not obtrusive, and it seemed like he was concerned with providing us with a good experience, so that's great. But a restaurant needs to have good food in order to get into my good books and I just felt like Thai Basil was so lackluster there. The decor is also really outdated and stodgy (think of your grandmother's living room in the 1980s), and when we came in, there was this really noxious rap/hip hop music playing. Trust me when I say it was a relief when they switched on the dulcet tones of the CantoPop instead! So in the end, you can come and pay money to be treated well and experience the textbook definition of Americanized Thai food, but if you're looking for something a bit more inspirational, look elsewhere.

I'm from Seattle - where Thai food is abundant and often replaces most forms of any other asian food. I thought this place was pretty good, the service was even better. The thai iced tea was perfectly sweet, we also got free dessert when we dined here - can't beat that!

Large portions but not great Thai food. I got pad thai and it was alright. Ive definitely had better but I read the reviews that this was the best place for thai. Not authentic at all.

Great flavors and spice. Red curry with Thai spicy was delicious. Soup is great when you add the red chili powder and chili sauce. Thai tea tastes great. All was good.

Read the reviews from other Yelp!ers and couldn't be happier that I went to check it out myself. This place was so delish! Great Thai food in a relaxed and casual atmosphere. Has a real "home cooked" feel to the food. Prices were reasonable and the plates were a good portion size. The decor is nothing to rave about but it's a nice, clean neighbourhood restaurant. We had the cold shrimp spring rolls, house salad, Tom Yum Ka soup, Panang curry beef and Pad-Thai. Nothinig too adventurous because it was our first visit. Each dish was brought out with minimal wait and the server was attentive and friendly. Can't go wrong with this place for yummy Thai food.

The food here was excellent! The inside is a little dingy, but I got takeout and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would definitely go back.

I walked in to look at a to go menu. Guy was laying over the counter.. Saying it's soooo slow now because of summer, and kept asking me what I wanted to eat. He asked me if my nails were real? I said no he stated "oh yea that's why they're so big". Rude and what guy asks that? They lost my business&future business.

I had been here a few months back and was not a fan. But went back recently and I found the service to be good as well. I know the reviews weren't as exciting, but the food was excellent. Ingredients appeared to be fresh and the flavors were very good. Everyone deserves a second chance.

Best Thai restaurant in Naples. Fresh food friendly service and a nice atmosphere. We have tried many of the dishes at this restaurant and they stand up to NYC Thai. They are very good at tailoring the spice level to your liking.

I stopped here on a whim at lunch, as my husband had told me this place had been reviewed on yelp. There was a tripadvisor sticker on the window, which was a good indication that it was decent enough for people to review. I had the massaman curry with chicken lunch special, which came with rice, a philly roll and their house soup. They had wonton soup that day, and I thoroughly enjoyed the broth. I never usually make it past eating the wontons and a few sips, but I truly finished everything in the bowl. I also ordered a sweet thai iced tea. It was very refreshing and our waiter came by to refill it as if we were at a chinese buffet. From reading other reviews, they say it may not be as authentic, but I thought the flavors were really good and their portions were generous. The service was good and everything came out quite quickly. Unfortunately, the atmosphere was not impressive, but I think I attribute that to one of those restaurants that surprise you with how awesome their food is. Seeing that it was my first time there, I'm not sure if they had existing credit card machines; however, this go-around, they used the old-fashioned carbon paper.

By far the best Thai food in Naples. No other place compares! They have a great lunch special that's pretty affordable, and the food comes out FAST. There's different degrees of spiciness, just keep in mind that Thai spicy is VERY different than American spicy. Even the medium spicy gets me panting a little. The curries are all great, and the pad thai is the best I've ever had. Service is always quick and attentive.

Is every restaurant in Naples dead after 8pm? We walked into the restaurant at 8:30 and we were the only ones here. Food was half decent, but spiciness is varied. I ordered the massaman curry and asked what spiciness did they offer. They politely said it was 'American' spicy, and knew I had to order hot to tickle my taste buds. Unfortunately, the hot was very tame and mild. Try the restaurant if you want mild Thai food. Don't expect to burn your senses though

Good food, prompt service! Prices are on the high side for a "lunch special" ($8.95), but it includes soup, a fried spring roll, and an entree. The entree is bigger than a lunch portion, so there is plenty to take home. The soup of the day tasted exactly like something my mom makes. I've never had it at any other Thai restaurant, so kudos to them for bringing a little authenticity to the place. My massaman curry and bf's pad thai came out in less than 10 minutes. I always wonder if food that comes out that quickly has been pre-prepared. It has to be, right? The question is, how long ago was it prepared? It was good, and it didn't taste old, so who knows. Thai tea was $3.95, no refills! Is everything this expensive in Florida?! I didn't dock any points for that because I didn't pay for it. (Thank you bf's company!)

My favorite Thai place in the area. High quality meat and veggies. Love the extra spicy dishes.

Pros and cons.....this is a tough one. The food was good and seemed good quality, but it was one of the most expensive Thai restaurants I have been to. Each meal is around $20 per person.....with that I'm expecting really good food. It definitely isn't the best Thai food around which makes it hard for me to go back. Also, the menu advises you to pick your level of spice/hot, Thai spicy being the hottest. I asked for everything Thai spicy, which was fine for the most part, but......you should understand what it is. The Thai spice is not a hot sauce, and to me it isn't really even spicy. The problem is that it is a dry spice, and the sprinkle it on your food. I stared with a Tom Yum soup, and it was like drinking a pepper soup...like they just dumped the spice in there. For what I paid o expected more. I will not go back and I won't recommend anyone else to go here.

Came in for a quick lunch take out. Thai basil offers a nice variety of cliché sushi rolls that anyone can find anywhere, as well as thai curry dishes, frog legs and duck. We ordered a spicy dragon roll and sweet and sour shrimp. Everything was fine and requested with a spiciness of a 25 that was almost too hot to enjoy! I felt like my sushi roll was a bit overloaded with cream cheese and at $15 i'd like to taste more than just that in my mouth. If I wanted cream cheese that bad I'd buy a bagel for $4. All of the fried rices sounded great but seemed a bit expensive at $17. Service was very pleasant and helpful. Decor is dated but comfortable.

Quick service but food was very lacking. Enormous portions but pricey. The portions were huge because of all the extra noodles and rice served. I ordered the pad thai and it came with about a 32oz of noodles and even a pint of rice. Who in their right mind would eat all of that? I also got the basil rolls which were stuffed with more pad thai rice noodles. No thank you. Just visiting naples so I'll never be back...

Food was very very expensive. Maybe double or triple what we are used to in NYC, la, chicago for a place in a strip mall with no style. Food ranged from okay to totally off base. I think they used Italian pasta for one of the noodle dishes. The fried tofu was quite good though. The chicken tasted a bit odd and was dry. Service was slow and a little awkward. The server seemed annoyed with my kids. Interesting as pretty much everyone there had kids and my kids were behaving pretty well for a change. Was planning to leave a low tip. But surprise. Gratuity is included already. People say this is the best thai in Naples. I haven't been to the other places. Sad for the town if this is the best.

Delicious!!!! I had the vegetable tofu soup and red curry with tofu and vegetables. Both were delicious and the vegetables were fresh. You can get any level of hotness you want. My aunts and husband are not vegetarian and got the satay aa well as a ginger chicken and a salmon dish. They loved it all. Wait staff were friendly and attentive. Servings were so large that we had leftovers which we enjoyed the next day. Great food and really authentic flavors.

Really tasty Thai! Don't let the strip mall exterior dissuade you; the food and the service are fantastic. My husband and I live in Fort Myers, but we asked a friend in Naples to suggest someplace to eat after a social engagement. We had the place to ourselves late on a weeknight - I can't speak to how busy it is on weekends or in season. We ordered mee krob to start. I've never ordered mee krob anywhere else, but I wouldn't order it again here. It seemed like bagged noodles tossed in sweet and sour sauce from a jar. Fortunately, the main course was great. I ordered chicken red curry, and my husband got beef mussaman curry. The meat and vegetables were tender and the spice level was perfect. (We ordered medium - I like spicy food but prefer not to singe my tongue.) The server was attentive without being intrusive, which I really appreciate. I will definitely be back!

The best Thai food in town. I love their Panang Curry with Chicken. In most places it's served in a very thin "soup" in a bowl. At Thai Basil it's more like a sauce in a shallow plate. It sticks to the ribs better, and the portions are huge. The Soup is great as well that's included with the lunch plates.

Definitely a good find, tucked in a nondescript strip mall. Quiet, good service, pad woon sen with a flavorful brown sauce, just-crunchy pea pods.

Surprised that there are no reviews! Of course if you live in Naples you have better things to do than sit around and write reviews. Food, Music, and Service were all excellent! Fresh with big portions. Another diner said he travels to Naples frequently and always eats at Thai Basil.

Phenomenal, as usual. I've been coming here off an on since August of 2000. The Thai food is exceptional. I once brought a friend who had lived with a Thai family for several years and he said this was the most authentic he had ever eaten outside of Thailand - that should say it all. My staples here are Tom Ka Gai soup and Panang Curry - both spiced traditional (5 on a scale of 1-5). They'll ask you to confirm your spicy order if you go all the way, just to make sure you understand what you're getting into before it's served. The Thai Iced Tea is a definite must, but of all the times I've brought guests here with all the various things they've tried, we've yet to have a bad meal. Service is always friendly. They've added a sushi bar, but as this is one of my favorite Thai places, I haven't tried it yet. It's in the Blockbuster strip mall, so it's not one of those places you would expect to be great, but it ROCKS!
