Coming from Nashville, I've been lucky enough to eat some truly great Mexican food. I wasn't sure what to expect from Naples Mexican food, but after reading the good reviews for El Tapatio on Yelp, we decided to give this place a try. It also didn't hurt that our favorite Mexican joint at home is also called El Tapatio, so I guess the lesson to be taken away from this is that whatever the city, if you're looking for amazing authentic Mexican food, try the place called El Tapatio! As others have mentioned, the atmosphere of this joint is pretty much non-existent (I think the restaurant actually is attached to some low-rent motel-type housing), but it hardly matters because the food is so gosh darn good. My husband and I kicked off our meal with some guac, and for $5, we got a massive bowl (you'd likely pay $10 for this kind of serving in fancier places) that was incredibly fresh and flavorful. We then followed this up with some tacos, a sope, a gordita, and a cuban sandwich. The flavors were fresh and vibrant and really wonderful; probably the only thing I was disappointed with was the chicharonne sope that I ordered as rather than having crispy crunchy pork skin, it had some flabby bits that weren't really very pleasant or tasty. Everything else was superb, including my taco de lengua (tongue!) and the cuban sandwich truly was out of this world (so creamy yet crunchy!). El Tapatio is a place where you can come and have a soul-satisfying feast for not much dinero. The food is humble but top notch, and if my husband and I could have eaten here every day we were in Naples, we would have been happy campers. Definitely one of the best meals we had while in town, so if you're craving honest and delicious Mexican food, be sure to check this place out.

What a find!! Very authentic Mexican food. Salsa great, carne asada great. Warning - camerones ala diablo Very very spicy hot!!! Would return when in the area. The review from Jennifer H was spot on.

I love this restaurant and it's authentic Mexican food. The outside can be deceiving and is very humble in appearance. From the highway you can easily pass this place and miss a golden opportunity so keep the GPS on. They are closed on Wednesdays. The first time we went there was four of us and the second time just myself and my husband. Both times we all enjoyed our meal which was flavorful, colorful, and fresh. The guacamole is one of the best I've had in a long time. They only serve beer and wine. The service was quick and polite. Most of the items on the menu are $10 or under.

Meh this place was ok. I consistently have problems ordering items with no cheese despite my clarity. no cheese! they had to made my food maybe three times? just saying... once I got my enchilada without cheese it was very yummy. Churro had this weird dulce de leche filling, we got it free with a check in deal. I would say overall a 2.5 but I will round up for authenticity and friendliness. Carnitas taco -1 Lengua taco - 3 Chicken enchilada - 4 Churro - 1 Service - 3 Coffee - 3 Atmosphere - 3

Hypothesis debunked! I once said that the east coast can not produce authentic Mexican cuisine. I am so wrong . I'll be the first to admit. Who would've thought? An enclave of thriving Mexican community lives here in Naples. Tapatio reminds me of an eatery in the tiny streets of Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo. Amazing! My true test of a good Mexican restaurant is how they they rate on their menudo or pozole. Sure enough they have menudo and hot damn it is tender, flavorful and delicious. For the not so adventurous do not try it as this is tripe, a cow's stomach lining. Eeeew, yummy! There's also - lengua, cow tongue taco! Eeeew, yummy! I ordered the gordita- thicker corn flour tortilla with chicharon (crispy skin in stewed tomatoes) eeeew, yummy! And gordita with steak. Amazing! And for $3.25 each. One was actually more than enough. I was certainly delighted to find items they normally do not serve here in the US. Items that are reminiscent of street hawker fare of Mexico. They also have flan, which was homemade and spot-on. And agua fresca. Cheap eats. The service was friendly and fast!

I feel like a broken record, but this truly is a great place. The food is worthy of china and crystal but that would ruin the Mexican home kitchen atmosphere. We started with homemade chips and pico de gallo plus hot salsa. My enchiladas were amazing, topped with a pile of lettuce, chopped tomatoes, sour cream and queso blanco. My husband's fajitas overflowed his plate. Even the beans and rice were good. We would definitely come back if we didn't live in Colorado. Come to think of it, this food could be worth the drive!

Don't Judge the book by the cover. Very good authentic Mexican food ( not tex-mex). Don't expect heads of guac and sour cream on everything. This is the real deal. Yelpers, don't forget to ask for the free dessert! Yum

Went for the first time tonight after reading good reviews here. We all got different tortas, and they all were tasty. They were also very nice about us coming in so late. Update: After having gone back MANY times, just want to mention the MASHED POTATO ENCHILADAS! Have you ever heard of such a thing? I hadn't! They're great, of course. Vegan friendly, in theory... Also tried the nopalito (cactus) gordita! Tastes kind of like green peppers.

The holy trinity; Great Food, Good Price and Huge Portions. Guac was great. Chicken enchiladas were the best we've ever had and we've had our fare share. Fajitas were great too. A must stop if you can get off the beaten path.

Outside is sketchy, even after reading all of the great reviews, when we pulled in we couldn't decide if we were going to get out of the car. It had taken us over 20 mins to get there so we decided to go in. The service was good, the Gorditas were amazing and the price can't be beat. Great Mexican food which we washed down with a Corona, worth the trip. We will be back!

Prepare to be somewhat apprehensive when you pull into the parking lot. The restaurant itself is attached to a motel, and the entire structure looks pretty run down. The restaurant is also fairly small, and we honestly weren't sure if they could even seat our party of six (they did, and we were actually the second group of six in the restaurant; there were probably 25 people in the place in total). When it comes to the food, however, we thought it was really, really good. We had a decent sampling of dishes; the meat was well seasoned and, honestly, my quesadilla had some of the best tasting chicken I've ever had. Everyone else in our group had similar feelings in terms of the taste and quality of their food. We had some drinks, too, and the total price for everying was cheap at best and very reasonable as worst. The only downside is that they don't have tequila margaritas, only wine margaritas (which we didn't try). And the aforementioned warnings about the building itself, but that's should be overlooked in light of the quality of the food.

Very simple decor, but the food more than makes up for it. Very large portions and absolutely delicious. Friendly staff willing to help make a choice. Have gone there often and will return often. Try the guacamole!

As long as you can get past feeling as though you are eating at the end of a motel that rents by the hour this place is amazing!!!!! The guac is amazing and made fresh. We did all ala carte and everything was delicious. Tacos, enchilada and flautas. We'll definitely be back here for the authentic taste.

I went to this restaurant because of its high rating and reviews, however my experience was a nightmare. I asked the gentlemen working behind the counter if this restaurant makes carne asada burritos and I was told yes. I order chicken enchiladas and a carne aside burrito with sour cream and cheese. After waiting for 20 mins the female behind the counter was confused with where to put my sour cream. I said you can put it inside the burrito. Then I was asked, you want a burrito? i said yes that is what I order. So I waited another 20 mins for them to make my burrito and chicken enchilada, which they had not started making at that point. She confirmed, you did order the chicken enchilada? I said yes. In total I waited about 40-45 mins for two items and there were only one other couple who arrived 15 mins after I did and a elaborated gentlemen at the bar. The guy who took my order stated that he didn't hear me say burrito. I said I know what I asked for and if you did not hear clearly that is not on me. After waiting forever for these items that should have taking 15mins max, I was charged $1 for the sour cream and cheese $8 for the burrito and $11 for the enchilada. I ask the gentlemen who was ringing up my order and same person who got my order wrong, shouldn't you comp me for the inconvenience and the long wait, at least I should get the sour cream and cheese for free? He gave another excuse that he heard me say something else and said I'll get you next time. I advised him that there won't be a next time, this will be my last visit to this establishment. Bottom line I don't mind mistakes but admit to them especially in hospitality and dinning, plus it's better customer service if one shows the patron one is sorry for the inconvenience by reducing their bill or comping them something. I DO NOT recommend and I will not be going back.

yes this is literally a hole in the wall place..but sometimes those kinds of places have the best food chicken enchildas buried under lettuce, tomato and sour cream were very good my wifes cheese enchildas (likewise buried) were also very good my daughters taco was good as well-she actually ate more of the filling than the shell :) coke with sugar hecho in Mexico also except for the musica blasting out of the speakers..that was kinda annoying..

I live really close to this place and never considered going until I read the great reviews on yelp. The food was great, I had the chicken tostadas and my guest had cactus and bean and cheese gorditas. Very tasty authentic, and fresh. And unlike Tex-Mex everything wasn't covered in a blanket of cheese. The chips were home made and the salsa was very good as well. The restaurant decor and atmosphere reminded me of a Mexico City flop house, but I guess that's how they can produce really good food at a very reasonable price. I'll be definitely be a gringo regular. Olè!

We have now been to this place three times. It is consistently great! Once you get past the appearance of the building you will find the folks who run the restaurant to be wonderful. The food is outstanding. Coming from Texas where Mexican food and BBQ are hard to beat I have to say this is even better,

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
