I enjoyed dinner at DaRuMa last night with an old friend, and as with the familiar comfort of friendship may patrons find like comfort and entertainment in the cozy of this steakhouse and sushi bar. The sushi was exceptional; my Chilean sea bass was somewhat over-cooked which we witnessed happening, not wanting to critique a chef's work before sampling I suppose. Literally everything else though was fine as plum wine, including the tongue-in-cheek guff n jabs we received from the waitstaff.

Decent food, service was somewhat lacking-speedy but at the same time not spectacular. Not cheap, but a good variety.

AVOID DARUMA AT ALL COST. I would like to start by saying that I give Daruma a 1 star is because I need to. I don't think I can give 0 stars and still make a review. Having said that, ....... we were a 12 people table. Waiting for our drinks a cockroach showed up! We had women screaming as expected. The waiter moved us to a table that was open and things kind of got better for a while. After we finished our meals the waiter wanted to do some damage control which I believe was quickly stopped by the "manager". To after what we told him what had happened he replied. .. " if it was so bad why didn't you leave ". This STUPID manager still thinks is about money. We have been coming to Daruma for Years. Never felt so insulted before. So, if you are looking to go to a Nice, Friendly, and good Quality Restaurant avoid Daruma at all costs. IT HAS DRASTICALLY CHANGED FOR THE BAD. Manager sucks, cockroaches are roming around and it seems no one cares. It is the worst place I have been this year.

I would have loved to try this place, until I heard all over the news this place was shut down very recently by the health department for a horrible Roach infestation. No thanks!

Daruma tends to be my Friday night happy hour spot with 4$ sakes and 6$ appetizers. Any dish I've ever ordered though was always great! I always sit in the bar area and the service is just as great as the food. I went with 3 kids and a friend the other night with no tables and they found a way to accommodate the 5 of us immediately.

With one childless night out while in town, we decided to restaurant hop. Course #1 was sushi, of course. Daruma did not disappoint! We sat at the bar and were entertained by the sushi chefs at work and the wonderful live music. Highly recommend the galaxy (special) and caterpillar rolls.

Yum! Just love hibachi! Free appetizer with a steak dinner entree thru July 31,2015. Really enjoyed our time at this place. They were very accommodating for a big group and made it very private. We got a great chef he was energetic and got everyone off their phones! Loved this place.

My first time here and it was amazing! Now I know what everyone was raving about! Great food, fabulous service!

Sadly the experience as a whole was a disappointment. We loved our chef. He was amazing and friendly and made great food. But the rest of the staff wasn't very attentive. There was also a huge party in the room next to us. They were screaming and cursing so loud we couldn't hear each other at our table. When we asked the staff to ask them to possibly quiet down, they refused to do it. Curse words don't offend me at all. I use them frequently myself, but when you're paying over $100 on a dinner for 2, I'd like to at least be able to talk to the people I'm with. Once again, great food, great chef, but a bad atmosphere and servers.

We arrived on time for our 7:30 reservation. I should add that we come here every year and this was our first negative experience. We were given a pager and told it would just be a few minutes. We waited. And waited. We watched parties who had arrived after us being seated before us. We checked at the hostess station again and were told that our table was being cleaned. Finally, thirty minutes after our reservation, we were seated. Dinner was good, our chef was entertaining and we shared our table with two lovely couples from MN BUT... No one came to refill our drinks until we were done with our meal. All in all, not the Daruma experience we have come to expect. We were especially put off by the rude, snippy attitude of the hostesses, and the fact that they weren't honest with us about when we would be seated.

Been here 3 times with family. Hibachi grill is awesome. Our cook was a California native! Very friendly and funny, kept us very entertained! Will suggest for all visiting family to go eat here. Food was fresh and delicious, drinks were made very well, not straight liquor, just right!!!

I am a regular who goes 1-2 times a week. They sent me a $20 birthday gift when I spend $88. It was going to be a wait for the table so I spent $25 in the bar on appetizers and drinks my dinner came to $86.95. They refused my birthday gift that they sent me in front of the whole table. They said the manager didn't care that I was a regular and had spent over $100. Since it wasn't rung up at once, too bad. I love the food here but the customer service is horrible and what a slap in the face to a regular. The owner and manager should be embarrassed at their behavior, both were present at the time.

This place has really went down hill. Quality as well as the "service". The wait staff is rude. The blond haired Asian women who manages the place is very rude. She reminds me of the hibachi version of the soup Nazi. She barks orders at us as to ware to sit etc. Also told us that we must leave right after paying. Ive been coming here for over 10 years and last couple times I have came here over the past 6 months it has been getting progressively worse.

Great location, medium-good food and many years of experience. However management is the worst, rude, incompetent and treats locals as replicable, don't sure why she still in this position. Anyway, restaurant and food is good, but I think we have much better places in town by now, unless you like the location.

So extremely disappointed in this place! As we speak I'm sitting in a HOT bar area waiting for a table and we have been told 3 different times so far! If this was not my best friends birthday dinner I would have gladly left by now! I am a stylist in the area and this will not be the last time I tell this horrific story. After speaking with the manger she declined to accommodate by offering free drinks or even a glass of ice water in this pit of fire that we are sitting in. So disappointed... Period! #flicky

First time doing Hibachi and figured I would try this place on my vacation since one of the waitresses at the hotel I was staying in recommended it. Chef was super friendly and the beef was delicious! Waitress who took our order though wasn't as friendly and I felt like she was trying to trick us to get extras like fried rice without alerting us that it was extra money. Although I guess to be fair the menu did state fried rice was extra. But you know what I mean. Reminds me of places who ask you if you want a refill on your soda and you think it is a free refill only to see another soft drink charged on your bill... Also their website is deceiving, it says sign up for your birthday and get a coupon for $20 off, etc. I NEVER got the coupon and when I got to the restaurant the host says, oh you get the coupon 5 days after signing up.. Again no coupon was ever emailed to me- it is about a month later. Also the website should have disclosed the 5 day waiting period.. but again since the coupon never comes... don't count on getting it. I recently tried another Hibachi place and it was more kid friendly and did more tricks like toss food into your mouth. All in all, food pretty good but upset with the things I mentioned above.

Good presentation, the food tastes well but it just didn't seem to be as good as previous experiences. The service was fair had to flag down service for drinks and refills. The show was pretty good standard deal. The management was poor we had a problem with our bill and she treated us badly. Went for two peoples birthday and the night was not as special as we had hoped.

Hibachi was ok. We've been to several including this one a coupe of times. Not impressed with my food this time. The soup was bla, I didn't like the bitterness of the salad dressing on my salad and the vegetables were mushy and had no flavor. My shrimp and scallops were good. The fried rice was bla and had no onion in it, just egg. The cook was fun and the waiters were attentive. After going to several awesome hibachi's, I was a little disappointed with the food here.

Vacation search for Sushi lead here from a local's suggestion. It's really more of a hibachi place - loads of Benihana style grills with people lined up around them. The sushi lounge is it's own little bar away from the metallic scrapes and flame on bursts. A good selection of both nigiri/sashimi with interesting rolls and some basic bento and salad options. A bit pricey though for something called a lounge. The food was all really good (except the conch, guess I'm not a fan of eating rubber, blech!) and the drinks were fun and included some happy hour options. The most, uhm .. unique? part of the experience was the lounge act. An older couple with the gent on ivories and the lady on vocals. I don't even know what they were playing but every now and then it caught our ears and we'd start giggling like a bunch of kids. Well worth a few clams in the tip jar. They made me think of a Where Are They Now for the sticky finger couple from Dirty Dancing. Good for a special occasion but wasn't blown out of the water. Service staff seemed casual and untrained for working in such a nice/$ place. I'll do my research next time for the best sushi bar in Naples.

Came here with 4 other people. 3 of us got our appetizers but the other 2 appetizers weren't ready so they had to wait and didn't get them til after we were done with ours. Overall the food was decent. But I'm not a Japanese food fan. I had the negamaki which was good just a little too much scallions which were also a little chewy. And I ordered the pineapple chicken with fried rice. It was decent. Chicken was a little dry. Flavors were good. Service was definitely lacking here though. Way too slow and appetizers should have come out together. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food. If it wasn't for the poor service I would have given it more stars. Oh and there was a male pianist and woman singer...the woman does not sing well and it was a bit painful at times!

Amazing food - great deal! My mother and I love this place. We always get the sunset special which is great. Your meal comes with soup and a salad. Sharing a table can be a bit awks but the drinks are cheap so dive right in and your companions will become infinitely more tolerable. Our waitresses have always been swift, accommodating, and super nice. The chefs always put on a show and their food is on point. After our first visit we made our reservation for our second.

  • Brooke L.

Excellent night out with the fam. My picky kids even ate the soup & shrimp. I always get the warm sake! Usually just get the chicken (they have a sunset special) but tonight I got the scallops. Very good, well prepared. Only complaint was the semi-loud, slightly annoying party we shared a table with.

Great food with a great, fun environment. Yes, it's a little pricey, but join their club and they send coupons once in a while. We went with a large group Friday night and had an amazing time. Out of the 10 people that were in our party, all of our food had been cooked PERFECTLY. We all left stuffed and COMPLETELY satisfied. What a delicious experience. Hubby had NY Strip and Filet combo, not on the menu and they didn't care, I had Filet and Chilean Sea Bass. We would each order it again. Everything was cooked to perfection. I had fried rice, we had the veggies and shrimp, yum yum yum. A couple with us ordered sushi and said it was amazing, we don't do sushi, and another couple ordered hot sake and said that was great too. Most of us had been there before and they just don't disappoint. And like I said, it's on the pricey side but with our coupons, yes they even recommended we use more than one coupon per check, we only paid $57 for a few beers, 2 filet mignon, a NY strip, a nice filet of Chilean Sea Bass and all the extras. Where can you get all that for that price in Naples? Even with a reservation, you WILL wait a few minutes. So go to the bar area and get a drink. Enjoy!

Gone downhill over the years. beginning with the Bleached Blonde Asian Greeter who turned out to be Manager. Down right rude to us because she failed to read the original reservation and when asked how many I made a mistake and miscounted. The doors opened late, several of us stood outside waiting. It was not like she had been working all day, it was early 5:15 pm and slow. Would have left but when you are there with a large group you pray for the best. The food was nothing like it used to be, yet it is pricey. Less portions, less flavorful. Especially the fried rice they charge extra for, very disappointing. The menu sucks for vegetarians. Their soup is made of chicken stock, ask for Miso. They have no Tofu as a main option, only veggie plate. Yet, caution.... they give you shrimp with the vegetarian entree, which is around $18 from the early dinner menu. Really? What sense does that make? The "show" was also limited, the chef hardly did anything. I was surprised the green tea was good and free. Only good thing was the service. However, as soon as you are done eating, they make it known you cannot sit and drink your Sake. They push the take home boxes, checks and set the new table while we are still seated. If you sign up for the birthday club, you get $10 off for the month of your bday. However, even with that, I prefer to stay home, watch Karate Kid with a glass of wine.

I world have gave This a 4. But the 3 teenagers accoss the table ordered the sunset special and it was the same size as our 2 full priced same meat entrees. They charged us 8$ more for my shrimp and at least 6$ more for chicken. I asked when we ordered if there was a size differance and they said "of course we would get more" not the case! Everyone order the sunset special!!!! You get more!!

  • Alexandra G.

The food is average. The staff are often always running around in a frenzy. And just as pricey as the other hibachi restaurant in Naples. The sauces are overly sweet. I don't hate this place but none of this food can I beat Fujiyama!!!!

the food was fantastic. The ambiance is fitting for a Japanese Steak House. The service was adequate and even though it was busy , the entire operation seemed very disorganized. On a good note, we spoke with the Manager who realized we were desperate for a table and he quickly accommodated us. Overall, I highly recommend Daruma for anyone visiting Naples near the beach.

  • Kira S.

I LOVE this Daruma! I live in the area and have gone several times - never to be disappointed! We typically start off in the bar area while waiting for a table, the bartender (I believe his name is Kevin) is fantastic and makes awesome drinks. Next - the wait staff is superb. Friendly, fast, and on top of everything during the entire meal - my water glass was always full! Food - always delicious. Kenny is my favorite of the chefs, always remembers us and is so much fun. The ONLY downside we ever ran into, was when we received a birthday coupon and tried to redeem it via smart phone - they ONLY take the $20 coupon if it has been printed out. There is a small disclaimer on the email version that we did not see. Just make sure you print it out! Other than that - I do not have one bad word to say about this establishment!

My husband and I ABSOLUTELY love the hibachi service at DaRuMa. It has never been topped, even at national chains like Benihana, whose at-table chefs and servers were undeniably rude. We will NOT be going back there, but will always return to DaRuMa. I ordered the filet mignon and scallops, my husband the filet mignon and chicken. Everything is made to order, to your liking, as it should be. We had a $5 appetizer waiting for our table to fill, the gyoza were amazing. The meal begins with a wonderfully hot miso soup, followed by a DECLICIOUS Asian salad with homemade dressing(out of this world), a shrimp and vegetable appetizer, and then your chosen proteins. The filet was PERFECT, the chicken and seafood were PERFECT, absolutely no complaints. The others at our table spoken very little English but were still a pleasure to dine with. My only qualm was the 18% gratuity added after we used our Birthday Coupon - it seemed to be more expensive to use the coupon, especially 18% of a nearly $70 bill. Despite this, we will still return to DaRuMa! Definitely recommend!

We love Daruma. Great food. Great staff. Teppan style is so fun and entertaining, I can eat a meal without entertaining the kids. A real treat for any parent. Try all of their sauces. Really yummy.

I only ate at the sushi bar and not at the teppanyaki part of the restaurant so this is the review of the sushi bar only. I can see why there's a hotel across the street, I can order, go back and sleep, and then come back to get my order and it'll finally be done. The service was slow. I went with my family here looking for some sushi and we ordered a bunch. I understand that there were other orders before us and we ordered a lot, but they seemed understaffed. There was only one sushi chef which is why the orders were so slow to come out. I understand that it was probably unexpected to have so many people come for sushi on a Tuesday night, but some of my family ordered noodles and cooked chicken and those took forever to come out. However service aside, the sushi was great. The Udon chicken noodles were a bit over-sauced and made it a little too salty. The servers were nice, especially with the time delay, and I give them some credit for handling some of the more disgruntled customers that were there. It was good food, just don't come during a busy night or you'll be there FOREVER

I recently just went here for my birthday on Sunday and was very excited because it was my first time there. When we arrived we had to wait to be seated so we went to the bar for a cocktail while we waited. The host and bartender were very nice (even though it took 13 mins for me to receive my drink.) Eventually we were seated and having a great time. 16 minutes had past before our server even came to our table, upon his arrival we were not greeted or even told his name. we actually had to ask the questions. I asked if he was ok and how his day was going because he was just simply being rude and he told me it was miserable because he was at work and just wished he could leave. WOW, great start to our dinner. To keep this review shorter than it should be, we eventually got our glasses of wine 17 mins later. Yes I time everything...lol.. the chef came out and was outstanding.. had a great time with him cooking in front of us. Unfortunately for this place, the server killed it. Only came back to drop food off, never asked how we were and at one point I had to get up to ask for another round of drinks. Food was great, chef was outstanding, service sucks... For that reason, i will not go back, you can have everything right, but if you treat you guests like garbage, especially after spending $150 for dinner, you will not see them again, nor will you see me.

3.5 stars. See my list titled: "My Japanese Steakhouse resume. :)" to understand where I'm coming from. My parents live in Naples and a sister lives in Ft. Myers. Whenever I visit them, it is usually tied around a holiday or a birthday so we usually go here for that special occasion. It's fun and my children and nephew really enjoy it. So do I. :) The decor is great. Very Japanese feel to it. This place is big too. At least a dozen, maybe as many as 20, hibachi tables that will seat 8 each. The waitstaff is dressed in Japanese style clothing, kimonos for women and happi coats for men. We have always had a very attentive and nice wait person. No complaints there. The chefs are good and they are funny. They know how to do the usual tricks and tell the jokes so this keeps us happy and laughing. Kids love it. The food has always been very good. I have had a little better vegetables but these are still fresh and tasty. I prefer the hibachi restaurants that take a zucchini and slice it fat and flat lengthwise then grill it and drizzle soy sauce on it. This zucchini is in small triangle shaped slices. Pre sliced with other veggies. Good but just a personal preference for it the other way. :) I have no complaints. Drinks are cold and booze is solid. Sake is hot. You'll have fun so go with a big group and enjoy.

See quick tip; petite meals are more than enough with salad and soup. We got a $5 appetizer - spicy tuna - which was a great starter. Atlantic Cod was tender, fresh, and service was fantastic.

Well the location of the restaurant is near the beach, parking isnt too bad. The hostess's were ok, but they screwed up our table. We were about 7 adults and 3 kids. They put us at a table with two other couples and we were crammed into the spot. We complained and they really didnt do anything to help the situation. I m a big guy and I was on the edge eating off a corner. Not a great experience, especially when your paying $27 for your meal. The food was just ok. The salad was ok. The soup was AWFUL. The filet and chicken were ok, but all the sauces and dressing were tasteless..... Having said that, my party and I started to compare it to Sakura's in Tysons Corner or even Benihana in Washington Dc. Both those places killed Daruma in terms of taste. SO for more then THIRTY dollars a person I dont think I will come back here....

We sat in the stake house section where the sushi selection is limited. Very good friendly service. The shrimp and scallop dish was okay. California roll was fantastic!

Hibachis are great: soup, salad, and a meal and then leftovers the next day. Good food; standard atmosphere, and close to the beach.

In order of the experience: Seating in the hibachi area is ridiculous. The floor behind the chairs is elevated, so staff has to hunch down behind you to serve drinks. Seats are like booster seats - nearly impossible to get in and out of. No one explained the menu or how hibachi works for new guests. Drink orders were rushed (we were the last group seated); one of our party said he'd order his drinks when the rest were brought - the waitress did not ask him again. When we ordered food, my friend said, "I don't even know what I'm looking at here", asking for a brief explanation - entrees vs combinations, etc. The waitress rolled her eyes at him and moved on to the next person. It was either a language barrier or extreme rudeness... The sushi menu was very limited, and our waitress told me we could not order sushi as an appetizer. She said as an entree, it would take 40+ minutes; only one chef was working, and she said he was too busy. She later apologized so we wouldn't complain (her words). One waiter was friendly in getting us drink refills. The hibachi chef was fine - standard tricks (volcano was a little sloppy) but generally pleasant. The food was good, especially the vegetables and lemon sauce. We had chicken, NY strip, and shrimp - all the meats were done to perfection. Bottom line: The food was delicious but the service left such a bad taste in my mouth, I wouldn't recommend it.

My mom and I ordered take out here. We shared a crab volcano roll and seaweed salad. Im not the biggest fan of all seaweed salads, but this was so fresh and had just the right amount of vinegar. The crab volcano rolle is basically a HUGE mound of crab topped on a maki roll that is filled with avocado. My mom also requests that they only use sriracha sauce and no mayo, so its even healthier! So good a great go to take out place.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed DaRuMa before! My boyfriend and I are regulars here. We go to Teppan for many of our special events. To start, he loves the soup and I love the salad. The ginger dressing is so good. The chef is always funny and the scallops, tuna, sea bass, lobster, filet, and shrimp are amazing! I must admit that the chicken is not my favorite and usually tastes dry. We also love the lemon sauce and fried rice. The sushi bar is my hands-down favorite! The Super Duper Eel Roll is amazing. I love the head sushi chef Mike. He's very nice and great at his job! We go here all the time and have loved every roll we've had. I also recommend the Daruma Mai-Tai, although warning you it is a strong drink.

This is the best Living Social site in Naples. You come for an excellent meal - which it is. We collectively enjoyed shrimp, scallops, steak and chicken accompanied by a moutain of fresh veggies, including Chinese cabbage. But you are seated with strangers who, if they're decent humans in my opinion, will smile and converse with you and their other neighbors. If you're a crank, please go home and sit alone.

  • Dale S.

Outstanding!!! Would give more stars if I could. Was a bit apprehensive as the restaurant is only open from 5 to 10 pm. But, the quality of the product they serve makes them able to set their own hours and they must make enough during those hours to cover their costs. Had takeout so can't speak to the atmosphere - looked nice. Had some normal rolls and sashimi (BIG pieces of unagi). Excellent! The special rolls we had (Sexy Roll (I know, the name...) and Mardi Gras Roll) were truly amazing!
